Detective Conan/DCMK characters in a Classroom of the Elite setting would be so interesting to watch/read.
I've only just finished the CoTE anime (Seasons 1-3) so i haven't read the manga or the light novel but the Advanced Nurturing Highschool or AHNS for short is so, so shady. If it and the White Room existed in the DCMK universe, I have no doubt in my mind that they would have some connection to the Black Organization.
So just imagine an AU where Shinichi caught Vodka doing an arms deal in middle school but didn't get caught by Gin like in canon. Imagine him trying to investigate them but coming up with nothing until he, Ran, and Sonoko are on a train ride for the first day at AHNS where he runs into Gin and Vodka, just like he did in canon episode 5.
He learns their codenames there and saves the people on the train from being bombed to hell. Unfortunately, this ends up making him, Ran and Sonoko late for their very first day. They're thankfully excused because the incident was out of their hands before being placed into their respective classes.
You can have adult characters like Jodie and Amuro be teachers and business owners while also acting as undercover agents.
Important student characters at the school:
Hattori Heiji (he can be in the same class as Shinichi where they are both antagonistic at first but later become allies and friends)
Toyama Kazuha (they were made for each, I will never seperate them)
Kuroba Kaito (who also happens to be Kaitou KID and regularly sneaks off school campus for heists. Jii Konosuke cases places for him and he contacts the man using a secret phone he smuggled in. He tends to downplay his academic and physical skill to be somewhat average so he's in Class C or B)
Nakamori Aoko
Akako Koizumi (no magic in this AU but she's interested in spirituality and shit like tarot cards and all)
Hakuba Saguru (suspects of Kaito of being KId and regularaly requests time off from school to go to the heists)
Eisuke Hondou (but only for a little while near the end of 1st year as a rival for Shinichi and love interest for Ran before going back to America to pursue the future he wanted)
Sera Masumi (would be introduced in 2nd Year when Shinichi starts investigating Bourbon as a potential subject because she somehow found out he has connection to the maker of the pill that shrunk her mother)
Important characters outside of school
Agasa Hiroshi (supplies Shinichi with spy tech)
Haibara Ai AKA Miyano Shiho (shrunken and lives with Agasa just like in canon, specifically sought Agasa out because he was a connection to Shinichi, who was involved in her sister's case and was a detective at that. They contact each other through secret phone. She also happens to be one of the failed subjects of the white room)
Miyano Akemi (During school break, Shinichi went back to Beika where he was then approached by Masami Hiroto and the rest goes like canon with her dying in his arms)
Akai Shuichi (still don't know what I'm gonna do with him but he's important)
Rena Mizunashi AKA Hidemi Hondou
Side Characters in school
Nakamichi (Shinichi's soccer friend)
Eisuke Aizawa (Shinichi's soccer friend)
Kazumi Tsukamoto (a third year in Ran's karate club)
Tashiro (Ran's friend)
Hidaka (Ran's friend)
Anyways, I imagine Shinichi being in a different class from Ran and Sonoko and just thinking about ShinRan competeing but also saving each other's asses from time to time is beautiful.
Having Kaito and Shinichi's respective Black Organization be one and the same would make it more interesting as well.
Anyways, I think these characters are fun to play around with in this setting, mixing the dramatic school life in CoTE with the looming threat of the Black Organization as Shinichi delves deeper and deeper into the case.
Idk how this would be resolved but it would be so, so fun to read if written well. Shinichi's gonna be so paranoid by the end of this lol.

初恋のにおい
How will it end? Sachiko sipped her ice-cold juice, savoring the cool air from the car's AC. The pink peach flavor tasted like summer and love. Her mom was across the street buying cigarettes, ready to dash off to her next date. Dad's party raged on halfway around the world, never-ending.
A 7 PM flight, a 4 PM pause. Miura sat beside her, holding hands in the car, watching the sunset paint the sky. It was almost time to say goodbye - her fleeting youth and the boy who knew every secret of it...
The boy turned to look at her, his eyes clear and bright, a hint of sadness on his still boyish face. Like the little mermaid who couldn't speak, he didn't want to let go of her hand. Instead, he mouthed the words slowly: "僕のことを忘れないでね(Don't forget me)…"
"Cut!"
The set burst into noise. Crew members pushed equipment back and forth while the director and writer whispered instructions behind the camera.
Ran quickly tore her gaze away from the boy's pink tongue. Darn it—she'd forgotten she was supposed to kiss him mid-"sentence". This first kiss was the movie's big scene, with a rare on-location shoot: the harbor, sunset, shadowy car windows, and a girl's unspoken feelings. Too bad they messed up the first take. Dejected, she pushed the door open and got out, allowing her assistant to shove the marked-up script into her arms.
"Read it over and try to nail it next time," the director urged.
Or maybe it was, "It's Ran-chan's first on-screen kiss. Don't put too much pressure on the kid," from the actress playing her mom.
Or even, "Come take a break! I brought bubble tea," from Aunt Yukiko who'd stopped by to visit.
In the end, it was Shinichi, getting out from the other side, who came around and led the embarrassed Ran to Yukiko. The famous actress effortlessly flashed a dazzling smile, offering bubble tea to every crew member who passed by calling her "Fujiyama" or "Yukiko".
Time was ticking, and clear days were rare. In this mother-daughter parallel love story, while things weren't going smoothly on Ran's end, the cigarette-buying mom was already becoming the focus in front of the camera.
Another bubble tea was pushed into her hands as the bustling crew moved across the street. They were left leaning against the hot railings of the harbor bridge, watching Yukiko freely mingle on set. Ran awkwardly swirled her cold bubble tea, her stomach too full of juice to fit another 500cc. She passed it to Shinichi, watching him gulp it down and stumble from the heat.
During this summer break of her third year in middle school, she'd landed this role. It all started when a visiting director spotted her at the Kudo house and asked her to cameo. Now it was her first movie as a main character. Finish shooting quickly, then off to New York with Shinichi - the perfect plan, but...
"It's all Shinichi's fault," she grumbled, setting aside her prop juice. "Why did you have to play Miura?"
Shinichi tugged at his sweat-soaked collar. Before the car kiss scene, there was what he called an "awkward" drama-style chase scene: An anxious boy, unable to call out, his words trapped inside, running with all his might. Only Sachiko's chance glance in the rearview mirror, their eyes meeting, gave him this last moment with his first love.
"Didn't you say you wanted to wrap this up quickly so we could go to New York?" he asked.
"Well, yes, but... kissing you is just too weird!"
Ran covered her face, feeling somewhat flustered. When she first read the script with intimate scenes, she thought it was no big deal. It was just a pure, lips-touching kiss. When the crew couldn't find a suitable male actor, she could still laugh off Sonoko's wild guesses. But when Yukiko whispered that "the director thinks Shin-chan would be perfect," and Sonoko's expression went from shocked to knowing, Ran's instincts tingled. A very, very strange feeling... What was it? Too many hand-holding scenes, too many gazing into each other's eyes. Her heart was a mess.
"Kissing a stranger would be weirder," Shinichi said confidently.
Could that be true? Ran hesitantly recalled how distracted she'd been during filming. Every detail magnified - Shinichi's face, his expression as he seriously mouthed "Don't forget me." It was as if... that's what Shinichi really wanted to say to Ran.
It must be the heat.
The unbearable warmth from head to toe, her young heart beating vigorously, the blush on her cheeks in the makeup mirror - it was definitely because of the heat. Damn summer.
Shinichi sipped his bubble tea, seemingly relaxed, staring absent-mindedly at Ran's face in the mirror. Sachiko was a girl who grew up by the sea, with wind-tousled hair and sun-kissed skin. To fit the character, he'd dutifully suffered with Ran under the seaside sun for two weeks. He ended up matching the script's description of Miura, but Ran's skin remained fair as ever. Illogical. The makeup artist, finding a moment to touch up, applied foundation and surveyed her blusher for a while. In the end, she just wiped the sweat off Ran's forehead and giggled, "Looks like we won't need this," making the girl in the mirror blush even deeper. Hmm... Shinichi raised an eyebrow, feeling pleased. Logical.
He just wondered if this girl understood why he'd snatched the role of Miura.
They sat back in the car parked by the harbor bridge, waiting for the cameras to turn their way. In the script, Sachiko's mom got a call from her husband while buying cigarettes, leading to an argument. Crying, she bumped into her first love on his day off, whose sailboat was named after the flowers blooming when they first met. The adults' complicated entanglements didn't affect the pure yet ambiguous love of the young ones, but Sachiko would experience separations and reunions with her first love as she drifted with her mother.
"So why doesn't Miura confess to Sachiko at this point?" Ran asked, flipping through the script.
Shinichi leaned in close, almost touching heads as they shared the script. "Maybe he's not sure if he can make Sachiko happy?"
Ran turned to him, surprised. "Just because of that? But they've already kissed."
Shinichi pretended to think hard for a while, then said, "I think Miura's a bit insecure. He can't speak, so facing the healthy, bright Sachiko, he wants to leave her more options..." As Ran gave him a slightly shocked "since when are you so insightful" look, he grinned confidently. "If it were me, I wouldn't let the person I like get away so easily."
The sunset outlined his long eyelashes. The boy's soft features were sharpening as he grew, his jawline becoming more defined in the slanting sunlight - that tricky adolescence bridging boy and man. Ran's gaze lingered on him intently. Just as he was about to show a smug expression, she looked back down at the script. "Easily? But Miura chased the car for ages."
Ah—if chasing a girl you like was as simple as running, what challenge would any distance pose?
Shinichi Kudo turned away in frustration, taking another swig of bubble tea, missing Ran's hidden smile as she looked down.
In the distance, the director called for Take 2. The bubble tea was whisked away, replaced by the chilled juice in Ran's hand. Yukiko watched excitedly from beside the camera. The young couple in the car exchanged a glance, then looked away in unison.
Ran gazed at the sunset outside—perfect timing. The sparkling waves matched the overture of youthful love, a wavering, flowing mood ideal for Sachiko and Miura's first kiss. She clenched her fist, determined. Shinichi turned to catch Yukiko winking and giving him a "go for it" gesture. He blushed, remembering how he'd pleaded with his mom for a chance to audition, acting childish after so long.
In this blushing atmosphere, the second take began.
Sipping the chilled juice... A breezy summer evening, not too hot in the air-conditioned car. So Sachiko must be nervous, right? Ran's fingers twitched slightly, her heart racing in sympathy with Sachiko, feeling both happy and bittersweet. The warmth of their hands was undeniable, the person beside her had a vivid presence even in silence. Their last journey together, right after that crazy romantic chase—why the silence? Sachiko couldn't know they'd end up together, so was this first kiss her secret farewell? A bitter kiss, then?
The boy turned to look at her. In the car window, she saw the beautiful sunset and those equally beautiful, sad eyes...
"僕のことを忘れないでね(Don't forget me)..."
This time, she reacted as the script described, leaning in to silence him with a kiss as his lips were still forming the words.
Soft, sweet, tasting of bubble tea.
Wait, that wet, slippery feeling... was it his tongue? Of course, even if the script said just lips touching, kissing suddenly while someone's talking meant tongues would meet. She never knew lips could be so sensitive - this was way more than she'd imagined. Ran's pupils dilated, frozen in place. Her thoughts turned to mush, emotions completely mixed up. It wasn't the bitterness she was supposed to express, but... oh no, she was breaking character.
Oddly enough, they hadn't closed their eyes while kissing. She could see Shinichi's deep blue eyes and her own panic reflected in them. The girl's face flushed like the sunset, her eyes pleading. Thankfully, years of understanding between childhood friends let Shinichi catch her SOS. He covered her eyes with his hand, shielding them from the camera.
Almost out of breath, their lips parted briefly. Her heart raced chaotically. The cameras and crew outside seemed to vanish, leaving them to elope to the ends of the earth. As she gasped for air, he instinctively, recklessly kissed her again.
A second kiss, not in the script.
Then Shinichi felt wetness between his fingers.
Oh no, he'd gone too far. Shinichi pulled back his hand as if burned, waving it awkwardly before wiping away Ran's tears. "I'm sorry, don't cry..." his voice soft and husky. Ran seemed startled by her own tears, letting Shinichi's hand roam her face.
"Cut!"
The lead actress was hurriedly escorted off, meeting tissues for her tears. The makeup artist examined her face, leaving her reddened eyes uncovered. The male actor looked dejected, sneaking glances at his co-star, clearly worried about something.
The director approached, his scrutinizing gaze sweeping over Shinichi and Ran before breaking into a smile, cutting off Ran's attempt to apologize. "That was great this time - I was worried you'd play it too sad. It's Sachiko and Miura's first kiss after all. First kisses are mostly impulse and mutual attraction, not meant to be too rational."
The phrase "mutual attraction" left Shinichi dazed and Ran almost burying her face in the script.
The sun was setting perfectly, golden scales of light dividing the sky into shades of color, their blushing faces nearly melting into the sunset. The director discussed making the little mermaid's lines silent in post-production, but keeping the spontaneous second kiss as Miura's excited response to being kissed by his secret crush was a worthy highlight. Shinichi and Ran leaned against the hot bridge railing again, one staring at the ground, the other gazing at the sky, both hesitant to speak first. Yukiko had disappeared somewhere, and the crew tactfully discussed upcoming scenes, giving them ample space.
"Shinichi, you went too far," Ran finally said, pouting.
"I'm sorry," Shinichi apologized sincerely. He'd just realized Ran's tears might not have meant rejection, but he couldn't tell if the girl was embarrassed or annoyed. Better to apologize first.
"Geez," Ran turned away, smiling. "I just thought, first kisses are a bit..." She turned back seriously, "I mean on-screen first kisses. Kissing you is just too weird."
Ah... Shinichi thought. He finally understood everything that had happened and was yet to happen. It didn't matter if he couldn't always guess his crush's thoughts because someone always smuggled him the answers. He cleared his throat and, under the sunset, gave his first direct response: "I promise I'll do better next time... When we get to New York, can we still ride in the same car?"
This was the summer of their fifteenth year, an ambiguous age where questions and guesses intertwined. So Ran blushed and replied noncommittally, "I'll give you my answer when Sachiko tells Miura hers."
What would the ending be?
Perhaps the journey waiting for that ending was what mattered most. The sea breeze felt so nice. Shinichi smiled, cherishing the certainty amidst all the possibilities, looking forward as never before: Wait a little longer, be patient, until they go to New York together. Then, under the sunset—that "first kiss" would need careful planning. But no matter what happened, he was certain of one thing: as long as he was with Ran, everything would be perfect.
FIN.

