Code:Realise 9 - 10 | Juuni Taisen 11 - 12 (FINAL) | Girls’ Last Tour 10 | Ancient Magus’ Bride 10
My seasonal stuff is now being spread out over WordPress and Tumblr, but the smulcast commentary is staying here.
Code:Realise 9
“The Mes”??? When it’s meant to be “Thames”? Someone can’t English.
“It makes me feel just a little discouraged.”
“…I’ll just have to open your [Saint’s] eyes.” – But…his eyes were never open in the first place, like Pokémon’s Brock! You can only open his eyes using a huge surprise!
Code:Realise 10
This is a pretty standard anime (in story at least), but a better than average otome game adaption! Well, that’s something I don’t say every day.
Is that an astrolabe?
Well…when I said that thing about Saint and Brock, I guess I didn’t mean this…
This is a tad suspicious. How will this show go on for 2 more episodes?
Juuni Taisen 11
Notice the face of the Dragon is hidden…
“Can a person have a wish they’d die to see granted?” – Ask Madoka, she’ll know…
(trigger alert: suicide) Oh dear. This show is grim, but this is even more grim – the one chance I get to back a good Ume character, he contemplates killing himself. Yikes.
Lemme guess: victor by inaction?
“Everybody, clap your hands!” - There is no “everybody” anymore, Duodecuple. You of all people should know that by now.
It’s like Re:Zero. I’ve been reading the light novels for that series, but…welp, I’ve read up on my share of spoilers for this show, so I know what this really is. I just wanted to link the two.
Hey Nezumi. What if you’d just said “yes”?
“If it looks right, one cannot look left.” – Nice pun.
Schrodinger’s Rat. Guess I never saw that one coming (LOL). (kinda sarcastic)
Judging from the title of episode 12, they’ve adapted the sequel oneshot as well. Ha, me and my predictions strike again (see the 12 Days of Anime Juuni Taisen post on the Animanga Spellbook for why I say this).
Juuni Taisen 12 (FINAL)
Welp, here’s the end. Let’s go.
C’mon, that face of shock looked like King’s Game! (That is not a good label to have, y’know, Juuni Taisen?)
Nezumi’s drawn doodles of Ushii, Sharyu and Usagi! Haha…
How will they get through 99 wishes in one episode? They have about 15 minutes to do so.
One wish…the thing about one wish is that you can only choose the one wish that befits you most of all. Regardless of how much you mull over it, you will pick the one wish that befits you the most, I think.
That blonde kid near Nezumi kinda looks like Bakugo, which kinda scares me.
I seem to remember that Isaac Akers (for Crunchyroll) evaluated the twins as not being honest with their feelings for each other. Well, as they say, blood is stronger than water.
I thought Tora was talking about Ushii at first, but then she mentioned “bu” and “michi”. She’s talking about her dad!
Nezumi’s 17, Tora. You gotta admit he’s underage by American and Japanese standards.
Nezumi is very much like Light (from Death Note, obviously). Too cynical by way of being in this world.
“I wish every day could be Sunday. Go to work.” – LOL, ouch.
“I want to enter a manga.” – But he’s in one as of Oogiri and the Juuni Taisen manga! Geesh, even light novel protagonists don’t know how to be meta, do they?
“I want to be a manga artist.” – Why does it mention Young Jump anyway? More irony and self-deprecation? I’m pretty sure Young Jump is where the Juuni Taisen manga is, anyway. Update: Nope, it’s from Shonen Jump Plus.
“I want to go to an amusement park. What are you, a girl raised to be a living weapon?” – It’s SaiKano! Does anyone remember that series? I haven’t seen it myself, but the internet is a vast place, y’know?
“I want to be the strongest man in the world. What, so you can bully the weak?” – Sounds like One Punch Man to me…
Hey, I just realised that if anyone else wrote this show, it would end up extremely different. I bet a lot of people (from the Western fandom) would make Monkey win anyways…
Girls’ Last Tour 10
Hey. It’s interesting that they chose a train station, because if there’s one thing Japan loves, it’s trains. Specifically shinkansen, because those trains and their train culture are so unique to Japan, but you get the point.
Moving + moving doesn’t necessarily mean moving x 2, you know.
Wavelength…is literally that in Japanese…the length of a wave, so to speak.
Red has a high wavelength. It’s the highest amount of waves you can get for a colour in visual light IIRC.
Girls’ Last Tour just became Made in Abyss…? (Did it?)
Yuu has the radio around her neck, instead of Chi handling it. Huh.
Katto (cut) vs. neko (cat). That’s quite the difference you’ve got there, subbers.
Hey wait! It looks like those god statues from a while back! Someone must’ve worshipped this creature a long time ago!
“Sure, but are you going to carry it, Yuu?”
Ancient Magus’ Bride 10
I will always think of Lindel as the Ancient Magus’ Bride equivalent to zaShunina (Kado).
There was something tied to the bottom of that spruce. I think it may have been an adder stone…?
“We ought not to live by ourselves.” – I always seem to parrot the words that “humans are social creatures”.
“Curses and blessings are the same in essence…” – There’s a similar quote in Tactics, IIRC.
Lindel’s so tsundere…
Bird convos. Just as fun as jellyfish votes (Houseki no Kuni), if not more.

Houseki no Kuni 3 - 6 | Girls’ Last Tour 3 - 6 | Boueibu OVA | Netjuu no Susume 6 | Juuni Taisen 7 | Mahoutsukai no Yome 6
Apparently there’s a bonus if you watch until the end of the 5th ep of Netjuu no Susume…I’ve seen it, or else I wouldn’t be telling you it exists.
I’ve rolled out the simulcast commentary tags for the seasonal shows that don’t have tags yet (aside from Netjuu no Susume’s replacement when that time comes).
Plus, as you can see in the title…there’s the Boueibu OVA in this bundle of notes, for completion’s sake.
Houseki no Kuni 3
That snail sure is a lively thing.
Really? A poop joke? Well, that’s one way to rub Phos’s new state into Dia’s face.
…welp, not much to talk about this time, I guess.
Houseki no Kuni 4
What the heck? The snail has a type???
This OP is lovely. Its best aspect is the visuals, though. It sounds kind of plain compared to even Saturday Night Question (Netjuu no Susume).
That snail makes a nice wig for Master Kongo, doesn’t it?
I’m listening to this show for the first time, and Phos uses “boku”, interestingly enough.
The snail's urge to go back to its home in the sea reminds me that lots of Chinese people go back to their country for Chinese New Year. I wonder if the same sentiment is involved in both instances?
The ED is nice, but not as good as the OP.
Houseki no Kuni 5
Watermelon? I feel sorry for the gem which has that name.
Ahh! These jellyfish are cute (and practical)!
“No getting all weak-kneed now!” – Says Phos, who’s got legs potentially harder than their body.
Houseki no Kuni 6
Trust exercises. I did some with some members of my anime club once. (Haha.)
I noticed the spikes were blue, so they might be Sapphire. It’s kind of like Rabbit’s necromantistry (Juuni Taisen), but…in a slightly different form.
Girls’ Last Tour 3
Kanazawa???? *thinks about King’s Game, where the protag and the author share the surname Kanazawa*
There’s some extremely glaring CGI during this episode. For a moment, you can discern Chi’s made of CGI while in her Kettenkrad.
Please don’t ship the grown man with the loli.
That’s some grim humour they attempted with Kanazawa. Kinda like Zetsubou-sensei (Nozomu Itoshiki).
Boueibu OVA
I almost wasn’t going to cover this, because it’s an OVA, but hey, why not make an exception? This may be the last time we Boueibu fans can talk about this stuff again…(Plus I think I’ll have volume for the entire thing if I hurry.)
Haha, the volleyball scene. Notice En talks first.
Yumoto’s being basic as always. *sighs happily*
Trump, eh? The word for playing cards is trump, but…y’know?
(about “graduating in a storm of cherry blossoms” and En saying it sounds lonely) I was just about to say that, En. However, that may just be OVA feels speaking.
Itsumo Ichiban? Rememer that guy? Well, there’s Itsumo’s brother on Kin-chan’s list. You can tell because he’s literally Itsumo Nisan. Geddit?
(about Zundar’s meeting with Kin-chan) The manga! It was correct after all!
Yep, that’s exactly how it went 2 years ago. In fact, I think it might be recycled content…(?)
Wombat speaks very formally. I learnt about keigo in the past year so I only picked up on that this time around.
The word used by Aki is “sad” according to the subs, but hazukashii means “embarrassing”, which puts a new spin on it.
They’re literally just using montages of s1, which is why I want Pony Canyon to bundle the OVA with s2. It’s more money, but for the consumer, it’s more worth it. However…having Bi…Egoism in an anime segment at all is new.
Akoya must be popular in the fandom. Either that or the staff are acknowledging how unloved he is.
Yay! It’s Star the VEPPer!
It’s good that each of these side characters is getting their own montage. Plus we’re getting official translations of the character songs, which is the best thing you can get for free when character songs aren’t distributed normally in most cases.
4th wall breaking! I guess you never expected that, eh? (Actually, you probably did, considering it’s been a montage for almost everyone now.)
(I love En’s little snarks in the middle of the song.) The only one left after this is Atsushi, right? Update: Oops, forgot Kin-chan. Sorry Kin-chan.
I never really realised Atsushi’s song was so hard rock compared to En’s more pop-like one.
“But do I really have that fire inside of me?” – I think I heard the song go atsui which is a real funky (in a good way) pun on Atsushi’s name.
Aww, they missed out in such a good pun! Haru went haru and Aki went aki. The translator didn’t pick up on that though…aww.
Whoa! Yumoto got all scary! Botan Yuzuru though…gotta look into that later for magicalgirlsandcerulean.
This (Spanish?) guitar reminds me of this track from The Dog Island.
A-ha! This is what you get when you translate the Japanese in the ads too.I was quite right indeed, although it really is the dang 132nd graduation ceremond.
