SARAH MCCAMMON, HOST:
Stephanie Foo grew up in California, the only child of immigrants who abused her for years and then abandoned her as a teenager. As an adult, Foo seemed to thrive. She graduated from college, landed a job at "This American Life," became an award-winning radio producer, was dating a lovely man, but she was also struggling. Years of trauma and violent abuse as a child had left her with a diagnosis - complex PTSD, a little-studied condition that Foo was determined to understand. The result is her new memoir, "What My Bones Know." And Stephanie Foo joins us now from New York City. Hello.
STEPHANIE FOO: Hi. Thank you so much for having me today.
MCCAMMON: I want to start with your diagnosis, because listeners have likely heard of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. But how is complex PTSD different?
FOO: Right. So you can get traditional PTSD from a single traumatic event, like, say, you were hit by a car. Complex PTSD is kind of like if you were hit by that car every week for years. It manifested in my life as anxiety, as depression. The difference between PTSD and complex PTSD is that complex PTSD sort of has the potential to have a constant fear sort of churning underneath the surface. And I think it always had me on edge, hypervigilant, made it really hard for me to trust people - and to sort of bury that with intense workaholism, drinking a lot, partying a lot, that kind of thing.
MCCAMMON: Something you come back to a lot in your memoir is the idea of inherited trauma. So I'm wondering if you could talk about your parents' histories a little bit and your family's immigration from Malaysia and how that shaped your childhood.
FOO: I think my parents being recent immigrants gave them fewer resources in some ways. We didn't have access to a lot of family. And my parents, I think, were pretty alone and isolated in their ability to take care of me and in terms of having other people be able to take care of them and the mental illnesses that they suffered from. My parents came from lines of - where their parents had suffered immense traumas. My grandparents and my great-grandparents suffered through World War II. They suffered from the Malayan Emergency. My grandfather was imprisoned by the British during the Malayan Emergency for five years. And when he got out of prison, he lost all of his teeth somehow, and he never talked about it. You know, there were real consequences to that culturally, in terms of the way that they were raised, but even more so in their literal DNA.
MCCAMMON: Yeah, that was one thing that really struck me. I mean, you did some research into how trauma literally can change our genes and how that gets passed down. I mean, what did you learn about how that works?
FOO: Well, there's a couple of really fascinating studies about how our genes can change by what we endure. There's one really famous one where scientists exposed rats to the smell of cherry blossoms and then shocked them. And so these rats came to associate the smell of cherry blossoms with shocks, with fear. And their offspring and then their offspring would have panic responses every time they smelled cherry blossoms, even if they had never been shocked before. So what happens is the epigenome is sort of a layer on top of our DNA that kind of decides what genes get turned off and on. And experiencing trauma can change that epigenome.
MCCAMMON: I want to talk about your therapist, Dr. Ham. He is basically my favorite person in this book.
FOO: (Laughter).
MCCAMMON: How did you find him? And, in short, how did he help you?
FOO: I found him in a very radio producer-y (ph) way. I found him through listening to a podcast (laughter). He was talking about complex PTSD as, like, being the Incredible Hulk, right? Because the Incredible Hulk was actually abused as a kid. His father was an alcoholic, and now he had a hard time controlling his emotions when he was angry. He would sort of literally not be able to speak well, and he would just focus on surviving. And that is exactly what having complex PTSD is like. But the Hulk is not a villain. The Hulk is a hero. And so I needed to know more about that. And so I went to interview him, and he started interviewing me in the middle of me interviewing him. And eventually, he asked me if he could treat me, and I agreed.
MCCAMMON: And you approached this in a very radio producer-y way.
FOO: Yeah.
MCCAMMON: I mean, you have all of your tapes of your sessions with him, right?
FOO: Correct. And after we got done with a session, I would immediately go to the cafe downstairs, and I would upload all of my audio and transcribe it and put it in a Google doc, as you are very familiar with.
MCCAMMON: All too familiar.
FOO: And then we would edit it. And it was like we were editing my trauma out of the scripts. There was a point at which - after our actual first session, I saw, like, a whole page of me ranting about, like, my husband's job, which seemed completely out of left field. And I commented, what is going on here? Where am I? And he said, ah, you are dissociated because you are triggered. And I was like, what triggered me? Why am I dissociated? And I scrolled up. And right before that rant, I had talked about my mom holding a knife to my neck. And I turned off my emotions and my brain to access that, and I needed to disappear in some way to say that. And I got lost on the way. And so that was so helpful for me to just understand, with true journalistic objectivity, I guess, what was happening in my brain.
MCCAMMON: I'm really curious, though. You know, in writing this book and even now in talking about it, you have to go revisit a lot of those traumas again. You're talking about them right now. You're thinking about them. You're writing about them. I mean, how was that? How is that?
FOO: Yeah, dissociation, baby. That's what allows me to be talking to you and saying these things to you right now. And I think the other thing, too, is that I really did prioritize healing before I focused on writing. So writing itself was not the catharsis. Healing was the catharsis. It made me feel like I just wanted to share what I had learned. It was coming from a place of hope, and I wanted to write something that would help other people feel hopeful to. And I don't think that you ever totally heal from complex PTSD. It's sort of something that you carry with you all the time. But I feel like if the burden, the weight of complex PTSD, is like a pack on my back, then the process of healing has made me stronger. Does that mean, of course, that sometimes the pack gets really, really heavy and I need to sit down and take a break and cry a little bit and figure some new stuff out? Of course. Of course. That's what life is. But now I feel like I can hold the sadness and the anger and the joy all together.
MCCAMMON: Stephanie Foo's memoir is "What My Bones Know." Thank you so much for talking with us.
FOO: Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate this opportunity to shed some light on complex PTSD.

Sakurasou
Tumblr media
Sakurasou flower is similar to the Sakura because of the bloom resembles cherry blossoms. Symbolic, it’s the meaning of “desire” and “long lasting love”.
Spoilers below. Sad mini read.
Nanami x reader
Nanami wasn’t the type to do overly romantic things. However, one thing he did and always made sure to do is bring you at least one Sakurasou. It was his way of saying “I love you” and it was something you never took for grant it.
His life as a sorcerer was difficult. One that you both agreed he should stop but it’s a life that one can never fully get out of. When he returned and took Yuji in to help Gojo, you knew that this return would be different.
The arc Shibuya will forever be known as the arc that your heart died.
You and Nanami planned a future together. You both dreamed of living a life in Malaysia. He would build a house on a secluded beach and together you both would read endless books. Life would be simple. No pain. No sorcery. Just two people in love.
Shibuya took that away.
As you drive down the road on this beautiful spring day, you decide to take a left instead of a right. The left was a dead end but Nanami told you that the dead end was worth it. You personally hated wasting time while driving. But today. Today was different.
As you get closer to the end of the road you see a field…and the closer you get to the field, your eyes become watery.
A field of Sakurasou.