Having friends over was something which Sonoko had become quite accustomed to in the last few years. Her house was, by far, the most affluent of her social group. Plenty could be done at her place to keep all her friends entertained and have fun. However, today Sonoko had two very special and unusual guests to show around her house. Her ancestor from 300 years ago, Wakaba, and her past self from her elementary school days.
The civil war going on within the Shinju gave some opportunities which sounded straight out of a dream. Thankfully, in part because of her family being more or less the most influential of the Taisha, they were well aware of the situation, so of course Sonoko was going to take the chance to show her ancestor how the Nogi family was now, and her past self how it’d changed in 2 years.
Tumblr media
“Ancestor-sama, Little Sonocchi, it’s just up ahead~. We’ll be there in a minute~.” The older Sonoko said, currently sitting comfortably in the extravagant limo she’d picked up the other Nogis in.
Tumblr media
“Yaaaay~!” The younger Sonoko cheered, an eager and happy smile on her face. “I wonder what my room looks like now...”

On the Topic of Seiya Kou.
This is a Sailor Moon post rather than a Dragon Age post. Shocker, I know, but Sailor Moon is another one of my loves. This will focus on the 90s anime adaptation of the manga. So do not come at me with “but in the manga,” because the 90s adaptation and the manga were incredibly different in multiple ways. Seiya will be referred to as she/her because the male form was a disguise. That being said, any interpretation of Seiya’s gender is valid and I love them all! Anyway. I see a lot of shit talking about Seiya and it’s honestly ... super tiring. So many of the “negative” points against Seiya are misinterpreted, misunderstood, and misrepresented for the sake of making her look like a dumpster fire. 1. “Seiya is creepy towards Usagi and stalks her.” Except ... she doesn’t. They meet by accident numerous times, and in fact Usagi even seeks Seiya out. They develop a friendship, and it’s normal and natural for friends to seek each other out. Usagi and the girls actually, literally stalk the Three Lights more than once during the season. 2. “Seiya thinks Usagi is weak because she told Mamoru to take care of her when they left.” This honestly makes no sense to me. It is repeatedly shown that Seiya admires Usagi’s strength, both as Usagi and as Sailor Moon. It is natural to want the people you love to be protected, and that does not mean that you think they’re weak and incapable of protecting themselves. Seiya knew Usagi was capable and strong because she had seen her demonstrate these traits multiple times. Throughout the season, Seiya repeatedly lifts Usagi up with her confidence in her capabilities. This is even before she knows she is Sailor Moon. Let’s not forget that when Galaxia kills all of the Inners, they ask the Starlights to protect Sailor Moon, so saying that Seiya telling Mamoru to take care of her means she thinks she is weak ... that must mean everyone else thinks she is too, right? It’s absurd. 3. “Seiya can’t take ‘no’ for an answer, always hits on her, and is constantly pressuring her into a relationship.” It is true that Seiya repeatedly quips about “having a chance” with Usagi. It’s also true that Usagi repeatedly reminds Seiya that she has a boyfriend. But it isn’t true that Seiya repeatedly attempts to coerce her into a relationship. It also isn’t true that she does it all the time. While she shouldn’t have done it even more than once (when she was unaware of Usagi’s relationship status,) it’s obvious from the context that she isn’t being serious. Seiya repeatedly making quips is an issue, and while those kinds of situations can and often do mean someone is being a “Nice Guy,” a predator, an abuser, etc., we know from everything that we see that it is not the case with Seiya. Let’s take the “date,” for an example: Seiya throws it out there (literally, just time and place and walks off) and Usagi willingly shows up the next day and is even irritated that Seiya is late. Usagi is not forced or coerced into the date; she retains all of the power regarding whether or not she shows up. She would not have gone if she didn’t want to. Actually, let’s look at these instances of Seiya hitting/making a move on Usagi. - In the “date” episode, Usagi thinks that Seiya is going to make a move on her. Some suggest that Usagi thinks she is going to kiss her, but the language, Usagi’s expressions, and her reaction to the truth seem to imply that she thinks Seiya is suggesting something more intimate. - In the episode with the beach monster when Chibi Chibi opens up the door and pushes Seiya over on to Usagi, Usagi is the one who, again, assumes Seiya is up to No Good, despite it being a complete accident and innocent on Seiya’s part. - In the episode where Seiya spends the night at Usagi’s because she’s alone and Seiya very nearly confesses who she is to Usagi while they’re in her bedroom, it is Usagi who believes that Seiya is going to confess to having a crush on her. - Later in that same episode, when they are hiding in the cabinet and Seiya again thinks about confessing her true identity to her, it is Usagi who thinks Seiya is about to suggest something intimate. In fact, throughout the season, it is everyone from Usagi, to the other girls, to single-episode characters, to even Luna who think that Seiya is going to suggest or attempt illicit activities with Usagi, and not Seiya. It is all but explicitly stated that Usagi is attracted to Seiya. Not just because of the implications of her assumptions, but also because she is scolded over it. In fact, Rei tells her that she needs to sort her feelings out. Haruka and Michiru forbid her from seeing Seiya because she has Mamoru. She may not love Seiya the same way, but she is attracted to her and she does love her (and Usagi being attracted to other people is not a new thing.) Let’s look at the softball episode, because it’s ... pretty problematic and people often point to it as being one of the episodes that paint Seiya as some creepy stalker who can’t just take a hint and tells everyone that Usagi is her girlfriend. It is Rei who thinks that Seiya training Usagi in softball is inappropriate (let’s remember that it is Ami who thinks that something illicit is going on with Seiya and Usagi in the bodyguard episode...) because Mamoru is Usagi’s boyfriend, not Seiya. It is Sonoko who insists that Seiya’s “relationship” with Usagi isn’t acceptable, and it is her that places the bet that if Seiya’s team loses, she’s not to associate with Usagi anymore. Seiya agrees because she’s competitive, hates to lose, has confidence in herself and Usagi, and knows that Sonoko is wrong. When Usagi tries to interject about the actual nature of their relationship (that they’re not dating,) it’s the girls who shush her because they’re expecting Seiya’s team to lose and that will give them the opportunity to make Seiya feel better. I want to touch on the “Seiya knows Sonoko is wrong” part. I think what a lot of people don’t think about is that when Sonoko placed this bet and openly stated her disapproval of Seiya spending time with Usagi, Sonoko was attacking Usagi’s worth as a person. She was openly saying that Usagi wasn’t good enough to be hanging out with Seiya in any capacity. Seiya took issue with this because she obviously believes and knows differently. She values Usagi as a person. Who is Sonoko to decide who is and isn’t good enough to spend time with her? Seiya is not approaching the situation with entirely selfish motives, unlike the girls who fed into the Seiya/Usagi romance for the hopeful eventuality of them being able to comfort Seiya after a loss when she’ll be forced to stop hanging out with Usagi. She uses this situation to help bolster Usagi’s confidence in herself. That doesn’t change the fact that the bet is stupid to begin with, but it is what it is. Oh, additionally ... Seiya doesn’t tell the school that she and Usagi are dating. Them dating is an assumption that Seiya simply doesn’t correct. It’s worth noting that if she did correct that assumption, it would feed into Sonoko’s declaration that Usagi isn’t good enough to be with Seiya. 4. “Seiya tried to make the rooftop scene about herself and used it as a way to try to take Mamoru’s place in Usagi’s life.” This whole entire scene is consistently misinterpreted and has all of the context ripped from it, because that is not what that scene is. No, it 100% was not the best time for Seiya to ask that question (and no, it is not “can I take his place?” that she says,) but people tend to forget that Usagi is not the only vulnerable person in this scene and it isn’t just about her. It is Seiya who triggers Usagi’s emotional breakdown on accident, and in these moments she is watching the person she loves crumble into pieces. The rooftop scene is about both of them and the context makes that clear. Up until this point, the only person who knew that Mamoru wasn’t keeping in contact with Usagi was Seiya. None of the girls knew, none of them. Imagine the amount of trust Usagi had to have in Seiya in order to share that incredibly sensitive information with her and with no one else, not even her closest friends. Usagi had told Seiya a whole 13 episodes before this one, and since finding out Seiya tried her best to make Usagi happy and to keep her mind busy. It isn’t until a few episodes after this that everyone including Seiya finds out that Mamoru is dead. So Seiya spends all of this time believing that Mamoru ditched Usagi when he moved overseas and that he’s a horrible boyfriend who obviously doesn’t care about Usagi. This is naturally hurtful to Seiya, who grows to genuinely like and love Usagi through the season. She cares for her and doesn’t want to see her in pain, which is why she does her best to help Usagi feel less alone. There is no point in the season where Seiya’s intentions are to maliciously shove herself into Mamoru’s place in Usagi’s life. She has no idea who Tuxedo Mask is. She had no idea that throwing the red rose - her own personal trademark - was going to trigger such an emotional response from Usagi. So here they both are on this rooftop in the middle of the pouring rain. Usagi’s breaking down over how alone she feels, and Seiya’s suddenly faced with the realization that not only did she cause this breakdown, everything she had been trying to do to help her wasn’t working and she failed again. She couldn’t save her system/planets, 99.9% of her people are literally dead because she wasn’t strong enough to save them, and she and the other two members of her team had no idea where their princess was or even if she was okay until the episode before this one. Immediately after the destruction of everything they knew, the Starlights had to flee to an alien planet with alien people, disguise themselves, and pander to a bunch of complete strangers that salivated over, stalked, and harassed them, all while searching for their princess  and fighting the minions of the person who ctrl+a ctrl+x’ed their home system. She had no time to process any of the unimaginable loss and failure she had suffered through. When people talk about the rooftop scene and about how Seiya “makes it about herself,” this is everything they’re forgetting. When Seiya is asking Usagi if she isn’t good enough, it isn’t Seiya trying to weasel her way in, it’s Seiya both coping with her own numerous losses and trying to remind Usagi that she’s there for her. In the end, Seiya is the one that Usagi credits with being able to get herself through everything she was dealing with.