It’s literally a button monster. Don’t wanna mash his buttons! (I bet you’re all groaning from my jokes, ahaha…)
Dadacha’s voice sounds kinda ridiculous now because Yasumoto is clearly using the deeper voice he normally uses for Zundar.
Notice the monster’s face is made from the character 高 (the first character in the Japanese word for “high school”).
Salty Sol is still salty after all this time…sad life.
That train station is the same one from the beach episode!
I’ve seen enough spoilers so I know where this is going…I already identified in the spoiler chat what Wombat is going to catch as a reference to a Kenji Miyazawa work.
This train is somewhat obviously CGI…
Spinach curry? When’d Wombat eat that?
Ths slideshow appears to be all the clean art for everything they’ve ever produced in the Boueibu canon! Even events and collabs!
“So wipe away your tears.” – I’m not crying, you are…*tear leaks from corner of eye*
I don’t recognise two of those pictures…(EnAtsu beach pic and a yukata one with the Defence Club on the roof.)
Oh…my…it’s over? Well, frankly I was expecting the fandom’s end in 2015…so, here’s to the future. Farewell, and remember: love is forever! Separations are only a new beginning!
Netjuu no Susume 6
That was a really bad Glico man in the back (of Koiwai)…
I think something’s wrong with my eye. It just gave off a few tears…(kidding tone)
Whose car is this that Morimori-chan is sitting in??? Update: It’s a taxi. Whoops.
I think Morimori-chan used the word douryou (colleagues, coworkers) instead of employees. The word for employees would probably be very different.
Nikunokiya??? (thinks about Kinokuniya)
(Koiwai goes Ai no chikara ne…) Boueibu reference…kind of.
Notice Koiwai said he was low on health in the text but he said zombie in the Japanese. That’s where Fruits de Mer comes in for Morimori-chan.
“There’s no way I’d say something like that!”
I think the cup this ED is new. Plus the headphones.
Oh! I spotted Morimori-chan with the medium length hair in the background of Sakurai’s bit of the ED.
There are some blurry pictures of Koiwai in the ED and they’re so hilarious!!!
So the ED actually evolves along with the show. Interesting.
Juuni Taisen 7
Rabbit stores his blades in his tail. That’s weird, but funny.
Literally, the episode title is “Dragon Head, Snake Tail”.
Dragon and Snake really are like the Beppus! I keep thinking that. I want a crossover fic now…
Tatsu = dragon.
I only just realised but…a naga is a snake. Nagayuki is the younger bro, isn’t he? Dangit, Nisio Isin! You bested me again.
150 doesn’t have any significance in regards to the number 12 now does it?
It’s Rabbit! Who’s not wearing his trademark booty shorts or high heels! Rabbit in a waiter’s outfit is really something, though.
“Hot guy”? Not by most people’s standards Tora/Kanae, considering he’s currently missing his head.
It’s tiger versus…aww. It’s not tiger vs dragon…
How can Ushii still talk after being strangled by Snake’s arm???
Whoa! Incendiary components are cool in Bond movies, but fiery liquid? That’s a step up!
Mahoutsukai no Yome 6
Admit it. You saw it in the next ep preview (unless you skipped it or read the manga)…It’s TITania time!
“She touched me for the first time.” – Elias, what a dork you are…
The birbs around Chise are so fluffy and adorable! It’s cute.
Geez, it really is TITania…these fanservice wiggles are destroying my Mahoutsukai no Yome experience…
Seing the Faerie Queen facepalm…is something else. *sweatdrops*
In the same way I want a koala sheep from Avatar the Last Airbender, I want one of those sheep bug things.
“Every creature of the night, including she and you, are my adorable little children.” – No wonder you have such big hooters, TITania…
A wild SIMON appeared!…Thought we’d forgotten about him for the rest of the episode. He would’ve made a better brick joke if his return were prolonged, y’know.
Strange question, but do priests wear pants?
Girls’ Last Tour 4
I’m listening to Ugoku Ugoku for the first time and it’s…strangely catchy…
That thing with the face is really creepy…
That thing is a stone statue???
“What IS cheese?” – Considering sometimes cheese tastes pretty bad, I don’t blame you for not knowing what cheese is.
Couldn’t they check the camera for what Kanazawa was doing with it?
I just saw the number 3230 on the camera’s inside frame for taking pictures (whatever you call it). That might be the year this show is set…
Notice the word for temple that’s used is jiin, a Buddhist temple. A Shinto version of that might be jinja.
Kanazawa was voiced by Akira Ishida? The guy who did Kiku (SGRS)??? NOOOOOOO! I missed a prime opportunity! I’ll have to go back for it later.
The ED is even more catchy than the OP. Is that even possible???
The camera breaks in the ED…that’s so ominous…
That post-ED scene was cute. A little bit.
Girls’ Last Tour 5
The slightly-electronic-sounding OP doesn’t quite fit the show, does it?
The phrase used was definitely ie dake ni. I’m not quite sure what that means, but…okay. I’ll just believe the subs on that one.
I wonder if Sentai is planning to dub these…I can imagine this show being dubbed. They wouldn’t need to pay too many VAs for it, for one thing.
Akogare is the word for desire or longing. It would be no surprise f there was an akogaru or akogarareru made from it as well.
Notice it’s “Yay!”, but with the word for house (ie) emphasised.
What is this fish dream, a metaphor for lesbians…?
The soundtrack guys must’ve had lots of fun striking cans or whatever.
I think this ED is different to the one last ep…Its name appears to be Amadare no Uta and it’s sung by the main VAs.
I bet the soundtrack guys hit a bell or two there…
Girls’ Last Tour 6
Oh no! It’s an Anime Scientist! Last time we had one, it was Shinawa (Kado), and you know how badly that went…
Interesting that the word for “takeoff” is “separation [from the] ground” literally.
Okay! I’m caught up to the weekly episodes now!

Girls’ Last Tour 8 - 9 | Houseki no Kuni 8 - 9 | Netjuu no Susume 8 - 9 | Mahoutsukai no Yome 8 - 9 | Juuni Taisen 9 - 10
Girls’ Last Tour 8
Why do I get the feeling the girls will lose the camera soon?
I noticed the names on the drawers before the girls did. I just never mentioned it.
That snow transition to Chi was…weird…
I think at least a small part of the problem with this show is that it’s drab. Another part is that your appreciation of the show depends on how you view it as relaxing or mind-numbing when you watch it week-to-week. Yet another aspect is that it rides upon, also, your appreciation of the philosophical content that you’re allowed to wade in as part of the show.
“Pumped up” doesn’t seem to be the right word, subbers. I don’t know why (maybe context?), but I don’t feel pumped up when I see the moon. The moon, to me, would be motivating if I were in their situation, but it sure wouldn’t pump me up…
“Magic power”? Judging from the mouthflaps, the word was mahou which just translates to “magic”, and would’ve done decently here too.
Please don’t ship the lolis…
Please don’t make the lolis drunk, either…
Underage drinking! Censor it, censor it! (half-joking tone)
Huh? There’s a small after-credits segment. Keep watching…
Uhh…*thinks about a compulsive habit involving hair eating* Yeah, no thanks.
Girls’ Last Tour 9
If humans are the only living things left, what about the fi-yeah, spoke too soon.
Why did a robot want to protect a fish anyway?
Yuu has discovered the human capacity to float after kicking.
Chi’s favourite conversant is a box. A grey box. Amazing… (sarcasm dripping)
Chi has discovered the thing from One Piece known as Super Drowning Skills.
As they said in Finding Nemo, “fish are friends, not food”! Hahaha.
These robots look like something out of a Shaun Tan book, yeeps. (Didn’t see the construct-o-bot too clearly the first time he appeared.)
It’s like a mother talking to a daughter, only this time it’s in robot-speak. All 1s and 0s…
I did not come here to watch robots explode. But these robots exploding…cool! Like an action movie!
What was that last part with the robot communication circles and patterns for? I guess it made more sense with the volume on, huh…
Houseki no Kuni 8
Why do I get the ominous feeling the biting “ice floe” was Aculeatus or someone like that (and not Ventricosus, the king)?
I love how grumpy Antarc is when they’re like, “Tha failure is all mine” and they’re just holding their hand like it’s no problem. The hand really is no problem, especially in contrast to Phos, come to think of it.
It’s hard to convince someone when you literally have no hands to do it with…
“I raise my hands in defeat.” – Phos in on my level of puns. I was going to make a hand pun and then they come up with this, which is much better than what I could think up on the fly.
Notice Phos is the only colour in this winter world…
I knew gold was soft and platinum too, but…what does that have to do with-oh wait. Never mind.
It’s like something out of a horror film…it’s sheer genius.
Oh dear. It seems I’ve fallen for a sensei-only yandere. What a problem…
Hey, doesn’t this look familiar? Like a kagune, for instance?
U---uwahhhhhhhh…My boy Antarc was taken and now he’ll be Lunarian weapons…Plus with those cracks, Phos looks sadder than usual…
Huh? ED change? “Liquescimus”?...Oh, I see.
This next ep preview…is weird. Especially because you see Kongou-sensei smash his head into a wall…
Houseki no Kuni 9
When they said spring was a time for change, I’m betting they didn’t mean this…(what happened to Phos)
Interestingly, the gold looks like a rapier. Or some other old-timey sword. Then it becomes a spider lily, which is a symbol of death.
Phos’s eyes look like Antarc’s used to…plus they’ve gained a personality like theirs too.
Crying? A defect? No, no…
A bit of a mess? No, Phos, you’re more than a mess.
Phos is still wearing the old uniform, huh. Mourning clothes.
Ah, so that’s where Phos mentions it’s gold and platinum. No wonder Karandi knew…
So it’s not “with great power comes great responsibility?” Or is it just the subbers having fun?
Cinnabar seems to be a lot like Bakugo. Just without the extreme “I’ll beat you up!” stuff.
