drew tanaka head canons because i think she could be a really cool character
• works in the infirmary as a sort of secretary, does filing and paperwork for patients , also knows basic first aid
• will say that she hates this job but she really doesn’t mind it
• + the infirmary is a hotspot for gossip in chb, and she lives for the drama
• going off of that she’s also really close to will
• after the battle of manhattan they bonded over
being thrust into cabin counselor at a young age and their aversion to physical fighting
• they eventually date at one point but drew realizes that she doesn’t like men and unintentionally breaks wills heart completing the Aphrodite rite of passage
•will is the only one who knows she’s gay and they’re still really close
• she wants to be a hair dresser, and does year rounders hair cuts when they need them
•the behavior we see in TLH is a consequence of selina’s death, and her not knowing how to process it
• still hasn’t forgiven selina
• she is actually a good cabin counselor, and virtually still is with how much piper is away from camp
•because she doesn’t fight her role when battles are happening are to watch over the campers that are too young to fight
•while baby sitting she can’t help but thinking that all of them are too young to fight, but what can you do?
idk i just feel like she could be so much more then the one dimensional character we see

He’d pulled out the decorations as soon as the calendar had turned to October and by now, she was used to the way her home would be taken over.
And honestly, while it had been a little much when she had first started dating him, now she loved how he looked at these holidays, how special he made it for her and their kids.
She’d kissed him goodbye that morning and headed into the office to tackle whatever fires she had to put out.
They would decorate when she got home but she knew he would make a start, wouldn’t be able to help himself.
It was lunchtime when she grabbed coffee and a sandwich between phonecalls, meetings with her detectives and the mountain of paperwork that she had a minute to call.
She set her food out on her desk, propped her phone up and hit Facetime so she could also see her babies, She was greeted by the sight of a grinning Reece looking at the camera.
“Tell Mommy boo,” she heard her husband say.
She laughed. “What did you do to my son?”
“He crawled in there himself,” Castle insisted.
“Into the costume too?” She made faces at her baby and was happy to see him grinning and reaching for the phone. “What did Daddy do, huh? Where’s your brother? Did he flee and leave you to fend for yourself, huh peanut?”
The camera moved and she saw Jake was asleep in a pill of pumpkin pillows that had traditionally gone up in Alexis’ room this time of year.
“Alexis is gonna have a fight on her hands this year,” Castle joked and turned the camera so she could see him. “The boys and I are organising everything so when you get home we can have fun putting everything up.”
“Don’t lose them,” she teased and spent her lunch break talking to her husband and her babies.

Fictober #18: Rescue
She was trying to pay attention to what Lanie was telling her about their victim but she could see him fussing off to the side. When Lanie had told her all that she could and Ryan and Espo caught her up with what they’d gleaned from the scene and witnesses, she walked over to her husband who had been entirely focused by something at the side of the alley
“I found this cat,” he said, crouching down and stroking his new feline friend. “I was looking for a tag or something. Looks like a stray.”
“Okay, I can call that in,” Beckett told him. “Someone will come by and get it somewhere warm and with food.”
“Or we could just take it home,” He looked at her with pleading eyes. “Our place is warm and has food.”
Kate regarded him. “What is it with you and animals, Castle?” She huffed. “Babe, we can’t take a cat off the street. What if he’s lost and someone’s looking for him?”
“We could name him Binx,” Castle continued. “That’s a good Halloween name. Hopefully those mean witches aren’t after you, huh?”
“No it’s not Castle,” Kate told him. “We can’t keep him. Her. Whatever. We have a case to solve. The victim is right there,” Kate pointed a thumb over her shoulder. “Are you coming with me?”
He sighed. He understood what she was saying. “Give me a second.”
She watched him walk up to an officer keeping people back at the police tape, cat tucked in his arms and returned to Lanie but now she was watching him out the corner of her eye. Saw him disappear under the tape and into the crowd of spectators.
“Where’s writer boy going?”
Kate sighed. “I think he’s smuggling a cat home.”
