o henry sempre foi um pouco mais contido, de não saber expressar tão bem em palavras o que ele sente, então imagino que isso seja uma forma dele fazer isso, além dos famosos atos de serviço. tanto que, enquanto namoravam, ele deveria ficar sempre com o braço nos ombros da acacia quando estavam jutos, pra ficar próximo, por exemplo, ou abraçando ela quando iam dormir.

bom, apesar do henry se sentir um pouco patético por não ter superado ainda ela, seria uma mentira falar que o coração dele é de qualquer outra pessoa agora que não da acacia. os dois terminaram dois anos atrás e realmente não era algo que o henry achava que iria acontecer, acabou ficando muito magoado com tudo, mas nem isso fez com que conseguisse simplesmente apagar o sentimento que tinha por ela completamente. tanto que, mesmo tendo entrado em um relacionamento um ano atrás, esse não acabou indo pra frente kkkkkkkkk

não era mistério pra ninguém que o relacionamento deles era realmente sério, no entanto, só os amigos mais próximos - como o jack - e a irmã mais nova sabiam que o henry queria pedir ela em casamento. era parte dos planos do henry, mas ele queria que tudo fosse perfeito, não queria apressar o pedido e não escolher uma boa hora por isso. então, provavelmente foram uns dois/três meses entre ele amadurecer a ideia e começar a realmente procurar um anel que lembrasse dela na hora em que visse. quanto ao pedido em si, não tinha se decidido quando que seria o momento ideal, então a data em que seria era incerta, mas ele tinha três ideias até lá: a primeira, de levar ela pra uma viagem quando os dois estivessem disponíveis, pra algum lugar que ela quisesse muito conhecer ou simplesmente um que os dois gostassem muito de viajar juntos - como uma praia -, e fazer em algum momento lá; a segunda, de levar a acacia pra algum lugar que ela gostasse muito dentro da cidade, passarem o dia juntos como se fosse um encontro deles, normal, e fazer o pedido quando estivessem sozinhos na casa de um deles após; a terceira, era de ser um pedido mais espontâneo - o que o henry nunca foi, mas se aprendeu a ser um pouco mais com ela -, de carregar o anel com ele até sentir que era o momento ideal. mas, no fim a gente sabe que não foi nenhum desses pra frente KKKKKKKKKK.

o henry nunca foi de ser tão interessado por conta própria, mas, sempre que esteve em um relacionamento, sempre tentou fazer algo especial no dia pra namorada - fosse levar em um encontro que iria gostar, presentear com algo que teria falado em algum momento que queria. porque, mesmo não fazendo muita diferença pra ele, queria deixar a outra pessoa feliz.

FILM ADAPTATION

Our group have decided to adapt O. Henry's, 'Proof of the Pudding.'

OUR STORY

Westbrooke is an established editor who one day is confronted in a park by writer Dawe who demands to know why his old friend won't print any of his stories. The two boil the argument to their opposing views on how humans react to tragedy - Westbooke believes that Dawe's characters' monotone reactions are unrealistic as he believes the shock of tragedy would call wailing and screaming not speechless disbelief. Dawe devices a plan to test the theory which Westbooke agrees to - they head to Dawe's flat to leave a note for Dawe's wife stating that he has left her so they can watch her reaction from a hiding spot. However, when the two men arrive, Mrs Dawe who had been training for the Opera had already left a note to say that she had run off with Mrs Westbrooke. Mr Dawe's reaction disproves his point as he plunges into a tragic shakespearean monologue to express his grief. Mr Westbrooke on the other hand disproves his own theory by reacting almost nonchalantly from shock.

OUR APPROACH

We will be following the original story as follows, based in 1970s Edinburgh. When the two men are arguing about how people react to tragedy, we had the idea of doing cutaways of people re-enacting said tragedies as described edited in the style of Edgar Wright.

Once we reach the point where the two men start scheming to leave the note, we will begin following the wives too. Dawe's wife's reason to leave him is his incapability to provide for her and it pushes her to fully pursue her opera career. Westbrooke's wife leaves him due to his work obsessed nature. We in no way want to spoil the ending (the wives running off) before the two men find out about it, we will only be showing them two preparing to run off through their interactions. These shots of the wives scheming to leave will be intercut with the ones of the husbands scheming to leave the note, reminiscent of Thelma and Louise (1991).