Phos’s jerk face, LOL. Haven’t seent that in a while…
Netjuu no Susume 8
I’m really unsatisfied with the fact I’ll have to say goodbye to this show in 2 episodes…It’s been my favourite for this entire season, and when the competition is strong, that means this show – with all its fluff and misunderstandings has done itself more than enough to deserve a spot on my favourites list.
This is Netjuu no Matome (Summary of an MMO Junkie). Honestly, my translation works a lot better than CR’s this time don’tcha think?
Hayabusa (Falcon) Moving Company. Makes sense if Amazon is its RL counterpart…
…then it turns out they wrote Hayabusa backwards on the moving van (Sabuyaha). LOL wut.
The ep title seems to be “[I] took a step forward”.
Harth? Well, spoilers. You just ruined my life…sort of.
I half-expected Yuki’s hat to blow off, but hey, this is an MMO. Hats don’t blow off unless you want them to.
Notice Sakurai uses keigo. You use keigo with people you don’t really know, by the by.
Dammit! Sakurai’s hot but Harth is better! Argh, such a simple artstyle. I shouldn’t be worked up over hot guys when there’s such a simple artstyle…
The eyecatches are so good. Why would you get rid of them in this episode, of all episodes???
T-They could’ve been lying to each other, like in And You Thought There Is Never a Girl Online? ??? Gah, but this show is so sweet, I’ll forgive it.
As soon as Sakurai’s battery died, I swear I just heard The Entertainer in my head. As if it’s all some big dream I’m bearing witness to. But of course, it’s fiction. It’s basically a shared dream for the lot of us who know about it. A sweet shared dream we can access anytime.
Every time I look at that credit list and see Maeno as Harumi…yeah…not gonna think about it. But it seems double-Sakurai even got Harth as a role. Wowee, Sakurai!
Netjuu no Susume 9
One episode and one OVA to go before these guys are gone…
“I Call That Feeling Marble” – Why “marble”?
Sono Kimochi Ma-buru…so they weren’t quite lying when they said “marble”, eh? Sono Kimochi would translate to “that feeling”. However, ma-buru could be “marvel”, so it could be “I Call That Feeling [a] Marvel” (which makes a lot more sense).
I swore Morimori-chan would’ve asked to be partners! The fact that she didn’t was so disappointing…
There were some ducks drifting along in the foreground of one shot.
What happened to Harumi, come to think about it?
Is there an equivalent to TGIF in Japanese???
*Morimori-chan jumps out of chair* That’s me whenever I get a text, hahaha.
The show shows its Comico roots – that park background looks like it came out of a visual novel, which is a sort of trademark of Comico series like ReLIFE and it. Nanbaka, on the other hand…if you’ve seen it before, you’ll be aware of what that show’s visual quirk is.
So the woman’s name isn’t Sendai, but Yashiro? Okay then.
I want a Fujimoto-centric thing now. Please, someone? Do it for me?
I feel like Sakurai and Tenya Iida would be good brothers in an AU. They act in similar ways to each other.
Mahoutsukai no Yome 8
The shot to the head (Cartaphilus received) was so brief, I actually found it funny.
“This girl [Chise] has strange taste.” – Indeed, she does. But that’s why we follow her.
“But you don’t hate it, do you?”
Joseph…?
Mahoutsukai no Yome 9
(looks at shop sign when Chise sits down) Someone can’t spell “biscuits”…
How did Ruth learn the familiar binding spell anyway? Does Elias have a familiar, too? Or does he not have one since he’s part fairy?
It’s really hard to see what Elias’s monster form no. 3 (or is that no. 2?) looks like.
The humour in this show is somewhat unwarranted. It doesn’t always work, either. (I like a majorly consistent show best. Incongruous mood whiplashes don’t always work, after all.)
Is it Silver or Silky? I still don’t understand…
These roses must mean something in flower language…
Apparently there used to be an old trend of lesbian vampires. It’s a pretty old-fashioned trope, so it feels quite at home here. Update: Scratch that, a Leanan Sidhe is apparently more of a succubus, which was the exact vibe I was getting from her. Lesbian succubi? That’s a new concept.
That dragon!!!
Juuni Taisen 9
I think I’ve seen some spoilers saying Rabbit dies. I already knew everyone bar one *eyes Rat* will die anyway, but the game is in seeing how they die.
Were CGI models the best for this moment? Probably not, but there was some good movement from Usagi there.
Did you notice the shining light when Ox repositioned his sword (after he jumped)?
100-person…that reminds me of the SekaTsuyo “Hundred Throws” thing, but please don’t talk to me about SekaTsuyo…
Of course Kanae’s backstory has drinking in it. Her tagline has to do with “drunken rage”…(half-sarcastic)
Hey, this episode is titled after Rabbit. Isin’s genre-breaking strikes again. Also the scribbles on the faces is a nice touch, but not as good as the marionettes from Rampo Kitan.
I swear they’re relying on CGI models for the Ox and Tiger in this episode...
I’d like to headcanon Eiji is good at soccer. Not as the Ox, but just as himself.
Well, “CGI models” was definitely true right there when the Tatsumi bros attacked.
Those ice effects got put to good use, at least.
If you sit a bit of a distance from the screen, you can see they really are CGI models, the Ox and the Tiger. Graphinica’s really pulling out the stops – after all, didn’t they just say “don’t do what you’re unused to doing”?
Juuni Taisen 10
*as some insigificant sniper falls to his death* Yeah, let’s ignore the bad quality of that…
Dangit, Ushii hasn’t been given a birth year! No, why Isin??? Why??? (But does Kanae use Chrome on her iPad?)
Slicing the bridge is a bit much, y’know, Ushii - even for my suspension of belief.
Who knew a stab to the heart could be more touching than any other death in this show? Maybe it’s a stab…to my feels. (You’re all groaning now, aren’t you?)
So…no explanation for home boy Usagi, then?
I think two of the kanji from “To Treat A Man Beef From His Own Cow” (the title, not the episode) are from Gobouken (the name of Ushii’s sword, and the name also means “bayonet”), which is interesting.

Juuni Taisen 8 | Netjuu no Susume 7 | Mahoutsukai no Yome 7 | Houseki no Kuni 7 | Girls’ Last Tour 7
Juuni Taisen 8
I’m fresh off the Hozuki no Reitetsu season 1 boat and ready to rock! Let’s go.
Atari? Isn’t that some game company???
I can kinda feel Nisio Isin’s motivation waning, like Dragon and Snake don’t really matter. Dragon and Snake really don’t matter, considering they’ll die later anyways.
Well, at least Graphinica makes nice ice effects. They must be pretty coo-what, you want me to stop with the puns? I didn’t even finish that one.
I wonder if Ufotable hires Graphinica for 3D effects? Those fire effects look familiar.
Ooh…the Dragon brings the court to its knees. The more I watch, the more I’m convinced these Tatsumi twins are the Beppus. (I think I’ve said that for previous episodes, though.)
Hmm. I don’t appreciate the fact I just sat through two episodes’ worth of monologues, but hopefully we can actually get something good out of this. Like a battle.
Can Duodecuple please do something more useful in this show? As much as I like to hear Hiroki Yasumoto speak English, Duodecuple’s a lousy “god” to the zodiac and a horrible narrator, since the monologues do everything for him. Even Navi does better than this in the manga…
Netjuu no Susume 7
Sakurai has a pink keyboard. That suits his name (sakura = cherry blossom).
Interesting to note they don’t use the kanji for “I” (watashi) or “you” (kimi). There are two different yous and two different Is used to imply different genders.
Hayashi has signs saying moratta (received) which CR translates as “gift”. Hmm…there seems to be a disconnect between those two words.
Frigglin’ heck. It’s like these guys knew I was reading Haruhi Suzumiya light novels not too long ago!
Asymmetry short, ponytail long, mannish (?) short and ribbon hair (long). That’s what those hairstyles are.
As I pointed out once, this is from a web manga. Meta joke!
Netjuu no Susume eyecatches make good wallpapers once aga-what? Who’s this with the strange bow in their hair?
Giant burger plush. I want.
Koiwai uses Windows, LOL. (Vista, I think?)
The subbers spelt “server” wrong. It’s weird, because they spelt “sever” instead…
Moll-Oh. Morii. I get it now.
Koiwai has a sister? (based on switched genders)
Koiwai is gonna fricking pull these lovebirds together, isn’t he? He already did it in real life, so it’s not like he couldn’t here, that noob.
The butterfly effect in the background, haha. Harumi’s AFK, people. Respect the AFK people.
Oh…dear. They put Mamiko Noto on double cast duty, which makes sense, but they put Tomoaki Maeno as Harumi, which…uh, suits that muscular woman. Yuki though…they cast Yuki with someone else. I think, from the credit list, the brown character who’s paired off with Yuki is called “Hearth”.
Mahoutsukai no Yome 7
There are some interesting parallels between Alice/Renfred and Chise/Elias…
That mandrake is so rattled…I like it. It’s cute.
Serously, what do you call the sheep-thing?
When you get the chance to, pause and read the note. It’s not proper English, but that is some fancy handwriting…
Holy No Face, Batman! It’s a spirit that looks like the internet group Anonymous!
Is the church grim a fairy?
Chise is such an otome game heroine. I’d pay good money for an otome game with her as the protag.
Houseki no Kuni 7
Snow is a symbol of sadness…
Cinnabar doesn’t have blobs of mercury around themselves in the OP. Interesting.
Hibernation in Japanese is literally “sleeping [for] winter”. The language really can be simple sometimes.
They made these pretty dresses, all for sleeping huh? That Kongo must like being surrounded by gems then…haha.
I know gems don’t have any genders, but I like Antarcticite already. His extremely bishie look makes him a contender for my heart. I heard through the grapevine Antarcticite was a fan favourite too, so that’s…unfortunate. (Although En’s quite the fan favourite in Boueibu, so what gives?)
