WOAH. CONG BO ON FIRST NAME TERMS WITH CHENG XINGYAN?!

I am dying to know about all of your guardian wips 👀👀👀
[In response to this post.]
(And anyone else who would like to ask about a WiP, please do! ^_^)
I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE ASKED ME ABOUT THESE.  ^__________^
OK, getting these out of the way first, because they are no longer WiPs...
cheng jie KNOWS: This is the fic that became This is Not a Shovel Talk.  ^_^  This is the fic set right after Zhao Yunlan loses his sight and Shen Wei brings him to Dr. Cheng.  Set in a much broader universe (the universe tag is “college shen wei fic”) where Dr. Cheng and Shen Wei were good friends in college, and she had taken bb!Shen Wei, fresh-faced from Dixing (and millenia underground OTZ) under her wing and he imprinted on her like a baby duckling.  ^_^
FEET: I’m sure anyone who’s been following me for a hot second recognizes what this must be.  ;D  It’s the fic that became The Inherent Intimacy of Walking Barefoot Around Someone Else's Home... which is NOT a foot fetish fic, no matter how much Zhao Yunlan thought it might be.  XD  It’s about the INTIMACY.  The YEARNING.  FINDING HOME IN EACH OTHER.  It’s about the DOMESTICITY OF IT ALL, OK?  ...also a ridiculously hot picture of a barefoot Zhu Yilong looking like an absolute thirst trap, BUT WHO’S COUNTING.  XD  (...you’re welcome.  ^_^)  All fic notes and posts can be found under the tag “the foot fic,” because I’m just original that way.  ;D
And now on to the actual WiPs! ^_^
...but behind a cut because this is getting long.
buried and stabbed bookjoyworm: OK, so this one actually... may be self-explanatory.  XD  I reblogged this writing meme yesterday, and bookjoyworm was RIGHT THERE with this suggestion: “trapped under something and stabbed/impaled for weilan.”  (I’m still taking prompts for this writing meme, BTW, if anyone is interested.  ^_^)  And my mind IMMEDIATELY latched on to the idea of some kind of a car accident or cave in where Shen Wei got everyone else out, but was then crushed under the debris/trapped in the crushed car himself.  And he’s half out of it because a piece of debris is literally pierced through his body and he’s slowly suffocating, and he’s the other half out of it because he’s flashing back to the millenia he spent trapped and buried alive and his brain just kind of shut down in panic.  Of course, they’re eventually going to get him out and he’s going to be fine, but HE IS NOT HAVING A GOOD TIME, IN THE MEANTIME.  And I know this is weilan, but I’m on a Shen Wei and Da Qing kick atm, so there is also going to be a little bit of “even as rotund as he is, Da Qing can squeeze through the debris and reach Shen Wei and helps act as a lifeline when Zhao Yunlan has to stop talking because he’s going hoarse.”  ^_^
Shen Wei college fic 01: ...exactly what it says on the box?  ;D  This is the first snippet of what will eventually become the larger universe from “This is Not a Shovel Talk.”  Takes place the first day of orientation with Cheng Xingyan taking a bb!faced Shen Wei under her wing. First bit is actually posted here, if you’d like to read it.  ^_^  Labeled “01″ because I see this being a series of shorter fic, much like the Care and Training of a Former Megalomaniac” series.  ^_^
Mirror Mirror (x this short film that Z1L did with Li Bingbing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48K8Q7JyrNU): Oh, I am EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE.  I am... currently in the process of taking a lot of it apart and rewriting it, but I’m still very excited.  ^_^  First of all, I recommend watching the YouTube link.  It’s a short film (~6 minutes); it’s set in the year 2084 on the Moon.  But here is the gist of it: a woman (LBB) has come to see an art installation of multiple mirrors.  The exhibit is about to close, but the curator (Z1L) keeps it open for her, conversing with her as she looks at the mirrors, but eventually becoming too overcome with emotion to continue talking.  She eventually follows the exhibit around to the stairs that lead up to the office and confronts the curator.  It turns out they have a history.  By the end, you get the definite feeling that there is a reconciliation (...and maybe more?) in their future.
