“I know,” Zoya smiled, tears threatening to stain her cheeks. She knew that Emma cared for her, but she hadn’t expected her to be so supportive of everything. She didn’t question why she hadn’t come to her earlier - she was just there for her. “I'm sorry I didn’t tell you earlier. I just didn’t want to add more weight to your shoulders.”

“You truly don’t get it, do you?” Emma’s brows arched up. “I’d do anything for you, Zo. Just how I know you’d do anything for me.” She paused briefly, tucking away a loose lock escaping Zoya’s ponytail. “Jem once told me that his parabatai put his hand in fire in order to save his medicine. A rather reckless, stupid decision, if you ask me, but if we were in the same situation, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it, either. I care about you, Zoya. More than words can explain.”

Zoya didn’t find the answer which could explain just how grateful she was. Perhaps, words couldn't ever explain it, but the way their gazes collided and their smiles grew wider spoke louder than any language ever could. Because, at the end of the day, no matter how hard things became, Emma had Zoya’s back. Just how Zoya had Emma’s.