Tumblr media
You park your car. Tears are hitting your cheeks and sliding down to your hands that are grasping the steering wheel. You look up , the field is beautiful shades of purple and pink. You inhale in and exhale out. You turn the key off, but keep it in the ignition, unbuckle your seat belt and open the car door.
It felt like walking for the first time. Legs are heavy, tears falling onto your shirt. The closer you get to the field the more your heart hurts.
The smell, breeze, sunshining and the colors make you pause at the beginning of the field. “He would’ve walked in a little ways…” you say to the openness. So you clutch your heart and walk in.
The breeze blowing the Sakurasous in one direction allowing the scent to fill your nose. Familiar scent is also followed with it. You see a spot that looks as though someone else has been here. You sit and look around you. Sakura trees are on the outskirts of the field. The field itself is full of life with bugs buzzing, birds flying and a butterfly landing on the Sakurasou blossom closest to you.
Tumblr media
The butterfly had beautiful blue and black wings. Blue like the color of the shirt he wore to Shibuya. You reach down slowly and put your finger to the flower. The butterfly acknowledges and moves to your finger. You bring your finger close to heart but slowly to not startle the butterfly. To your surprise it stays.
“What sign are you are trying to tell me?” you ask the butterfly nicely.
A memory appears:
“Promise me that you will go to Malaysia. And you will keep Sakurasous in the house.” Nanami looked at you, his eyes heavy. “I promise….” you were met with a kiss. One that lingered.
You look at the butterfly and bend down, just a enough, to kiss the top of it’s wing. “I made a promise. I think it’s time I fullfill it.” you say as the butterfly flies away.
You pick a couple of Sakurasous and head back to the house. As you enter the house you say, “It’s time Nanami. It’s time to live a peaceful live we always wanted.” Holding the Sakurasous close to your heart you hear the smallest and lightest whisper. Almost impossible to hear, “I love you, y/n” in his voice.

Everything I did at Pavilion Damansara Heights.
Since it was the third day of CNY last week, I decided to go for an exploration around the soft opening of the mall. When we first arrived at the MRT station, I saw an advertisement promoting new restaurants that caught my attention to try them one day after its grand opening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After exiting the car park, we used the escalator to go up to the first floor, I saw a giant red teddy bear holding a pink heart that said LOVE for Valentine's Day. Before stopping for food, I noticed an important Chinese Calligraphy banner quoted "The illusion of high humming is suitable for the eyes" which defines my mind for important things in the future as I work hard for this semester.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For lunch, I decided to eat at OMI Japanese Wagyu restaurant for an early Valentine's Day celebration since this holiday was coming up on Wednesday. I ordered the Grapefruit Yuzu soda which was sweet and sour with the fruity blueberries on top.
I tried their Signature Wagyu Udon which came with an excellent onsen egg and Black Pepper dressing. The sauce was delicious and tasty giving it a peppery kick. As for the wagyu, it was cooked to perfection as I was dipping the meat in the beef broth.
As for my father, he ordered the torched tofu rice bowl with a fish roe topped with onsen egg, edamame, red pickled radish, spring onions, Furikake (rice seasoning), and a black truffle sauce that was super savory and nutty that helped balance the flavor to the tofu. After taking a bite, the tofu was bouncy which was accompanied by the delicious ingredients that were added to the meal.
A side dish that we also tried was the Fried Okayama Oysters with their homemade sauce. The deep-fried oyster was completely coated with panko which gave it a good taste which topped it all up with a healthy piece of lettuce, white carrots, and purple cabbage strips.
Overall, I would recommend this Japanese restaurant because it has a peaceful atmosphere, fancy light decorations, and authentic wagyu for everyone to enjoy if they are interested in trying it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After lunch, I went to the exhibition display filled with CNY decorations. I saw a Cherry Blossom memo tree filled with people's wishes in their memos. After seeing the tree filled with notes, I decided to write a wish that quoted, "May Everyone have a good CNY for this year!"
Once I wrote my wish on a small piece of paper, I hung it up on the artificial tree branch, so that people would prosper and live a longer life. My favorite part of this CNY expo was photographing a picture of the pretty, giant flower with a white pearl on top that reminded me of the National Flower of Malaysia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before heading back to the train station from Bandar Utama, we stopped at the PAUL French Cafe to get the Orange Brioche for the Lunar New Year festival. Unfortunately, the waiter at this establishment told me that the pastry was sold out due to the Valentine's Day celebration happening this Wednesday.
Luckily, I ordered a heart-shaped Brioche with a cup of PAUL's Hot Chocolate and a mini-Madeleine sponge cake. The Brioche was fluffy and soft, especially the chocolate icing that gave a sweet taste which made me fascinated about visiting Candyland.
I tried their famous Hot Chocolate, and it was chocolatey and sweet which gave it a rich cacao taste with the added sugar inside the drink. I also love the cozy interior that reminded me of an aesthetic French cafe in Paris which I planned to go there one day during the summer break.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although some of the stores were not fully opened yet. I'm very grateful that I tried new foods and took a lot of photos in the exhibition that excited me the most during this trip. Hopefully, in a few months, the management team will construct the biggest movie theater for everyone to watch.

The Eastern & Oriental Express is heading back to the tracks.Services for the train service are restarting in February 2024, according to an announcement today by the train's owner, the luxury travel company Belmond.  The passenger train, long considered one of the most luxurious rail rides in Asia, started operating in 1993, connecting Bangkok to Singapore. It stopped running in 2020 at the outset of the pandemic. The Eastern & Oriental is returning with 15 carriages, including two restaurant cars, one piano bar car and an open-air observation car. It's eight sleeping cars will have three cabin categories — Pullman, State and Presidential — all with air-conditioning and private bathrooms.Bookings for 2024 opened today with rates from $3,410 per person for a three-day journey, which includes all meals, beverages and scheduled activities.
Two journeys
The new service is set to run two seasonal journeys, both departing from Singapore and traveling to Malaysia. The "Essence of Malaysia," will run from November to February. It will pass through Kuala Lumpur, with views of the Petronas Twin Towers — once the tallest buildings in the world — before departing for the popular islands of Langkawi and Penang along western Malaysia. The Eastern & Oriental Express is outfitted with ornate silks, cherry wood paneling and carpets made with Malay batik.Source: BelmondGuests can snorkel in Palau Payar Marine Park, take a Peranakan cooking class and experience the "UNESCO World Heritage sites, lively street art, and a thrilling food scene" in the city of George Town, according to the announcement. From March to October, passengers can embark on the train's "Wild Malaysia" route. It stops along the eastern side of Malaysia to explore the rainforests of the Taman Negara National Park, before venturing to Penang.
