Whoops I did some sketching of some fire emblem guys (most of whom I've drawn before, two of whom I am newly acquainted with but already like)
This is mostly me trying to test out my other style. Y'all know the round one. Yeah. This isn't that one. This is the one in which women's facial structure is foreign to me (except for the fact I have a reference I can stare at and it's called a mirror). Would explain my design choices for each that go against canon but no. I will not elaborate. (Kent and Sain are very subject to change I have only just started fe7)
Individual ones under the cut:
#cap art!#fire emblem#fe8#fe7#fe15#do I really wanna tag every character#yeah I do ngl#forsyth fire emblem#kyle fire emblem#franz fire emblem#sain fire emblem#python fire emblem#lukas fire emblem#forde fire emblem#kent fire emblem#also yeah. If these aren't my best work I'm ok w that#these are just sketches to get my vision for these guys down

I'm sorry, but this Valentine's banner is creatively bankrupt. It's apparently impossible for a seasonal FE8 banner to not feature Ephraim, Eirika & Lyon, and then one or more of Myrrh, Tana or L'Arachel. I like all of these characters, but this is BORING. BORING BORING BORING.
(To quote a friend of mine describing what he assumed was IS's logic: "oh we gotta do Sacred Stones uhhhhh use the same four characters we always use and tag on Selena as a profitable Camus and then throw the F2P crowd someone no one gives a shit about.")
What about Gerick? Tethys? Marisa? Innes? Natasha? SETH?? Hell, it's been two years since Joshua got an alt, why not him? Or what about throwing a bone to Franz, Forde, Kyle or Garcia who aren't even in the game yet?
I'd celebrate a new alt for Vigarde, but he's the free unit....when his base form is a free unit!
Well, it's an easy skip for me at least. Good luck to those who are going to pull on it.
#feh#fire emblem heroes#fire emblem the sacred stones#this banner just seems so lazy to me#possibly even worse than the xmas banner because that at least had yunaka on it#it's the 8th year of the game can we please get some more character variety?#challenge: impossible

everyone on the magvel banner looks pretty cute (though i wish myrrh got the same artist as her legendary alt instead of That One yet again) but i would've liked more characters who don't already have multiple alts, like i love selena but she does not need to be here mooning over vigarde lol. one of the reasons fe8's my fave bc it has so many great familial relationships and i was really hoping for garcia & ross or tethys & ewan to make an appearance here, bah. i mean i also would've gone nuts for vanessa & syrene but they got in too recently lol and i figured they wouldn't put in franz & forde bc they can't leave out kyle and that is Too Many Boys. anyway i've got nearly 1000 orbs saved from barely playing aside from log-in bonuses and the bare minimum of event participation so i might try to get everyone bc they're still my darlings, and if i get the eirika/lyon duo i'll ofc immediately support them with ephraim/lyon bc do not separate them.

July activity check (+Heroes)
Passed!
Monthly skill point +1 Lance C (1/2) -> C+
So, Forde got into Heroes last month. This is very exciting, so I've decided to make a post just looking at his lines...
Is what I thought, but when I went to the wiki I found they hadn't been updated yet. So I spent the next hour or so typing out his (and Kyle's, and Amelia's, and Glen's).
Forde mentions Kyle 4 times, Ephraim 3 times and Franz once. Most of his lines are references to his supports. I'm not gonna quote everything, but here's some assorted thoughts I had:
Charcoal
"I'm sketching this hall. See, I use charcoal to draw and shade… Really just my way of recording memories." (Home)
"This? Oh- it's a sketch. I use this piece of charcoal to draw and shape like this." (Info screen)
He uses charcoal (as mentioned once in the Kyle C-support). I should uh, keep that in mind. Is a painting a painting if there's no paint?
Baby Kyle
"Oh, Kyle? He's been stuck-up since his plan to take over the nursery as a baby. Still… the ladies sure liked him." (Home)
I think this one undersells Kyle tbh. He made more than one plan:
Forde: When you were a baby, you were planning out strategies to take over the nursery. You were stuck up then, and you're stuck up now. And STILL the ladies liked you! (Kyle B-support)
"Kyle was so cool when we were children. I still remember how impressed I was." (Info screen)
This one's just cute.
VANESSA!
A couple of references to his A-support with Vanessa.
""I felt this warmth engulfing me, blowing across me like a summer wind. It must have been your energy." (Info screen)
"Feel my energy." (Critical quote)
Forde: Everyone has a different type of energy. Some energies can heal hearts, others spread courage. When you first saw me sleeping, I was dreaming of running across a field. I felt this warm energy engulfing me, blowing across my face like a summer wind. It must have been your energy that made me feel that way. Vanessa: My…energy? Forde: Would you like to feel my energy, too? (Vanessa A-support)
I have always loved this moment in his supports just for how out-of-pocket it is. Forde would be an astrology girlie. And let us be clear, Forde is flirting with Vanessa in this moment. This is his idea of a pick-up line. I'm obsessed.
Anyway let's just take a second to acknowledge that by association, Forde is not only flirting with the summoner, but every enemy he fights. Also the summoner has the same energy as Vanessa.
(One time I asked my brother to compare me to a fire emblem character he said Vanessa, so I'll take it I guess)
Franz
"When we lost our parents… well I don't know where I'd be now if I hadn't had Franz's help back then." (Info screen)
This is actually a reference to his supports with Ephraim.
Forde: When we lost our parents, I was shattered. Franz helped me get back on my feet. If I didn't have his help then, I don't know where I'd be today…
I don't talk about Franz enough. Let's get into this.
Forde and Franz's father died ten years before the events of FE8, and their mother died before then. Franz was too young to really remember them (Seth&Franz A-support, Amelia&Franz A-support, Kyle&Forde A-support).
