You could not describe how annoying he could be. He is one of the most intelligent men on hearth and yet, here he is, acting like a stubborn five years old. Why does he think he can hide everything from you? You always have to find out things thanks to the people that work with him.

That morning while you were peacefully reading, you were abruptly interrupted by one of his dearest collaborator: Nikolaj. Working with Fyodor and later having a relationship with him brought you closer to his collaborators, or wathever he thought they were.

"Do you want to know a secret, Y/N? Oh, I'm sure you want. Ask me, come on." He said while walking around you, with his typical smirk. "Of course Nikolaj, tell me. As if you wouldn't tell me anyway..." you replied, annoyed. You learned the hard way that ignoring Gogol was much worse. Most of the time he talked about the dumbest things on hearth, but sometimes having some patience could be very rewarding. He knew so much about Fyodor to the point sometimes you felt jealous.

" Do you want to know why Fyodor, your little dove, your sweet boyfriend, the love of your life, wasn't in your bed last night? Do you want know? He's sick, very very sick. Poor Fyodor..."

Jumping around he revealed to you why your boyfriend had being ignoring you all day. Of course he was sick. And obviously he thought he could hide it from you. Like always. You still weren't sure if he felt unbeatable or if he just never grew out "the doctor fear". But it wasn't only this. He never asked you for your help, he never told you when something is wrong. And you tried to understand all of this, but it hurted. Being always left out hurted.

"Poor Fyodor all alone, without his beloved." He cried out, having the time of his life, looking at your worried and annoyed face. Fyodor wasn't the healthiest man, even a fever was hard for him Especially because he never wanted to rest as you suggested. But he was also a grown up men and seeing him acting like a child was annoying. It wasn't difficult to read on your face you irritation.

"Oh, he was a very bad boy. Go and scold him, Y/N. Why don't you spank him like the child he his?" The clown continued with is rumbling. He found your relationship very amusing. He loved more than anything watching you and Fyodor fighting. He clapped his hands when you first slapped Fyodor, he cheared when Fyodor grabbed you by the shoulders and scolded you.

"Sure Nikolaj, if you want to see me dead. But really" you added whispering, leaving the room "He would deserve that."

Fyodor and you had already had some big fights about his health. He never thought about resting or taking a break. He could go for days without a proper meal. The only problem with fights was the fact that getting Fyodor angry isn't the smartest idea. Obviously you were right, he even admitted it, but the times you risked your life for this..

It happened more than one time that fights between you ended in a violent way. And sometimes while you felt his digits pressing around your neck, you saw in his eyes the desire to end everything. You know how dangerous his hands are: a touch can mean your death.

Before entering in his office you had to calm down a bit. You had to remind to yourself that your relationship is not a normal one.

"Fedya, someone told me you are not feeling to well." You sweetly said walking towards him. You gently kissed his forehead feeling him burning for the fever: oh, how bad you wanted to start screaming at him, ordering him to rest immediately.

"Dear, you're burning. Don't you think..." He abruptly interrupted you, harshly telling you he was fine, you didn't need to worry. "And now go away y/n, you know I hate when you interrupt me." He said to end the conversation.

He looked very pale, more than usual, and from the way he was squinting his eyes you could tell how tired he was. But asking him to rest would have just meant having you two fighting. But you were his girlfriend, not a common woman. You were with him for a reason. Probably a normal person would have never thought what you were thinking at the moment. And a normal person would have never been in a relationship with Fyodor for sure.

"Sure Fyodor, I know and I am sorry, but I was a bit worried. Would you mind if I bring you a tea? I know you wouldn't rest, but maybe it can help." You softly whispered in his ear, while gently massaging his shoulders. He liked when you were this gentle, but more than anything he liked when you did as you were told. "If you think a tea can help, fine. Even though I doubt it. But sure, if that can you make you happy..."

He was smart, and definitely, he was smarter than you. But this gave you a great advantage: he thought he could easily manipulate you. And yes, I was true, you found your self multiple times doing things you would have never done otherwise, but those other times, when you were able to understand his plan, outsmarting him was much easier. Because let's be honest: you were a manipulator too.

