Chase is literally the Odyssean figure of our modern era. A man who is metaphorically in exile from home (ie a place to belong), and who has wandered and suffered for years, emotionally and physically, on his journey to find home again.
Clever and wily and silver-tongued, a trickster who thinks he can get out of any situation until he overextends himself, and finds himself in a spot of trouble he can't escape that his honeyed words have brought himself into.
Someone who has lost everything, time and time again, but still keeps desperately surviving, even if it means he has to crawl forward on his hands and knees.

Annabeth as Odysseus. Both too smart, too cunning, with eyes that have seen to much and dreams too big for this world.
She dreams, sometimes, of the raging sea, of bloodied fields and weary soldiers. Of the warm sun and sand of an island that feels like home. When she wakes up, the memories tug at her mind, tantalisingly out of her reach. (When storms hit the shores of the camp, she hears the roar of waves against the beach echoing in the cabin and she hides under her covers, trembling and gasping in a fear she doesn’t understand).
The first time she meets Clarisse, a new camper with wild eyes and an angry scowl she nearly calls her Achilles. (The only one to notice her hesitation is Mr D. He looks pitying for a second before retreating behind his disdainful apathy).
Percy as Penelope. Both fiercely loyal, resilient and strong. To have them as friends, as lovers, is like having a home.
Percy who flinches at smelly Gabe’s voice, who sees other men superimposed with him, stronger, taller, familiar men. He feels dread and determination rise within him. He lifts his chin. Royalty never bows to anyone. (People forget Penelope came from Sparta after all. She has smiles full of teeth and a sword in her closet).

A conversation I had with my sister:
Her :"So Odysseus is Hermes' great grandson?"
Me: "yea"
Her: "So Telemachus is Hermes' great great grandson?"
Me: "yeps"
Her: "So everyone in the Hermes cabin at CHB is related to Odysseus and Telemachus?"
Me: "Uh... yes"
Her: "So..."
Me: "Luke?"
Her: "Yea, Luke. Is it a coincidence that he was best friends / an older brother to a daughter of Athena?"
Me:
Her:
Me: "fuck"
Her: "Tumblr?"
Me: "Tumblr."

I heard someone say this, so we’re sharing.
Rick Riordan loves his long standing romances to mirror Grecian romance myths.
Percy and Annabeth mirror Odysseus and Penelope, how they love each other and Percy was thrown onto the island of Ogyia with Calypso. Even through the wars, he fought for her. He fought Polyphemus. He could never forget Annabeth regardless of what was thrown at him.
Nico and Will mirror Orpheus and Eurydice. They both went to the underworld. Will could never leave without his Eurydice, Nico. He traveled the Underworld and turned around on the stairs to see Nico. He used song to open the stairs of Orpheus. He proved multiple times that he would not let himself live without Nico there. He was weaker than Nico, but he would fight for him. Their love had the approval of the Gods and Hades, in specific.
Honorable mention: Silena Beauregard and Clarisse La Rue. You CANNOT tell me they weren’t in love with each other in the good luck, babe/casual/I wish you were a boy sense. anyways. Achilles and Patroclus. Clarisse who despised most except Silena. Silena who was kind-natured and sweet but still could be strong. Clarisse who was relentless, cruel, strong, and a valiant fighter. Clarisse who boycott the war. Silena who wore Clarisse’s uniform to break the boycott. Clarisse who brutally k*lled others because the one she held most close to her heart died. Clarisse who loved her best friend, Silena.