Once the men find the notes their wives left them, we will cut to a stage with a single spotlight on Dawe as he wails and exclaims his Shakespearean monologue. We will then match cut back to the kitchen where Dawe will be in the same position on the kitchen and Westbrooke will have his nonchalant reaction.

Finally we could do a post credit scene potentially of the two women holding hands, revealing their relationship.

LOCATIONS

There are 3 locations needed. We are first following our character walk through the busy streets of New York which we will change to a busy street in Edinburgh, most likely Princes Street, on which we will decide when we scout for locations.

We will film in a park like Harrison Park, alluding to it being Princes Street Gardens.

For the scenes in Dawe's flat, we will be shooting in my flat and we are planning on getting in touch with the drama society to secure a theatre stage.

THE CHARACTERS

We will be looking for two men and two women in their 30s. To fit into the time period we will be sourcing, trench coats, smart shoes, briefcases and hats for the men, similar to Zodiac (2007). We would also love to source some typewriters if possible and some magazines from the 70s.

The women will be in their 30s too, initially dressed as typical 70s housewives and will get changed into denim and tank tops, again, reminiscent on Thelma and Louise.

MY ROLE

The structure of our film is divided into 3 acts. 

The first one follows Westbrook walking through the street toward the park on his lunch break. This will be shot with a shoulder rig or maybe even a gimble to capture a nice smooth handheld motion. Once the two men sit at the park, i will be using wide lenses with a large depth of field to capture the distance between the two. once their conversation gets more passionate as they argue, the lenses will get tighter  

Act 2 is when we can get much more creative, capturing that Edgar Wright sort of filmmaking with faster cuts, intercutting and match cutting the parallel storylines of the husbands and wives scheming. I’ll be using tighter lenses with a much smaller depth of field. The match cutting will require careful planning. I’m hoping to get dolly trained so we can get some nice tracking shots as both parties scheme and get ready. 

The first two acts are dependant on good weather conditions. 

Act 3 will be located in a theatre which we are still working out the logistics of. We want a single spotlight on Dawe as he has his shakespearean breakdown over his wife leaving him. It’ll be a lot of fun playing with the high contrast lighting and the dolly. 

At the bottom is our current colour palette that we are working with - the first two acts will be very warm and the colours very soft, reminiscent of the 70s. 

NEXT STEPS

Francis, our writer, has finalised a story outline and will now begin writing the script after which I will storyboard to create a shotlist. Our group has been meeting every week to discuss our next steps.

my favorite female character: June. I love how you can see that she loves and cares for Alex and her friends, I love the scene of her telling Alex she knows he’s sleeping with Henry. It’s one of the only shortcomings I think this book has, is that June’s storyline feels a little left out, the whole thing with her ex boyfriend and her job and stuff?

my favorite male character: Alex. Omg Alex is like….. I love him so much and I relate to him so much it’s crazy but I don’t think I’ve loved a character as much as I’ve loved him ever since Hermione Granger when I was seven years old. I’m not even exaggerating.

quando decidiu contar ao amigo sobre o seu último encontro com a ex-namorada, sabia muito bem em que situação estava entrando. quem sabe, a conversa que tiveram quando contou para ele que ela havia voltado para a cidade novamente deveria ter servido de aviso de tudo o que acabaria escutando caso se entregasse por estar voluntariamente passando tempo com ela novamente, contudo, não gostava muito da ideia de deliberadamente ocultar informações dele. não somente porque, na verdade, era o que tinha feito desde que estivera no apartamento dela na semana anterior, como porque sabia que uma hora ou outra ele acabaria descobrindo. com isso, teria de ouvir praticamente um sermão. agora que o escutava reagir ao que fora contado inicialmente sobre a ida ao apartamento de acacia, era até possível imaginar que a situação seria cômica para alguém que não estivesse na pele de henry. visto que a reação dele era de visível ofensa, além de incredulidade, e as expressões em seu semblante usualmente o fariam querer rir. “tá, mas eu quero saber uma coisa primeiro. você foi exatamente na casa dela por quê?”, escutou jack questionar. resolveu tomar mais um gole da cerveja que havia pedido, então apoiando a garrafa na mesa do bar em que estavam. “cara, eu já disse. tinha oferecido caso ela precisasse de ajuda com a mudança, acabou precisando, e por isso eu fui lá. não tem nada demais em ajudar ela a montar o armário da sala, é o mínimo que eu podia fazer.” tentou argumentar, ainda que não tenha ajudado os dois. em certo ponto, imaginava que tinha acabado de dar um ponto contra para jack de graça. “e você é a única pessoa que ela conhece na cidade agora, pra ficar pedindo favor pra você?”, retrucou ele. o britânico grunhiu, passando a mão destra por seu cabelo enquanto tentava organizar seus pensamentos. 