So no, he didn't suspect a thing while drinking his tea. He just thought that finally his girlfriend ha learnt not to fight him. He didn't even noticed you, standing in the back of the office. Only when his eyes started to get heavier, he realised that something was wrong. That his beloved, his darling, his love had just drugged him.

Getting closer, you carefully took the cup out of his weak heand and gently pushed him down on his chair. "Oh Fedya, don't make that face. It's for your own good. I did it because I love you and it's painful to see you in pain." You said with a soft smile, caressing his hair. "You understand, I love you, I was worried. It was the only way to have you resting, my love." But you couldn't do anything else but gasping when his hand firmly grabbed your wrist.

"You... I trusted you. I thought you could be smart enough not to do this... If when I wake up sometimes went wrong, you're dead. Dead. And you know I'm not kind with traitors. So you better start praying." His last words were nothing but whispers. And even if you barley heard them, you know he was saying the truth. But it was to late to regret your choice.

Using all you strength you took him to bed, took off some of his clothes and closed the curtains. He looked so normal while sleeping, and yet you were ready to bet that in his dreams he was plotting against the world. You wanted to seat next to him, but you knew better. All you did was leaving a soft kiss on his dry lips.

Walking towards his office, fear started to take over you. This wasn't like the other times. What you did was an actual betrayal. And what follows a betrayal is a big fight that ends with him slapping you while ordering you to get away from his sight. What follows a betrayal is an execution.

And sitting in front of the monitors, you started praying.

He wants to show off his master detective skills to impress you.

He goes with his uniform (i think their uniforms) after a case. And you go dressed not knowing you kinda look like a detective too (like a coat, uh think sherlock? But casual) and he gets excited.

Sam: "Oh my god, you look like a detective too, we can be like sherlock and Watson! ... can... can I call you DR.Y/N while we're here?"

He talks out loud about his thought process and he takes into consideration your point of view, Oh? You think we should check the lamp? Of course, do the clues correlate with the wall? Sure lets try that"

At some point he thought about the shandelier in the room but it was too high, so he asked you to sit on his shoulders to boost you up cus he's strong💪

Now having his head being squished in between your thighs awakened a new desire.

Once getting the note you read it out but he ain't listening, your thighs are mulling the sound.

Y/n:"6 the clocks strikes at night, sven barks at the pen covered in the corpses of hens. What do you think Detective snow?"

Sam:".... oh- I'm sorry repeat that?"

You moved the clocks hands to 6:07 and then a drawer comes out with a chicken constelation pen.

Sam theought the whole duration has been chearing you on being a detective. He wont baby you so your doing your part on your own.

At some point you two get stuck but then sam notices the pin on the cork board arent removable, and made click sounds.

At that moment you realize a rezenmblance of the corkboard and the pattern on the pen.

Y/n:"Detective Snow, how about we make the constelation on the cork board"

The prize were stickers, a t-shirt and you could also keep the pen.

You two went to a small coffee shop to wind down.

You and Kit bump into the Howler Monkey Resort and decide to get a meal before heading back.

While waiting on your food in comes detective philip night. Who says a quick hello,

Philip:"Detective Kit Casey, what brings you here brings you and your ...new friends?"

Kit:"Oh hey Philip, their Y/n, and this is our first date!"

Once you two finish your meals you head back to R.O.N. and you start getting sleepy.

He decided to take you on a picnic, cus 1.he loves nature and there's a nice spot near where he lives 2. His mom told him "the best way to someones heart is through their stomach" so what better than to eat outside with his moms famous blueberry buckle

He told you he would be a bit late because something came up and that he will get there as soon as posible.

You go and prepare the picnic blanket when you see something in the sky, is it a bird, is it a plane? It later answered-

You didn't get out of the way on time and he crash lands on you.

Wally:"Ofcourse not, I fell for you after all haha... you didn't get hurt did you?"

After he gets off of you, the date officially starts, luckily nothing in his basket got ruined. His mom taught him how to wrap and store his lunch for him to transport it while flying.

You two talked about a lot of diferent things with him and heard as he talked about how good the food you made was.

He took it as you also trying to get to his heart through his stomach and that made him feel all warm and fuzzy.

You also discovered that he's also a really good cook, all the food in his bag look straight out of instagram.

If you can fly, he would show you a bunch of cool stuff around, if not he will try to find a way so that you can, or look for stuff on the ground.