Lanie laughed at her. “You gonna let him get away with that?”
Kate shrugged. “I got one murder to solve before committing another.”
“Maybe not,” Lanie nodded her head and Kate turned to see her husband heading back towards her.
“Turns out Binx is a Mittens,” He told her. “Hastings told me there was a little girl asking about it. Thank God she didn’t get this far down before police cordened the place off.”
Kate looked back into the crowd, at where her husband had found the cat. “Wow.”
“Yeah, she was dressed as the cutest little witch. She was trick-or-treating with her parents. Had Mittens out in a pull wagon and he ran off. Anyway, what do we have here?”
Kate smiled at the man beside her. He had the biggest heart and though she knows he was dead serious about keeping the cat, she’s glad that he got to save the day for that little girl.
“Come on cat rescuer, I’ll catch you up on the way to the 12th.”
Prompt: Coming across a black cat on Halloween

Fictober #22: Watching Over You
Post Series
She couldn’t sleep. She couldn’t. Every time she closed her eyes she saw it. Him. Lying there.
She had been getting better. Maybe it was just the time of year. The images of serial killers, blood and gore, it was getting to her. And they had an amazing time. Hunkered down with Alexis, bowls of popcorn, the gummy bears she’d started craving and every type of M&M she didn’t even know they made.
And her husband was sleeping. And she was not. And neither was their daughter. She was doing acrobats and Kate just couldn’t get comfortable.
She climbed out of bed, grabbed the robe that only just covered her bump and hoped that walking around might quiet calm her child and clear her head long enough.
Walking into his office, she froze, a figure was watching her but when she grabbed moved towards a light and their gun safe, it was gone.
She felt like someone was there. She’d seen someone. She’d definitely.
“Katie,” she heard.
“Mom?”
She walked through his office, her senses on high alert and calculating how many more steps before she was at the safe. How long it would take her to open it.
“Katie, I just wanted to see your new home. Your new family. My baby, you look so beautiful.” She heard her say.
“This can’t… you’re not her. I’m a cop. It’s a crime to break into someone’s home.”
She was near the safe when she saw the figure again.
“Mom?”
Johanna smiled at her.
“I wanted to tell you how proud of you I am,” she told her daughter. “You fought to stay with Richard. You fought to stay for your daughter. I’m so proud of you, darling.”
“Mom?” Kate sobbed.
“I love you, Katie,” Johanna told her. “You tell my grand daughter I love her too. I’m watching over both of you.”
And then she was gone. And Kate was calling out to her.
And Rick was shaking her awake. She sat up and looked around her. She was on the sofa. Had she fallen asleep watching their movies? But she remembered going to bed. And then not being able to sleep.
“Beckett, it’s me,” Castle hushed, concerned with how disorientated she was. “You were crying in your sleep. Let’s get you to bed, sweetheart.”
Kate looked around. She was in his sofa. “Mom?” and then the damn broke and Castle held while she cried. For the mother she missed.
“Today is All Hallows,” Castle told her as she told him about her dream. “Maybe that was your Mom’s way of talking to you.”
Kate smiled at him weakly. Some part of her hoped her mother really could see what had become of her life. That she’d made it. Found love, was building a family.
“Come on sweetheart, you and Sweetpea need some sleep.” He helped her to her feet, tucking her into his side as he led her to bed but she couldn’t help looking at the spot she thought she’d seen her Mom. Hovering over her husbands books. She smiled. Her mother had always loved Castle’s books. Funny how life turned out.

Fictober #15: The Light In His Eyes
Tumblr media
Post Series
“Hey Alexis,” Kate called out, standing in the doorway of her stepdaughter's room. “You got a second?”
“Sure Kate, come in,” Alexis made room on the bed for Kate to sit, offering a hand to help the pregnant woman maintain her balance as she did so.
“Thanks,” Kate smiled at her, feeling self-conscious about needing the help but Alexis didn’t make a big deal out of it.
“What’s up?” Alexis asked.
