Representatives of factions in Veilguard

Apart from our companions, it seems that each faction in the Veilguard will be represented by a pair (or more?) of main NPCs. Some of them already appeared in the trailer!

Antivan Crows

Viago de Riva and Andarateia Cantori (Teia)

Fifth and Seventh Talon of the Antivan Crows, respectively. We met them both in Tevinter Nights and in the comics (Deception, The Missing). Viago is bastard son of Antivan King and master poisoner. Teia is an elven thief and seductress. Her raise in ranks was considered controversial, since she had no connections and is not of noble blood.

They are dating (kinda sorta?)

Grey Wardens

Evka Ivo and Antoine

Evka is a formerly Orzammar dwarf who was saved by a Grey warden and joined their ranks. Antoine is an elf from Orlais, who was tainted and saved by Joining. We met them in Tevinter Nights, protecting a village from a very non-Darkspawn threat, in short stories on Bioware website and in comics The Missing.

Veil Jumpers

Irelin and Strife

Irelin is a Dalish elf from clan Morlyn. She is a shapeshifter mage. Strife is a former city elf from Starkhaven who joined Dalish as adult. He is a capable archer (and older, at least 50-60). We meet them in Tevinter Nights, short story on Bioware website and in comics The Missing.

They were both confirmed to appear in GameInformer article, which I sadly can't link due to GI being shut down. Irelin also appears in the shot of the trailer.

Mourn Watch

From now on, this is speculation, nothing confirmed in trailer or other media. For Mourn Watch, I think the representative NPCs will be:

Audric Felhausen and Myrna

Audric is a formerly city watch member who now works for Mourn watch and guards/catalogues library. We learn something interesting about him in Tevinter Nights! Myrna is a mage who we meet in the same story he appears in.

Possibly in this shot next to door, as spotted by a friendly redditor!

Lords of Fortune

Again, no confirmation. We meet one Lord of Fortune in Absolution, though Bioware said the cartoon is its own thing and not connected to Veilguard.

In Tevinter Nights, we meet two possible candidates:

Hollix, nonbinary Lord of Fortune, who is expert at disguise. We might have already met them, but we wouldn't be able to tell! Probably human, but its unclear?

Bharv is a dwarf and experienced Lord of Fortune from Rivain.

No pics here either!

Shadow Dragons

This group is most enigmatic, as its completely new to us! It was never mentioned in any of the Dragon Age media before Veilguard. We do meet Neve in Tevinter Nights, though she isn't a member there yet (or she doesn't mention it).

Of course, one has to wonder if we weren't shown any NPC members bcs they will be some of the returning companions. Options include:

Dorian, our beloved companion from DA:I, who returned to Tevinter to fight injustice. He has the advantage of being always alive (unlike other companions, like Iron Bull).

Maevaris Tilani is a character from comics and also appeared in Tevinter Nights (and was mentioned in War Table mission). She is a Tevinter Magister, trans woman and also kin to Varric through marriage. She kicks ass and I sincerely hope we meet her!

Fenris, our beloved companion from DA2! He is a former elven slave and recently appeared in comics as someone who helps others escape slavery, which aligns with Shadow Dragons missions. He can die in DA2, but only in a very specific case - so I wonder if Bioware will pull Leliana with him and just say his lyrium tattoos saved him from death.

DA Review Series: Dragon Age Day Short Stories

There are seven stories, all set after Tevinter Nights. As with other short stories, I'll talk a little about the entire collection, and then about each one individually.

Title: Dragon Age Day Short Stories 2020-2022 Author(s): Various Publication Year(s): 2020, 2021, 2022 In-World Year: ~9:45+ Dragon Verdict: While I felt all of these stories were too short, they are wonderful snippets for introducing us to the factions in Veilguard, as well as some locations. They're just enough to pique our interest and add to the hype!

Title: Minrathous Shadows Author: Sheryl Chee Publication Year: 2020 In-World Year: 9:45+ Dragon Verdict: while I'm always down to read a story where a slave owner gets what's coming to them, this story feels very lean and leaves a lot to be inferred. The Shadow Dragons are never explicitly mentioned, though the Viper is referenced. I'm excited to see more of this faction in game.

Title: The Next One Author: Brianne Battye Publication Year: 2020 In-World Year: 9:45+ Dragon Verdict: This one also suffers from being a little too short, but I love seeing Evka Ivo's Warden origin story. It's fantastic and tells us a bit about her values, and why she and Antoine might be so compatible.

