How Does Loki Celebrate Christmas?
Tumblr media
Interviewer: Good tidings, everyone! Today, we have a peculiar guest with us—none other than the God of Mischief himself, Loki. Welcome, Loki!
Loki: Thank you for having me. I must say, this is quite an unexpected invitation. What festive mischief do you have in mind?
Interviewer: Well, since it's the holiday season, we thought it would be interesting to learn how the God of Mischief celebrates Christmas. Loki, do you partake in the festivities of Midgard during this time of the year?
Loki: Ah, Christmas, a time when Midgardians come together in the spirit of joy and merriment. I suppose I've been known to indulge in the festivities, in my own unique way.
Interviewer: Could you elaborate on what your version of Christmas looks like?
Loki: Of course. Picture this: A grand hall adorned with decorations, shimmering lights, and an intricately decorated tree with baubles that reflect my impeccable taste. I may not be the jolly man in red, but I've been known to don a festive ensemble or two. As for gifts, well, I prefer surprises and cleverly crafted pranks. It adds a certain... Loki flair to the holiday.
Interviewer: It sounds like you bring your mischievous charm to the Christmas celebrations. Are there any specific traditions or activities you particularly enjoy during this time?
Loki: I do appreciate the art of gift-giving, albeit with a twist. There's nothing like the joy of watching someone unwrap a present, uncertain of what awaits them. I also find the concept of hanging stockings amusing, though the contents may be more unpredictable when under the influence of a mischievous god.
Interviewer: And what about feasting? Do you indulge in the traditional Christmas feast?
Loki: Ah, feasting! One of the few things Midgardians and Asgardians can agree upon. I appreciate a well-laid table and a feast fit for a king. As for the menu, I enjoy the variety of earthly delights—turkey, roast, and an assortment of sweets. Though, I must admit, my taste may be a bit more refined than the average mortal.
Interviewer: It seems you have a festive spirit of your own, Loki. Any holiday messages or wishes you'd like to share with our audience?
Loki: To all the inhabitants of Midgard, whether you find yourselves on the naughty or nice list, may your holidays be filled with surprises, laughter, and a touch of mischief. Remember, in the grand tapestry of existence, there's always room for a bit of chaos.
Interviewer: Thank you, Loki, for giving us a glimpse into your unique Christmas celebrations. Wishing you a season filled with enchantment and, of course, a touch of mischief.
Loki: The pleasure was all mine. Happy holidays to all, and may the merriment continue!

Character Interview II: Growing Up
UI: Alright, are you ready for the second part of the interview, Mr. Blackwood?
Leo: Yeah, let’s get started. And please just call me Leo.
UI: Okay, Leo, you mentioned that your parents, Ellis and Laura, their jobs and what they were like generally. How do you think they were as parents specifically?
Leo: They have been great parents, to be honest. I know being in the industry there’s always a lot of talk about how famous people might spoil kids too much or not be around a lot; I think there’s no way to fully know what you’re doing, it’s not like there’s a manual of how to raise your kids. But I have to say my parents did a great job balancing their work with having a family and a normal routine for us.
UI: Were your parents strict?
Leo: Not really. I mean they were strict enough with generally normal things; keeping up with school, having good grades, being a good kid. They definitely made a lot of emphasis on making both me and my brother that we are very lucky and privileged and know that all of this takes hard work; they didn’t want neither me or my brother grow up to be, you know, the typical rich spoiled rich kid.
UI: Which of your parents dealt with bad behavior most often? What did they prefer when it came to parenting?
Leo: Probably mom, I mean they both did in different ways but mom was… I guess you can say the first one who would take action if we ever got in trouble; she would be the first one to give me a lecture and ground me. While my father is generally the quiet, calm one; he would wait a little bit before he talked to me alone to make me understand whatever I did wrong.
UI: Did they ever get psychical with you or your brother?
Leo: No, never.
UI: Did you get in trouble a lot?
Leo: Not really, I mean I’m not perfect; I was a teen, I’m sure I was stupid at some point but it was never something huge.
UI: Okay, we’re doing the same dynamic we did before; can you close your eyes and tell me what the earliest memory that you can remember is?
Leo: Oh I don’t even need to close my eyes, (smiles); it’s the day I got to be in one of my mother’s films, I was about six years old I think and my mom was in this film and they needed a kid to play her kid and immediately she thought who else would be more perfect than her own kid. I remember reading lines with her, I didn’t have many dialogs; I didn’t even think it was a real job, I just though “Oh cool, I’m playing with my mom.”