Antarcticite reminds me of Rod from Cinderella Phenomenon. I’ve been working on that otome game as of late, so of course I’d make the connection.
Let’s be real: does anyone find Phos endearing?
I think I saw an image of this on Yoichi Nishikawa’s Twitter. Dangit, Antarcticite spoilers.
Uh…question? Is this work shoujo or josei or what? I get shoujo vibes from it because it’s all long leggy stuff like CLAMP. Update: It’s seinen! Shocking, isn’t it?
Phos and her bowl, it almost makes Phos look drunk, haha.
“I do the things I can as best I can.” – Nice quote…uh, Antarcticite? Or Phos?
Is Phos gonna fall i-spoke too soon. Completely anticipated this show’s direction right there.
Why does a sheet work on Kongo too? Humour? It definitely worked on me, if that was the case.
Antarc is such a daddy’s bo-I mean, gem.
Whoa! That was freaky! Did they just imply-oh sorry. It’s a hard topic to speak about on the internet.
I wonder, could I write…actually no. I think I’ve done that already. (I was thinking of doing an article about how replacing oneself over and over with different parts could easily make you a different person, but I’ve done that kind of discussion already in Next to Me.)
Girls’ Last Tour 7
Those pipes are CGI. My CGI sense is tingling about it.
This show is a Problem when on Normal Mode. (What I mean by Normal Mode was that it was easier to see when they were in the temple a few episodes back – that’s the single exception.)
Yuu: a worse photobomber than Yumoto…
I’d like to make a joke about how the arrow points left and they just said “right”, but I’d need a visual cue, dangit. Too lazy for visual cues right now…
I thought Chi would be really grumpy as she slid down the chute/pipe/whatever, but she’s having fun too.
The button colours are around the wrong way. What the heck happened to make them like that???
Potato powder? Y’mean, potato starch???
This kneading montage is quite obviously looped.
Oh great. We got Shokugeki no Souma in Girls’ Last Tour, for some reason…

Netjuu no Susume 4 - 5 | Mahoutsukai no Yome 4 - 5 | Juuni Taisen 6
I’ve just rolled out the Netjuu no Susume and Mahoutsukai no Yome tags for the season.
Netjuu no Susume 4
I think Kazuomi’s senior is called Sendai (translates to “previous generation”), but I’m not quite sure…Don’t quote me on that.
Kazuomi as Kanbe confirmed!
Talking about anime in real life gives me that same feel too, Morimori.
Whoa! Lilac put in about $100 my money! That’s a lot!
So basically, don’t jinx yourself? The Lilac interlude reminded me of YoI’s chibis…
If I played Yu-Gi-Oh, I’d probably find Morimori’s web card draw funnier, but it’s still funny all the same.
Argh, Sakurai’s friend (whose name I can’t remember after one week)! Don’t talk about boobs here! (Update: Koiwai. That’s his name.)
Oomori is a Japanese word that means “a large serving”, but…I can tell they shoved a joke in there because I knew that. It involves one of the mori kanji from Morimori’s name too.
FaceCall (TM).
*fangirl screams into distance* I love this showwwwwww! (Oh sorry. Bad Kung-fu Panda reference…)
Netjuu no Susume 5
Poor Morimori is stuck between Kanbe and Koiwai...
LOL, so basically Kazuomi and Sakura-chan are having a waifu war. I don’t like waifu wars myself –people should have husbandos. People always coexist better when they have husbandos, because then they’re likely to be shippers. Shippers, by virtue of liking couples, tend to appreciate other people’s husbandos better.
Oh yeah. I forgot how people count things in doujins (in Don’t Become an Otaku, Shinozaki-san!) and loot boxes like this.
Aw, Morimori’s makeover hit me right in the sweet spot I reserve for transformations. That’s a very precious spot to me, ‘cos you know how much I love transformations.
Double Sakura-chan manages to strike it lucky! By the by, I only just realised Kazuomi is voiced by Takuma Terashima.
Mahoutsukai no Yome 4
LOL, Barney’s a strange one.
I thought that blonde was Lindel, actually, Chise. It’s strange when you can’t see the body of the person, eh?
Aaaaaaaaand…again with the drowning. Seriously, if Chise does this once an arc all she needs to do is learn to swim and then she’ll never get captured again. (i.e. You can only use your trump card so many times.)
English people do Japanese things number 3. Or is that 4?
Mahoutsukai no Yome 5
Oh geesh. ANN already spoilered Elias’s tongue for me. It’s such a turn off…
Oh course Chise’s pale. She’s seethrough! (Update: Sorry, bad joke.)
Yandere man. They’re fairly common these days, apparently *looks at Diabolik Lovers*.
I’d use that spooky text meme here, but that would involve some swearing…so have a link to it instead.
Ooooooh. Matthew’s as broken as Kiyoko (Juuni Taisen). No turning back now, as they say. (Basically, they aired this around Halloween, didn’t they?)
What are the blue flowers called? They’re so pretty! Update: Nemophila. Thanks Weekend Otaku.
Ooh, that “When am I going to die?” is the perfect stinger.
Juuni Taisen 6
Ooh, we knew Monkey and Sheep had to die, but by delaying their deaths…well, that kind of threw us for 2 eps. We’re now back on the path, so Horse is next.
Notice 壱 and so on are the numbers 1 – 6, just in a very old-fashioned way that doesn’t get used much these days.
This jungle scene takes me back to Concrete Revolutio’s second season…
Isn’t the point of a warrior to be silent in most cases? Why does Horse always have to yell?
“Panic room”? Horse is the only one who’s panicking here.
Overconfidence is the key to death in a lot of these battle royales. Reassurance won’t help, Horse boy.

Girls’ Last Tour 1 - 2 | Juuni Taisen 4 - 5 | Ancient Magus’ Bride 2 - 3 | Idolish7 1 - 2
The only one I’ve properly kept up with out of my 5 shows this season is Juuni Taisen, so I’m going to roll out the tag for that show first. Also, the Idolish7 first two episodes became free recently so I cover them here too.
Girls’ Last Tour 1
Pipes…grunge…hey, doesn’t this look familiar? *glares at Princess Principal*
I’ve only seen one episode of Made in Abyss but I get a bad feeling about these character designs…
I’m worried about this falling into the Yuri Divide. Sure, the fandom can do what it wants, but please don’t ship the lolis.
Oh right. Wind, meaning there’s an opening somewhere.
That dramatic eye opening made the outside world seem like an anticlimax. C’mon, show. You can do better than that.
I feel like Chito says “shut up” a lot, even though she’s only said it twice. I get how she’s kind of relatable, but this show’s not on the level of MMO Junkie or even Juuni Taisen. It’s just kinda…average.
Did Tangled ever teach you how to use a pan, Yuu?
Everything’s kinda WWI-esque. It’s kinda unsettling for a person who’s never properly seen war.
Even in this snowy world, you could still learn to hunt and cook, right?
If you kill your friend in a post-apocalyptic world, you’ll be lonely by war. Don’t kill each other, kiddos. Lives are precious.
This is serious, kiddos! C’mon!
Eating snow is meant to quench your thirst, but it’s not any good for hunger. Apparently.
Well, I’m quite lukewarm on this. I’ve already found my seasonal hits and I study globalisation, so it’s no surprise I find this stuff a lot like my weekly content. Nonetheless, whoever decided to put Classicaloid behind a paywall’s gonna have to pay (pun not intended)!
Girls’ Last Tour 2
I half expect a “hey you!” joke but they don’t work in Japanese…
What are the wiggly things on the ground next to Chi and Yuu in the OP??? Leeches???
Oh geez. Now they even draw cleavage on the lolis. Meaning these guys are just drawn young. That’s both a good and a bad thing.
Those letters seem to be…no language in particular.
Book burning. What a thing to throw in.
Oh. The blocky writing is actually hiragana or katakana. You just need to look at it closely.
I think that was meant to be comedy…but it was so cruel. Poor book.
I think what they’re saying is “don’t burn history”, but I think we learnt that a long time ago when the Chinese burnt books.
Maybe if these gals had Bear Grylls they’d survive a bit longer…?
Lemme guess: either Yuu burnt them all, destroyed them all or read them all.
The original joke was gomen wa, where ne is similar to wa. At least, I think it’s a wa. It could be a re.
The red circle said Yuu wrote the me wrong, so it’s actually probably gonun ne.
Well, someone funded a sakuga ending. Like the one from ACCA with dancing Lotta.
Juuni Taisen 4
I find it heavily symbolic that Nezumi likes eating eggs. Eggs represents chickens…and conundrums…
Ooh…bam. Nisio Isin’s going the Middle Eastern proxy route.
Hmm. Interesting, it’s basically Bystander Effect: the War.
The anime’s currently ahead of the manga, so I got slightly startled by Boar’s appearance. However, I’ve read some spoilers elsewhere, so I knew she was going to be in Monkey’s story somewhere else. I just didn’t think it was this soon.
Recycled footage…bad show! Bad!
LOL, CGI tank. Sorry for ruining the mood, but that stood out a bit too much for my liking.
“…participation is mandatory…” – Huh. I never saw that detail coming.
“Ow. I thought you were against violence.” – (LOL.) Yeah, but apathy isn’t good when something’s coming to get you in the sewers, so I’m with Monkey on this.
Wa-wait! Y’mean, Rabbit can use Chicken to use Eye of the Cormorant…so Monkey will die this ep??? [Monkey dying]’s exactly what I’ve been fearing for the duration of this episode. Update: If you want the spoiler version from the end of the ep…she didn’t die.
Notice Monkey uses moves that use the strength of her opponent against her. It’s a very pacifist touch, so to speak.
There are a series of images that flash by before the casual clothes part of the ED. If you observe them closely, you’ll see a lot of them involve the number 12. (Example: the cubes have lines on them that read “12”.)