“I need your help,” Kate told her.
Alexis smiled. “Sure, everything okay?”
“I messed up,” Kate admitted. “Your Dad wasn’t really excited for Halloween this year… and I get that. The first Halloween after my... “ She still couldn’t say shooting to Castle or Alexis, saw what that word could do to them. “But it’s your Dad’s favourite time of the year. Well, except for Christmas.”
Alexis nodded. She knew they’d been arguing over something but she kept out of it. As long as they mended it themselves, no separations or anyone leaving then she was staying out of it.
“Kate…”
“He asked me to go to Pattersons party with him,” Kate told her. “And I… I feel like a whale.” She admitted, pointing at her very pregnant stomach.
Alexis sympathised with her. “And you don’t want to dress up.”
Kate winced. “See, I wish I’d put it that way.” She sighed. “I know I’ve been… a lot to deal with lately. I’m sorry you and your Dad are putting up with these hormones. But can you please help me plan something to make it up to him?”
Alexis smiled. Kate was trying so hard to recover, deal with pregnancy and they were all getting their bearings around this and she could see the woman felt guilty.
“Kate, Dad loves you,” Alexis reminded her. “But you know what he’s like when he gets an idea. I have a hard time talking him out of things half the time too.”
Kate smiled. “That’s sweet. But I think I need to fix this one.”
“What did you have in mind?”
“Can you help me find something to wear?” Kate asked. “I’d normally ask Lanie but I was kind of hoping you might agree to a family thing. I think that would help him get past this nervousness.”
Alexis smiled. “Okay, I’m in.”
“I owe you,” Kate smiled.
“Give me a sister and we’ll call it even,” Alexis teased. “Maybe we could do movie night. Still dress up, eat candy but you’ll be more comfortable that way if you don’t want to go to this party.”
“Working on that first part,” Kate smirked. “Thanks Alexis. I don’t even know why your Dad wants to go. I practically had to drag him away from Patterson last time when they devolved into a heated debate over quality versus quantity.”
Alexis laughed. “Have I ever mentioned how glad I am you took over bailing him out at those parties?”
Kate grinned. She really adored Alexis and the last few months they’d finally had a chance to grow closer, the red head excited for the baby in a way Kate hadn't really expected. She had been a rock for Kate and for Castle through everything lately.
“I might have to tag you back in next time,” Kate teased.
Alexis grabbed her laptop and the two got comfortable, searching websites for something that would bring a smile to Castle’s face.
Alexis started laughing. “I know he would enjoy this,” Alexis pointed at a pumpkin dress for herself. “He already fills my room with pumpkins this time of year. I guess I could dress up for him.”
Kate smiled. She could picture the light in his eyes if Alexis did that for him.
“Oh, look, maternity,” Alexis gasped. “Pumpkin for the new pumpkin.”
Kate cringed. “I have always hate the color orange. Besides, you will always be his one and only pumpkin. Your sister will never change that.”
“I know,” Alexis nodded. It was something she’d talked to him about. A lot. Both of them never wanted Alexis to feel like she wasn’t part of this family. She was important to Kate and would always be Castle’s baby. “Consider it my first matching costume with my sister. Look they do it in black.”
Kate looked and smiled. “I actually kind of like that. It looks…”
“You can say sexy, Kate,” Alexis laughed.
“Order them,” Kate told her. “Let me get my card.”
She was actually looking forward to Halloween herself now.
Prompt: “I always hated the colour orange”

Fictober #23: Convincing
Season Four
He’d flinched, flashbacked to watching her die in that ambulance.
The crimson against her chest.
“Castle?” She called again. He was just staring. And not in the usual way he did. There was no lust, no love behind it. He looked pale.
She looked down at her shirt and realised. A  had bumped into the hall. Some of the blood was on her costume.
“Rick,” she reached out to him, her hand squeezing his bicep and was relieved to see his eyes come up to hers.
“Wow… your make up is really convincing.”
