Ramble time about Makoto and a little mini headcanon I came up with cus why not B]
Sometimes, I like to believe that Makoto gets really deep into stuff. Basically him in his own little world, hyper-focused to the max such as him cleaning, research, planning. Stuff like that. In the peak level of him in this state, he'd go, burst into a room, rummage around for anything he might need, and leave all while anyone who was in the now ransacked room is just 100% ignored. Bursting into rooms with the determination of the Kool-Aid Man (def not the strength tho) Makoto doesn't even remember that there were people in the room either. He could have been in a room with 58 other people for instance and if you quizzed him on how many people were in that room he'd just blank out like "People? What people?" This applies to whoever he lives with as an adult as well as way back with his parent's and sister. I can see his parent's never getting why he'd zone out like this. Like, they've tried to get it cus they of course wanna understand this weird part about their oldest child. They never really succeeded with it though and just accepted it as one of his weird quirks. Meanwhile, Komaru teased the shit about it to him cus of course she would. After all, it's the little sister privilege to completely dunk on the older sibling. 'Tis the law. Plus, it's not like it's the biggest piece of ammo she has on her older brother. This is Makoto we're talking about after all. Also, cus why not, (might as well be a BIT self-serving hehehe) I'm slipping in my mini headcanon of Makoto, Kyoko, and Byakuya living together casually in the same apartment/small house. Plus, it's funny imagining these two experiencing Makoto's little moments like this. Feel Kyoko would be more used to Makoto basically forgetting her existence when he gets into these hyper-focusing grind moments. Even when she first learned about it, I doubt it'd affect her much. Like, what is she gonna do? Have a little grudge for a solid week and a half with her roommate and lowkey boyfriend? And, besides, what idiot would have a grudge going on for that lon- oh right... Byakuya exists. Yeah, unsurprisingly, the heir is the type to be petty as shit about something like this. Has 100% without fail been disappointed to some extent and bummed out whenever he gets ignored like this. Or ignored in general. At the end of the day, he's a bit of an attention whore (the bit taking it lightly) It's his tsundere way to act like a needy, bastard cat. He'd basically take it personally while Kyoko's shaking her head cus he's taking it personally and Byakuya's all like "Tch. Stop making the assumption I'm taking it personally" and they go back and forth about it during the week all while Byakuya side eyes Makoto who's very much not aware he's even done anything wrong. His little stunt only happened once that week and he doesn't even remember Byakuya being in the room with him while he was rushing about their living quarters looking for junk like some toothpaste and a hanger. And this goes on until the week ends until Byakuya's basically over it, Kyoko gives him the whole "I told you so" look which for her is just her regular expression but with one of her brows slightly raised which she may or may not be actively trying to raise it higher but can't cus that's as far as it goes. Also this is a common occurrence for them all at least once a month. Oh, and the week is the minimum amount of time for Byakuya to hold a petty grudge for and they've lasted way longer ^v^

The Only Dream that Matters
- a one-shot I wrote about a cute little graphic novel that I love. It's called Cheer Up! Love and Pompoms, and it's about Bebe, a trans girl, and Annie, a cis girl, falling in love after they become friends again since Bebe's transition. I hope you like it!
“Grab some logs from the shed!” Annie hollers over her shoulder to Bebe while heading her house, rummaging around for a lighter.
After some searching, she tracks one down beside a bin of camping gear in her basement. Sauntering back outside, she finds her girlfriend looking accomplished beside a large pile of wood, her face glowing with satisfaction. “Wow, that didn’t take you long! I was only in there for like,” Annie counts her fingers, “6 minutes.”
“I guess I still have my unfair biological advantages” Bebe jests, widening her frame like a baby bear trying to look intimidating.
A few newspapers and a burnt finger later, the pair’s fire lights up, just as the sun’s illumination fades out behind the horizon. With school and prom, it was difficult to organise hangouts for more than an hour after classes, but with summer arriving and their grad year panic on the backburner, Bebe finally convinced her parents to let her stay later at Annie’s. At last, they settled on a backyard bonfire with camping chairs and marshmallows to celebrate.
Once set up, the girls take a seat, and bust open the marshmallows. Annie, who’s been camping since she was 4, likes to really take her time with each roast, while Bebe, to Annie’s dismay, just swipes the marshmallow over the flame out of fear that it’ll catch fire and she’ll get burnt. Regardless, she seems like she’s having a good time, so Annie lets it go. As the night goes on, conversation slowly wound down, as their supply of marshmallows became sparse. Bebe shuffles around slightly, and settles in a position with her legs up on the chair, holding her knees. “Hey Annie?” She asks, looking over in passive admiration to her favourite person. “Would you be okay with doing this more often?”
“Of course I would, who wouldn’t want to hang out with me more. Why do you ask?”
“I-” Bebe hesitates, meticulously planning out her words. “I just want to make sure you don’t get bored of me.”
Annie tilts her head, raising an eyebrow as the marshmallow at the end of her stick catches fire. “Bea, you have got nothing to worry about. You’re like, the coolest person I know.”
“Are you sure? I really like you, but I know I can be a lot sometimes”, Bebe responds dejectedly, fidgeting with her marshmallow stick.
“I’ve never been more sure about literally anything, pinky promise.”
Bebe, eyelids getting heavy, smiles a little to herself, and Annie, sensing the opportunity to be a big dopey lovebug, runs inside to steal the biggest blanket she owns from her bedroom. She returns to find Bebe nodding in and out of consciousness in her seat. Annie gently takes her hand, and leads her tired girlfriend to a flat patch of grass adjacent to the chairs, where they take a seat near the fire and wrap the blanket around themselves, until the two are bound by a comfy cocoon of yellow and blue cotton. Bebe loses the fight with being awake, resting her head on the other’s shoulder. Annie, succumbing to the same drowsiness, looks out into the campfire one last time, to think about how lucky she is to have a girl like Beatrice. The final straw breaks, as Annie drifts off into a deep sleep, snuggled up next to the dream that matters most to her.

Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms by Crystal Frasier Annie is a smart, antisocial lesbian starting her senior year of high school under pressure to join the cheerleader squad to round out her college applications. Her former friend BeeBee is a people-pleaser—a trans girl who must keep her parents happy with her grades and social life to keep their support of her transition. This was the sweetest and most heartfelt graphic novel! I loved Bebe and Annie. I just wanted to hug them both anytime something transphobic or homophobic happened. I also wanted to punch all the transphobic assholes.
I loved that Bebe and Annie got to figure things out together and grow and be themselves. Also, I loved how they were complete opposites! With Bebe being more elegant and Annie being more goth/punk. I also loved that they had a whole team of queer cheerleaders that surrounded them with support and acceptance (after being called out). I really loved Cheer Up! and I would give anything to read more of this story. Cheer Up! is getting five stars from me.

[KEEP WATCHING?]
“Together we are Fandemonium!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve been feeling overwhelmingly nostalgic when it comes to MSM, which I believe is partly why I’ve been a bit “hostile” in my mentions of it, more specifically towards the fandom. I’m trying to get used to the changes, I really am, but it’s hard. To make it a bit easier on myself, I’ve decided to bundle my thoughts about it with my Other Favourite Mobile Game, Sky.
The logic here is: If they’re together, my love for both of them will be enough to cancel out my hatred. So far it seems to be working alright, so I’ll continue doing that.
In less heavy words: The Fandemonium hosts as Skykids!
A bonus earlier doodle...

If you want to, you can suggest a Monster species that you’d like to see as a Skykid.

If I had a nickel for every graphic novel I owned with sapphic cheerleaders, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. 💕

Top 5 media with trans rep/themes?
Thank you, @xserpx!
Truth be told, this question is actually trickier than you think, because I haven’t read/watched that much medias with explicitly trans rep/themes, I own a lot, but haven’t read them quite yet, and the better stuff I’ve read is sequestered in my writing server via snippets and tidbits from others... or indie/self-published publications and patreons... and, uh, not to oversell my stuff, but my own writing KOFF KOFF.
To be clear, I do have enough to give a list, but given what I’ve heard of Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin (can you believe I bought that damn book six times?) and Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt, this list is liable to change after checking out at least the former.
But without further ado...
Cheer Up! Love and Pompoms by Crystal Frasier and Val Wise - Look, I promise I love pain and violence and self-loathing and feeling like your skin’s a stranger to you, but this was done by a trans writer and artist team and it damn shows. As a whole, it really sings in how the trans experience feels like acceptance in your support network is conditional on how well you act. How well you don’t rock the boat, how well you perform to your preferred gender, and how unstable and insecure you can still be, despite all that and more. It doesn’t wallow in those thorns too long, but in terms of trans rep and theme? It’s my favorite, and it doesn’t hurt that I love the art.
Tangerine, directed by Sean Baker - If the above was the more optimistic take of trans childhood, this is the poignant, if still playful, reality behind a decent chunk of adult trans womanhood, done with a cheap budget, but with verisimilitude intended. It doesn’t pull punches on how shitty trans sex workers are treated, how they’re objectified and abused, but it still allows them agency and personhood in how they go about the tangle of their professions and personal lives. And, more importantly, it doesn’t pull punches of how fellow trans people can hurt each other through their flaws and bad choices... but doesn’t surrender that they can still offer solidarity when the going gets really tough from systemic transphobia.
A Grisly Communion by N.J. Barna - If the first above was trans experience as childhood joy and love, the second was grounded street-walking reality, this is transcendental body horror. It’s a story that understands following our commonplace religious institutions can give you some degree of safety... but it can’t give you peace of mind, nor body. That the (fat) trans experience is conditional on being useful, on not taking up so much space for threadbare tolerance, and it’ll never be enough, given that fatness intersects upon the transness of it all. So, when unusual idols of worship are offered... we take them, because they, at least, would pay respect to our bodies and grant us the power to be on the other side of being meat from judging eyes.
Boys Run the Riot by Keito Gaku - I really wish this wasn’t cancelled before its time. This manga deserves at least a year’s worth of chapters, being an unconventional look into high school adolescence through a trans man’s pen, and a trans boy’s eyes as he navigates through being closeted in Japanese school culture and masculinity, his love life, and especially his daily choices of fashion, and how he eventually tries to gain more friends and allies through opening himself up... with plenty of teeth in how trans privacy must be respected for their safety, and how influencer culture intersects with gender performance and the need for online cache, with no easy answers there.
Realm of the Elderlings - What Hobb lacks a bit in the full understanding of transgression in the trans experience or culture as a whole, she makes up for in allowing a messiness in individual characterization and having one of the best gender nonconforming characters in all of fantasy. I’m not as crazy about the Fool as some fans, but he’s eminently quotable, layered, complex and messy as hell, and when he talks about love and yearning, such concept of malleable bodies, and how he transgresses cultures with utter confidence in his presentation, it’s enough to make one’s heart swell and ache at how there are not more characters like him in fantasy, for when he speaks of such experiences, it feels like he touches a part of you that transcends the physical.