Even before he died, their father was rarely at home, as he served in the army. Forde was sad, but Franz was constantly crying about it. To try to cheer him up, Forde drew a picture of their parents. (Seth&Franz A-support, Ephraim&Forde A-support)
In addition, a portrait of their mother hangs in their house, that Forde painted after he won a sword tournament. (We'll get back to this) (Kyle&Forde A-support)
You might notice here, that none of this is learnt in their supports with each other. The most they say about their parents is in their A-support:
Forde: …… …The last portrait I ever painted was of Mother… Franz: Mother? Forde: Never mind. Not important. (A-support)
Oh, and this only comes up because Forde is trying to make himself seem less cool than Franz thinks he is (sorry for the long wall of text it's all important I swear):
Franz: You are my role model. Forde: Franz, what's with you? All of a sudden, you-- Franz: No, it's not sudden at all. Come to think of it, I became a soldier so I could be like you. And now, I'm going to work harder, so I can be a great knight like you. Forde: That… That doesn't make any sense. Have you seen how lazy I am? Seriously. There are MUCH better role models out there for you to hero-worship. Franz: No, no. You like to act lazy. It's part of your charm, isn't it? But once the battle starts, everyone sees how sharp a warrior you are. Forde: Is that so? Franz: Yes, it is. And I also know that you like to play the part of the fool for no other reason than to give these weary soldiers a reason to smile. Forde: … Franz: And your sword and spear skills surpass those of any knight in the service of Renais, Frelia, or any other kingdom. Forde: Wow. Your flattery is far more than I deserve… Franz: The only reason you paint is to acquire a better understanding of geography, so that you can use that knowledge in battle… Forde: Nah… It's just a hobby. Don't give me too much credit. Franz: I'm not. Think about it. You only paint landscapes, isn't that true? Forde: …… …The last portrait I ever painted was of Mother… Franz: Mother? Forde: Never mind. Not important. Anyway, I'm shocked. SHOCKED. Yeah, if you need a role model, look to General Seth. Franz: Of course I admire General Seth. But that's just admiration. You're still my role model.
Right so the only reason their mother is brought up is because Forde's denying that his paintings are useful in battle. Which is interesting because...
Ephraim: …What is that? Is that a painting? Forde: This? No, no… No, it's a topographic map! Yes. For strategy. We need to plot out our strategy, don't we? During battles, I like to look at this map and analyze enemy lines… Ephraim: But…that's clearly a landscape painting. Forde: … (Ephraim C-support)
It's an excuse he's used before. With this, it's clear that he doesn't want Prince Ephraim to think badly of him, but isn't comfortable with Franz thinking so highly of him.
But even so, there's one thing Franz says that he doesn't try to refute:
Franz: Yes, it is. And I also know that you like to play the part of the fool for no other reason than to give these weary soldiers a reason to smile. Forde: ...
Hypothesis: Franz is correct. Interpretation: Forde remains positive so that those around him can stay positive. Extrapolation: Forde's been doing the same since their parents died. Conclusion: Forde will heavily downplay his emotional state for the sake of not worrying others. When he says Franz helped him get on his feet when their parents died (bear in mind Franz would be at most 8 at this point), he partially means that if he realised that if he let himself succumb to despair, Franz would do the same.
Got back to Heroes eventually.
Portraits
I'm not getting into the Forging Bonds that deeply, but they touched on a lot of the same things his level 40 convo does, just with 100% more Rosado (hell yeah).
"You wanna know why I don't paint portraits? I gotta say, I'm impressed you noticed. You see… When I was a kid, I beat Kyle in a tournament for swordsman trainees. It was pretty remarkable. But my mother was more pleased about a portrait I drew of her than my victory in the tournament. I didn't understand at the time, but now I get why she wanted me to wield a brush over a sword. My last portrait was of her. Maybe one day I'll want to do more, if I can put down my sword for a bit. Yeesh! Not like me to get so introspective. Something about you… I can talk for ages. Come on, let's go." (Upon reaching level 40)
This is basically the Forde&Kyle A-support. Which I'm very happy about as it includes my favourite line from all of Forde's supports:
Forde: She rejoiced more in my skill with the brush than in my skill with the sword. I never understood why… Not until recently, at any rate.
Though the detail that his mother was the last portrait he drew is only found in Franz's A-support.
Right, so Forde doesn't do portraits. He'll never, ever paint another portrait...
Eirika: Would you ever consider… doing a portrait of me? Forde: I'm sorry? Eirika: Is that distasteful to you? Forde: No! No… It's just that I so rarely do portraits. Eirika: So, it would be a bother? Forde: Not at all! A bother? Really. This request comes from my princess. I'd be more than happy to. (Eirika B-support)
Forde: It is because of you that we can go on. You and the prince are here, risking your lives for the cause. Your guidance, your leadership… It gives us a reason to live as well. Eirika: A reason…to live? Forde: Yes… To restore that radiant smile to your own lovely face. Eirika: Oh! Forde: I fight to see you smile again, to drive the worry from your face. If I can do that, then I will be more than happy to paint your portrait. (Eirika A-support)
I really love the Forde and Eirika supports. It's really sweet that despite everything, he's able to find someone he wants to paint again. It's also the support conversation where he becomes the most dedicated to being a good night. (well, good as he can be without too much effort).
Yeah
Overall, I'm very happy with how Forde's been portrayed in Heroes. There's only one problem I have... which comes from some of Kyle's lines...
"Kyle, of the knights of Renais." (Info screen)
"My life has been in service of Renais since the moment I took my chivalric vows." (Info screen)
"We ride for Renais!" (Critical quote)
One thing you might notice... all of the above lines are voiced...
This entire time, I've been pronouncing Renais as "Ren-eye", to rhyme with "Guy". But Kyle pronounces it as "Ren-ay", which rhymes with... no, I shan't say it...
#activity check#headcanons#// shoutout to Eleven and Cody ily twins#// changing the url to renaisgay would be very funny but it doesn't fit so I'll just keep mispronouncing renais I guess

Retreating in Chapter 5x
Should Orson, Kyle, or Forde fall in Chapter 5x, they retreat instead of dying, and have special retreat quotes.
Kyle: I was careless... My apologies, Prince Ephraim. I must withdraw.