So of course, I IMMEDIATELY went... omg... what a GREAT concept for a Guardian reincarnation story.  *_*  So, the basic premise is that drama canon pretty much went as drama canon goes.  Some 30-40 years later, Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are reincarnated.  Shen Wei doesn’t remember anything at first, but he’s haunted by his image in the mirror, convinced that the boy he sees in his reflection isn’t him, but is instead someone else.  (Spoiler: Because it is.  Two guess as to who and the first one doesn’t count. ;D)
He has... a rough go of it.  He starts pursuing art as a way to try to purge the half-memories and images that haunt him, eventually fleeing for the isolation of this installation on the moon, because he can’t handle the oppressive concern of everyone around him for his sanity.
Zhao Yunlan, OTOH, was orphaned as a child, but found and adopted very quickly by Da Qing and Zhang Shi.  I don’t think he remembers his former life, at all, but most of the major players are there; it’s only been 30-40 years and even the humans could still be alive by then.  He’s been following Shen Wei’s art for a while, fascinated by the young brilliant recluse, some nagging sensation of familiarity telling him that this person is special, and more importantly, special to HIM.  He eventually saves up the money to go to the Moon and see the mirror installation.  (By this point, Shen Wei has his memory back and he is absolutely floored that Zhao Yunlan just... waltzed into his exhibit like that, and he doesn’t even know how to begin to process it.)  The rest of the fic follows the short film canon, only this time it’s Zhao Yunlan seeing Shen Wei and just... KNOWING.  And then they live happily ever after.  ^_^

[ @fan-man-huaisang in reference to this post, second part to this post.]
*cracks knuckles* And now on to part 2! Where DMBJ comes in. ^_~
SO. Guardian runs pretty parallel to canon (apart from the tweaks of Shen Wei getting his LFS memories back and the changes that entails), through to the drama ending and Zhao Yunlan lighting the Guardian Lantern, only when Shen Wei dies or discorporiates or whatever the hell he does at the end of the series, and meets Zhao Yunlan, who now has the power of the Lantern behind him, Shen Wei throws all caution to the wind and decides it can’t end this way, he has to FIX IT.  And he reaches for the power of the Guardian Lantern to do purposefully what his soul had done subconsciously for all of those years--launch himself back into the timestream to be born as a human.  Only, this time, because he’s trying to do it on purpose, and he’s aiming backwards to try to fix the timeline... he overshoots a bit and lands himself in about 1977, where he’s born as Wu Xie.
With no memory of anything else.
And he lives that life, again running pretty much along DMBJ canon until TLTR.  And here’s where things take a turn.  Because in this version of canon... Thunder City is actually Dixing.  And when they get there, and Wu Xie’s body is exposed to dark energy again... certain memories start to awaken.  And they essentially get there just in time to interfere in that final final showdown--Shen Wei has already been absorbed by Ye Zun, but no one else has died.  Wu Xie and company get in the middle of everything, with Wu Xie and his newly reacquired and primed powers at the ready and he’s PISSED.  Because he’s... not really Shen Wei at this point.  He’s Wu Xie.  And Wu Xie is a hell of a lot more ready to resort to death and dismemberment for a slight against a loved one than Shen Wei is.  So they get back who they can get back, and when Shen Wei is “returned” from Ye Zun, his consciousness basically merges with the rest of himself in Wu Xie.
...and that’s where all the fun starts.  ;D
Because some mornings Shen Wei wakes up mostly Shen Wei.  And some mornings he wakes up mostly Wu Xie.  And some mornings he wakes up Fusheng, and that’s ALWAYS exciting. ;D  It’s not really a split personality thing, just a “who’s memories are mostly in the foreground at any given moment” thing.  And as a result, there is a LOT more crossing over between the Guardian crew and the DMBJ crew, and there are people who meet and get along wonderfully and others who... don’t.
