Talking, naming things out loud, telling others what we experience is reconstructing our history. Naming is identifying, is giving form to something. ‘The Subject was already defined through the expectations of her/his parents, through the naming of attributes they wanted to see in her/him’ says Lacanian psychoanalysis. What was said of me that I don’t know, that I don’t feel yet and that defined who I am? Have my parent’s wishes found in me a ground where to blossom?

I’d be quite ambitious if I’d wanted to have all the answers now and to show what I find. I’ll just say I’m working on it. Maybe it is a lifetime project, maybe raising more and more questions is becoming a practice for me.

Anyway, today it was a nice day. I woke up early and did what I wanted to do. I’m doing what I like to do, dancing, DJing, writing, singing, taking care of my place and myself. The notion of deserving pleasure is very much present in my everyday life, sometimes I dive into it fully, sometimes not, but I keep on trying to develop the discipline for wellness, and sometimes I just drop everything and surrender to madness, but as I said before those are just phases, as the seasons. I’m glad to see that after darkness there’s light again.

This was another selfie I made for the #selfer project. The theme was future. And I feel for a while that future is bright.

in my experience they’re more concerned if you don’t cry. they usually want you to go ahead and let it all out

that's really encouraging, because i probably am going to tbh.  i have to keep reminding myself that helping folks deal anxiety and depression is literally their job. :\

My sister's got a sweet afro but my mom is giving her a really hard time. Her words are hurtful especially in the context of having permed our heads aggressively since we were quite young. We've had chemical burns, which was apparently worth it as long as we weren't nappy. Since we graduated we've both started fresh and gone natural. Its no small feat that my sis can feel comfortable in a fro after her upbringing, but I don't know how to talk about it without pissing my mom off. Any tips?

Lost: I don’t have a good answer to this because when my parents do this to me I tell them that my hair and body belongs to me and tell them they don’t know what their talking about and don’t know natural hair. Which is not a good way of going about it.

Does anyone else have a good suggestions?
