July 21st 2024 - My queerplatonic partner convinced me to buy Spiritfarer and it is REALLY fun and addictive. It’s so beautifully animated and always urges you to keep playing. I’m loving it so far and can easily see myself sinking dozens of hours into it!

I love watching the sun rise and fall throughout the day, it is exceptionally pretty. And the characters are so sweet too. It’s such a comforting game to pick up and play for hours, and lose myself from reality to the wonderful world in the game.

I don’t think there was anything that could prepare me for the violent, gut-wrenching grief the game Spiritfarer caused me when I first played it. Like going into it I knew what it was about and it still caught me off guard with how human and gentle it is. Sprout, Scout, Honeybee, Munchkin, Peanut, Bambina, Bella, Little One, Big Hat, Commander... Stella was so much to so many people and she didn't need to speak once to communicate her love and care.

The futality of it all... The fact we tried so hard to save them this time but we couldn't stop them from meeting their fate once more... Only take them there and give them one last hug... And they never left us! They watch us and guide us from the stars!

And not even the psychopomp is forever, Charon went before us and now it's our turn but it doesn't feel like it should be it feels like we have so much more to do but we died young and so we must join them while we are still young and our sister is always there with us but only at night when nobody else is and always through the flowers and words she leaves us because that's the only thing the dead can hold onto.

Do you think our boat was filled with flowers too when we left? Do you think it was daffodils?

I've gotten back into playing Spiritfarer, and it reminded me of this sketch I did back in April or May when grim reaper Bad was becoming a thing. The design is based off of the game's Charon.

cozy games for spooky people

i'm a tried and true cozy gamer and i also love halloween, and upon dicussing with a friend i figured i'd make a little list of cozy games i've played that have a good vibe for spooky season. disclaimer that i am a sucker who likes most games so proceed with caution and watch gameplay reviews. what these games all have in common is that they are spooky and i like them :)

cozy grove - a real time game a la acnh or dreamlight valley that has you fulfilling the post-death wishes of your neighbors (spirits) that appear to you as bears.

wytchwood - this is essentially a fetch quest game with some crafting mechanics, but the art style is like out of a storybook and it kind of feels like if over the garden wall came to life. an interesting story at the heart of it too!

little witch in the woods - what it says on the tin: you're a witch, you're in the woods. farming sim elements but you're the wizard in the tower

potion permit - i'll admit i haven't actually played this game yet but it's been in my library forever because of this aspect of the story: you're an alchemist and the townspeople HATE you because of what previous alchemists have done to their town.

spiritfarer - technically this one's not as spooky but this is my favorite game of all time so on here it goes. a heartwrenching, beautiful, cathartic story where you play as stella, who takes over for charon, ferrying souls into the afterlife. also this soundtrack is simply incredible

the cosmic wheel sisterhood - this is more of a visual novel but it's great. you play as fortuna, a witch 200 years into a 1000 year exile, who makes a deal with a behemoth to end it early. you dictate your own future as well as that of your coven with EVERY single choice you make

graveyard keeper - i also haven't actually played this one but it's in my library and it comes recommended! management sim but you're managing a graveyard, enough said

wylde flowers - one of the most unique farming sims i have ever played. you move back to manage your aging grandmother's farm....except surprise! you're also a witch, and you have to learn magic and fix whatever's going on in the island as well as manage your farm

My favorite video game is Spiritfarer!!! 💚💙🩵💜

It's a cozy game, where you play Stella, who is replacing Charon as the spiritfarer. Your voyage requires finding spirits, all of whom are connected to Stella in some form or other. You find out their preferred foods to cook and do quests for them, to help them cross over through the Everdoor.

The characters are all wonderful or loving or harsh or funny or irritating or maddening all of these at different times. They all have different things to say to Stella as she brings them to the Everdoor, and no matter how many times I play, I still end up crying. 💔💔💔

And HADES

"Whispered words, a simple question: Why did you choose this life, Stella? Why did you spend it ushering others through their final moments? Was your vocation and affectionate duty born of compassion? Or a display of selfishness, of everlasting uncertainty? ... Am I less daunting now? Or am I still a ghostly shadow, a deafening absence?"

I never get tired of this game🩵💚💜💙💜💙🩵💚🩶🖤💜🩵🖤🖤 maybe it's my shitty memory, but it doesn't matter how much I read the dialogue. I still get hit or carried like I'm playing for the first time 🩶🩷🤍

A twst spiritfarer au would be surprisingly simple but so very heartbreaking

Collecting your old friends, hearing their story all over again until they ask to finaly move on, being the one to guide them

I can see Crowley being the last and first one, unlike Gewn, fuse him with her and Charon, the old guide now "guiding you" in your "new job"

Hearing your friends griefs and hardships, some reaching closure with themselves and their life, others not as much, their relationships, the lives they left behind

Hugging them

Singing with them

Playing with them for the minigames

Riddle helping around with the pomar and giving a bust in the helping hands

Leona sleeping around deck but when happy he gives you jewels and candy, him being stingy with hugs but his farewell being the warmest looking hug of them all

Azul helping you around the kitchen sometimes

Jamil helping most in the kitchen and dancing with you when you sing/play songs wich busts moral

Vil making you clothes and helping with the shops prices by pure intimidation

Idia helping upgrading the boat and being him to ask for game night, him being startled by the hugs but still loving them

Malleus not sleeping at all and moving during all the days and nights, him being the one who gives you rare/old artifacts

Could even be more heartbreaking if They died before their time, they died in their overblot and you, with grim's

Riddles mourns not knowing you properly in life

Leona mourns not even knowing who you are properly besides rumors

Azul hates knowing he couldn't beat you bc he underestimated you

Jamil saddens whe he notices how little he personally knew you

Vil is so found of his small time with you in his team

Idia didn't even knew your name

Ortho wishes he could have hangout with you

Malleus pours his heart in the nights you spend together there, he remembers foundly, lovely even, your time together in life
