TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN Reveals His Favorite Thing About Each NIGHTWISH Bandmate
In a new interview with Bear Wiseman of Off The Record, NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen was asked to name his favorite thing about each one of his bandmates, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley, singer Floor Jansen, drummer Kai Hahto and bassist Jukka Koskinen. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "They are the only other people in the world that I think about when I'm writing songs, because it's really important that they would be inspired about the stuff as well.
"I've known Emppu for more than 30 years, and he's just an incredible persona in the way that everything's always good with him," Tuomas continued. "He's the easiest-going bandmember there is. He does his job â his guitar playing is as professional as anybody â but other than that, it's always, like, 'Yeah, whatever.' 'Yeah, that sounds good. I'm fine.' He's so carefree, I'm almost envious about that because I worry about stuff constantly. So to get into his mind every now and then would be something else. He's a wonderful character. Same goes with Troy. He's just the most positive guy in the world. An incredible musician. Every time he enters the room, the room is filled with light and happiness and comedy. Yeah, he has definitely realized something thorough about life. Yeah, wonderful."
Tuomas added: "Floor is the best in the world in what she does. Really passionate about music, really understands the core of NIGHTWISH. And for me as a songwriter, that's such a relief because I know that whatever I do, whatever I want her to do, she's able to do. And a good example of this was when we recorded her vocals for this new album [the upcoming 'Yesterwynde']. We hadn't rehearsed once because we didn't have a chance. And we went to her home studio in Sweden. We had reserved two weeks for the recordings, and she was done in six days. Incredible, just incredible in what she does. Then Kai, too, again, the most amiable guy there is. I think he has like 25 guests on every single show we do and he doesn't know half of them. Yeah, everybody's his friend. So easy to be with. Pro musician, of course, obviously. What a drummer. But just fantastic guy. And same goes with Jukka. I mean, I've never, ever seen him angry or even agitated. He's just, like, 'Yeah, things will be okay. Let's talk about this.' And yeah, just a grounding personality. When you feel a bit agitated yourself, Jukka comes to you and you're, like, 'Oh, okay.' And a great bass player, of course. So lucky to be surrounded by these wonderful people. I really am."
NIGHTWISH's new album, "Yesterwynde", will be released on September 20 via Nuclear Blast. It marks the band's tenth studio LP, following on from the release of "Human. :II: Nature." in 2020.
In 2023, NIGHTWISH announced that the band wouldn't stage any tours in support of its then-unannounced tenth album. In a statement, Tuomas and his bandmates explained that "personal" reasons were the reason for the live hiatus and clarified that it had nothing to do with Jansen's then-pregnancy. The singer gave birth to her second daughter in October 2023.
In an interview with Metal Hammer last month, Holopainen said that NIGHTWISH still have no plans to tour after the release of "Yesterwynde".
"The reasons [for the live break] are personal," he said. "We're not going to go into it, but it was something that had to be done for this band to continue. There's no bad blood between the members, nothing like that. We just have to take a long breather."
The follow-up to 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful", "Human. :II: Nature." was a double album containing nine tracks on the main CD and one long track, divided into eight chapters, on CD 2.
In August 2022, NIGHTWISH announced the addition of Koskinen as an official member of the band. Koskinen, who made his live debut with NIGHTWISH in May 2021 at the band's two interactive experiences, had spent the previous year touring with NIGHTWISH as a session musician.
In November 2022, Jansen revealed that she was "cancer free" after undergoing surgery to have a tumor removed following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Happiness Blog- #1
Reading The How of Happiness while enduring one of the more unhappy times in my life seemed a little cruel at first, but now I am very grateful for it. One of the things that makes this book a reliable read is the fact that it is based on empirical research. Beginning this title, I was skeptical of it being another know-it-all author pandering to their audience and spouting claims that they cannot substantiate with anything other than a âtrust me bro,â but this book is actually heavily rooted in science. In the first chapter, âIs it possible to become happier?â I was intrigued to read about what determines happiness. While reading through the traits and practices that happier people typically show I found myself nodding along in agreement. The happiest people I know carried a majority if not all of the factors listed. One of the happiest people Iâve ever known is a sixty year old server name Fran who I have had the pleasure of working with for years, she is one of the best coworkers to have because she goes out of her way to help anyone who is weeded, always comes to work with a smile on her face, but doesnât shy away from more difficult topics and emotions. She will let you cry on her shoulder and cry with you while she is at it.Â
In chapter two, âHow happy are you and why?â I was confronted with a whopping depression score of 41. I did not want to take this assessment originally because I felt that my current mental state was not a fair or accurate representation of my normal âhappy-go-luckyâ self. I began the week by breaking up with someone I probably never should have dated, then I tried to convince myself I was over it by âgetting back out thereâ only to realize I am most definitely not over it. When I wasnât thinking about my ex my thoughts were oscillating between a state of existential dread and self depreciation. The cherry on top of this week was my receiving a call that my family's german shepherd was run over and killed by a car on Thursday. I so desperately wanted to begin the semester on a high note because it is my last one in undergrad, but sometimes life has other plans. That being said, while I sound miserable and pessimistic - employing simple gratitude techniques has helped me to get through this week. There is so much to be grateful for, and in moments like this you have to cling to that. An attitude of gratitude has been one of the quickest ways to halt a spiral for me. I know it was effective for severely depressed people within the chapter as well.
Chapter two delved into factors that many think are synonymous with happiness such as material wealth and beauty. Sonya uses research to debunk the claim that things like money and good looks bring little more than temporary contentment instead of long term happiness. The idea that physical attractiveness does not correlate with happiness is difficult to believe at first. Countless industries make billions of dollars every year from peoples endless pursuits to become more beautiful. Plastic surgery, cosmetics, trainers, diets, et cetera. But as I continued reading, the passage began to remind me of an article from the magazine blood knife titled, Everyone is beautiful and no one is horny. The article examines the idea of toxic beautification and fetishization of the human form through the lens of cinema. While I cannot do the article justice through attempting to summarize it, one of the more impactful quotes is this,Â
âA body is no longer a holistic system. It is not the vehicle through which we experience joy and pleasure during our brief time in the land of the living. It is not a home to live in and be happy. It, too, is a collection of features: six pack, thigh gap. And these features exist not to make our lives more comfortable, but to increase the value of our assets. Our bodies are investments, which must always be optimized to bring us⌠what, exactly? Some vague sense of better living? Is a life without bread objectively better than a life with it? When we were children, did we dream of counting every calorie and logging every step?â https://bloodknife.com/everyone-beautiful-no-one-horny/Â
I believe both the article and book bring about many thought provoking questions, the one at the forefront of my mind being âWhat is the point of having a beautiful body if you are miserable in the pursuit or achievement of it?âÂ