Part two of the Love Language miniseries!
Once again, I dedicate this to one of my favorite Shinran authors, @meitanteisachi
Part three might take a little while since I'm in my lazy mode. So please forgive me if the next part will be late 🤧
Warning: Probably my longest fic ever. So long that I need to divide into two parts. I kinda got carried away.
-
Receiving Gifts-You feel loved and appreciated when your partner or someone gives you a gift. It doesn't need to expensive, just something sentimental and thoughtful.
She was seven when Ran received her first memorable gift from Shinichi.
She remembered how It had been a month since her mother moved away, turning her life upside down. At a young age, Ran forced herself to be responsible; learning how to cook without burning the food, doing household chores that her father never knew how to do, and taking care of both a child who's too young and a grown man who's too immature and broken to live on his own.
It vastly made a growth and development in her character. Teachers and classmates alike noticed the way she had matured, from the way she handled her emotions—always putting on a smile and being the bigger one in the petty fights— to her mannerisms and gestures that resembled an older sister.
To them, her mother leaving became somewhat a good thing, with her maturity blooming early.
If only that were true.
No one knew that as soon as she opened the door of the empty detective office, Ran would be filled with her mother's presence; Hearing her voice, seeing her face, and even missing her scolding. Instead of saying anything to her father however, she brushes it off, puts on a facade, being a mother, a wife, and a daughter all at the same time to a drunk and emotionally unstable man.
But at the end of each day, entering her room and not crying was impossible. Her eyes watering at the sight of the empty bed that used to be filled with her mothers' scent, all gone. And like the child that she was—that she should be— she would sobbed and whimper silently, until exhausted enough to close her eyes and unaware that there's no one beside her just to sleep.
Ran was sure no one knew or was even remotely aware of her secret. After all, her smile shined and eyes glimmered in school so different from the distraught face she wears each night since last month.
But she had underestimated him.
On the day of her birthday, everyone greeted her with their own set of trinkets and gifts. Most were letters and drawings, filled with gratitude and love through the used of poorly executed writings and simple but meaningful pictures. Ran was happy to received all of them, whether they were small—like a piece of her favorite candy— or expensive and big, such as the dress given to her by Sonoko.
But unlike all her other birthdays, she didn't feel as contented and satisfied. There laid a gnawing feeling inside of her, aware that she'll never have what she truly wished for.
As they walked home from school, Ran expected Shinichi to give her at least some sweets. So, when he invited her to come by his house she agreed with a nod, genuinely having no idea.
So, she stood for a few minutes outside the mansions' gates, reading out some letters to pass time. She became so engrossed at reading that she didn't even notice him go outside until he was finally in front of her. Catching a set of feet just in front, she looked up. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw a fairly large and fluffy inanimate object in Shinichi's hands, holding it out to her.
"Here you go, Happy Birthday, Ran." he greeted, tilting his head on the side behind the cute teddy bear grinning from ear to ear. Instinctively, Ran accepted his gift and brought it close to her chest, feeling it's soft synthetic fur.
She slowly scrutinized it, it's features somewhat reminding her of...
"M-mom?" whispering incredulously, she glanced at Shinichi. Still wearing a smile, he nodded.
"That's right. Even if you don't talk about it, I know you miss your mom. You've been crying a lot too--"
"I wasn't crying!" she denied, but her mask slipped a little when he deadpanned.
"Yes you were," he stated calmly, as if he saw her doing so. She glared.
"How would you know? I never cried in school!"
"I'm sure before we go to school you do. Your eyes were always a little red and puffy when entering the class after all." he argued back. Instead of being embarrassed, Ran found something more important to point out.
"You were watching me?" she questioned, eyes curious. She didn't know why, but the thought of Shinichi watching and observing her made her smile(and a little nervous).
In an instant, gone was the confident and composed childhood friend of hers, image being ruined by his immediate coughing as if he swallowed a huge thing, cheeks flushed a healthy red, and a stuttering mess as he negated her claim.
"B-Barou! Those were just coincidences!!" then he slightly looked away, seemingly afraid to meet her violet orbs. Scratching his still blushing cheeks, he changed the topic.
"W-Well, Happy Birthday. You can use that stuff animal when you feel, you know, lonely." he dazed off, then glanced over her shoulder. As if realizing something significant, his eyes widened.
"It's already sun down! You gotta go home now or Occhan is gonna scold me!"
Ran followed his advice right after. As soon as she arrived home, she found her father in a sober state, and was even the one who tried to cook dinner for the both of them. Eri called later that night, which made Ran happy. She still asked her mother when the woman will come home and Eri would always reply with a vague answer. She didn't pressure her mother anymore, not wanting to ruin both their day.
That night as she entered her room, strangely enough, Ran didn't feel lonely. She also didn't feel the need to exhaust herself, now having a sweet stuff animal to comfort and fill her warmth. She settled on her soft bed, hugging the teddy bear tightly. And for the first time since her mother's moving away, Ran didn't cry.
-
They were thirteen, she recalled, when she received her second most thoughtful gift from him.
"Hey Ran, did you find the kitten?" Ran glanced up, hearing her name from Sonoko. She shook her head as an answer.
"It's still missing. I tried asking around but they said they never saw it." her bestfriend looked at her worriedly, knowing what she was thinking.
A few days ago, her, Sonoko, and Shinichi found a little ball of fur on their way home from school. They all took pity, Ran specially. So, the three teenagers took upon themselves to look after it until just a week ago, it disappeared. They searched everywhere around the area, trying to spot a little black kitten with huge and round green eyes. Unfortunately, they never succeeded.
Seeing Ran's mood depleted, Sonoko patted her back as comfort, grinning.
"Don't worry about it! I'm sure it has found an owner by now." Ran smiled, being reassured but still a bit dissatisfied. She decided to adopt the kitten after all but it was still nowhere to be seen.
To lighten the mood, Sonoko changed the topic to new shops, magazine, and gossips. Since the teacher was late, the Suzuki Heiress was unstoppable.
Rans' attention was grabbed however, when a certain someone entered the classroom. He was yawning, not bothering to hide his sleepiness. Rubbing his blue eyes languidly, she noticed how the dark circles under them became even more pronounced than before. Her eyes also became aware that there were some lines seared into his skin—scratch marks.
As if conscious that someone was watching him, Shinichi turned his head around, meeting weary blue with observing violet. It only lasted for a second, with the former looking away and going straight to his desk.
Shinichi had been acting weird lately. It started a week before, with him telling Ran that he would be late and she can just go ahead without him. True enough, he always came late ever since, which normally rarely happens.
Another thing to note would be his physical state. He looked restless, eyebags so obvious along with the constant yawning and even sometimes sleeping through an entire period. The last part wasn't new, but Ran heeded how easily he fell asleep, unlike back then where he needed to toss and turn his head for a comfortable position.
The last thing to caught her eye would be the little scratch marks. She would've been convinced that it was another case but seeing the scrape from his arms threw her off guard. They were shallow, but it didn't wave off her suspicions any less.
So, Ran decided that after class, she would visit him, whether he liked it or not.
The day went by rough, with Ran not being able to focus thanks to a sleeping classmate who looked far too exhausted for a normal student. Sonoko, looking at her stressed friend, ask her out to eat that sounded too appealing but she had to refused, knowing that if she didn't find out the reason for her best friend's odd behavior, she'll be the one to act weird next.
Knowing Shinichi's detective instinct, Ran knew better than to follow him on the get go and get caught. She waited an hour around the area, before making her way to the Kudo Mansion. The only problem now was how to enter without being seen.
She treaded through the stone path, finding the gate unlock. The middle schooler shook her head, both thankful and a little scared. What could he be so busy about for him to forget closing the gate?
Once Ran reached the front door and checked, that's when the immense feeling of worry kicked in. Shinichi also forgot to close the front door!
'What's happening to him? Is a case stressing him this much? Did something terrible happened? Why isn't he telling me--'
Her thoughts were abruptly stopped when the sound that something metallic fell reached her ears, making her anxiety increased tenfold.
Wasting no time and completely losing her initial target, Ran rushed in like lightning, fear evident in every step.
Upon reaching the kitchen and thoughts of her bestfriend in danger flooding her senses, she barged in.
Only to find the great detective Kudo Shinichi rubbing his head, and a couple of pans and plastic bowls scattered around the tiled flooring.
They gaped at each other, unable to register the current scenario. Ran was broken out of her trance however, when she noticed a light bump growing on the top of his head, which he was rubbing a while ago before he froze.
Previous distress setting in once again, Ran hurried by her childhood friends' side, helping him to stand.
"What happened?" she asked, examining and touching the bump. As if electrified by their contact, he flinched and backed away slightly, eyes a bit hazy.
"R-Ran, what are you doing here?" he seemed more concern of her presence than his own well being which made her glare.
"You've been acting weird this past week!" she accused as he treaded away from her, a bit too cautious. She took note of how his left hand slid behind him, fully intending to hide something away from her sight.
"Weird what, me? Barou, I've been perfectly normal. You're just overacting." the response didn't sound so convincing when he was literally sweating and avoiding her scrutiny.
"Yeah, then why were you always late this week?" the interrogation began.
"I was busy with a case Megure-keibu presented me, that's why." gaining his composure, Shinichi answered in a confident manner but that didn't drop any of her suspicions.
"Then what about you being constantly tired these days?" Ran pressed on, ambulating near her suspect. he kept his ground, so sure she was the one who was weird, not him.
"The case was so hard that I couldn't find time to sleep." he casually said, looking bored and done with the questioning.
She kept on walking towards slowly and when she was finally in front of him, she smiled innocently.
"Okay then, I have one last question to ask," he smiled, thinking he won. Then, feigning obliviousness, he consented.
"Fire away."
With those words as her signal, Ran forcefully yanked his left arm that he had been so carefully shielding and him having no time to react, she succeeded, revealing the scratch marks as her last piece of evidence and a.... kitten!?
Silence ensued. Until a mewl came out fromm the little ball of fur. Ran examined the little thing, coming to her conclusion.
"Please don't tell me this was the little kitten that's been missing since last week." she quietly pleaded for him to deny, but all he offered was a gulp and a weary nod.
Anger and bewilderment filled Ran, as she shook her head as an attempt to calm, but seeing the kitten that she had been desperately looking for, for the past few weeks made her burst.
"Why didn't you tell me you had the cat!? You knew that I was looking all over the neighborhood! I even told you I was going to take care of it--"
"That's exactly why I took it!" he interrupted, his excuse perplexing her thoughts even more than before.
"What?" he sighed and put the little kitten down gently, moving to the counter and sitting on one of the tools.
"Well, remember when you first tried to take it home? It was really aggressive, wasn't it?"
She did remember her hand getting scratch and almost bitten when she endeavored to adopt it. So, she gave a nod.
"Well, knowing what you were planning to do, I decided to take it to a friend of mom's who happened to be a vet and get it checked just to make sure. She said it was fine but it seemed a bit violent to humans so she advised me to take care of it so that it will get used to the environment. Knowing you, you would've been dumb enough to just take it without any examination and might get yourself really injured." she tried to refute his last statement but decided against it, knowing he was probably right.
But there was one thing that didn't made sense. "Then why didn't you tell me about it? If I had known I wouldn't have wasted my time, you know." hearing her question made him clearly uncomfortable, eyes now travelling anywhere but hers and cheeks tainted a light pink. They kept quiet, him contemplating while Ran patiently waited.
Knowing his loss, the detective whispered but she still heard it. "I was planning to give it to you next week. I just wanted it to be a surprise."
For some really unexplainable reason, Ran felt her heart beating faster than normal that she might die, face heating up, and even having a stampeding elephant on the pit of her stomach.
"Shinichi..." she uttered, not knowing what to say. Still looking the other way, he misinterpreted her calling as scolding.
"I know, I know. I shouldn't have done that. I should've told you properly and you wouldn't have to put so much effort into finding--"
His next lines were suddenly gone when she wordlessly went in front of his sitting figure and patted his hair softly, just like petting a feline. He stammered and tried to speak but found himself to be voiceless by her next words.
"Thank you, I really appreciate it..." she wanted to say more but was being suffocated by the swarming butterflies in her stomach, not allowing her to do so.
"You better be..." he mused, trying to lighten the mood and to calm his racing heart. As if by magic, he felt a sudden urge to close his eyes and lean on her posture, loving the way she stroke his hair so gently. And so he did.
Ran was taken aback by the unforeseen intimacy but didn't complain. They stayed like that for a few minutes, until she felt almost all of his weight on her, coupled with his heavy breathing that she concluded he fell asleep.
Slowly, she moved him to the sofa of the living room, all the while trying to not burst at the feeling of his breath on her neck. Succeeding, she grabbed a pillow and a blanket from his room, finally setting him down on the couch.
Ran couldn't help but feel guilty, finally figuring out that she was the reason of all his strange behavior all along. It explained his worn out expression throughout the entire week, having to take care of an aggressive kitten without having any prior experience must be exhausting, and it showed through his sleepless nights and lack of energy at everything in class.
Then, her eyes travelled to the little scratches and wounds all over his arms. They were nothing serious, but they must have at least sting. Wanting to at least alleviate the pain, Ran brought the first aid kid from his room and tenderly tended to all of the gashes and marks, and him not even flinching one bit despite being supposedly a heavy sleeper, became proof of how much time and effort he put for her surprise.
Ran went home that day, carrying his gift with her. She knew that he was supposedly giving this next week, but the teenager was pretty sure that Shinichi wouldn't be able to handle another week of torture like that. So, she left a note to make sure he didn't worry.
Years passes after that, but Ran would never forget the kitten he gave her, and the inexplicable giddy feeling with it. Sonoko would remind her how happy she was that she couldn't physically stop smiling for a while that it weirded many out but personally for Ran, it was worth it.