LOL, I think I only just now spotted the bodyguard behind Boar. He’s hard to spot behind all the splatter.
Home boy and his T-bars make me laugh every time. Then of course, there’s Mr Floofy Jacket.
Oh, it’s Duodecuple who’s doing these next ep previews. I couldn’t figure out who it was last time I tried.
Juuni Taisen 5
Genius, with a capital letter? They keep calling him the Genius of Slaughter in his backstory, so I guess that’s where it’s from.
A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing is the same in Japanese as it is English, so at least the pun is there.
LOL, this episode is pretty much all “stuff goes kaboom!”, and that’s pretty much the way of the Sheep. Haha.
Of mice and men, eh??? (I read enough spoilers to know who the victor is…but I don’t know how they win.)
Whoa, yeah, baby! Bring that action! (That happens to be exactly the way I imagine my own action stories – from the front seat, so to speak.)
The snake’s winking! So cute! I want me some plushies like those!
Old-Timer. Haha, great pun on so many, many levels.
Ancient Magus’ Bride 2
I started doing a productivity blog and got caught up in it so much, I neglected anime! Imagine that – me, neglecting anime!
Oh, there’s a little “open” sign near the door.
It’s anime Hogwarts! Only the train is more colorful…LOL. (Actually, Little Witch Academia is anime Hogwarts, so scratch that.)
Ooh, Elias has a good taste in faces. Not that I’m complaining or anything. (Looks like En-chan, to boot.)
Elias is like the NEET genius of the magic world here. It’s kinda funny.
What’s a Gem’s Bee? (No spoilers, I’m not a manga reader!)
Angelica’s like her (Chise’s) mother, LOL. Seeing Elias properly emote is hilarious, hilarious! (Why I procrastinated on this show? Because it’s a slow mover that should be appreciated in its own time, but I’m not good with binging so…that’s why I’m only watching it now.)
Oh! No wonder Angelica seems like a mother. She is a mother.
Ooh! Ice flowers. Pretty. I’ve already gotten way too many screenshots for my own good out of this show…As a writer, I feel like I could never make a story like this. This is a story best fostered under someone else’s hand.
Poppies, eh? To me, poppies symbolise war and sticking out, but that’s just a product of where I was born. In the case of war, poppies represent the blood of the fallen and those who rise above that.
Speaking of stories I couldn’t write, I’m currently bringing Next to Me to a close. I feel like that’s my best match to AMB, which is why my thoughts dwell on stories so much right now. Next to Me is one of those stories where the world matters just as much as the character building, if not more, which is why the understated majesty of AMB is a good match.
Seeing a blonde Englishman use –kun like a Japanese is a bit disorienting.
Simon really treats Chise like a child, eh?
The “open” sign now says “close”. What is this house, an apothecary?
The CGI door was a bit weird…
Whoa! That was a bit of a fast approach into the dragon scene, but apparently the dragon part of AMB was really hyped…
Ancient Magus’ Bride 3
How does skelly-man see like that?
The dragons look like…Pokémon! (That was my first thought, LOL.)
This blonde is Lindel from the promo material I’ve read. He looks like zaShunina (Kado), so it’s best to be wary of him.
Ooh, now there’s an application of shadows I’d never be able to think of!
Holy flame spirits, Batman! Elias has a tongue! (I got spoilered on that by ANN, but it’s crazy seeing it in context.)
Ancient mages shouldn’t be hot like zaShunina! Where are the real old fogeys like Kiku(hiko, SGRS)?
Uncle Nevin! I found it extremely charming this uil has a name beyond “Uil”.
Can these dragons read minds? Or is it just the power of Dragon Knowledge (TM)?
When they say “Anime saved my life”, I guess they never meant it this literally…or at least, Chise never meant it this literally.
That dragon has way too many eyes!!! Yipes.
Huh. I haven’t felt this feeling since SGRS. The feeling of a masterpiece on my eyeballs.
羽鳥チセ <- That’s how you write Chise’s name, so they did another “Western creature uses Japanese knowledge” thing…
D’aww. That was beautiful! No wonder people like it, now I like it too. Nothing short of majestic, guys, nothing short of majestic.
Hey, the guy who voiced Nevin is called Ryuuzaburo. Ryuu means dragon in this case. (Meta pun!)
Idolish 7 1
Crunchyroll really tried to hype this thing up! Wow. So, here I am at what could pretty much be called a premiere event of the simulcast commentary. Enjoy, friends.
By the way, I’ve tried a bit of the Idolish 7 game (but since it was on BlueStacks, I couldn’t do the “rhythm” part of the rhythm game very well and subsequently couldn’t get too far) and of course, there’s a vested interest through Shirai, Masuda and Nishiyama. Update: There’s no Nishiyama in sight. Sorry, guys.
Oh wow. This is exactly as I remember it in the game, right down to the word!
Yay! I was looking forward to seeing the basketball scene adapted, since it’s possibly the only scene I got to experience in the game in its (Japanese) entirety. Bring the dang game to the Western world, Bandai!
Riku is such a pure cinnamon bun when he gets the basketball back.
LOL, Nagi is such a flirt, kyaa~ (semi-sarcastic).
I don’t remember them dropping Trigger’s name so early…geesh, my memory must be sketchier than I thought it was.
Just as a reference, Iori (black) is 17 while Riku (red) is 18.
Ooh, I just spotted a Trigger ad on one building during that cut.
Ooh, good sense of drama these guys have got going.
Idolish 7 2
Expressiveness for a grump like Yamato, LOL.
LOL, there’s a shark in the back…
Iori has a cat shirt, hahaha.
Cool and sharp…stationery? Like a compass?
Iori’s so sarcastic, I can’t tell f he’s ever being serious or not.
I don’t know who’s my favourite so far out of these i7 boys. Probably the one similar to my husbando, Tamaki.
Ahh, gotta love me a good, honest hardworking anime gal. You don’t see them very often, y’know. It’s refreshing.
That was a great Iori impression Mitsuki did, even visually (note: I didn’t listen to Mitsuki do the impression, I only read the subs…hence my comment). Troyca really captured the style of the game, to boot, which is another cherry on the cake.
Notice Iori stands in front of the D.C. (da capo) and leaves to reveal it.
I researched who Riku’s brother is while I was watching ep 1 and…(spoilers for the uninitiated!) the brother is Tenn of Trigger!
There was a soba ad in the back in one lingering shot…
Hey, I get the feeling there’s CGI involved in this dance segment, but it’s…hardly detectable! Amazing! These guys seem to have gone a long way since the horribly animated Monster Generation MV.
Notice they (Troyca) only use CGI in (mostly) shots which don’t involve closeups.
Of course Nagi winks in the middle of his performance…
Whoo, yeah. That was a bold move by Crunchyroll, and of course that would grab me more than just leaking the first ep. I wonder if any critics covered this on their blogs…? Or would it not matter, since critics wouldn’t cover this “uncritical slop” anyway? Nonetheless, I covered it, and that’s what matters! (Update: Yeah, all the critics – Frog-kun, Lauren in Space, Mage in a Barrel etc. - passed on it. As expected of those critics…)

Netjuu no Susume 2 - 3 | Black Clover 2 | Classicaloid 28 | Juuni Taisen 2 - 3 | Code: Realise 2 | Houseki no Kuni 2
I lost Classicaloid after episode 28…good thing I had Girls’ Last Tour on tap. (See Houseki no Kuni’s simulcast commentary for more details on that.)
Netjuu no Susume 2
Aw, I’m not really one for romances, but once again, these guys are making me warm and fuzzy on the inside. Hayashi and his cry emote really get to me – I love bishies who aren’t gung-ho macho.
Sakurai has an email from Comico! LOL!
I’m with Lilac on this love story, LOL.
“Sakura-chan”!!! Oh, it’s so cute. It also probably explains why Sakurai = Lily, eh?
This isn’t a manga, it’s an online manga. Same diff, Hime-chan.
If you pause at Moriko’s email, you’ll see it’s riddled full of keigo (polite language).
Sakurai Yuuta voiced by Sakurai Takahiro, LOL. Didn’t notice that the first time around.
It’s staying on, even if for just warm fuzzies.
Netjuu no Susume 3
I’m hearing the OP for the first time and…it’s actually pretty good! It fits the entire cute aesthetic of the show.
Irina was only just talking about this.
I’ve heard people call Moriko Morimori-chan across the ‘net and I didn’t understand it until Koiwai said it just then. Nicknames mean you’re uber close in Japanese terms.
I had the volume on while Koiwai and Morimori-chan (LOL) had their chat and I couldn’t hear her cry. So much for Mamiko Noto being a top-notch seiyuu, eh?
LOL, Koiwai’s so fun as a character.
Eyyyyyyyyyy. This green counter boy is probably Kanbe. You can tell by the hair colour!
Is Li-chan Lilac or Lily?
LOL, the Rose of Versailles parody is too good.
A…dog PUG? Apparently not. Never played WoW, of course I wouldn’t know the term.
Oh, I preempted the show’s caption. These sorts of captions were used in Superstar wa Nemurenai too, so this feels nostalgic in a sense.
I know the feel, Lily. I’ve been in online arguments before (you’ll see in previous simulcast commentaries I cite the magicalgirlsandcerulean one a lot).
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! These too-cute-for-this-world characters steal my heart againnnnnnnnnnn!
Interesting that Nico is called just that in the credits.
Black Clover 2
That very scribbly handwriting appears to be…English. Mostly correct English, to boot.
Someone decided on sakuga this ep, it seems…
Okay, I think I’ve had enough echo reverb for a lifetime. That’s going on hold.
Classicaloid 28
Ah, the new OP. Same song, Dovo-chan + “Wataru”, a few new staff…but otherwise, same old, same old. That’s what I like.
Oh, I almost missed the sign that says “Place all used tableware in the sink – Kanae”. Thanks, subbers.
Huh. The word “respect” is teinei, which technically means “politeness”. But “respect” works better in context, I guess.