Oh gosh @witheringdreamâs idea has not left my head, and I know Iâm deep into my celebrity au but I couldnât not whip something up. Hereâs my take on a potential opening chapter:
When Beatrice thought about where to go for her vacation, going back to the country where she went to boarding school was definitely not on her list.
Donât get her wrong, Switzerland itself is beautiful.
Cities like Basel, Zurich, and Bern have their own unique charm, full of stunning architecture and rich culture - not to mention some of the best restaurants sheâs dined at in all of Europe.
And of course, the landscape of the country is equally as breathtaking â the pristine lakes, green forests and majestic mountains make Switzerland a stunning destination for anyone lucky enough to visit.
Beatrice knows that, itâs justâŚcoming back here is bringing up all sorts of memories.
Some are of course happy, but most serve as a stark reminder to the first eighteen years of her life when she was hiding in the closet, afraid to put a toe out of line or disappoint her family in any way, shape or form.
Boarding school was harsh and unforgiving, and stepping foot in this country was bringing all these emotions back up to the forefront of her mind.
Itâs safe to say that she would not be back here, if it weren't for the fact that sheâd won this week-long trip as part of a charity raffle jackpot.
She is currently studying for her masters degree at UCL, majoring in art history.
As a result of her dedication and hard work, Beatriceâs professors were able to help her land a job as an archivist at the Prado Museum in Madrid for her placement year.
Working in the renowned art gallery has brought many things to Beatriceâs life: endless hours immersed in archives, the joy of discovery at a new collection, and colleagues who have become like a second family to her.
She definitely didnât expect it to unearth a side of childhood trauma as a result of a competition.
Beatrice knew it was a bad idea to take part in the raffle â something in her gut had told her not to enter when she saw the top prize was a âmystery trip.â
The thought of winning a holiday to a destination you have no control over sounded like Beatriceâs worst nightmare.
Not to mention the nagging voice in her head (that suspiciously sounded like her parents) told her that there was no room for slacking off when studying a masters degree.
But how could she say no to the eighty six-year old museum secretary, Maria, whoâd looked at Beatrice with her kind eyes and wrinkly smile and pleaded at her to buy a ticket?
Plus it was for charity, with all the proceeds going to the NiĂąo JesĂşs University Children's Hospital in Madrid.
So, Beatrice had reluctantly handed over a ten euro bill to the old woman in exchange for a pink slip of paper with the number â81â printed on it.
The raffle became a hot topic in the staff break room, everyone speculating where the mystery destination would be, and what theyâd do if they were lucky enough to win.
Juan would surprise his girlfriend for her thirtieth birthday.
Carmen would treat her kids to the vacation during the school break.
Isabella and her husband would dine at all top-rated restaurants.
Everyone had an idea of what they wanted to do, and who theyâd take with them. Everyone apart from Beatrice.
Sure, she had made some close friends from the museum that she considered to be like a family to her, but that wasnât to say that she was willing to go on holiday with them.
And as for her university friends back in London, they were all too busy to take a break and jet to another country at the drop of a hat.
Of course, it was just her luck that her ticket turned out to be the winning number.
So here Beatrice was, back in Switzerland in some tiny town at the foothold of the Alps, two days into a vacation she didnât really want to be on.
Spiez is charming and picturesque; its narrow streets are all lined with traditional Swiss houses that are adorned with flower-filled balconies. The town is also situated right on the edge of a serene lake that mirrors the grandeur of the surrounding mountains.
To put it simply; itâs paradise.
But for Beatrice, the scenic beauty is eclipsed by the fact that sheâs reminded of her past as well as the fact that thereâs very little to do in the town â well, thereâs a distinct lack of activities that she considers fun.
If youâre into partying and skiing you're probably spoiled for choice in Spiez.
Sadly, Beatrice prefers vacations where she can explore the history of a place, delve into its past at a museum, or marvel at architectural wonders.
Whether itâs studying the brushwork on a painting hanging in the Louvre, wondering at the marble craftsmanship of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore or admiring the sheer size of the Colosseum, she would always choose history and art over rest and relaxation.
Spiez, while undeniably charming, doesn't offer the historical richness she craves. The absence of a museum or a gallery leaves her feeling somewhat out of place.
She really wishes the grand prize had been somewhere like Berlin, Istanbul or Rome â although the latter may not be the safest of places to be right now, given the Vatican explosion that happened last month.
Of course, Beatrice has tried to make the most of her time in Speiz so far.
She has spent the first two days ticking off the small itinerary list she made before she flew out of Madrid:
- Eat some traditional RĂśsti
- Visit Speiz castle
- Hike the circular trail
- Try some Spiezer wine
The first two, she completed on arrival to the town.
Today, the only activity sheâs managed to complete so far is hiking the townâs famous circular trail around the lakeside and into the mountains. Now, sheâs at a loss of what to do with the remainder of her time here.
AlthoughâŚthere is one activity that she hasnât boxed off yet.
As she sits in her hotel, Beatrice talks herself into stepping out of her comfort zone.
She decides that tonight sheâll throw caution to the wind and head into town to a local bar in the search of some Spiezer wine.
And who knows, with a bit of liquid courage in her veins, maybe sheâll actually make some new friends while sheâs at it.
Itâs how she managed to break the ice after her first day at the Prado â connecting with the rest of the archivists on her team over a couple of glasses of vermouth.
Beatrice pulls out her phone to look up the top-rated bars in the town.
As she clicks on the link to Tripadvisor, sheâs surprised to see that the highest ranked bar has an exterior that looks like a mix between a ski chalet and Santaâs grotto.
Itâs veryâŚunique to put it lightly.
She taps on the hyperlink for âBar La Vasseurâ and flicks through the images â the place is a little rustic, but it looks like a quiet place to relax and grab a drink.
Beatrice scrolls to the bottom of the page and quickly skim reads the customer feedback.
Overwhelmingly, the majority of Bar La Vasseurâs reviews are positive, praising the cleanliness, cozy atmosphere and friendly bar staff.
A lot of the recent reviews keep mentioning a girl that works behind the bar called âAva,â praising her charming personality and easy going nature.
âAva is the best bartender Iâve ever met - sheâs so friendly - give her a raise!â
âBar la Vasseur is a must-visit for solo travellers in Speiz. Ava made me feel very welcome, and even suggested a few cocktails to try.â
âAwesome bar, awesome drinks and awesome bar staff. Ava is the best.â
âAva is freaking cool and way friendly than the other guy theyâve got working there. Plus, fellas, sheâs HOT!â
Okay, casual misogyny aside, the reviews all point to one thing. This spot is definitely the best bar for her to visit.
Beatrice leaves the hotel in the direction of Bar La Vasseur.
With each step, she resolves to try and make the most of her time in Spiez.
At the very least itâs a good opportunity to practice her Swiss-German â sheâs a little rusty since she left boarding school some five years ago.
The bar is relatively quiet when she arrives, with only a handful of patrons scattered throughout.
As she stands in the threshold, Beatrice's eyes scan the room until they land on a girl behind the bar.
Said girl is leaning forward on the countertop, engrossed in watching something on her phone. This must be the famous âAva.â
It turns out the user who wrote that crude Tripadvisor review was indeed correct â Beatrice is yet to walk over, but even from this distance, she can appreciate that Ava is very attractive.
She pushes down the whispers that form in the back of her mind; the same ones that used to berate her every time she appreciated the sight of a beautiful woman during her childhood.
Itâs still new for Beatrice, being fully comfortable in her sexuality and not scolding herself every time she so much glances at a member of the same sex.
Since she moved to Madrid six months ago, sheâs fully managed to embrace that side of herself. She now lives her life the way she wants to, without the pressure and expectations that her family have placed on her.
Beatrice makes her way over to the bar to order a drink and is caught off guard by the sound of angelic laughter coming from the bartenderâs lips.
Ava appears to be enthralled by whatever video is playing on the screen of her phone, so much so that she doesnât notice Beatriceâs arrival straight away.
Beatrice shuffles nervously on her feet and lets out a polite cough to grab the womanâs attention. âVerzeihung?â She asks in German.
This startles the bartender, who mutters out a curse word in English â âshit!â â and hastily puts her phone down, before she looks up to the source of the noise.
The girlâs gaze falls on her, and Beatrice immediately feels her entire throat close up as she stares into the deepest, warmest brown eyes sheâs ever seen in her life.
And oh, she is well out of her depth here, because Ava is absolutely stunning and not at all what she expected. Her lips are full and a pretty shade of rosy pink, her jaw is sharp and strong, and her neckâŚbloody hell.
âHey, a new face! Welcome to Bar La Vasseur, Iâm Ava,â she greets, giving Beatice an absolutely beaming smile. âWhat would you like to drink?â
âU-Um,â Beatrice splutters, momentarily forgetting how to form words.
Ava raises a brow at her, which should really kick her motor functions into gear, but instead Beatrice continues to falter under the warmth of the girlâs gaze.
Ava watches her with amusement, her brown eyes sparkling.
âNot sure, huh?â she asks, biting her lip. âOh lemme guess! I love figuring people out,â Ava adds excitedly, her eyes all wide and giddy.
âOkayâŚ?â Beatrice finally manages to spit out. âGo a-ahead.â
âHmm, an accentâŚinteresting,â Ava hums as she looks her up and down.
Suddenly Beatriceâs ears feel very hot under the scrutiny of this pretty girl. Ava taps a finger to her lips as she ponders her guess.
âIâm guessing you're not a beer kinda gal, otherwise you wouldâve ordered one right away like most of our regulars,â she theorizes.
âCorrect,â Beatrice confirms, finally finding her voice. This earns her a big toothy grin from Ava.
âKnew it,â she smirks, before continuing her guessing game. âAnd judging by your accent, I know youâre British so you probably want something super sophisticated like a gin, or a brandy, orââ
ââdefinitely not brandy,â Beatrice interjects with a grimace. She shudders; that particular drink reminds her far too much of her father. âAnd I donât mind gin, but Iâd rather have something a little less strong.â
Ava looks at her, intrigued. âOooh a woman who knows what she likes, I can dig that,â she grins, âI think I know just the thing.â
Ava wiggles her eyebrows in a suggestive manner. It should come off cheesy and childish, yet somehow the bartender manages to pull it off, which only serves to make her more bloody attractive.
Beatrice is unsure as to how Ava knows what she wants to drink with so little information, but it doesnât deter the bartender.
She watches as the girl ducks under the bar to rummage through the storage cupboards; the sound of various bottles clinking together echoing around the bar.
âWhere the fuck did I put it?â She hears Ava curse as she scours the cupboard for something.
The bartender pops her head back up and looks at Beatrice. âIâll just be a second,â she tells her apologetically before turning her head in the direction of a set of stairs that lead to the upper floor of the bar.
âHans!â Ava yells out. âBeweg deinen Arsch hierher!â - âGet your ass down here!â
Thereâs a brief pause before the sound of heavy footsteps come bounding down the stairs.
A tall blonde haired man with a mustache pokes his head halfway down, âJa?â
âWo ist die Flasche Seilschaft?â Ava asks him - âWhere is the bottle of Seilschaft wine?â
Beatrice is impressed, Ava had guessed correctly that she wanted a glass of Speizer wine.
Hans shakes his head. âWir haben nichts mehr Ăźbrig,â He replies â âWeâre all out.â
Well thatâs one thing sheâs not going to get ticked off her Swiss bucket list tonight.
Ava turns back to Beatrice with a frown. âIâm sorry, but we donât have any Speizer wine left,â she laments.
âOh thatâs quite alright,â Beatrice reassures, before adding, âThat was some great guessing though.â
âTold ya Iâm good at reading people,â Ava gives her a small smile before face morphs into something mischievous, âMaybe can I tempt you with something differentâŚan Ava Special perhaps?â
Beatrice is usually super picky with her drinks, but the look Ava is giving herâŚsheâs powerless to resist. Plus, she hates to admit it, but sheâs kind of intrigued to see what classifies as an âAva Special.â
âWhatâs that?â She asks, mirroring the smile that Avaâs giving her. This girl is infectious.
âPfffft, only the best cocktail youâll ever have in your whole damn life!â Ava brags, drawing a chuckle from Beatriceâs throat. The bartender leans forward into her personal space and whispers, âBut between you and me, itâs just a normal Cuba Libre with a bit of a spicy kick.â
Beatrice does not do well with spice, yet it doesnât stop her from giggling and agreeing to try the drink. âOkay, Iâll take an Ava Special.â
The bartender throws her wink and says, âComing right up,â while Beatrice tries not to spontaneously combust.
She watches with a blush on her cheeks as Ava grabs a bottle of rum to start preparing her drink, her eyes following the bartenderâs every move.
âSo,â Ava pipes up as she pours a heavy measure of Bacardi into the glass, âWhat brings you to SwitzerlandâŚ.uhâŚ.?â
Ava looks expectantly at her, waiting for her to introduce herself.
âBeatrice,â she replies.
The bartender starts cutting up a lime. âWow that's a pretty name,â she hums.
Beatrice blushes â she was never able to take compliments very well.
âWhat brings you to Switzerland, Beatrice?â Ava asks, her name rolling off her tongue with ease.
âIâm actually here on holiday,â Beatrice explains. âI won a competition at my placement job and they all but forced me to come.â
Ava chuckles as she grabs the drinks dispenser to fill the glass with cola. âPlacement? So youâre a student?â
âYes, Iâm working at the Prado Museum in Madrid as a part of my masters degree.â
âWhat course are you studying?â Ava asks, her big brown eyes all enthralled as she hangs on Beatriceâs every word.
âIâm majoring in History of Art.â
âHoly shitâŚpretty and smart? Looks like I landed on the customer jackpot today, huh?â Ava states with a low whistle, causing Beatrice's face to redden.
Is Ava flirting with her? Or is this just some ploy for an extra big tip?
Beatrice really hopes itâs the former, because Ava is looking at her with such genuine wonder in her eyes that it actually seems like sheâs interested in learning more about Beatriceâs life.
Sheâd walked into Bar La Vasseur wanting to try some Speizer wine, but now? Beatrice is hoping to savor more than just the local drinks.
Ava gives her a soft smile as she pops a red and white straw in the cocktail. She wipes her palms on her apron and pushes the drink forward towards Beatrice.
âVoilĂ !â She beams, raising her hands in the air as if she were a magician revealing a dazzling trick to an amazed audience.
As Beatrice takes the first sip of the Ava Special, the spicy kick surprises her taste buds. She manages to hide her reaction, but Ava catches the subtle shift in her expression.
Ava leans against the bar, a playful glint in her eyes. "Like it?" she teases.
Beatrice coughs, trying to dislodge some of the spice in the back of her throat, "It's definitely uniqueâŚbut yes I do. I knew it was going to be spicy, but itâs actually got a surprising kick to it.â
Ava gives her a smug grin, clearly pleased with herself. "Youâre very welcome,â she says, all low and raspy, âSo, Beatrice, got any exciting plans for the rest of your time in Spiez?"
Beatrice takes another sip, contemplating. "Not really. I've explored most of what the town has to offer. Any recommendations?"
Ava taps her chin thoughtfully. âI take it youâve seen the castle?â
âYes, it was fascinating. To think it was built in the 10th century by Rudolph the second,â Beatrice clocks the cheeky look that Ava gives her, ââŚSorry, Iâm rambling arenât I?â She flushes.
âYouâre such a nerd,â Ava sniggers, biting her lip, âItâs cute.â
The complement only serves to fluster Beatrice further â her ears are as red and warm as her face feels.
She clears her throat. âSo, yes, Iâve seen the castle.â
âHmm, okay,â Ava hums, deep in thought.
Beatrice tries not to stare at the way she chews on her bottom lip while doing so. Oh lordâŚ
âOoh I know!â Ava says, snapping to attention. âHave you been to Maniâs yet?â
âManiâs? I canât say I have.â
âItâs this little coffee spot off the Oberlandstrasse and they do the best ham and cheese roll-upsâŚugh Iâm getting hungry just thinking about them,â Ava moans, her face all dreamy.
Beatrice giggles. âSo theyâre good? The ham and cheese roll-ups?â
âYup,â Ava pauses briefly, before her face morphs into something mischievous, âI guess you could say that theyâre un-brie-lievable.â
Beatrice shakes her head at the terrible pun, unable to stop a chuckle leaving her lips. âThat was awful.â
Ava lets out a dramatic gasp, feigning hurt, âWhat? You didnât like it? I know my puns are cheesyâŚâ she trails off, watching as Beatrice laughs some more.
Sheâs unable to stop herself from meeting the bartender head on with her own, âIâm sorry Ava but your cheese puns are really not that grate.â
Avaâs eyes widen in surprise at the answer, clearly ecstatic that Beatrice is joining in on the playful banter.
She flashes her possibly the biggest and brightest smile of the entire evening, âReally? I thought it was a gouda one.â
âPlease stop, I camembert it.â
Ava throws her head back and lets out the same angelic laugh that Beatrice first heard when she walked into the bar. Her shoulders are shaking and sheâs full-on cackling at the last punchline.
Beatrice bites her lip. Avaâs laugh is a really pretty sound.
The bartender wipes a stray tear from her eye as her laughter subsides. âSeriously though,â Ava starts, âYou have to check out Maniâs while youâre here.â
âI will,â Beatrice says as an idea pops into her head.
Sheâs not usually one to ask women out, but something about Ava felt magnetic. Sheâd never smiled so much, not to mention laughâŚso why not see where this goes whilst sheâs here?
Feeling confident she throws caution to the wind and forces herself to ask Ava the question.
âPerhaps you could show me?â She suggests, watching the surprise appear on Avaâs face.
This time itâs the bartenderâs turn to bite her lip. âAs a friend?â Ava asks tentatively, her voice dropping an octave.
Now or never.
âAs a date,â Beatrice clarifies, her voice steady and sure. âIf youâd like that.â
Where the hell was all this new found confidence coming from?!
Ava leans in, her eyes searching Beatrice's face.
"Well, Bea,â Ava says, casually slipping the nickname into conversation, her breath tickling her ear. She smells divine. âI'd say that's edam good idea," Ava whispers, her lips brushing against Beatriceâs earlobe.
Beatrice rolls her eyes and gives Ava a small smile as the bartender pulls away, trying not to focus on how hot her face feels right now.
âS-So,â she stumbles. âHow about tomorrow morning? My treat of course.â
Ava visibly winces.
âI, uh, actually canât do mornings,â she laments, âMy roommate, Mary, gets me up at the freaking crack of dawn for halo training, which sucks balls, so maybe we can do lunch before I start my shift instead?â
Beatriceâs smile disappears and her face scrunches up in confusion. Halo-what now?
âHalo training?â She questions, and is surprised to see all the color drain from the bartenderâs face.
Avaâs eyes widen almost comically, and for the first time since Beatrice stepped into the bar she actually looks nervous.
Sheâs on the edge about something â looking like sheâs just revealed some secret information to Beatrice that she shouldnât have. The bartender curses under her breath to herself before she explains.
âYeah, um, Iâm sort of doing a triathlon soonâŚitâs called the âHalo.â Itâs this big, big thing and yeah. Mary is super keen that weâre prepared for it. Hence the âno can do anything but trainâ mornings.â
Ava flashes her a nervous smile, and waits with bated breath for her response.
Beatrice is quite an observant person, sheâs always been good at reading people. Which is why she can tell straight away that Avaâs lying to her.
Sheâs unsure as to why Ava feels the need to be so secretive with what she actually does on her mornings, especially considering she literally just met Beatrice less than thirty minutes ago.
But whatever it is, it has Ava looking really chewed up about it. So, Beatrice decides to brush it off and not question her any further.
âThat sounds intense,â she muses, before giving Ava a lifeline, âAnd lunchtime works for me.â
âGreat!â Ava beams, the worry from her face disappears instantly. âIâm already looking forward to it.â
Beatrice gives her a small smile, âMe too.â
She drinks the rest of her drink and orders another âAva Special.â Sheâll order three more before the night is out, partly due to the fact that she is unable to leave the bar due to Ava and her magnetic pull.
Their conversation flows freely for the rest of the evening with no pauses â apart from when Ava has to take someoneâs order. And without even realizing, time ticks away within the blink of an eye.
Last orders are called and as Beatrice stands to leave, Ava walks around the bar to hand her a folded piece of paper with her number on it.
"In case you get lost on your way to Mani's," she says with a playful wink.
Ava pulls her in for a quick hug goodbye before heading back behind the bar to clean up.
Beatrice takes her leave and steps out into the cool night, feeling a little buzzed.
She smiles to herself.
Maybe his holiday wasnât going to be so bad after all.
i think someone needs to write an au where ava still ends up as the warrior nun but beatrice never joined catâs cradle and they somehow meet anyways and beatrice ends up being avaâs little secret comfort getaway that she just shows up to unannounced almost. like a superhero/spiderman situation but sheâs almost never banged up cause super healing!!
beatrice could be having a normal job with a pretty good career but sheâd just be still probably super repressed cause sheâs spent her life trying to please her parents and ava would be forever in debt of catâs cradle cause they gave her her literal life back so sheâs never able to fully let go of them plus the halo in her back and all that.
and i think the angst potential is too monumental for someone to not come and write this shit up
#they go on plenty of dates as the week progresses#and then ava drags beatrice up on the dancefloor and they drunkenly make out#and before you know it avaâs coming back to beaâs hotel and đ#then a few days later ava and mary have to leave in a rush and bea is heartbroken#but they end up meeting in madrid at the Prado museum and so on etcâŚ#this has been living in my head rent free#sister beatrice#ava silva#warrior nun#avatrice

NIGHTWISH To Begin Recording Next Album In Summer Of 2023
In a new interview with Rock Sverige, NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main composer Tuomas Holopainen was asked if he has commenced work on the material for the follow-up to 2020's "Human. :II: Nature." album. He responded: "I've got all the songs done during the pandemic. I might as well use that time. We listened to the demos for the first time with the whole band about three weeks ago when we were in America. Things are rolling."
Tuomas went on to say that he spent "about a year" working on the music and lyrics for the next NIGHTWISH album, "and then we finished the demos about two months ago. We're hitting the studio next summer, so in about a year from now," he revealed. "Like I said, might as well use the time for something."
Asked if he got any kind of inspiration from the pandemic, Tuomas said: "Yeah, lyrically there's a couple of things that reflects the pandemic, but not in the way you would expect."
"Human. :II: Nature." was released in April 2020. The follow-up to 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" was a double album containing nine tracks on the main CD and one long track, divided into eight chapters, on CD 2.
In July 2021, NIGHTWISH played a special "secret" concert in Oulu, Finland as a warm-up for its festival appearances in Finland. The gig marked NIGHTWISH's first fan-attended show in more than two and a half years. It was also NIGHTWISH's first proper concert with session bassist Jukka Koskinen's (WINTERSUN),who stepped into the group as the replacement for longtime NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marko "Marco" Hietala. Hietala announced his departure from the band in January 2021, explaining in a statement that he hadn't "been able to feel validated by this life for a quite a few years now."
Koskinen made his live debut with NIGHTWISH at the band's two interactive experiences in May 2021. The shows reportedly drew 150,000 viewers, setting the record for the largest paid virtual concert in Finland's history. Most of the viewers came from Europe and North America, but the performance was a truly global event, with fans in 108 countries purchasing tickets to the show and the box office gross exceeding one million euro.
In May 2021, Holopainen said that Hietala's decision to leave NIGHTWISH "came as a bit of a surprise." He told Finland's Kaaos TV: "Marko informed us in December [of 2020 that he was leaving the band]. And even though he has been very open about his state and problems during the past years, it still came as a bit of a surprise for us. So it was a really tough pill to swallow. And for a few days, I was actually quite confident that there's no coming back, that this is it. I remember talking to Emppu [Vuorinen], the guitar player, and we were, like, 'You think this is it?' 'Yeah, I think this is it.' I mean, enough is enough. So much has happened in the past. Something that broke the camel's back, as they say. Then, after some time had passed â a few days â we started to think that it's been such a ride of 25 years, with so many ups also, that this is not the way to end it."

Hello Mojo, hope you're doing well and that you had a good break! I wanted to signal boost the MDZS May Diaspora event collection on AO3, and point out my favorite fic from there: ĺ˝ĺżäźźçŽ | Longing to Go Home by dragongirlG! It's both tender and bittersweet and it features such mature writing. The author got some hate for it when it initially got posted so I wanted to counter that and give it some love instead! [Who would do such a thing?!  @dragongirlg-fics Iâm sorry that happened to you, and here, have *so many hugs!* Iâll try to do a thing just for the diaspora event, but meanwhile, Iâll just treat this as a follower rec.]
ĺ˝ĺżäźźçŽ | Longing to Go Home
by dragongirlG (M, 8k, wangxian)
Summary: Â The destruction of the Yin Tiger Seal does not kill Wei Wuxian; it ages him instead. He takes shelter in a cave expecting to die, but instead he lives, slowly learning to embrace life with each new day.
Thirteen years later, a young man with a Lan forehead ribbon stumbles into the cave. His name is Lan Sizhui.

