the last thing he'd wanna do is exacerbate the problem so when you're mid anxiety attack, he'll whisper soothing words to you, his touch is soft and gentle, and he never treads too far or too fast, afraid to startle and upset you

like marcus, callum will make sure prema knows how to take care of you before the season starts just in case an anxiety attack comes when he's busy doing media or off racing

he's also not afraid to sprint halfway across the paddock to get you anything you need. water? he's finding the nearest fresh source. his hoodie? already retrieved it from his driver's room just for you

he will go above and beyond to make sure you are safe and happy and you're not struggling - that's the very last thing he wants :(

if you find the paddock too overwhelming, pato will never force you to go and he will get the best laptop with the best streaming service for his races so that way you can watch at your own comfort level, even though you're literally in the hotel near the track

pato can be quite loud and chaotic, but he's always so careful with you and he will not be afraid to tell people to shut the fuck up if they are being too much

is so down for your weighted blanket, i just know he finds it really relaxing and grounding after a tough race

jack doohan:

jack is so down to just yap at you if you want that when you go non or semiverbal, im not even joking

even though he's clearly not that important in the eyes of alpine, he'll try and get pierre to get alpine to make a nicer material for his team kit that way the texture doesn't upset you

if you find that touching or playing or fiddling with the hair, clothes or accessories of another person calms you down, he's willing to let you fiddle away (he'll apologise a BILLION times over for shaving his hair if you liked playing with it)

jack is pretty friendly and nice, but he will quickly become vicious if anyone upsets or mocks you. he will straight up not tolerate that shit at all

willing to do whatever it takes to make you comfortable when coming to the race track but he knows how loud it is so he won't ever, at all, force you to go with him if you're not comfortable doing so

liam lawson:

gets obsessed with your special interests/hyperfixations because he loves listening to you talk about them and he'll end up sharing any relevant fun facts you teach him with his fellow drivers/his team

he knows unfamiliar touch can be scary to you so he'll warn literally EVERYONE that they have to be careful around you - he refuses to potentially put you in a situation where you get overwhelmed or have a meltdown because that is the last thing he wants

speaking of meltdowns, he's really good at helping you calm down from them - he knows all the right things to say or not say, he knows which comfort items help you calm down quickest and he's even willing to let you scratch at him if that's something that helps calm you down

always carries your headphones in a special case that way, should you need them, they'll be a) easily identifiable and b) kept safe and secure, usually in the bottom of his bag

always willing to change clothes if they make you uncomfortable. in fact, he might even go so far as to throw them out and replace them because what's the point in wearing certain clothes if his baby can't hug him whilst he's in them?

will prep all his friends and staff members on how to make sure you don't get overwhelmed and what to do if you are and he isn't there to comfort you

your meltdowns scare him because you seem so upset and so hurt and he hates that. he hates you being hurt and so meltdowns are really difficult for him (obviously, he knows they are more difficult for you, but he can't help how he feels)

every race weekend he attends without you will end up with him coming home with a handful of gifts that he knows you'll like - plushies if you like em, sweets & candies & treats that he knows are your comfort foods, etcetc.

christian mansell:

well prepared KING - he's got everything you need the second you tell him you need it

he doesn't really have a huge say in how his team kit is designed so if it's an uncomfortable texture for you, he'll try and stay out of it for as long as possible to avoid upsetting you

if there's certain foods you cannot stand to be in the same room as, he'll make sure that everyone knows not to bring it near him or his driver's room - if he has to lie and say you're allergic for people to take it seriously, then so be it

if you go nonverbal and just make little noises instead of speaking, he will very quickly pick up on your nonverbal language system and be able to decipher it damn near flawlessly

christian is another driver who is not afraid to yell at other drivers or, if he's comforting you, he'll get pepe to go and do it for him instead - he's not letting anyone disrespect you

*waves* hi I am a scientist and while Burning Man isn't my thing, I knew at least two similarly-precarious scientists in grad school for whom it was, plus a number of their friends who were *checks notes* the same kind of nerdy hippie leftist twonks as me. There are lots of people who go in order to test things like "how good can we make a medic system?" or "can we build a functional city if we try X new thing?" or all manner of other things, because that's the kind of thing people do there. For fuck's sake, it's a huge anarchist crowd draw.

I am also a scientist who eyes the "eat the rich!!!" stuff and the related "scientists don't CARE about REAL people like ME, or CONSIDER the experiences of REAL people like ME, a QUEER/WOMAN/DISABLED PERSON/BIPOC/insert-group-here" anti-establishment vein that is quite popular on tumblr and flinches just a little.... because, yeah, what you're saying right there, Feather. Like, I'm over here working to stay in this fucky system because I want to use its power to shape it to work alongside known structural issues: I'm just one little fat queer autistic, me, but I spend a lot of time talking about how to make fields sit down and pay attention to viewpoints that don't always get the most airtime. and the thing is, I am not remotely alone: I work alongside whole networks of people who want to build a better world this way and are willing to sacrifice quite a lot, personally, to do it.

and that gets totally elided in these kneejerk desires for blood and vengeance, when we assume that "the rich" are the people in the neighborhood next door with a little more stability than we have, rather than the very few extremely wealthy people who... yeah, could buy Burning Man outright if they wanted. That's not say we shouldn't be angry and that this anger and desire for someone to pay isn't potentially productive, but you know the saying: friendly fire isn't [friendly]. It is critically important when we are stoking anger to be careful about exactly where that anger goes so that we can minimize spillover.

And I wonder: where do we draw the line on bloodshed? If you murder a king, the people who loved that king and what he represents turn him into a martyr and a hero. If you murder one of these wealthy oligarchs, some fraction of their people--their children, grandchildren, extended family, people who they've employed for years, people who imagine they could be that wealthy--those people will set their hands against you in their own vengeance. Should they be marched to the guillotine blades?

If you instead make them fear you so badly that they dare not lift a hand in response to their hearts filled with hatred and sorrow, does that build a better world? What stories will their children and yours hear about your terrible power? How tightly would you ferret out the secret, poisoned terror and grief and rage among the hearts of your people?

Wind time back. Return to the present. Consider: what if we fantasized not about murder, but seizure of property and redistribution? What if we simply think "we need to pick up these motherfuckers, shake out their vast heaps of wealth, and distribute it fairly so that everyone including those fuckers can access comfort and safety?"