His mom would sometimes interrupt but you didn't mind, she sounded lovely and what are you to say to not let him answer his mother.

Ms.Bungler:" Wally honey, have you seen my slippers?"

Wally:"Mom not now im on a date"

He would apologize but you would reassure him its fine

At some point you had to cut the date short because he got a distress call from .... a cuckoo bird?

Wally:"Junior Ranger Doli? Whats wrong?"

Doli:"cuckooo!"

Wally:"mom?!"

Wally:"disappeared?!"

He was gonna end the date short and you understood, but you were now worried about his mom, and you want to help find his mom.

He accepts the help ofcourse, him leading you to his home, and three cuckoo birds flying around the place looking for the woman.

After a bit of screaming her name you find a locked bathroom door, you knock but only hear snores from the other side.

You ofcourse call Wally and he bangs on the door calling for his mom. Then you hear her wake up with splashes, she fell asleep taking a bath.

After a bit she got out fully dresed and greets you.

Now you can finally eat Ms.Bunglers famous Blueberry Buckle but OH NO! the junior nature rangers ate it already!

Usually, when Wally finishes work he sometimes brings food for them, so the junior rangers thought it was for them. When they realized their mistake the cood apologetically.

But dont worry! Ms.Bungler will bake a new one! With the help of Wally, his Kids junior rangers, AND YOU!

Ms.Bungler prepared the kettle then started baking with everyone, and it was an absolute blast!

The date ended with you huddled uo on the couch with Wally and his junior rangers fast asleep and Ms.Bungler covering you all with a blanket.

Sleepless

Sleep. You really needed it but with so much paperwork on your desk, you didn’t had time for that in the last few days and it was clearly showing. Not only did your partner commented on it but a few of your friends did too. Even Levi said that you looked like a walking corpse and that coming from mister insomnia was not a good sight.

With a light shake of your head you tried to focus on your work again but your mind had other plans. Not sleeping for roughly three days meant also no cuddling with Hange. You didn’t even saw them for more then a few minutes every day because you both had always something to do. It was getting frustating and you missed them. You couldn’t even kiss them in the mess hall where you had your meals together because nobody knows about your relationship yet.

Hange confessed a few month ago and you coudn’t have been happier. You had a crush on them from the first time you laid eyes on them and how could you not? They are everything you ever wanted and more. So when they sat in front of you that day and pouring their heart out, all you could do was stare at them, thinking that this had to be a dream. As you didn’t answer them, they started apologyzing but before they could say one more word, your lips were already on theirs, knocking them right out of their chair and onto the ground. Both of you laughing like crazy.

You smiled at the memory and decided that it was enough, you needed sleep and you needed Hange to cuddle and kiss you. The chair creaked and scratched over the floor as you stood up and started stretching. Like always when you were doing paperwork time flew by and you realized that the sun was already replaced by the moon. You quickly went to Erwins office to give him the papers you’ve already completed. You knock lightly on his door not sure if he is already asleep but soon you heard his voice saying: “Come in”. As you open the door he look's up from his desk and says:”Ah hello captain, what can I do for you?” “I have finished most of the papers, Commander and just wantetd to bring them to you and tell you that the rest will follow tomorrow.” You hand him the papers and he nods in approval. “Thank you, Captain. Can I give you some advice? Don’t overwork youreslf. I know being a Captain is not easy and really much work but you are doing good, so try to step back a little and go to sleep. That’s an order. Levi is right you look like the walking dead." You are touched and a bit hurt by his words. Do you really look that bad? You thank him and quikly left his room to go and search for your lover.

Hange. Your sleep deprieved brain can only think about one name. Bearly keeping you on your feet. Then you hear a laugh and a voice that you could pinpoint over thousands of others. Hange. It's like you are on autopilot just following the angelic sound that is their voice. Your legs bring you into the mess hall where your lover, Levi, his squad, Miche and Nanaba are sitting at a big table.

Your eyes were glued to the crazy scientist telling a story about how they catched their first titan and that is the point where the little bit of selfcontrol you still had went up in flames as your brain shut down completly and your body moved on it’s own accord. Walking straight to were Hange is sitting. As soon as they see you, their whole face lit up and they open their mouth to greet you but before one word can leave their lips you already plopped down onto them and into their lap. Face buried in the croock of their neck inhaling the smell that was purley Hange. They always smelled like old books, the forest, weird chemicals and ever so faintly like flowers. As their strong arms wrap around your waist, pressing you more into their warm bodie you finally feel home, already falling asleep.