Episode 84: Ski Lodge Murder Case (Part 1)
Ran, Sonoko, and Conan go skiing, and meet two elementary school teachers: Suave and Big Nose, who pretend to be ski instructors, and call them kittens. Then they are invited to their vacation cabin death villa in the middle of a snow storm. They are stranded there. They’re all settling in for a fun evening, when suddenly the doorbell rings, and Greasy-Haired Zombie is on the doorstep, who was a reporter from three years ago. After everyone freaks out about “that incident,” he says, “I’ll just make myself warm here,” and kills the mood. Ran and Conan go to help one of the teachers with dinner, but there are two pots boiling over on the stove, unattended. Then they are shockingly interrupted by a scream, because their teacher and Sonoko were attacked in one of the upstairs bedrooms. They had pink lipstick on their hands, spelling “mi” and “na” which the zombie reporter deduces obviously means, “minagoroshi – death comes to all.” Conan pursues the criminal by jumping out the window, to follow his footprints. It might be prudent to mention now that Sonoko, Ran, and Conan, are all wearing short shorts, yet they have no trouble running around outside the house in a blizzard. Later, the doorbell rings again, and they find another zombie. This one is actually dead. Although he’s in full winter gear, he has frozen stiff, and he has pink lipstick too, the character “ko.” Suave, not so suave anymore, runs up to his room, assuming he’s going to be next, and tells everyone to shut up and go away. Ran catches Conan talking to Dr. Agasa on his earring phone, hears the name Shinichi, but is distracted by a scream from upstairs, when someone tried to bring Suave coffee.
Best Quotes:
Sonoko: (While enjoying a beautiful day at the ski slopes, with really energetic music, that suddenly cuts to nostalgic Detective Conan theme music) “I’ve also lived my life to its fullest for 17 years, but nothing nice has ever happened to me!”

(Suave swoops in on his skiis) “Yo! Cute little kittens.”

^THESE two are Elementary School teachers?.....and they’re hitting on.....high school students...........................................?
Very questionable. Would not trust them with children of any age. Especially not the one on the right.

I'd like to know your opinion about why Shinichi falls in love with Ran in their first meeting in the kindergarten. I ask you because many people criticize this scene since they find it unrealistic (they were only 4 years old) and superficial (since he hardly knew her).
You’re IN LUCK because that episode was literally just on tv here half an hour ago, so it’s fresh in my mind and I am here with more Thoughts™
First of all, just to know where we all stand and get it out of the way, that’s one of my favorite episodes/files ever. I really thought Aoyama would never tell us exactly how they met, and then he graced us with those wonderful chapters and I wept tears of absolute joy. So it’s going to be very hard for me to hate on it.
(Which means I basically won’t. But anyway.)
I understand why some people say that they find it unrealistic because they don’t act like 3 and 4-year-old kids. But that’s only the case with Shinichi, isn’t it? Sonoko and Ran and even the lil asshole kids bullying Ran all act their age. And if you mean to tell me 4-year-olds cannot bully other kids, boy have I got some first person experiences to share with you.
Anyway back to the point. Shinichi is more mature and distant and cold, sure, and he’s too smart for his age. But then again, isn’t that the whole premise of Shinichi’s character? Isn’t he too smart for a seventeen year old teenager anyway?
Why have we never, as a fandom, really considered the possibility that Shinichi may be legitimately intellectually gifted?
Because it very well could be. We know he’s clever and intelligent and has a fantastic memory and great deductive abilities. If he were gifted, he still wouldn’t act his age at 4, because some gifted kids are often much more mature than the rest (and you can trust me on this, I once extensively researched and talked to gifted kids.)
As for the fact that Shinichi fell in love with her at 4, I don’t think it’s exactly that. Listen, I’m the first who likes to boast about how it was love at first sight and whatnot, but, really, I don’t think it was. I think something changed in Shinichi for sure when he met Ran, probably --and as I’ve said incalculable times before-- because she was the first kid to ever be nice to him (cause y’all know how I’m 99% sure Shinichi was bullied before he met Ran). So it was like a switch flicked in his head and he realized people could be good and sweet and kind and accept him for who he was, and that developed as a crush on her. Was it love? I don’t know, really, it could be. Little kids are able to feel love in a much more intense way than some adults, so who’s to say?
Superficial? I mean, I guess they kinda have a point, but, again, it’s not like he was as in love as he is now. Still, may I remind you, he feels something strong enough to fight that douchebag teacher with intensity until someone --Yusaku, thank God-- actually listens to him. And he does all of that just to protect Ran. So, at four, after she’s smiled at him and demonstrated that kids can actually be nice, Shinichi is willing to risk everything just to save her. He is willing to set the world on fire to save her. If that seems superficial to you, alright, you win this round.
Again, I do think those first feelings resemble more a crush and an unlikely and special connection rather than love. It’s only as he grows older that those feelings mature and become stronger and deeper, and eventually he realizes it’s love. We don’t exactly know when he realizes it, but it’s way before he gets shrunk and even way before New York, and if Movie 7 is anything to go by --movies are canon in my head, don’t make me say this again-- then it was probably in their first years at Middle School, if not sooner.
But what’s so special to me about that file is that --and again, I’m sorry you have to read me say this again-- it perfectly sets what the ShinRan relationship is like: Shinichi, protecting Ran at all costs and low-key doing things to help her out without taking the credit for it, and Ran, seeing right through his façade always and within seconds of taking a look at him, and loving him and accepting him regardless of his flaws.
And if that’s not what y’all take away from that file/episode, I’m sorry your life is so sad.