Do their retainers harbor the same hatred for you? Oh, the money is gone, but everyone shares in the same comfort, even the screaming billionaire. (Vast wealth rots your brain: the billionaires are probably even more upset than they'd be in the timeline of the guillotines, and they are certainly around to enjoy their new humble circumstances, but when they are objectly also provided the freedom and enough resources to maintain the same comfortable lives as everyone else, it's hard for their families to be too resentful--especially when the children ask what happened, when those children are next born.)

Seeing the notes on posts about the Burning Man Debacle™ and for fucks sake I am taking the phrase 'eat the rich' away from y'all until you can CORRECTLY IDENTIFY the rich

Rich is 'arrived by way of their private jet', is 'dropped $500k on a submarine ticket', is '$500 is a rounding error'.

'$500 dollars for a nine day event they must all be rich white people' no you reactionary rotten potato that is actually an entirely reasonable price for an entirely normal person to pay for an annual event! $500 over the course of a year is approximately equivalent to one big takeout a month! Being able to afford that doesn't make you rich it makes you probably not poor! The 'rich or poor' narrative is a false dichotomy that completely excludes the fact that 'richness' or 'poorness' is a SCALE! It's not fucking categorical! You don't one day magically flip a switch and go from 'poor' to 'rich' or vice versa you see incremental changes over time! Wealth distribution is a (these days, admittedly, rather wonky) motherfucking BELL CURVE! . The fact that capitalism is driving more and more people to either extreme of said curve is just evidence of a broken system, but it doesn't change the fact that most people should have a decent amount of disposable income!

The fact that many people don't have said disposable income doesn't magically make the ones that do 'rich' it makes everyone else poor. And the people at fault for the massive and growing percentage of people living below the poverty line are not the ones managing to stay above it, it's the fault of the actually rich, the ones stealing our time and our health and our wages and our future in pursuit of a number on a screen. And the rich are the only people you're helping by hating the people struggling slightly less than you.

When it comes time to 'eat the rich' you're going to be murdering dentists and librarians and scientists while the actually rich point and laugh from a safe distance as you solve their problems for them.

Giant Meteor 2020

So I’ve been hinting in other posts, but why not, let’s explain the shiny new hell I find myself in...

For 3.5 years I had a really great roommate, we got along in that introvert way, we shared some things but not others, he loved my weirdness and I loved his minimalism (hah) and honestly it was great. But he got his dream job with Blizzard doing art for WoW (yes really) and they paid for him to move, so with the Bay Area being what it is, he took the opportunity and escaped. Good for him!

However, that left me with a whole Bay-Area-priced 2bd apartment and no roommate. During these times of woe, it’s hard to find someone new, and by the time the 29th rolled around I was pretty much desperate, though thanks to the efforts of a lot of good friends & clients, I did have one whole month’s rent ready to go.

Enter Creepo (nicknamed to protect the crazy). This guy shows up presenting himself as a 50something (I am 47, this seems fine) professional, nice clothes, nice everything, got his check ready to go and smells of nothing more than a smoke on the way to calm his nerves. He comes off as nerdy/awkward, maybe autistic, but whatever, no worse than many of the other nerds I know. So, I sign the sublease and let him move in on the 1st.

The moment Creepo moves in, he starts drinking.

He has not stopped drinking since then.

The drunker he is, the more his hidden mental illness comes out! He talks to invisible people, and thinks he’s “the one true god.” No, really. Sometimes he talks REALLY loudly, at 3am. Also, he is apparently really not employed and spends his days shuffling around downtown, drinking and smoking. He smells like the floor of a bar in the 90s, has passed out in the bathroom twice, and is generally WAY more than my tired, anxious/depressed ass can handle in this the year of our satan 2020.

He absolutely refuses to even consider getting help.

He also will not leave.

Creepo is so far not dangerous, but, he is also really, really manipulative. He makes sideways almost-threats, he behaves better in front of strangers, he tries to gaslight me about his previous bad behavior, he pretends he doesn’t understand stuff in order to get away with not doing it (like locking the doors when he leaves at 3am for a smoke, but locking them just fine when he’s the one inside).

ANYWAY, I was already planning to move! In... 2022! When we would all be in a better position to get a bigger house in the little town where my found family lives, etc, etc.

Soooo... the move has been moved up to early December.

Since Creepo’s on a sublease, that becomes void the moment the master lease (aka my real lease) is terminated, so once I go he’s just summarily out. Otherwise I have to go through a very long, expensive process to evict him and, if I’m leaving in 5-6 weeks, why bother?

But this means all of a sudden paying for a $$$$ move across the country in... a month!

I have a lot of feelings about society and support and addiction and mental health, but the real truth is, Creepo lied to me and I did not consent to be this guy’s whatever, and so, no, I cannot and will not give him the support and community he needs to become a better person or whatever. Please do not bug me about whatever your opinion is on this matter, the reality is that Creepo is awful and I am not obligated to put up with his lying, gaslighting, horrible bull.

My husband is autistic, I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, social anxiety, ADHD and have a provisional autism diagnosis. We both have executive dysfunction issues. I'm 38 weeks pregnant, and my anxiety just keeps getting worse about how we're going to deal with getting things done once the baby is born. I normally have it under decent control, but with the anxiety getting worse and the resurgence of depression symptoms, the executive dysfunction has gotten so much worse. (1/2)

Really hoping I don’t have to deal with post-partum, but even if I don’t, we’ll still be dealing with lack of sleep. I feel like we’ll be able to adequately handle the baby and clean up after changing diapers, but I’m worried about everything else like cleaning the house. I know we can ask for help, but I don’t want to get dependent on the help either. I couldn’t find anything on the blog about parenting with ADHD, especially executive dysfunction. (2/2)

I’ve been meaning to write some posts about parenting with ADHD, now that I’m nearly four years into it. I gotta add that to my list. *does so* Okay.

Now, I will note that you’re ahead of me in all of this because I have never in my life had the housework under control. But we are all doing well, my kid is generally healthy, and that’s the biggest thing.

You have a couple of weeks until the baby comes. In that time, figure out what things are non-negotiable: that is, things that if you can just stay on top of them, you will feel like things are going okay. For me, that’s dishes and laundry. When those get behind, I start to feel frazzled.

And next comes a whole lot of suggestions and advice.

Try to get the house clean before baby comes, and enlist help to get it there because you are not as mobile or flexible as you will need to be in order to get everything done.