Hange:

Hange is confused and just stares at the top of your head for a second, before smiling widley and wrapping their arms around the already sleeping form that is their girlfriend. As they look back up they see in many grinning and amused faces. “Heh, surprise?” Levi furrows his eyebrows “How long?” Hange swallows: “A few...months.” “MONTHS??” Is the collective answer from the people around the table. “I can’t believe neither of you told us anything!” Nanaba says, clearly hurt. “Okay first of all shhhh!!! Don’t wake her up, she is sleeping for the first time in three days and second I’m sorry we didn’t said anything. We wanted to keep our relationship for us, just a little bit before everyone starts talking about it. You all know the kids, they are bored and just want something they can think about that has nothing to do with fighting titans and death and they love gossip, so of course they would talk about one of the captains going out with one of the section commanders. We just wanted a bit peace and quiet before that happens and to see if we work out but that worked so yay?” After Hange explained everyone sat their silently, thinking about it and they all come to the same conclousion: they are right, people would talk and they would get stares maybe even some comments and a fresh relationship didn’t need that. Petra speaks first: “We understand. You are right. Even if it hurts a bit we have to accept that this was your choice and we can’t judge you for that. We are just happy that you guys finally found eachother and that you both are happy, right?” Everyone nods and Miche ads: “And if someone is rude to the both of you we will chear you on when you end them.” Hange smiles teary “Thank you guys so much. We can talk tomorrow about it. I bet you all have questions but right now I better get this one into bed and make sure she doesn’t get up for at least 12 hours. Good Night and love you all.” They all chuckeld, nodded and said their good nights to the pair. Hange slowly stands up, carryng their sleeping lover to their room.

After cearfullly laying you down on the bed and changing your clothes from your uniform into one of their shirts Hange turns to quietly leave but a hand on their wrist and a small voice wispering “Please don’t go” stops them. They smile, step out of their clothes and slip in bed right next to their girlfriend, who is already cuddled up on them sighing contently. Hange wraps their arms around you again and can’t help the big smile that comes to their face. They kiss your temple, caress your back and think about how much they love their girl as they slowly fall asleep too.

It was a cool spring morn. I walked into the wood to gather herbs for supper. I was just about finished when a familiar sent caught my attention. "Jamie but what is he doing in the woods. We have enough meats for days." I said to myself as I follow the sent. When I get there I spot a fellow which's familiar. It was about to attack him. I didn't have time to banish it. I walked into the skin of a wolf taking down the fowl creature. I growl a banishing spell. In a puff of black smoke it disappeared. Jamie walked twords me. I had to keep up the appearance of a wolf. I ran in the direction of my basket. When I got there I changed back. "I wish I could tell you." I said picking up my basket. "Tell me what that your a witch? Lass I have known for a while. " Iris looks at him scared. "When did you find out?" I asked ready to run at any time. "when I first came to live at Leod. A morn like this an animal was gonna have me for a meal. A large brown wolf attacked it and disappeared in a puff of smoke. Iris I saw you then and said nothing. I want to know why you lass saved me. Why waist your energy for me? I could have you taken to the authorities and burned." I started to shake. "I saved you the first time because you been threw enough. I saved you this time because I am in love with you." I said tears streaming down my cheeks. What he did next shocked me. His arms were around me as his lips met my own. Jamie took me before Colum. "I wish to take this woman as my bride." He said making everyone whisper amongst themselves. "Jamie you have a price on your head. Are you sure you want to do this?" Colum asked worried for me. "I have written a letter to the king. I have sketches of Jamie's back witness testimony and othe accounts on what happened. Cousin the way this man endured was horrible." I said taking Jamie's hand in mine. "Let us pray what you did will work. I accept this union." He said making the others chear and congratulate us.