“Not mine,” she told him, pulling him away to the break room. “Not my blood. Not my fake blood. Someone bumped into me. The drinking started early today. Holding is full of jackasses in costume having a little too much fun so early in the day. Halloween is a nightmare around here.”
Castle smiled thinly at her.
“I’m here Rick.” She assured him, taking a moment to squeeze his hand.
“How long before your shift ends here before we can go have our movie marathon? Thought we could get Remy’s. My treat” He asked, looking around the 12th. He’d spent the day with Alexis. And they had a Halloween date. Not a date. Plans. They had plans. To watch some movies and eat junk food and help her forget about the shadows looming over her.
“Let me go change my shirt,” she told him and he watched her walk. Grateful he could watch her walk across the bullpen. That she was his, if only for tonight.
It looked like Halloween was going to be a night that triggered both of them this year.

Fictober #14: Delayed Halloween Treats
Post Series
She couldn’t get away, not in time to take the kids trick-or-treating. After a call to her husband, feeling guilty and even though he’d assured her that it wasn’t her fault there was an incident at the Precinct she couldn’t walk away from, she felt like she was letting her kids down.
He called back thirty minutes later and asked if she could at least come down to the lobby for a few minutes.
And when she made it down her babies were charming the desk sergeant out of candy and charming everyone entering and leaving the 12th.
“Mommy!” Reece shouted when he saw her. “Trick-or-treat.”
Castle looked at her with a smile and she felt a little lighter. “Rough day?” He asked as she came over to kiss him.
“You could say that,” she murmured. “Thanks for bringing them.”
She turned to her kids, dropping to her knees to fuss over them. “Look at you three. You look amazing!”
Jake was dressed as a Ghostbuster, Reece as Stay Puft and Lily was dressed as a ghost. The three of them rarely agreed on much these days, Lily often not wanting to cater to her four year old brothers but the three of them really loved the Ghostbuster movies and had begged their parents to let that be the costume theme this year. She had a suit at home waiting for her and she smiled at Castle in his ghost costume.
“I’m so sorry babies,” she told them. “Listen. I’ve got to stay at work for a little longer. I want nothing more than to go with you and Daddy tonight but I can’t leave work because something important is happening.”
Three heads looked at her, she could see the sadness in them. It tore at her heart.
“Remember what I said,” Castle prompted.
“We know Mommy,” Reece told her. “Daddy says we can play Busters.”
“And we’ll have a second Halloween,” Lily continued. “Alexis is gonna come too. We can watch movies”
“And get more candy,” Jake grinned.
Kate smiled. “I love you,” She told them. “Come on. Let’s get you some candy. You’ve earned it being so understanding and looking so good in your costumes. Stay here and I’ll be right back.”
Kate disappeared off to the vending machines, grabbing what she could find that her kids would enjoy and when she went back to the lobby she found them once again charming the people around them, two of which were their Uncles.
“Mommy, Uncle Kevin and Uncle Javi gave us chocolate,” Reece cheered.
“Did you thank them?” She asked and watched the boys with her kids.
“I’m missing Sarah-Grace and Nick but text Jenny,” Ryan told Castle. “Maybe you can meet up. She’s stopping by with the kids at some point.”
Kate dished out the candy she’d gotten between the bags her kids had and dolled out kisses too. “Be good for your Dad and I will be home as soon as I can, I promise. And we will run around all weekend in our costumes.”
“Be careful,” Castle told her.
“You too,” Kate told him as she kissed him goodbye. “Send me photos and I’ll give you a trick-or-treat when I get home later.”
“I thought Halloween was for kids?” Jake asked, peering up at her and she suddenly felt heat in her face as she saw Ryan and Espo trying desperately to keep their composure.
“Daddy is the biggest kid I know,” Kate covered, sending them on their way so she could get back upstairs and ending this emergency so she could get back home to them.
Sighing, she let herself into the Loft, later than she had hoped. The kids would be long in bed. Castle might even be asleep himself. She can’t believe she had missed the whole of Halloween.