Storytime:
So, the one and only time I have been involved in LARPing (Live Action Role Play) was when I was in middle school, around 6th-7th grade. The two girls I was hanging out with were both high-fantasy obsessed girls, aware of DnD and Lord of the Rings and furries and that sort of thing. They knew what they were getting into.
I did not.
I had never heard of LARPing, and when told to play a character I liked, the only context I had in my head was Detective Conan. Sonoko Suzuki was my favorite character. Naturally, I played her. So imagine this dumbass eleven-year-old running around imitating a rich high society girl while the other two kids are running around being sorcerers casting magic spells on themselves (and me). Suffice to say, the genre mismatch remains unparalleled in my collection of mortifying “misread the situation” memories.*
*The other equally embarrassing example being when I turned in a 3+ page essay complete with illustrations attempting to explain “a paradox” in terms of a Doctor Who time travel paradox. My philosophy teacher was (probably) rightfully concerned.

Hiya! If you're still interested in taking requests, I'd love to see more Ran-centric pieces in the world. She seems to get pushed to the sidelines in a lot of cases, so it'd be lovely to read something from her perspective.
I actually have the first chapter to a ShinRan fic. It’s a university-au, and it’s from Ran’s POV, so I hope this counts? If it doesn’t, lemme know. xD
Summary: Despite herself, Ran finds herself curious about the criminology student she always notices running across campus. ShinRan. University AU.
“Youhaving fun, Ran?”
Abovethe noise, old music from the 2000s blasting through far too big speakers,Sonoko’s voice reaches Ran’s ears. She offers a smile, lifts her cup of dietcoke and offers a small nod.
It’s nother most enjoyable task, going to parties and clubbing, but she doesn’t hateit. Maybe she’d enjoy it more if everyone else were sober, not making a messout of themselves, but then it would lose all university charm.
Orrather, that’s what Sonoko says.
“Yeah,”Ran says in response, “It’s not half bad.”
Sonoko’sforehead wrinkles into a frown as she asks, “You mean it’s only half good?”
“Ohhush,” Ran says, sipping from her plastic cup. It would make her feel more likeshe’s stepped out of an American movie if the cup were red, if there were morethan dancing and drinking games immersed into the room. But there isn’t, andRan’s only a little disappointed. “You know what I mean.”
“Sure, sure,” Sonoko says, and she continues to dance. Sonoko isn’t a bad dancer, per say, but she’s had alittle drink and her usual grace is squandered by alcohol. “Dance with me Ran.”
Ranisn’t much of a dancer, but Sonoko grabs her hands and suddenly her cup issomething to be balanced as they sway together, swinging their hands left andright in time with the music.
It’s notdancing as much as it’s the jerking of their limbs, but it makes Ran smile andyeah, this party isn’t half bad.
-
Theyhead back to their dorm at around one a.m., not too late by Ran’s standards, but not too early for Sonoko’s. Sonoko mutters something under her breath butRan barely hears her.
The walkisn’t far. They only need to walk from one end of campus to the other end, butsomehow, with the cold biting at their heels, the walk takes longer than itusually does.
It’sprobably not helping that Ran is helping Sonoko stay up – not that her best friendis that drunk. But a tipsy Sonoko, isa clingy Sonoko, a hug-loving Sonoko.
“Let’swalk faster,” Sonoko says, and she shivers, realises just how cold it is. Thegrip on Ran’s arm tightens, as if this will help. “I’m freezing, Ran.”
“So amI,” Ran says.
And somust everyone else outside of the dorms, because seconds pass and then Ran canhear heavy footsteps beside her, running. Out of the corner of her eye, shespots a man, coat fluttering around him, one glove on, the other off, racingacross the universities’ crossroads in front of her.
“Ithought we were over this,” he hisses to himself, as he races, “but now I’m bothcold, and an idiot.”
Ranalmost wants to talk to him, but there’s something in his expression that sayshe’ll only be more stressed by the conversation. Plus, he looks pale enough tobe freezing.
“Someonelooks unhappy,” Sonoko croons. She readjusts her headband and offers Ran asmile. “Whenever I see bits of peoples lives like this, I always want to knowwhat’s happened.”
Ofcourse, she does. Sonoko is an amazing best friend, but even Ran needs to admitthat she’s extremely nosey. To the point where sometimes, Ran thinks it’s morea hindrance than a good thing.
“Iknow,” Ran says. After a small pause, “I hope he’s alright.”
Sonokoshrugs as if to say, ‘we’ll never know’.
“Let’sget back,” Ran says, “before we freeze.”
-
Shedoesn’t expect to see him again, the man who’d been running so late at night, frustrated, but it’s almost as if now that she’s seen him, he’s popping upeverywhere. Ran concludes that he’d always been there, running around campusbut that she’d never been looking, has simply never noticed.
Sheisn’t sure.
All sheknows for certain is that this guy worries her. Running around as much as hedoes, stressing under his breath makes her concerned that he’s simply toostressed. After the first few times, Ran makes it a task during her day to seeif she can spot him.
And mostdays, she does. In the corner of her eye, he’ll pop up and she’ll turn, spotting him, feeling both worried for all the stress he carries on hisshoulders, and nervous that someone is going to point out that she’s searchingfor him like he’s the main character of the ‘where’s wally’ books.
Shecarries her concern with her, and it lingers, growing every time she sees himrush past with pursed lips or with brows knitted together in a frown. Ran justwants to grab him by the shoulders, tell him to slow down and simply ask ifhe’s okay.
Everytime she feels like she can simply… conjure up some confidence to ask if he’sokay however, he’s always in the middle of some sort of disappearing act. Hernervousness to ask if he’s alright is nothing against his haste.
So, Randoesn’t ask.
(Even ifshe does start daydreaming about what it would be like to just tell him to slow down.)
-
Sometimes,Ran thinks maybe she cares a little too much.
This isa stranger, after all. Someone who’s life she has no permission to ask after. It doesn’t change the fact that she cares though, whether she should or not.Ran’s always been weird in that respect – has always left herself open, wallsdown, more vulnerable and capable of feeling an overwhelming amount at onetime.
Still,it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have any feelings about the situation, aboutwanting to leave a random stranger less stressed.
Maybeit’s because she has high empathy, or maybe she’s just a weirdo like so many of her classmates back in high school hadclaimed but it doesn’t matter. Because there’s nothing she can change about thesituation.
It is,what it is.
-
“Excuseme,” She says, finally, when she spots him in the student union shop. She takesadvantage of the fact that they’re both in the same queue, hiding temporarilyfrom the rain. It’s the first time she’s seen him stand in one place for ashort time.
He turnsever so slightly at the sound of her voice, and she doesn’t want to invade hispersonal space, so she says, “I’m sorry, excuse me?” to get his attention, allthe while feeling like her own awkwardness is a pit in her stomach, ready to makeher squirm and question every word she says.
It’s thefirst time she’s really seen his face, and wow – he makes eye contact with her,and his eyes are a vibrant blue, brighter than any he’s seen before. It’senough to temporarily make her lose focus, but then, Ran steels herself, continues before he decides to turn back around.
“I’msorry,” she says, “It’s just – well, I’ve seen you rushing around campus abunch of times now and you always seem… taxed, like the stress is getting toyou – I mean– uh–”
Shereceives a raised eyebrow. It’s all Ran needs to realise that she’s rambling, that she needs to get to the point before she runs out of words to say.
“Iguess, I’ve just been wanting to ask if – well – you’re okay?”
Hisexpression shifts. For a moment, he’d been staring almost absently at her, asshe’d spoken, but as Ran comes to a finish, his lips tug upwards, quirking intoa small smile. Soft, gentle and almost, dare Ran say, appreciative.
“Hah,”he starts, and his voice is deeper that she’d expected, as if he’s recoveringfrom a cough. It’s almost… rough. “I didn’t realise that people noticed all myrunning around.”
A pause,and then he continues:
“Butyeah,” his lips quirk more, a wider smile, lighting up his face, “I’m okay.Probably a little overworked, but who here studying isn’t?”
Ran letsherself grin. It’s relief that moulds her muscles into place. The worry that’sbeen building in her chest with every spotting of him quickly eases, thepressure alleviating to a point where she feels like she can breathe properlyagain.
It’sdefinitely weird that she cares this much, Ran just knows it is.
“Ah,”she says, nodding her head. “That’s good, I’m glad that you’re good.”
And sheis – she shouldn’t be because, once again, she reminds herself that this is astranger, but she is.
There’sa light in his eyes, a sort of glimmer that reflects against his pupils, andRan is temporarily blinded by it. She’s certain there’s mischievousness hidingbehind that light, hidden and only ever brought out on those who he’s closestto.
Ranwonders what mischief he gets up to. Whether he even has the time to, if he’s overworked.
“What’syour name?” He asks, and Ran offers her name up, not thinking twice about it.She lives on a university campus, after all, she’s used to meeting new peopleconstantly, sharing names and conversation simply because they can.
Randomconversations on a university campus aren’t so scary, not to Ran. She’s not themost social person, but she’s not overly shy, she doesn’t think.
“I’mShinichi,” he says. He doesn’t offer a surname, which means that until Ran canfind out his surname, she’s going to be stuck calling him by a less formalhonorific. Perhaps that’s a plan he constantly has in action.
Eitherway, she doesn’t have the time to ask after his family name, because he turns, glances at the cashier and offers a small grin.
“That’sme, it seems,” Shinichi says, “I guess I’ll see you around on campus.Hopefully.”
“Yeah,”Ran says, and offers a small snort. It’s unladylike, not dignified in theslightest, but Ran doesn’t care. “With the amount you run around the campus, there’s no doubt that I’ll see you somewhere.”
Hesmirks, and then, once again, seems to disappear as if he’s in some sort ofrush.
-
“Oh, Mouri-san, hey!”
Ranblinks as she registers the words, tears her gaze away from the street, whereshe’s been stood for minutes, waiting, watching out for the shuttle bus thatwill take her from the university’s smaller campus back to the main campus.
For amoment, she barely registers the voice – she has, after all, only heard it onone occasion – but then her mind fills in the blank, and she realises that itis Shinichi, jogging up from the university buildings to the bus stop.
He liftshis hand up in a small wave.
Ranwaves back, glad to see that his shoulders seem less tense this time. It’s thefirst time she’s seeing him moderately stress-free. “Shinichi-san, hey! Youstudy on this campus?”
He dipshis head into a half-nod, stopping beside her. “Both actually. I’m a doublemajor, one subject brings me here. It’s uh – pretty inconvenient some days, actually.”
Thatmakes sense, Ran supposes. University time tables aren’t always the best atsetting classes up. She’s heard complaints of the physics students in the past, saying that they’d had one lecture at the campus’ planetarium, twenty minutesaway, booked in immediate succession to their astrophysics lecture.
It makessense that this could be a reason for stress, Ran can’t imagine that it’s veryeasy to rush between two various campus’. She’s almost glad that she remainsjust on the one.
“Howabout you?” Shinichi asks, pushing his hands into his pockets. “You study onthis campus too?”
Ranlifts up the novel she’s holding – Mishima Yukio’s ‘The Temple of the Golden Pavilon’ – and offers a small shrug.“Yeah, I’m a Japanese literature major. Minor in English. We can’t all jumpbetween two campus’.”
She’sexcluding, of course, the fact that all of the student dormitories are centredon the main campus, just a ten-minute walk from the main lecture halls. Shinichinods his head, and is silent for a second, as if taking the information, memorising it.
Then, inperfect English, “Now I’ve got someone I can have secret conversations with.”
Ranflushes. Sonoko had said that in the past, when they’d decided to take Englishtogether – except, Sonoko is more experienced, has grown up multilingual, dueto her parent’s business, and had found herself in the advanced classes.
“I’m notthat good,” Ran responds back, although it does feel nice to practice withsomeone outside of her classes. She falls back into regular Japanese, asks,“you take the class too?”
Shinichishakes his head. There’s a faint grin on his face, lips lifting up in a show ofamusement, as if he’s waiting for her to come up with some sort of theory. Ranraises an eyebrow, decides she’ll do no such thing and simply asks, “then how?”
If he’sdisappointed by the lack of deducing prowess, he doesn’t let it show. He simpleshrugs a shoulder and says, “my parents moved us abroad to the U.S. at thestart of middle school. It was necessary to get by, I guess.”
Rancan’t even imagine moving houses. She can’t imagine leaving behind her the homethat doubles as her father’s detective agency, can’t imagine what it would belike to leave Beika. Sure, she’s moved into the university dorms, halfwayacross Tokyo, but that’s different, she can always go home.
Movingto another town sounds like it’d bring too much anxiety. Moving to anothercountry? Another continent?
“Wow,”Ran mutters, “that’s terrifying.”
Hecontinues, mentioning about how he’d moved back to Japan in his final year ofhigh school, finishing his classes and trying to reintegrate himself with theJapanese culture. Maybe another time, she’ll ask him about the differences, culturally, but now doesn’t seem appropriate.
Hefinishes off his short explanation with a small huff. Ran isn’t sure whetherhe’s finally acknowledging her commentary, or whether he’s irritated himself bybringing it up, but either way, he’s smile tightens as if he doesn’t want tokeep talking about it.
SinceRan prides herself on being a good person, she decides that it’s for the bestthat she moves the conversation along, choosing a new subject. And speaking of subjects–
“So,”she starts, “if you don’t study English, then what do you study?”
He sendsher a grateful smile. “Criminology and forensic science. It’s all veryinteresting when the lecturers aren’t sending you on a wild chase from one campusto another.”
Rantakes a moment to empathise with having to chase around lectures, and then, lets out a very dignified huff of frustration. Criminology. It’s not something she’s ever enjoyed, and sincemaking her way to university, the dislike has only grown.
Orrather, maybe she has a bigger issue with criminologists.
Thedislike had bloomed last year, during her first semester in the university whenshe’d found herself thrown rather inexplicitly into a fling with a third-yearcriminologist. She’d been thrown more statistics on murder than she hadcompliments of the romantic kind, and she’d hardly been wooed, only likened to the various statistics he’d memorised.
Andthen, when he’d learned that her father ran his own detective… well, that hadopened a whole different can of worms that Ran doesn’t want to start on.
Shinichi’slips twist up at the sound of her disappointment. Ran blinks away confusion –past experiences have always bred some sort of irritation when she’d showncontempt at the subject.
“Not afan?”
Ran canquite honestly admit that no, she is not a fan.
Part ofher is relieved when Shinichi simply nods, doesn’t take her refusal to offense.
“That’llbe my task then,” he says finally, making her take the entire thought back. Shefeels a sigh rise in her throat but doesn’t breathe it out. Out of the cornerof her eyes, she can see the shuttle bus turning the corner, approaching thestop. There’s a shuffling around them, disgruntled students ready to board thebus. “I’ll make you reconsider.”
“I’m notparticularly interested in crime rates and statistics,” she says, the wordsbland. Then, because she doesn’t want to throw him off too much, make him thinkshe’s entirely horrible, she adds, “What would I even get out of this?”
Shinichipauses. He lifts his fingers up to his chin, holds them in a position thatseems almost like a pose but isn’t, somehow,as he thinks. His eyes are bright when he focuses on her. “I’ll get back to youon that.”
Ohgreat.
Studentsbustle around them – some heading off the bus, bumping into Ran and forcing herto not get caught up in the crowd, others heading onto it – and Ran doesn’teven have time to offer him a suave response, because he’s gone, hiddensomewhere on the bus.
Ranboards too, but even as she cranes her neck around, searching for his face, shecan’t see him. They’ve been effectively split apart by the other students, andRan’s too squished against others to see much at all.
Which isa shame, because she almost wishes she had taunted Shinichi a little bit, withhis task.
‘Have fun trying,’ she thinks.