Sometimes, Beet says things that actually make sense + are quotable. Get me some quotes of this man (LOL).
This shopping list stuff, if it isn’t something you’ve done for your family already, is normally something for kids in Japan as part of fostering independence. So, I think Wa-kun’ll be the winner here.
Garland chysanthemum is the only one of these I’m unfamiliar with. Apparently in Japanese, it’s called shingiku, which would correspond to those kanji I saw on the shopping list.
Why is Dovo-chan going with Wa-kun? (LOL?)
There’s a coffee shop called Mogura (mole) behind Liszt in one scene.
Wa-kun reminds me a lot of the Beppus (Boueibu). Seriously, we need a comparison of those three.
Symphony No. 7. The Allegretto seems to be stirring some memory in me, but I can’t seem to detect what particularly or why it does. However, Wikipedia does note Wagner liked it. In fact, Wagner admired it.
Yup, Pad-kun. That’s (the bit about “apotheosis of dance”) the bit Wikipedia says.
I think the hippo -> idiot joke works better in Japanese (kaba -> baka, it’s a reversal of syllables).
See? Wa-kun is like the Beppus! Lookit that boy blush.
How does one spell “yeah” anyway? I swear I’ve seen 2 or 3 variants of the word alone…
Oh, Schu-san wasn’t around this episode. He got taken away by the kite strings like last time, come to think of it. Admittedly, I think I liked Schu better when he wasn’t a rapper, although apparently this time he’s going to go into reggae, judging by the rasta cap he had in the OP.
Ohh, a goukon I see. It’s translated as “singles’ party”, but…well, let’s say it’s a little more complicated than that. “Singles’ party” translates sufficiently, but goukon have certain connotations to them that make them uniquely goukon, much like sushi needs vinegared rice to be sushi, anime needs to be at least partially made in Japan and so on.
Juuni Taisen 2
I think Nezumi being sleepy is a pun (neru -> to sleep).
Oh, hey. They do look like the Justice League.
By the by, this OP is called “Rapture”. Not “Rupture”, even though that would sound more appropriate in some contexts.
The CGI models at the end of the OP look like figures. Either I give you my money for good quality versions of those or you…shouldn’t waste your time, Graphinica. (Especially the Tatsumi bros.)
The title of this episode literally translates to “chicken cry, dog steal”. I dunno what idiom’s behind it, so I’ll leave that to the subbers.
Well, a manhole is one way to lay low…
“Old Timer”. Good pun there.
Knowing the Beppus, I’d say the Tatsumi was talking about his bro and not Inou.
Well, that was a bit too much blood. Good thing is wasn’t as bad as King’s Game.
Finally, an Ume show I can really kick back and not worry about! Young Black Jack and a lot of shows I go into for Ume are normally shams or locked out by licensing, so I’m finally psyched to get a proper Ume show to back.
Uuma walking through the turnstiles was…pretty funny, actually. (LOL.)
How does one out-crazy Rabbit, with his high heels and booty shorts???
Well, as they say, when an unstoppable object meets an unmoving force, kaboom! (Or…something like that…)
According to the manga, Dotsuku was a teacher. Can you really imagine that though? Dotsuku, a teacher??? Of little kids???
Note Niwatori is shown with science things. She must know some stuff about Dotsuku’s poisons too, although she probably didn’t expect them. Update: Read ahead, and let’s say I’m right about one thing and wrong about another.
I wonder which Tatsumi bro is the NEET and which is the gambler…
Rabbit home boy’s too good, but Ushii and his fluffy jacket are better.
Nezumi and Twelve Mart, LOL.
Juuni Taisen 3
I read up on some spoilers for this…so I’m only just keeping abreast of some of you guys out there. However, the TV Tropes page notes that the OP shows who the winner of the Taisen is if you pay close attention…
Ugh, I love Nezumi and Ushii too much. Mah Ume-boy is good as gold – this is a step up, considering I’ve started some very bad anime because of Ume-chan – but even though I don’t know Shun Horie very well, I like me a bishie like that too! (Horie’s a tad quiet, but otherwise he’s pretty good too.)
It was much clearer that Niwatori was affected by the One Man Army even during her meetup with the Monkey in the manga, so…yeah. I’ll give it that much.
Silly name of “Cockscomb” aside, that’s the name of Niwatori’s spading fork. Cockscomb.
I’m properly listening to the OP and ED for the first time, but I like the ED more than the OP. Probably because the Justice League is funny but the ED’s casual stuff is better.
Oh, there’s a post-credits scene. Keep watching.
Oh, that’s…pretty powerful stuff, Niwatori. Wowee, Juuni Taisen’s got the mark of a high ranker, from its staff to its OP and ED quality. Tough competition this season, as I keep saying.
“Even a monkey can fall from a tree.” – That’s a kotowaza meaning “Even experts fail sometimes”, which is an important adage for this show.
Sharyuu was taught by sages, so that comment is interesting, Duodecuple…or Horse…or whoever’s narrating this.
The pun in the next ep title is something to do with the word saru (monkey). Noting that saseru is a thing in Japanese, maybe saru is a shortened form of that Nisio Isin wanted to cash in on…?
Update: I finally figured out Dotsuku’s pun! Make the tsu smaller, give the ku a tenten and you have…the katakana pronunciation for dog!
Code:Realise 2
Get me a man like Impey and I’ll be set for life, LOL.
“If you touch me, you’ll melt.” – The juxtaposition of Cardia’s sadness with a punchline makes for something very interesting, indeed.
Saint??? Is that his first name or his title?
These ornaments on Finis and the queen – the pseudo-Chinese or Japanese ones – stand out a bit compared to all the steampunk stuff.
Oh, dearie me. The cars and carriages in this are CGI and it shows.
“…Baron Gilford Dudley and party.” – LOL.
“He loves his food too.” – I’d assume ths subject of this is Sisi, but the way this sentence was framed made it sound like Impey loves his food too. Which seems to be true, since Impey likes cooking.
These really bright scenes are kinda sudden. They don’t quite work with the rest of the show, and that’s because they’re probably stills you collect in the game.
I keep thinking this dude with the guns is Fran. Geez, it’s quite the bad case of Six Same Faces…however, this one has purple eyes while Fran’s are green.
C’mon! Stockinged legs aren’t that indecent, Lupin. I know you run by Victorian London standards, but still.
Okayyyyyyyyy. Vampire hunter fits the theme of historical fictional bishies, but…you really don’t imagine Van Helsing to look like this. Just sayin’.
The glowy blood was probably unnecessary…
I feel like I should put this on hold, just to be on the safe side. That means the lineup is settled. I’ll update the sheet when I can...eesh though. There’s some tough competition this season…
Houseki no Kuni 2
The two moons are a nice touch.
This OP is way cool. It’s such a visual spectacle.
By the way, I’ve heard good things about Girls’ Last Tour so I may binge it next month (November) and it may even challenge for one of the top spots.
Uh, cleavage? Not to use a dirty joke here, but gems are androgynous. They have no cleavage, so to speak.
Oh, Dia’s fighting style is like baseball. I see.
Huh. I should really write about identity and belonging in this series. Dia’s a really interesting character, pretty much denying their own name and nature because they see Bort as the “true diamond”.
“…tried to lend a hand.” – Oh, the irony of you missing a hand, Dia.
Notice Phos is still holding Dia’s hand as she talks with Jade and Euc.
Holy snails, Batman! Arima (Boueibu) wouldn’t like this for sure…
Wow, this truly is a new innovation in anime. Certainly, traditional animation can’t do this.
Wowee, this ED is something else. As I said, it’s tough competition this season. Girls’ Last Tour may even just miss out for the ground-breaking nature of this show alone, even though Kado is its precedent 3D-wise (and on the 3D front, I accepted that very well).

BnHA 38 (FINAL) | Idolmaster Side M 0 | Black Clover 1 | Juuni Taisen 1 | Reflection 11 | Urahara 1 | Sengoku Night Blood 1 | TsukiPro 1 | Classicaloid 27
I saw King’s Game with my anime club recently. It’s definitely not going to be covered here as a result…
Also, I thought I was going to miss out on Classicaloid s2 because Hidive is annoying, but apparently s2 ep 1 will go free in a week, like all the other services!
BnHA 38 (FINAL)
I’ll miss these guys when they’re gone. Oh well. At least we have an s3 lined up.
Wow. Apparently Himiko is popular with the Western fanbase so it was weird seeing her animated for once.
(as Tomura gets out of the room) Tomura reminds me of Bakugo right now. Talented, but angry.
Deku, why are you wearing a shirt saying “T-shirt”? Don’t think I can’t read Japanese, you BnHA staff.
Ashido has a singlet that says “Pinky” on it, as expected of her.
Apparently, putting an arm around someone when they’re not OK with it can be counted as “harassment”…at least, where I am, it can.
That face of Tomura’s is creepy. However, he has a beauty mark near his mouth, which is a nice touch.
Why does he have to not put down his third finger, of all the fingers??? Dangit, Tomura. You’re weird.
An ideal can’t be human and a human can’t be an ideal…can they? That’s what All Might is trying to suggest, I think.
“Let’s capture All For One properly this time.” - Does this mean they let it go at least one time before?
Shouto’s got some strawberry milk with him. That’s cute.
Oh my gosh. What a stinger! Now I really want that 3rd season, dangit.
Idolmaster 0
So, here it is. The first show of the fall 2017 season. Apparently it runs a little longer than the usual, but I’m fine with that…(It means I can procrastinate for longer, LOL.)
Okay, what? It’s visually pretty but this MV is so angsty, regardless of if you have the volume on or not. At least when the song ends, it sounds kind of like you’re in a real concert…
This is my first shot at Idolmaster things, but it seems like these guys left 961 (Kuroi) Productions for a year…? What’s up with that?