Trains of similar names
The Eastern & Oriental Express has been colloquially referred to as Southeast Asia's "Orient Express," harkening to the historic train that linked Paris and Istanbul beginning in the late 19th century.Costs start at $3,410 per person for a three-day journey on the Eastern & Oriental Express.Source: BelmondHowever, other train services use the moniker, including one run by Belmond. That train — the "Venice Simplon-Orient-Express" — operates under a one-off licensing deal and has been running since 1982. The French hospitality company Accor has broader rights to the name through a deal inked with the French rail company SNCF in 2017. The company is set to launch a luxury passenger service in 2025, according to its website.Accor is also preparing to launch six "Orient Express La Dolce Vita" trains in 2024 that will run across Italy, with trips to Paris, Istanbul and Split, Croatia, according to its website.Pre-booking for that service opened in December 2022, with prices starting from 2,000 euros ($2,192) per person per night, according to Accor.— Lucy Handley contributed to this report.   Source link Read the full article

Just let a criticism going on with Tony s of him and it's everywhere and they're going after him and they're figuring out it's all true and it's going to be a big break for our son and daughter a huge break
Phew they both say they'll be nice you need some bad blood you can sleep on better and the cherry doesn't fall out of all sorts of things this idiot Tony is doing.
Weather report though be more like who are laid off for causing trouble everywhere and they're dispatching sheriff about 10,000 thus far and they'll dispatch the rest shortly and they'll probably call in the paramilitary police. It's a huge crowd and clones are amongst them and getting nabbed.
There's a lot of other things happening it's a huge day today is massive and it is because it's silly of the reduction in the morlock number reaching 7% now and defining Stanley they're going to leave for empty holes for power to grab lasers and they are going after land bases now that Mac was. And they are also trying for the ships above them on Australia New Zealand and elsewhere they're trying to take shifts in order to infiltrate The shield array it is quite big and effective it is probably twice the size of Australia extending into the South Pacific all the way to Malaysia at this time it reach the mainland of India shortly and the other array is twice the size of the full island chain of New Zealand and in about half a day it will reach South Africa and it would start extending up the continent and they will concentrate on the continent and surrounding Waters out to around 300 miles and it is growing because they're building ships it is a massive massive array at this time and we were warned it will burn off more ozone than we thought and we are producing vehicles and we're producing trucks and power generation is up and we are making ozone and we're sending it up there and we made towers and they are for protection as well we will be keeping up with the requirements yes and adding to it due to the poles being completed already. Right now we have about 70% of the world's Auto production and we are cranking them out and our son and daughters and The conjuring and me of course and Freya we have this new car company in a several others knowada Ariana's wife and Poseidon's wife goddess wife and they have an interest too and it is the lead automobile and truck manufacturer on Earth right now it's number one in sales for this year 2023 it's twice the sales of Ford and Chevy combined. And that's the new models too they're presales they included and it's going on gangbusters and we should fill all the orders by Monday that have been placed up today but tomorrow we're having a show and it's going to go through the roof. The electric motorcycle company move to Canada and since they did sales are completely out of control we have probably 2/3 of the motorcycle sales on Earth coming from that company all electric and they saw that it's a company that makes a real life cycle and astonished and chills and hairs stood still up on people's necks and people still gawking it was amazing even our son feels the energy from such a creation even though most of it is and he says he got the idea from a toy of his grandfather and grandmother and his father and mother Giuseppe from Italy and it's true the first one he made he sent over to him he said it's the first one and I can't have him they have a whole bunch of them the first run he says you have to protect them and I think you should use them and you said no way and that's how it is. But wow this is amazing this company that's producing so many vehicles it's ridiculous. They also have other news they're going after minority morlock too with gusto and especially people who are rude obnoxious and they're bringing them in and they're putting them in prison and they don't try very hard and they're very rude most often and it cost them. And their little scams are always found out but really they're pissed off at them concerned the way and they're small and it's frustrating them and it's causing a lot of damage it counted 450,000 Alden from Southwest Florida this morning and that's why they're here trying stupid crap and they're making it worse they've got about a million more and it's getting worse.

What happened to Estenecks career? I only just started rewatching F1 this year
Omg it was a glorious disaster and he 100% brought it upon himself with his attitude.
Settle down because this will be a long one lmao (putting it under the cut)
So Esteneck started out at Haas with Grosjean, and his ‘comeback’ season started off great when he collided with Alonso at the AustralianGP (The car almost yeeted Fernando but that’s another story). This was 2016.
By Spain, he was already criticizing the team since the car had some mechanical issues that needed to be addressed - this was after the team defended him after he nailed Hulkie at the Russian GP on the first lap of the race lmao (100% his fault)
We gotta point out that this was Haas’ first year in the sport - there were obviously going to be issues lol but whatever
In Baku, he made contact with Hulkie at the start of the race again.
By this time, Romain had scored points 3 times, whereas Esteban was at a big fat zero. So after the EuropeanGP he released an interview saying that he had been sick for a virus for a months and that’s why he was not performing up to expectations.
After the BritishGP, he was out of the points again. At this point, Gunther was interviewed and confirmed that Romain had a deal with Haas for the following season but that no decision was made about Esteban. Obviously this nerd goes out there, screaming from the rooftops, “OH YEAH, ME AND MY MEXICAN $$$ WILL BE ON THE GRID IN 2017″
HungarianGP comes around and this amazing specimen of a driver decided it would be a good idea to impede Lewis Hamilton and not allow the Brit to lap him (Lewis was fighting Nico for the win and points in the championship). When Lewis finally passed him, he extended the international gesture of displeasure towards Esteban. Then went on a rampage after with the media, while Esteban was all like “I didn’t see him or the 3 blue flags that were waved at me”. Cherry on top was the quote “ Not a very respectful move from him, I have to say. I've spoken to him in the past - he's the world champion but he shouldn't do these kinds of things, he should respect all of the competitors."You never know, maybe in the future I will be fighting [for] the championship with him so he has to respect that."
FIA and Lewis called bullshit on all that, and he was penalized for ignoring the blue flags. Great banter. (Note - during all this, that saint of a man Steiner was defending Gutierrez)
You would think that at this point, Esteban would have taken a good hard look at his driving but his ego is as big as his neck, so that didn’t happen.
GermanGP comes around and Teflon Daniel lost it on Gutierrez and went on a rant about how the Esteban ignored the blue flags AGAIN and almost cost him the race. Obviously Esteban was like “who, meeee? :(”
At this point Steiner again said “Yeah, driver :) decision :) in :) Monza :)”
In Spa, Gutierrez decided that he would drive the car like he was on a leisurely stroll in the MIDDLE OF RAIDILLON while Pascal Wehrlein was coming up behind him on a flying lap (this happened in qualifying). Poor Pascal had to use his Manor car as a lawnmore to avoid an accident. The result was Esteban being penalized with drop of 5 spots from his quali result (quite harsh, but justified) - Gutierrez obviously wasn't happy,
Around comes the ItalianGP - no announcement from Haas LMAO
Singapore comes around, with a Haas update (no announcement yet) and Gutierrez ONCE AGAIN decided that blue flags are for plebeians and decided to ignore them when Nico showed up behind him. Toto Wolff went on a lovely tirade about the Mexican afterwards - good times.