“não é assim, nem vem. você sabe que ela não teria me pedido se não precisasse.” por mais que os dois não estivessem exatamente confortáveis com a situação em que se encontravam, se vendo por um primeiro momento após dois anos do término conturbado de seu relacionamento, era óbvio para henry que acacia não usaria aquilo como uma desculpa para conversarem. provavelmente, ela estivera com a mesma estranheza que ele sobre tudo aquilo. e, estando em seu lugar, teria tentado várias alternativas antes de ter de ligar para a ex. “isso porque ela sabe que você é burro e iria fazer o que ela te pedisse, né. como que você não se ligou ainda que tá dando abertura pra ela te fazer de idiota? é um favor ali, outro aqui, e daqui a pouco já começa a inventar alguma conversa de vocês voltarem.”, escutar todo o falatório do melhor amigo ocasionou um revirar de olhos de henry. “acho que aí você se esqueceu de quem terminou, né. ela não tem motivo nenhum pra inventar isso.” não quis mencionar para ele os detalhes da conversa que tiveram antes de sua saída do apartamento dela, mas não conseguia tirar suas palavras da mente. conversar sobre o fim do relacionamento era algo que tinha imaginado por bastante tempo, embora nunca de maneira concreta, e ainda sentia que havia faltado dizer muito. o que havia se permitido contar para jack, contudo, era justamente a interpretação que havia tirado: ela não iria querer o relacionamento de novo, estavam em outra etapa de suas vidas. por mais que aquela ideia ainda fosse eficaz em doer dentro dele. “se ela quisesse mesmo tentar voltar comigo, não teria sido desse jeito, e… olha, não interessa. eu não vou simplesmente cortar ela da minha vida de novo, esqueceu que a gente tem os mesmos amigos? não tem motivo pra deixar tudo num desconforto do caralho pra todo mundo só porque conversar com ela mexe comigo.” a escolha de palavras final foi o suficiente para ocasionar um arquear de sobrancelhas de jack, que cruzou os braços do outro lado da mesa. o que, no mesmo instante, causou certo arrependimento em henry por ter falado daquela maneira. porque não precisava nem ser dito o que jack pensava: o que foi que eu disse? 

