What do you headcanon Charles and Arthur if they played any sport? 🤔

Arthur gives me the vibes of someone who would be good in sports like baseball or rugby, while Charles would fit perfectly as an archer. 🤔

oh interesting!! i actually did give this quite some thought before, so here goes:

so this is the first of many sports i think they'd be good at, i think they'd both be very skilled martial arts practitioners, kind of an obvious choice hehe. i think they're probably both the type to dabble in a bit of everything, though i think arthur is more of a mixed martial arts guy, probably some muay thai and even krav maga too. charles i think is more just boxing? he's more of a keep a steady stance kinda guy i think, very sure in the steadiness of his lower body. i do imagine them trying jiu jitsu but they'd absolutely not be able to pair up and stay focused (wink wonk). i like to think charles coaches boxing part time at like a big gym that has its own boxing studio and arthur often tags along to his classes to be his partner for demonstration and help him go around teaching the students (as an unofficial TA) and then after class they stay behind for some personal training paired with each other and work out 🥺 and of course his classes are always fully booked

and also you're totally right i can totally see arthur doing some impact heavy sport like rugby or hockey, he'd be so good at those. charles i actually dont really see him wanting to get involved in any team sport, hes too antisocial (?) for that, though probably some friendly team sporting with friends he can enjoy. and yes he of course would be a brilliant archer. i think it suits him a lot too, just himself with his thoughts and arrows. arthur would definitely be a frequent gun range visitor, i dont think he'd hunt for sport tho? idk, i think he'd rather not harm nature if he can help it. speaking of nature, they absolutely hike and go out into the woods or mountains and go camping and exploring. just for fun tho, not like serious hiking or anything.

i also think they'd both be the type to love the beach a lot, i think they'd both know how to surf and like it quite a bit, not too fanatical tho. some beach volleyball once in a while 🥺 and of course they'd go horse riding often, if they dont own their own ranch out in the countryside they'd definitely own horses they can take out of stables and go riding together. imagine winter riding or riding along the beach, on my bucket list for sure. but also in general i think they'd both just be a natural in any sport they play, the young ones in the gang probably hang out often and they'd absolutely dominate regardless if it's basketball or football or frisbee or whatever honestly. they're just both such physically adept dudes.

and thats pretty much it? i dont really see them as an athlete in anything outside of the martial arts if we're talking professional tbh but they'd just be good at anything.

Y'all I saw some Charthur-esque fanart a while back with Charles sitting on the ground giving a buck some chin scritches, does anyone know who the hell drew it?? I took a screenshot inspired by it and I'd really like to give credit where credit is due. On a related note, I just scheduled 31 days' worth of posts and then realized I put them on the wrong blog. still working on my second rdr playthrough (where i’m paying more attention to everyone’s relationships and personalities instead of frenziedly barreling my way thru the plot without doing shit else) and i’m at the end of ch2 and not yet seeing anything that helps me understand why/how charthur is as much of a thing as it is. like when i got into this fandom it genuinely surprised me how much charthur content i was seein on here on tiktok everywhere….

maybe i haven’t seen enough of the game/their interactions yet? i know the broad strokes of their canon relationship like he goes back and buries him and they’re probably the closest but also…….. idk i’m not seein it yet! at least not the same way i saw it for mikey and trevor for example, where from the first moment they interact im like oh they have sucked each other DRY…..

hmmm idk i’ll keep an eye out for it but could be this is one of those cases where the popular ship ends up making no sense to me for whatever reason (used to happen a lot) which would be sad but kinda predictable for me

and/or maybe it’s the fact that i almost expected the big slash ships (do we even call them that anymore? what’s the term du jour for shipping the lads?) to be like, arthur/micah or arthur/john or even arthur/DUTCH notwithstanding the more familial relations they have . but nope! it’s like 90% charthur up in this bitch. not that I mind, the art is amazing and so is the writing. it’s just not my ship (yet) or one whose logic i can follow with some ease

or maybe it’s that charles is quieter than most of the other characters and as a result i wasn’t paying much attention to him the first go around?

whole thing perplexes me because on the one hand i def see what u all mean but otoh it almost strikes me as kind of random? either way i want to get in on it somehow i’m keeping myself open minded keepin my eyes peeled u know how it is. maybe i will understand eventually…. i hope i do……

I didn't know the song before but now I'm getting emotional 😭😭😭 like sometimes I remember back to when I first played rdr2 I didn't know what I was getting myself into so every painful thing just punched me in the heart and now it's all coming to the surface again 😭 brb gonna imagine happy cowboy scenarios so I'm less sad

🤔 ahh do you mean what their jobs would be in a modern au? i hope im interpreting this correctly 🥺 im going to assume thats what ur asking but if not shoot me another ask lol. and its fine its not out of nowhere! i think about modern au charthur all day really. the brain is so rotting brace urself for a long answer 😈

so eh honestly. i think it depends on the upbringing specific to the au lol, there are fics out there where they are still brought up in the countryside and very similar to canon and fittingly they become ranchers or truckers etc.?