Except when the door swung open, her kids were running around the Loft still dressed in their costumes and playing Ghostbusters and her husband was asleep on the sofa. She could see the empty candy wrappers all around, her kids clearly on a sugar-rush induced tear.
So much for his treat. She was gonna kill him.

Fictober #16: Warm Me Up
Season 5
They’d left Black Pawn's party a little earlier than he’d anticipated and their car service would not be ready for another half an hour.
They couldn’t flag down a taxi either with most of New York out at Halloween parties.
“We could always go back in,” Castle suggested as she huddled into his side, looking wearily at the rain.
“What? So Connolly can goad you into another ridiculous bet?” Kate scoffed. “No, writer man, I did girlfriend duty. You owe me a bloody movie and a few treats after tonight.”
He took off the cape he’d worn as part of his devil costume, wrapping it around her and pulling her into his arms.
“My hero,” he smiled, leaning down to capture her lips.
Thunder overhead caused them to jump apart and the rain came down even more. He spotted an alcove they could huddle in, pulling her with him and holding his cape over their heads like a rain cover, holding her close to share his warmth.
Lips on his neck definitely made him feel warm.
“Beckett, keep that up and we’ll get arrested for indecent exposure.”
“Just letting you know what you’re in for when you get me home,” Beckett whispered in his ear.
“Oh believe me, I’m ready to sin a little when we get in,” he wiggled his eyebrows and with the horns atop his head he couldn’t resist a little word play. “You’ve got me feeling horny tonight, Detective.”
Kate laughed despite herself. “You gonna warm me up?”
He leant down to claim her lips again, cape dropping down around their shoulders as he held her close for a minute and then he left her under cover, trying desperately to flag down a ride to get her back to either of their apartments as soon as possible.
Prompt: being caught in a thunderstorm on halloween

Fictober #21: Easy There, Sailor
She was nursing her drink, keeping an eye on the party goers and wondering how she’d ended up here.
“Halloween parties are so dumb,” she complained to her friend, as they stood beside the bar while her friend got herself another cocktail.
“Just find a hot pirate to hit on to pass time,” she teased. “Come on, liven up. You need to have a little fun once in a while.”
She rolled her eyes. This wasn’t necessarily her idea of fun.
“I see just the pirate.” And damn, she was onto something. She slipped, leaving her friend to mingle and watch him cross through the throng of dancing bodies. The long dreads, the thick eyeliner. The pants fighting him so snug she could see how great his butt was.
He swaggered through the party, doing his best impression of Jack Sparrow, a drink sloshing in his hand as he said hello to people here and there. She watched him walk up to the bar and sit down, take his hat off and collect himself.
She siddled up beside him, trying to get the servers attention and then they bumped against each other trying to flag him down, knocking her drink out of her hand.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he said, mopping it up with some napkins.
“Easy there, sailor,” she joked. “No, I’m sorry.”
When she looked at him she could see she’d already lost his attention, his eyes locked somewhere else for a moment. Like he was watching for something.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he said abruptly. “Please, let me get you a new drink. I knocked it all over the place.”
“Okay,” she smiled.
“I’m Rick,” he said.
“Kate.”
“Well, Kate, what are you doing after this?” He asked, wiggling his eyebrows at her.
She snorted, leaning into the whisper in his ear. “I knew I should have asked Ryan to do this op.”
Rick scoffed. “No one but me gets to hit on you in that outfit,” he whispered back, lifting a hand up to tug on the pirate hat atop her head. “Can you keep this on later?”
“Help me get our guy and I’ll see what I can do,” she told him, turning to accept the water she’d ordered from the server, turning to watch the party unfold and make small talk with her partner, her boyfriend as they waited for their guy to show. She saw Kapowski and Espo on either side of the dance floor carrying out the same ruse she and Castle were trying, except there would be less sexual tension over there. At least she hoped there was.
Prompt: "halloween parties are so dumb" / "just find a hot pirate to hit on to pass time."