Snow has blanket the ground. The maids were getting my dress on me. Colum wiped tears away. "You look just as beautiful as your mother did. It's been five years since her passing. She wanted you to have this on your wedding day." He said handing me a box. "Is it what I think it is" I ask opening it to reveal my mother's hair pin. Tear stream down my cheeks. "Oh Lass no tears on this day." Colum said holding me. "I miss her so much." I said handing him the pin. "As do I Lass she was a good woman. I see her every day you know." I was confused as he placed the pin. "I see her in you Lass. You will make a fine wife for Jamie. He won't step a toe out of line. Your going to make him regret it." He said stepping infront of me. He smiled at me warmly. "Lets go they're waiting for the bride." He walks me into the court room of the castle. Colum left me at the entrance so Jamie could come get me. The day went well that was till one of our own brought a ill dressed English woman named Claire. I saw the way she was looking at Jamie. Oh no this English pig can go somewhere else. "My lord sorry but she would not let me show her to a room. I tried to tell her that a wedding was taking place but she didn't want to listen." Angus said. "Like the English wasnt to ruin everything. But not on my day!" I yelled grabbing her arm dragging her to the door before tossing her out. "You will wait your turn English Pig!" I said before slamming the door. After the vows were exchanged Claire was brought back in.

The Bonds of the Revolutionaries

For day 24 of Villain Month. The prompt is “Bonds.” This is the about farthest in the timeline of my Villain!Izuku AU I feel comfortable writing in just now.

Izuku woke up to the sound of his door slamming open.

“Big Bro!”

“Izuku!”

He cracked his eyes open. “Eri, Kota, what is it?”

“Big Sis Uraraka made breakfast,” Eri said.

“She sent us to get you before it got too cold,” Kota explained.

Izuku chuckled. “Message received. I still need to get dressed, so you two should head down and make sure the others don’t eat it all."

The two kids nodded and left the room, closing the door behind them. Ever since Eri moved in with the Quirk Revolutionaries, the other members had done everything they could to make the girl more comfortable. Once Izuku rescued Kota from the League, they collectively decided to treat him similarly.

It kind of made the hideout more like a home, and the other members more like family.

Izuku got dressed in his usual stay-at-home clothes, jeans and a T-shirt. Within a few minutes he was descending the stairs to the sound of everyone eating.

Toga was the first to notice him. “Izukun!”

“You made it just in time,” Spinner said. “Dabi was about to take the last salmon slice.”

“I was not,” Dabi protested. “I was just making sure Shoto had gotten his fill.”

Shoto rolled his eyes. “Like I told you already, you don’t need to baby me.”

“I for one think it’s cute,” Uraraka said. “Dabi may not admit it, but he has a very strong protective instinct.”

Eri nodded. “When Uncle Dabi is around, I feel safe knowing he won’t let anyone hurt me.”

Kota scowled. “Just don’t go overboard. I’m not helpless, you know.”

“Uh-huh,” Dabi reached over to pat Kota on the head. “Just keep telling yourself that, kid.”

Kota didn’t like that, so he tried to grab Dabi’s arm and pin it down. What resulted was more akin to a plafight than an actual brawl, especially since Dabi only used enough force to keep the kid frustrated. The whole table, as well as Izuku, erupted into laughter.

Uraraka was the only one interested in breaking them up. “Come on guys, save that for training. Sit down so we can finish eating, then you can wrestle.”

Izuku sat down at the last open chair, between Eri and Shoto. Uraraka had prepared a very traditional breakfast with rice, miso soup, grilled salmon, natto, and tamagoyaki. Most of the others were halfway through the food, and Toga was already reaching for seconds. If he didn’t start eating soon, Izuku wouldn’t get to eat his fill. He dug in with gusto.

A few minutes later, Spinner looked up from his food and asked, “What’s on our schedule for today?”

“Well, that all depends on what the bossman wants,” Dabi turned to Izuku expectantly.

“I still don’t like being called that.” Despite the fact that everyone turned to Izuku for the hard decisions, he didn’t see himself as the leader of their group. He thinks of the Quirk Revolutionaries as a group of people united by a common goal, and he just happens to be the strategizer. “Nonetheless, I do have some recommendations for training. Dabi, Shoto, you both need to work on your hand-to-hand combat abilities without your quirks.”

Shoto frowned. “Why would we need to work on that?”

“Your quirks are very powerful, but you may not always be in an environment where you can use them effectively,” Izuku explained. “I’ll admit that it is more likely to happen to Dabi than you, but it can still happen.”

