Uhhh i have. An essay abt bojack horseman. Not an essay more like a paragraph. Spoilers. Obviously.
So, I wanted to talk about season 2, episode 8. Aka. "Let's find out." To me personally it felt out of place (as someone who's watched the show quite a few times.) It obviously didn't feel as rushed as the last season, but it seriously just felt out of order, and the charecters were being very confusing, at least in my opnion.
First off, bojack. He seemed mostly in charecter for the episode. But just in my opnion it would be highly unlikely for him to actually listen to Wanda, with the way he would most likely (compared to past AND future situations) carry his "im finally winning something. Why would I give that up now." Attitude. I feel like even if he loved her like he clearly did. He would never lose and be embarrassed like he was by Mr. PeanutButter for her. I mean, let's be real. It's SEASON TWO bojack.
Secondly, Mr. PeanutButter. I feel he was horribly condensending in this episode. And you can semi-tell he had a diffrent attitude then normal. But with the upside that took place before, this is reasonable. But I feel that if Mr.PeanutButter knew about bojack kissing diane. He would've asked him MUCH earlier. I mean, specifically waiting until their infront of most likely almost a thousand people? While a few seasons later defending bojack and not saying a word during the Sarah Lynn case? It doesn't add up to me. I feel it was just a lazy plot development for the writers. But it's ok in the episode in itself. I just DONT understand the personality change.
Lastly (because this is a shorter essay.) Todd. In the episode he starts off normal-ish. But then again in the previous episode he went through a traumatic event. Even if not mentioned again. But around the middle/end he just becomes. A jerk. I personally just never beilive that he would pull a trick like the one he did on the mouse woman (i forgot her name if im being honest. But the rest of his shenanigans seem pretty in place to me personally.
If you have anything or add or a diffrent opnion, please reblog! I love talking about bojack! And I'll probably be posting more about it.

I think media literacy hasn't died because people don't look closely at a piece of art, I think it's died because people look WAY WAY WAY too closely at it, and assign things certain meanings the writer had never intended. Take Arcane Season 2 for example, especially with Violyn (Caitvi but better). That last scene where Vi tells Cait that she's "the dirt under your nails," is simply Vi's way of saying that Cait is "stuck" with her and that she's not leaving Cait, no matter what. But for some ass backwards reason people are saying that "Oh my God did she just say she was dirt to her oppressor!!! WTF!!! THEY RUINED HER!!!" Like, what, seriously what kind of logic is that. Yeah I get it class is a major part of Arcane but if that's all your thinking Arcane is then clearly you've missed out on everything else it has to offer, and this is coming from someone who only got into the series 5 months ago. I have never seen so many braindead takes about a single show since Rings of Power it's insane. And yeah do I wish the season went on a bit longer to flesh out more of the story and charecters, yeah of course. Are there things to criticize or critique in media, absolutely, nothings perfect. But to continually BLOW THESE CRITICISMS OUT OF PORPORTION is not criticism, it's sensationalism for clicks