Forde: Oh, that hurt... I'm sorry, Prince Ephraim. I have to fall back.
Orson: This wound... It will slow me down. I must retreat.
I’ve thought long and hard about how Ephraim failed to notice Orson’s disappearance at the end of 5x, and have come up with two explanations: First, Ephraim’s an idiot and genuinely failed to notice that one of his three men vanished. Alternatively, Orson canonically retreats in 5x.
If Orson retreated, then none of the three other men have a reason to question why he isn’t with them. They think he’s left the battlefield to return to Frelia, as Ephraim ordered before the battle began. In fact, Ephraim also brought up some wound Orson sustained off-screen. It wouldn’t be impossible for him to have (in-story) pretended to, or purposely sustained, greater injuries to give him an excuse to withdraw.

FE8 Novelization Translation: Book 2 - Front Cover & Other Introductory Pages
Yup, you read that right! It’s time for book 2 already!
And here’s the big announcement - I recalculated the number of parts I’m going to split the chapters into, so I don’t have to take a break in-between books 1 and 2! Some chapters have more scene breaks than others, so it was an easy thing to do without compromising pacing at all.
Let’s get started!!

Though she has dreams of one day being able to play Bach’s cello suites, she still has a hard time with even basic scales.
Cover and Obi Design: atelier THiRD
Princess Eirika vowed to rebuild her home country of Renais, gained the help of their ally nation Frelia, and started to fight back. As her army marches, she crosses paths with all sorts of people, and grows her group of allies. Finally, they make it to Renvall Castle, a critical strategic location for the Grado Army, and attack it. During the battle, she succeeds in reuniting with her elder twin brother Ephraim, who disappeared on the front lines. However, after having only a moment to confirm each other’s safety, Ephraim states that he will march to Grado Castle. Eirika volunteers to travel to the Theocracy of Rausten to support him, but then...

Eirika
The Princess of Renais. She is kind, and does not like war itself, but still dedicated herself to the current war without hesitation to retake her country, a goal entrusted to her by her father, the king.
Fado
The king of the Kingdom of Renais. In his youth, he was renowned for his military prowess, and he is adored by his people as an honest statesman.
Seth
Though he is the youngest of all Renais’ generals, his loyalty and superb skills in both combat and discernment make him the ideal image of a knight.
Franz
He may have just only become a full-fledged knight, but he has a very serious and earnest personality, and is skilled in combat as well, ensuring him a promising future.
Valter
A general of the Grado Empire also known as the Moonstone. He was discharged from the army for the crime of massacring ordinary citizens for fun. However...
Gilliam
A devoted knight of Frelia with a long history as a fearless soldier. He is a man of few words, but his power is known throughout the entire Frelian Army.
Tana
The princess of the Kingdom of Frelia. In contrast to her friendly personality that is beloved by all of her retainers and servants, she also has military experience, and is an active member of the pegasus knight unit.
Hayden
The king of the Kingdom of Frelia. His resourcefulness is unparalleled, and has earned him the title “The Wise King.” He is a long time friend of Fado’s and spares no effort in aiding Eirika and her allies.
Vanessa
An outstanding knight, even among the prided Frelian pegasus knights. She is very serious, but kind.
Moulder
A priest. Within his calm appearance lies a very intelligent mind. He can not only heal with staves, but is also knowledgeable in medicine.
Selena
A mage general of Grado, also known as the Fluorspar. One of the empire’s three generals. She has vowed her undying loyalty to Emperor Vigarde.
Ross
A boy living in Ide Village in Renais. He is saved by Eirika and her allies when his home is attacked by bandits.
Garcia
Ross’ father. A former troop commander in the Renais’ army known for his dauntless courage. When his wife passed away, he retired from the army to raise his son.
Neimi
A girl born in Lark Village in Renais. Her home was burned down by bandits. She cries easily, but undoubtedly inherited her grandfather’s famous skills with a bow.
Colm
Neimi’s childhood friend. They were the only two to survive the bandit attack on their hometown. He has sticky fingers, but is kind to Neimi.
Artur
He meets Eirika and the others while carrying out the orders given to him by his monastery to purge the lands of monsters. He has a deep love of learning and is a devoted monk.
Lute
Artur’s childhood friend. Though it is true that she is an exceptionally skilled mage, the words and actions she chooses as a result of her confidence in that fact are a bit detached from reality.
L’Arachel
A young woman with a strong sense of justice on a continuing journey to take out the monsters roaming the lands. She actually appears to be of noble standing based upon the way her companions talk to and act around her.
Dozla
A warrior traveling with L’Arachel. He cannot hide the fact that he is her loyal retainer, though perhaps it is more accurate to say that he is not really trying. He’s not one to sweat the small stuff.
Rennac
He is actually a master thief, and just under contract with L’Arachel, but all she does is drag him around everywhere.
Natasha
A cleric being pursued by the Grado Army because she was deemed a traitor. She asks to travel with Eirika so she can spread the word to other nations about the strange things occurring within the empire.

Kyle
A loyal retainer who has served Ephraim ever since he joined the cavalier unit. An exceptional knight who’s skilled in serving as a guard.
Forde
Like Kyle, he serves Ephraim as both a guard and close confidant. He and Kyle have been rivals since they were young. He is also Franz’s older brother.
Orson
The commanding officer of the Renais cavalier unit. He is a devoted cavalier who has served the royal family for years, and that King Fado trusts deeply, however...
Innes
The prince of The Kingdom of Frelia. He always has a strong sense of duty towards his role as a member of the royal family. He is extremely confident in himself, and has the strength and abilities to back it up.
Myrrh
A girl who is neither human nor monster, but a member of the dragon tribe. She leaves The Darkling Woods to tell the humans about the abnormalities occurring across the continent.
Amelia
A girl who became a soldier because of her respect for General Duessel. However, she feels lost when she learns that he opposes the war.
Gerik
The brave leader of a band of mercenaries. He joins Eirika’s army because Prince Innes hired him as his guard.