By the end of September, Grosjean had scored 28 points for Haas, Esteban still at 0. Steiner was interviewed in Malaysia saying that they were in no rush to confirm drivers, meanwhile Esteban was giving out interviews saying he had ‘plenty of options’ - LMAO
Malaysia was also a double retirement for Haas - technical issues for both cars.
In Japan, he had a little scrap with Carlos and he finished behind the Manors if I recall correctly - yikes.
At the UsaGP things are starting to crash - Steiner (who had ALWAYS defended Gutierrez up to that point) gave out an interview saying that ‘yes, Haas had issues - but the team was expecting waaaay more from Esteban’.
At the Mexican GP, Esteneck received a hero’s welcome, tanked the race and gave a bitchy interview about Haas and their delay in making a decision.
When asked about why it was taking so long, his response was:
"It's a question I often ask myself. My performance has been demonstrated in a very clear way within the team.
"I know very well that there have been many external factors that haven't allowed me to have the same opportunities as Romain. I don't see a reason why they need to wait. Maybe there's an external factor that is influencing this."
Pure, golden comedy.
Obviously when asked, Steiner’s reply was “Oh we’ll let him know soon :)”
As soon as the MexicanGP was over, Haas announced they took on Kevin to replace Esteban (*insert ooooh snap* gif here). The best was that at the next GP (Brazil) Esteban released an interview saying “It wasn’t fair!” *crying baby GIF*. Then he had a retirement and blew up at the team in the garage, which Steiner considering coming to blows with Gutierrez and his neck (please refer to video)
His lovely attitude and amazing performance ensured that nobody would consider him as a driver in 2017 (despite the $$$$ he had) after the Brazilian blowout - hence the final nail in the coffin comment.
Besides all that, there was a rumor going around that he was not very nice to his engineers/mechanics behind the scenes, and he staged a ‘meeting’ with them to talk about how crappy they had been as a team and how were they going to fix the car so it didn’t break down on him again - THE BALLS ON THIS GUY LMAO
So that’s the story of how Gutierrez fucked up in ‘comeback’ in F1.
Fyi that year Grosjean scored 29 points - Esteban? A zero so big, it was directly proportional to his neck

ztl’s favorite OS scene...
这次写给《原生之罪》我最喜欢的一场戏… | this time, let's write about my favorite scene from "original sin...."
a long post zhai tianlin wrote on his weibo talking about his favorite scene from original sin: the scene in episode 21 where chi zhen + suofei | sophie get drunk together and chi zhen cries, talking about his loneliness + desire for trust/vulnerability... the scene that zhai tianlin wrote himself and then pitched to director yip wai-man (’:
honestly, with all that’s happened recently, i think that this is even more emotionally moving :/
— original post via zhai tianlin’s weibo, here
read the full post + translation below the cut!
结束一天的工作后一个人回到家,看到了原罪里我最喜欢的这场戏。想说说这场戏…  the day after we finished work, i went home alone and watched my favorite scene from original sin. i want to talk about this scene...
i was the one who wrote this scene: i remember that day, i was in the makeup car, and i dictated it to cherry ngan, who picked up a pen and helped me record it. thank you for believing in me; thank you for also getting drunk with me to finish this scene together. you have an amazing character and talent; i was honored to be able to work with you.
感谢叶伟民导演同意我加上这场戏并且呈现出来,感恩你的信任。 thank you to director [raymond] yip wai-man who agreed to add this scene and even aired it — thank you for your faith in me.
这场戏要说的话似乎成为了一种宿命。很可惜池震不那么走运,因为决定由谁来演他不是他能够选择的,而我又自私的认定他是逃不过这宿命的… what had to be said in this scene became a sort of prophecy. it's unfortunate that chi zhen wasn't lucky enough to be able to choose the actor who portrayed him — and that i made the selfish decision of deciding that he wouldn't be able to outrun his fate...
演戏对于我最大的魅力就在于我总可以躲在角色的身后,通过它来表达自己在生活中不敢表达的一些东西。 the biggest appeal of acting for me is that i can hide behind a character, and through them, convey the things that i'm not brave enough to express in my own life.
在马来西亚拍摄期间我曾经跟叶导聊过关于池震身上的孤独感,然后我说其实我有时也能感受到同样的感觉。 他认真的用港普回答我说:呐!天临!我觉得有时候你好保持这种孤独感wo,这样出来的东西确实会不一样的wo! when we were filming in malaysia, i once discussed the loneliness that chi zhen carries with director yip, and then i said that honestly, sometimes i felt the same way. he earnestly replied to me in hong kong style, "ah! tianlin! i think that sometimes you should hang on to that feeling wo! this way, what you express will really be different as well wo!*  [ * wo is a canto ending particle that i'm struggling to define rn .. it's to emphasize something that like... the other person doesn't believe? kind of like an emphasis of soft disagreement or soft admonishment... like an implication of "actually..." or “really!”]
我笑着回答:这种事情没得选择的… i laughed as i replied, "i dont really have a choice in this kind of thing..."
原来这个事情是这样的! tonight as i lay in bed, turning on my lamp, listening to the sole sound of the humidifier's whirring in my room, i've also entered a so-called "eureka moment." i always talk about these moments of enlightenment... right, i always bring up... maybe when i drive? when i'm watching the taillights in front of me? when i'm listening to the whir of the humidifier? right, these moments of enlightenment quietly sneak up on you, and then we suddenly sigh with emotion: "oh — so things were like this, after all!"
为什么池震逃不过这宿命呢?他拼命的争取自己想要的,逃避不想发生的,又无奈必须面对自己不想面对的事,可是他终究要面对的,可他不信这宿命,他要试一试,他要追求他想要的,想要冲出这一切,哪怕只有一次,他也要去试试! so why couldn't chi zhen escape this fate? he fought to get what he wanted as if his life depended on it, running from what he didn't want to happen  — but he had no choice but to face what he didn't want to face. but in the end, as he confronted it, he still didn't believe in this predestined fate — he had to try, to chase after what he wanted, to escape from all of it, even if just once, he still had to try!
结果大家都看到了… then, you all saw how that ended...
我们真的可以选择吗? i'm sure that all of you, including my respected screenwriter jiang feng lao-shi,* will definitely be astonished at the ending, and be caught off guard. i was the same, but some things, in reality, really do just happen that fast! one second, it'll be one way, and the next, it'll change completely... but it's just the way it is, so do we face it or not? do we really have a choice?   [ * original sin’s original screenplay ended at chi zhen shooting director dong in the scrapyard, iirc ]
于是池震说:人最怕的就是没得选择… that's why chi zhen says: "what people fear most is not having a choice."