I remember watching her perform as the camera started rolling, I had a seat next to the director and I just remember seeing her… and thinking how amazing she was, how graceful. The director glanced at me and let me see the screen he was looking at; you know to see his perspective and I remember feeling important; in my head I thought I was directing for a minute. And when her scene ended she looked at me and gave me a big smile as she walked towards me and called me her little director. I didn’t know then I would end up exactly that… she still calls me that some times.
UI: Can you list all of the schools that you went to? What was each like?
Leo: Sure. I went to Brentwood School for all my basic education from Elementary to High School; it was a normal school really. It’s one of the best private schools in Los Angeles area, my parents thought it was the best choice for my safety and everyone else. Being the child of famous actors can be difficult, so my parents thought it was just the best to be in a school that were more used to these things. It was a nice school, I can’t say much really; school is school, kids hate being stuck in a classroom for the most part. But I made good friends and had all the normal experiences a kid can have at school. It was good. (Laughs).
UI: What was your favorite subject in school? Why?
Leo: Other than the arts workshop, I took a course we had in school for photography and obviously that was my favorite thing in the world but I feel like that’s an obvious answer. Other than that I would have to say English and literature, I love reading; I tended to create a movie in my head for every book we had to read or every essay we had to write.
UI: What was your least favorite subject in school? Why?
Leo: Biology; it’s not that I hated all of it but I dreaded the times we had to dissect frogs and stuff like that. First of all, that’s animal cruelty and second of all I’m kind of squeamish with animal’s insides. (Chuckles)
UI: As a kid, how do you think people would describe your personality?
Leo: Generally nice? (Laughs) I don’t know, I mean I had friends, I loved to run around all the time and joke but I wasn’t like a class clown; I suppose people liked me for the most part, I never had issues with anyone that I can remember at least.
UI: As a teenager, how do you think people would describe your personality?
Leo: Well I won’t most likely to bright up your day in High School, does that help? (laughs) As narcissistic as it sounds, I swear I’m not trying to, (chuckles), I was a popular kid; I liked making friends and helping people when they had issues if I could.
UI: Would you say you were the most popular kid in school?
Leo: Uhm… I suppose I was somewhere in that area.
UI: Did your class voted for you on that? Were you prom king or anything like that?
Leo: Yeah… (laughs) This is weird. I don’t mean to sound like an asshole.
UI: You’re not (laughs)
Leo: Okay, great. (chuckles)
UI: How did you do socially in school? What ‘cliques’ did you socialize with?
Leo: I was never like a clique type of a guy or at least I didn’t care too much for it; I was in a sport’s team so I got to hang out with the jocks, I was also in arts so I was around artsy kids obviously. Generally, I just like to be friends with people I shared things in common and you know, I could get along with. I did hated people who thought were bullies or liked to make others less; I went to a good school though where people got along, there were one or two people who liked to create issues but it wasn’t as bad as other’s schools could be.
UI: Who were your friends as a kid?
Leo: Toby Jenkins was my best friend from like Elementary school up until now really; we’ve been great friends ever since we were kids, our parents are in the Industry and they are actually friends so we grew up to be like brothers. There was this other kid called Samuel Hill, we were really close up until we were like twelve years old because that’s when he moved to Japan because of his father’s job and we kind of lost touch. Emma Moore was also a good friend of mine, she moved to New York when we were around thirteen or fourteen; we still keep in touch, Toby used to have the biggest crush on her (laughs).
UI: Who were your friends as a teenager?
Leo: Toby, obviously. Aaron Wood, he moved from Canada when we were around sixteen, we got along pretty well; we’re still pretty close. I was also really close to Danielle Avery; she was a student at my school and also and actress, she was a friend and we dated in High School.
UI: Are you still close to Danielle?
Leo: Not really, sometimes we run into each other but we don’t have a really close relationship anymore; it just happens with relationships but it’s not something dramatic.
UI: What did you think of school generally speaking?
Leo: I don’t really have much thought about it. Of course, it’s important to get your basic education and that’s kind of a way you learn to socialize; it’s the place where you start trying to find out who you are, I suppose. I had a general good experience; I made great friends and gathered great memories. But I won’t lie and say that I loved sitting for ours during class every day. I was a normal kid. (Chuckles)
UI: What is your worst memory from school?