Note
You have been offered an exorbitant sum of money to (somehow) remake Detective Conan as a mecha series. What Do You Do?
Firstof all, I would take that money.
Theadaptation would be a compressed one, because in general mecha shows do not runfor quite as long as Detective Conan. I would be focusing on including thecast, the most important themes, and the most enjoyable tropes from theoriginal show.
This post is a monster so I’m adding a readmore.
Iactually thought about this over the course of the week, and I think I have aworkable concept. The setting is Tokyo circa 30XX A.D., and most people haveone or more robots, which are not sentient, but can be controlled via neuraluplink technology. Robots are registered to individual users, so in an idealsituation, everyone is only using their own robots. But the truth is that it’srelatively easy to find and access methods of briefly taking control of a robotthat doesn’t belong to you– these methods are how people loan out theirtechnology and they also get used for pranks pretty frequently. Of course, commandeering a robot is also the most common method of committing crimes. After all, why bother committing a crime in person when you can use a metal exoskeletonwith no fingerprints and inhuman strength?
Withmost crime being carried out via robots, most crime-fighting is carried out thesame way. Police officers and detectives still exist, but they’ve largely beensupplanted by a robot-piloting Robot Crimes Department (RCD) in charge ofintervening in robot crimes when they happen, and a squad of computer andneural uplink experts tasked with tracking the digital aspects of the crimes. The police come to the crime scene last, and no one really expects them to domuch.
Shinichiand Ran were in training for the RCD together until the day Shinichi ran off atthe amusement park. Being a child in this setting presents differentchallenges. Technically, he still has access to neural uplink technology, butit hasn’t been tested on children of his physical age, and he generallyexperiences adverse physical symptoms (exhaustion, dizziness, pain) if he usesit for an extended period of time. Additionally, he still has difficultygetting most people to take them seriously.
Exceptfor the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, which is underfunded, floundering, and will at this point take help from anyone, including a small, bored geniuswho is definitely not a normal child. Thus begins Shinichi’s apprenticeship inold-fashioned crime solving. Or, at least, somewhat old-fashioned crimesolving, since the crimes are still being committed using robots.
TheTokyo Metropolitan Police Department is staffed by canon’s Division 1 and a fewother canon cops. Their personalities are also similar, although the fact thattheir skills and contributions are constantly disrespected by the RCD has madeall of them a little bit pricklier, in particular Satou and Megure. Kuroda andMatsumoto are both members of the RCD. Naeko Miike and Yumi Miyamoto both workon the technology support division associated with the RCD.
Ranis an RCD trainee who specializes in karate. Since I am adapting, I am makingthe rules, and Ran knows. She finds out early on, during the adaptation of oneof the canonical suspicion arcs, and the tension in their relationship switchesfrom the canonical reasons to tension over the fact that the two of them wereclose to possibly moving forward into some sort of romance when Shinichi gothimself de-aged, and now things are back to being awkward and unspoken.
Ratherthan being a veteran police officer, Kogoro is an ex-member of the RCD who usedto work closely with Megure. His abrupt departure signaled a downturn in howthe MPD was treated by the RCD and Megure has never really forgiven him.
Mostof Ran and Shinichi’s classmates aren’t named characters, but Hakuba Saguru is attendinganother RCD training program in Ekoda. Hondou Eisuke will eventually transfer in.
Sonokowent to middle school with Ran, but currently attends a prestigious high schoolalong with Kuroba Kaito. She meets up with Ran after school and on weekends.
TheDetective Boys are students at Conan’s school who also start hanging out aroundthe MPD.
Haibarais basically the same as canon, but she also knows a fair amount about neuraluplinks and can provide computer support when necessary.
Agasais responsible for building several different custom mecha for Shinichi, all ofthem tailored to different situations that he might encounter as Conan during acrime.
HattoriHeiji is training for the Osaka equivalent of the RCD.
TheBlack Organization… Honestly, I don’t feel like I have to make a lot of changesthere. We don’t really know what they want in canon, other than to do crimes, and in this setting, they would still want to do crimes, just using differentmethods. Some of their tech would probably be different – like, Gin wouldprobably be a really great pilot with a custom gunner unit instead of a sniper, and Vermouth would use things like holographic masks in her disguises– butthey would basically be the same characters.
WhatI would really want to change is, starting a little bit before Eisuke’s introductionin the timeline, I would wrap up whatever season the show was on, give the nextseason a nifty subtitle, and do everything from the Clash of Red and Black tothe Scarlet Arc primarily from the perspective of the FBI. Imagine Raiha Passwith mechs instead of cars. Imagine the Scarlet Arc version of Raiha pass withmechs instead of cars! It would be a really good way to further establish theworldbuilding by showing the FBI characters, who are older and have moreexperience with using robots as weapons. As the season(s) progressed, thisfocus would expand to Masumi and Amuro as well, further expanding the audience’sview beyond Conan’s limited perspective. It would also be a way to move theplot forward at a bit of a faster clip.
Akaiis the ace pilot (naturally), but Jodie pilots too and Camel’s better atmaneuvering (while Akai’s better overall in a fight). Hidemi’s a decent pilotbut a better infiltrator. Amuro is also an ace pilot because he’s Amuro.Masumi probably joins the RCD training program.
Someof the really notable cases from that period of time that have no connection tothe FBI characters could also be included as OVAs. (If I could get the budgetfor KID OVAs featuring him stealing stuff with his dad’s decade-old custom mech,I’d do it.)
Afterthose seasons focused on the FBI/the general spy shenanigans end, the perspective can return to Conan, (probably with a newsubtitle after the title) and show the effect of the accelerating plot on him,his allies, and the city in general. Depending on when I hypotheticallyreceived this money and what Gosho’s plans are, this arc might carry us up tothe end of the series, or I might get to write my own ending.
Pleasenote that if I get to write my own ending for this kind of DC adaptation, itwill involve Shinichi fighting half of an epic robot battle over a piece ofdefining evidence as Conan, doing himself permanent injury, and then getting atemporary antidote just in time to make it out with the evidence while all ofhis more-skilled friends cover his retreat. The last episode would be about everyone’s lives afterward and would be decidedly bittersweet.
Asmuch as I’d love a Real War, Gundam-style series with Conan characters in it,it wouldn’t be anything like an adaptation. This at least preserves the mysteryelements while adding mecha elements. In practice, it’s probably more similarto Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex than anything. But I still like theconcept.
(drabblesmay eventually happen in this ‘verse)