(Zhao Yunlan and Pangzi become great drinking buddies.  Shen Wei and Ershu have regular meetings for tea.  Xiao Hua finds out who Cheng Xingyan used to be (...for funsies, she has her memories back) and who her foster father was back then and flips his ENTIRE shit with opera nerd glee.  Li Cu ends up interning at the SID and going to Dragon City University and upsets the entire thing by thinking his biology professor is another of the Wang spies who was impersonating Wu Xie back then, and then the whole story comes out and Zhao Yunlan finds out how he met Wu Xie and... let’s say that Shen Wei is VERY careful to make himself scarce around Zhao Yunlan on the days he wakes up more Wu Xie for a while after that until Li Cu helps them mend fences.  Ye Zun and Wu Xie, OTOH, get on like a house on FIRE, because Wu Xie won’t take Ye Zun’s shit the way Shen Wei will, and Ye Zun LIKES that.  XD
Later on when Dixing/Haixing treaty renegotiations are happening and... not going well... Shen Wei wakes up Wu Xie one morning.  Zhao Yunlan sighs and reaches over him to get his phone and cancel the negotiations... and Wu Xie stops him.  Because Shen Wei keeps getting run right over the top of in these negotiations, but Wu Xie is WAY better at intrigue than Shen Wei could ever hope to be.  He goes along to the meeting, dressed as Shen Wei... and quietly and calmly rips them all apart.  The SID get everything they want out of that negotiation.  And from then on Zhao Yunlan and Wu Xie make a wary sort of peace with each other. ^_^)
So, YEAH, that’s barely scratching the surface of the headcanons I’ve built up for this mega crossover.  And the problem at this point is that I don’t think I could get this written in any kind of reasonable way that wouldn’t take me 10 years and a million words to write.  XD  So I will PROBABLY never write it.
...but never say never, right?  ;D

and 4 for Zhu Hong, Wang Zheng, and Cheng Xinyan!
Ooooooooo. Guardian ladies edition! :D
[If anyone else wants to play, here are the choices. ^_^]
4. write a book with, read a book to, hit with a book
OK, I'm going to write a book with Cheng Xingyan, because we're both in the medical field and I feel like we would have a lot of fun doing that together. (And there is bonus potential of roping Shen Wei into at least hanging out. ;D) I'm reading a book to Wang Zheng because 1) of the three of them I feel like she'd be the one who'd most enjoy a quiet evening curled up by the fire and enjoying a good story (and because I CANNOT imagine hitting her with a book TT^TT). And I'm hitting Zhu Hong with a book because she is a pretty damned good fighter and she is teaching me to protect myself with things that are close at hand and YAY I managed to score a hit! At which point she is going to smile proudly at me and then knock me on my ass because I got distracted. XD

Oooh amnesia for the WIP game?
Thank you for asking, @sasamelons! :D
[If anyone else would like to ask me about a WiP title, you can find the list here.]
So, first things first: I honestly had started to think I really was done with writing for Guardian.  I’ve been in a weird place with it for a few months and it still hasn’t quite settled yet?  And in the meantime, the muse has moved on to other pastures.  And then @elenothar hit me with “what if Shen Wei waking up in Haixing but WITH HALLOWS-INDUCED AMNESIA a la Da Qing?” and my muse went: “................YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION” and turned it into a university found family fic.  ;D
I have exposited more than once about how much I love Shen Wei’s university found family, from his sister, Cheng Xingyan, to his two lovely daughters, Li Qian and Jia Jia (and all the little ducklings that come with them), to his dear doting papa Professor Zhou.  And this seemed like a PERFECT opportunity to jump into that even more.  ^_^
So, how about a snippet?  ;D
Shen Wei knelt quietly on the ground, gaze turned down, for a moment that seemed to stretch on for eternity. Eventually he said, "I would go… to the university?  I would be a student?  I could… I could learn anything I wished?"
Now Zhou Yiwen smiled. "Yes, Shen Wei.  You could learn anything you wished.  Anything at all.  Literature.  Mathematics. Culinary arts.  The stars, the earth, the nature of human interaction. Any course of study that exists would be open to you."
Shen Wei's head snapped up, shining eyes locking on Zhou Yiwen's, his body all but vibrating with the energy he put forth as he breathed out: "I want to learn it all."