Leo: I don’t really have any sort of traumatic memory or experience from school, I think I was lucky enough to not get bullied and even if someone tried I was the type to not let people mess with me. So yeah… if anything a sad moment I believe would be my first heartbreak which was me breaking up with my first girlfriend, I was fifteen and she basically decided she liked basketball guys instead of football so she dumped me for another guy and that hurt. Teen years man (chuckles).
UI: What is your best memory from school?
Leo: Prom and Graduation for sure; that sounds so cliché I know but It was probably the best part of it; you know after studying hard so many years you finally are over with that part of your life, I was so eager to start with my life and going to college to prepare for something I knew I loved. Seeing my parents proud and obviously celebrating that with my friends, it’s just a wonderful experience.
UI: What did you think that you wanted to be while growing up?
Leo: Uhm… I know when I was really young like five or six I wanted to be Spiderman, you know he’s very strong and can climb buildings and he loved taking photographs so it kind of checked all the awesome boxes for me. (Laughs) As I got older I thought I wanted to act like my parents but soon I realized I didn’t have the heart for it and realized I was really interesting in photography and filming, It didn’t take me long before deciding I wanted to be a director.
UI: What was your favorite thing to do as a child?
Leo: I loved playing video games and running around outside, I started loving photography pretty early on, I think I was seven or eight when  I got my first camera and I carried that with me everywhere I went.
UI: What was your favorite thing to do as a teenager?
Leo: Hanging out with my friends and girlfriend, video games and photography. Nothing changed much (laughs)
UI: Do you think that school properly prepared you for your job? Why or why not?
Leo: I mean… I guess it might have given me some basic tools for it but it was really me learning on my own cuz I loved it and also when I went to college that was like the real in depth learning process for me.
UI: Do you think that you got most of your skills or abilities from school? How so, if so? If not, where did you get them?
Leo: College definitely thought me a lot but I’m also a very curious person so I taught myself a lot of things simply because I liked to do research on things I was curious about or saw other directors or photographers doing when I was around my parents’ jobs.
UI: Who did you look up to while you were growing up? Why?
Leo: My parents, they are very passionate about their work but acting is not the only thing they did; they knew how privilege they are and they always made sure to use the platform and the voice they had to create change and give to people who are less fortunate; I just think they are amazing human beings and that’s exactly the type of person I want to be.
UI: Who do you think from the past had the most influence on you as a person now?
Leo: Uhm… that’s a hard question to answer. I think every single person you came in contact with through your life leaves you a lesson; good or bad, it helps you shape into whoever you are today. If I had to pick anyone it would be my parents for the same reason I mentioned in the previous question.
UI: You’ve talked about your immediate family. Is there anyone in your extended family that you were in contact with or were close to? Why or why not?
Leo: I have an uncle, brother of my mother who’s a photographer; he’s won awards for it and he shared his passion with me when I was a kid. We got really close because our common interest. He’s always around all the time; he’s always been there for us.
UI: Is there anyone outside of your blood that you consider family?
Leo: Love Bryant. We’ve known each other for a long time now, we’ve seen each other and supported each other in the best and worst moments of our lives; she’s like a sister to me.
UI: Have you had your first kiss already? If so, when? Who did you have it with? How did it happen?
Leo: My first kiss was with a girl named Jenny, when I was around eleven; it was during a spin the bottle game. A little awkward you know, we were little kids and it happened in front of a lot of other kids who kept teasing us. Childhood. (laughs)
UI: Have you had intercourse? If so, when was the first time? Who did you have it with? How did it happen?
Leo: Like most American man my age, yes I’ve had sex before.(chuckles). My first time was with my high school girlfriend, Danielle, we were sixteen or seventeen years old and my parents had to go away for a weekend and trusted me enough to look after myself for two days… Danielle came over to hangout, one thing led to another and we ended up losing our virginity that night.
UI: To close out now that you’ve looked at your growing up, how would you describe your childhood in general?
Leo: Happy, I honestly don’t have anything to complain about; I was… I am a lucky guy. I never lacked anything, I didn’t have any really terrible experiences; except for the way my previous relationship ended but I see those things as normal things that might happen in life. So yeah, I’ve had a good life so far.

Character Interview III: Past Influences
UI: Alright, this interview is starting off intense. Sorry about that. Are you ready?
Eva: Sure, go ahead.