Shoto chewed on a clump of rice, thoughtful. “You have a point. If we end up against someone like Mr. Aizawa, I wouldn’t be able to use my ice or my fire.”

Izuku nodded. “I’ll work with you guys tomorrow, but Spinner already knows the basics and I’d like to work with Eri a little bit.”

“Want me to help too, Izukun?” Toga asked.

Izuku put a piece of fish in his mouth, considering Toga’s offer. “Maybe… but it would be a good idea for you to go on a supply run first. Do we need anything around the house?”

“We’re almost out of groceries,” Uraraka said. “I’ll come up with a list of essentials once we’ve cleaned up.”

“Last night I noticed the laundry detergent was almost gone,” Izuku admitted. “Add that to the list.”

Eri fidgeted in her seat. “Um, can I ask for something selfish?”

“Of course cutie, you can ask us for anything,” Toga gave a toothy smile that would have been creepy in any other setting.

“Ca-Can I get another stuffed toy?” Eri asked. “Kota keeps borrowing Mr. Bunny at night. I don’t mind, but I miss cuddling with something so soft. Pillows just aren't the same.”

Kota’s face was bright red. “You weren’t supposed to tell anyone about that!”

It was like she was reliving her teenage years. You would always chear and encourage your mother , while on the other hand , your brother would say how he doesn't want to bring his hopes up especially since he hasn't even met the guy yet, that is ofcourse understandable you also had your doubts but seeing your mother happy was more than enough to put all wories aside for the time being . One day , your mother finally said that ''today is the day you meet him''That same day you also found out that Chansung , aka Mr Park , aka your mum's boyfriend, isn't that much of a stranger. He used to be your mother's neighbour for a few years, the two of them even had the same friends , and around all thouse friendship reunions your mother went to, they met again .So 2years ago on your mother's birthday you finally met Mr Park ....

Nearly 50% of parents and grandparents clash over raising kids

For some families, disagreements over parenting choices and enforcing parents’ rules can cause major strife between a child’s parents and grandparents, a national poll suggests.

Nearly half of parents describe arguments with one or more grandparent about their parenting, with one in seven going so far as to limit the amount of time their child sees certain grandparents.

Disputes most commonly involve discipline, meals, and TV/screen time. Other thorny subjects: manners, safety and health, bedtime, treating some grandchildren differently than others, and sharing photos or information on social media.

“Grandparents play a special role in the lives of many children and can be an important resource for parents through support, advice, and babysitting. But they may have different ideas about the best way to raise the child and that can cause tension,” says Sarah Clark, co-director of the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health at Michigan Medicine.

“If grandparents contradict or interfere with parenting choices, it can have a serious strain on the relationship,” says Mott, who is also a research scientist with the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center (CHEAR).

For the nationally representative survey, researchers received 2,016 responses from parents of children ages 18 and under.

Discipline mismatch between parents and grandparents

Among parents who report major or minor disagreements, 40% say grandparents fit the classic mold of being too soft on the child. But 14% say grandparents are too tough. Nearly half of parents say disagreements arise from both styles.

“Parents may feel that their parental authority is undermined when grandparents are too lenient in allowing children to do things that are against family rules, or when grandparents are too strict in forbidding children to do things that parents have okayed,” Clark says.

Many social norms around parenting have changed over the years, and grandparents may not be aware of current standards for how children speak or dress. In addition, parents now make decisions that grandparents did not face, such as when and where children use cell phones and other electronic devices.

Parents may want to explain to children why grandparents don’t always follow the family rules, Clark says. When grandparents are being too lenient, this can be as simple as saying something like, “Grandma and Grandpa don’t get to see you very often, so they like to pack all the fun things into a short visit.”

But it can be trickier when grandparents are too harsh. Parents should first look for a way to calmly but firmly speak out to the grandparent, so the child feels supported. Later, parents can offer a longer explanation to the child, such as, “When Grandma and Grandpa were your age, this is what parents did when children misbehaved. We don’t do that in our family, but sometimes Grandma and Grandpa forget that things have changed.”

The generational divide in parenting

“That’s not how we did things and you survived,” may be a common refrain for some grandparents who raised children when there were fewer research-based recommendations around parenting, such as car seats, introduction of new foods, spanking, screen time, and sleep safety.