Choose a couple of locations where you will be feeding the baby, and get those places set up ahead of time with reading material, phone charger, etc. Make sure you have a blanket for your legs, and you definitely want a comfortable chair, preferably with arms so you can rest your arms with baby’s head on your elbow. Think about including non-perishable snacks and drinks you can enjoy at room temperature. I mostly fed my son in the living room, and I breastfed him, but even if you’re bottle-feeding you’ll need stuff to do and you may be sitting there for a long time sometimes.

Think about where you’re going to change baby’s diaper, too. Again, I mostly did that in the living room, but sometimes I did it on my bed in the bedroom. Set up all potential locations with wipes, diapers, etc. (we did cloth initially so I had pins and diapers and diaper covers and diaper cream in a box that was easy to grab and carry wherever I needed it).

I’m not going to advise you about sleeping arrangements beyond the recommendation that baby sleeps in the same room for the first six months. This helps with SIDS. We put my son’s bassinet next to my side of the bed, and when he woke up for a feed I got up and carried him out to the living room. This worked for us because my husband has a regular job with a half-hour commute each way. Of course, executive dysfunction being what it is, my son’s room wasn’t actually fit for him to inhabit until he was 18 months old, when we decided to finally put him into a proper crib because he was climbing out of his travel crib in our room. Remember that for a baby, 5 hours in a row is “sleeping through the night”; it’s easier to deal with the interruptions if you’re not expecting different. By about six months, baby should be sleeping longer and longer at a stretch. You can find more about sleep solutions at Precious Little Sleep (really helped me; so did the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child, by Marc Weissbluth). (Note that I am not into “Attachment Parenting” but I am into Respectful Parenting.)

Okay, here’s what saved me when my son was tiny: if he was awake, and happy, and fed, and had a clean diaper, I put him on a blanket on the floor in the living room and let him do his thing. I lay him on his back, which gave him lots of opportunity to move his body however he needed to, and I didn’t bother with mobiles or anything, though sometimes I did put a toy where he could bat it with his hand or see it if he turned his head. Babies are new to this world, and there is loads for them to take in this way.

I talked to him all the time (oh, wait, maybe that’s why he doesn’t stop talking now). I told him what I was doing before I did it. If I was leaving the room, I told him where I was going and when I’d be back. If he cried, I responded by talking first, letting him know that I heard him. If he cried for longer than a couple of whimpers, I went over to him and asked what was wrong, commented on whatever was going on, and put my hand on his chest if he seemed to need my touch. If that didn’t help, I picked him up and investigated. After a little while I knew what cries meant what, and I didn’t need to wait and see most of the time.

The idea here is that you don’t have to hold your child constantly, so you can do other things when they’re awake (not just when they’re asleep). In addition, the wait and see approach to crying allows you to support the baby when they’re upset and to learn what different cries mean, while also giving them space to figure stuff out for themselves (like self-soothing, for example).

As baby becomes mobile, you will want to set up a play space that is totally safe and doesn’t require your supervision. A lot of parents who do this use a playpen initially and then move to gated areas in the home. You’ll need to think about furniture (it should be anchored to the wall if there’s a possibility of it toppling), outlets (block them with those child safe thingies), and so on and so forth. You don’t need a lot of toys in this space (if you Google “yes space” you’ll get the idea), and they don’t need to be extravagant. This gives your child somewhere to play independently, and you can do things elsewhere (checking in regularly, of course).

Back to new baby stuff: you’re going to be tired after baby is born. If people offer help, take it, especially for the first month or so. 

Giving birth is a physically demanding activity. I had an emergency c-section, and if that happens you will be recovering from surgery as well as caring for a newborn. 

I have a good friend who gave birth to twins in September (no c-section and I’m pretty sure no painkillers either), and they were in NICU for a while, and she went back to work (she’s a paper carrier) after two weeks because it’s good for her mental health. (She’s married. Her husband did her routes while she was off, and he also cares for the kids—they also have a 5yo—when she’s sleeping as he’s seasonally employed.) 

Everyone recovers at a different rate, but it does take at least a year to fully recover physically from being pregnant and giving birth. So cut yourself some slack and ask for help if you need it. You won’t become dependent on it if you want to eventually do it all yourself again.

Once again, I have done my best to sort the Bacchanalians by track.  It was much more challenging than last year (and took a good deal longer), where I only mixed up two.  The music track is easy, of course, but combat and improv are another matter.  In the end, I simply could not decide for a fair number, and these are listed in a separate section.

A small note, I had to copyedit the FUCK out of these descriptions.  Man, I dunno, I think their apostrophe key was maybe busted? and there were loads of misspellings, a few missing spaces, and occasionally just the wrong word entirely.  If anyone with any sort of influence on the Faire’s website happens to see this, PLEASE go back and fix these errors.

In fact, she loves being a boss so much she might try to hire you to manage the day-to-day operations so she can focus on big-picture items: like how to spend her hard earned ducats.

Sean Besecker :  Captain James Thatch – Captain of The Queen's Vengeance

Thatch grew up on pirate ships watching and learning from the best sea-robbers in the business, so it is no surprise that he is one of the most ruthless and cutthroat pirates to sail the seven seas. While polite society would consider him uncivilized, he does live his life adhering closely to a very important set of rules: the Piratical Code.  [pyrate ship count: 1]

Dark and brooding, the mysterious Bartholomew Wainwright is often mistaken as cynical when a better term for him would be logical. He makes decisions using his brain and not his heard – the same cannot be said for some of his fellow Yeoman.

With knowledge of the civilized world, Edward Mawson, sometimes referred to as Maw, is the perfect First Mate to his unruly Captain. The Leader. She is bold, brave, fearless and knows the world of piracy like the back of her well-worn hands. Sheena actively attempts to keep the peace in ORC but enjoys looting and pillaging as much as her fellow captains. Her deeds are heroic, but often tall in nature! Ask her to tell you all about when she saved her entire crew with a single plank of wood. She will regale you.  [pyrate ship count: 2]

Leigh Anne Hamlin :  Captain Scarlett Seymour – Captain of The Shadow of Prophecy

The Joker. She is laid back, extremely confident but relentlessly lazy. Scarlett always cracks jokes and makes light of difficult situations. She has been a pirate all her life and she is damn good at it! She is fond of long naps, drinking and gambling. Whats her secret? Good luck and tons of it!  [Four things.  First, pyrate ship count: 3.  Second, presuming she named he ship herself, I guarantee that this character is queer, because that’s the most Extra ship name ever, and only us queer folk are that overdramatic.  Three, prophesy? seymour? see-more? r u kidding me?  Four: if you go look at her headshot, this actor bears an uncanny resemblance to Vanessa Sterling.]