UI: What would you consider the most important event of your life so far?
Eva: My mother’s death.
UI: That was one of the fastest answers. Why did you pick that as the most important one?
Eva: Because that event alone changed my whole life; I wasn’t the same person I was before that occurred. It took me a long time to figure out who I was and how to move on with my life after my mom died. It didn’t affect only me, it affected my father’s life and my whole family… It’s just… there’s no way to getting back to where you were before when those things happen.
UI: Who do you think has had the most influence on you?
Eva: My father; I know my mother did as well and I know that… I have a lot to thank her for and I’m so grateful for the time I had with her but sadly, after she passed; it was my father who had to raise me and help me get through extremely difficult times. I can only imagine what it’s like losing the woman you love and then watching your daughter fall into depression while you’re dealing with your own. Yet, he pulled it through. He shaped me into who I am today.
UI: What do you consider your greatest achievement and why?
Eva: My greatest achievement; I think maybe becoming an advocate for women in Mexico. Once, I started acting and I started being recognized there and I saw I had this platform I became really vocal about the reality of what it’s like to be a woman there or anywhere… for that matter, and deal with being treated differently and feeling so insecure in your own town just because you’re a woman. I think women everywhere can relate to that but since I can only talk about my own experiences in my own country, I was glad to speak about it to try and create change.
UI: What do you consider your biggest mistake?
Eva: I think, maybe posing for Maxim Mexico when I was younger.
UI: Why?
Eva: I don’t judge women who did or are still willing to do it. But… knowing what I know now and seeing this incredible movement of change women have been fighting for even more loudly in recent years; for me, I wish I hadn’t done it. It didn’t added anything real value to my career or my persona, it wasn’t like a real groundbreaking interview or anything it was just me being photographed in not that much clothing just to be sexualized by other men. Again, I’m fully supportive of women being proud of their bodies and having the right to do whatever they want… but I think those magazine don’t do anything other than give men more reasons to only see us as… a hot body.
UI: What is your biggest regret? Why?
Eva: It’s not a full regret, sometimes I go back and forth about it but it’s the only thing that in my hands that I probably regret at least a little bit; which is moving here.
UI: Why?
Eva: I like it here and I came here to pursue a career here, which I do not regret. But soon after I moved my father was diagnosed with Cancer; he’s been fighting it for a while now and since I live here and my job is here, I’m not able to see him every day and check on him. Sometimes it’s hard knowing that he might be having a difficult time and I’m not there 24/7.
UI: Has he told you that he needs you there?
Eva: Oh no, I’ve talked about this with him and he refuses to let me move back. I do go to Tijuana every other weekend to check on him though.
UI: If you could change that, would you?
Eva: Moving here?
UI: Yes.
Eva: I don’t know, I have mixed feelings about it.
UI: Would you change anything else from your past?
Eva: If there were any way for me to change the past and keep my mother from getting killed, I would in a heartbeat.
UI: What do you think is objectively the worst thing that you’ve ever done? Why?
Eva: Hmm… I don’t think there’s anything I’ve done that I think it’s truly bad or evil. If I’m honest… I mean, I know a lot of it… if not most of it… wasn’t in my control at first but I think I always regret quite a bit how I pretty much closed off to anyone and anything after my mother died. It would have made things a lot easier on my father for sure.
UI: Do you have any criminal record?
Eva: No, I don’t.
UI: When was the last time you were frightened?
Eva: When my father was first diagnosed with cancer.
UI: When was the last time you experienced bliss?
Eva: Oh… (Smiles softly) I don’t know. I think you experience bliss every day, if not almost every day, in little ways and even for short moments. And sometimes that bliss is a person, recently I met someone who… it’s honestly out of this world; he makes me smile every time I see or talk to him.
UI: When was the last time you felt devastated?
Eva: Probably a few months ago, I went spent a few days with my father; he had a few session of intense treatment and usually those things make the patience feel a lot worse and sicker afterwards. Seeing my dad go through so much pain, he’s a proud man and he doesn’t like to be vulnerable; especially around his own daughter because he feels like he needs to be strong for me. Seeing him fight himself as he was clearly weak and sick… it’s just heartbreaking for me.
UI: When was the last time you felt hopeful/grateful?
Eva: About two weeks ago when my father’s doctor said he had some improvement. (Smiles)
UI: What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever experienced?
