An Update to the Shendex
Hello all!
A little while ago, I made a post asking people to send me a list of main characters or love interests in danmei with the surname "Shen" in order to create a comprehensive list. That received a bit more traction than I thought it would, but not much in the way of new Shens. I am happy to announce, however, that I have googled the hell out of this and found an additional 20+ Official, Honorary, and Supporting Character Shens to add to the prospective Shendex. Here is the list (at present).
The Current Shendex
Seven Seas Danmei
Shen Shiliu/Gu Yun (Stars of Chaos)
Shen Qiao (Thousand Autumns)
Shen Qingqiu/Shen Yuan (The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System)
Shen Wei (Guardian)
Shen Zechuan (Ballad of Sword and Wine)
Novel Updates
Shen Ci (Vase Cannon Fodder Is Pampered by the Group Again)
Shen Gurong (Transmigrated Into The High-Risk Profession Life As A Master)
Shen Jin (After Being Moved to Tears by the Sworn Enemy’s Pheromones)
Shen Jin (Agreement Mark)
Shen Jue (A Hundred Ways To Kill A Heartthrob)
Shen Junci (Insights of the Medical Examiner)
Shen JunXi (Transmigrated into the Pastoral Scenery)
Shen Ke (Dandy Escapes From Marriage)
Shen Kong (The Professional Three Views Rectifier [Book Transmigration])
Shen Li (After the Accident, My Boyfriend Got Straight)
Shen Lin (Welcome to the Game Room of Supremacy Luck)
Shen Mofeng (No Money)
Shen Qi (Applaud for Happiness)
Shen Qianling (Everywhere in Jianghu is Wonderful/The Jianghu is Full of Local Tyrants)
Shen Qingcheng (Please Stop Pretending To Be a Cute Newcomer!)
Shen Ruo (Turned out I am a Scheming Little Cannon Fodder)
Shen Tanqi (The Male Lead Ran Away With My Ball)
Shen Tingzhou (I’m a Family Doctor in a Domineering Boss Novel)
Shen Ye (Accidentally Marked The Archenemy)
Shen Yu (Silent Concubine)
Shen Yunxing (Pregnant With The Pup Of A Wealthy Old Man)
Shen Zhixian (It's Not Easy Being a Master)
Honorary Shens
Fu Shen (Golden Terrace)
Lu Tian Shen (Dramatic Fake Young Master Holds the Group’s Favorite Script)
Luoshen (Let Me Go, I’m Not Pregnant)
Tang Shen (The Kingdom That Never Sleeps)
Xu Shen (Transmigrating to 1983)
Supporting Character Shens
Shen Jiu (The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System)
Shen Xingtang (Genius Mechanic)
Shen Yi (Stars of Chaos)
Shen Yuanting (Transmigrated as a Cannon Fodder Who Married into a Wealthy Family)
Now Onto Business...
Now that I have enough Shens to justify the existence of the Shendex, the question becomes how to format it. I'm not the best with this sort of thing, so anyone who wants to help is completely welcome (just DM me). As for how it should look... let's put it to a vote.
My aim is for every entry to include the characters used for each entry's name, a picture if possible, and a quick description of their story as well as a link to it. This could take a while, so I think I'll update it in bits and pieces. As always, you are welcome to send in a Shen if you please---just make sure to stick to danmei because otherwise this thing is going to get looooooong.
See you all next update!

Love of thousand years
Year : 2020 | Country : CN | Nb of episodes: 30
My rate: 5/10
Synopsis :
Fu Jiu Yun is an immortal deity who falls in love with a mortal woman with whom he longs to have a relationship. Plenty powerful yet unable to win her heart, he finds himself following her through a thousand years and ten different mortal incarnations, but to no avail.
Then she is reborn as a princess, giving promise to things being different. And indeed they will be since an evil-minded prince and a group of demons from a neighboring realm hatch a devious plan to destroy the princess. The plot succeeds in wiping out her family and devastating her realm in the process. By taking on the form of her maid Ah Man, she cleverly escapes from her foes.
Determined to exact revenge upon those who wronged her, she invites Fu Jiu Yun to help her, eventually forming a love bond. But destiny dictates that their romance may be short-lived, forcing them to make difficult decisions that will forever impact their lives and those of the princess’ subjects.
Main cast :
Zheng Ye Cheng as Fu Jiu Yun
Zhao Lu Si as Di Ji/ Qin Chuan
My thoughts on this drama :
Yet another Xianxia drama… It is my "péché mignon", my guilty pleasure. I do like those beautiful men with their long shiny hair… I'll be honest, I only stayed for Zheng Ye Cheng. That kid is a treat. Beautiful. Good actor. Very expressive. And his character here? The biggest flirt ever. Damn, I'm still suffering from second-hand embarrassment! For once, the main female lead, played by Zhao Lu Si, is not too annoying. She even got some badass in her, a nice change. The story is on the original side, but we still find many of the usual plots, common to this kind of dramas. The OST is beautiful, that is a good point as well. All in all, not a memorable show, but I enjoyed it the time it lasted. I'll still watch the "behind the scenes" videos for a long time because as I said, little YeCheng is a treat!!!
A Favorite ?