But when it comes to safety and health, parents may need take a hard stance. It may be helpful to point to newer research on children’s health, such as putting babies to sleep on their back, wearing helmets while riding bikes and scooters, and using age- and size-appropriate car seats.

“Grandparents may have a hard time understanding why parenting and medical advice has changed so much since they raised children,” Clark says.

She recommends parents consider inviting grandparents to a pediatrician visit or sharing articles from parenting magazines or websites to help grandparents feel more up-to-date and involved.

Setting boundaries

Many families rely on grandparents for childcare and especially in these cases, parents should talk about expectations from the start.

They should decide what their deal breakers are (i.e. car seats, food choices) and be clear with grandparents that these are non-negotiable.

“When you hire an outside babysitter, it’s straightforward to discuss parenting rules. With family there are different dynamics; you’re worried about hurting Grandma’s feelings,” Clark says.

“It may be more convenient to avoid the hard conversations when you’re asking for help. But if you don’t set clear boundaries from the beginning, it’s much harder to correct later and can build mutual resentment.”

Unsolicited advice may also feel like stepping over the line when it happens often or in a critical way.

Parents may respond with telling them they appreciate their expertise or, “I know you may see it differently, but I’d appreciate it if you would do it this way when you’re watching the kids. It’s important to us.”

Finding common ground

Parents also need to be flexible in some areas. Occasionally letting grandparents bend the rules may be OK depending on how often they see them and as long as children are still safe and in a healthy environment.

Clark notes that while consistency is usually helpful in parenting, it’s fine to make exceptions for special situations, or special people.

“Some grandparents look forward to the chance to ‘spoil’ grandkids and enjoy being ‘softies,'” Clark says. “They may see this as a rite of passage and part of what makes the relationship special.”

“Obviously there are extreme cases where differing styles may be problematic, especially if they affect children’s behavior at home. If so, families should address these issues. But it’s also OK if grandparents don’t do everything the same way as parents.”

Resolving conflicts

At times, the issue of grandparents flouting family rules may become too big for parents to ignore. But grandparents’ receptivity to being asked to conform to parenting choices and household rules may vary from family to family, the Mott Poll finds.

When disagreements about parenting have occurred, 43% parents have asked a grandparent to change their behavior. And nearly half of these parents say grandparents complied.

Another 36% of parents report that a grandparent agreed to the change, but did not follow through while 17% say grandparents outright refused their request.

“Whether grandparents cooperated with a request or not was strongly linked to parents’ description of disagreements as major or minor,” Clark says. “The bigger the conflict, the less likely grandparents seemed to budge.”

And when grandparents refused such requests, parents were more likely to put limits on the amount of time their child spent with them, according to the poll.

“Parents and grandparents may not always see eye to eye on parenting but if conflicts aren’t resolved, no one wins,” Clark says. “Parents who had major disagreements with grandparents were also likely to feel that the conflicts had a negative impact on the relationship between the child and the grandparent.

“Our findings indicate that grandparents should strive to understand and comply with parent requests to be more consistent with parenting choices—not only to support parents in the difficult job of raising children, but to avoid escalating the conflict to the point that they risk losing special time with grandchildren.”

Hey there so when i turn 18, im buying a 2003 nissan 350z with my own money. Right now im 17 and have been driving an old civic for almost the past 2 years and have never gotten in an accident or ticket (not that that lowers the insurance at all) and have the good student discount. so i followed the rule of thumb to buying a car thats okay to beat up when you first start driving. anyways, ive been looking for a lot of answers to my question, but all of the people asking it seem to be paying for theyre own insurance. Cheat Meal? Chear Meal!

I had one hell of a cheat meal yesterday. French fries with mayo AND some delicious green apple ice cream after.

Facts: 1) it tasted amazing, but not as good as I remembered 2) I do not feel guilty about it. At all.

Best thing: it left me completely satisfied and I am not craving for more. On the contrary: by allowing myself to have that outrageous dinner, I feel more motivated to eat healthy. Survey: Parents aren’t sure about school in the fall

Two-thirds of parents responding to a new survey say they will likely send all of their children back to school this fall.

As lawmakers and educators reimagine the K-12 model for fall, the new survey assesses parents’ plans for in-person school and support for 15 potential measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 in schools in Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio.