*personally* when i think modern au i really think *modern* so like. i think given a proper education they would both be too smart to be like hauling bricks all day (not saying its dumb!) or stuff but also i dont see either of them sitting in an office all day 🤔 theyd both suffocate honestly. and given their canon hobbies and skills i think they could be a lot of different things 👀

for arthur i've thought about maybe gun range instructor, or freelance artist, given his love for dogs he could possibly work at a dog shelter? or a leader for trailriding? maybe a job that requires a lot of drawing sketches, like architect or a designer of some sort? arthurs so artistic 😭 a bit of a stretch but he could even be a writer too. even further of a stretch if we're throwing ordinary out the window maybe some kinda special agent or a mercenary. idk about police tho. firefighter i kinda can see both of them being. ooh i also did briefly consider arthur being a commercial pilot too!

as for charles i keep thinking of him as a grad student. idk. hes young and i think hed be pretty smart. maybe hed study something related to nature or native americans? maybe even biology? i feel like hed be a stem person. either that or something like history. then again he could also be a craftsman like we cant let those carving skills go to waste! hes so musically talented too but i dont rly see him as a musician. altho now that i think about it i feel like a cello position in an orchestra suits him so well 🤤 and of course he could also be a professional boxer but personally i think hes had enough boxing in canon let my baby rest 😭 and of course, the air traffic controller or first officer for arthurs pilot... but that will have to be a fic for later ehehe.

and then of course we've got like the rock band aus. (personally i see arthur on the bass and charles on the drums. or vice versa.) and the coffee shop aus. heehee.

honestly i wonder about their modern occupations all the time. so many possibilities! for my modern au renders i've sorta established that rdr2 is a game they worked on together but thats not like their proper jobs. i'be settled on charles going back to grad school for that au but idk about arthur yet. man the downsides of two characters who have way too many talents and interests 😭🤤 if anyone has other ideas leave a comment i'd love to know!!

I have a Charthur fic rec for you if you’re interested! It’s called Lost Country by iridan on Ao3. It’s a modern coffeeshop/biker gang au fic, I’ve read and re-read it a couple times and it’s really good! I thought I’d recommend it to you because the tattoo post you reblogged reminded me of it for some reason- maybe it was the vibes, or something. While the post isnt exactly related to the fic, I still think you’ll like it! : D -rdrdepression (this is my main blog sorry)

I’m a bit of a Fandom Old, so I don’t really have a tip jar or ko-fi (no judgement for anyone that does - just not something I’ve ever done) but I would happily encourage anyone who would like to leave me a tip to instead donate to a worthy BLM cause.  There’s a list of charities here that would be a great starting place.  If you do donate and would like to send me a screen shot, I’ll even do some quick little drabbles!  My fandom interests these days are mostly limited to rdr2 and charthur in particular, but if you have a particular idea in mind let me know.  Slice of life from like thieves in the night or game canon would be great!  Just, I’m not a fan of writing tragedy/death, so it would be lovely if any requests were happy or redemptive.  

Also, by the nature of the canon, race and oppression are important topics in RDR2 and, by extension, fandom.  This has resulted in some important discussions, which are sometimes not heard or appreciated by white creators.  I think the best thing we as allies and people passionate about fandom can do is listen when black creators try to educate us, especially when it is often so exhausting for them to do so.  I would encourage you to seek out black voices (everywhere, really, in your activism, in your communities, and in your fandom) and listen to what they have to say.  Here are some posts to get you started: [1] [2] [3] [4] I know we all come to fanfic for comfort in difficult times and there may be some folks that don’t want to be confronted by these topics in fandom when they are already seeing it everywhere else.  However, I think that by engaging in a fandom that is so deeply entwined with stories about race and oppression, you’ve also gotta do the work to do it properly.   When someone tells you you’re hurting them, stop. (Note: It’s okay to reblog this, but please don’t add any tags related to BLM - those tags should be kept solely for posts directly related to activism)

"If you write Charles as a submissive in a relationship to Arthur, that’s a form of racism. While it may not seem like it to you, you’re making a poc character submissive to a white character, and kind of ooc for that particular person. If you write Charles as submissive to TWO white characters that is racist af." Can't it also be said that it's a form of racism to dub the POC character as the dom? Also, this was kind of an obvious attempt at a vague callout post.

Okay, so apparently everyone in this fandom only understands relationships in either a dom or sub fashion or in terms of sexual relations. Did you know that characters can be in a neutral and supportive relationship without there being a power struggle? They can also be in an intimate relationship without sex?

Submissive means having no agency or desires of their own, obedient, never challenging the other.

Additionally, I posted a number of different things I've seen posted multiple times in this fandom. But, it seems, the only one that offends people is the one they feel like they can attribute to a specific story. No one wants to defend how people are writing Javier?

There are a number of charthur stories where charles seemingly is just there to agree with Arthur or follow his lead, or do whatever he wants, even if the thing they are doing is wildly ooc for either of them.

Do I think that Charles can be a sub in the relationship? Sure, but please do it in a way that gives Charles agency: let him start the sexual encounter, vocalize his desires, things like that. I personally find in that relationship it would be more of a switch dynamic. Neither of them being able to give up full control all the time, based on their characters.

Honestly, this post is actually aimed at 4 particular stories I've read. So if you'd like to see it as vaguing, go right ahead, because it was there as a reminder to people that microaggressions exist. Like they aren't even done with malice, but they still hurt people.

But overall, it's the apologists that I'm most annoyed at, because y'all out here promoting this type of attention seeking behavior along with telling people that when someone is called out it's okay to not correct the behavior, because that person is just mean. It creates a vicious cycle where racist behaviors can breed and lead to bigger issues.

So, I will say it again.

Microaggressions don't make you racist, not correcting your behavior after being called out makes you racist.