pegou a garrafa de bebida outra vez, tomando um pouco mais que anteriormente. precisava pensar, era fato, mas quando se tratava de acacia parecia que pensar nunca realmente o levava a lugar algum. não além daquela saudade que se instaurava quando acabava pensando por muito tempo em como eram no tempo em que namoraram, ou da mágoa que se instalava quando a discussão de seu término surgia em ênfase outra vez. de toda forma, nunca conseguia sair ganhando. porque a saudade não era algo que ele deveria se permitir sentir dela, quando o término havia deixado bem claro que estavam em lugares em suas vidas que não eram mais compatíveis. “é que… você não entende.” murmurou. “a gente… nós temos tempo demais nessa história toda pra simplesmente apagar da minha mente só porque ela terminou comigo. eu não consigo só desligar tudo da minha cabeça e ser totalmente indiferente, e por isso também não esqueço como tudo aquilo foi uma merda.” e, apesar da conversa que tinham agora ter cada lado com uma opinião, se lembrava com muito apreço por todo o apoio que jack dera no fim do relacionamento com acacia. embora não houvesse sido a primeira vez em que uma relação dele acabava, era a única ocasião em que aquilo tinha vindo completamente sem esperar - mesmo que, com o tempo, houvesse buscado indícios anteriores - e que não imaginava que aconteceria. porque pensava que eles eram uma certeza. e jack esteve lá ao seu lado, da mesma maneira que henry esteve no dele, quando enfim colocou um ponto final no relacionamento conturbado que tinha com melissa. “a acacia não é o tipo de pessoa que se aproveitaria de me pedir as coisas, aliás.” quis esclarecer. não achava que funcionaria de muito, porém, visto que a expressão no rosto de jack gritava ‘se você diz…’. “e nós precisávamos conversar sobre essa merda toda, de um jeito ou de outro. não era pra mudar algo entre a gente, até porque, novamente, ela não quer voltar comigo. não tem nenhum plano secreto pra me fazer correr atrás dela.” era meio ridículo falar daquela maneira, mas estava certo de jack ter em mente que era muito conveniente acacia tentar alguma espécie de reaproximação através do pedido de desculpas quando retornou para a cidade, quando não havia feito nada para entrar em contato com o ex-namorado durante o tempo fora - até porque ele já havia dito de outros jeitos diferentes. “olha, não tô afim de falar mais disso hoje.” sabia muito bem que acabaria deixando escapar o assunto das fotos que existiam no quadro caso continuassem naquilo, e a existência da foto em que se beijavam era algo que queria manter para si mesmo. porque não conseguia afirmar precisamente o que significava para o próprio coração, para ela, e para eles. “termina de me contar aquele negócio do seu cliente?”

Stone Lake House

  Located in The Reserve at Lake Keowee in upstate South Carolina, this lake house with stone exterior is beyond words! I honestly feel very proud to be sharing it with you today.

This vacation lake house was designed by Timothy S. Adams  TS Adams Studio (Noah Speights was the project manager) and the impeccable interiors are by Barbara Westbrook of Westbrook Interiors. It took many years (eight, to be precise) for the homeowners to finally have their dream lakehouse, but the right moment certainly arrives to those that persist upon their dream.

What I love most about this home is that nothing is predicable yet everything feels balanced and in harmony. You will notice that most of the furnishings are custom (available through the designer), but I will be sharing similar items to make it more accessible.

I also want to take a minute to thank all of you, my dear readers for sharing the posts with your friends and for pinning the pictures. Thank you for your continuous support. I truly appreciate each and every one of you!

  Stone Lake House

From the architect: “Essentially, we wanted this home to look like a cottage that stood the test of time, but has been updated with a fresh perspective.”

An enchanting arched door opens to an equally enchanting foyer with natural stone flooring and nickel joint walls.

Great Room

This Great Room is one of the most impressive I have seen in a while. The decor fits perfectly with the architectural details. Notice the gorgeous stone fireplace and the ceiling featuring scissor Timber trusses. Ceiling also features dormers on both sides.

Fireplace & Chandelier

The fireplace design was inspired by an image the architect saw many years back in an old Arts and Crafts book. Notice the two timbers projecting out of the fireplace where the sconces were hung.

Now, this is a kitchen!!! Pay close attention to the details…  Notice the side cabinets framing the kitchen hood area and that stunning – yet neutral – backsplash tile. The kitchen hood is a custom iron hood vent.

Bed

I have always being a fan of four poster canopy beds and this wrought iron bed is beyond words! The bed is by Kerry Joyce.

Master Bathroom

The bathroom cabinetry is a custom stain on oak. The vanity is 8′-8″ Wide. The recessed medicine cabinets are custom. The designer combined an interior window with custom medicine cabinets to create this look.

The wall color is Classic Gray by Pratt and Lambert.

I absolutely love bathrooms with hardwood flooring. Add shiplap and custom drapery and you have a winner!

Steps

I am loving this stone paver stairway with rustic wood railing. This is a great a idea for sloping lots.

Steps are made of natural Weathered Granite.

Lake-life

Look at this view and take a deep breath and let it go. Imagine breathing the fresh air, smelling the earth and hearing the water gently hit the shore…