Tethys
A dancer whose bewitching dances attract the soldiers around her and heighten their morale. Once she joined Gerik’s Mercenaries, she became an indispensable member of the group.
Marisa
A female mercenary is rare enough, but her beauty and skills make her even more of a diamond in the rough. She is registered in the guild as a member of the same mercenary group as Gerik.
Ewan
Tethys’ little brother. He aspires to become a mage, and convinced a renowned sage to become his teacher. He is at the age where he cannot help but want to be treated as his own person.
Saleh
The sage of Caer Pelyn, and the only person of this age to associate with those of the dragon tribe. His abilities are very widely known. He is also Ewan’s teacher.
Glen
A general of the Grado Empire who is also known as the Sunstone. One of the empire’s three generals. He also questions the current war…
Cormag
A dragon knight of Grado. Glen’s younger brother. He trusts and respects his brother completely, but after a certain event happens, he leaves the Grado Army.
Lyon
The prince of the Grado Empire. He has been a friend of Eirika and Ephraim’s for many years. His research into dark magic has made him even more knowledgeable in magic than the palace mages.
Ismaire
The beautiful queen of the Kingdom of Jehanna, known as “The Queen of White Dunes.” She has gained the overwhelming support of the people for her accomplishments in running the country since her husband’s passing.
Duessel
A general of the Grado Empire with the title “Obsidian.” One of the Three Imperial Generals. Though he has been accused of being a traitor, he is working together with Ephraim to warn the emperor of the error of his ways.
Knoll
A palace mage of the Grado Empire who studied dark magic alongside Lyon. He is one of the few people who knows the reason why the emperor, once known for his virtue, changed so drastically.
Caellach
A general of Grado known as the “Tiger Eye.” He started out as a mere mercenary, and rose up to his current position, but he is an ambitious person who wishes to rise even higher.
Vigarde
The emperor of the Grado Empire. He is beloved for his virtuous ways, including opening up the national treasury to the people in times of disaster. However, ever since that fateful day, his personality has changed completely, and he began the invasion all of the countries across the continent of Magvel...
Syrene
The commander of Frelia’s third unit of pegasus knights. She is Vanessa’s elder sister by blood, but Tana also looks up to her like an elder sister.
Mansel
The Pontifex who rules over the Theocracy of Rausten. Known for being highly educated and devoted to his beliefs, he is worshiped by the deeply devoted people as the representative of the gods.
Riev
A mage general of the Grado Empire known as the “Blood Beryl.” Ever since he learned the reason for the emperor’s change, he has served the emperor to support his dark ambitions.

you used to be a really fun and interactive blog but now you are kind of just here and pretty boring. do you ever think about the legacy that you have discarded?
Garm is the Sacred Twin black axe of Grado. Garm is SS-Ranked, meaning a unit must have an SS-Rank in axes to use it. Due to the fact that a unit can only one SS-Rank, a, say, a Warrior must choose between SS-Ranking Bows or SS-Ranking Axes. However, I slightly lied. Lyon can SS-Rank both Dark Magic and Staves. In Fire Emblem 6: Fuuin no Tsurugi, a unit can SS-Rank all possible weapons it can use. Therefore, a FE6 unit, to be specific, a FE6 Paladin, the best of which is Zealot, could use Garm, Audhulma, and Vidofnir. I'm sorry, I slightly lied again. A FE6 unit could not use Fire Emblem 8: The Sacred Stones weapons. However, it can use FE6 weapons. Therefore, it can use the Armads, Durandal, and Malte. However, it can not use all three at once, unless the game has been significantly altered and the Paladin has three arms. But that's slightly off-topic, I digress. We are talking about FE8 because we are on the FE8 board. The possible wielders of Garm are, in order of appearance, Gilliam, Franz, Garcia, Ross, Kyle, Forde, Amelia, Duessel, Gerik, Dozla, Caellach, and Fado. Quite a large portion of FE8's cast can use Garm. However, many of these units can only use axes post-promotion, therefore increasing the difficulty of getting them an SS-Rank in axes. It can be done easier, however, if you use the Devil Axe. The Devil Axe gives 8 times as much axe weapon experience as most other axes or most other weapons. However, the Devil Axe is very heavy and very innaccurate. Also, it can backfire and do damage to the user equal to the damage it would've done to the opponent. The Devil Axe is risky but it has a good potential benefit for the user. Garm gives a +5 bonus to Speed. This is good because many of the potential Garm wielders could benefit from the boost. In appearance of order, I mean order of appearance, they are Garcia, Ross, Kyle, Duessel, Dozla, Caellach and Fado. None of them have good Speed. The stereotypical axe user often lacks Speed. A notable exception to this is Dart from Fire Emblem 7: Rekka no Ken. Dart has an impressive Speed stat, so giving Dart the Garm axe would increase his Speed to make it quite high. I'm sorry, I slightly lied again. Please punish me in a kinky way. Back to what I was saying. Dart cannot use Garm, despite the fact that the only weapon type he can use, let alone SS-Rank, is axes. Why, you ask? Garm does nto, I mean, not, exist in FE7. However, Basilikos does.Basilikos could be considered an inferior version of Garm. I'm sorry, but I am digressing from the point I am trying to make. Please reprimand me if I do this again. Garm is acquired upon completing Eirika's Chapter 15: Scorched Sand or Ephraim's Chapter 14: Father and Son. Interestingly, the son does not appear during the Chapter. I'm sorry, i, I mean I, slightly lied again. The son, Lyon, appears in conversation scenes before and after the main conflict in Father and Son. However, I am slightly digressing. Upon completion of said Chapter(s), Garm, along with Gleipnir, are added to the main character's inventory. However, something interesting happens when the main character's inventory is full. I am sorry, what happens isn't very interesting. Something truly interesting does happen when the main character's inventory and the Supply convoy is full. In the first instance, you will have to send two of the main character's items to Supply, and you will have to discard two of the main character's items in the latter circumstance. This creates the interesting paradox where the sacred relics of Grado can be simply discarded. This is interesting because such powerful items, two of the eight used to defeat the feared Demon King, are merely thrown away. I'm sorry, I slightly lied again. Only seven of those items can be used against the Demon King. Latona, the Holy Staff of Rausten, cannot be used against the Demon King because it is a staff that heals all of your units except the one who uses it. However, it has little strategic use because getting one of your units to S-Rank Staves is worthless. I'm sorry, I digressed yet again. Please discipline me, Master.