Belated happy halloween! Submitting a request for more of your thoughts about the difference between Dark Romanticism and Gothic literature in Frankenstein? I am an amateur researcher who loves Mary Shelley while at the same time I'm not so keen on the monstermash side of gothic lit, is why I'm curious.
Oh DUDE get ready for a wall of text.
Mary Shelly's Frankenstien is one of the pieces that is often lumped in with the Gothic movement and the Romantisism movement. What most people do not know is that the Gothic and Romantisism movements had a baby named Dark Romantisism. (A topic I took upon myself to learn as much as possible about.) It began in the 18th century and carried on into the mid to late 19th century BUT like the Gothic movement it persists in many works today (like batman).
Many people credit Poe's contributions to the Dark Romantisism genre while entirely ignoring Shelley's MASSIVE influence on the genre! Even in academic settings.
Before we truly begin defining the genre crossing nonsense of Frankenstein we need to define the differences between Gothic and Dark Romantisism. The main tenants of Gothic Literature of the time (with some exceptions I'm sure) were as follows:
1) The setting, the main necessity for a Gothic setting is the mood. Giant cathedrals with complex labyrinths that could devour one whole. Castles dusty and filled with the ghosts of the past. Or in southern Gothic a much later addition to the genre, old rotting plantations filled with old men holding onto their wealth through unsavory means.
2) Horror, terror, and the sublime. I am sure you know the difference between horror and terror and understand how that factors in, but I will define the sublime. In this case we will define the sublime as that feeling when you see something beautiful and impossible. Something to big to quite put into words.
3) Transgressive subject matter, critiquing the church, critiquing men. Incest, SA, gore!
The Romantisism movement and the Gothic movement critiqued each other. Romantisism is full of fairytales and isn't real art, Gothic is too macabre, you get the picture.
But when they finally mixed as they were always going to, you get my beloved, Dark Romantisism which tenants are:
1) Themes of the beauty of nature, science going to far, and the beauty of the horror of the human mind. (Sublime psychology if you will.)
2) Mood, screw realism. The weather and environment match how the charecter feels. The symbolism is intense. It's full of mystery and gloom and beautiful nature scenes. And the horrible things humans do to each other! And how it goes wrong.
3) Torture, most every Dark Romantisism story is filled with it, whether emotional or physical. See the Rappanicis Daughter or The Birthmark as examples.
SO there was alot of overlap! And Shelley's work was often both. Frankenstien, I believe, is more Dark Romantisism then Gothic. There are the themes that are more wholly Dark Romantisism. There is some incest but both parties seem uninterested in pursuing it without the pressure of their parents. (Also Mary Shelley I believe was good friends with Lord Byron and Mr. Frankenstein is nothing if not a Byronic "hero". Byron had quite the history with incest.) But the true horror comes from the inner working of Mr. Frankenstein's mind, his obsession that he calls a "sickness" to my favorite framing device Robert Walton (in either the 1816 or 1830 version I cannot remember which.)
The setting is far from constraining to Mr. Frankenstien, he travels the world. He is always outside, in nature, with the environment being effected by his mood. It's all mountain tops and college dorms and dank cramped interiors of ships.
ALSO ALSO ALSO
Dark Romantisism has some heavy scifi elements as it developed as a genre, AND MARY SHELLEY INVENTED SCI FI WITH FRANKENSTEIN. Her work pulled Dark Romantisism down the path it went down practically single handedly!!! It was a defining work of the genre! A genre that echos through works today- The Hunger Games, The Matrix, and Batman!
But, Frankenstein is always solely labeled as Gothic, which it was technically, but it was also Dark Romantisism.

Okay so I've noticed people critiquing the Spanish in Miguel O'hara fanfics and the British Black sling for Hobie. I'm not sure what to do for the British sling for the fanfic I want to post about because I'm black/native and live in the South and have only met 2 British people in my life and they are both white. I've tried to find British sling generators and they suck so I what imma do is just study some black British. YouTubers and see if I can get get down the lingo enough to make it sound natural.
Now for Miguel I actually might have an ace in the hole since my familie's business recently got large Spanish speaking clientele due to me changing our menu to Spanish. And I have spanish speaking friends and family. Irish on the other hand I have an abundance of friends and teachers of Irish descent to can get info from since oddly most of my white friends are of Irish descent.
For the record: I know very little Spanish and can understand and read it way more than I can speak it....But I've learned some things and I want to see if I'm right.
1. Every country has a different dialect. For example Venezuelan and Spain Spanish sounds different from for example Domincan and Mexican Spanish.
2. Spain Spanish is considered 'proper' Spanish and if not favored amongst other Spanish speaking communities. Spaniards are like the British of Spanish essentially. (My black people out there already know since it's like Proper or British English vs the different varieties of Aave)
3. If you have to use a translator DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE. Google translate is apparently painfully proper and sometimes does not make since when translated from proper/aave English. Find a different translator as Spanish speaking readers can tell immediately.
4. Miguel is Irish/ Mexican. Irish people actually have their own different dialects that differs in every region. They have different languages spoken in Ireland as well.
5. I'm assuming mixed people of Irish/Mexican descent would appreciate them both featured in fanfics. Maybe?
6. I think for my black people out there that live in America at least if we struggle with black British sling we could lean on black aave in different states that sound similar to it. I feel like Baltimore aave might work. I grew up in Detriot and in the current southern state I'm in and it sounds similar depending on the pronunciation of words. (Btw white people out there who don't have many black friends or people that's live around you, aave or african amercan vernacular English sounds different in every state. For example look up Louisiana aave and New York aave and you will understand) I feel like for black writers our normal aave but just stronger could work as well for Hobie.
So as a takeaway, if you want your fics to read a bit easier for your black, British, and Spanish speaking readers, ya might want to do a bit of research. Or maybe make your own universe version of that charecter. I thought about making a Southern Hobie Brown since I have a friend I want to base him off as he reminds me of Hobie so freaking much. From the dark liner and choker to the constantly critiquing the government and authoritarian figures and not like consistency in certain areas on his life. So yeah that's what I got.
If anyone wants to add on and give some more tips to make my fics better, let me know. I'll be posting soon. Also tell me if I'm wrong.