Eva: Probably when I was around nineteen years old, I got very drunk and threw up in front of a lot of people. I was a mess, my friends had to carry me out of the club and get me home. It was bad… but at least I learned what my limit was (laughs).
UI: What is your worst memory?
Eva: My mother’s funeral.
UI: What is your best memory?
Eva: My last birthday with both my parents, we went away for a weekend to a beach; I was even allowed to invite my best friends at the time and it was just incredible. I think because I know that was our last trip together I cherish that as the best memory in my mind.

Character Interview III: Past Influences.
UI: Alright, this interview is starting off intense. I’m sorry about that. Ready?
Leo: Sure, let’s go ahead.
UI: What would you consider the most important event of your life so far?
Leo: Oh god, yeah we’re starting off with very difficult questions… (Takes a small breath).  Uhmm probably, the day I found out I was going to be a father.
UI: You have a kid? (Interviewer checks the answers of previous questions asked)
Leo: No, I almost did.
UI: I’m sorry, what happened?
Leo: I was young, I was twenty one. My girlfriend at time got pregnant with my kid and sadly she lost it around the tenth week.
UI: I’m sorry.
Leo: (Smiles gently and nods)
UI: Okay, Who do you think has had the most influence on you?
Leo: My parents.
UI: Why your parents?
Leo: Because they taught me everything I know about how to be a decent human being, they have taught me how to handle myself and be someone in the industry with good morals, ethics and integrity which I think it’s very important in an industry where is very easy to get lost.
UI: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Leo: Career wise, probably so far making the film Rachel is Getting Married; It got a lot of attention and great critics which I really appreciate, it’s always incredible to see people liking your work. In my personal life, again I think the best is yet to come but I will say I’m just proud… now I’m not saying I’m perfect because I’m far from it but I’m proud that I’ve managed to stay me through all the good and bad times that I’ve had in my life.
UI: Okay, now… What do you consider your biggest mistake?
Leo: That’s a tricky question, I know I make mistakes but I’m the type of person that… how do I explain this?... (Thinks for a moment) I’m the type of person who will make mistakes but not really regret them; I suppose because I haven’t done… eh well, I don’t think I’ve done anything particularly evil or with the intention of hurting anyone which is something I would really great but anyway, I deviated.
I think possibly one of my biggest mistakes, though I know part of it wasn’t on me, it’s getting engaged to my ex.
UI: Why that?
Leo: I’m not saying this out of anger or bitterness, it’s been a long time and I’ve been able to heal and examinate all of it as well letting go off it but I guess… when you ask someone to marry you and start planning a life with them; you obviously expect them to be loyal to you like you’re being. Uhm, I guess now I know the ending of that I guess I wish I hadn’t trust her so blindly.
UI: Do you regret it?
Leo:  Actually… no.
UI: Why?
Leo: I’m a strong believer that things happen for a reason and every single event in your life leads you to be where you are today; and today I’m in a great place… dating someone who is so… amazingly perfect for me I… I almost can’t believe it’s true.
So If my past relationship and mistakes got me to her in any way… I would do it again.
UI: Do you have any regrets?
Leo: Not really, to be honest. Everything leaves you with some lesson and its little or big impact so yeah.
UI: Is there anything you would change anything else from your past if you could?
Leo: I don’t know, It’s not really something I like thinking about it because changing that one thing would change everything that I have now. Uhm… but I think if there would be any way I could have prevented Gisele from having a miscarriage I would have but then… that would change her life too so I’m not sure. I think it’s best to not thing about that stuff, in reality; there are not what ifs I could have… you know what I mean?
It was a terrible thing that happened but I can’t change it and despite that, I’m happy today. So is Gisele, so.
UI: What do you think is objectively the worst thing that you’ve ever done?
Leo: I don’t think… I’ve done anything particular bar. Perhaps there’s the fact that I broke up with someone because she hated on Christmas. (Chuckles) I joke around with that a lot but that wasn’t the only reason obviously we were really different and we were young. It wasn’t a big deal for her either. So I guess I don’t an answer for you.
UI: Do you have any criminal record?
Leo: No, I don’t.
UI: Role model citizen. (Laughs)
Leo: (Laughs) Nah, I don’t want to have the pressure on me.
UI: When was the last time you were frightened?
Leo: Last year, my father had a medical condition and that shook us.
UI: When was the last time you experienced bliss?
Leo: (Smiles to himself) Today.