Favorite Male Character: Aaaah, so hard. There’s Ephraim, Duessel, Rennac, Cormag, Saleh, Franz, Kyle, even Seth… but really, it’s gotta be Innes.
Favorite Female Character: Also hard. Eirika, Tana, L’Arachel, Amelia, Vanessa… guess I will go with Amelia today.
Least Favorite Character: Valter. No contest. If we mean playable characters, Neimi and Colm and Joshua all torque me wrong.
Favorite Ship: Eirika/Saleh, Kyle/Lute, HM to Franz/Amelia
Favorite Friendship: Maybe Amelia & Duessel’s bond is a little more like found family but it’s still one of the coolest things in an FE game.
Favorite Quote: “They’re not cheering for you. They cheer because Orson’s misrule is at an end.” Seth’s deflation of the big moment of mid-game redemption glory remains a classic.
Worst Character Death (if any): Glen just straight-up got murdered and it was bad, but what happened to Morva is just The Worst.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment: In terms of experiencing the game, Ephraim storming into the plot kept me engaged in something I’d been pretty meh on to that point. In a big-picture sense, discovering all the lovely character parallels and subtle interactions was a delight.
Saddest Moment: Myrrh after dealing with the Dracozombie.
Favorite Location: Carcino. Renaissance Italian backstabby city.

do you have any ships for cormag w/ muses from other fe games?
this is it. this is the day i have to expose myself
the list of characters i ship with cormag, lets fuckin go
okay im just gonna go with the games im familiar with bc i havent touched 1-6, 9, 10, 11, or 12 sadly enough. Im familiar with the characters in terms of i know of them but not enough to say id ship them with cormag! but who knows that might change over the course of rp!!!
that said im starting from 7 and going down the line from there
fe7: hector, heath. i can play with the idea of legault and raven. maybe vaida but i think theyd be more gay lesbian solidarity you feel me. also maybe lyn?
fe8: ephraim, eirika, seth, natasha, knoll, saleh, rennac, artur, tana ( the last two i saw more in a sort of platonic light but i can see romance with them! ). i can play with the idea of kyle, joshua, lyon. maybe innes?
fe13: i actually havent thought about this much till today! frederick, cherche. maybe robin, libra, gaius, lon’qu?
fe14: charlotte. maybe laslow ( i thought abt this bc of an ask i sent to @warstep ). im not entirely sure here :0 i wanna say some royalty and i think thatd be the nohr siblings ( except elise but shed probably grow on cormag as a little sister honestly )
fe15: lukas. perhaps conrad, forsyth, python? maybe leon, kamui as well?
there you go ive done. exposed myself for you all to see dont fuckign look at me. just dont.
but yeah! if i dive into the other games and research that material like i want to ill probably have a lot more to add to this list but yeah!

the final sorter adventure thus draws to a close! although I’ve been thinking on whether I can maybe string up some random rolls myself in order to try at determining the favorites among the favorites... still, what a furiously stressful exercise that’d be, huh? maybe I should really just start remembering that tier-based favorite lists are the superior approach to this kind of stuff from now on
ahem, anyways! the results for Magvel sorting lie below the cut
#1: Eirika, Forde, L’Arachel
#4: Tana
#5: Joshua, Knoll
#7: Tethys
#8: Duessel, Ephraim
#10: Cormag, Glen
#12: Gerik
#13: Ewan
#14: Garcia
#15: Myrrh
#16: Innes
#17: Caellach
#18: Lyon
#19: Natasha, Selena
#21: Orson
#22: Gilliam
#23: Artur
#24: Amelia, Saleh
#26: Valter
#27: Hayden
#28: Moulder
#29: Franz
#30: Lute
#31: Kyle, Marisa
#33: Ismaire
#34: Rennac
#35: Syrene
#36: Dozla, Neimi
#38: Seth
#39: Ross
#40: Riev
#41: Fado
#42: Colm
a truly pervasive sense that I got here is... that I really need to get around to those FE8 support rereads, because damn, there’s quite a few characters for whom I can barely remember any of the characterization!
(not that this necessarily changes much for... those of my least favorites who people usually like, I guess; I’m probably not going to start liking Lute or Marisa more soon, for example)
magvel is also surprisingly consistent with the villains here -- only Riev really hit the bottom echelons of the list. for this exercise, I’ve been very consciously making the effort to keep a clear distinction between how much a villain entertains or interests me vs. how much I’d like to meet people like them; for example, Orson is right there on the middle of the list -- he’s not a better person than most anyone he’s beating, but man, his depravity is just amazing to watch. it’s not for no reason that we made memes out of it.
(still, Caellach ultimately took the cake here out of the bad guys -- he’s, how to even put it... like a significantly more grounded Ashnard who’s still in the blood pact making process? I think I’m a lot more interested in it than most of the fandom appears to be I guess)
... hey, I only just noticed Vanessa hasn’t showed up at all! man, the sorter was serious about accidentally considering her a tellius character, huh?

Eirika/Seth for the Ship Meme, or if that's already been asked, Colm/Neimi
Eirika/Seth
What I like: It’s a classic princess-and-knight support. As a support thread that also gets supplemented by the plot (if you take Eirika’s route), it covers their dynamic outside of plot-related events. Some people don’t like that he doesn’t want her to be at the forefront of the conflict, but I think it’s reasonable for him. I do wish that he had the dynamic he has with Ephraim with her, but Eirika didn’t exactly learn much about war or fighting before everything went down. It wouldn’t make much sense for Seth to be encouraging her to learn under such dangerous conditions, especially when the last duty he was given was to keep her safe.