我们终其一生学会拿起,学会放下,学会提放自如。真的学的会吗?有时候我认为能学会的人在某种程度上同时也要是个“狠心人”吧? 如弘一大师?如你?如我?如谁? over our lifetimes, we learn to pick things up, to put them down, to take things on and then to let them go freely. but do we really learn how? sometimes i think those that can learn how to do this are, to some degree, at the same time a "heartless person," aren't they? like monk hong yi?* like you? like me? like who else? [ * was a famous artist until he fasted for 21 days and then decided to become a monk and secluded himself for like the rest of his life ]
《如梦之梦》里说: a quote from "a dream like a dream*:" [ * an eight-hour contemporary chinese play often considered the best contemp. chinese theater production of all time, abt stories within stories.. google for more info, it's very interesting, and zhai tianlin has acted in it ]
谁来过我的梦中?也许我记得,也许我忘了… "who's visited my dreams? perhaps i remember, perhaps i've forgotten...
我去过谁的梦中?也许我记得,也许我忘了… whose dreams have i visited? perhaps i remember, perhaps i've forgotten..."
它还说: another quote:
花开花会落,可花香还留在心里。 "petals will bloom and then fall, but the flowers' sweet smell will linger in one's heart."
夜深了,顿悟时刻也那么快的结束了, the night is late, and my moment of enlightenment's also finished up so quickly.
来的快,去得快,适应的也要快。 it came on quickly and it left quickly — and we need to get used to things just as quickly.
睡了,明天是新的一天。 it's time to sleep, tomorrow is a new day.
谢谢池震,谢谢你,谢谢我, thank you chi zhen, thank you, thank you [to] myself:
谢谢不抱怨的世界。 thank you for never being disappointed in this world.
祝大家晚安 good night, everyone.

Work-in-progress: When Plan's Stolen by Fate by Deborah Wong
Tumblr media
Image by Markus Spiske on Unsplash
When Plan’s Stolen by Fate (Novel excerpt from “One Maple Summer’) By Deborah Wong
It’s July 2010. I’m praying the germ-infused Boeing 777 will land in one piece at Vancouver International Airport, and my Nokia 1202 from back home will function. The Pacific Coast forces may have stolen a bit of my luck as I now have no signal—the battery was well-fed and ready to kick ass.
“If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to call me,” Sandy, the UBC accommodation officer says. Her smile shines sunnier than the Kellogg’s TV happy family commercial.
I thank her and she hugs me.
“Is there a public phone I can use around this area?”
“There’s one at the concierge but it’s under repair. You can try the one at the Student Centre, about ten minutes walking distance.”
“Alright, thanks for the info.”
“No worry. Take care.”
My heart sinks faster than the Titanic; my headache from the jet lag keeps me up like synchronised car hydraulics coupled with Eminem’s rap. To make matters worse, I’m unable to call my parents about my safe arrival—thanks to my dead phone. Sitting here alone, I want to throw myself off the bouncy comfortable bed, snooze off, and let the tantalising air joyride into a lullaby. No one would yell at me for falling asleep; I smell like an overripe durian.
The digital clock in black and white on the wall states 4:44pm.
With a foggy light brain, I try to balance and change into a fleece hooded sweater and denim shorts. I have no choice but to head to the Student Centre. I hope to stumble—miraculously—onto a phone booth. I roll my Holy Rosary in my pocket.
I step out of the dorm and lock the door like an infant experiencing the glaring evening sun at the foreign land. The cold breeze sweeps onto my face and penetrates my head and whole body. I solemnly declare my brain frozen without the help of immense scoops of Haagen Daaz.
I hear thumping footsteps. I brace for the worst. My hand grips the tree, and I prep myself to fly kick à la Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon.
As the footsteps get closer, I punch out my left fist and yell.
When I open my eyes, a man in glasses frowns. “Are you okay?”
I clear my throat and adjust my hooded jacket, embarrassed. “Of course, I…was practising my Kung-Fu.”
He smirks. “You picked the wrong place. What if I carried a knife and I stabbed you as self-defence? You’re lucky I’m not a pervert. You never know what a motherfucker will do. Next time don’t hide behind the tree.”
“Okay, thanks for your advice.” I choke as I feel my face heat up like a red lobster.
“Have a pleasant day and a great summer.”
“I know this sounds crazy but if you don’t mind, could you please lend me your phone? I need to send a text home.”
He turns and studies me.
“I know this sounds weird but I just got here and my phone isn’t working. I really, really need to send a text to my dad back in Kuala Lumpur, to let him know I’ve reached here. Why don’t I pay you a dollar?”
He thinks for a while. “Alright, I won’t charge a cent.” He takes out his Blackberry. “You want to type it yourself?”
“It’s better if you type it for me. It’s your phone anyway.”
“Okay.“ He types like a world champion, listening to me. “You may want to take a look before I send the text.”
I quickly read it. “Okay, you can send it now. Thank you.”
“That’ll be fifty cents service charge.”
“WHAT.”
“Hey, I was joking. I may charge if you’re texting your boyfriend. Anyway, welcome to Vancouver and UBC. I stay in Pacific Crescent.”
“Where is that?”
“Go straight from here, right behind the Asian Studies building, near the Nitobe Memorial Garden.”
“That place looks posh. I’m sure it cost you quite a bit.”
“I have friends coming over very often; hence staying in a dorm isn’t a smart choice. An apartment feels more like a home to me.” He glances at his gunmetal watch. “I need to rush to the convenient store. It’s a great pleasure knowing you.”
“Do they sell any sandwiches or pastries?”
“They only have selection of sandwiches, instant salad and packed sushi.”
“Great, maybe you can show me the way?”
“Sure, no problem…”
“I didn’t get your name.” I walk beside him.
“I’m Jun Nakamura.”
I have not been in this foreign land for twelve hours and I’ve been invited to this house party. Jun tells me Mansfield Heights is the most eventful student housing area in UBC, coming alive only in summer.
There’re blue poles along the cemented walkway and red lightings at each corner. If anyone looks suspicious, ready for misdemeanour or voyeurism, one presses the emergency intercom, a safety object for students, a deterrent. On the other hand, if I were in such situation, I’d run for my life and be sure to look out for this emergency button.
“There’s surveillance camera installed in each lamppost for supervision that links directly to the Vancouver Police Department,” Jun says. His hair is ruffled into pointy soft spikes. He is wearing peasant’s crinkled cut washed jeans and a white t-shirt that reveals his fine avid gym-goer chest.
“So, what kind of party your friend’s having?”
“Booze drinking, cigarettes smoking, chatting and whole loads of eating; take a look around you, it is Friday night but we have to clear the coast by midnight.“ He stops and studies me. “Have you been to any house party before?”
“I did but it was long time ago.”
“How long is long time?”
“I think about fourteen years ago.”
“Whoa, that’s like immeasurable yards away. Anyway we’re here.”
Jun ambles to this NHL nightclub bouncer lookalike, except he has a crimson face and dirty blondish hair. Their greeting is front and back palms slapping and then fists punching like the ghetto Harlem boys.