This boy with the glasses is Nishiyama, isn’t it?! Update: ANN doesn’t say he is, although I could easily be wrong…I’ve been wrong on these sorts of things before…
This brunette appears to be called Touma (based on audio).
Shouta reminds me of Goku from Saiyuki last season.
The guitar music while Jupiter are in the city is really nice, and the “little angels” reminds me that Kanade (Hoshino, of Superstar wa Nemurenai) never got that far…at least, from what I handled.
Oh, you can actually translate “live concert” as just “live” in English? Well, I’m not as up to scratch on idols as other people are, so…yeah.
315 = Saitou. Okay then. Plus, you can’t see Saitou’s eyes for some reason.
Saitou and Touma’s competing really makes me LOL. It’s on point.
Yeah, the more I watch, the more I seem to be missing some information. Like I’m going into Katsugeki blind (that’s a bad comparison though, considering I didn’t go into Katsugeki blind)…
I realised they don’t use hako like from Superstar wa Nemurenai. (Hako is a word regarding the concert venue, IIRC.) Hokuto used “live house”, subbed as “venue”, at one point though.
Oh, so Hokuto was a model and Shouta has an older sister. Okay then.
These still shots…they’re kinda jarring, but it’s understandable for a prequel that’s 10 minutes longer than the norm.
It’s so obvious Hokuto works on a Mac, LOL.
All these girls that appear in these brief are Idolmaster girls too, right?
Ribbon-chan must be from the original Idolmaster as well, right?
Oh wait, Ribbon-chan is one of the middle girl in all these 765 ads! She’s…uh, Haruka Amamiya? Am I correct? Update: Haruka Amami is the name of the girl I was after, but I’m not sure if Ribbon-chan is Haruka…
There’s something about the fluoro green jackets that really gets me. It’s a transformation, and I love transformations, you know? The CGI integration (if there was any, it was hard to detect) was pretty top notch, too, which means the show’s future looks bright regardless of whether I continue with it or not.
The caption prior to Ken’s debut says “Jupiter’s Rebirth – a few days later”.
Is Ken voiced by Nishiyama? Update: Nope, his voice is by Kengo Kawanishi.
Hey wait. These guys? They’re from the promo stuff I saw on this show, although I don’t remember their names…
I assume this last shot was of the player-insert character, although I couldn’t see them very well.
Well, that was a fairly good start to the season. It wasn’t too big, but it was pleasing enough that I’ll stay on for another ep.
Black Clover 1
When you don’t subscribe to Jump but you subscribe to their email newsletter, you hear about the same popular series again and again. Black Clover is one that gets brought up a few times in said email newsletter, and because it’s got magic and an underdog story where the protagonist starts with no magic, it sounds like it’s for me (because I love to write stories like that – “Future is Crimson” started out with those traits, for example).
Uh, okay. I knew this was coming, but the last time a girl was used as a “prize to be won”, that was Bakuman, and I did not like that aspect of Bakuman.
Marimo boy, people don’t clap like that.
Ouch, Asta. Yuno’s right about you not being attractive to women. Yuno is also voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki, which means Yuno is probably more right than you think he is, since Shimazaki is the voice of a lot of woman-getters in anime such as Suna (Ore Monogatari). If this show is going to pull a Gurren Lagann though, you could be attractive to women in the future though (LOL).
I think I got slightly dizzy just watching Asta do situps…
This show at least has the Western (as in, spaghetti Western) look going for it. IIRC, Asta’s group is the Black Bulls, so yeah, I’m not wrong there.
We’ve had the Pirate King, the Hokage, the who-knows-what of shinigami and now the Wizard King. Don’t be so cliched.
I swear Asta is going to fight Yuno one day. That sort of thing’s always big in Naruto and every single other shonen out there.
Cue Blue Exorcist plot twist. It’s interesting when taken into account of the show, but Blue Exorcist is also cited most times when it comes to “cliched shonen”.
You can always spot a cliched jerk, regardless of the series.
“Tatoes”? Like, potatoes?
I swear when Asta yelled “I’m never gonna give up!!!!!!!!!!!!” with that pan to the Wizard King statue, that was at least the 5th time he’d yelled. Good thing I had the volume off, eh?
These chains look like they came out of Hand Shakers! Eurgh! (At least the CGI is handled slightly better here and there’s no garish colours to deter me from watching the rest of the show.)
“Underground”? Y’mean this is inching towards Half-Paid Heroes territory? Hey hey, I have my ways and Yuki Tabata has his. (Unfortunately, enough spoilers have told me Asta will get a 5 leaf clover, but…yeah. This is straight shonen, plain and simple. Of course he gets a grimoire.)
If I had enough ideas, then maybe one day I could write you all a shonen plot generator. Luckily, Google tells me no one’s written one yet, so…”In a world where A (magic/pirating/manga…) is everything, the main boy (or girl!) is aiming to become a B (a master of A, or a very revered position involving A). Using C (a tool of some sort, incl. magical skills or birthright-linked traits), many friends and possibly a lot of shouting, (s)he will do whatever it takes to become a B.” (LOL.)…Hey, you could even apply this to writing novels! Someone make me a manga on that, stat!
Interesting how Asta hasn’t given up for all this time and gives up when Revchi tells him, even though he’s been up against Yuno and the entire world since day 1. You gotta admit he developed a hard skin, no matter how cliched this is.
Huh. It’s like Negima, eh? A hero who can easily fall to the dark side?
It’s…not bad, actually. I’m probably only attached to it for all the shonen comparisons I can throw at it and the analysis of how my previous daydreamt stories match up to it, but hey. It must’ve gotten an anime for a reason.
Juuni Taisen 1
I’ve read the first two chapters of the manga, so I actually know something about this show. (It seems to be a straight adaptation – book -> anime -> manga so far, aside from using slightly different titles between manga and anime.) I don’t care about Hikaru Nakamura or Nisio Isin, it’s Ume-chan for me!
I’d assume these episode titles are Nisio Isin’s trademark wordplay, but of course they only work in Japanese and I’m not educated enough in Japanese to know what all these sayings are so…*shrugs*
Actually seeing this stuff animated just shows how cool it is, entertainment-wise. Also, did you notice the little “tusk” in Inoshishi’s ponytail?
Duodecuple. Like Decim, but for 12.
Now it’s a straight, but fleshed out, adaption of the manga.
You’d know, when you are an avid mystery writer or reader, there are many ways to describe killing, whether they be euphemism or blunt verbs. As a Detective Conan fan whose debut internet work was a fantasy/mystery, of course I know this fact.
That one panty shot really annoyed me.
The CGI candle holder didn’t quite do it for me, but yep. I’m sold on this show otherwise.
Do note the bird in the rubble’s midst. That’s important.
The manga started by introducing a character called Navi, who hasn’t shown up at this point in time. Let’s see whether Inoshishi is going to instigate Navi as the one who blew the floor down.
…nope, it’s Usagi. Navi hasn’t shown up at all yet, but maybe he’s a manga-original character?
Aishu and Inochigoi are her guns. According to manga ch. 1 on the Shonen Jump website, they mean “lost love” and “no mercy”.
…seriously, is it Inonoshishi or just Inoshishi? I’m pretty sure the exact word for boar is the latter. By the by, the names for each warrior are written in kanji different to their representative animals. Trying to translate Inoshishi’s literally would give you something like “strangely capable meat”, so you definitely have to be well-versed in Japanese wordplay to translate this.
This is definitely topping the debuts of the fall season right now.
Reflection 11
I get what you’re saying Wraith, but there’s only so much monologuing that works for me, y’know? Juuni Taisen was able to suit me just fine but…I think you went over my Monologuing Limit.
Oh great. First the bad guys have Stan Lee, now they have Daft Punk (one of them)! Kind of sort of, but you get my drift.
I think there were some new shots in the OP….? There was a 9 alongside the letters (for the magical girls)…
Is this snow? Or the desert? Update: There’s my answer. The artstyle makes it ambiguous though.
Wait, so is Eleanor an Allen too?
If I were to pull out my Dictionary of Cliches, I would say X-On says, “Defeating Wraith won’t bring your crew back.”
Holy Apprentice, Batman! I just saw Donald Trump in my anime!
Well, okay. From what I gather of this monologue, Wraith is just doing what he was trying to do for 9 weeks of this anime, but on a larger scale. Can we please just get to the magical girls?
This show can’t pull off sunsets…it really can’t.
“How did it come to this?” – That’s what I ask of this entire anime…
How does X-On fly???
Ugh, there are still no magical girls 11 episodes in…why, Stan Lee, why???
Urahara 1
I’m here to either give it a good evaluation or a bad one. There is no in-between on it.
First impression: It’s like someone barfed Tamagotchis and pastels on to some Lolita’s (fashion style) inspiration board!
Second impression: I don’t get it. That’s a bad sign, y’know, considering Tamagotchi is one of those lowkey definers of the anime boom that wasn’t anime itself…
It’s like someone created a Lolita (fashion style) Flip Flappers. There, I found a better description for this show.
What does Sudo have horns for?
Oh great, another one. This time, it’s cat ears. Do cat ears make her related to the cat Rito was with earlier?
The transitions and cuts in this show are disorienting. I don’t think the director knows what it means to take in the scenery, since this seems to be a show where freneticism doesn’t always work in its favour. Kekkai Sensen on the other hand…
What was the black cat in the corner for?
The thing Mari said about clothes is playing on my mind. As much as I like to imagine about fancy clothes for magical girls and big events like masquerades in my stories, I’m actually not a person who believes clothing is magical in the way these three believe.
Karl Lagerfeld. The name rang a bell, but I wasn’t sure until I checked him up.
Urahara means “the back streets of Harajuku”. I forgot to mention that earlier…
Kotoko irks me a little, so if I ever drop this show, it’ll be a testament to how bad she is. Why? She’s such an obsessive fangirl who jiggles and wriggles in ways that, while they’re good for attention-deficit eyes, just go against the more mellow aesthetic of the other two girls. I get they need contrast, but the gap between Rito/Mari and Kotoko is pretty big.