Don’t like: The fact that the A support kinda leaves it hanging, and then in their paired ending they just smoothed things out off-screen. I read the Japanese ending and found out that there’s a better transition between the A support and their ending, which was hampered by the character limits of the English game. Even so, it could’ve been nice to... not have to come up with the whole conversation on your own.
How I would go about shipping them: Like Eirika/L’Arachel, it’s a support that would work better in a C-S support system.
Colm/Neimi
What I like: I think it’s a support that has potential in it, and from their introductory chapter, it’s clear that they care for each other. Also their stat buffs are pretty sweet, plus they have the fastest support growth by proxy of their C support coming by default.
Don’t like: Unfortunately, the execution of the supports left me wanting. Simply put, Colm’s an ass towards her. In their C support, he seems annoyed when Neimi points out he’s the one that upset her. This is actually on the translation, since they used “Ugh!” while the Japanese version used “Uu...” (う・・・), which suggests he was taken aback by her response, not dismissive of it. However, he’s still unnecessarily harsh towards her afterwards, even if he’s trying to toughen her up and wasn’t trying to upset her. The lack of actual development was disappointing, especially compared to the likes of Syrene/Gilliam or Forde/Kyle (as they all expand upon previously-established relationships).
How I would go about shipping them: In his supports with Moulder, he’s told to reflect on his actions, and by the A support, comes to realize his own shortcomings. I’d have the A support for him and Neimi set in that period of realization between his B and A supports with Moulder (other FE8 supports reference each other, so it’s definitely possible). The A support is Colm realizing that he’s not taking Neimi’s own feelings into account, apologizing for being so curt with her in the past, and making steps to move forward in their relationship.

FE8 Unit Rankings, according to Japanese players
For those who don’t know about the differences between FE8′s Japanese and overseas versions, there were a number of changes in growth rates and bases for playable characters, and almost all the enemies were nerfed in overseas versions of FE8.
As a result, to my great curiosity, I found that a number of Japanese players’ unit rankings had significant differences from the general English fandom’s. This is all, of course, still very subjective, so I’ve taken the averages of the rankings I found on four fansites. I’ll also be adding a summary of their commentary and notes, and will point out when a units’ growths and bases were changed. (I myself played JP FE8 Ephraim Hard Mode, but on a themed run, so I haven’t used all the units. If you want to see the results of my run, see this post.)
(Note: Because of differences in grading scales, there is a slight inaccuracy in my calculated average ranking. I’ve put their letter grades on the side, and will link my sources at the bottom of the post.)
Eirika
General Ranking: 4/5 (B + C + A + A)
Eirika is praised for her speed and skill, which she is almost guaranteed to cap unless you get seriously unlucky with her levels. The person who gave her a C criticized her low growths in Strength and Defense (though, amusingly, her 30% Def growth actually puts her in the realm of the game’s higher Def growths). Another criticism was that being sword-locked limits her two-range chances, and thus her combat ability. Her better scores pointed out that she has better overall stat caps than Ephraim, so she would surpass him should she be lucky enough to hit them.
Ephraim
General Ranking: 4.75/5 (A + S + B + A)
Unsurprisingly, Ephraim still got a better score than his sister, but one site quite amusingly rated him lower than Eirika. He was universally praised for being a powerhouse in Strength and Defense, and for having immediate two-range as a Lance user. The biggest negatives pointed out were his stat caps limiting his offensive ability.
Seth
General Ranking: 3.25/5 (B + C + B + C) Growth Changes: 85% (JP) > 90% HP (EN)
The general commentary was that he’s a “Jagen with good growths” (the JP fandom doesn’t seem to consider the Oifey archetype?), and that he’s “sufficient for endgame.” His biggest criticism was directed towards his Strength and HP, and the consensus is that he shouldn’t be used too much because other characters will surpass him.
Franz
General Ranking: 3/5 (C + C + B + B) Base Changes: 21 (JP) > 20 HP (EN); 8 > 7 Str; 8 > 7 Spd
“Seth Lite” got an even lower ranking than Seth, even though he generally will surpass Seth if raised properly. The general criticism is that his growths are too balanced and thus, he’s more a jack-of-all-stats that doesn’t excel in any particular area. His lackluster defenses and Luck also don’t help his cause, and the general sentiment is that “Amelia is way better.”
(Mod Zebra comment: The opinion on Amelia is so hilariously polar opposites between JP and EN players. I’ll have to side with the JP players, since most EN unit rankings depend on efficiency, and I don’t care about efficiency. My Amelia was really, really good. Completely blew her competition out of the water.)
Gilliam
General Ranking: 2.5/5 (C + D + C + C) Growth Changes: 40% > 45% Str; 30% > 35% Skl
His biggest criticism is that he’s only good in HP and Defense, and not much else. He’s the only General you can get unless you decide to make Amelia a General, but with a Strength growth as shaky as Eirika’s with far less Skill, most players didn’t find him a good investment. In summary: Use him in the beginning, then ditch him.
(Mod Zebra comment: My Amelia was so blessed that she was actually had more Defense than Gilliam for a while. RIP Gilliam. The only reason I brought him in endgame was because he had an A support with Neimi.)
Vanessa
General Ranking: 2.5/5 (D + D + C + B) Base Changes: 12 > 11 Spd
While the English fandom’s tier lists tend to rate Vanessa higher than or equal to Tana due to her earlier recruitment, Vanessa is rated quite low in the Japanese tier lists, her highest ranking only a B and netting Ds in two other lists. She got most of her flak for her low durability and strength, with a mere 50% HP growth, 35% Strength growth, and 20% Defense growth. One ranker mentioned that the only stat Vanessa has over Tana is Skill, and that Tana is the better option.
(Mod Zebra comment: While the EN fandom typically recommends the Wyvern Knight promotion for both of them, the JP lists all recommend Falcoknight for its swords.)