Hi Momjo!!! I recently read the most *adorable* fic, and I loved it so much that it dragged me out of seclusion (read: social anxiety cave) to rec it. It's called 'Covered in Bees' by ScarlettStorm in which the Cloud Recesses is an apiary, and Wei Wuxian has suddenly found himself host to a swarm of bees. ~ @akyra-talanoa
Covered in Bees
by ScarlettStorm (T, 8k, wangxian)
Summary: âCloud Reccesses Apiary,â says a toneless, deep masculine voice, with zero question in it. Wei Ying doesnât care, because whoever possesses that voice is probably going to come save him from bees like a fucking hero while wearing like, a suit of armor. Thatâs what you wear to catch bees, right?
âI have like, so many bees outside my front door right now,â he says, mouth running out ahead of him before he can even begin to think about reining it in. âItâs like a sandstorm of bees out there. There are so many bees. I got out of my car and there were just bees and I donât want these bees. Do you want these bees? Please tell me you will come get these bees. I canât leave my house and I have enough food for maybe a week but then Iâm gonna have to learn how to cook dry beans and no one wants that, especially not me.â Wei Ying runs out of air, takes a breath, and belatedly adds, âMy name is Wei Ying. Hi.â
Or: The beekeeping AU that no one asked for.

Hi, you are a bless to this fandom. Your blog feels like a library, so thoroughly arranged and always within hand reach. [Thank you, wow!] Recently, I was going through Wèi YÄŤng | Wèi WĂşxiĂ n is a WÄn tag and came across a fanfic, it has 3 chapters till now and is so intriguing that i thought to recommend it to you. I don't know if I can recommend or if you have already checked the story, The legendary Phoenix and his Dragon by Devipriya. I am in love with this story. I hope you will enjoy it too, do check it out
The legendary Phoenix and his Dragon
by Devipriya (T, 7k, wangxian)
Summary:Â Â Wen Wuxian, the essence of who he is, he is a naughty child, a prankster, an enchanting dizi player, a graceful dancer, an irresistible lover, a truly valiant warrior, a ruthless vanquisher of his foes, a man who left a broken heart in every home, an astute statesman and kingmaker, a thorough gentleman, a righteous individual of the highest order, and the most colorful incarnation.
He has been seen, perceived, understood and experienced in many different ways by different people. Different people saw different facets of who he is. For some, he is God. For some, he is a crook. For some, he is a lover. For some, he is a fighter. He is so many things.
But the phoenix, seen from the eyes of time was just a playful man. A man who plays with his awareness, with his imagination, with his memory, with his life, with his death. An individual who does not just dance with somebody. He dances with life. He dances with his enemy, He dances with the one he loves, He dances even at the moment of his death.
To taste an essence of who is Wen Wuxian, be with me in the journey of exploration, NO! playful exploration of life of a playful man.

Hi! Thanks for running this blog, it's helped me find so many fics. For your next follower recs post, I wanted to rec "This love like a flood, a fire, a fear" by natcat5. Its summary is vague (which I suspect is why it isn't better known) but it is a beautiful retelling of canon from LWJ's POV with slight canon divergence. I love the author's characterization of him and the prose is gorgeous. It is easily my favorite fic in the entire fandom, and I don't say that lightly. ~ @nyanja14
This love like a flood, a fire, a fear
by natcat5Â (M, 57k, wangxian, lan wangji & lan xichen)

My Fox

Or one where Lan WangJi is a dragon-spirit and he finds his mate in the form of a fox.
Catfish
by Xiao_Hua (E, 15k, wangxian)
Summary:Â Â Wei WuXian has a common sense that believes it has a nine-to-five job while Lan WangJi finds that incredibly hot.

Under a Blanket of Black Wings
by ChaoticAndrogynous (T, 19k, wangxian)

Hello Mojo! Have you read âKey Differencesâ by Pupeez4eva? Its a MDZS!WWX meets CQL!WWX and its really good! [Itâs on my list!]
Key Differences
by pupeez4eva (T, 6k, wangxian)
Summary:Â Â âI donât understand,â Wei Wuxian said, while his alternate self continued to stare at him with almost a look of hurt in his eyes. There was longing in there too, which Wei Wuxian would have easily recognised if he paid enough attention. âHow could you not get together, after everything. What even went on in the Guanyin Temple if you didnât confess?â
âThe Guanyin Temple,â Wei Ying repeated incredulously. âYouâre asking me if I confessed at â honestly, a lot went on that day. It was a life and death situation. There was no confessing.â
Wei Wuxian stared at him, appalled.
(Wherein Wei Wuxian ends up meeting an alternate version of himself who, much to his horror, never married Lan Wangji. Obviously he has to do something to fix this).
~*~
Hey Mojo i would recommend this fanfic if you already havenât, itâs called â take me back to a time â by DizziDreams. Itâs sooooo good
take me back to a time
by DizziDreams (T, 144k, wangxian, 3zun)
Summary:Â Â Wei Ying has a lot on his plate right now.
Itâs finals week -- which isnât so bad. Heâs never had to study much to do well in classes. But that just means that things are that much more tense with Jiang Cheng, who, as far as Wei Ying can tell, only takes study breaks long enough to glare at Wei Ying where he sits on the couch playing video games.
Itâs not studies that have Wei Ying stressed out. Itâs everything else. Itâs the recruitment for the research trial heâs coordinating. Itâs jiejie and her impending marriage to His Royal Douchebag Jin Zixuan. Itâs the volunteer work at the palliative care facility. Itâs Wen Ningâs worsening condition. Itâs Wen Qing working herself thin to care for her brother and Wen Yuan. Itâs the way Wen Yuan never seems to have enough food.
So, yeah. Thereâs enough on Wei Yingâs plate already, meaning itâs not entirely welcome when he comes home and finds a man standing in his bedroom. A man in extravagant white robes, a ribbon tied around his forehead, long hair gathered into a topknot, fist clutching a sword at his side, who asks him, âWhere am I?â
~*~
Idk if this has already been recâd (Iâve been off the grid for a while now), but thereâs this absolutely incredible fic called Restitution by an anon on ao3 people should definitely check out!
this one?
on restitution
by Anonymous (M, 78k, wangxian, jin ling & wei wuxian, lan sizhui & wei wuxian, WIP)
Summary:Â Â When Wei Wuxian regains consciousness, he is in a bed. A real, proper bed, not the slab he called a bed in his cave in the Burial Mounds.
Jiang Cheng is glowering above him.
Wei Wuxian doesn't die during the siege of the Burial Mounds. Rather, he is captured in secret and confined at Lotus Pier. Things change accordingly.

âWhy am I nervous? We've done much more than just kiss. For fucks sake! I'm the mother of his child.â
You took a few deep breaths to calm yourself down before pushing the cart from behind your truck towards the large glass doors of the cafĂŠ. You had offered to take todayâs batch of bread and pastries to Leviâs to snag a chance to see him, much to Mikasaâs annoyance.
âOi, brat! Youâre late.â, Levi remarked without looking up from his laptop when the bell above the door rang with your entrance, expecting her to have finally arrived.
âLevi, Iâm so sorry! I made an impromptu decision to come here instead of Mikasa and -â, you emerged from behind the lofty stack of boxes.
Your hair was up in a messy bun, you were panting from hauling the weight and the resultant perspiration made you glow. Your continual rambling about why you were late, instantly gave him a feeling of DĂŠjĂ vu, hurling him eight years back in time to the morning when he first laid his eyes on you. Mirroring that day, he couldnât focus on anything you were saying, gawking at you with unblinking eyes given how stupefied he was by the sight before his eyes and the sound of your voice.
âLevi? Are you listening?â, you waved your hand in front of his face, disrupting the mental movie playing in his head.
âHuh? Oh, y-yeah. Hi.â he shook his head vigorously and blinked a few times to bring himself back to the present.
Both a blushing mess, you stood by the entrance to the cafe, smiling at each other like two smitten high-schoolers.
âAre you finally back together?â, a shriek from the opposite end of the seating area made your ears ring.
The cacophony was loud enough that Erwinâs head immediately peaked out of his office; his face riddled with confusion. Both your necks snapped towards the source - Hange was running in your direction with the brightest grin on their face. Every head in the room was turned towards you. Eren and other new members of staff at the cafĂŠ, Armin, Jean, Sasha and Connie were slack jawed with their gaping eyes fixed on you after being subjected to this abrupt and unnecessary announcement. One look from Levi sent them scrambling back to work.
âFucking four-eyes.â he mumbled as they came closer.
âI knew it! You lovebirds couldnât stay apart for long!â, they squealed with joy enveloping you both in an spontaneous group hug, not giving Levi an opportunity to flinch away.
âShhh! Calm down, Hange! Weâre not back together. Yet.â, you tugged on their hands trying to free yourself from their clasp.
Levi's eyes met and stayed on yours when you uttered the last word, the way his heart fluttered at the sound of it clearly reflecting on his face.
Yet.
âBut you were together last night. You have both put in way too much effort in your appearances today. And the color on Short-stack's cheeks can be spotted from Mars! What am I missing here?â, they observed, unaware of the heat rising within their two friends thinking about their final moments together at the Ackerman home yesterday.
Always the perceptive one, Hange. They werenât entirely wrong. You did spend forty minutes in your closet hunting for the one floral lemon-yellow dress that Levi loved seeing you in; piling on deodorant while simultaneously cursing the hot summer. You picked your reflection in the mirror apart for way too long, fiddling with the necklace he bought you ages ago while rehearsing what you would say to him.
By the looks of it, he did too. He looked oh-so handsome today. Granted, he always did. But today was different. He wore your favorite navy-blue button-down shirt with slate grey slacks, sleeves folded to reveal his toned fore arms, and the top two buttons left open to aid with the sweltering heat; or was it because he knew that it made you weak in the knees when he wore his shirts that way? And his cheeks and ears were definitely a brighter shade of pink than the raspberry compote on the cheesecake you brought.
He stood pinching the bridge of his nose, his breathing starting to speed up. You figured it was his attempt at suppressing the strong urge to smack the grin right off Hangeâs face.
âHange, I promise, Iâll give you all the details later. But for now, Levi and I have things to discuss.â, you pulled him away before he could act on his impulse.
Taking a seat at the table by the large bay window, kissed by the morning sun, you watched the city slowly rise awake with your cheek resting on the palm of your hand. Levi, who was walking back from the kitchen with a cup of tea for himself and a caramel latte for you, stopped in his tracks to mentally frame this image. It was as if you were a different person than who he met over the last two days.
There were no signs of the anxious but adoring mother from yesterday nor the bewildered, pained ex-wife from the day before; you were the same clumsy, moody, garrulous, as well as kind, selfless and mesmerizing woman he fell madly in love with when you walked in through the doors of this very place eight years ago. How could one person flood his heart with a barrage of different emotions this way?
You acknowledged him with a soft âhiâ accompanied by a smile when he sat down on the chair opposite to you, nervous about the forthcoming conversation. You stole occasional glances at each other while sipping your beverages, hesitating to be the one to say the first word.
âDo you hate me?â, he asked out of the blue, his gaze locked on his cup.
âNo! Why would you think that?â
âUh- you obviously had a chance to think about what I said to you after going home last night. Why would you possibly want to still see me?â
âWell, Iâm here, aren't I? I want to work on us if youâre willing to try as well, Levi. I want to see where this takes us.â, you smiled, placing your hand on his.
"Me too."
.
.
Four months later
The day of Suki and Furlan's wedding was finally here. The venue was set, guests had arrived and you were busy helping the bride get ready for her special day, having spent all morning with her, Isabel and the other bridesmaids in the bridal suite, chatting away in excitement and anticipation for the day ahead.
âHonestly speaking, Suki, Iâd have a hard time keeping my hands off you if I were Furlanâ, you teased while draping the veil into her hair, causing her to bury her face into her palms.
âYouâre one to talk! Levi has been looking for reasons to see you all morning. I had to turn him away thrice already. I'm pretty sure he is going to murder me after the wedding is over.â, Isabel shot back with a smirk.
The last four months had been nothing short of a whirlwind. After that morning at the cafe, having breakfast with Levi turned into a routine. He brought Luna along on most days, and the three of you spent time chatting and admiring the toddlerâs antics over tea and scones while sitting at your usual table by the bay window. Sometimes youâd have her accompany you to the patisserie to give Levi a much-deserved break.
Everyone there was enamored with the little firecracker. Her Uncle Miche had always been her favorite because the gentle giant ferried her around the large kitchen on his shoulders. Bertholdt and Reiner would happily comply to all the orders their mini boss belted out. Annie, although a little awkward around her, listened intently to her endless stories; Mikasa secretly pampered her with numerous treats even after several warnings from you, and Nanaba would fuss over her all the time and try to keep the little one all to herself, earning protests from the others.
The evenings varied between taking Luna to the park or the pier, or just spending time indoors at your place or his. You even celebrated her fourth birthday two weeks ago. All your friends and family, along with some little friends the birthday girl had made at the park were invited. You spent a beautiful evening in the backyard of your house around a bonfire, with a delectable meal and wonderful company.
Levi especially made sure you knew that you were being wooed by taking you out on date nights every now-and-then to the finest of restaurants, walks on the beach, to the drive-in theater a few miles outside your town, or star gazing from your favorite spot up the nearby hill. You both were working through your differences and had barely had any disagreements during the time spent together. Things were slowly falling in place; in fact, this newly re-built relationship with him felt much stronger than ever before.
The flashback ended when the wedding planner knocked on the door indicating it was time for the ceremony to begin. You, Isabel, and the other bridesmaids ushered Suki to her designated spot, making sure her dress, hair, make up and flowers looked perfect.
.
.
Standing at the altar by Furlanâs side as his best man, Levi was relieved that he would finally be seeing you soon after being apart all morning. Lately, the two of you spent most of your time together; and this sudden separation had him feeling restless.
On cue, the two harpists seated on either side of the rows began to play heavenly tune of âA Thousand Yearsâ by Christina Perry, a prompt for the brideâs party to start making their way towards the altar. He watched patiently as bridesmaids accompanied by groomsmen walked down the aisle, waiting for you to finally appear. He almost forgot to breathe when your form eventually entered the nave, walking a short distance behind Isabel and one of Furlanâs friends.
You wore the emerald gown from your encounter with him at the store four months ago, and looked a million times more beautiful this morning. Your usually open hair was tied into an elegant loose braid with some curly strands framing your face. The sun rays falling on your silhouette from the towering stained-glass windows of the church made you look like an angel descending solely upon him. He finally began breathing again when you smiled at him and mouthed âbreatheâ, after taking your position at the altar.
Levi only peeled his eyes away from you when Lunaâs giggles reverberated off the stone walls as she waddled down the aisle, scattering petals of baby pink roses, about the same shade has her chubby cheeks, on the ivory carpet. You wiped a stray tear rolling down your face as you both proudly watched her play the part of a flower girl with utmost perfection. Upon making it to the end, she ran to you and buried her face in your gown, suddenly feeling shy from the cheers and applause she received from the smitten guests.
You instantly scooped her up and held her close, letting her nuzzle into the crook of your neck, cooing sweet words of encouragement into her ears. Levi was so taken by this divine scene before him that he failed to notice the bride's much awaited walk down the aisle; surprised to directly find Suki standing at the altar, facing Furlan with her lips curved into the widest smile before his attention found you and Luna again.
He lost track of how long he was marveling at his two perfect girls for, until he felt an elbow harshly crash into his ribs, knocking the wind out of his lungs.
âIs this revenge for your wedding?â, Furlan frowned.
Levi blankly stared at him, having no clue what he was talking about
âRing, Levi!â, the fuming groom growled.
Oh, right. He pursed his lips in embarrassment melting under the scrutiny of the baffled guests while he handed over the ring that was in the safety of his blazerâs pocket. His eyes darted towards an alarmed Suki and silently apologized to her. Then his gaze moved back to you, an impish smirk on your face as you stared back at him, knowing exactly what was going on in his mind.
Fuck! Furlan was not going to let this go for a long time.
Luna had lost interest in the festivities midway through the nuptials and had fallen asleep in your arms. After the ceremony, when everyone began to make their way outside the chapel, Levi swiftly moved over to walk beside you and offered to carry the snoozing toddler. You groaned after her weight left your body, stretching your sore shoulders and aching back .
âStop that. You have no idea how hard it is to control myself from jumping your bones, especially when you look this gorgeous.â, Levi whispered in your ear, snaking an arm around your waist.
You glanced around awkwardly making sure his words did not fall on any prying ears and gave him a quick smack on the shoulder, trying to suppress the heat creeping up your neck.
.
.
Time skip â Evening
The wedding reception was underway. You sat at a table sipping lemonade, watching the newlyweds grooving to the beats of music being played by DJ Zeke. Levi swapped his usual glass of Macallan for a cup of ginger lemon tea; His reason being that his throat was sore from carrying out best man duties. But you knew he was just being supportive of your goal to stay off alcohol.
Erwin and Hange sat by the bar, socializing with Furlanâs Boss, Mr. Pyxis while Luna was busy playing duck-duck-goose with some new toddler friends she made at the venue. Levi needed to be physically restrained from ambushing Isabel who he had discovered slow dancing with the same groomsman that walked alongside her at the ceremony. Miche and Nanaba were spotted in a rare public embrace, dancing leisurely to the slow music; and your army of helpers consisting of Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Sasha, Connie, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie took the lead on setting up tables as yours and Leviâs patisserie and cafĂŠ were the official caterers for the evening.
The choice of DJ Zeke's next track brought a sparkle to your eyes. Your smile spread from ear to ear when âFly me to the Moon' by Frank Sinatra emanated from the speakers. You sang along and began swaying cheerfully in your seat to the melody.
âRemember, Levi? This was the song we had our first dance to at our wedding.â you reminisced; a nostalgic smile spread across your face.
âHow can I forget?â, he asked.
His eyes were unfocused, lost in memories of his own. He remembered how ethereal you looked in your white wedding dress. How your diamond jewelry shimmered under the spotlight, how you whispered honeyed words into his ears when he felt exceptionally uncomfortable dancing in public, how warm your hands felt wrapped around his body, how your breath tickled his neck. Heâd give anything just to go back and relive that moment.
You gaze was still lost among people enjoying themselves on the dance floor when a stretched-out hand entered your line of vision. Your eyes followed it to land on Leviâs face. A quirk in your eyebrows wordlessly asked him what this action meant.
âLet's dance.â, he said.
âYou, Levi Ackerman, are willingly asking me to dance? Did someone spike your tea?â You smirked, earning an eye roll from him.
âOi, brat! Letâs go before I change my mind.â
âOnly if you ask nicely.â
âMay I have this dance with you, my love?â
You accepted and the pair of you headed towards the dance floor. He gently pulled you close to him and firmly held on to your hand. His other hand wrapped firmly around your waist and you rested yours on his shoulder. You both moved to the slow rhythm in perfect harmony, as you drowned in those gorgeous blue-grey eyes. It felt like the world around you had dissolved and it was just the two of you and the music.
âYou look nice today. I see you bought the same gray suit you hated with a fiery passion.â, you teased.
âHow could I not after you said you liked it?â
You looked over his shoulder to Suki and Furlan flashing you a wide grin from across the dance floor. And so did Hange, Miche and Nanaba from over that the bar. Erwin gently raised his drink in your direction. The heat from the from the sudden metaphorical spot light you stood under was cooled by the kiss Levi planted on your cheek.
âDid I tell you how lucky I feel to have you?â, he whispered into your ear as while brushing strands of hair off your face.
âI could stand to hear it more often.â, You hid your blush by resting your forehead on his shoulder, feeling too shy to keep his gaze.
âIt's true. Youâre the most beautiful woman is this room tonight, scratch that, youâll be the most beautiful woman anywhere, any day; and I get the honor of calling you mine.â he cooed, drawing gentle circles on your back with his fingers.
âYouâre awfully talkative today!â, you lifted your head again to reveal a contagious coy smile spread across your lips.
âDonât be stupid. Iâve always been talkative.â,
âCome with me.â, he moved you off his chest and tugged at your hand.
âWhere?â, you asked in utter confusion, and a bit of annoyance at the wonderful moment being ruined, just to receive silence in response.
Levi quickly glanced over to find Luna munching on garlic bread sticks with Erwin and Hange, as he guided you away from the venue and towards the lake nearby. The ripples in the water gleamed under the moonlight, resembling liquid silver. Warm yellow light from the lamps on either side of a wooden dock dimly illuminated the path that led to a gorgeous gazebo that stood at the end, its ceiling sprinkled with fairy lights that defined the intricate floral carvings in the wood. You stood in the center of the structure and slowly spun around, marveling at the work of whose ever brilliant hands built it.
âLevi, this is stunning!â, you said gazing in all directions, running your fingers over the sophisticated engravings.
âYes, it is.â, Levi agreed, his eyes not on the architecture, but instead on the human embodiment of radiant sunny day that stood by his side.
Not remotely expecting anything to outshine the sight before you, your vision was captured by an extravagant display of red, green, and gold against the dark blanket of the nightâs sky. You jumped when the sound of the first soaring explosion caught you off guard. An arm slid across your waist and a kiss was placed on your temple. You were enamored by the shattering sparks of the fireworks, eliciting frequent oohs and aahs, until a voice snapped you out of your reverie.
âMarry me.â
It took you a few seconds to fully register what you just heard. But when you did, overwhelming feelings of joy rendered you speechless; fingers absentmindedly running over the carved railing of the gazebo, stunned orbs darting between the brilliant sky and the love of your life.
This time Levi had to remind you to breathe.
Your eyes and lips both turned into wide Os, and you slapped your hands to cover your gaping mouth when he slowly lowered himself to kneel before you, opening a little black box containing the same gorgeous ruby ring from all those years ago, which he sneaked out of your nightstand during one of his visits.
âI know that you said you wanted to take this slow. But the last four months with you have been the most precious of my life, where I got a glimpse of what having a perfect family would be like. I learnt the hard way, what I lost when I lost you and you gave me a second chance at finding happiness when you decided to come back. I promise to love and protect you every single day for the rest of my life, and even after. You complete me, love, and you complete our family. So, will you do me the honor of being Mrs. Ackerman, again?â
âLevi...â, your trembling voice was barely audible.
âYes.â, you breathed, letting the floodgates finally open when he slid the ring on your finger.
He got back on his feet and engulfed you into the tightest embrace as you wept joyous tears into his shoulders.
âI love you so much!â
âI love you too!â, moving to look into your eyes, he cupped your face with warm hands.
And finally, his lips found yours.
It felt... like home;
Like laying in a cozy bed after a long day of work, like the warm chocolate sauce on a cold scoop of ice-cream, like wearing a fuzzy sweater on a crisp autumn evening, like walking barefoot on the beach at sunset, like taking a cool shower on a blazing summer afternoon, like everything you ever needed.
After being torn apart from the one person who made your life perfect, you were finally back in the soothing confines of his strong arms, resting against his able chest, ready to fall apart; all while the fireworks in the sky mirrored the fireworks in your hearts.
âMama! Papa!â
You were awoken from this surreal euphoria by the most beautiful squeal you had ever heard. Both your heads turned towards the source of it â a tiny figure running towards you with all her might while all your near and dear ones including the newlyweds watched from a distance, cheering merrily.
âThey knew?â, you gasped, sobbing and sniffling from the joyous tears.
âYeah, pretty much everyone but you knew.â
Luna flew into Leviâs open arms when he bent down to receive her. The three of you merged into one blob of a positively smothering family hug, only pulling away to pepper each other with more kisses. Levi held his two girls close. His sun and moon were now back together in the sky of his life. He looked into Lunaâs crescent shaped eyes and whispered,
âMoon beam, Mamaâs coming home.â