Nogi Wakaba is a Hero: 1/2
Tumblr media
that's a familiar looking face. sister or ancestor? sister or ancestor?
Tumblr media
that's a pretty karinish face there
Tumblr media
Second hero diary? What was the first?
>Nogi Sonoko joined the Sanshu Middle School Hero Club.
Starting in the present, I see.
>The Nogi Household's rose bath was like a hot spring.
ahh, wait, that illustration is for this scene isn't it yeah, now I see the black eyes instead of purple
>"That's a cute reaction~ I'm sure the readers would love a character like you~ my creative urges are rising~"
sononononono, don't break the fourth wall
unless you're making fanficion of your friends like fiw twilight, in which case I implore you to reconsider.
>"Yeah, that combination does sound like it could work. So next, how about Nogi?"
do not give sonoka a position of authority outside of combat. it will not end well.
>But yeah, right now, I think that out of all four candidates, I'd recommend Karin as club president. It'll probably be hard for her, but she is the 'perfect hero' after all, so I'm sure she can manage somehow."
ah right karin's more mellowed out now.
>"Okay, I'll read your fortune! ...Okay, I've got the results. This looks like it'll be a good romance!"
show me how you fucked up the tarot itsuki. I won't get too mad.
>"Well~ I'm not sure what I like exactly, but someone who's diligent and takes good care of others would be lovely~. It'd be even more fun if they were way too serious and got reckless from time to time, huh~"
sonogo you're just describing togou
>I wanted some material for my novels, so I asked for some history books to sent in from my family house's archive, and they sent me a huuuumongous amount of them.
HISTORY BOOKS GOTTEM
>"Books that escaped censorship... Those exist?"
fffucking taisha
burnin books too
>It was the same title as the diary Sonoko had recorded when she was worshiped, the Hero Diary.
ahhh so hero diaries are what the taisha make heroes write after they've reached their expiration dates
>It says the diary began to be recorded in July 2015.
so the treepocalypse happened in Next Sunday AD.
>"Nogi... Wakaba... Is she my ancestor~? If she wrote this diary, then does that mean my ancestor was a hero?"
caaaallllled iiiiiiit
Tumblr media
y'alright there yuuna
(Prologue: End)
Tumblr media
apocalypse magical girls from the far off future of 2018
Tumblr media
what the fuck yuuna's is yuuna a time traveller a reincarnatee a cryogenically frozen supersoldier from the distant past
or is this just a coincidence
>Nogi Wakaba, a fifth grader at the time
>a fifth grader at the time
>fifth grader at the time
>fifth grader
are you fucking kidding me
that was a joke
so nogi wakaba is basically blond sumi right
Tumblr media
why do these ten year olds have boobs
>One of the star-like objects fell onto the roof of the kagura-den. It was definitely not a bird at all. Its entire body was an almost unnatural white, its size far more gigantic than a human, with an ominous mouth-like organ.
and here's the vertices
>On unsteady feet, Hinata stood up. A strange light imbued her eyes and hex-like words leaked from her mouth.
ahh hinata's got the old possession style sayakafication fairies
I see they're taking the opportunity to do what they can't show on television.
>When she snapped back to her senses, Wakaba was standing up with that very sword in hand. She could've sworn the blade was rusted, but before she  had realised it, the blade was tinged with a vibrant, almost living brilliance.
we sure this is still the magical girl genre? this is giving me Eternity Sword vibes more than anything
>Some changed into a form like the edge of a section of body tissue, stiffening and rising up. (...They're... evolving...?)
that's not how evolution works.
>Three years later-- Nogi Wakaba was now a second year in middle school.
not expecting a time skip of all things. I'll be honest, I was enjoying the hellhole thing.
>Uesato Hinata is a Miko, one who hears divine voices.
miko, huh? interesting.
chapter 1 end.
Tumblr media
the fuck is a doi
>After the invasion, a special tree by the name of "Shinju" appeared in Shikoku, and a giant wall made of plant tissue surrounded the island. It is said that the Shinju was the incarnation of the local gods, and the wall was a barrier it put up to stop the Vertex.
"appeared", "it was said". hm, hm, hm~♪
>"Uranophobia."
pff, uranus. but apparently it's "fear of heaven"
>Although it said "hearing the voice of the gods," it was not through common speech, but rather in the form of symbols and suggestive hints that instructions were transmitted to her.
symbols and suggestive hints, huh... so basically it's a horoscope.
>Only the purest of girls
"purest of girls"? what the hell does that even mean in this case
> are able to come in contact with the gods who detest impurity.
oh, the gods are fucking Lunarians.
>An area of the southeastern part of Lake Suwa in Nagano was, like Shikoku, also protected by a barrier where people could live.
...Another barrier? A second tree, or???
noodle discourse
>It let her feel safe knowing there was a friend out there fighting as well.
she's gon die isn't she
oh fuck I'm going to need to memorize at least five sets of speech patterns aren't I
>"I'm not fondling them! I'm trying to tear them off!"
i see hinata has more in common with togou than her hair color
Tumblr media
this'll be a joy to get straight
we even have multiple soft-spoken girls with long black hair
interesting to note that yuuna's not pictured yet.
>Normal weapons were useless against the Vertex, only those that the Heroes wielded could inflict damage upon them.
so do the weapons have fairies in them or what
>"Taisha" was written with the characters for "Great Shrine," wait a fucking second is this a different organization
Tumblr media
yeah yuuna's a time traveller.
chapter 2 end
Tumblr media
guess blossoming is already a thing
for some strange reason I feel like wakaba's the only character who matters here.
>And yet Yuuna was less concerned about herself, and more concerned with Chikage who hadn't participated in the battle at all.
yuuna being yuuna
>The next moment, the cylindrical Vertex began forming a clear red plate-shaped structure.
cancer?
>Out of the infinite records available to her, the one Yuuna now chose was "Ichimokuren".
wait, so yuuna's choosing her fairy?
and stuffing it in herself, which is bad.
>Wakaba had dodged the Vertex's charge with the least necessary movement, and at the same time, she bit off part of the enemy's body with her teeth.
don't bite the alien wakaba
>"Wakaba-chan! You can't go eating weird things like that, okay!?"
pff.
chapter 3 end
Tumblr media
so is she referring to actual blossoming here or what
>A foul smell hit her the moment she stepped inside.
welp
chikage's in a bad place
chikage's in a really bad place
>They both cursed her existence.
yikes
>Those who had hurt her once were now trying to get on her good side.
garbage people, the lot of them
>(My worth... is in being a hero...)
oh no this won't end well
>It allowed her to exist in seven different places at once. She wouldn't die unless all seven were killed at the same time.
and this is even one of the fairies mentioned in that report.
chapter 4 end
Tumblr media
??? I don't get it
oh hey gemini
>"I see! So then maybe we can use the udon as a diversion if it reacts to it!" there is absolutely no way this will work.
>untamarable what kind of pun is that
chapter 5 end
Tumblr media
wait a second is that part talking about udon did they censor udon and intelligent? why the hell would the taisha censor information about instant noodles
>The one who saved her was Yuuna. She suddenly appeared in the midst of the swarm and started holding them off instead of Wakaba. are you sure yuuna's not the protagonist here
so to temporarily stop the vertexes the taisha allegedly went aztec on what were allegedly six mikos those wouldn't happen to actually be these six characters somehow, would they? and I guess Yuuna would be a zombie...?
end of chapter 6
so apparently the divine tree is blaming humans too? fuck that tree.
guess hinata's hair is purple now.
>"...Her consciousness still hasn't returned." so are comas normal for yuuna
this group is a lot less stable than the other ones.
>Now that it had been denied... just how should she fight from now on?
youtube
wakaba freaking out about her girlfriend leaving is cute
ah, anzu's trying to cheer her up by point out how many people she’s been helping.
>(But now... I have to get over it.) :V guess the therapists all got eaten
and Chapter 7 ends with another timeskip.
>And perhaps they would keep on changing. *glances at gin's funeral*
>Aki Masuzu clamoured in misery as she changed clothes. oh boy another new character
>However, all communications with Suwa had ceased after last September.
and another tree circle is confirmed just to be killed off lemme guess, they'll disappear one by one until shikoku's all that's left?
>Finally, the Shinju appeared at the end of the path. hup
even in a light novel, the tree isn't described
>Several of the small stars combined into a brilliance unlike anything I've ever seen... leo again?
>There are two kinds of honetsukidori. Chick uses spring chickens while hen uses more mature chicken meat. Chick is more plump, tender, and easier to eat, while hen has a deeper flavour that oozes out the more you chew on its tougher meat. stop it, you're making me hungry
>All Yuuna was doing was cheerfully humming as she cleaned Wakaba's ears-- but not even Hinata was a match for a technique like that. even in other characters' stories, yuuna reigns supreme
>The fierce battle foretold in the oracle in the midst of the war of humanity's last stand would later be called the Battle of Marugame Castle. Oh, so we're getting into a fight that's actually important?
[End of chapter 8]
Tumblr media
hmm. you know what, there's only so long you can string me along with splotches of whiteout before I get desensitized to it.
>Would they just blindly increase in size, or would they guide their evolution into an intentional form? The latter.
>By that time, the black shadows wrapping around her foot had already disappeared. what the heck
>Suddenly, Tamako collapsed to her knees. really shouldn'tve tempted fate back there.
>The fairy she had extracted from the Shinju was Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a general with superhuman martial arts thought it was a divine tree, not a throne of heroes.
end of chapter 9.
Tumblr media
So are they going on a "trip" outside the wall? Wonder if it's as much of a primordial hellscape as it is in present times...
>Many buildings had been blown out from the inside as if a chemical explosion had occurred within, and traces of heat-deformation could be seen. That's the first unpleasant thing they saw? Guess the vertexes haven't done... whatever to destroy the atmosphere yet.
>For dinner, they were boiling water in a pot to cook some udon they had brought from Shikoku. It was a dry-noodle kind of Sanuki udon that kept well. of course they're eating udon.
>After dinner, everyone went into the river to wash off their sweat. oh boy another fanservice scene bet there's a cg for this too yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
>"If I become a hero and do my best fighting the Vertexes, I can save people. If we keep saving people, then we can slowly but surely take back the world and bring it back to normal. At least that's what I think!" Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero, after all.
>After the heroes had annihilated the Vertexes, they decided to resume moving for the day. even the story is getting bored.
>"Th... there was supposed to be an Osaka-famous rare book store here! How terrible! The last copies of incredibly precious books could be lost to the world now!" all that devestation, and that's what makes you freak out?
>Instead-- they found a heap of several skeletons. That's... odd. They haven't found any bodies so far, have they? I figured the Vertex don't leave anything behind.
>Wakaba noticed a notebook on the floor. She picked it up and looked inside. It was the diary of someone who took refuge in this underground mall.
oh are we going to read a diary in a diary?
chapter 10 end