“Oh c’mon, we don’t welcome underage here.” He stares at me.
“I’m already twenty-eight.”
He laughs. “Sorry, my bad…But you don’t look like your age.”
“So, am I invited?” I raise my brows.
“Of course, you PYT, I’m Montgomery Peterson. Everyone calls me Monty.”
“I’m Maxine Cheong, nice to meet you, Monty.”
Out of nowhere, a girl hops into Jun’s arms, giving him a bear hug, and a quick peck on his cheek. She has porcelain skin and raven shoulder-length hair. “You’re late!”
“Kendra, I want to introduce you to Maxine from Malaysia.“ Jun lets go of her.
“Oh, how un-fucking-believable…” She covers her mouth and smacks his arm. “So, you decided to change your taste for the better, huh?”
“Well, I’m not Jun’s girlfriend,” I smile, curtly.
“Don’t be so serious and spoil the party, or else I’ll throw you out.”
I turn to Jun. Everyone seems to have gone quiet.
“I was just joking. I’m Kendra Choi.” Her tone becomes friendlier.
“Maxine Cheong.”
“You have the coolest name here in Vancouver so far lucky-lucky you.”
Jun returns to the crowd after answering a phone call. “It’s Makoto and he’s stranded at the guardhouse with Yosuke and Paul. The security guard refused to let them in, despite their party invitation pass.”
“Speaking of that guard, he kept calling me a Mongolian and asked whether my family slaughtered horses for a living,” Kendra says.
After Monty and Jun leave to rescue their friends, Kendra and I bump past party-goers before reaching the house living room. She speaks into my ear. “Sorry to disappoint you but it’s still too early to spot a drunkard.”
“I guess they’ll become Intoxicated Cinderella by midnight.”
All the seats are occupied. I have to sit on the carpeted floor, among vinyls of Ozzy Osborne, Green day, Dave Matthews Bands, Cypress Hills, Queen, David Bowie, Rage Against The Machine, just to name a few. Kendra has returned from the washroom.
“Monty once formed an indie rock band during his teens. The band was quite a success from Port Coquitlam to White Rock. But then a fight broke out a day before they were supposed to sign a million-dollar record deal. You wanna know why? The bassist caught the lead guitarist fucking his girlfriend in their trailer. Hell broke lose. All the instruments were damaged by the bassist who ran amok. Worse still, the boys have to pay off the loan and the damaged instruments to the music shop.”
“What instrument Monty played?” I refuse to accept an opened cap bottled drink from a random guy.
“Drums and percussion. He was also a turntablist,” she says with a shrug and a snort, “but one lesson that no other guys will ever learn: do not let your girlfriend join the band practise. Girls fall head over heels with men who play guitars or drums.”
I grab a can of Dr. Pepper from the refreshment bar, while Kendra fills up a plate with finger food. A guy by the banister eyes us before taking up with a girl. Both head upstairs after the guy winks at me.
We spot a three-seater sofa.
“These seats are meant for both of you, my exotic princesses,” says a Hispanic-looking man. He has been feeding another man with bacon stripes.
The Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged record is spinning in the vintage oak wood player. I’ve always been mesmerised by Kurt Cobain’s baritone voice.
“I don’t like his grinding dick voice.” Kendra walks to the player and lifts the needle with the cue lever. “Thanks to Janis Joplin, Joan Jett and Amy Lee, rock music is in my blood now.” She puts on a vinyl of The Runaways, that Cherry Bomb song filled with chattering noises and perfumed muskiness.
“I love X-Japan. Do you like them?”
“Me too!” We do a high-five. “But if you want me to wear a hanbok and play the gayageum in front of Korean men. No way José! Over my dead body! It looks damn submissive. I’ve been referred as a ‘leftover woman’ for not yet being married.”
“You’re not alone. I hear that very often. It happens to me as well. And what a cruel term is that? Nowadays in the Asian community, single and unmarried women are hiring men online to be their boyfriend to please their folks during festive seasons, or to attend their friend’s wedding.”
“Women have the earning power and are financially independent too. Some will have to succumb to the social pressure of not wanting to be called ‘leftover’, hence they get married and start a family, work their peachy-butts out, struggle to get promotion at work, earning more monies for the sake of their children. In the end of the day, it’s always easy to say. But to preserve such feminist though is difficult.”
“I’m in my thirties and not looking forward into getting married,” she says.
“Let’s make a toast to both of us, the most attractive leftovers.”
I raise my paper cup.
She pokes her nose. “Damn, how come I don’t even know you’ve been drinking orange juice? Let’s get you a beer.”
“I’m still recovering from jet lag. Sorry.”
“You should come over to my place one day and we’ll cook up a storm.” She stretches to grab two bottles of beer. “I invite Jun along too. He’s good at ramen, sushi, butter-poached seafood and miso soup.”
“Isn’t that…a big task for him?” I take a bottle but put it aside.
“Give me a break. That guy’s a chef.”
“Jun…is a chef?”
“That smoochy-bear, he is freakingly dedicated and talented. He has worked in Washington DC’s Marriott for couple of years, and then quit after he was promoted to an assistant chef. As to why he quit, well, Jun doesn’t talk about it.”
“…must be those shitty management politics.”
“I still think teaching is the best work so far. Less office politics.”
“You’re a teacher?”
“I teach English to adults and young adults in Tokyo.“ She wipes bread crumbs from her mouth. “And I know this is something uncommon. Even my grandparents are strongly opposed to anyone of us working there due to the Japan-Korea Disputes. So what’d you do for a living?”
“I’ve worked in an insurance company’s claims department for three years. It’s a huge department but most employees quit after the three-month probation. I handle mostly personal accident, employees’ medical bills reimbursement and at times on workers’ provident fund dispute.”
“Any weird cases you’ve dealt with?”
I lean my head on the sofa. “I was reading a decomposed body autopsy report in the food court and a waiter cringed when he saw those bloodied photos of torn phalanges on the claim file. He asked whether the man’s still alive. I said he should be lucky that his fingers didn’t fly into his colleagues’ mouth. His reaction was like this…” I imitate the painting from The Scream.
“Your work is very CSI-ish, so to speak. By the way, I’m curious as to how Jun and you get to know each other.”
“I bumped onto him when my cellphone isn’t working and he helped me to send a text message home.”
“I think you’ve missed the most crucial part.” Jun is walking toward us with a bottle.
Kendra sniffs Jun’s neck. “You smell like fresh from the crispy oven.” She puts her arm over his waist. “He is always so helpful, but inviting you to his friend’s party is his first time. Lot of girls are trying to get their hands on him too.”
Jun whispers to me. “She’s out.”
She clutches her beer bottle, a smile forming on her face. “But you serve a good impression on me, but my experiences taught me not to trust an acquainted human girl too much.”