The Cinnamon Series â Birthday đ
Chapter 4, part1
A/N: Hello 𼰠All I can say is that I really love this series and it means a lot to me so any feedback is MUCH MUCH APPRECIATED đĽ°âŁď¸ Have a beautiful weekend yâall âŁď¸
Summary: Angel plans a surprise for your birthday. This is part one of the Birthday chapter, part two will come early next week.
Warning: some sexual references, and sexual tension đ
A few days have passed since you agreed to go on a date with Angel, but your expected date hasn't happened yet. Angel said he wanted to plan the most perfect date ever, because thatâs what you deserve, and he needed to have the time for that.
It also didnât help that he was busy with the club, and he was glad if he could see you and talk to you everyday.
So Angel was very surprised when he stepped out of the clubhouse after a long meeting at Templo, lighting a cigarette as he did, and saw your sister standing on the yard.
Immediately, Angel panicked, he didnât know why ZoĂŤ was looking for him.
âWhatâs wrong?â Angel immediately asks your sister as he walks close to her.
âWell, hello to you too.â ZoĂŤ replies.
âDid something happen to Y/N?â
âCalmate, buddy. Sheâs fine.â ZoĂŤ reassured the biker, who let out the breath he didnât realise he was holding. âBut I came because of her.â
Angel nods, waiting for her to continue.
âYou better treat her right, Angel. She deserves endless love and happiness, and deserves to be treated right. If you think you canât be loyal to her, or any part of you is uncertain about being with her, then leave her alone. She doesnât need a heartbreak.â
Angel wasnât aware yet how protective ZoĂŤ was over you, but he definitely got a taste of it right now.
The truth is, Angel did have insecurities about being with you, he still thought that heâs not enough for you, and you deserve better, but despite the mean voices in his head, he couldnât keep himself away from you. Because during the time that Angel has spent with you, he forgot everything that was bothering him, the club business, his insecurities, his little brother sitting in prison, and his father who mostly ignores him. When you were by his side, all Angel could feel was calmness and joy, as you silenced his demons, and brought light into his life.
âI already promised her that I would treat her right.â Angel finally says âI donât plan on fucking this up.â
ZoĂŤ believed the biker, she saw the sincerity in his eyes, and that, for a while, calmed the girl down.
âShe has a birthday in a few days.â ZoĂŤ casually says, but she could see Angelâs eyes pop out of his head from the information. âYou didnât know?â
Angel shakes his head âNo.â
âYou better figure this one out, Reyes.â And with that, ZoĂŤ left.
Angel tried real hard to calm the panic that rushed over him. To be honest, neither of you shared this information with each other yet, so of course he didnât know about it. With his cigarette still lit, Angel sat down on one of the picnic benches, he needed some time to think and figure something out for your birthday.
After two more cigarettes, he finally had a plan.
Angel made sure that he organises everything before he goes and tells you about his plan. He was really proud of the idea for your birthday, and something told him that youâll absolutely love it. When he was ready, and talked to Bishop about it, he headed towards your shop.
âI feel guilty that I couldnât help as much as I promised.â He says as he steps into the shop, now almost fully ready for the opening.
âYou carried all the heavy stuff in, that was more than enough.â You smile at him as you walk up to the Mayan to wrap your arms around his middle. âWhat brings you here?â
Angel shrugs âWhat? I canât just come and see my girl?â He smirks down at you.
Butterflies form in your belly from how Angel is looking down at you, his words only adding to the effect. His eyes are so tender, so full with love, it makes you feel like the whole world stopped existing for that moment, it was only you and Angel.
You couldnât believe that he was looking down at you with this much love, and nothing has happened between the two of you yet, not even a kiss. This was a proof for you that Angel was into you, and he was serious about you.
âOf course you always can just come and see me.â You say, cheeks flushed.
Angel gently cupped your cheek in his hands, his skin felt rough against yours, the warmness of him and the cold of his rings making a contrast.
âI have a surprise for you.â He says sweetly, leaning down to teasingly brush his nose against yours. The gesture makes you smile, and his words make you nervous and curious at the same time.
âFor your birthday.â Angel says before you could say anything.
âHow do youâŚZoĂŤâŚâ
âWell, Iâm glad at least one of you told me.â Angel teases.
âI didnât think it was important.â You move your gaze from his to his shirt, avoiding eye contact with him.
âOf course itâs important! Everything about you is important!â Angel insists, lifting your chin up so youâre looking him in the eyes again.
âYouâre very important to me.â He says tenderly âAnd this is why Iâm taking you away.â
âTaking me away to where?â You asked confused.
âTo a small vacation. Thatâs all I can tell.â Angel teases.
You open your mouth to say something, but almost immediately close it.
âThatâs what I thought too.â Angel says before you could think of a reply. âYouâll love it!â
Two days later
You close your eyes as the warm summer air coming from the rolled down car window hits your face, filling your lungs with sunshine as you inhale deeply.
Angelâs equally warm, rough hand with cold metal rings are resting on your naked thigh under your summer dress, making your heart rate go up, but you try your best to hide it from him.
Turning your head away from the window, you look at him, your companion.
His right arm decorated with black ink is reached out to you, his thumb lazily rubbing circles on your leg, making you want to jump out of your skin. His eyes are behind the dark sunglasses, his focus is on the road, or it seems like it is. But his heart is beating just as fast as yours, hands tingling where he touches your soft skin, filling him with excitement.
Angel still hasn't shared where heâs exactly taking you, he only casually told you to pack a swimwear, followed by a cheeky wink.
âWe have to stop at the next gas station, querida.â Angel snaps you out of your thoughts.
âMmhm, okay.â You say, closing your eyes again.
Around a half hour later Angel parked the car down at a gas station.
You step out of the car, stretching your now sore muscles.
âWhy donât you go and grab some snacks while I fill the car?â Angel asks as he starts filling the tank.
âAre you in the mood for anything specific?â
Angel looks you up and down with a smirk on his face. He licks his lips as he says âI can think of a few things.â
His gaze is intense as flickers over your body, his words making you gasp lightly, but you can feel it affect you. Heat grows between your legs, and excitement rushes over you.
The biker has an effect on you that no one else had before, and you havenât even kissed him yet. And youâre about to spend several days alone with him in a hotel.
âGod, Angel.â You snort before you walk into the shop.
You quickly go to the bathroom, fixing yourself a bit in the mirror. You inhale deeply as you take a look at yourself in the mirror, and start to think. You know Angel for roughly three months now, and your feelings for the biker are deeper than anything youâve ever felt. From the first time you felt comfortable, and safe around Angel which was a surprise to you since it took you a long time to feel this comfortable around anyone. But there was something in Angel that calmed you, and you could freely be yourself, just like how Angel could only be himself around you.
His plan to take you away somewhere for your birthday surprised you, but now that youâre on the road with him youâre really glad that you didnât say no to this. Youâre very looking forward spending this time with him, and only him. And youâre ready to bring your relationship forward.
Stepping out of the bathroom, you start grabbing a few snacks, chocolates, and some drinks for both you and Angel.
âGonna use the bathroom, then Iâll pay and we can go.â Angel passes by you in the shop. You note his statement with a nod as you keep walking around the small shop at the gas station.
âDo you want one?â You ask Angel when he gets back to you, pointing at the ice creams. He shakes his head no, but you grab one for yourself, your favourite.
After Angel paid for the gas and the snacks, you walk back to the car hand in hand, Angel gently squeezing yours before he lets it go so he can open the car door for you.
Your eyes lock in that minute when you wrap your mouth around the tip of the ice cream, Angelâs eyes quickly shifts to your lips. The biker licks his lips as he watches you suck the sweet into your mouth, the sight making him throb in his pants. You notice the shift in his eyes, so you decide to tease him a little more as you visibly run a circle around the tip of the ice cream with your tongue.
âDo you want a taste?â You ask innocently, batting my eyelashes at him.
âIâd like to.â Angel replies with a raspy voice that makes shivers run down your spine.
You take a step closer to him as you sucked the frozen sweet into your mouth, making sure that the taste is on your lips as you stand up on your tiptoes to kiss Angel on the lips.
It was quick, just a peck, but it set your body on fire, and you suddenly wanted more.
You actions took Angel by surprise, heâs so shocked that before he could register whatâs happening, it was already over. But he licked his lips in response, tasting the ice cream on his lips, wishing it was your taste that tingled on his taste buds.
âNow, câmon! We're never gonna get there if you just stand there!â You tell Angel as you sit back into the car.
Angel shakes his head, trying to get back the blood into it, before he too sits back into the car.
This is going to be a long few days.