Title: Ruins of Reality Author: John Dombrow Publication Year: 2020 In-World Year: 9:45+ Dragon Verdict: Look, anything happening in Arlathan Forest is something I want to know about. And I loved seeing Strife and Irelin again. Quests for the Veil Jumpers are gonna a trip!

Title: The Wake Author: Mary Kirby Publication Year: 2020 In-World Year: 9:45+ Dragon Verdict: I love Illario and feel bad for the guy in this story, but Viago is the real star. He doesn't have the same sympathy for Illario that I or Teia have, and that adds just enough humor to keep me guessing about Lucanis. Does Viago know something Illario doesn't? Hmmm...

Title: The Flame Eternal Author: Sylvia Feketekuty Publication Year: 2021 In-World Year: 9:52 + 9:22 Dragon Verdict: Very short but sweet - a great intro for Emmrich. This story reintroduces us to The Mourn Watch, as well Emmrich Volkarin. It's recounted from the present, stating "30 years ago, in 9:22 Dragon" so we know the narrator is in ~9:52 Dragon. We also know that Emmrich is a bit older in present day, so this seems like an extra treat to see him younger and still a romantic!

While short and sweet, it's almost too much of either to offer much lore, but it is a great character introduction and makes me very curious to learn more about The Mourn Watch!

Title: Won't Know When Author: Brianne Battye Publication Year: 2021 In-World Year: ~9:45 Dragon Verdict: Ahhhhhhh. This is the most sweet — and grim — little story ever. I LOVE Evka and Antoine and I love that they get to be in love, despite the madness that is Thedas and the horror that is being a Grey Warden. I am rooting for them!

Title: As We Fly Author: Lukas Kristjanson Publication Year: 2022 In-World Year: 9:45+ Dragon Verdict: "The Crows rule Antiva, and Treviso will be free." I love all the Crows stories we've had so far, but this one has me the most hyped for Treviso as a location. I can't wait to wreak havoc on the Antaam and maybe get in another duel with an Arishok? *wink wink*

BACKGROUND 

Ivo grew up luckily very well off in a posh area of London, he lived with his mother Evka Lilian for a short amount of time with her wife Scarlet Lilian. Evka had migrated from Czech when she had a intimate run in with the Prince of Hell, Sammael. Having a child with him and soon marrying Scarlet when they met at a Lesbian bar.

Ivo lived 8 happy years with his two mothers until his warlock mark appeared. The two eyes of fire burning with passion and anger. Neither Evka or Scarlet wished to keep him as he scared them both too much. They believed they couldn’t handle a devil child.

Ivo, soon becoming newly homeless, began to lead himself on the streets of London till Ragnor Fell found him. Ivo was fascinated by him and his warlock marks, he finally found someone like him. Ragnor took him into his home being the High Warlock of London. A bond was created between them, Ragnor became a father figure towards him but Ragnor never seemed to like the idea.

Eventually Ivo stopped ageing around 25. In his time with Ragnor he had met Magnus Bane, a powerful warlock who he grew to become very close friends with and occasionally be more. Nothing serious. As well his mothers had been killed by the mundane government as gay relationships weren’t accepted. Later on he became very close friends with Luke Garroway and harboured a crush on him (which to this day he still isn’t over). He went on one date with Isabelle but they ended it off right after as it was just for her shadowhunter mission.

When Ragnor passed away it was painful for Ivo, he had grieved before but never this hard. He struggled to look after himself and that’s when Magnus stayed in London for a bit to help him recover. Eventually when he had mourned he took over the position of High Warlock of London and became a very respectful Warlock amongst all downworlders.

Ivo began to develop his magic especially in the areas of mind control, hellsmoke and electricity. Currently Ivo lives in Ragnors past penthouse in London where he helps the London institute. More recently though he has been in a lot of contact with the Brooklyn institute and the problems with shadowhunters & downworlders over there.

Ellen Dublin (Wiki, Twitter) is listed as the actor of Evka Ivo. Evka appearing in the game was first confirmed in this video from 2 months ago. (here she is, I think)

Joseph Mesiano (website, Twitter) is listed as the actor of Viago de Riva. Viago was first seen in in-game footage in the release date reveal trailer.

Kate Winter (Twitter) is listed as the actor of a character titled "Commander". from the sound of it this could maybe be a side-quest type character or ambient-dialogue type NPC, like "Templar Captain" or "Soldier".

Ossian Perret (Instagram) is listed as an actor, no character name is present in the listing at the time of writing. he has previously appeared in The Witcher and the tv show The Last Kingdom.