PERCY, FOR THE LAST TIME, POSIDON IS YOUR DAD!!!
following the epic the musical x pjo headcannon:
Percy, talking to Odysseus: hm, you know it's kinda weird, i did all the things you did, and yet it didn't take 20 years to come back to camp
Odysseus: *eye visibly twitching* 10, actually, the first ten years I was at war
Percy:yeah, okay, but still weird
Annabeth: *shouting from the athena cabin while talking to telemachus* FOR THE LAST TIME SEAWEED BRAIN, POSIDON IS YOUR FATHER, HE WOULDNT HURT HIS CHILD, THAT IS THE REASON THAT POSIDON CURSED ODYSSEUS, IF IT WAS JUST ME , CLARISSE AND GROVER ON THAT SHIP WE'D ALL BE DEAD- in this essay I will-

Listen, I read your post about Percy's strategic genius and I thought something.
Percy, Sally, and the entire Jackson family are descendants of Odysseus.
Sally is also damn smart, just look at how she competently got rid of Gabe and remained in full advantage.
And that is why how Athena treats Percy in this way.
He is a descendant of her beloved mortal, so similar to him in his mind and the son of her sworn rival, who tormented this very mortal and prevented him from returning home.
You seriously have no idea how GENIUS that headcanon is like holy hell the sheer depth it adds to everything is insane.
1. Athena begrudgingly guiding Percy in Titan's Curse, getting extreme deja vu (God's probably get that a lot) from the situation and how conflicting she gets over the mortal that is Perseus Jackson for his uncanny resemblance to Odysseus when it comes to his wit and his personality minus strangely the hubris.
Despite her disdain for him out of some strange loyalty, she tells him of his fatal flaw and how it would endanger him.
She let's her loathing for Poseidon get the best of her in Titan's Curse and votes to kill Percy and Thalia but Percy like Odysseus has both the wit and achievements she can't overlook despite her desperate intentions to and hence in the Last Olympian she acknowledges in her own subtle way that Percy is the greatest demigod of this age. That he's saved both the world and his friends.
2. Annabeth proud and confident as ever would be flabbergasted that Percy who she despite her supposed love for him undermines him almost always when it comes to his intelligence finds out that her mother has acknowledged Percy for his strategic mind and that he is the descendant of her mother's most favored mortal ever. (Maybe just maybe it will tone her hubris down a notch and then some, and if we are really lucky, a reality check)
3. Percy would laugh, probably shrug at the revelation. After all, stuff like that makes no difference to him.
4. But I can imagine if Sally knew beforehand about it, then how much hell must she have given Poseidon over it and probably still finds it to be a hilarious coincidence .
5. To Poseidon himself, it must have struck as an agonizing coincidence, but for the better, because for all of Poseidon's flaws, he loves his own intensely. His godly children, his monstrous children, his demigod children, and Percy, he loves most out of them all by his own words and he loves him so in some strange manner for the same humanity he scorned Odysseus for having.
Sally must have made him see the error of his ways, and even Poseidon for his quick temper would be loathe to not change his opinions on mercy then. (If the Queen among mortals tells you, you listen)
All in all, everything that happened in the Odyssey with Poseidon Odysseus and Athena would have come to a good closure with this.
That a millenia later by strange set of circumstances Athena and Poseidon begrudgingly acknowledged the folly in their perspectives from the times of Odyssey all because Poseidon met Sally Jackson and sired a demigod child who by a twist only the fates could make up turned out to be the descendant of Odysseus himself. (I reckon the fates must be cackling in glee at the whole thing)
PS: Hermes is having a blast with this news of Percy's ancestry.
No, but seriously, you have given me more pjo brainrot. (Now I hope this keeps you awake like it does me)
And on that note, Percy would totally canonly be the biggest fan of Epic the Musical, lol.
I have a feeling I am not going to stop talking about this now.