Most parents in the survey said they support safety measures, including decreasing the number of children on buses, daily temperature screens for students, alternating between in-person and online classes, regular testing of school staff, and requiring school staff and older children to wear masks.

The report, which the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center (CHEAR) at the University of Michigan published, included 1,193 parents of school-aged children in the three states who were surveyed from June 12-22.

“We have no family to babysit and do not have the funds to hire a babysitter if the kids stay home. If one of us has to stay home to watch them we will likely lose our house.”

“Families are facing a challenging decision regarding whether to send their children to school for in-person classes in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says lead author Kao-Ping Chua, a pediatrician and researcher at Michigan Medicine CS Mott Children’s Hospital, CHEAR, and the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, which funded the report.

“On the one hand, sending children to school could increase the risk of COVID-19 among children and family members. On the other hand, children who don’t return to in-person school may experience disruptions in their education. Some families simply don’t have a choice because they need to go to work.”

Parents’ plans on sending their children to school were similar between each state but varied by demographic factors. Respondents who were Black, Hispanic, or Asian were less likely to report that they will send all of their children to school compared with respondents who were white/non-Hispanic.

Parents from low-income households were the least likely to report that they will send all of their children to school, with 40% reporting that they are unsure of their plans or are not planning on sending at least one of their children.

“The disparity by household income raises the possibility of potential educational disruption among less advantaged students,” Chua says.

“Efforts should especially be made to understand and address barriers to school attendance for these students, and to ensure high-quality education for students who do not attend school in-person.”

COVID-19 safety for school this fall

The survey revealed strong support for a number of measures to reduce COVID-19 exposure risk at school. Three-quarters of parents supported daily temperature screens of students and requiring testing of children if a classmate tests positive for COVID-19.

More than 60% of parents supported decreasing the number of children on buses, alternating groups of children between in-person and virtual classes, staggering arrival and pick-up times, and random weekly COVID-19 testing for staff. Half supported random weekly COVID-19 testing of children and requiring children to eat meals in classrooms rather than cafeterias.

Most parents supported requiring face masks for school staff and middle and high school students, but were less likely to support requiring face masks for younger children, especially kindergarten through second grade.

Support was low for closing playground structures and stopping all extracurricular programs.

Overall, the average parent supported or strongly supported eight of the 15 measures assessed in the survey. While this number was lower in some demographic groups, three-quarters of parents supported four or more measures.

“Preferences for the number and types of measures vary among parents,” Chua says. “But they broadly agree with the notion that schools should take steps to keep children as safe as possible.”

Difficult choices

Of the parents in the survey, 12% indicated they will likely not send at least one of their children to school in fall, with health concerns being the biggest factor. Respondents were less likely to say their children would attend in-person school if they believe someone in their home has a condition that increases the risk of severe COVID-19 illness.

But many feel that the in-person school experience is best for their kids.

“I feel like (my child) gets a better education in person. I want her to be able to go to school where she can directly interact with teachers,” one Michigan parent said.

Of the parents, 21% said they weren’t sure yet about school attendance plans. Many are waiting to see how the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, while others are waiting to hear more about their schools’ plans.

“If the schools here decide to open, then that will mean we are trending in a favorable direction as far as the virus is concerned. I trust the local school districts to make the best decision based on their staff/cleaning/knowledge of the situation,” a parent from Illinois wrote.

Many respondents also indicated they had little choice to send children to school due to jobs and financial constraints.

“We have no family to babysit and do not have the funds to hire a babysitter if the kids stay home. If one of us has to stay home to watch them we will likely lose our house,” one Ohio respondent said.

Many families indicated that a surge in COVID-19 cases would cause them to reconsider plans for sending children to school. Others would likely reconsider based on the safety strategies implemented in schools or the type of educational experience their children might have.

Governors across the country are working with educators to develop plans to safely open school. As these plans are announced, Chua believes it will be important to continue to survey parents regarding their plans and support for COVID-19 risk mitigation measures.

“In our survey, parents expressed a lot of uncertainty regarding their plans for school attendance,” he says.

“Many are waiting to see how schools address safety and how the pandemic evolves. It’s very likely that parents’ views and plans will change as new information becomes available.”