Possible high school AU for Yi Bao and Yi Jiu, made with Picrew.
...Oh, I haven't said anything about Yi Jiu?
So she's basically Yi Bao's counterpart in Ravages of Time because I'm already deep down in that puzzling hell of a fandom. Her story is different from Yi Bao, though; she is Huang Zhong's sidekick of some sorts, like Deng Ai to Zhang Liao in Chapter 404 (Ziyi feels betrayed somewhat). Her father works for Liu Biao, and Yi Jiu herself is acquainted with Huang Zhong and Gan Ning. Following her father and lord's eventual death, and Gan Ning's later defection to Sun clan, she clings onto Huang Zhong and follows him around. They will later meet Wei Yan, and eventually serve Liu Bei. And no, she's not going to be put under Zhao Yun.
As I just reached the prelude of Chibi, Huang Zhong is currently out of focus and therefore I don't know what happened to him after the battle against Team Sun.
Yi Jiu is basically a vent-out character for me; I like female characters who can rock in both weapon usage and fist fights, and historical patriarchy portrayed in Ravages isn't giving me that. And Ravages itself has very limited female character design as most of the women have very similar faces, just different hairstyles; so far only Zhen Fu, Sun Shu, Lady Fan, and (maybe) Shan Wuling/Zhang Chunhua actually have different looks, and only the latter three have actual personalities. So, I designed Yi Jiu with the standard female characteristics, plus scars, a pike, and a bit brashness. She also loves mocking enemies by flaunting her feminine looks as she beats the hell out of them.
Will her love interest be the same as Yi Bao's? I haven't even seen Wei Yan yet.
I want to draw her engaging in a childish fight with Ling Tong someday~ :3

Love of Thousand Years (2020)
Summary
Fu Jiu Yun is an immortal deity who falls in love with a mortal woman and longs to begin a relationship with her. Although he is very powerful, he finds himself repeatedly unable to win her heart, and instead ends up following her through 1,000 years and 10 different mortal incarnations. But when she is reborn as a princess, things promise to be different – particularly after an evil-minded prince from a neighboring realm hatches a devious plan with a group of demons. The plot succeeds in wiping out the princess’ family and devastating her realm, but she manages to take on the form of her maid Ah Man and evades her foes. Determined to exact revenge on those who wronged her, she allows Fu Jiu Yun to help her, and the duo eventually forms a love bond. But when they discover that destiny dictates that their romance may have an unexpectedly short life, the duo is forced to make difficult decisions that will impact their lives – and those of the princess’ subjects – forever.
Review
A Waste Of A Good Story
Love Of Thousand Years could really have been an epic like Love And Destiny and The Untamed if it is better laid out. But the producers have wasted a good story to me. It does have a few things going for it to make it watchable though. Firstly, the main leads make a cute couple. Zheng Ye Cheng and Zhao Lu Si did their best to display the pull of a forbidden relationship as they toy with each other. They display a chemistry that makes it easy for viewers to root for a happy ending for them. Secondly, I feel the main cast acted well in all their roles. At least, I did not cringe at their acting throughout the drama. Zheng Ye Cheng has the aura of a flirtatious immortal and he is able to capture on-screen attention with his stares. Zhao Lu Si gives me the vibe of a carefree princess who has matured due to the tragic events that she has experienced. Molly Wang has an arrogance and evilness in her character that are tempered with self-doubt and a desire to let go. She is able to portray a character in conflict with herself. As for Liu Yi Tong, he did well as a man wrecked by guilt and loathing because of his father’s betrayal. Finally, Love Of Thousand Years is really a good story if you ignore the editing and details. The pacing is quite good as it doesn’t really drag on and on like some longer dramas. I know it is hard to overlook the drama’s weaknesses but do give the story a chance regardless of the ending. I think it is an interesting one but just that, it has not been fully taken advantage of to give viewers a truly epic tale. Why You Should Drop It Now that I have told you why you should watch Love Of Thousand Years, I should also warn you where it fails. The first thing that could put people off is right at the beginning. The drama starts with Angelina Jiang as Princess Yan Yan. Just as you think she is the main actress, that changes immediately to Zhao Lu Si in the second episode. So, the lady that Jiu Yun loves in the first episode has a totally different face in the second although they are supposed to be the same person. The plot requires the face change but to some viewers, it takes away the romanticism that is important in a love story. The next thing that could make you drop this is the poor editing especially in the last episode. The scenes jump without proper explanation of what is going on. It could also be because the story is not being told in a right way with many things being left out and unexplained. Without the details, the drama is full of plot holes and guess work. Another thing that annoys me is the flashbacks. It is fine to have flashbacks to emphasize a certain point or feeling but it shouldn’t be overdone. In Love Of Thousand Years, I find that they have inserted one too many flashbacks that repeat the same scenes. Perhaps they want to lengthen certain episodes but I find them to be unnecessary. Finally, the ending for this drama sucks. There is no proper clarification as to what happened. I know some dramas do leave room for viewers’ imagination such as Legend Of Yun Xi. But this really takes it to another level when viewers are unsure if everything is a dream, a rebirth, or just a story in a painting. My Verdict As much as I want to, I can’t really give a high rating for this Love Of Thousand Years review. A score of 6.5/10 is perhaps fair given its weaknesses as laid out above. I wouldn’t really recommend you to watch it if you are very particular about having a good ending for your dramas. This one is most probably going to leave you disappointed. It is also a pity that they have censored some of the kissing scenes. I know even modern dramas like Here To Heart have to take out steamy scenes to comply with the strict rules. You have the sweet moments for the main couple here but if you are expecting a bit more kisses to let you feel the love between them, it is going to fall short compared to, say, The Love By Hypnotic with its numerous intimate scenes. Having said that, you can still watch Love Of Thousand Years for Zheng Ye Cheng. I like him from Love 020 and he has definitely
matured with this role as the flirtatious Jiu Yun. Speaking of being flirty, I still prefer Ethan Juan’s Wuji in Legend Of Fuyao but then, I’m sure many female viewers can’t resist Zheng Ye Cheng’s handsome boy looks either. ?