Megan Jones :  Captain Ruth "The Blade" Gibson – Captain of The Jolly Walrus

The Wild Card. She is tough, blunt, and has a wee bit of a rage problem. Although she loves piracy and has the scars to prove it, she melts at the sight of children and cuddly animals, who have the ability to soften her strong demeanor. Do not dare question her about the name of her ship! Shes sensitive about it.  [Oh hell yeah, Megan Jones is a pyrate! I am very pleased about this.  Also, pyrate ship count: 4.]

The newly appointed Captain of The Malevolence. The innocent. She has inherited her newfound position of Captain after all the members of her crew mysteriously perished in a tragic maritime accident. She has a thirst for knowledge and craves to be the very best in her new career! Elanor is extremely enthusiastic, but a bit frightened of the weight of her new position. She has a malicious alter ego named Cookie.  [Well, that certainly took at turn at the last line!  Pyrate ship count: 5, and whomever named this vessel was definitely queer, too.]

Autumn Sheffy :  Siobhán O'Sullivan – Royal Music Tutor

Having left the rest of her family behind to seek her fortune, this maestro has ascended to the ranks of the English court! Surely she wouldn't lord this success over the rest of her siblings...

Jordan Bell :  Gilda O'Sullivan – Musician

Gilda is an optimistic and charismatic leader. She hasn't the time for negativity or ill will amongst her siblings, so she simply pushes through it with a bright smile. She is a perfectionist and an overachiever. She adores music and her siblings, despite their failings, and will do anything to make sure the festival day goes off without a hitch. She has the color-coded scrolls to prove it! because what are we, animals?

Morgan Harwood :  Alannah O'Sullivan – Musician

Alannah is kind, carefree, and a bit odd. She is the youngest of the quintuplets and the most connected to the universe. She has the ability to see magic creatures and is often overtaken by her imagination. Her magic touch can calm her siblings when the time arises. The music she performs grounds her back in reality. She doesn’t walk, she floats.  [Whelp, this character obviously has a connection to the fae, so she’s definitely Autistic.]

Jared Haverdink :  Keagan O'Sullivan – Musician

Keagan is a realist, has an excellent sense of humor, and is endlessly sarcastic. He has a bit of the ol’ Irish temper that is easily set off by small things. The most talented musically of the O’Sullivan siblings, he was always very skilled, but has recently improved dramatically, almost overnight. His siblings are suspicious he has made a deal with a sea witch for his newfound shredding skills.  [I’m so glad that last sentence exists.]

Joey Mudd :  Deklyn O'Sullivan – Musician

Deklyn, like his sister Gilda, is a very friendly and charismatic young musician. He is full of life, energy, joy and is extremely earnest. However, he does tend to worry, and his imagination takes hold, extrapolating the smallest misstep that could lead to the doom of his family. Frequently stares into the middle distance, right between the crucial and the trivial, between existential dread and I’ll take the dressing on the side.  [The Millennial™]

Christopher Burch :  Sterling Armstrong – Highwayman, Leader of Group

The leader of this merry band of misfits. He is bold, ambitious, but a tad arrogant. Sterling fancies himself as a ladies’ man, but when approached by a woman, he can’t always follow through. His leadership style is that of blind intuition. His British dialect is very put-on and manly, but he often slips into Cockney, his real voice, when angered. Sterling doesn't walk, he glides. Is that his real name or did he make it up?  [FUCK YEAH THEY DID THE THING THEY PUT HIM ON THE MUSIC TRACK YESSSSSS!]

Chase Brackett :  Tucker Abbot – Highwayman, Sterling's Protégé

A former homeless orphan who was adopted by Sterling Armstrong as his younger brother and protégé . He absolutely worships the ground his brother walks on. Tucker is very bright, optimistic, and somewhat naïve. He is completely unaware when he says filthy and inappropriate things. Sterling said it so it must be fine! He loves the life of crime, but mostly he just wants to find a beautiful lady and sing songs to her pretty face forever.  [This character description has newsie energy.]

Pete Hedberg :  Jeremiah Slight – Highwayman, Sterling's Right-Hand Man

He is the muscle of the group, but secretly the brains. Jeremiah is the only person keeping this group afloat, but he would rather stick to the shadows than be in the limelight. He is excellent at thievery and a master of disguise. If you get close enough to find out how many accents he can do, you may not live to tell the tale!  [*laughs in a decade of faire accents*]  [also slight is the right hand man? slight of hand? fuck you.]

Ian Agnew :  William "Bill" Crimson – Highwayman, former Benadictine Monk

A former Benedictine monk who was living a pious life in an abbey. He one day was hit in the head with a bible, decided to leave the cloth and turn to a more exciting life of crime. He adores his new lifestyle and lives it with absolutely no restraint or regret. Bill has a newfound love of drinking, women, and gambling. He may have a few loose screws, but he’s never been happier.  [So there’s a good bit to unpack there.  Kind of like a reverse Cadfael.]

Sheila Barton :  Lady Delores Anne Penburthy – Lady Mayor of Mount Hope

Effervescent and vivacious, the Lady Mayor is sure to give Queen Elizabeth I the warm and generous welcome deserving a ruler of England. Having earned the love of the townspeople, the Lady Mayor could teach the young Queen a thing or two about earning the trust and loyalty of her people.

Adam Shepley :  William Cecil – Advisor to the Queen

Her Majesty’s most stalwart advisor, and head of her privy council. Usually the smartest man in the room, and well aware of it, Cecil knows Elizabeth will be a good queen. Honestly after her sister Mary, things can only go up.

Joe Penn :  Jacob Perry – Sheriff of Mount Hope

He loves putting away bad guys and solving mysteries. The only mystery he cant solve: how to grow up.  [Oh. Hell. Yeah.]

Jonathan Handley :  Sir William Pickering – Nobleman

Well educated, well bred, well connected. William Pickering has studied at the best schools, spent time among the French court, and is a good friend of Queen Elizabeth; but surely he would never let those things go to his head. He is still a man of the people, with his finger on the gilded pulse of the court.

