I’ll do you one better than tags (although my vote was “no raisins”) - here’s a rough recipe for the charoset I make!
In true Jewish-recipe-you-got-from-your-mom fashion, there are no ingredient amounts, but if you eyeball it well, you get something like this!
(I made this batch in like. September cause I felt like it, and I put in too much Manischewitz, but it was pretty good!)
Please reblog for bigger sample size and Chag Sameach!!

Traditional Ashkenazi Charoset--Apple/Walnut
This is my easiest Charoset to make — all in the food processor. It’s traditional in the sense that it’s an Ashkenazi (Eastern European) recipe. I add a little brown sugar instead of white sugar and it gives it just a bit more character. Remember, while a reminder of the mortar used in making bricks for Pharaoh, charoset is really just a sweet condiment of apples and wine! And we love it on…

ik its the middle of pesach and everyone's got their cooking done or mostly done but here's a very very easy sephardic charoset recipe courtesy of my grandma.
1 cup walnuts
1 cup medjool dates
1 cup raisins
1/4 red wine or sparkling grape juice. whichever it is it has to be bubbly
(you can change the amounts as long as the ratio is the same)
in a food processor, blend the walnuts, dates, and raisins until they are the size of small pebbles.
add the wine/juice and blend some more til it is squishy yet solid enough to hold its shape.
if you dont own a food processor, you can chop the walnuts, dates, and raisins with a knife and mix the wine/juice in with your hands (use gloves its sticky)
now you have charoset! yay!

Last night I did a Passover cooking demo at Temple Beth El in Stamford, Connecticut. One of the dishes I prepared was this dried fruit and coconut Charoset. It’s a delicious and interesting change from traditional apple/walnut version and perfect if you have family with nut allergies, as we do. Btw, this a side dish — sort of like applesauce or cranberry sauce — so you can make this anytime and serve it with meat, chicken, fish and so on. It’s not just for Passover! Here’s the recipe: Dried Fruit and Coconut Charoset 1 cup chopped dried figs 1/2 cup chopped dried apricots 1/2 cup dried cherries or cranberries 1 navel orange 1 cup flaked or shredded coconut 2 teaspoons chopped fresh ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup apricot jam 1/3 cup sweet white or red Passover wine Combine the figs, apricots and cherries in a bowl. Slice the orange and cut the outer edges to remove the peel and white pith. Cut the flesh into small pieces and add to the bowl. Add the coconut, ginger, cinnamon, apricot jam and wine and mix ingredients. Let rest for at least one hour (preferably several hours) before serving. May be made a 2-3 days ahead. Makes about 3 cups #charoset #charoseth #haroset #passover #pesach #passoverfood #passover2023 #pesach2023 #seder #sederplate https://www.instagram.com/p/CqD8LjTP1Xq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

LATE POST
This Passover, I made my own matzah for the first time! Far less daunting than it seems, I promise — the trickiest part is getting the timing right, but it really does get you in the spirit for the holiday!
The recipe I used as a guide was that of Kibitz Spot, but the ratio is 3/4 cup flour to 1/4 cup water.
I also try new charoset recipes each year till I find a favorite. This year we did Indian style and Persian style. And every year, I end up with way too much. 😂
Second picture is our Seder plate. We include a few extra things not seen in the classic/strictly traditional plate, such as oranges (for queer Jews, and we ritually spit the seeds or pulp) and artichokes (for multicultural and interfaith families). And, of course, since I’m a vegetarian, there’s a beet instead of a shank bone!
Now, I don’t want to get very personal on this account because it’s strictly for my food adventures, but as a firm boundary: Messianics and Jews for Jesus have no place on this page, don’t follow me if you’re one of those groups. Thanks.
Hoping you had a lovely Passover if you observed. Thank you for reading!

Hi! I saw your tags about being allergic to apples and concerned about charoset this year. I'm Ashkenazi but my mom usually makes a Sephardi style charoset recipe for Passover just because we like it better. https://www.seriouseats.com/sephardic-style-haroset-recipe This is a similar recipe. Apple-free and delicious!! It is different from the "traditional" version you may be used to, but it's just a different tradition, and IMHO it actually better resembles mortar in texture so it works more effectively as a symbol! Hope this is helpful!!
Someone else's tags on their reblog of my post, sorry! But hoping the person who got it in reblog chain from me and tagged it that way sees it!