A list of who has ‘solved’ cases.
Conan/Shinichi - Our main character. Still applies when solving with police officers or other detectives, though the only ones singled out are Heiji and the DB. Some people listed aren’t ones he solved for them but ones he gave hints.
Kogoro - Sleeping Kogoro. If he’s in parenthesis, he figured it out on his own.
Sonoko and Yamamura are also listed as a ‘sleeping’ type.
Agasa is when Conan uses his voice, even if he’s going along with it voluntarily.
Anyone just in parenthesis solved a case on their own. The parenthesis for the DB and KID are to set the type of case Conan was involved in because those are different from him solving murders with only the adults.
Technical solving is when one person solves it but someone else gives that person’t deduction.

186 done by Conan/Shinichi without ‘using’ anyone. (64 while with the DB. 25 of those with Heiji. 10 were Kid heist cases.)
People ‘used’: 56 Sleeping Kogoro. 11 Sonoko. 4 Yamamura. 1 Heiji. 16 Agasa.
People who gave a deduction that wasn’t their own willingly: 1 Ran (via cell phone earring). 3 Yukiko. 1 fake Kogoro.
People who largely figured things out on their own: 2 Kogoro (maybe more, but he gets a lot more help than he needs sometimes, main two that count are his reunion and the case with his old classmate turned actress). 2 Eri. 2 Heiji (one shared from middle school, one case before Conan was in town). 1 Shiratori (with the maybe childhood crush). 1 Makoto (no hints at all in his first appearance). 1 Goro (because he knew what’s up).
Some police cases that were included in Conan’s count could apply to ‘people who figured it out on their own’, as well as other detectives that he solved a case with, instead of ahead of. The Nagano police were good at solving their own cases. I just chose to count anything where Conan doesn’t really hide behind anyone while being involved in the cases under his count. It doesn’t have to do with who got all of the credit for solving the case, else many of Conan’s cases would go under Kogoro’s name or to the police.

It’d been quite an experience since getting called by the Shinju to deal with some of the rebelling gods inside of it, but the last thing Sonoko had been expecting was to meet her and Togo’s younger selves from their elementary school days. It was a bit surreal, but also a ton of fun. There was even the fact they both had another chance to see Gin again, as much as it was hard to deal with the constant reminder of what happened with her around, but she still appreciated it.
Though, considering they had just kind of appeared in the club room after being summoned, it meant they only had whatever items were on them. This obviously meant they had to go pick up a few essentials for the younger Heroes, which included clothes, bringing her to the current outing. With the three elementary school Heroes and Togo, they’d all gone to the nearest mall to find a place.
Tumblr media
“Hey, Wasshi~. How about that one?” The older Sonoko leisurely said with a smile, pointing toward a women’s clothes store, with some of the general aesthetics looking rather girly and cute over anything else at the front of the shop. Definitely in line with Sonoko’s tastes.
Tumblr media
“Er... I dunno if that place has my kind of clothes...” Gin commented, looking thoroughly unenthusiastic about stepping foot into the place.

Paranatural Yuki Yuna AU
aka. Maxwell Puckett is a Hero
For some reason, I have a bunch of ideas for a Pnat Yuki Yuna AU even though I haven't fully watched Yuki Yuna (I've watched some of the episodes in Tagalog on TV) but I did some reading about it on Tvtropes. I hope this is accurate enough. More under the cut (YuYuYu spoilers):
Max had just transferred to Mayview Middle School and is invited to join the Hero Activity Club where their activities involve helping people (he even got a new phone from joining). Things seem to be normal so far until one day, his phone starts ringing in a tone he's never heard before, all he sees on his phone is a notification saying "Forestize Warning", then suddenly, time stops around him and then he suddenly finds himself in some weird colorful place along with the other members of the Activity Club.
After the other members tell Max about the true purpose of the Hero Activity Club, they tell Max to sit this battle out since he's new. While watching the others fight the Vertex, Max is just processing the situation he just got into (he really should've known that there's a catch to joining a seemingly normal club that gives out free phones). It's not until later in the battle when the others really get in trouble that Max gets determined to fight and transforms to help them.
Johnny joins the club later (reason is up to you) but doesn't spend a lot of time with the other AC members (except for Max and maybe also Ed) outside of club activities as he mainly hangs out with his friends
In Johnny's first battle, after the others tell him everything he needs to know, he doesn't try to sit this battle out, instead he transforms right away with no hesitation and goes to fight the Vertex.
I don't know enough about flowers to figure out what flowers each of the kids would be associated with.
Do these sound like good design ideas for weapons/tools?: Izzy's book still has the same color scheme as it has in the character page and earlier chapters of the comic (white with some red) and it would have a flower symbol instead of an hourglass symbol. Ed's paintbrush looks like a vine or a stem and the paintbrush tip looks like a flower bud (I guess whether this is a good design or not depends on what flower he'd be associated with).
Obviously, the kids' fairies are their spirits. Later, each of them (except for Johnny) get another fairy: Max gets doctopus, Isaac gets Doorman, Isabel gets Flipflop, and I don't know who Ed's new fairy would be
Considering that they're fighting in some place that obviously doesn't have any metal, would Max's magnet powers even be useful? What if Max didn't even know he had magnet powers until he used his Mankai and the Vertex they were fighting happened to be metallic?
Just like in episode 5 of Yuki Yuna, there will be a battle were all of them except for Johnny use their Mankai at some point
Do these sound like good ideas for Mankai?: Max's is an electromagnet (if the lack of metal is still a problem, can electromagnets do more than just attract/repel metal?), Isaac's is a storm cloud, Johnny's is an arsenal of weapons (if you want to go with that, I don't how to incorporate the fire powers). I got nothing for Ed and Izzy
After using their Mankai for the first time, Max lost the use of his left arm, Isaac lost the use of one of his eyes, Ed lost his voice (he draws in addition to writing what he says), and Izzy lost the use of one or both of her legs.
Considering that unlike in the comic, everybody knows what the Activity Club does (the helping people part, not the defending Mayview part), would Suzy still want to snoop around the club? Regardless of whether or not she does, she'll get suspicious of them after learning that suddenly, two of them got crippled and one of them lost their voice (I don't think she'd know about Isaac since he's in a different grade).
The adult spectrals were former heroes. Whether or not Mr. Spender and Dr. Zarei got any visible disabilities is up to you. Maybe Agent Day's blindness came from having used Mankai at least twice.
Boss Leader is in an even worse state than Sonoko was. At least Sonoko still had an eye, an ear, and her voice. Boss Leader has nothing left of her. She can only interact with others via the dreamworld.
At some point, Boss Leader pulls Max and Isaac into the dreamworld after they were both knocked unconscious in a battle. What happens next is a version of the scene where Yuna and Togo learn the truth about the Hero System. BL even shows them her state in the real world (completely covered in bandages and confined to a hospital bed), it might not be a pretty sight for them to see. Afterwards, do you think Max and Isaac would tell the others what BL told them right away?
Do you think the kids would've known right away that their recent disabilities came from using Mankai? (If they haven't, maybe at first, they made some assumptions like Isaac was hit in the eye or Ed damaged his voice from shouting so much)
How much guilt do you think Mr. Spender feels towards letting the kids go through all of that?
Despite knowing the consequences, Johnny at some point uses Mankai multiple times at once (whether or not the circumstances of him doing so is the same as Karin's is up to you)
Yes or no?: Isaac takes the recent revelations the worst. Like Togo, he goes on to destroy the Shinju which would kill everyone so that he and his friends wouldn't have to suffer such a terrible fate. Max snaps him out of it later.
That's all I got I guess. What do you think? I'll leave the rest to whoever wants to write or draw for this au.