Moulder
General Ranking: 2.5/5 (D + C + D + C) Growth Changes: 80% > 65% HP, 45% > 40% Spd
While Moulder is commended for his high HP growth (which was nerfed for the English release, along with Speed), his low Magic and Luck receives criticism. The rankers do not find him a combat-viable unit as a result, and not worth grinding when Artur has the same exact promotions, levels faster, and has better offensive growths. Should you use Moulder, they recommend the Bishop promotion for Slayer’s effective damage against monsters.
Ross
General Ranking: 2.75/5 (C + B + C + C) Growth Changes: 25% > 30% Spd
In contrast to the general EN sentiment, these JP players find Ross the least usable Trainee. Because of his low Skill, Speed, and defensive growths, he is seen as a very shaky unit. His recommended class is Berserker, to take advantage of his high Luck and Strength growths.
(Mod Zebra comment: I didn’t notice this, but apparently Trainees in the JP version don’t get an EXP bonus, at least not as much as they do in the EN version.)
Garcia
General Ranking: 1.5/5 (E + D + D + D)
Garcia does not live up to his reputation as former Renais general. Despite having better growths than his son in HP, Strength, and Skill, his even lower Speed and even defenses give him a lot of flak. The general impression is “he’s all power and not much else.”
Neimi
General Ranking: 4/5 (A + B + A + C) Base Changes: 18 > 17 HP
Okay, Neimi really took me by surprise; she has two As, and another unit recommendation list I didn’t use here also included her. The sentiment is that while her HP and Defense are shaky, her offensive and luck growths are good and she’ll usually turn out to be a good unit. Furthermore, as the only unpromoted Archer, she’s best-suited for filling the Ranger niche. In the case of her C ranking, the person cited her bases as a detriment and said that there aren’t many situations where you actually need an archer in this game.
Colm
General Ranking: 3.5/5 (C + B + B + B) Base Changes: 12 > 10 Spd
Colm is viewed as a non-combatant, especially for his poor HP, Def, and Res, though some of them say that he’s more combat-viable after leveling. He gets points for his Thief utility and his only rival is Rennac, who is... Rennac. Most of the comments are along of the lines of “use him, because he’s not Rennac.”
Artur
General Ranking: 4/5 (B + A + B + B) Base Changes: 7 > 6 Mag; 9 > 8 Spd Growth Changes: 60% > 50% Mag; 60% > 55% Res
Artur receives praise for his all-around excellent offenses, but his low Defense growth and Luck growth are cause of concern. Going Bishop is, of course, the recommended route because of Slayer.
Lute
General Ranking: 4.75/5 (A + A + A + A) Growth Changes: 70% > 65% Mag; 45% > 40% Res
Everyone loves Lute. (Despite having all As, she only has a 4.75 average because two reviewers use S as their highest rank.) She’s universally praised for her firepower, making her a great offensive and healing unit. Naturally, going Sage is the recommended route due to its higher Magic cap (meanwhile, some people in the EN fandom will tell you to go Mage Knight because of Horse Emblem).
(Mod Zebra comment: In JP FE8, I find that there’s little reason to go Mage Knight if you’re concerned about stats. Yes, you get a horse, but it’s only one extra move compared to Sage, and it locks Lute to Anima tomes that are at a disadvantage against magic-using monsters. With a Magic cap of 25, Lute will likely struggle to one-round enemies, and Lute can’t double with more powerful tomes if she gets Speed-screwed due to her low Con.)
Natasha
General Ranking: 3/5 (C + C + C + B)
While Natasha is considered a better healer than Moulder, her shaky Skill and Speed are cause for concern. Furthermore, as a stave-locked character before promotion, she will gain levels much slower than the likes of Artur, Lute, or Ewan, so her usability drops in comparison to magic attackers who gain staves on promotion. And, like Artur and Moulder, Bishop is the recommended route.
(Mod Zebra comment: Seriously, don’t go Valkyrie with her unless you’re doing a Horse Emblem or no-Bishop challenge and need to use her. L’Arachel far outstrips her as a Valkyrie. Not to say that Natasha is bad as one, but there’s no reason to pick Valkyrie when Bishop has Slayer.)
Joshua
General Ranking: 2/5 (D + D + C + D) Growth Changes: 30% > 35% Str
Man, Joshua gets no love from JP players for his combat viability, which is a far cry from the English fandom that usually places him among the upper-mid tiers. While people commend his Skill and Speed, they find his 30% Strength and 20% Def/Res growths too shaky. “He’s better as a story character than a unit,” was what someone had to say. Swordmaster is still his recommended promotion, though some consider him to be a better Assassin than Colm should you want Silencer.
Forde
General Ranking: 2.5/5 (D + D + C + C) Growth Change: 80% > 85% HP
Forde’s rating is hampered by his low bases and his mediocre balanced growths. In summary, he’s “Franz but worse,” and at least two of these rankers state “don’t bother with this game’s Red/Green pair.”
Kyle
General Ranking: 2.75/5 (C + D + C + B) Growth Change: 85% > 90% HP
Kyle’s advantage over Forde is his better Strength and Defense growths, though his Speed, Luck, and Resistance leave something to be desired. His recommended promotion is Great Knight to capitalize on his Defense.
Tana
General Ranking: 4.85/5 (A + A + S + A) Base Changes: 8 > 7 Str; 8 > 9 Skl, 12 > 13 Spd, 7 > 6 Def
With probably the highest average rank, Tana proves a favorite among JP (and EN) players. Boasting relatively high HP, Strength, Speed, and Luck growths, she can easily become a offensive powerhouse. With her Speed, she will also be quite evasive, making her low Defense growth less of an issue. The only big worry she has are archers.
Amelia
General Ranking: 4.75/5 (B + S + A + A) Growth Changes: 70% > 60% HP; 40% > 35% Str
Amelia’s popularity as a unit in Japan came as a huge surprise, since the English impression of her is that she isn’t worth the effort. 40% growths in Strength/Skill/Speed are potentially risky, but Japanese players seem to find the risk worth it when she has 47 levels to grow. 30% Defense is also a respectable growth (only six main-game units have higher Def growths), and her 50% Luck growth is handy for clutch crits and dodges. The general consensus is that Paladin is her best class, while General can be chosen for the novelty. One reviewer stated that F!Paladin’s 23 Str cap is limiting, and for those who intend on doing Creature Campaign, it may be worthwhile to go General and then abuse the Boot trick in Lagdou to make raise her Mov.