Rob Condas :  William Shakespeare – Apprentice Glover

Everyone needs gloves, and serving all levels of society has made young Bill a keen observer of the human condition. He has heard many stories, and feels that he has many stories to tell. He’d like to try his hand at playwrighting – maybe he can wrangle up some actors to try out a new play or two.  [This is absolutely genius, because if we remain in the same universe for a couple years, we’ll get to see his transition to fully-fledged playwright!]

Adam Kampouris :  Christopher "Kit" Marlowe – Playwright

Full of charm and swagger, this playwright can woo a hundred paramours without running out of pickup lines; finish several thousand tankards of ale without retiring for bed; and accomplish almost any task without exerting too much effort; but he cannot seem to finish a play. He is hoping Mount Hope Shire will provide him the inspiration he needs to pen his next masterpiece.

Kelsey Jefferies :  Gretchen Froman – Heir to the Sausage Throne

Her parents have newly acquired a fortune from their successful Sausage empire, and they like to flaunt it! Fortunately for them, their daughter is responsible enough for both of them and makes sure they don’t blow it all in a single shopping trip. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy some of the perks – just that she is the only one of the three with some class about it.  [For context, see the Blackfryars’ descriptions.]

Noelani Stevenson :  Eskarina Nutter – Wise Woman

This cunning woman knows that there are things in this world that cannot be explained, and their solutions must be equally inexplicable. A mistress of folk medicine, herbal lore, and charms, she will heal you up quick or dispel the evil eye. Just remember that what she can cure, she can just as easily give back if you cross her.  [hell yeah my pagan girl!  Also if you look at her headshot, her design is literally Sabrina but a little paler and with blond hair, which is most amusing to me.]   [but like,,, why is her last name nutter.]

Kira Gaudynski :  Stella Hopfield – Bottler

Wife of John Hopfield. Though her title is Bottler, she does so much more – marketing, distribution, HR, pretty much everything that isn’t the actual brewing of the beer...and girl, is she good at it! She thrives under pressure, and fortunately for her, there is always pressure abounding.

Ryan Perry :  John Hopfield – Brew Master

Patriarch of the Hopfield family. His brews are best. His ales are awesome. His stouts are stellar. His lagers are...really good too. Hes proud of the name he has made for his family, and knows that beer is the true heart of Mount Hope.

Katelyn Shreiner :  Sherry Tanningrove – Mistress of the Cellars

Sister of Horice Tanningrove and his partner in the winery. Her mind is like the aging process of wine: calculating, patient, and meticulous. She has an eye for detail and rarely jumps to conclusions. She knows that trends come and go, but wine will be forever.

Michael Stahler :  Horace Tanningrove – Vinter

Patriarch of the Tanningrove Family. Wine is what put the shire of Mount Hope on the map, and Horace is proud of that family tradition. He knows Queen Elizabeth will have a more refined palate than her late father and sister, and will help bring Mount Hope’s wines back to the top no matter what those uppity Hopfields say.  [yeah okay so there’s definitely a family rivalry here]

Alright, You Stumped Me

Katie Burch :  Theresa Ratchet – Rat Catcher

Sickness has begun blanketing the world. Some people blame it on bad smells, some people believe it to be God’s wrath due to the sinful ways of today’s culture. Theresa, however, believes it to be because of the rats. She can’t prove it, and no one else believes her, but she will do whatever it takes to rid Mount Hope of these verminous infestations and save the populous in the process.  [Heck yeah, my science-based girl, go get it!]

George Hamilton :  Douglas Johnson – Master Thief

He’s been arrested so many times by Sheriff Perry, they know practically everything about each other. One might even suspect they’ve become friends, but Douglas Johnson would never take advantage of his friendship....in any way that would be obvious to Sheriff Jacob.  [I’m always a slut for this sort of dynamic!]

Shannon Holder :  Rose Hopfield – Brew Master's Daughter

Impulsive, independent, and passionate, this young woman is exploring the world on her own and beginning to see things in a new light, not solely from the perspective of her brewmaster father. By the end of the festival day, she may even sip her first glass of wine!

Jesse Kortus :  Jack Tanningrove – Vinter's Son

Idealistic, intelligent, and inquisitive, this young man is coming into his own and beginning to question the things he has grown up with as facts. For example: contrary to his father’s opinion, there seem to be a great deal of people upon the shire who prefer beer to wine. He intends to spend the day finding out just why that is.  [....oh great we’re gonna have friggin’ het star-crossed lovers up in here, aren’t we.]

John Surgener :  Charles Kent – Yeoman

Fiercely loyal to the Queen, Charles Kent is every bit the ideal hero. With a strong moral compass and an idyllic spirit, Kent is fast, powerful, and has quickly leapt to the top of the list of the Queens favorite Yeomen.

Haley Ward :  Amy Cooper – Cooper

Who would have thought a business person could suffer from TOO MUCH demand? With the ongoing conflict between the Tanningroves and the Hopfields, Amy has been profiting, but at the cost of much sleep. Maybe today she’ll finally be able to enjoy a day off.  [*sleep-deprived fistbump*]

Theresa Ratchet – Rat Catcher: while Katie Burch has historically been combat-track, the character description gives no indication of combat; moreover, her participation in Theatre in the Mansion indicates to me that she has the necessary abilities for the improv track; neither her website nor twitter reveals anything one way or another; finally, I have a unproven gut instinct that one is more likely to remain on cast more years running if one switches tracks.  Verdict? could go either way.

Douglas Johnson – Master Thief: George Hamilton has been on both the music track and the combat track (though music is here ruled out), and his participation in Theatre in the Mansion indicates to me that he has the necessary abilities for the improv track; thieves of various sorts are often on the combat track, but it seems his main acting partner this year is on improv; I cannot find a website for further information, and his social media reveals nothing.  Verdict? six of one, half-a-dozen of the other.

Rose Hopfield – Brewmaster's Daughter: character description indicates a divergence from her parents’ worldview, so while I have her parents under improv, it would make some degree of sense for her to be on a different track; only some degree, though, and character description does not indicate combat; Shannon Holder‘s resume seems to indicate possibility in either track.  Verdict? honestly probably improv but there is wiggle-room.