Zhou Yiwen threw his head back in a full-bodied laugh.  Finally, he clapped a hand on Shen Wei's shoulder.  "Shen Wei-ah, Shen Wei… If anyone could, I believe it would be you. We can start at the beginning, the broadest strokes, the widest variety, and help you narrow it down from there." At Shen Wei's enthusiastic nod, Zhou Yiwen stood, mindful of the way his knees now creaked as they unbent, and said, "Then that's settled.  The new term starts in one month.  We'll enroll you then."  Looking Shen Wei up and down, he wrinkled his nose.  "And we'll have to see about clothes and a haircut, too.  We can't send you to classes in my hand-me-downs, with you looking like a refugee from The Legend of the Condor Heroes."
Though Shen Wei clutched momentarily at his hair when Zhou Yiwen mentioned the word "haircut," he was quickly diverted by the literary reference with which he was unfamiliar.  Zhou Yiwen waved Shen Wei towards the kitchen.  "Yes, yes, I have all three books somewhere in the study.  I'll pull them out for you after we eat.  No point in letting the dinner you prepared for us get cold, is there?"
As Shen Wei served the food, selecting all the best bits to put in Zhou Yiwen's bowl before he had even picked up his chopsticks, he smiled, his heart warming.  He had never married, never had a son to pass his legacy on to; he'd never really wanted such things until recently.  His father had been disappointed in his lifestyle, in his choices, until he breathed his last breath.  But his mother… Zhou Yiwen had a feeling that she would be pleased with this bright, eager young man, who showed such deference, such respect, for his elders. He resolved to someday arrange a meeting.  He had a feeling it would do them both good.

AHAHA.  OH, boy.  So.  This is a MONSTER crossover idea (which is probably why I’ll never write it), and even summing it up could easily take thousands of words.  Which I am NOT going to subject you to.  XD
But in short... something else.  They’re all Shen Wei.  ;D
So, my pet theory is that for the 10,000 years Shen Wei was trapped under all that rock, his mind was drifting in that starry place between the portals/wormholes/etc., vaguely connected to the world, but not connected enough to fully interact with it or be conscious of it.  And with him so disconnected from his body, it was difficult to take in enough dark energy to fully maintain it.  So every now and then, his consciousness would sort of... reappear in the world and be born as a human, live enough years to act as a conduit to funnel dark energy to maintain himself, and then “die.”  Generally speaking, these lives don’t last very long--a few years at most--but somewhere around the 1920s/1930s... something happened.  Someone he knew from the past was nearby.  And he subconsciously held on, wanting to stay close.

[ID: On the left is a picture of Luo Cheng (mid-chest up) from Granting You a Dreamlike Life, episode 14, in a black sweater and his black cap, facing left and looking pensive. On the right is a picture of Da Qing from Guardian, episode 1, in overalls, a white shirt, and a necklace with two bells as charms, his body facing right, with his head turned to the left, showing mild surprise. /end ID]
^_~ (...what?  It’s my headcanon, I do what I want. ;D)
So Shen Wei lives a life as Luo Fusheng, and Da Qing eventually insinuates himself into Fusheng’s life as the younger half-brother he never knew.  Events run relatively true to GYADL canon (Fusheng never remembers who he is) but with a few background tweaks, e.g., Xu Rui’an is Dixingren, making Xu Xingcheng and Xu Xingyuan half-Dixingren.  (This becomes relevant later, as they’re still alive in Guardian’s time. ;D)
Fusheng eventually dies (as in canon), and his consciousness returns to the place between portals, those memories of his life as a human relatively dim and distant and eventually fading entirely.
(If you have followed my Shen Wei in college headcanons at all, Shen Wei has two good friends in college, Cheng Xingyan and his roommate, Liu Cheng.  The former is Duan Tianying’s reincarnation, the latter is Xu Xingcheng.  ;D  TOTALLY BY COINCIDENCE.  They don’t figure any of this out until much much later.)
Events in Guardian canon again, run pretty much as canon, with the added tweak of Shen Wei and Da Qing eventually regaining their memories of the life they lived together in the 1920s/30s.  And... I think I’m going to make a second post to explain where the DMBJ stuff fits in, because this is getting very long, and I’m really trying to keep it short.  XD