(Mod Zebra comment: As I linked above, my Amelia was insane. I got her to level 10 Recruit in Chapter 9B, and when I promoted her to Cavalier, she had stats on par with level 10-12 units. Her EN nerfs, like with Ewan, probably hurt her quite a bit. She still wrecked face in my EN Grado-only run, though I was lowmanning so it’s not really an “accurate” comparison to other units. And yes, being capped to 23 Str is limiting.)
Innes
General Ranking: 2/5 (D + D + D + C) Base Changes: 28 > 31 HP
The general verdict is “Neimi’s better,” though the person who gave him a C gave him the benefit of the doubt, saying “It’s possible for Neimi to turn out worse.” In general, he’s serviceable, but easily outdone.
Gerik
General Ranking: 5/5 (A + S + S + A) Base Changes: 11 > 13 Con
I was wrong about Tana. Gerik’s the one with the perfect score. His good bases and offensive growths trump his shaky speed and resistance. As one person said, there’s a low chance that he can go wrong.
Tethys
General Ranking: 3.75/5 (C + C + A + A)
The two C rankings cite her inability to attack and her weak defenses as a bane. Meanwhile, the two As cite her... good defenses. Eye of the beholder, I suppose, but she she’s mid-tier at worst for her Dancer utility.
Marisa
General Ranking: 1.75/5 (D + D + D + D) Growth Changes: 25% > 30% Str; 50% > 55% Skl; 55% > 60% Spd; 20% > 25% Res
“Joshua, but even worse” was what people had to say about her. One person said something to the effect of “If I were ranking her on personality, I’d give her SSS, but the only thing she’s good at as a unit is dodging.”
L’Arachel
General Ranking: 3.75/5 (B + C + A + B) Growth Changes: 60% > 50% Mag; 50% > 45% Spd
While L’Arachel’s high growths and excellent stats after leveling received praise, her relatively late recruitment as a level 3 staffbot cuts her score. Her recommended promotion is Valkyrie for its use of Light magic.
Dozla
General Ranking: 1.25/5 (D + D + E + E)
“Has good HP and Strength, but is lackluster everywhere else” is the mutual sentiment among the rankers.
Saleh
General Ranking: 2.75/5 (C + C + C + C) Base Changes: 9 > 8 Def
He’s a perfectly average prepromote with Staff utility, but it’s agreed that Ewan far outdoes him, especially since Saleh’s growths are pretty low all-around. “He’s no Pent” was what two of the reviews said.
Ewan
General Ranking: 4.25/5 (B + S + B + B) Growth Changes: 55% > 45% Mag
JP fandom likes Ewan a lot more than the EN fandom does. He gets score cuts with three of them for his late join time as a Pupil, but they all agree that he has good growths that turn him into a decent unit. The person who put him above even Amelia said that it’s easier to keep him safe since, as a tome user, he has two-range. They all generally agree that Ewan’s best when he goes down the Shaman line, since Artur and Lute can both cover the Sage route.
(Mod Zebra comment: I really have no idea why the English version nerfed Ewan’s magic. I will echo what one JP reviewer said about the Mage Knight class: “Honestly, Mage Knight and its low caps are a waste; don’t even think about it.” M!MKs are capped at 24 magic.)
Cormag
General Ranking: 3.75/5 (C + A + B + B) Base Changes: (Eirika route) 37 > 32 HP; 18 > 15 Str; 12 > 10 Skl; 13 > 11 Spd; 6 > 5 Lck; 15 Def > 13 Def; 3 > 2 Res
Despite being stronger in literally every stat in the JP version of Eirika’s route (which most these rankings were based on), Cormag doesn’t get particularly outstanding ratings. Most of the concern went into his low Speed, Luck, Defense, and Res growths. However, his bases and high HP/Strength gains him favor as a low-investment unit.
Rennac
General Ranking: 1.5/5 (E + D + D + D) Growth Changes: 60% > 65% HP; 25% > 30% Res Base Changes: 26 > 28 HP; 8 > 10 Str; 11 > 16 Skl; 15 > 17 Spd; 8 > 9 Def; 3 > 11 Res
Rennac sorely needed those buffs to become a barely-viable unit in versions where the enemies were nerfed. His only redeeming factor is his Thief utility; in fact, one reviewer wrote “Rennac’s usability is directly tied to Colm’s survival.” Another wrote “As long as Colm is alive, Rennac’s existential value is gone.”
(Mod Zebra comment: A couple of the rankers mentioned how buffed up Rennac was for the overseas versions. One JP player elsewhere expressed jealousy. From playing a prepromotes-only run in the EN version, I can tell you that he still sucks.)
Duessel
General Ranking: 2/5 (C + C + E + D) Base Changes: B > A Sword Rank
With relatively low bases at a high promoted level, Duessel doesn’t get as much utility, though one reviewer does cite his usefulness in the Ghost Ship chapter.
Knoll
General Ranking: 2.25/5 (D + C + C + D)
“Just give up on his Defense and Luck,” one person wrote. The general consensus is that he should only be bothered with if Ewan didn’t grow well. Summoner is, of course, the recommended promotion.
Myrrh
General Ranking: 3.25/5 (C + B + C + B)
While Myrrh is praised for her high growths and Dragonstone buffs, she gets some flak for her late join time and weakness to bows even though she has 50 Dragonstone uses (increased from Fae’s 30 Divinestone uses).
Syrene
General Ranking: 1.5/5 (D + D + D + E) Growth Changes: 35% > 40% Str Base Changes: 10 > 12 Str; 8 > 10 Def; 10 > 12 Res
For the same reasons as English tier lists, Syrene is ranked low for her late join time, bad bases, and growths that won’t let her catch up.