Questions Of Legality Of Stauffers’ Controversy: Influencers Put Child Up For Re-Adoption

On May 26, Myka Stauffer and her husband James released a video titled, “an update on our family,” on Myka’s YouTube channel. In this video, the couple revealed that they have decided to “rehome” their 4-year-old adopted son Huxley. They said that Huxley, who was diagnosed with autism, had “a lot more special needs that [they] weren’t aware of, and that [they] were not told.” As such, they sought the advice of medical professionals, who “felt that he needed a different fit and his medical needs. He needed more.” [1].

In a comment on her video, Myka wrote:

“We would never just give up a child with special needs, this is a personal matter to Hux it had nothing to do with [him]. He just had Autism. Multiple scary things happened inside the home towards our other children, and if these events happened with one of my biological kids, after all the help and after the behaviors we witnessed sadly we would have no other choice then to seek help and get their needs met.” [1, 2]

The couple, who share four other children together, adopted the child from China in 2017 and vlogged their adoption process on YouTube [6]. Overtime, the Stauffers profited from their monetized vlogs, which featured Huxley, and gathered sponsorships; Myka even wrote articles and interviewed about the adoption for blogs and magazines. [3]Since their confessional video, however, several companies have terminated their partnerships with Myka—including Fabletics, Playtex Baby, Chili’s, Danimals, Big Lots, and Suave. [4] While some followers have supported the Stauffers, others have criticized their decision, questioning the ethics of their “rehoming” proceedings and the ethics of sharing Huxley’s life on a monetized channel. [5]

The Stauffers are not disclosing the exact process they are going through in order to protect Huxley’s privacy and not “mess anything up…legally…for his future.” [1] This, in turn, has led to concern that the family is going through the process of unregulated custody transfer (UCT), through which parentsdelegate authority for the care of the child to another person through power of attorney. However, power of attorney is intended to be for temporary transfers of custody; thus, “it does not terminate the legal relationship between the parents and the child.”

Furthermore, UCT occurs “without the safeguards and oversight of the courts, the child welfare system, or another appropriate entity that has the capacity and authority to assess and protect the child’s best interests.” This puts the child at risk to be placed with families without criminal background checks or clearances on the parents and without assessments for the child’s safety and well-being. Unfortunately, when writing a blog/ article, the content may become lengthly, therefore, in this blog/ article, I am going to shed light on a few disabilities and mental health issues.

As I continue to post blogs/ articles. l will begin to define and number them. This should help you know where we are on each topic. Are you ready for the overview?

WHAT DEFINES A DISABILITY?

“The ADA defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability. It is unlawful to discriminate against such persons. Persons with disabilities are also entitled to reasonable accommodations in the workplace.”

  Various Types of Disabilities

Hearing Disabilities: Hearing impairments may result from problems in any part of the ear or the hearing center of the brain.

Learning/Cognitive Disabilities: Auditory Processing Disorder (ADP), Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Language Processing Disorder, Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities, Visual Perceptual/ Visual Motor Deficit, ADHD, ADD, Dyspraxia, Executive Functioning, and memory.

Motor Disabilities: This is the loss or partial loss of function of a limb, body part, that may result in muscle control and weakness. Motor disabilities include paralysis. The types of motor disabilities are associated with neurological conditions, to include multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, cerebral palsy. Additional motor impairment may come from other parts of the body. A stroke can cause an extreme form of motor impairment called “locked-in syndrome”, which the use of the limbs, eyes, and all other cognitive functions that would normally be voluntary, are lost. This is due to the lower brain or brainstem being damaged. Paraplegics (Tetraplegia), is another form of motor disability. In many cases of paraplegia, neutral interfaces are explored in efforts to restore some functionality of the motor skills. This can include implanting a device in the brain motor cortex.

Mental Health Conditions: This is bi-far one of the most controversial, misunderstood, under-diagnosed, less-treated, monitored and mocked of disabilities in my opinion. Mental health conditions and disabilities can range from manageable to unmanageable. They require the correct diagnoses, treatment plans, and ongoing treatments. The list includes anxiety disorder, mood disorders (depression, bipolar, cyclothymic disorder), psychotic disorders (hallucinations, schizophrenia, delusions), eating disorders (binge eating, bulimia, Nervosa, anorexia. Impulse control issues are considered a mental condition, kleptomania, pyromania, alcoholics, drug abusers, compulsive gambling. Personality disorders are a wide range of mental health conditions and disorders. Personality disorders, dissociative identity disorder (I really want to deep dive into this disorder in the next blog), antisocial personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, paranoid personality disorder. These specific personality disorders mentioned cause the person to be extremely inflexible, they cannot deal with change well, they experience different thought patterns, these disorders often interfere with work, school, and relationships. The obsessive-compulsive disorder causes a person to possess repetitive thoughts or fears, they are prone to retain rituals such as counting how many times they do something, triple-checking locking the door, catastrophic thoughts if a task is not completed in a specific way. They may constantly wash their hands, follow the same routines, and be overwhelmed by unreasonable thoughts and fears. PTSD is topping the list of mental health conditions/ disorders currently. It is a condition that is generally developed after a terrifying and/ or traumatic event. It can encompass a wide variety of life-altering events, from war, sexual abuse, physical abuse, an unexpected or sudden death. The long-lasting effects of PTSD include constant memories and thoughts of the events. Emotionally it can cause the person to shut down. Stress response syndrome ordinarily occurs due to sudden occurrences. Examples are the loss of a job, a death, failed relationship or divorce, natural disasters. The stressors begin to resolve typically within 6 months after the event has taken place. Besides, there is a Factitious disorder, sexual/ gender disorders, somatic symptom disorders, Tourette’s syndrome. Diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, sleep problems or any other conditions that involve the brain, fall into the mental health condition/ disorder category. Psychosis, borderline personality disorder, and what I found most interesting on another site, was the fact that ADHD and Autism are classified as mental health conditions/ disorders.

Autism Spectrum Disorder:  This includes Asperger’s syndrome. Autism spectrum disorder can be low functioning to high functioning. There is also atypical autism. The three main functionating areas include, but are not limited to behavioral, communitive, and social interactions. Each level holds different tendencies and quite frankly, these individuals are highly intelligent, though they often cannot understand communication such as listening and talking. They appear to zone off into their own world. Sensitivity issues are involved, difficulty with touch can occur, noises, autistic individuals are known to be very eccentric.

Visual Disabilities: Include partial/ complete blindness.

Physical Disabilities: Includes limited, temporary, or permanent mobility, motility, stamina, dexterity. There are many types of physical disabilities. Stemming from other diseases as mentioned above, or autoimmune illnesses, brain trauma, neurological, birth, accidental, etc.