The movement of the girls is a bit too stiff to be believable and Kotoko would probably be better as a stoic girl…
When even your helicopters and tanks look like they’ve been barfed from a cupcake buffet, you know there’s something weird with your aesthetic.
Mari’s repetition of stuff reminds me of The Reflection, which is a bad comparison to get. Actually, The Reflection is slightly better than this, because at least Reflection is serious. I’ve already lived through the hell known as The Reflection for one season, so that’s another strike against Urahara.
The girls didn’t even ask their parents whether they were fine and just either assumed it or got way too many worried texts sent to their devices? That’s just plain weird.
That “divorce” anvil just crushed the sugar-sweet nature of this show, and that was a contrast even bigger than the one between Kotoko and Mari/Rito.
Why does Mari move her head so much? I mean, I get it’s probably for the sake of her acting implications mentioned earlier, but actresses don’t move their heads like that (right?), so she’s just being a stuck-up princess.
Apparently Park is a real place, according to the stuff I’ve read from CR…
So, it’s a talking shrimp. Which also functions as a scarf. My mind is bent. I thought I thought some weird things, but wonders never cease in this world…Also, Misa would stand out way too much in America, don’t ya think?
Oh, so it wasn’t a scarf. It was just an illusion. However, it’s still a talking tempura shrimp, which is bending my brain backwards…and why did it say its intro line five times???
I appreciate the amount of individuality this has shown, magical girl themes-wise, but it’s visually and dialogue-wise confusing to a certain degree…
So, where did the cat go? Did the Scoopers get it?
Aw, I want my magical girl sequence! I’ve been hankering for one ever since The Reflection didn’t deliver on its 9Nine magical girls…they’re still teasing it, as of episode 12! *bangs fists on table angrily*
When did Mari ever say she was not a fan of being “Mari the Witch”?
These action scenes have no sense of action, dammit! It’s just hair waving in the wind!
Too many sweets are bad for you, kiddies. Remember that.
I see a koala and a whale in that parfait. The Wildlife Fund is going to have a field trip with this one…Also, how the heck was this parfait formed? It was basically a flash of light. Magical girl shows do best when they’re visual spectacles.
Okay, that’s enough complaining from me. That’s dropped.
Sengoku Night Blood 1
I’m here for the voice actors! I checked out the game site, so I kind of know the characters’ names, but not very well…
I find it strange they chose to animate the girls in the back, rather than the front of the image…
It looks pretty, but I don’t think it’s handled its plot too well yet. After all, that beginning is kind cliched.
After living through Nobunaga no Shinobi, I feel like I kind of know these Sengoku guys better. After all, no-mouth Nobunaga has a counterpart here which actually has a mouth…and a nice ponytail. Then again, he does kinda look like some Twilight extra, which is why he’s not my favourite, LOL.
What’s up with this mauve-tinted scene? I guess it was a noise cue, but I can’t tell – I have the volume off.
Hideyoshi, aka that ol’ monkey from Nobunaga no Shinobi. LOL, he still looks like a monkey here.
I have a bad feeling they’re going to introduce a bunch of guys I should be familiar with, and I’ll be feeling like a rookie Touken Ranbu viewer all over again…*gulp*. I think these dog-eared boys have Saizou Kirigakure (a previous AniList icon of mine), though.
I’d assume Kenshin is the father of Kanetsugu…or Kanekatsu? I dunno.
Wait, it’s just some werewolf boys on horses monologuing for 30 seconds straight? The fight scene was good. Gimme more fight scenes.
For my own reference: Kanetsugu is the one with red-tipped hair. Kagekatsu has blue hair, they’re in the…uh, what camp? Hideyoshi’s, probably. Update: Oh no! I forgot, it’s Kenshin Uesugi so the Kane-bros should be in the Uesugi camp! My bad.
This werewolf with the tennis visor kinda reminds me of Akoya on first glance. Either that or Hachisuka Kotetsu from TR.
For my own reference: Nobuharu is the werewolf that looks kind of like Tonbokiri from TR, he’s in the Shingen camp.
Shingen got a shiny intro like Hideyoshi. It’s already obvious he’s faction leader…
For my own reference: Masatoyo is the Arima-like one in the Shingen camp.
Shingen’s nail polish is an interesting touch…
Hey! It’s my boy Saizou Kirigakure! Hi, Saizou!
Wait, what’s a yakuma?
Hoodie boy is Kamanosuke. He’s in the Sanada camp. Got it.
Ooh, nice castle. Plus here’s Oda. Also, some vampire that kind of looks like Kinshiro…?
Katsuie (in the Oda camp) is the one that looks like he came out of Diabolik Lovers. Okey-dokey.
Katsuie’s shota companion is kinda creepy when zoomed in like that.
Ah! I found the Ume I was waiting for (Masamune Date, the droopy-eared werewolf)! Thank you, seiyuu gods for giving me this blessing!
So this Atsushi (Kinugawa) boy is Mitsunari, scarred muscle man is Toshiie, the girly one is Hanbee (I love Hanbee from Nobunaga no Shinobi, y’know???) and the Ookurikara one is Kanbe. Okey-dokey, I just need a running count of all these boys.
“I’m sure he has a plan.”
Seriously, why does this girl (Yuzuki) not try to run away? Why does she only think about it??? If she really feared for her life, she would’ve actually run away.
Are there really no girls in this land aside from the Himemiko?
That transition (when Hideyoshi slashed the curtain) was so not fluid *grumbles*…
Didn’t your parents teach you about stranger danger, Yuzuki? Why do you let Hideyoshi pull you around so much?
Okkkkkkkkkkkkkayyyyyyyyyyyy. This is edging into awkward Twilight territory, right down to the sexual symbolism of vampires.
“Nobunaga-sama”?
…Dangit! Aramaki was Kagekatsu and Nishiyama was Masatoyo!
Okay, that’s dropped. I don’t think I need even anime!Twilight in my life. One Twilight is enough to dodge.
TsukiPro 1
Another idol/band show. Man, this season’s spoiling me for bishie choice.
These intro cards are a bit weird – even the Sengoku Night Blood ones seem more natural than this. Also, this show seems really bright and washed out for some reason.
SixGravity and Procellarum are idols from a series that was airing last year (TsukiUta). Unfortunately, the show was Funi-exclusive in the English speaking world…
Fluna and Sereas are SixGravity and Procellarum’s female counterparts.
The Budokan. I first learnt of it through ConRevo. (The Beatles played there!) Now, here it is again.
This song sequence…it’s fluid, but there’s some instinct that tells me this is probably motion-capture, CGI or both.
ProAni? I never got used to that abbreviation in the synopses for this show…
Haiduki is just another speling for Haizuki, although that’s because of different hiragana said roughly the same way…
The eyes are a bit unsettling and the CGI isn’t the most integrated, but it’s a good effort…
“…four new songs to perform.”
Hmph, one’s a uni student. He’s even a guy working on a thesis, which you don’t see often in media…
Ooh, these cherry blossom night scenes are pretty! The first person camera is slightly unsettling, though…
That ad was so not funny, it crossed right back into funny territory! I don’t think that’s ever happened before for anything for me…
*laughs quietly in corner* I thought Burny!! was bad as a song name…Crazy Baby Show just topped it.
Aw, dangit! I wanna see my Ume character in a fanservice scene too. Not drinking water like an ordinary person.
Aw, these positive emotions are nice. Good thinking, boys.
Wow, this Soara guy is really in the know. How did he know that, though???
“Dack Haneil’s”…really???
How does Tsubasa’s scarf do that???
LOL, I just found out one of the show’s sponsors is Docomo. Basically, it was a Minority Report or Truman Show kind of advertising…
Between the badly-animated long faces and my raised standards from The Reflection, I’m kind of on the fence about this. We’ll see whether any better contenders come and knock it out of the park later, I guess. There’s still lots of time in this season…
Update: After giving it a better think, I’m knocking it off the list. For some reason, the weekend is filled with shows so even though I could do with a non-weekend show, I realised I was questioning things a little too much this first ep, which is normally a bad sign.
Classicaloid 27
Yay! My magical composers are back!
Ah, it took one non-speaking montage to realise…it’s good to be back in the Otowa Mansion.
Oh! Wagner is such a smol-! I don’t think he’ll ever be my favourite simply because he’s a shota, but heck. I’ve heard that voice before…Update: It’s Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. He’s known for Kirito (SAO)…but I’ve only ever heard the dub of that…and, uh, Tohru Yukimura from Aoharu x Machinegun. But Tohru’s voice is deep and not like Natsuki Hanae at all (this does kinda sound like Hanae, doesn’t it?).
Himeka is the name of her mother???? That’s news!
I didn’t know the Japanese word for hippo until now. It seems to be kaba in katakana.
The keigo in question is arigatougozaimasu. I didn’t notice until a second playthrough because it translated well…
Soramame is apparently broad bean, while edamame and adzuki are also types of bean. I’m quite partial to edamame myself.
The text difference on Hidive are helping with differentiating who’s speaking and stuff. It’s really handy, even though ads keep appearing unexpectedly…
I almost choked from laughter right there, LOL. I knew Suwabe was cast as Dovo-chan, but actually hearing the hippo being voiced by Suwabe has to be heard to be believed!
Oh, I see. The out of Africa hypothesis.
“…put on a show like that…”
Wagner appears to be light green in these ending shots. Dovo-chan appears to be a light blue that is almost white.
Oh! New endcards! That probably means new Musik!
There’s a CGI hippo train going across the bottom, if you didn’t see it.
Oh, Tchaiko even! Klasky:Clasky’s coming back, people!
Did you notice the background seem to be of the composer’s place of origin, with the exception of more generic modern ones like Chopin, sitting on the stairs? Tchaiko’s one was definitely Russia, because of the swirly-top building (Kremlin).