Chapter 5
âI think Iâd rather eat bugs with Geezer Sage,â Naruto complained with a groan.Â
After leaving Kakashiâs office following their lengthy conversation about her new mission, Sakura sought out her yellow-haired friend only to find him face down in the grass beside the river. He was fast asleep, drool pooling on top of the textbook he was using as a makeshift pillow. With a disapproving click of her tongue, sheâd woken him up with a swift kick to his side before chastising him about not focusing on his studies.
âYouâre going to be a terrible Hokage with that attitude.â Sakura pointed an accusing finger at him with her other hand on her hip.
Naruto groaned again as he pushed himself to his feet, his eyes still squinting slightly from sleep. He yawned and scratched the back of his head. âNice to see you too, Sakura,â he said sarcastically.
Sakura rolled her eyes and feigned anger at him before breaking into a wide grin. She reached out and pulled him into a fierce embrace which he returned with just as much fervor. As much as he got on her nerves, Naruto was one of the people she had missed the most when she was away. She didnât realize how much she relied on his endless energy to lighten her mood and she found herself wishing he was there to annoy her with his enthusiastic rambling after long shifts at the hospital. The man was truly the embodiment of sunshine, both in outward appearance and personality.Â
âSayâŚyou wouldnât want to treat an old friend and your future Hokage to some ramen now, would you?â He said when they parted. His teeth were clamped together in a toothy grin as he held up two fingers to form a peace sign.
Sakura scoffed and flicked his forehead with her middle finger, putting more force behind it than she intended. âYou know, if you keep that up you might die from ramen poisoning before you get to be Hokage.â
âOi, youâre always so violent, you knowâ Naruto said rubbing his forehead, a red welt now forming there. Upon seeing the woman shoot him a glare, he quickly waved his hands in front of her.Â
âNâno what I meant was youâre always so strong and beautiful and uhhââ he grabbed the back of his neck, ââdid I mention beautiful?â
âNice save,â Sakura rolled her eyes and she walked away.Â
âYou coming, or what?â She called back when she looked over her shoulder and found her yellow-haired teammate still standing where she left him.
âNot if youâre going to flick me again.â
âAlright, guess Iâll have ramen by myself then!â She took off running towards Ichiraku and disappeared over the grassy hill, laughing loudly as she heard Naruto curse and shout at her to wait as he scrambled to gather his things and follow her.
***
â Seriously?â Naruto exclaimed in disbelief as he listened to Sakura recount her run-in with Sasuke. âI canât believe that bastard didnât even try to wait around to see if you were okay.â
Sakura squirmed in her seat as his words, finding that it stung a little when they were spoken out loud.
âTo be fair, I wouldnât stick around either if I had that many people coming after me,â she replied.
âI guess so, but he could have at least tried to wait after all youâve done for him,â Naruto stated, shaking his head disapprovingly.
âHe doesnât owe me anything, Naruto.â Her voice came out a little more dejected than she wanted it to, but it was true. Sasuke was her friend and no matter what she did for him, she would never expect anything in return. She had changed a lot from the girl who used to beg him to love her. These days, she only cringed each time the memories resurfaced.
âYouâre a good friend, you know that?â Naruto eyed her with a soft expression, likely picking up on the disappointment in her tone. âAnd that Sasuke has always been terrible at socializing so heâd never say it, but I know that he thinks so too.â
âThank you, Naruto. Youâre a good friend too.â She reached out to gently pat the side of his cheek.
With a smile, Naruto turned to face forward in his bar stool once again and proceeded to continue scarfing down the rest of his ramen at an inhuman speed. Sakura had to fight the urge to reach out and slap the back of his head and scold him for eating so messily. But she only smiled affectionately as she watched the way he never stopped grinning even when his mouth was filled with food, his cheeks puffed out and making him look ridiculous. She really did miss this idiot.Â
Once they finished their mealsâwith Naruto eating two bowls of ramen before Sakura told him, to his dismay, that she wasnât going to pay for a thirdâthe duo walked side by side until they reached a bridge. The sun was beginning to set now, leaving a golden glow on the village landscape.Â
They had been walking in comfortable silence for several minutes as Sakura took in the familiar sights around her: the old lady at the fruit stand who was always grumpy unless you asked her about strawberries, the quiet rustling leaves of Konohaâs many trees, and finally, her eyes fell upon the Hokage Rock for the first time since coming home. She focused on two faces as she smiled, the faces of the two people she looked up to the most in the world: Tsunade and Kakashi.
âWhat did you talk to Kakashi about for so long?â Naruto finally broke their silence, his eyes following her gaze until it rested on their ex-teacherâs face carved on the side of the mountain. They were both standing on the bridge, leaning their elbows against the railing that overlooked the water below.
When Sakura only looked at him questioningly, his eyes met hers again as he tapped his temple with a finger. âIno,â he stated simply.
âAh,â she answered in recognition. Of course, Ino would have told him where she was as soon as she sensed Sakura in the village. Thanks to the Yamanaka Mind Body Transmission Jutsu, the sensory kunoichi was able to send messages to virtually anyone within range by simply channeling her thoughts directly into their mind.
âNothing much, just catching up since we havenât seen each other in a while,â Sakura averted her gaze and studied the water. She could feel the blond watching her. She had neglected to tell him about her upcoming mission and her discoveries about Sasukeâs attackers during their earlier conversation at the ramen stand, fearing that the notion of a comrade betraying them would hurt him.Â
Heavy silence followed and Sakura could hardly hear anything over the nervous beating of her own heart. She hated lying to him but she also knew that he would try to convince her not to do it and she couldnât handle that conversation right now. She couldnât stand the sight of his expression, riddled with worry.
âYouâre a terrible liar, you know.â Narutoâs voice was barely above a whisper and sounded sad. Hurt.Â
âNaruto, IâŚâ She trailed off, unsure of what to say next. She cursed silently. He knew her too well and it was no use lying to him. For several minutes, the friends stood in silence, both studying the reflection of their shadows in the water as if it were the most interesting thing in the world. She decided then that although the mission was classified, it shouldnât include him. Besides, if anyone understood her complicated feelings towards Sasuke and who could understand why she had to be the one assigned to this mission, it would be Naruto.
âItâs not good news,â she finally continued, breaking the heavy stillness that settled between them.Â
âIâm going to be Hokage, remember? The villageâs burdens are also mine to bear.â
Sakuraâs head shot up to face him, her lips parted slightly in surprise. She knew Naruto was capable of being serious, sheâd seen it many times before and especially during the War. But it was still strange to see him with such a solemn look, speaking with such a grave tone.Â
âWe think someone in the village is responsible for the bounty on Sasuke and that theyâre supplying the hunters with Jonin weapons from Konoha. Weâre launching the mission in two days.â She paused to gauge his expression.
âNot a lot of people have access to those weapons, right?â He stated it like a question but Sakura knew that he was smart and he knew exactly what she was going to say next.
âYes. So unless someone has managed to sneak into the Hokage Tower, which we both know is impossibleâŚâ She could barely get herself to speak the next words. âWe think itâs someone we know.âÂ
Sakura watched him carefully as the words spilled from her tongue. He was still facing the water, his eyes unblinking as he stood perfectly still. But she could see his mind reeling from the way his hands were clasped tightly together, the muscles in his arms and shoulders tense.Â
She continued to observe him as his eyes traveled from the river below to his right prosthetic arm, wrapped in white bandages. Undoubtedly, his thoughts were wandering back to Sasuke who only a few years ago had also betrayed the village, vowing to murder his friends and break their bonds. A lot of time has passed since then and all has been forgiven, but Sakura knew it would take more time before all could be forgotten.
When he finally turned to look at her, agonizingly slow, she felt an uncomfortable and almost painful sensation settle in the pit of her stomach. With his blue eyes meeting hers, she could see the intensity of the emotions they held. Disbelief and anguish were clearly displayed in his features, seeming so out of place against his usual happy demeanor. Her chest ached at the sight.Â
âI see,â his voice was gruff and scarily low. He averted his eyes once again, focusing unseeingly on something in the distance.Â
Hesitantly, Sakura reached out and twined her fingers with his, gripping tightly. Without looking at her, he returned the squeeze, both acknowledging her efforts to comfort him and also signaling that he was doing the same for her.Â
For a long while, the two friends stood just like that, taking solace in each otherâs presence. The sun was gone now, leaving moonlight to illuminate the still water in its place. From the corner of her eyes, Sakura watched Naruto silently as he continued his thousand-yard stare into the darkness. No matter how much they wanted it to, the calm and cool night air could bring them both no comfort as they braced themselves for the treachery that was yet to be unveiled.