UI: Today? What happened?
Leo: I stayed over at my girlfriend’s last night and we both had to do work and what not; we had a very normal routine, you know waking up and having breakfast getting ready before rushing out of the door… I don’t know that simple glance of how well we work together and how easy is to have a routine together… it just makes me happy having someone I love so much and that she loves me back just as much.
UI: When was the last time you felt devastated?
Leo: When I found out my ex was cheating on me while we were engaged.
UI: When was the last time you felt hopeful/grateful?
Leo: Today (laughs) every day I see Rachel I’m grateful for her.
UI: What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever experienced?
Leo: Uh, damn… uhm… probably the first time I got really really drunk (Laughs) I got so drunk I woke up the next day in a girl’s dorm uhmm (laughs a little more and shakes his head) Still to this day I don’t know why but I only had my boxers with me, the girl in the dorm was sleeping and she wouldn’t wake up… heavy sleeper I guess… so I had to walk back to my dorm wearing only that. It was… a real walk of shame. (Laughs)
UI: What is your worst memory?
Leo: They day we found out Gisele had lost the baby.
UI: What is your best memory?
Leo: I have a lot of those, I couldn’t possibly pick but one of the most recent; my first date with Rachel.
UI: Okay, that’s all for this portion of the interview. We’ll get ready for the next round of questions.

In early November, I was fortunate enough to be in the audience at the Gramercy Theater, New York, for Garrett Court’s live show to launch his new album, Young Hands, Old Hands, Same Strings. It was an amazing night of music from Garrett and, in fact, from all the musicians involved. I mean, who can resist Silver Lake’s Jake Power? One incredible new talent to take to the stage that night was a…

Character Interview II: Growing Up
UI: Ready to continue?
Eva: Yes. (Smiles)
UI: You mentioned that your parents, Ana and Daniel, their jobs and what they were like generally. How do you think they were as parents specifically?
Eva: They were good parents, both kind of strict when it came to school work; my mother was a teacher and my father is probably one of the smartest people I know, so they were constantly expecting and wanting me to excel at school, like any parent would want. My father is definetly the funny one, he’s always making joke although he has a temper at times. Mom was… this very vivid and wild woman, she was outspoken and she just wasn’t afraid to be herself… I have to say she was a little more patient than my father but they’re both incredible.
UI: Were your parents strict?
Eva: My father but really just a by a hair; he’s just extremely protective, especially after what happened to mom. It terrified him to think that the same thing happened to me so sometimes he was a little too strict when it came to things like going out to parties with friends and boys but it wasn’t anything too crazy.
UI: Which of your parents dealt with bad behavior most often? What did they prefer when it came to parenting?
Eva: Well, my dad; simply because mom passed away when I was getting to my teen years so; I think he got the rough years for sure. I wasn’t a terribly rebellious kid but you know, when you lose your mother at such a tender age… it was difficult, I went through depression and anxiety and it was a rough change for both of us, my dad had to learn how to talk to me about things mother’s would have to talk about. He was very patient though. I think also because he knew I was going through trauma he tried not to be too harsh when I really did screw up. But he was firm enough to ground me when I needed it; it was usually taking away privileges; allowance, not going out, no computer or something like that.
UI: Were you ever physically punished by your parents?
Eva: No… Well, I mean I probably got spanked once or twice when I was a child by my mom, which honestly is quite normal especially between Mexican families. But it’s not like you get beat up.
UI: Alright, Can you close your eyes again? Only this time, can you tell me what is the earliest memory that you can remember?
Eva: (Closes her eyes) it’s my fifth birthday; I wanted to have a Cinderella themed party, I remember my parents rented this like kids party place, there was a clown and a hotdog cart (laughs) a trampoline, which I wasn’t allowed to get on until after the photo session because my mom knew I was going to look a mess the minute I got onto that thing (laughs). I remember that day vividly somehow, I remember the cake and opening presents, playing with my cousins and friends; It was an amazing day… at the end I was so exhausted my mom had to carry me into the car when we left the party place, I remember cuddling with my mom in the backseat as my father drove to our home.
UI: Now, can you list all of the schools that you went to? What was each like?