In Conclusion

As you can clearly see based on the above lists of disabilities, it would be very difficult to judge someone or assume which condition they may suffer from. Unless you are a medical professional and you have personally conducted many tests on specific individuals, please STOP the labeling. Please STOP the stereotyping. I have yet to even give a more in-depth view or definitive breakdown of the mental health conditions/ disorders. Trust me, they will shock you!

The next time you call someone retarded, bi-polar, say that they have multiple personalities, assume they are autistic or have ADHD, make sure you know what you are talking about. EVERY single person deals with EVERY single one of these disorders/ disabilities differently. Some friends or family members may be dealing with them now and you do not even recognize it.

Disabilities are NOT always visible, and disabilities are NOT always a death sentence. Disabilities/ disorders do NOT stop individuals from having feelings or wanting to live a normal life. Very few people bring these disabilities upon themselves.

Help break the stereotypes and help stop the labeling of mental health disorders/ disabilities and ALL disabilities. Be kind, you do not know to the extent someone has gone through to get where they are at this moment nor do you know how your words will affect them.

My friends got an 02 Acura RSX 5 speed and he pays like $600/month and the car has some engine mods. We are both 17 except he has a couple tickets. I wouldn't get full coverage on the old car because if it were to wreck i'd just get another as they aren't worth fixing and are a dime a dozen it's not really a rare classic car. Back in April I was driving and a lady tried switching lanes and struck my vehicle. I immediately went to an auto body shop and got an estimate for the damage, they took photos and everything. 21 Tiny Stories for Those Who Have Lost Their Motivation

This morning I didn’t feel like doing anything.  It’s a combination of exhaustion from a few days of hard work and preparation for our upcoming Think Better, Live Better 2018 conference, and a lack of sleep with a sick 3-year-old in the house.

I couldn’t motivate myself to do anything important, which is a rare occurrence for me.  I just felt completely drained.  I started overthinking things and doubting myself, and wondering whether anything I do is worthwhile.

I sat there in this funk for nearly an hour and wondered how to snap out of it.  Should I just forget about today?  Should I just give up on this project in front of me, because I’m not as good at it as I thought I was?

That’s what I was considering, at least for a fleeting moment.  But the better part of me knew this mild state of depression would soon pass.  And just as I started to feel better, a neat bit of synchronicity arrived in my email inbox from Gina, a new course student Marc and I have been coaching over the past few days.  The opening lines of her email read:

“I feel so drained, so uninspired.  I’m stuck again!  My mind is spinning with worry and overwhelm and just a general lack of enthusiasm.  Anything you could share?  What’s something small I could reflect on and try to remember when I’ve lost my motivation?”

With our student’s permission, I’m answering her inquiry publicly because I know we all need a good reminder in this area sometimes—heaven knows I needed one this morning, too.

While there are many approaches to momentary self-motivation, reflecting on and learning from other people’s stories is paramount.  The right story at the right time can move us at our core.  Fortunately, the nature of the work Marc and I do as personal development coaches and authors allows us to hear these kinds of stories from clients, students and readers on a daily basis.  So, this morning, that’s exactly what I was reflecting on when Gina emailed me.  And right now, with full permission from the original sources, I want to share powerful snippets from some of these stories with you.

What follows are super short but incredibly focused accounts of real life, real struggle, and the inner resilience of the human spirit.  There’s definitely something inspiring here for all of us to think about, and tap into, when we need an extra dose of motivation:

“Today marks a full year that I’ve been eating right and working out daily.  This time last year I weighed 301 pounds.  When I saw my weight on the scale at the doctor’s office I knew it was time for a change.  Now, after a year of exercising my will power, and using no dieting pills or gastric bands, or anything artificial, I went back to the doctor’s office for my annual check-up. “172 pounds,” my doctor said.  “You know, your positive lifestyle changes just added roughly 10 years to your life expectancy.”  My 11-year-old daughter, who came with me, grabbed my hand and said, “I look forward to spending those extra years with you, mommy.”

“The drummer in our local jazz band, Nick, is legally deaf, and has been since he was born.  But he can still hear low bass tones and feel the vibrations from the drums and other instruments.  Honestly, he’s such an incredible drummer, most people don’t believe he’s deaf.  Sometimes I can’t believe it myself.”

“This morning, on my 47th birthday, I re-read the suicide letter I wrote on my 27th birthday about two minutes before my girlfriend showed up at my apartment and told me, ‘I’m pregnant.’  She was honestly the only reason I didn’t follow through with it.  Suddenly I felt I had something to live for.  Today she’s my wife, and we’ve been happily married for 19 years.  And my daughter, who is now a 21-year-old college student, has two younger brothers.  I re-read my suicide letter every year on my birthday as a reminder to be thankful—I am thankful I got a second chance at life.”

“I got my acceptance letter and full scholarship to MIT last week.  Now my single mother can use the money she’s been saving diligently for the past 18 years from working three jobs, almost every single day, to give herself the better life she deserves.”

“Today, my company employs 47 intelligent, hard working individuals and turns a net profit of nearly $5 million a year.  I started this company 11 years ago after I was laid off by IBM.  If they hadn’t laid me off, I might still be working in a shared cubicle at IBM’s headquarters.”

“Last night, like he has numerous times over the past three years, my grandfather proposed to my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s and sometimes struggles to remember who he is.”

“At four o’clock this morning I awoke to my daughter calling my name.  I was sleeping on a sofa chair in her hospital room.  I opened my eyes to her beautiful smile.  My daughter has been in a coma for exactly 99 days.”

“My chemo therapy is making me lose chunks of my long strawberry-blonde hair—a physical attribute I’ve always believed made me attractive.  This afternoon I had a cute male nurse shave my head because my hair has become incredibly patchy.  As I was tearing up because it was hard seeing the rest of my hair fall to the floor, the nurse bent down in front of me and sincerely said, ‘Gosh, you have the most beautiful eyes.’”

“It’s been exactly 15 years since I had just a few bucks to my name and could not buy my daughter pens and paper for school.  A local charity stepped in and bought her school supplies and clothes.  Now my daughter has graduated from Yale, started a successful business, and I work for her.  And I’m donating money to that same charity to pay the kindness forward.”