Later that night, Kendra follows me like a puppy afraid to lose direction. Her eyes stay on Jun whenever we’re engaged in an ear-to-ear conversation because of the loud music at the DJ stands. She puts three Budweiser in front of me. “You have to bottoms up. I don’t care.”
I still have those butterflies in my stomach and don’t have much appetite. But towards the second bottle, Jun pulls Kendra to the kitchen area, and asks Makoto to bring her more food.
Approaching midnight, Makoto offers to drive me back to the dorm, even though it’s only ten minutes walking distance. I’m unable to find Monty to bid goodbye. Jun tells me he’s already passed out near the toilet bowl, and he carries grumpy Kendra into the back of Makoto’s car. I wind down the window, inhale the gentle ocean breeze as the car moves along Marina Drive, but the tranquillity ends with Kendra counting chicken and sheep in a slur.

The novel is about my intensive creative writing workshop at the University of British Columbia in the summer of 2010. At 28 I traveled for the first time 12 thousand kilometers to the other side of the continent. My debit card and cellphone failed, and the one-month stay at a pen pal’s place turned out not as imagined. However, things navigated otherwise when I received accolades from my creative writing course instructors. Discovering the melting pot of diverse cultural background of acquaintances made traveling worth a lifetime.”

Crash Course On Fake Stones/Misrepresentations
Quartz:
+If your quartz has tiny air bubbles it’s glass.
+If it’s got a fruit name it’s dyed. End of story. (strawberry, cherry, lemon, pineapple, blueberry) yes there may be some very rare exceptions-fire quartz being dubbed strawberry- but due to the rise in fakes with that name it’s generally called fire quartz now.
+Aura quartz is a regular quartz that’s been bonded with another material. (man made)
+Cinnabar Infused Quartz usually reconstituted and mixed together to make a red crystal.
+Green quartz can be grown in a lab and anything that forrest green color is lab grown.
Turquoise:
+Magnesite and howlite look very very similar to turquoise when they’ve been dyed, magnesite will have very deep cracks in it though.
+No there is no white turquoise.
+You can do a uv test to see if it’s real
Amber:
+Often faked with Copal. They look nearly identical.
+Amber will float in salt water - copal will not.
Irradiated/dyed stones:
+Very vibrant colors!!
Irradiated: (they irradiate the crystals to get a deeper or more vibrant color)
+deeply pigmented topaz or kunzite
+dark (almost black) smokey quartz
+very deep pink or red tourmaline
+colored diamonds
+some cultured pearls
+vibrant yellow heliodor
Dyed:
+Pearls
+Agate
+coral
+other stones may be dyed as well, generally if it looks fake..it is.
Heat treated stones: (really not a bad thing but if you’re going for natural)
+Amethyst-lighten color+remove brown
+Citrine-heat treated amethyst.
+Aquamarine-remove green
+Ruby-clearer stone
+Sapphire-clearer stone
Rainbow Cal-Silica:
+Nope, completely fake 100%
+Literally just car paint layered with calcite and resin.
Citrine: (I’m so sorry)
+Much of the citrine on the market is lab made.
+If it’s lab made it’s usually amethyst that’s been heated until it changes color
+The bottom of these stones will be white with more color at the tips.
Lapis Lazuli:
+High quality is vibrant blue, hard to come by, and very expensive.
+Low quality howlite, jasper or sodalite is dyed blue, and passed off as lapis.
+Acetone will remove the dye but damage the stone.
Obsidian:
+The clear green obsidian you see all over ebay is slag glass.
+Natural green obsidian has been found but it is opaque and is more gray than green.
+there is red obsidian as well but again, it’s not a vibrant red and is more brick colored.
+Wikipedia is not always right.
Goldstone:
+it’s glass it’s legitimately just glass
Opalite:
+also glass.
+real opalite exists but it’s green and not commonly found
+once again, don’t believe everything on wikipedia.
Bismuth:
+Doesn’t naturally form in the crystals, lab made!!!
+really pretty though
Hematite:
+Not naturally magnetic!
+Magnetic hematite is 100% man made!
Jade:
+Real jade is heavy! A way to tell if it is real is that it’ll be heavier than it looks.
+Jade is faked with the following:
+Serpentine “New Jade” or “Olive Jade”
+Prehnite
+Aventurine quartz
+Grossular garnet “Transvaal jade”
+Chrysoprase “Australian jade”
+Malaysia Jade- dyed quartz that may be called by its color – Red Jade, Yellow Jade, Blue Jade
+Opaque dolomite marble “Mountain Jade” (usually dyed)
Dragon vein agate:
+Quench cracked, bleached, and dyed agate and some is quench cracked, and dyed glass.
Snowflake obsidian:
+Being faked with a very low grade cheap dalmatian jasper.!
+Snowflake will be gray while Dalmatian should have a lighter color
Hollow galena:
+A lot of pieces have been proven to have been faked through sand blasting + similar techniques (but there may be real ones I’m not 100%)
Charoite:
+Chinese Charoite doesn’t exist.
+If it’s called that then it’s not real, real charoite isn’t banded and is more swirly.
Moldavite:
+Very very commonly faked!!
+Biggest giveaway is the ‘wet’ look a faked piece has due to the molding process
+White moldavite doesn’t exist!!
Sunspar:
+It’s really just yellow Labradorite, which isn’t a very rare gem
Andara Crystal:
+no such thing
+massive scam
+literally chunks of slag glass, worth like, .1% of what they are sold for.

My Best Travel Experiences of 2017
New Post has been published on https://fashiondesigne.com/my-best-travel-experiences-of-2017/
My Best Travel Experiences of 2017
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pic: Lufthansa Top class Terminal in Frankfurt Another year of intense traveling has come to an end. Time to summary with an overview of my highlights of 2017. For an in depth travel report of the initial 5 months of 2017, check my post The Luxury Nomad Lifestyle .
Flights
Tumblr media
After a record year in 2016 with 116 flights and  160432 miles flown , it had been going to be tough to beat my record in 2017. With 3 more flights scheduled on December 29th and 30th, I am going to break my personal record with a total of:
121 flights, 161352 miles flown, 6. 5x across the earth, > 400 hours up in the air
4 First Class flights with Lufthansa
54 Business Class flights with LATAM, TAP, Azul Brazilian Air companies, Ukraine International Airlines, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Turkish Air companies, Cathay Pacific, Brussels Air companies, SWISS, Austrian and Lufthansa.
Best High grade Flight: Lufthansa
Tumblr media
Pic: Lufthansa Reliable Caviar Service with Yellow Goose Vodka. Not hard to choose a success in this category as I most effective flew Lufthansa First Class today. Compared to last year, 12 1st class flights with 6 airline carriers, my presence in the World class cabin was limited this valentine’s day. I redeemed 62, 1000 Miles & More a long way for Lufthansa First Class the actual Middle-East twice and one hundred ninety, 000 miles for a roundtrip First Class to Mexico Vicinity. I have now flown greater than a dozen Lufthansa First Class aircraft on all airplane advantages (B747, A330, A340, A380) and still see it as one of definitely the First Class experiences. The ground business at both Frankfurt and as a result Munich are the cherry round the cake. Check my Instagram Stories video:   Kranich (umgangssprachlich) A330 First Class to Syria .