When Clary meets Ash (Fan Fic)
Hey :) this is how I imagine Clary and Ash's reunion (after the events of TDA) in the fic I am currently writing.
It's Chapter 5 of "The new Shadowhunter Academy" (Ao3 link to the full fic is here but don't click or skip Chapter 4 if you are not in for Kitty sexy times).
Thanks to @amchara for providing beta work and to @blaidr for letting me bounce my ideas off him.
To give you context, Ash met Dru in Faerie and they exchanged their numbers. Clary seized the opportunity to obtain Ash's number from Dru and write him the following text message:
âHey, Ash. Dru gave me your number and please donât be angry with her, I am very strong headed and there was absolutely no way she could have refused. I am Clary. You may have heard of me. I am your late fatherâs sister. Thatâs right, your aunt. You can call me whatever you like. Emma told me what you did in Thule, how you saved her. How you saved everyone. That was very brave of you. In a way, both of us were faced with a very difficult choice and made the same. Doing what we thought was right. I would love to meet you and tell you about my mother â your grandmother â or just talk about anything. It can be things totally unrelated to the Shadow world. Hobbies, movies, books and games we like. You can pick the time and place. Neutral territory. Hope to see you soon. Clary.â
This is what happens following the text:
*****
Clary wrapped her oversized woolen coat tighter around herself, as she made her way through the crowded streets of Manhattan. The route was familiar. She took it almost every week to meet up with her parabatai and have what they called their âmundane hourâ. They talked about everything, from Claryâs art to the latest TV shows they had binge watched. No topic was off the table, save for anything related to Shadowhunter duties, and the Shadow world in general. As co-head of the New York Institute and since recently, artist owning her own gallery, her weeks were very busy so she looked forward to those rare and precious moments when she could escape with Simon. Her heart rate seemed to accelerate with each of her steps, and it didnât help that she also had the strange feeling she was being observed. When she reached her destination, she took a deep breath and opened the double glass doors leading her inside the coffee shop. She and Simon had their regular routine there, and her gaze went automatically to their usual spot, near the large windows.
A broad-shouldered jock with a baseball jacket was already sitting there, speaking loudly to his cheerleader girlfriend. Two of his friends were standing next to him, mock punching his muscular arms. It made her realize that Ash probably never had this. High school friends and romance. Ash. She was still struggling to figure out why he had asked her to meet up at this place, at the exact time she usually got there with Simon. Was it him being considerate, a clumsy way to make her feel comfortable in familiar surroundings? Or was it a warning? I know your habits, and precisely where you take your coffee, when and with whom.
Her gaze swept over the crowded room - her heart seemed to have moved up her throat, the frantic pulse almost choking her - and zeroed on a tall, white blond haired boy ordering coffee at the counter, standing with his back to Clary. She sucked in a breath. Ash. He was fully clothed in black - Dru had told her that was his usual style - and huge headphones were covering his ears. She slowly and cautiously approached him and when she was close enough, put a tentative hand on his elbow. âAsh,â she whispered. The boy glanced over his shoulder, his blue eyes quizzical and⌠it was not Ash.
She mumbled an apology.
âClary,â said a voice coming from behind, and she froze. It was not a boyâs but a manâs voice, the sound beautiful and ethereal. She just stood there for a few seconds before she slowly turned.
What had she expected? Merely a taller version of the young boy with pointy ears and a sour expression that she had met three years before, dressed in the same refined velvet clothing threaded with gold that identified him as fey royalty?
If so, she had clearly been mistaken.
She blinked a few times to make sure her mind wasnât playing tricks. He was tall, as she had anticipated (Sebastian had been after all). At least two heads taller than her and probably taller than Jace. But he was also very different from the Ash of her memories, from the sketches she had drawn of him after they had crossed paths. He had amazingly grown into his features, his face now the best combination of the Seelie Queen and Sebastianâs. As if he had picked the most alluring colours of the palette. And the result was⌠Stunning. Claryâs hand twitched, aching for a pencil.
He was not dressed in black, but in plain blue jeans and he had stuffed his hands in a very elegant, long pale gray cashmere coat. His white blond hair and pointy ears were concealed under a deep green beanie, the same colour as the scarf around his neck.
He arched a silvery eyebrow at Clary, his expression bemused, and she realized she was staring.
âClary, seriously?â he said, his gently scolding tone at odds with his enchanting voice. âThis guy isn't even half as good looking as me." He glanced pointedly at the patron in question, who was gaping at him, and shrugged. "No offense, dude,â Ash added as an afterthought.
He turned his attention to the barista. She was beautiful, dark skinned with long braided hair and pouty lips. âHello, gorgeous. Weâll have a double espresso with oat milk and a dash of cinnamon for the lady and a plain black coffee for me.â
Clary stifled a gasp and tried to hide her discomfort. He knew exactly how she took her coffee, and she didnât know how she felt about this.
The pretty barista nodded eagerly, her cheeks red and her big dark eyes dreamy as she stared at Ash. âWhy donât you⌠Go sit at your table and Iâll bring you your beverages when they are ready?â the girl offered enthusiastically. The long line of patrons that had formed behind Clary and Ash would probably disagree but she didnât seem to care.
âThat would be lovely,â Ash said in his euphonious voice. âAnd so are you.â He winked at her, and Clary wondered if she would need to catch her while she swooned. He paid before Clary even had a chance to reach for her purse.
âCome,â he said in a commanding tone, as he made his way to Clary and Simon's usual table. This was unnerving.
The jock seated there paused in the middle of his conversation with his girlfriend when he saw Ash stand casually next to him. Clary braced herself for a heated exchange, but she should have known better.
âYou want to sit somewhere else,â Ash said evenly, one hand inside the pocket of his designer coat and the other stretched out in front of him as he studied his fingernails.
âI want to sit somewhere else,â the jock repeated in a monotonous voice, his gaze blank. He stood, as if in a trance, and his girlfriend and friends followed him, puzzled, to an empty table at the far end of the room.
Ash drew a chair for Clary and she sat. He did the same, opposite her. He pulled off his beanie, and shook his silvery hair, like a crown of liquid white gold. He wasnât dressed for the part but he had never looked more like a prince.
âAsh⌠please donât do that.â
âDo what?â
âYour mind tricks.â
He cocked his head and observed her, his face unreadable, for what seemed like an endless minute.
âYouâve been my aunt for what? Five minutes? And youâre already trying to boss me around?â
âI am not trying to boss you around, Ash. Simply asking you not to abuse your powers.â
A shadow flickered across his green eyes.
âIâll let you in on a secret, Clary. I spend much more time and energy holding back than using my powers. If I did let go, trust me, you would know.â
Clary opened her mouth to reply but was cut short as the barista popped in front of them and placed the mugs on the table. She slid a paper napkin to Ash, her phone number scribbled on it. Clary tried not to roll her eyes, as Ash flashed his dazzling smile at the girl, who almost tripped on her own feet as she returned to the counter.
Clary lifted her cup to her lips and paused, as she caught sight of the cinnamon powder floating on the surface. She put it down.
âWhat about this?" She pointed at her coffee mug and waved around them. â What is it, if not a show of power? What are you trying to tell me? That you know everything about me? That youâve been spying on me?â
Ash pulled on a fake shocked expression, mouth open and green eyes wide in mock innocence. âSpying on you? What are you talking about?â
âCome on, Ash. The evidence is right here.â She lifted her cup abruptly, and hot liquid splashed out of it. âYou know exactly how I like it. When I take it, where I take it.â
Ashâs mouth twitched. âWhere did you pick up these lines? From the script of some lame X-rated movie?â
âAdult movies have storylines?â Clary asked, arching her eyebrows.
âOf course they do. Where do you think the Grimm Brothers took their inspiration from?â
He grabbed the paper napkin and started mopping the coffee she had spilled on the table. The blue ink faded and the baristaâs phone number vanished.
âYou lost that girlâs number,â Clary noted.
Ash shrugged. âI have a girlfriend now.â
Right. Drusilla Blackthorn. From the moment she had met her, Clary had known that the smart and quiet turquoise-eyed girl would someday turn heads.
Clary knew that Dru hadnât really confirmed their relationship status yet, but it was neither the time nor place to broach the subject with Ash. She was, after all, on a mission to win over her nephew and had not been doing a very good job so far.
A young lanky boy with pink hair and piercings covering his skin walked by and dropped a glossy flyer of the upcoming Mortal Instruments concert on the table between them. Clary hid a smile. It reminded her...
âI have something for you.â She said as she fumbled inside her bag and took out the drawing she had made of Jocelyn, Luke and herself, in front of Lukeâs upstate farm (before it was turned into the new Shadowhunter Academy) and laid it on the table.
Ash looked at it hesitantly, like a kid who really wanted to grab the candy but was afraid there was a mouse trap under it. He hunched his shoulders forward and clasped his hands under the table, as if to keep himself from temptation.
âI recognize your art. I like it. I also appreciate Julian Blackthornâs but I may not be as objective where⌠one of the subjects of his drawings is concerned.â
âYouâve seen my art?â
He leaned back on his chair, crossing his long arms behind his head. Somehow, he managed to make it look graceful.
âWhich Shadowhunter hasnât? I noticed that you often drew Jace with angel wings.â
âYes. Thatâs how he used to appear to me. In recurring dreams.â
âWas it?â
âWas it what?â
âJace. In your dreams.â
âWho else would it be?â
âSomeone who looks like him, but who actually has wings.â
âYou mean Kit.â
Ash shrugged. âIt would make more sense.â His gaze flickered back to the drawing, which still lay on the table, untouched. âYou look a lot like your mom.â
âSo do youâ, Clary blurted before she could take it back.
Ash shot her an unfathomable look.
âHow is she?â She asked.
âYou mean, the Seelie Queen? You tell me. You must see her more often than I do.â
âWell, not really. I am not that involved in politics, even though Alec is Consul. Julian Blackthorn is the one who deals with her most of the time. She appears to have... a fondness for him.â
âWho doesnât?â
Claryâs mouth quirked up.
âI am glad you are getting along with the Blackthorns. They are such an incredibly strong and talented family.â
âThey are.â He turned his face away, but not before she could see the expression of longing plain on his delicate features.
She swallowed. She was painfully reminded that Ash never had a shot at a happy family. Born of a political union, and dragged here and there, though interdimensional portals, by people more interested in his powers than anything else he had to offer as a person. And judging by how Dru talked about Ash, he had a lot to offer.
âI imagine it must have been awful living in Thule⌠But what you did for Emma and Julian back there... if it hadnât been for youâŚâ
âI donât want to talk about Thule,â he interrupted her. âCan I borrow this?â He asked, his long fingers brushing the Mortal Instruments concert flyer.
âSure.â
She watched as he started folding the paper, realizing with a jolt of surprise that he was making an origami and wondering what shape would come out of it. It was odd seeing him doing such an innocuous thing, as if he was not a faerie prince with a heavy heritage and a giant target on his back, but an ordinary boy. She remembered what Emma had told her of her encounter with Ash in a nightclub in Thule. The way he had shown no interest, playing a video game in a corner of the room, while Sebastian was committing atrocities. Had he really been as indifferent as he looked?
âAsh, we donât need to talk about Thule if you donât want to, but if I can help you⌠If there is anything I can do-â
âWhy?â He looked up sharply. âAre you able to create a rune that could undo the things I saw?â His tone was even, but his delicate fingers had started slightly shaking and he suddenly dropped the paper - his work unfinished - to fold his hands under the table to hide it. From that moment, she knew.
âNoâŚâ Clary said, drawing the word out. âBut trust me, coming from someone whose memory has been tampered with... itâs not a solution.â
âI said undo. Not forget.â He snapped. âI am not such a coward that I would choose blissful ignorance over knowledge.â
He caught himself, blinking, then clenched his jaw and looked away. As if he was ashamed he had allowed himself to show any emotion at all. But Clary had managed to catch a glimpse of what lay underneath the mask and wanted nothing more than to see the rest of it.
âI donât think you are a coward,â she said.
He looked over at her, a silver eyebrow raised. âI let it all happen, didnât I? I didnât lift a finger.â
âBecause you couldnât. Sebastian would have killed you. And you, Ash, are just like me. A survivor.â
He snorted and crossed his arms in front of him, leaning back on his chair. He had stretched out his long legs and Clary realized that he was tapping a foot nervously next to hers.
âWrong. I could have. I chose not to. Because I am selfish. I donât care about other peopleâs fate.â
His face split into a lazy, wicked grin. Clary could see Sebastianâs influence in his leer, but she wouldn't let it deceive her. Just as she wasn't fooled by his laid-back demeanor.
âI think itâs the opposite, actually. I think itâs because you care too much. Itâs not death you are afraid of. The thing is, you have such a tender heart, you need to protect it from an affliction far greater than any physical pain you could endure. So youâd rather lie to yourself and pretend you feel nothing.â
From the long conversations she had with Tessa about her ancestors, Clary knew of a Fairchild boy who had been too compassionate for his own good. And he had been surrounded by loyal friends and loving parents, even though he had shut himself, putting on a facade while burying his grief in alcohol. Ash never had that kind of support. Throughout his life, he was left to figure things out on his own. If he was as empathetic as Clary thought he was, Ash probably had no other choice but to deal with his sensitivity alone. It was a miracle he had turned out the way he did.
âYou have a lot of imagination,â he said after a moment. The ghost of a smile was still playing on his lips but something had passed across his eyes. âThen again, you are an artist. You seek beauty in the ugly. You find colors on a blank page. I admire your faith, but in this case, there is nothing to see.â
Clary jutted her chin stubbornly and they held each otherâs gaze - his green eyes glittering in amusement and hers dead serious - in a staring contest.
âStill,â he said when he finally broke, first. âI shouldnât have lashed out at you. I am sorry.â
Clary softened. âDonât be. I am glad you are finally showing your true self. You donât need to wear your mask around me, Ash.â
He chuckled. âMan is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.â
âItâs funny that you would quote Oscar Wilde.â
âAnd why is that?â
She shrugged. âJust another thing you share in common with a Fairchild I heard stories about.â
âClary,â he said in a gently reproving tone. Her name sounded like a caress in his melodious voice. âAre you being purposefully cryptic to arouse my curiosity?â
She moved closer, so she was sitting at the edge of her chair, and leaned forward, hands folded over the table.
âIf you show me yours, Iâll show you mine,â she whispered. âLet me in. Shed all pretense.â
âI canât promise you that,â he whispered back in confidence, leaning closer still so that their faces were inches from each other. âItâs like fabric that burns and melts into skin. If you peel it off, the skin goes with it.â He grimaced, reclining on his chair. âIt wonât be a pretty sight. I donât think even my level of hotness could sustain it.â
âAshâŚâ Clary said, sensing that she finally had an opening to say what she had been brooding over ever since she had learnt of Ashâs return from that forsaken land. âI wanted to tell you⌠I am sorry.â
Ashâs green eyes widened.
âSorry for what?â
âI should have looked for you. I should not have given up on you.â
Ashâs jaw clenched and he looked away. âDonât,â he said through gritted teeth. âYou donât owe me anything.â
âI do. Seb-...Ash, we...â
âWhat did you just call me?â He snarled. His eyes snapped back to her, suddenly cold as ice.
âSorry, Ash. What I meant to say is⌠we are family."
âI already have a family.â
âI know that you care about JanusâŚâ
âI donât want to talk about him,â he cut her off.
âAnd we donât need to. I just wanted you to know⌠I understand that heâs been like a father to you, and I donât plan on moving against him, unless he strikes first or makes it impossible for me to overlook his actions.â
âBecause of me?â
âOf course, because of you.â
âWhy are you telling me this?â
âAsh⌠You are my nephew, my blood. You may not feel the same way about me, but thatâs how I feel about you. I want you to know that, if things go wrong, for any reason, you can always turn to me. My home is your home.â
âWhat you are actually telling me is, Ash, if I kill the one person who has ever really cared about you - and it might definitely come to that - you can always grab my hand, still sticky and warm from his blood. Well, how nice of you. To quote Oscar Wilde again, true friends stab you in the front.â
âThatâs not what I am-â
âClary,â Ash interrupted as he stood. âDo not make me choose between you and him. BecauseâŚâ Looking down at her, he swallowed hard, as if the words pained him. âBecause you will lose.â
She knew exactly what he was telling her. Because they were the same in that way. Ruthless, even with their own blood, when it came to protecting their loved ones. If I had to choose between killing him and you, I would not hesitate. I would end you. Yet, despite his cold statement, despite his sharp and resolved tone, his eyes seemed to carry a deep regret.
âAsh, I understand what you're saying and I swear I am not trying to make you pick a sideâ, Clary said, suddenly desperate, as she mirrored him and stood. âPlease donât go. I am sorry I brought it up. We will stop talking about him. Starting now.â
âThis was a bad idea. Never try to contact me again.â He drew his green beanie from the pocket of his coat and put it back on. He turned and strode toward the exit. She grabbed the family drawing that still lay on the table, stuffed it in her bag and followed him, half-running, as he was quickly losing here with his long legs.
âAsh! Please. Give me another chance. I am so sorry.â
He paused right outside the coffee shop, closed his eyes and sighed. âDonât be. It didnât change what I had planned to tell you anyway. I donât want to know anything about you or your mother. I donât want to have anything to do with either of you.â
âI donât think thatâs true,â she said, and he whipped his head around to look at her in surprise. âI know you were under house arrest. You probably had to break out of whichever place they were holding you in to come here. You wouldnât have done that unless you wanted something. Something from me. Tell me, Ash. Tell me what it is.â
He turned his face away so she could not see his expression. A full minute passed and she had almost given up on receiving an answer, when he finally spoke.
âMy fa⌠Sebastian. How different do you think he would have been if not for the demon blood?â
âOh. Ash.â she whispered. She brought her knuckle against her sternum instinctively, as if to cover the gaping whole in her chest. âI saw him, you know. The brother I should have had. The father that should have raised you. If only for a few minutes.â She paused to bite back tears. âIn those few minutes, he told us how to get rid of the Endarkened and said he was sorry. Itâs not much to go for, but⌠thatâs not all. I have recurring dreams of the green eyed boy that was robbed from us. And I know in my heart he would have been the best brother a sister could ever dream of.â
He was still looking away and she could see the sharp line, the stubborn set of his jaw. She wanted to hug him, to tell him she would not fail him again. That they could mourn her brother, his father, together. That he didnât need to bear the anger at everything that was wasted alone.
He finally turned to look at her. A tear had escaped to run freely down his cheek. He had completely shed off his mask, and what Clary saw was like a stab in her gut. She shivered. Wordlessly, he reached for his deep green scarf and tied it gingerly around her neck. The way Sebastian had when they had walked down the streets of Paris. Ash looked nothing like her brother had then. His green eyes held an infinite sadness that spoke of a grief deeper, older than the short years of his life.
âIt doesnât change anything.â He said - she hadnât imagined his beautiful voice could sound so hollow - and turned to leave.
âAsh, wait.â She grabbed him by the elbow and he froze. His eyes widened as his gaze zeroed on the fingers covering his coat, as if he couldnât quite believe what he was seeing. She realized she had never touched him before.
âClary, what do you want from me?â He asked in a tired voice.
âI just want to get to know you.â
âTrust me, you donât. I am not the brother who was stolen from you. I cannot replace him. If anything, I am just like Sebastian was before me... my fatherâs broken toy. There is no way to fix me.â
âI donât believe it for a second,â she said, almost frantic. âAnd I donât want to find my brother's replacement, I want to get to know you! Ash. The real Ash.â
âI already told you. Thatâs not happening. Donât ever try to contact me again. I am serious.â
âSo thatâs it?â She tried not to sound too whiny but panic was eating away at her stomach and she thought she would throw up. âYou went through all this trouble spying on me, learning how I take my coffee to simply disappear from my life from one moment to the next?â
He gazed at her for a moment, his expression unfathomable. It seemed like an eternity before he finally spoke.
âI was not spying on you, Clary. I was merely following your stalker.â
âWhat? You were⌠protecting me?â
âTake care of yourself, Clary.â
He said as he stepped away from her and vanished into the crowd.
****
Clary threw herself in Jaceâs arms as soon as he opened the door to their bedroom at the New York Institute. He froze, then started stroking her hair in a soothing gesture.
âClary, what happened? Is everything okay?â
âNo,â she said, her voice muffled against his chest.
âTell me, Clary. What is it?â
She pulled away and wiped tears with the back of her hand. Jaceâs face was a mask of shock. Clary couldnât blame him. She almost never cried.
âI messed up.â
âWhat did you mess up?â
She walked to the bed and sat on the mattress. She took a deep breath, bracing herself for his reaction. âAsh. I met up with him earlier today.â
Jace tensed and his hands clenched into fists. âWHAT- Why didnât you tell me?â
âBecause you would have insisted on coming.â
âDamn right, I would have. And I would have been right, too. Look at you, you look miserable.â
âItâs my fault,â she said in a small voice. âI pushed him too far.â
Jace sighed and came to sit next to her, putting a comforting arm around her shoulder. âI am sure you did nothing wrong, Clary.â
âI thought- When I showed him the drawing⌠the way he looked at it, Jace. He is not indifferent. He cares.â
âWhat drawing?â
âThe one I made of the family,â she said absently, as she grabbed her bag and started fumbling inside.
She sucked in a sharp breath. The drawing wasnât there. Peeking out in its stead, and folded out of the flyer of the Mortal Instruments concert, were origami faerie wings. The Fairchild family symbol.