“Last week I interviewed a motel housekeeper in Miami Beach for a side project I’m working on.  ‘Do you like your job?’ I asked.  To my surprise, she smiled from ear to ear and was breathless for a couple seconds.  She finally collected herself and said, ‘I can’t believe how much I love my job!  I get to make dozens of our guests happy every day and feed my two beautiful children at the same time.’”

“A 9-year-old patient of mine will be undergoing her 12th surgery in the past two years to combat a rare form of cancer.  Even after all the surgeries I’ve never seen her frown.  She’s still 100% sure she’ll survive.  And I’m certain her attitude is the primary reason she has survived to this point.  She still laughs and plays with her friends and family.  She has intelligent goals for the future.  A kid like her who can go through everything she’s been through and come out smiling is the reason I wake up and work hard every day.”

“I recently found an old hand-written note my 86-year-old mom wrote when she was just a junior in college.  On it is a list of qualities she hoped she would someday find in man.  The list is basically an exact description of my dad, whom she is still married to today, and whom she didn’t meet until she was 39.”

“I’m a struggling musician, and a bit of a loner based on my ongoing struggles with depression.  I always thought my music career would take me farther than it has.  After a local concert this evening, a teenage boy walked up to me, shook my hand and then hugged me.  He said, ‘Thank you.’  ‘For what?’ I asked.  ‘I’ve been really stressed out lately.  Let’s just say I’m not one of the popular kids at school.  But I have something I look forward to every day.  When I get home from school, and no one is home, I put your two albums on shuffle and sing along as loud as I can,’ he said.”

“Ten years after I had six miscarriages in a row and was told I would never have kids—that my uterus was incapable of holding a baby past twelve weeks—I sat in my 8-year-old son’s bed this morning to wake him for his birthday.  Just sitting there, breathing with him, and knowing that I have my very own version of miracle makes me want to make the best of whatever comes my way, every single day.”

“The homeless man who used to sleep near my condo showed up at my door this afternoon wearing the business suit I gave him over a decade ago.  He said, ‘I have a clean home, a good job, and a family now.  Ten years ago, I wore this business suit to all my job interviews.  Thank you.’”

“Today, my 18-year-old autistic son, Kevin, played guitar and sang every single word, flawlessly, to a song he wrote for his girlfriend (who is also autistic).  He did it in celebration of their two-year dating anniversary.  His girlfriend’s smile lit up the room.  And although my son struggles with a severe speech impediment, he has been practicing for this every single day for the past year, and it paid off beautifully.”

“Yesterday, after completing eight straight months of depression rehab at a live-in treatment center, I spent my first day out with my five-year-old daughter.  We sat on my parent’s front porch all day making construction paper collages.  The sight and sound of my daughter’s laughter and the simple pleasures of cutting construction paper and peeling Elmer’s glue off our hands are the best reminders I’ve had in eight months of why I’m choosing life.”

“I sat down with my two daughters, ages six and eight, this afternoon to explain to them that we have to move out of our four-bedroom house and into a two-bedroom apartment for a year or two until I can find another job and build our savings back up.  It’s a conversation I’ve been avoiding for over a month, as I’ve struggled with the doubts and regrets of not being able to provide a financially stable household for us.  But my daughters just looked at each other after I told them, and then my youngest daughter turned to me and asked, ‘Are we all moving into that apartment together?’  ‘Of course,’ I immediately replied.  ‘Oh, so no big deal then,’ she said.”

“My dad is a blind cancer survivor.  He lost both his eyes when he was in his early thirties to a rare form of cancer.  Despite this, he raised my sister and I, and took care of my mom who was in and out of rehab for alcoholism and depression.  My mom is a fully recovered alcoholic now, my sister and I have graduated college, and my parents are still together and back to being happy.  I’m certain none of this would have been possible if my dad hadn’t been such a resilient, positive force in our lives.  My dad’s inner strength literally lifted our family up in its darkest hours.”

“At 8 A.M. this morning, after nearly four months of lifelessness in her hospital bed, we took my mom off life support.  And her heart continued beating on its own.  And she continued breathing on her own.  Then this evening, when I squeezed her hand three times, she squeezed back three times.”

“My grandpa keeps and old, candid photo on his nightstand of my grandma and him laughing together at some party in the 1970’s.  My grandma passed away from a heart attack in 1999 when I was 14.  This evening when I was at his house, my grandpa caught me staring at the photo.  He walked up, hugged me from behind and said, ‘Remember, just because something doesn’t last forever, doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth your while.’”

Essential Daily Reminders to Think About, Too

I sincerely hope the stories above motivated you think better about your present circumstances.  But, perhaps some of them also reminded you of how you’re falling short.  If it’s the latter, I want you to take a deep breath.

We all need our own time to travel our own distance.

And right now, you just need to keep peaceful, productive thoughts and perspectives centered in your mind, as you take things one step at a time…

Don’t waste your energy fighting against where you are.  Invest your energy into getting to where you want to go.  Let go of everything from the past that does not serve you, and just be grateful it brought you to where you are now—to this new beginning.

Don’t fall back into your old patterns of living just because they’re more comfortable and easier to access.  Remember, you left certain habits and situations behind for a reason: to improve your life.  And right now, you can’t move forward if you keep going back.

You may not be responsible for everything that happened to you when you were younger, and you may not be responsible for everything that happened to you yesterday either, but you need to be responsible for undoing the thinking patterns these circumstances created.  Blaming your past for a limiting mindset does not fix it.  Change your response to what you remember.

When you look back on your past, think of the strength you gained, and appreciate how far you’ve come.  It hasn’t been easy.  You’ve been through a lot.  But you’ve grown a lot too.  Give yourself credit for your resilience, and step forward again with grace.

Too often we spend our time waiting for the ideal path to appear.  But it never does.  Because we forget that paths are made by walking, not waiting.  Now is the time!  And no, you shouldn’t feel more confident and motivated before you take the next step.  Taking the next step is what builds your confidence and motivation, gradually.

Love what you do, until you can do what you love.  Love where you are, until you can be where you love.  Love the people you are with, until you can be with the people you love most.  This is the way we find happiness, opportunity, and peace in the long run.  (We discuss this in more detail in the “Happiness” chapter of our book.)

Ultimately, it’s about letting go of what you assume your life is supposed to be like right now and sincerely appreciating it for everything that it is.  At the end of this day, before you close your eyes, smile and be at peace with where you’ve been and grateful for what you have.  Life is good.