Just imagine if the guys of the Iliad were yeeted in PJO universe
Odysseus is lowkey terrified of Percy but also he knows befriending Poseidon's son is definitely better than making him an enemy. So he's like "that's great Percy I'm proud of you 👍" but constantly keeps a distance of minimum 5m between them, safety measure. Leo once mentions dating Calypso and Ody immediately has a mental breakdown.
The constant beef between Achilles and Will because 1) Apollo 2) they both are healers and they would aggressively disagree on medecine techniques ("wtf would you use that for an arrow wound are you stupid" "shut up my boyfriend never died because of me")
Also Patroclus and Nico chilling under a tree like "are all blond men like that?" "no. Maybe it's just the blond demigods"
Put Agammenon and Clarisse in a room together and 15mn later he will come out crying
Helen gets kidnapped by cabin 10 and Menelaus has to wait outside. Beckendorf comes to him "girlfriend too pretty ?" "girlfriend too pretty" and they nod at each other in silence
Diomedes and Jason bond over common childhood traumas experiences ("I started combat training not long after my dad died when I was 4yo" "woah its about the same age I first met the pack of wolve who raised me")("just bc im the son of Zeus everyone expects me to be this flawless leader. But I don't even have the time to ask myself if I want that. "oh trust me I know how you feel")
Annabeth definitely becomes besties with Ody and Diomedes. They probably play 3 persons chess while talking about the shits they've all done for Athena
By the end of the day everyone agrees the gods suck and everything is always their fault

hi yes if ruereguard are the patrochilles parallel then percabeth are the Odysseus and Penelope parallel BUT (and I cannot stress this enough) annabeth is Odysseus
here's why:
Odysseus is a character who is the epitome of hubris. he's the smartest person in every room he walks into, he was the main strategist for the entire Greek army, everyone was looking to him for guidance and approval. he's Athena's champion (and pet liar) but eventually loses favour with her because pride comes before the fall. the overarching story of the odyssey is that he's trying to go home to his wife and will do whatever it takes with his cunning and wits to get there over the course of 10 years.
sounds awfully familiar to Annabeth Chase, favoured daughter of Athena, general and main strategist of CHB, smartest person in the room, prideful, strong and the person everyone looks to for approval. Athena holds annabeth in high regards but will put her aside the moment she "embarrasses her". and not only did Annabeth spend months trying to get Percy back, but its approx. 10 years from her arrival at CHB and the end of HoO, in which her overarching goal is to create something permanent - and she achieves that, though changed in unimaginable ways.
Percy and Penelope may be a bit of a stretch until you look at the main thing the two of them have in common - their unending and unconditional loyalty. Penelope sat and weaved day in and day out for maybe 20 years as men ate her out of house and home, because she would not abandon her husband and the hope that he would return home. by all accounts, it could have been easier for her to simply accept whatever offer suited her most as queen of Ithaca but she didn't. and we know that loyalty is our boy Percy's fatal flaw, and that one of the only things he could remember was annabeth.

The epic the musical fans have decided that Athena doesn’t know what baby’s are. And that got me thinking if that’s the reason she doesn’t like Percy. Because she doesn’t think he’s got enough brains to have a kid??????
(Although Percy did confirm that Zeus didn’t either so maybe Athena is trying to prevent another Zeus)
Edit: I can’t spell