just found your if and it looks soooo cool and interesting, I just wanted to give some feedback about the portrait of David Garcia, The Rider Of War.
all the others portray some power and menace of riders, but David looks like a cute fool and not like a rider of war) I just noticed that it through me of and I usually never critique things, but I really like your story and want the best.
I think the facial expression and features should show the charecters inner character more, like scars, the way they look at you, their posture and stuff like that.
This is intended with the best wishes in mind and no offense, I hope for your understanding, also apologies for my English it's not my native language.
First of thank you for the praises Anon 😁😁
Second, no worries Friend, heck Me and Kroz encourages this type of constructive criticism it will help us better accommodate our Readers and plot our story much more efficient in the future.
Now let's answer your ask.
Believe it or not Anon your already dead, David's knife has already got to you. You see David's role in the team is to misdirect. He's what you call the mask. The portrait did its job if it made you think that David is like a cute fool. Think of him as wolf in a lamb's disguise. Unpredictable, stalking you from the shadows, acting as your friend and ally. Before you know it, he will pounce and deliver the killing blow.
David is a man of many mask and personalities, hence he was named Conquest, he can destroy an organization from the inside by using chaos and discord. He loves to use the Divide and Conquer tactic.
Letting his enemies rips each other's throats out and not needing to lift a finger.
Hope this answered your ask Anon :) Also if you have more crticism or some of you have please share it with us :) and you only saw David's face but his body and sanity is a different thing entirely ;)

I’ve seen this everywhere on the internet
It’s the loving to hate stuff
(This is not a call out post, it’s just in general and what I’ve noticed. This post will be very negative so if you don’t want to read please scroll past)
When did it become so popular to hate stuff? Did I miss the memo? Every I look I see people hating on all sorts of medias
Particularly MCU and Riordan Verse
No let me be clear, there’s calling out and hating stuff like, the underlying sexism in RRVerese, or the things that are racist. Or in the MCU being made about how Natasha only got one movie, so on and so forth
That’s stuff that’s really wrong. And complaining about this is okay
To an extent. This stuff should bother everyone. But why is it the only thing some people go on about?
Don’t even get me started on people ‘critiquing’ media (evaluate (a theory or practice) in a detailed and analytical way.) Cause there’s critiquing, personal opinions, and then there’s hating
Critiquing is discussing something, like a plot line, and saying how maybe this would have enhanced the story and stuff, typically evidence would be appreciated. It’s not necessarily mean, more of an observation
There’s personal opinions. Everyone has one, but of yours are only negative upon a media/charecter/so on and so forth, why do you continue to partake in the media? I respectfully don’t understand. There’s been many times where I disliked something, maybe I’ll say I don’t understand this it’s not to my taste, and I leave it at that.
Then there’s just hating. This is really common on tik tok but it’s spreading here too. It’s the Person A hates this, so I’m going to hate it to without forming my own opinion. Soon this is just a mass of people repeating the same thing
This is not me saying stop doing these things (but the last one please make your own opinions) but why can’t we put the joy back into fandoms?
The stupid little headcanons that are used to fix flaws in the story, or just because you like it.
Little AU fics
Polite discussions
Harmless incorrect quotes
And other stuff. I haven’t seen a lot of just enjoyment of media in a while, and it’s kinda sad
When did the escape decided it needs to be more like reality?

Why'd you slide in rey being a Skywalker or Kenobi in there? Like some of these are valid critiques but like idk maybe the most fanservicey way to have these charecters be isn't necessary the right choice. Rey not being tied to a bloodline and Luke not being a bland generic mentor figure were really good choices imo, definitely not comparable to like... The racism of sidelining Finn and poe like
Me leaving the theatre December 17 2015: Wow! I can’t wait for Finn to become a Jedi and lead a storm trooper revolution, and Rey to be a skywalker/Kenobi, and Poe to be a main character with development and lead with Leia, and Luke helping his sister lead the new rebellion and train Finn and Rey. And Hux and Kylo and Phasma are gonna be an evil trio! So much cool stuff is gonna happen!