Glimpses: Part 8 (Kathryn Hahn x Fem!Reader)
Part 1 // previous chapter <<< >>> next chapter
Summary: Babysteps are taken.
Word Count: 1,8k
A/N: Hey yâall! I am really sorry it took me a while to get to this but tbh life hasn't been the easiest since Iâve last posted. I hope you all enjoy this chapter, even though it turned out completely different than I had anticipated. Definitely plan to throw another chapter your way this week. Weâll see :)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Her soft lips move against yours as Kathrynâs hand finds her way into your hair. She pulls you closer and it seems like she wants to deepen the kiss, but before she gets any chance to do so, you break the contact.
âKathrynâŚâ, both of you are panting and you have to hold on to her upper thigh to steady yourself. You take in a deep breath as she looks at you with widened eyes, while a worried look is creeping onto her face. She immediately lets go of your neck. Still panting, she tries to form words.
âSweetheart, I⌠I am so sorry! I⌠Oh my god!â Her eyes widen and she removes herself completely from you and puts a few more inches in between the two of you. âIs thisâŚ? Did weâŚ? Are you okay?â
You nod, slowly, because you need time to process. What struck you and made you speechless wasnât the fact that she kissed you in the first place, no, you are absolutely confused by her harsh reaction to the occurring situation. You look at her, eyes wide open, as she is sitting way too far away from you and looks at you like something horrible has happened.
âKathryn, hey, I AM okay. Very much so, stop worrying. All is good!â You take her hand in yours. âI⌠I loved this. This is everything I have ever dreamed ofâŚâ âBut?âŚâ, she impatiently interrupts you and you give her the look that a mother gives her children when they repeatedly reach for a toy they are not allowed to have.Â
âBut⌠This is not how I want this to go. Let me take you out on a date or something? Letâs go eat somewhere or read or talk or just sit⌠But not in the back of a car in the middle of the night as we are both very much not sober, hm?â She nods and the hiccup, that escapes her throat right after you take her hand into yours again, just tells you that youâre right.
The rest of the ride is calm and quiet as Kathryn clearly is tired and overwhelmed with all the love she has gotten all night. You opt to just sit with her in silence, noticing how her body slowly falls against yours until her head lands on her shoulder. She is asleep.
You move a strand of hair behind her ear - prompting a small smile to form on her lips and it makes you feel proud that you did the grown up thing and resisted the urge to take a step further, the urge to see how far she would go, not that you could sneakily slip your hand anywhere anyway, considering she was still wearing that one-piece that was hugging her in all the right places.
Shaking your head to get rid of the thoughts that are flooding your tipsy brain right now, you realize youâve reached your neighborhood right as the car slows down on the side walk. Peter opens the window to look at you âDo you want me to take you directly to your house or do you want to walk the rest of the way?â
You really appreciate how considerate he is, but you have to tell your mom eventually anyway, so you opt for the safer option. âTake me directly home, please.â He nods and his eyes wander to Kathryn, who is still asleep on your shoulder. âYouâre good for her, I hope you know that.â, Peter says before closing the window again.
âYOU DID WHAT?â You havenât seen your best friend enraged like that ever before. âYOUR./NAME⌠YOU DID WHAT NOW?
Telling her that you were the one who broke off a kiss with Kathryn was probably not your smartest idea in a while. When you got home last night, you went straight to bed, but texted Alex that you were gonna call her as soon as you woke up to give her all the tea.
âI⌠I broke the kiss?â You repeat and look at her, scared she will yell at you again.
âHoney! How??? Why? This couldâve very well been a one in a lifetime chance!â She is not mad or anything, more shocked because she knows how much youâve wanted this.
You look at her and both of you become serious for a moment. âIt wasnât right. We had too much to drink. I know she wanted it. Weâve had moments before, but⌠I just didnât feel right, Alex. I don't know how to explain. Donât get me wrong, I was into it, very much so, but I want the real deal. Not a car fling, you know?â âYou really are the most amazing person Iâve ever met. I hope she knows how fortunate she is to know someone as respectful as you.â It still felt unusual to talk about Kathryn that way. Even to your best friend. Even though you know you share everything with Alex that is there to share. Kathryn was Kathryn and you were⌠just you. But somehow, when the two of you are together, that doesn't matter at all. You donât think about who she is when you are with Kathryn.
Right as you think about her, your phone lights up and you receive a message.
âSweetheart, I really enjoyed having you around last night! Canât wait to do it again. Packed week ahead, sadly, but would like to invite you to my garden again by the end of it? xxx K.â
For a moment, you smile and already want to text back, but you had read the message out to Alex as well and she doesnât want you to text back just yet. âCanât wait to do it again?â, she says. âLike as in the kiss or as in the night, well I mean the day, in general? DUDE. Thatâs huge!â You hadnât thought about it that way. Alex was wild sometimes. She would come up with things that you havenât considered yet, but not always in a good way. Sometimes, she drops knowledge on you until your anxiety kicks in and she doesnât even notice. Not this time, though.
This time, Alexâ remark only makes your chest swell with pride because, either way, it was a huge compliment. You let Kathryn know that you feel the same and you would love to visit her again.
The following week seems to be endless but somehow you make your way through it, especially with a Q&A that was announced Sunday night and would happen today. Kathryn is booked to watch an episode of her latest show Wandavision with some cast members on something like Zoom, where they can be seen by fans around the globe to promote upcoming shows and increase streams.
She had texted you a selfie earlier, and captioned it with how she was missing your compliments while getting ready, with a wink, of course, and you that made you even more excited to see her later.Â
The event itself is cute, hundreds of fans are online and even though you canât see the other fans, you all can feel the unity and love towards the cast. Youâre sitting on your desk, laptop propped up in front of you with the stream, while you are FaceTiming Alex who stayed awake for the event like she always does.
âKathryn is just soooo beautiful tonight.â Alex swoons, as you watch her staring at the stream. Kathryn does look great. Her blue eyes are highlighted by the blue button up shirt she is wearing and her hair is loosely hanging down one side. Ben really outdid himself with tonightâs look. She smiles at something Lizzie says and they both laugh as they watch the scene where Agatha and Wanda are in the kitchen together.
âMany mouths make good gossip.â Alex laughs and you can see Kathryn grin in the corner of your eyes as you look at her best friend. âHave you told her she looks beautiful yet?â
It was a logical question. Shooting her a message would be so easy and yet, you havenât thought of it yet. You shake your head.
âGurl! Take your phone and text her, NOW! Letâs gooooooo.â She was right. You had the perfect chance right there and you were sure Kathryn would not be looking at her phone anytime soon. Most likely, she would only see your message after the event, so you decide to go for it after all.
âLooking really good tonight, Ms Hahn. ;)â you finally type. It took you a couple tries and you reworded the message several times, trying to figure out what tone would fit best. After deleting the previous ideas, you just want to not send anything at all, but as you reread your final words , you feel satisfaction and that makes you decide to shoot your shot after all. Â
Ales notices our internal struggle âY/N! Send that freaking message NOW.â You know she would take your phone and just press send if she was with you and you want this friendship to feel a little less distant tonight, so you immediately press send.
Immediately, the both of you keep your eyes on the stream to not miss any possible reactions and you were wrong. Kathryn actually does have her phone with her and you can tell she notices a message because she looses attention for a second and looks to her left.
You can tell she rethinks if she should pick up her phone or not, but before you can worry about the whole situation more, she reaches out for her phone and reads. The smile on her face is telling. She tries to tone the smile down but it still creeps onto her face on one side. Youâre not sure, but you would also say that there is a little blush around her nose that you think is adorable and makes a warm feeling bubble up in your body. OH NO.
Shortly, she looks directly at the camera with the softest smile, before putting the phone back aside and giving her attention back to the cast and episode.
âJACKPOT!â Alex celebrates an early win. âShe loved it! See! Aaaaargh, I am SO GOOD AT THIS.â
 You roll your eyes. âYou have a wife, honey, OBVIOUSLY you are.â
And while the two of you laugh about your antics and virtually high five because messaging Kathryn was a success, Â the other fans on twitter are already freaking out about the mysterious message Kathryn has gotten and who it might've been from.