Eva: Sure. Let’s see, I went to Instituto Valle Verde from like Kindergarden, Elementary and what we call Secondary school, which is sort of like middle school; that’s when from twelve or thirteen years old to fifteen years old. My mother worked there as an Elementary school teacher. It was a good school; school is school, there’s nothing outstanding I can think of right now except , I went there when my mom was killed, I remember people being very supportive after that happen which was very nice. For Preparatory school or what you guys call High School I went to Preparatoria Torre Blanca; to be honest, high school years or quite a blur for me, I was going through the loss of my mother, hormones, depression… it was a lot. But the school was okay, it was one of the best schools in my town, I think some cruel kids tried to bully me about what happened to my mother because well, assholes exist at any age but the school took action right away and expelled them.
UI: That is a lot for a young girl to deal with.
Eva: It’s a lot of anyone to deal with really… but yeah the fact I was going through all the changes you go through during that age and the trauma… it wasn’t easy; probably one of the darkest times of my life.
UI: Okay, changing to a lighter subject. What was your favorite subject in school and why?
Eva: I loved science and biology; you’re literally learning how everything in the world works, animals, the human body, elements… I just thought it was very fascinating.
UI: What was your least favorite subject in school?
Eva: Uh… tough question. I think probably… I mean it’s not that I hated it, I just didn’t like that one as much as other classes; probably history. You see at least up until my time, History lessons in Mexican schools focused a lot on Mexico’s own history which is not bad but I felt like we were forced to learn about the same thing over and over as opposed to learn a little more about the History of other countries and cultures, I think they could have expanded that a little bit more.
UI: As a kid, how do you think people would describe your personality?
Eva: My father says I was a very wild energetic kid; I was always running around, being very active. I didn’t like to sit inside my home much, I enjoyed things like watching TV and playing video games and dolls when I was younger but for the most part I enjoyed more being outside playing games that made you run around like crazy. (Laughs)
UI: As a teenager, how do you think people would describe your personality?
Eva: Oh… I don’t know. I think during my teen years many people, if not most of people, would look at me and just be like oh that’s the girl whose mom was murdered. I think definitely I was quieter back then because of what I was dealing with, I think people would say I was very reserved and could be somewhat distant.
UI: How did you do socially in school? Were you popular? What ‘cliques’ did you socialize with?
Eva: I think I was very friendly and I suppose a little more of a popular kid up until my mom died; again, after that I tried to keep my distance. Only because I didn’t like when people tried to talk to me or ask about what happened to my mom, I guess I was very reluctant of letting people see just how much I was hurting so I just became really private. I was still friendly though, just a little more quiet. Regarding cliques; I can’t quiet remember, I think I was among the popular kids but I wasn’t like the it girl or anything, I just was that girl that had popular-ish friends… I think people saw me as the smart of that group for the most part. (Chuckles)
UI: Who were your friends as a kid?
Eva: Well, there’s one girl that I’m still friends with, we met when we were around eight or nine; her name is Anabel, she was new at my school and I was the first one to talk to her. We became friends instantly and went to the same school until we graduated from High School. We still keep in touch. There was this other girl named Blanca, she changed schools I think when we were around eleven; kind of lost touch with her. And then there was this kid named Enrique, we knew each other from kindgergarden but lost touch at some point in High School.
UI: Why did you and Enrique lost touch?
Eva: Uhm… well, he confessed that he liked me, as more than a friend… and I didn’t feel the same way about him and the friendship just wasn’t the same since then.
UI: Okay, Who were your friends as a teenager?
Eva: Other than Anabel, there was this girl named Karina; we are still great friends all three of us. During my teen years I didn’t let many people too close to me so other than them, there was just Eric; who I stared dating when I was around seventeen.
UI: What happened to him?
Eva: Well, we broke up two years later. We just grew apart and went different ways; we didn’t want the same things so we broke up and lost contact.
UI: What did you think of school generally speaking?
Eva: Oh it’s a mix of many things. It had many great things, I really enjoyed school and I enjoyed being around my friends and going through all these normal experiences but after my mother died… it was just terrible. I know I did have good things during that time but I remember mostly being really bad and dark. It wasn’t bad all of it, I built friendships for a lifetimes and I fell in love for the first time but yeah; mixed emotions about it.
UI: What is your worst memory from school?
Eva: Probably losing my mom and having to go to school every day trying to go own with a normal life… I… I couldn’t really process or understand how I was supposed to move on and go to school as if something terrible hadn’t happened. It took me a while to be able to enjoy life in general again. A more specific moment would be those kids who tried to make fun of what happened to my mom, they were just… vicious; I mean who makes fun of pictures of someone’s dead mother? It’s… it was sick.