What about star?
Something about every terminator movie after T2 is that they all sprinkle really good or interesting elements into the movies…. Then do nothing with that and double down on some of the worst parts or completely neglect/change parts of the world because they can’t be bothered. One of the good parts of salvation, despite her not really getting much in terms of screen time and development is Star
Tumblr media
I mean look at her. I’d die for this kid oh my god. Anyway,
I don’t remember a lot of the movie right off the top of my head but something about her could have easily been utilized and made into a good part of the lore. I don’t remember if she was just mute or genuinely deaf but that could be used to a serious advantage by the ressistance
Skynet’s failing and Resistance adapting-
In the film Kyle and star develop there own little form of sign language to communicate. A lot of the technology we see is sound sensitive(for some reason) so it makes sense to be largely quite. This could be used to force skynet into a corner.
With all the constant laser fire, explosives, machinery overhead and not to mention Nukes a few years back in the timeline. It would be far easier for people to go deaf in this future. That could be a advantage to the resistance and human kind as a whole, infiltrators have shown the ability to imitate people’s voices- they can cry for help or in pain and have someone run along into their trap.
But what if they can’t hear the cries? What if they’re using a sign language far to human for the terminators to copy? What if they can’t pass as human as despite appearance they can’t follow the signs or move their hands in such a way?
A huge win for humanity and a huge push in changing/shaping skynet’s bots into something that would be far more interesting then…. Water snake…. And …. Sentient motorcycle… oh boy.
Tumblr media
Star could be pivotal in this. She’s already proven herself more then capable in weaponry and her senses are the best out of the bunch. You set up this little girl to be a constant in Kyles life from a young age, to be incredibly skilled and then do nothing with her so two grown men can bark and growl for two hours??? “She’s important but we’re not doing a thing with these two characters”
Not that it would do much now that this timeline has been ended/cut off at this movie. Which, while I like Star and young Kyle I’m not complaining because Bale and Kate Brewster are FAR from favorites.

Gone with the wind is good because the charecters are enjoyable to read even though they are hot messes
Gone with the wind is bad because racist
Gone with the wind is good because it's a human story and humans have both good and bad qualities
Gone with the wind is bad because the authors racism isnt just in the charecters but in the narrations
Gone with the wind is good because it provides an understanding, if not an acceptance of a different mindset
Gone with the wind is bad because you want to hit the main character
Gone with the wind is Good because you want to hit the main character

I agree with everything except for the part where you said Jedediah never got married
Jedediah married a woman named Abigail
But yes, I don't think Jedediah was gay irl
But, honestly, since I made this post, my opinion has changed
I think I was so caught up in trying to be historically accurate and trying to sound smart that I forgot why I shipped Jedtavius so much in the first place
If we're going to go off of complete accuracy to history, then I'm sorry to say it, but Jedediah was a racist asshole and Octavious was misogynistic
The reason why they weren't like that in the films is because the movies were for kids, it wouldn't make sense if two of the main protagonist's (especially two protagonist's loved by the audience) were bigots, it sends the wrong message to kids
If the movies were for young adults or adults then there would be no reason to dumb them down, but because they're for kids, they have to
That's what the fanfics are based off of, the movies, that's why we love them so much and that's why we ship them together, not because of the charecters they were based off of
Now, of course if you want to make a fanfic that's historically accurate, then do that, the writers of Night at the museum clearly did their best on making it historically accurate while also making it kid friendly, and you technically don't even have that boundary so you don't even have to try to make it kid friendly!
But don't be like me, don't get caught up in all your research that you end up critiquing others who are just trying to have fun, remember why you're doing all of this in the first place
Remember that fanfics are supposed to be fun, and you're not having fun then what are you doing?
I apologize if my original post made you feel like you weren't doing a good enough job, I was shitting on myself for not being historically accurate in my fanfic and I let it out on you guys
I'm sorry
I truly care about each and every fanfic and I don't care if it's historically accurate, you're all doing a great job, keep up the great work 🤗
Jedtavius fanfics confuse me
Correct me if I'm wrong, I got this information from my dad who is a historical geek (perfect for my research) but Ancient Rome isn't all cupcakes and rainbows when it comes to same sex couples
First off, you had to have a wife. And second, you could not, under any circumstances, be a bottom
Not even joking, if someone found out that you're a bottom you could literally lose status
And as all of you may know, for cowboys, being gay wasn't that big of a deal, of course if it was a romantic attraction then obviously that was a bad thing, but if you two were just having sex then it wasn't a big deal
So if we're going by historical accuracy, Octavious coming out and saying that Jed and him were together would be a bigger deal for Octavious than Jedediah