Fictober #19: Still Your Little Girl
Post Series She sat at the kitchen island, filling out paperwork and shaking her head at her ridiculous man as he sulked over his dinner, full rant and she was trying hard to let him work it out but it was getting out of hand.
“What happened to normal Halloween costumes?” He grumbled, flicking the spoon he was stirring with around as he gesticulated his rant. “Like Spider-man or something?”
Kate stopped what she was doing. “Spider-man, really?” She fixed him with a glare.
“What?” He sulked.
“Babe, you have to understand that she’s growing up,” Kate softened. “And she wants to go out with her friends.”
“But in that?” He argued.
“What? It wasn’t that bad,” Kate told him. “She will always be your little girl. But believe me, she’s way more sensible than any girl her age I have ever known. And she looked beautiful.”
“I miss the days when I dressed her in a skeleton onesie and we watched Charlie Brown with candy all night.” He pouted.
“She’s still your little girl,” Kate reminded him. “Just like Alexis was when she was all grown up. The boys are playing their zombie game. Do you wanna join them or do you want to watch a movie with me until Lily calls for one of us to pick her up?”
“A movie sounds good, like the old days,” Castle told her, finally relaxing enough to enjoy a somewhat quiet night with his wife.
Prompt: “what happened to normal halloween costumes? like spiderman or something?”

Fictober #12: That Family
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Post Series
She stood in the doorway with a cup of coffee, watching as her boys laughed maniacally at their handiwork.
They’d set out with their father this morning after she’d come down from her bedroom to find her husband and their children with their heads bent together over the breakfast table.
Talk had stopped when she’d walked into the kitchen and she’d eyed them wearily but knew that if she tried to pry information out of them together they would hold up. No, if she wanted to know she’d have to get one of them alone.
But it was Halloween and the kids were excited this year to be decorating the Hamptons house and having a movie marathon now they were outgrowing trick-or-treating. She was a little sad that they’d reach that point but watching them still be excited about the holiday made her feel a little better about it.
So she’d left them to it, content joining in the fun when they’d deemed to let her in on the secret.
She’d walked through their house after showering and dressing for the day and was shocked to find that nothing inside had changed.
And then she heard a commotion outside and went to investigate.
So now she stood, watching the twins and Castle arrange skeletons and a lawn mower across their yard. Where on Earth they had gotten the ride-on lawn mower she had no idea but the three of them were laughing so hard at the staging and high fiving each other.
“Mom!” Reece called. “Isn’t it the best?”
She stepped out the doors, heading down to join them. “Looks amazing Peanut!”
“It’s so cool,” Jake jumped up and down. “I can’t wait for Halloween.”
“You know, when you said you were going to CostCo to stock up on things for the weekend, I thought you meant candy and popcorn and those pretzel things you like,” Kate said, as Castle strode to her side to turn and look at his masterpiece with her. “How many skeletons did you buy?”
“I’m probably safer not answering that question,” he winked at his sons. Incorrigible. Sometimes she thought they had kids just so he had someone to play with.
“Where’s Lily?” she asked her husband as he took stock of what they’d done so far.
“She said she had an idea for something but she wanted to wait until you were out of the shower to help her,” Castle told her.
“Mom!”
Kate laughed at her daughter's timing.
“I guess that’s my cue.”
Her cue was to help Lily hang skeletons out of several windows and on the balcony outside her and Castle’s bedroom, her daughter laughing wildly when they came back outside to check out their work. “It’s so cool,” she said, leaning into Kate who took the opportunity to cuddle while her almost teenager would allow it.
“I think we outdid ourselves,” Kate agreed.
“I’m gonna find Dad and show him,” Lily told. “He’s gonna love it.”
She smiled as she watched her daughter run back into the house, wondering what chaos her children could inflict on the interior and looking forward to a day spent with the people she loved most. She looked at the massacre on the lawn and then up at the falling bodies on the front of the house.
“We are definitely that family,” Kate laughed. But she wouldn’t have it any other way.