UI: What is your best memory from school?
Eva: Probably graduating. It just felt like… I honestly just felt like I managed to survive this really dark era of my life and after what it felt like a century of pure struggle I made it to this other side. It felt like closure for sure; I even my father crying a little bit during the graduation ceremony and I knew it wasn’t just because I graduated school but because I made it through hell… we both did.
UI: What did you think that you wanted to be while growing up?
Eva: Actually not many people know this but at some point I considered being a doctor; I was always a really good student and I loved all the subjects that you needed to be good at to get into Medical School, I admired my father for what he did, saving lives and all of it but eventually I realized that… yes, I probably would be good at it but I just wasn’t as passionate about it; and you need to be really passionate to be a doctor because it’s a lot.
UI: What was your favorite thing to do as a child?
Eva: Making little plays with my friends and dancing.
UI: What was your favorite thing to do as a teenager?
Eva: Oh Jesus Christ; uhmm… I liked dancing still and obviously acting, It took me a while to get back into school plays after my mom died but I still liked it.
UI: Do you think that school properly prepared you for your job? Why or why not?
Eva: I don’t think so… I mean I don’t want to sound ungrateful and say it didn’t teach me anything because it did; basic education is important but yeah, there isn’t much training for an actress in basic education schools. (Chuckles)
UI: Do you think that you got most of your skills or abilities from school? How so, if so? If not, where did you get them?
Eva: Acting wise? Probably from watching TV and practicing on my own.
UI: What other skills do you have?”
Eva: I have som unofficial basic medical training, I guess you could say. I know how to do CPR, I know how to give people shots, I know some things about what medicines like what to use for a certain illness or injury. I also know what medicines can’t be mixed. Things like that.
UI: Did you learn this because of your father”
Eva: Yes, also because I do take care of him sometimes when he’s going through rough times with his Cancer treatment.
UI: That’s really interesting.
Eva: (Smiles)
UI: Okay, Who did you look up to while you were growing up and why?
Eva: I obviously looked up to my mother a lot, she was a great woman and she was really enjoying every single moment of her life, she wasn’t afraid to be who she was and I always admired that. But I always looked up to my father a lot, still do; it’s not easy doing what he did. Losing his wife and then taking care of your teenager daughter all on your own, dealing with your pain while to try to help your kid to deal with trauma… He’s the strongest person I’ve ever known.
UI: Who do you think from the past had the most influence on you as a person now?
Eva: Whoever killed my mother… I don’t want to give them any credit about who I am today but I can’t deny if it weren’t for them, I would probably still have my mom now… and everything would be different. I do often wonder what our lives would be like if we hadn’t lost her.
UI: You’ve talked about your immediate family. Is there anyone in your extended family that you were in contact with or were close to? Why or why not?
Eva: I have somewhat of a large family, as most Mexican people do. (Laughs) And we are all really close, I think probably the closest would be my aunt Paty, she tried really hard to help my father after my mom died and she was always there for me.
UI: Is there anyone outside of your blood that you consider family?
Eva: Anabel, we’ve been friends for many years; she’s like the sister never had.
UI: Have you had your first kiss already?
Eva: Uhmm yeah, (laughs)
UI: When did it happen? Who did you have it with? How did it happen?
Eva: My first kiss was with my first boyfriend Eric, we went on a date and when he drove me back home and walked me to my door; he kissed me. It was very sweet.
UI: Have you had intercourse? If so, when was the first time? Who did you have it with? How did it happen?
Eva: You’re really looking for intimate details, aren’t you?
UI: I’m sorry it’s part of this.
Eva: I lost my virginity to my ex-boyfriend; Hector De La Mora. We had been dating for a year by then and I had gone through my attempted kidnap, so I… it took me a while to think about that kind of stuff and he was very patient with it too. I was twenty three and I think it was around Christmas time, I decided it was time; I loved him and I wanted to share that experience with him because at the time I thought, you know, I thought he was the one. It was great, he was very patient and took his time with making me feel comfortable and making it a good experience for me. It’s a good memory.
UI: To close out now that you’ve looked at your growing up, how would you describe your childhood in general?
Eva: Uhmm if we’re talking about my childhood alone, pre-teen years; I would say It was wonderful, I had parents that loved me, I was able to go to school and have some privileges and I had friends and everything to be happy.