I am making a bet about the Nesta antis
I already know that when acosf comes out and we finally get Nesta as the protagonist and her pov. Instead of just admitting that they were wrong, they are going to say some crap like "SJM completely changed Nesta's charecter out of nowhere and did a 180 just to make her likable." Or " I don't think sjm did enough to make Nesta's charecter development believable" because they still refuse to acknowledge this book is NOT A REDEMPTION ARC. and they are going to critique it on that basis. Instead of looking at Nesta for who she is and she was never a villain of the story. They have this flawed image of who Nests is in their heads and what she wants and why she does what she does. And if sjm doesn't align the cannon Nesta with that they are going to critique her instead of themselves, when Nests stans have been calling them out for years.

I get that. Honestly I just don’t know how we diddnt even suspect it. Not a little.
Also also also I know this is so unrelated but can I ramble about a charecter I made for mine and a couple friends smp. All my friends are in another time zone and can’t talk and I don’t like talking to myself bc I allways know the response. And if u want to ofc, maybe possibly critique it.? You don’t have to of course but the only person I can tell rn is you and my mom so-
(Ur allowed to say no and if u don’t want me to write a paragraph about my stupid creeper man I won’t :))
Go right ahead man I dont give two shits :DD

Man,i really love your stuff and i hate how everyone is bashing you for being salty, even tho it's just what YOU think . To be honest i don't think luka is a very good charecter writing wise , i like him but , he's badly written really badly written , and lukanette is not my cup of tea either (tho , i understand the apeel, people should stop bashing others for what they prefer, this fandom is crazy .
I am glad you like my stuff.
Now, I disagree with you on one thing. Luka isn't badly written. He just hasn't been given a lot to be written about. I think he is one of the few characters that hasn't been impacted by bad writing. Thats my take on that.
As for salty, I am a firm believer in using Salt as a critique (not for bashing), and people can't handle criticism. The problem is, salt is not always seen as a critique and that is the problem. People always assume malice when there isn't any.
I think Luka given more traits and personality (maybe viewed with a alternate perspective outside of Marinette’s) could have some development and be an interesting character.
But... I doubt the writing staff will do that, why take the risk when a chunk of the fandom already loves him?

I saw someone mention critics throwing shade at Tom's acting the other day in one of your asks and watching an interview with him this morning, I just have to say: even just his general mannerisms are SO different when he's not acting and when he's playing Malcolm. He is madly talented. He gets in the skin of the character and changes. This character has episodes of mania. Maybe Malcolm's symptoms were confusing for the critics. Or maybe they're just dumb.
TV critics are the fucking worst like this isn’t even me being like “oh every show I stan is perfect and the reviewers are always wrong” bc if you’ve seen my posts abt some tv shows I watch you’ll know I’m not afraid to say when they suck but it’s the fact that tv critics don’t hide the fact that there are only certain types of shows and charecters they care abt (prestige drama, streaming or HBO). Like reading through tv reviews nowadays is just like wow what a coincidence every new network show is horrible, just like last season! And the only actor in the show that’s any good is one who has done prestige drama in the past??? Shocking.
ANYWAY yeah Tom’s great in the show, I can understand he over acts a bit sometimes but I think that’s fair for a charecter like Malcolm (ppl give the same critique to Bellamy but like how tf are you supposed to portray Jessica if ur not putting every ounce of Drama in ur every word).

Ok first of all if your coffee shop au has murder in it is doesn’t matter because it’s ducking fanfiction.
The problem is when in a show these awful nasty charecters that kill people just cause they can are give half assed redemption arcs for a half assed reasons like
They were sad cause a friend/ family member died
Their some how related to the protagonist and even if their abusive you should forgive them cause their family
They were abusive victims so we should ignore the murder and let them do whatever
There’s so much more and so much of these shitty redemption arcs have been popping up since Avatar did Zuko (who btw only needed to learn he was wrong he never went to horrifying extreme)
I’ve seen this post so many times critiquing Lily Orcard for making imaginary rules and then the people who comment on it turn around and scream about how tragic Kylo Ren is or how the Dimonds in Steven Universe did nothing wrong
Tumblr media
Keeps my OC’s body count at 9,999 innocent lives so I can write a 100k word coffee shop AU fanfic of her without breaking the rules
