Do you think Randy and Cherry were ever close, like best friends (besides Marcia) when he was sober?
Do you think that Randy woke up the day after Bob died, hungover and grieving and regretful?
Do you think that Randy went over to Cherry's house in yesterday's clothes, teartracks down his face, hands trembling as he tried to come to terms with what had happened?
Do you think that Cherry opened the door, took one look at him and knew something was wrong?
Do you think that Randy broke down the moment he went inside because he was my buddy, Cherry and it wasn’t meant to go that far?
Do you think that they both blamed each other at first because Bob never would have gone alone, Randy, and why'd you have to talk to a kid greaser, Cherry, when you know how he gets when he's drunk?
Do you think that they spent the next few days just coping together, trying to get through it, trying to find out what they're supposed to do with their life?
Do you think that Cherry told him about how she hates fights because they're pointless, not for the first time, of course, but it's the first time it's actually hit him?
Do you think that Cherry told him about Ponyboy, and about how he got it even though he was just fourteen and about how they're people too and he was just a kid?
Do you think that as Randy's dread at the rumble grew and grew and Cherry told him not to fight, he knew that he needed to talk to someone?
Do you think that when Randy heard that Ponyboy was a hero it made him hate himself just a bit more because not only was he a person too, but he was a better person than Randy, and Randy had jumped him and his friends time and time again?
Do you think that when Randy heard that Johnny might die, just like Bob, and that Ponyboy was back in town, he knew just who to talk to?
Do you think that as Randy said I'm not going to show at the rumble tonight everything clicked into place and he realised he really wasn't going to show?
Do you ever think about Randy?

I'm suuper bored right neow so here's some stuff about the diner au
-the diner is called juniors
WHICH WAS NOT MY IDEA IT WAS @/coca-coeli 's AND I THINK ITS SOO cute so I think I'm gonna stick with it if that's ok
-the shepards are in this au but they don't work in the diner or in the restaurant they work at bucks which will EITHER be pretty much the same as in the book OR one of those sea themed fish and chip places LITERALLY just because I think it would be funny if they worked there (I have more on this but I'm gonna skip to the next point)
-when I say it's a modern au I mean anytime between 2000s to now becausee idk what I wanna go with
-I mightve already said this one but Paul is the manager of the soc restaurant
-Dallas only works there because darry is making him or he's not allowed in the house but he literally cannot be trusted to cook and darry is NOT letting him near customers so he's a dish washer
-Sodapop is SO good with customers like its crazy
-Steve is the head cook and he takes it SOO seriously he runs that kitchen like the navy do NOT talk to him during rush hour he's a freak
-Two bit is USUALLY a server but he frequently gets banned from it because he likes to fuck w the customers so he spends half his time in the kitchen (he's actually secretly really good at making food)
-Bob SHOULD also be banned from even being within a 100ft distance of customers but for some reason he's not (people in his section are abt to experience hell on earth)
-actually there is a reason in this au him and Paul are cousins (no reason for this I just felt like it ngl) so he gets away w more (nepo baby)
-the restaurant doesn't really have a name,,,I was going to just go with Holdens or something but idk give me suggestions if u want
-scout is also here!!! because I love her and she's underrated.shes a line cook
-cherry is also a server for now idk I might change it and she's actually good at her job when she's not gossiping in the corner w marcia (I kinda just wanted to mention cherry I love her soo much)
-the two restaurants are located DIRECTLY across from eachother (literallythe chum bucket and krusty krab)
Ok I'm out of things to say for now I think also I haven't worked in a restaurant like ever so if any of this is like factually incorrect just remember all my info comes from bistro huddy

The Outsiders and Hadestown is the Same Story and I WILL Elaborate Thank You Very Much
Point ONE: Ponyboy and Johnny are Orpheus and Eurydice.
Johnny/Eurydice: Comes from a background of mistreatment and abuse, sees Ponyboy/Orpheus as a means of salvation/escape, tragic death:(
Ponyboy/Orpheus: Dreaming of a better world, trying to save Johnny/Eurydice (failing), AuDHD.
Also "Far Away From Tulsa" and "All I've Ever Known" are THE SAME SONG
Point TWO: Trains!
Trains are a metaphor for death/change/transition in both shows. Both shows feature characters taking a train in what they assume is their only shot at survival or "survival."
Trains in both shows are also tied to---
Point THREE: Privilege and Wealth.
Both shows are heavily rooted in a criticism of the class system, though The Outsiders is more focused on social effects while Hadestown is primarily concerned with capitalism and worker exploitation.
Cherry is Persephone. I don't even need to elaborate, you Get it.
Point FOUR: Narrative Structure
Both shows feature a narrator, as well as a component of the narrator stepping outside of the narrative to reflect on their personal or emotional involvement in it.
Both shows also have a component of circular storytelling: Hadestown does this very explicitly; it's in the text, it's in the message, and it's shown on stage. The Outsiders uses the same narrative device as its source: That Ponyboy is writing the story of what happened to him: He starts and ends in the same place, and the music of the finale is a reprise of the opening number.
Part FIVE: They Both Won Best Musical.
And good for them!!

Man I sure wish women were invented before the 1960s maybe then we could have had more than one female character in the Outsiders (who is commonly used as a scapegoat for people to push all their internalized misogyny onto)

Consider this my formal apology to Cherry and an addition to my earlier post on the message of the novel. Upon my first reading I misinterpreted her in a way similar to how Pony does.
-
“It’s not the money it’s feeling— you don’t feel anything and we feel too violently.”
Her point was that money does not automatically make life automatically easy or good and that Soc’s face hard times too. She was not trying to put her struggles on the same level as Ponyboys, at least I really hope not, though it does come off a little insensitive considering the personal and extreme stuff he shared with her. However, I’d argue that only illustrates her world in how it’s hard to genuinely talk to someone and relate without sounding superficial or dismissive. Cherry so clearly wants to though, sharing her struggles right back, how she lives artificially. Living but not really living, friends aren’t really friends in the way pony has them…the one thing a greaser possesses over a soc is true friends and loyalty not just followers.
By the time Pony sees her again he’s been through a lot, he’s starting to forget sunsets and that things are rough all over. He’s starting to harden even before his head injury, even before his friends die. He sees her as a Soc first rather than herself, he’s cautious and angry. When rich people come to their side of town looking to help it’s either to feel better about themselves or appear better— all manufactured charity. Poor people are proud people and Pony says it himself that he’d rather be hated than given charity. It’s lost to him that Cherry is an individual and that she meant it when she said she wanted the fighting to end, blocking out how his friends are all thankful for her help.
Is she a little bit out of touch when comparing struggles? Yes, that’s kind of the point. That night at the drive in they were only just beginning to tear down boundaries. She’s not going to be perfectly class conscious because a 14 year old trauma dumped to her. It’s about reaching across the isle and recognizing the other person as a human being too, turning things into a “who has it worse” battle looses the point. You really shouldn’t take Pony’s warped perspective of meeting her again at face value.
At the end of the day she’s a teenage girl whose boyfriend was killed to a fight she never believed in. She doesn’t want to see anyone else lost to it, helping in the small way she can. She’s stuck to her lot in life just as much as anyone else yet she gets blamed for it.