(check the tags for more and also the tag for other fics in the story!)
athena, scowling as she gets bullied into marrying the people she pined over for the last 1000 years, suddenly realising something: wait a minute
odysseus: what?
athena, frozen: wait a damn minute you know what this gives me rights to do
penelope, also realising: oh fuck yes
odysseus: I don't like the sound of whatever's happening here what are you two fucking talking about?
athena, grabbing the marriage wine and tossing it back, then kissing her new wife and husband and handing penelope a spear as she picks up a mace: we'll be back shortly, you can start celebrations without us.
penelope: do u have anything that can start a fire
athena, pulling out an old contract and scanning it before throwing it over her shoulder: yes. are you scared of heights or can we fly.
penelope: fucking bring it I've waited years for this moment
zeus: where are they going
hermes, picking up the contract: they're going to... Ogygia? Oh fucking shit they're going to fucking kill Calypso- hey, hello, WAIT-
#odysseus disappears midway because athena plants one on him so hard his soul evaporates#(strategic to make him stop from coming after them and also from passion she forgot to hold back for once)#(and also shes maybe possibly in love and cant wait to get vengeance on Calypsos bitch ass who hurt him so much for so long)#penelope has had to deal with calypos afteraffects for literally the rest of their lives. from flashbacks to odysseus inconsolably crying#at her feet for forgiveness some days even though shes always said frim the first moment that it wasnt his fault#the rest of the gods have to chase them down to prevent them from eternally torturing calypso (goddesses cant die <3)#athenas blazing mad and sick with guilt and horror. she couldn't attack before because it would be seen as an attack from olympus#but as a wife! as two wifes! no political implications there no holds barred calypso gets her ass BEAT#but also pls imagine them chasing her and gods chasing them round and round the island while screaming#odysseus wavered like 17 times on whether to ask hermes for a lift there or not but goes in the end#their honeymoon in truth ends up being on ogygia#athena lovingly and seductively teaching penelope how to fillet a person both of them covered in ichor#odysseus with a hand over his mouth blushing grinning tears in eyes torn between turned on and terrified to be back and crying coz they lov#him that much.#((he goes to her just before they leave in the cave she used to drag him to. she can barely hold herself up and hes shaking to approach))#((but he's stronger now. settled and satisfied and content. he kneels by her and sets down bandages next to her.))#((i told you i was married he says. and because his truest weapon is his tongue- if youd just listened i wouldve found us both a way out))#she sobs and he leaves. the scars will never fade fully but he feels lighter as he steps out into the sun where athene and pen are waiting.#bloodsoaked and being shouted at by hera but smiling at him widely and gleefully as he approaches. takes a hand each and presses him btwn.#he squeezes back with a smile and leans into them. his beautiful horrifying wives#odypenath#odypenetha#odysseus#penelope#athena#odypen#odyath#penath#epic the musical#love in paradise

So, I have a new fic idea. Basically, I started seeing all of the odysseus introduces athena to baby telemachus content in the fandom, and as somebody who is a fan of both epic and pjo my brain just went what about athena introducing odysseus to baby annabeth and then my brain continued to spiral until it formed a full blown au. Essentially, what if annabeth (and any of the other riordanverse Demigods) was born during ancient Greece sometime during the Trojan War, and she's like athenas first Demigod child, right? Like athena has only just came up with the whole magic baby idea and made annabeth as like an experiment to see if she could not fully expecting it to work so now she's got a half human baby on her hands that she has no idea what to do with until she remembers her friend odysseus has a son and she goes to him for help. Long story short imagine the entire Trojan war but with odysseus and crew essentually getting turned into unpaid babysitters having to help athena look after a demigod baby in the middle of a warzone all while athena is bonding with baby ananbeth and learning how to parent in between battles and training odysseus.

I’ve been obsessed with Percy Jackson since I was 11, and EPIC since Warrior of the Mind was trending
Only option is to combine them
Annabeth is Odysseus’ reincarnation and Percy is Penelope’s
None of the other characters are reincarnations but the give Anndysseus PTSD (Grover, Thalia, and Luke specifically)
The gods are from EPIC meaning Athena is a good mum and loves Annabeth (She cried when she realised who Annabeth was (which she learned before everyone else))
Both Anndysseus and Pernelope have dreams of their past but chalk it up to godly weirdness.
Annabeth will have knowledge about something she shouldn’t be capable of knowing (Child of Athena, right?) and Percy is way to ocean-y (The genes are strong with this one, Poseidon)

It would be so cool if someone did an animatic of Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus (specifically the scene where they meet Ahklys) to the song Scylla from Epic: the musical.
I mean:
Tumblr media
Ahklys singing to Percy and Annabeth, telling them to “choke on their blood and tears” (her poison and misery), and “live out your life as a wraith” (obtain the death mist to get to the doors of death)
And then Percy turns the situation around, doing the same things to her that she just tried to do to them. That moment when something inside of him just cracks and he realizes that he can turn her poison against her, and make her choke on her blood and tears
I just think if fits so well