Tumblr media
Pic: Lufthansa World class Frankfurt to Mexico County on B747-800
Tumblr media
Pic: Emirates new Superb on B777-300ER Bonus: Emirates asked me on the inaugural work day (December 1st) of their hot First Class on the B77W as a static tour at Brussels Airport. Result: added the brand new EK F to my ocean list, a potential candidate for optimum First Class Flight of 2018. 😉
Most significant Error Fare: Brussels Airways
Pic:   Azul A330 Business Class Lisbon for São Paulo (Nov 2017) I have personally flown a number of Business Module error fares this year, among them:
This town to São Paulo  (VCP) via Lisbon with WATER FILTERS and Azul (one-way, 414 EUR)
Athens to Mumbai via Brussels with Brussels Airlines (649 EUR)
Sofia to Johannesburg with Austrian and Kranich-airline (umgangssprachlich) (883 EUR)
Mexico City to Easter Island via Santiago contenant Chile with LATAM (1023 EUR)
Tumblr media
Pic:   Brussels Airlines A330 Group Class (May 2017) The education a solid A330 Business Courses product with good program and the excellent value for money (649 EUR roundtrip, earning 20140 redeemable Miles & Good deal more miles) made the Brussels Airlines Athens so as to Mumbai error fare winner of the day. Pic:   LATAM B789 Business Class in which to Easter Island (Dec 2017)
Greatest Miles Redemption: Etihad Wedding
Pic: Brussels Airways intra-Europe Business Class nutritious meal Simply because detailed in my July 2017 post , My hubby and i flew a series of Brussels Aircraft intra-Europe Business Class flying in the first half of the 12 months by redeeming ridiculous easily affordable amounts of Etihad Guest kilometers. I don’t think I’ll noticed have the opportunity again to redeem  775 miles + in most cases EUR for a Business Get together flight!
Airport hotels
2017 was your first year I preserved track of my hotel uses:
Global: 37 nights
Hilton: 23 nights
Holiday Inn: teen nights
Airbnb: 11 nights
Crowne Plaza: 7 gatherings
Holiday Motel Express: 5 nights
Double Tree written by Hilton: 4 nights
HappyCulture Hotels: a lot more nights
Park your car Inn: 3 nights
Other: 43 days or weeks
FINISH: 153 nights
Best Bch Hotel: Qunci Villas
Tumblr media
Pic:   Qunci Marinas at Lombok Beach (July 2017) Originally planned as a ‘transit’ stay on my way to i would say the Gili islands,   Qunci Villas turned into the best beach hotel I’ve stayed at in 2017. At just 112 EUR for their night it was a real find. It even included the optimum breakfast I had in 2017. Highly recommended, even by Gilles De Coster ! 😉
Tumblr media
Pic.:   Sunset at Memo Islands (July 2017) BTW Gili Islands are not worth it: overcrowded, expensive and polluted (definitely Bobo Trawangan). Stay on Lombok, enjoy  Qunci Villas and make sure to produce a night or two at Flemish owned boutique hotel Puncak Lombok . Track my Lombok & Gili islands Instagram Articles .
Tumblr media
Cam:   Infinity Pool around the Puncak, Lombok (Jul 2017)
Most useful City Hotel: 1898 Some of the Post, Ghent
Tumblr media
Picture by Zannier Hotel chains An exciting most expensive hotel stay coming from all 2017, but also one of the best township hotels I have ever devoted at. The brand new 1898 The Post hotel in Ghent. When i paid 255 EUR (excl. breakfast) for a ‘ A Letter ‘ living area. The service, the attention designed for detail, the setting, bicycles and the breakfast on bed clothes made the high rate much more than justifiable. Highly recommended for a very romantic getaway!
Most advantageous Price Guarantee: InterContinental Fango
Photo: Club Suite at Global Malta (Aug 2017) Many of these IHG stays this year appeared to be free thanks to the  Cheapest Price Guarantee . Such included 3 stays in a wonderful new Club Suite for InterContinental Malta. Check my own Instragram Stories for a  tour of the Club Séquence .
Tumblr media
Pic:   Sunset seen from Skybeach at InterContinental Malta (Aug 2017)
Best Fin & Activities
Tumblr media
Sommet: Sannap Cliffs at Agrado in Malta (Sep 2017) Me visited thrity four countries in 2017 of which 9 the first time: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Getaway, Chile, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon and Paraguay.
1 . Easter Island
Tumblr media
Pic: Rano Raraku on Easter Island (Dec 2017) In December, I visited one of the extremely remote inhabited islands in the united states, Easter Island. The more compared to 900 Moai ,   monolithic human estimates carved by the Rapa Nui people between the years 1250 and 1500, make the destination an unique travel destination.
Tumblr media
Pic:   Anakena Gulf of mexico Easter Island (Dec 2017)
minimal payments Iguazu Falls
Tumblr media
Photo:   Argentina side the Iguazu Falls (Nov 2017) On the inside November, I visited the main waterfalls system in the world, the  Iguazu Falls . Confirm my Instagram Content pieces video   pointing to both the Brazilian and Australia side of the falls as well as the experience  Devil’s Throat by 360 .
Tumblr media
Pic:   B razil side of the Iguazu Reductions (Nov 2017)
3. Aiguille qui hérite du Midi
Tumblr media
In February, outrageous vertical ascent cable vehicles in the world (1035m to 3842m) transported me the top concerning Aiguille du Mi-journée , a mountain involved in the French Mont Blanc lourd. Even with a temperature as to -10ºC / 14°F, this became a fantastic experience thanks to the sunlit weather with no wind anyway.
4. Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Sports car
Pic: Lufthansa Excellent Porsche Experience (Jul 2017) Key unique perks of living Lufthansa First Class is the capability rent a Porsche just for 99 EUR during your layover in Frankfurt or Munich. I’ve done this several times now, but it’s even now a thrill to push that gas pedal in kickdown mode on the German Autobahn! Want to try it yourself? Kick off point saving those Miles & More miles. Signing up for each of our Brussels Airlines American Express r4 card gives you this head start with 12, 1000 bonus miles.
5. New York City Helicopter The flight
Pic:   FlyNYON Helicopter flight above  Manhattan (Nov 2017) Finally be checked off my bucket place: a doors off micro helicopter flight above New York City! FlyNYON may be only licensed tour operator controlling helicopters directly above New york city. It was freezing cold the first November, but a mind blowing practice. Check my FlyNYON Instagram Stories video .   TIP: Want to do keep in mind this yourself? Make sure to sign-up for ones FlyNYON newsletter or trail them on social media. The businesses regularly have 40% from sales. I booked currently the NYC Experience tour for just 139 USD.