Chapter 4
The Preserve had originally been an isolated island about 50 miles off the coast of the mainland. Over the decades, the land had been expanded with man made floats serving to support the extra buildings and complexes that cropped up to cater to the small human population that stuck around to help out.Â
The wolves still kept to the interiors, most of them having built huge cottage-villas which could house the entire pack, territories marked out clearly to avoid disputes. A few of the very traditional ones lived on the huge mountains that lined the northern end, opting to stay in their wolf-forms most of the time.Â
The island itself was beautiful, rich vegetation , a thriving fauna and a landscape that was lined with beautifully stark cliffs up high and private little coves and beaches scattered below.Â
Taehyung and his daughter lived on a beautiful beach side villa, which had its own vegetable garden , a staff of over 8 to take care of everything, a private jetty for trips to the mainland and a helipad/ airstrip.Â
True to his word, Taehyung did not stay around most days. He was busy with his campaign and I spent the first week recovering. The doctor visited everyday and by the end of the week, most of the internal injuries were healing well, the pain well managed with meds.
Luna had moved into my room, pretty much and I spent the days with her curled into my side, reading from her favorite books, stopping when she encountered a particularly difficult word, ebony eyes turning to mine for help. We read countless books, and she introduced me to all her best friends : Mr. Ted the bear, Kihyun the bunny and Momo the panda. The stuffed animals had a small baby carrier of their own and she liked carting them all around the house.Â
âShe was really pretty. Mama....â Luna whispered one night, as we lay curled on the window seat in my room, a fur throw covering us up as we stared out into the rocky beach far below.Â
I felt my heart lurch in shared grief.Â
âWas she? What else do you remember about her....?â I asked softly.
âHer scent. â Luna said quickly. â She smelled just like you. Like home and fresh cookies with sugar sprinkles. And rainy puddles you can jump in.âÂ
I bit my lips, mindful that Luna was just listing her favorite things. I didnât know much about how weres scented other weres or humans. But i supposed it made sense that her motherâs scent should remind her of things that offered her comfort and joy.Â
But her next words threw me for a loop.Â
âDaddy didnât like her much....â She said suddenly and I felt my throat close up .Â
âOh-Oh?â I was genuinely shocked. Taehyung had looked devastated when he had told me about his wifeâs passing....Â
Luna shook her head.Â
âMy friend from school, Mina? Her mommyâs still alive and her daddy likes her. They kiss and stay in the same room. Mommy and Daddy never kissed. Mommy lived on the east wing.... Thatâs on the other side. Near the rose gardens.â
I bit my lips, feeling incredibly guilty for some reason. This information felt somehow private and not for strangerâs ears. I didnât want Luna to get into trouble for saying this to me .Â
âI miss her sometimes. Iâm glad youâre here.â She sniffled and i felt my heart crack in two. The girl was replacing her mom with me, I thought miserably. I couldnât in good conscience let this happen.Â
But as the days stretched into weeks, with Taehyung out and busy most of the time, i couldnât bring myself to leave. Luna did appear to be calmer, more grounded and happier with me around. She liked staying close to me, at touching distance and she often buried her nose into my neck, sniffing till I had to gently pry her off.Â
Although, absent physically, Taehyung called every day. He facetimed his daughter twice at least and I got a call every night at exactly nine. It was usually curt and formal but he did tell me what he was upto.
âThe elections are coming up soon.... I need to work a bit more on the immediate reforms weâre planning to launch...I wonât be available this week, Lunaâs keeping well?âÂ
âYes, she is. We made a modern recreation of red riding hood and the wolf today with play dough.âÂ
Silence.
âInteresting choice of fairy tale, Mi Rae ssi...â He drawled.Â
I flushed at how my name sounded in that voice.
âItâs a bit different plot wise. In this case, the granny is just a meanie who likes to order Red about and the wolf is the one who rescues her.â I grinned.
He chuckled amicably.
âBit of a stretch , that. But Iâm glad youâre happy. I didnât want to pressure you too much and i know its asking way too much of you . But Ms. Lee says that Luna is happier than sheâs ever been and I do believe youâre the one I have to thank for that. â
I bit my lips. I wanted to tell him that Luna was getting way too attached. That I was afraid of what would happen when it was time for me to leave, but already i could hear voices in the background, people calling for his attention and I remembered that he was doing something important.
 He was trying to build a better world for his little girl.Â
In the long run, all of this would be for Lunaâs benefit only.Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~
it had been nearly a month since Iâd last seen Taehyung . A whole three months since Iâd moved into his villa. My paycheck as a nanny was three times what I was paid as a lab tech. But I hadnât stopped working at the research facility either. I spent the days there, when Luna was busy with her school work . The vaccine had been successful but somehow, my fatherâs company had pulled some sort of nonsense with the patenting and not everyone had got the shorts.Â
I stared out into the murky blue waters as they crashed into the jagged black rocks that lined the private beach. The huge bay windows in the living space offered an unfettered view of the rocky beach.Â
Next to me, Luna was pretty much bouncing around, trying to find all her beach day toys. I watched her fondly, feeling something squeeze my heart when I thought about not seeing her again. The elections were done, the results were due any day now and Taehyung had already told me that he was looking to end this arrangement soon.Â
Luna had a mind like no other. A vibrantly curious child with the most incredible questions, it was clear that she adored her father more than anything else in the world. In the evenings, she liked to play near the small water inlet that fed into the Ocean. The water was shallow, barely an inch or so deep, the terrain covered in small smooth pebbles in every shade of brown of grey. Â
Luna and IÂ spent most of the weekends exploring the small beach around the villa, foraging around in the coves while her caregiver watched me covertly from a distance. She clearly didnât trust me much, but I tried not to let it get to me.
I wasnât here to stay. Taehyung had sent me a mail the previous week, letting me know that I was no longer had to babysit, because he was planning to move to Seoul himself. He would be renting out a condominium there and hiring a full time nanny.Â
And that was fine. it wasnât like i hadnât seen that coming. I had a life of my own and i had to get back to it. My cottage near the research facility was fixed now and I was looking forward to getting back to my life, no matter how much it hurt to leave Luna behind.Â
 I was a little upset that he had sent an impersonal mail to me instead of talking to me in person. Or maybe spoken about it over the phone at least. But I knew that he was just trying to make it easier for me to cut all ties.Â
Okay, fine, maybe I was a little bit bitter that Taehyung hadnât even offered to hire me to take care of Luna . Â I wasnât qualified , yes, but so far Luna had been a dream to stay with. She was so inquisitive and bright, so full of sunshine and happiness.Â
After three months of her unconditional love for me, the idea of not coming home to her vibrant laugh and endless giggles, it just felt so painful.Â
âRae Rae, letâs gooooo....â Her voice broke me out of my thoughts . Despite endless protests from Ms. Lee, Luna insisted on calling me Rae Rae and I found it adorable.Â
I jumped a little, hastily moving to grab the sunscreen, the hat and gloves. While Luna did heal quickly courtesy her wolf-y genes, she was also incredibly prone to sunburn. The first few times, she had promptly shifted into her wolf form when i tried to put it on her, snipping my fingers angrily. The chemical was supposed to be unscented but her sensitive nose had clearly picked it up anyway.Â
It took a lot of bribing with delicious meat patties and steak bites, for the girl to shift back and let me apply it on her.
But now she was comfortable with letting me apply it on her when we went to the beach.Â
She picked up her backpack, a baby blue fur lined affair with twin bunny ears near the handle , and the small tote bag full of her collection of seashells and skipped out of the room happily. I finished packing the rest of her beach stuff : towels, napkins, hair pins and a change of clothes just in case.Â
We were just climbing down the huge stairwell, when Taehyungâs voice rang through the foyer, startling me badly. i hadnât seen him in a long time and against my better judgement I almost half ran back to put some make up on at least. I probably looked like an ogre with smeared sunscreen and my hair uncombed and in a bun.Â
âLu - Lu? Baby???â He called out, his deep voice pretty much reverberating off the walls .
âDAAAADAAAAAAâÂ
I watched her almost tumble headlong the stairs in her rush to get into her fatherâs arms and I hung back, letting them have their reunion.Â
I waited till Taehyung called out for me, before moving to greet him as well.Â
The first thing that stuck me was how incredibly handsome he looked, hair now fully black, swept straight back from his forehead. He was dressed in skinny jeans and a loose black shirt, buttons undone to show the lines of his pecs and a pair of dangly earrings caught the light as he turned to stare at me.Â
âMi Rae ssi....i see youâre all ready for Beach day?â He grinned softly.
There was something radiant about him, a definite lack of anxiety. He looked relaxed almost.
âYou won?â i blurted out. â You won didnât you?â
Taehyungâs eyes glinted .
âIts not officially announced yet, but yes, the Commission called me today . They think Iâve won by a landslide.
Before I could rethink my impulse, I flung myself into his arms, genuinely thrilled beyond belief.
âRThatâs so incredible, Taehyung ssi...iâm so happy for you and-â
âTae? Should I get the other suitcase?âÂ
The female voice made me jolt, and I pulled away, arm still arapped around his neck, intensely aware of his hands on my waist.
Three feet away from us , stood an incredibly beautiful young woman. She was almost as tall as Tae, probably the same age as him and her eyes flashed red when she looked at me.Â
I flinched, stepping back like iâd been scalded.
âJust leave it sweetheart, one of my men will get it. Come meet my little girl.â Taehyung said casually, shooting me one brief intense look of.....anger? annoyance? I couldnât figure it out.
 Sweetheart? did he just call her-
Luna had shuffled to hide behind my legs now, her fingers gripping my waist as she refused to greet the newcomer.
âLuna, this is Ms Jihyun. Sheâs a very good friend of mine.â
Jihyun dropped to her knees, eyes flashing red again as she smiled a tight lipped smile.
âHello, Luna. How are you doing?â She said seriously. Lunaâs grip on me tightened.
âSheâs a little shy.â I choked out, trying to tamp down the rising sense of heartbreak. No. i had actively fought against feeling this way. Every night here, I had told myself that I would not think about Kim Taehyung. Admiring him for what he did , for how hard he worked for his kind....that was one thing ....but this. This was madness.Â
Taehyung reached out around me to lift Luna up into her arms.Â
âHow about we go to the beach with Jihyun and Ms Lee today?â He said casually, holding his hand out to me.
I almost did something stupid, like press my hand into his before realizing that he was asking for the bag i had over my shoulders. Wordlessly, I handed it over.Â
âI want to go with Rae Rae....â Luna said sharply, lips jutting out in a petulant little pout. Â
âWell, Appa and Ms. Rae need to talk about something and once weâre done, Iâll join you there okay?â He ruffled her hair softly and then gently placed her back down.Â
Luna gave me an imploring look.
âAre you leaving me?â Her lips wobbled.
I shook my head instinctively.
âOf course not baby, Iâll be right there. Just a few minutes, okay? Don't forget your sunscreen.â I smiled and Luna pouted again but moved to Ms. Leeâs side hesitantly.Â
Taehyung waited till the three of them began leaving before turning to me.Â
âThank you.â He said quietly , gaze moving to me with the same intensity, and this time I knew what he was doing. He was trying to gauge what I was thinking and I remembered, weakly that Alpha wolves could sometimes sense moods, changes in a personâs body temperatures and things like that. It wasnât like mind reading or anything but a perceptive enough werewolf could definitely guess what kind of mood someone was in.
I fought to keep my face neutral. There wasnât much I could do about how clammy and cold my entire body had gone after meeting Jihyun. It wouldnât take a rocket scientist to guess why I didnât l;ike Jihyun there.
âItâs not you.â He said gently.
I swallowed.
âSorry?â
âYouâre beautiful. If we were.... the same kind of people.....I wouldnât be saying this. But because of who we are.... Iâm going to say it. Itâs not a good idea.â He whispered.
I flushed, feeling like my entire body had been dipped in ice cold water.
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â I said evenly.
He hummed.
âIf you leave today, thereâs a job waiting for you in the Research Center. Itâs a level up from what youâre doing right now. Iâve asked them to put up extra security around your cabin and Iâve talked with the wolves here. No one will come anywhere near you. âÂ
I nodded bleakly.
âThank you.â I said quietly.Â
âYouâre going to forget me and Luna in a few weeks. And I would rather that things end now, before Luna becomes more attached.â
I nodded.
âCan i talk to her before I leave?â I asked softly.
He hesitated.Â
âI donât.... I mean, I would rather not have Jihyun be present for that. Sheâs.... well sheâs someone Iâm getting to know and she may feel -â
I wanted to kick myself in the face for ever having agreed to this whole thing.
âI understand. Iâll be back tomorrow morning to get the rest of my stuff and to say goodbye to Luna.â I said shortly.Â
Before he could reply, I brushed past him and ran up to my room. I had to get out of here as soon as I could.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luna cried inconsolably and I was eternally grateful that no one else was there when I carefully unpacked the huge carton of snacks and toys , Iâd packed for her. Taehyung had made things a little easier, by telling Luna that it wasnât me who was leaving but it would be them. They were going to a new place so they would be leaving me behind because I had stuff to do here.Â
âIâm not going to be gone completely. Iâm going to come visit you as often as I can alright and look....â I pulled out the small phone Iâd brought her.
She stopped sniffling and held her hand out. I placed the flip phone in her hands.
âTheres just two numbers there. See the picture of the wolf? Thats daddy..... And see the one with the flower.....thatâs me. If you want to talk to either of us, all you need to do is press this button.â
Luna hesitated.
âDaddy said, I canât have any phones.â She said hesitantly. What a wonderful child, i thought fondly.
âYes, but this isnât the kind of phone that could hurt your eyes. Itâs just a talking phone. Besides, your daddy already knows and heâs okay with it.â I smiled.Â
She nodded, turning the little device over and over in her hands.
âDaddy sayâs weâre going to the city. Why donât you want to come?â She said angrily and i sighed.
âIts not that I donât want to come, baby. Itâs just that my home is here. I help take care of the little pups here remember? Some of them get sick and I help make them better....â I smiled, ruffling her hair.Â
She nodded.
âGood girl...Now how about we go see the sandcastle you built yesterday...? See if itâs still there?â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Life went on and I found myself busy enough to not dwell on Taehyung too much. The vaccines were rolling out much faster now and most of the cases were milder . i spent the days in the research center and went home to my cozy cabin. Taehyung had been true to his word an an electric fence ran around the perimeter , twelve feet tall . A security guard stayed near the gate at all times, a beta werewolf named Minjun.Â
Two weeks after Taehyung had moved out of the island, a distraction arrived in the form of one Jeon Jungkook . He was a year younger than me and finishing his internship before becoming a radiologist. He was smart , handsome and an alpha wolf with a deceptively cute bunny like smile.
Jungkook liked following me around when we had free time and I found his incessant noona , noona...endearing. But I was also not an idiot.Â
Jungkook was looking for a fuck buddy and I was convenient. The only female in the research center. Werewolves didnât do one night stands with each other, because being intimate always left a scent and it would make things messy. So weres generally went to humans for no strings attached sex.Â
It wasnât that I minded , but a part of me was terrified i would do something stupid. Like call him Taehyung in the middle of us fucking.Â
But of course, stupid decisions were my forte.Â
So I did end up sleeping with him.Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âWell, you look miserable.â Jimin commented mildly, as I stumbled forward to the counter. I hadnât slept much the previous night and had nearly missed the ferry to the mainland in the morning.
âIâm fine oppa. Just frazzled. Give me something strong but sweet...â I begged, riffling through my bag for my wallet. Outside, the rain poured in torrents. I was still dripping water from my hair and my jacket, although Iâd been out of the rain for a whole five minutes.Â
âTaehyungâs been asking about you....Why donât you pick his calls?â Jimin said casually and I flinched.Â
âI did pick his calls. a couple of times....â I muttered .Â
That had been a whole experience. Taehyung had called me two weeks back, frothing at the mouth about something.Â
Apparently, Ji Hyun the lovely girlfriend that Kim Taehyung like flaunting all over town, was also the older sister on one Jeon Jungkook. And because we had had sex the previous night, Jungkook had smelled like me when he visited Taehyung and Ji hyun. Even Luna had picked up on the scent.
How on earth was i supposed to know?Â
Taehyung had been so furious that Iâd hung up the phone midway through.Â
âAnd, what happened?â
I shrugged.
âAnd then I got busy. Why? Iâve been talking to Luna... I even met her a couple of times. Itâs not like I have any other reason to talk to him.... â I protested.
Jimin hummed.
âHeâs still seeing that model. Jeon Ji hyun? I heard her brother works in the Research center?â Jimin raised an eyebrow, sliding my drink across the counter. I stepped out of the line but stayed near the counter, staring at him. Damn it. Had Taehyung actually told Jimin about it?Â
âJungkook? Yeah. Heâs a doctor... Heâs doing his MD , radiology and heâs here for exposure , apparently...â
âAlpha?â Jimin continued flitting about, making orders but his tone held a note of sympathy.Â
I shrugged.
âYeah, he is. But we donât talk much. We went out one night but then heâs been aloof ever since.â I shrugged again hoping that Jimin was buying my nonchalant act. i still didnât know how much he knew.Â
Jungkook was a nice guy and I was a little peeved that he didnât seem to want anything more than a friends with benefits thing. But that had less to do with him and more to do with the fact that men, in general, never seemed to consider me as a potential girlfriend.Â
But then, the poor guy was in probably the most crucial part of his education. Relationships were probably the farthest thing from his mind.Â
Jimin stopped when the last customer in the line left. He stared at me.Â
âTaehyung told me Luna called you one morning and Jungkook picked the phone.âÂ
I froze.
âWhat?!â I hissed, completely thrown. This, I hadnât known.Â
âYou went out? With Jungkook? And he stayed over , Iâm guessing....Iâm going to go out on a limb and say that you guys did not play Jenga all night?â He glared at me. I flushed.
âFine. We slept together. We are sleeping together....its just consensual sex between two willing parties, . Itâs no big deal.â I said flippantly.
âYou donât think thatâs why Taehyung has been calling you? Thatâs his potential brother in law right there. Itâs too messy. I think you should stop. â He frowned.Â
I rolled my eyes.
âListen it has nothing to do with me. Iâm not going to marry Jungkook okay? Iâm not going to be calling Taehyung my brother in law either. Its not going to happen. i just had this...stupid king of crush on him and he knew about it. He turned me down too, did he tell you that. He told me him and I were too different.... meaning I wasnât a were so he wouldnât consider being with someone like me. â
Jimin groaned.Â
âyou know why he feels that way. Donât make this about you. Itâs not personal.â
âThen why is it spilling into my personal life? I have no obligation to him. I can sleep with who I want.....â
Jimin rolled his eyes.
âTaehyungâs a were. Heâs not going to see it that way.âÂ
âWell, I donât give a damn how he sees it, Iâm having sex with a handsome young man who is attracted to me. Thatâs a good time, right there and Iâm not going to stop having a good time just because it offends Taehyungâs delicate sensibilities.â I snapped.Â
Jimin shrugged.
âJust donât say I didnât warn you.âÂ
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I went back to my cabin that evening, I found Minjun missing from his usual place near the gate. The gate was still locked so I didnât think too much about it, merely slotting the rusty old key into the huge lock and prying it open.Â
I made my way to the door, opening it carefully.Â
i nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw who was there.Â
âwhat the- Seo Joon?â I said in disbelief, stumbling back when the tall alpha stumbled to his feet from where he was lounging on the couch.Â
âWell, look whoâs here....if it isnât the slutty little bitch who wants to sleep her way through every were on the island....First Taehyung and now Jungkook.....you sure know who to pick, huh.....? All powerful, influential wolves..... â He slurred.
I stared at him. This wasnât good. I turned on my heel, ready to run back out but he was faster than me. I groaned when he slammed into my back pinning me to the door with so much force that the wood splintered,.Â
While my bruised ribs had healed, they still hurt a bit. And the force of his actions left my mind reeling from the pain.Â
âGet off me!! â I screamed, â MINJUN!!!!! MINJUN HELP!!!âÂ
âSHUT THE FUCK UP YOU WHORING BITCH!!!â
He slapped me right across the face, the strength of it sending me crashing into the side table. I whimpered as I tried to get on my feet, fingers fumbling for my phone .
âit was you wasnât it? I was supposed to be the deputy minister.... Taehyungâs supposed to be my fucking friend. instead i got fired like some lowly runt ...... It was you wasnât it? you convinced him that humans are our fucking friends....âÂ
I shook my head, frantic.
âNo...i swear Iâve not spoken to Taehyung...i didnât say anything... Seo Joon please donât...â I screamed when he reached down and grabbed my hair, yanking me to my feet till my scalp felt like it was on fire.
âMaybe I should fuck you too....since that's the thing people seem to be doing these days....Its because of your father isnât it? That bastard has been all over the news, talking these past few weeks about how his precious daughter is doing a lot of work for the welfare of wolves....Maybe I should fuck his daughter too.... â He began, reaching for my blouse.Â
I barely registered the nonsense about my father before a loud sound broke through the din.Â
The door swung open and the sound of gunfire made me scream.
 I stared at the door only to see the security guard staring at us with wide eyes.Â
Minjun , panicked and completely overwhelmed , had blindly opened fire on both of us.Â
I felt the touch of the bullet to my shoulder, before the blinding explosion of pain.
 But he seemed to have hit Seo Joon as well, enough times for the were to let go of me and I crashed to floor, clutching my shoulder in agony.Â
The sound of gunfire had attracted more people and through the throng I heard Jungkookâs voice.
âNoona.... Mirae noona is that you----???â
âKookie!!â I croaked out desperately. Jungkookâs eyes went wide when he saw, me, pushing his way past the other wolves before letting out a snarl. The sound seemed to make the others cower and I remembered that he was an alpha too.Â
I gripped his arms when he reached me.Â
âDonât tell Taehyung...â I gasped out, still clutching my shoulder.Â
âGod, what the fuck.... We need to get you out of here...â He was already dialing for the ambulance. I waited for him to finish, gasping from the pain. Fuck, it hurt like hell.Â
âWeâre going to get you to the research center first.â Jungkook said frantically. Â
I nodded, stumbling to my feet when he tried to lift me up.Â
âItâs okay...just...get me something to âŚâ But he was already peeling off his shirt, wadding up to press against the bleeding bullet hole .
âHyung is going to kill Seo Joon.â He said grimly.Â
For once, I didnât particularly care.Â
My mind raced because I hadnât thought about my father in years.Â
What did that tyrant want with me now??
Chapter One: Moonlight Messages
Soon, the flowers wouldnât be enough. No, Elain corrected herself as she glared at the vase, they werenât enough already. They had never been enough.
The house slept while Elain perched on her window ledge at the River Manor. Despite her cotton nightgown, she had not yet been able to find sleep herself, as so often she did these days. And so, Elain had risen to sit in the silver light of her window ledge and watch the impossibly beautiful night sky of the Night Court wink down at her tauntingly.
The revelation had occurred to Elain a few nights ago, but it hadnât seemed important then and, along with most of Elainâs life experience thus far, had been brushed under the proverbial carpet. Her education in the etiquette of balls, the correct way one must curtsey in the presence of ladyâs and dames, even the novels sheâd read on the history of cutlery; it was all useless. She should be upset; she should care that the values that had been instilled in her by her terrifying mother had all but evaporated. But Elain felt nothing.
She was afraid of the flowers, though, because once theyâd gone sheâd really have nothing left. No mother, no father, no mortal etiquette, in fact, no mortality at all. After being reborn in a world that didnât make sense to her, after being abandoned by everything she held dear, her father, her fiancĂŠ, gardening truly was the only common factor between her life then, and her life now.
And that was useful, to begin with. Gardening was a lifeline to pull her out of the fog that was those first months out of the Cauldron. It shouldâve been a steppingstone in her road to recovery, the first step into her new life. Instead, it had consumed her.
As Feyre continued to prove that sheâd always meant to be the High Lady of the Night Court, and especially when Nesta â Nesta â found her footing with the Valkyries and began to make a life for herself in Prythian, Elain was left to her flowers. There was nothing else for her, no purpose. No one knew how to talk to her; too afraid she might break if they ask anything more of her than a new pot of petunias.
But if flowers were all the universe could give her, whilst her sisters got married and began to spew out their beautiful children, then she would be grateful. But the flowers werenât enough, and she was a fool to ever think otherwise.
Sheâd read every book, familiarised herself with the climates of the different courts and the different shrubbery that grow there. The information was running out, and so, her purpose was running out. Maybe this wouldnât have threatened her when she was a human, when she only had a good 80 years, if she were lucky, before sheâd be taken in the arms of oblivion. But it was eternity that now stretched before her. Eternity of being her sisterâs gardener.
Death gives life meaning, petal â so live. Itâs what Elainâs father had told her when Graysen had asked for her hand in marriage. Elain had kneeled at her fatherâs feet, giggling as she gripped his knees and begged him to say yes. In all her life, sheâd never been so happy. She was to be married, she was to have her own estate, her own gardens! Imagine that. It would be a little life, nothing of the prince her mother had sworn she was pretty enough to marry. But Elain wouldâve gone with Graysen even if he had only a cottage and a ring made of straw.
Her mother, rest her soul, had told Elain that she was a fool, because she believed in romance the way children of the night believed in the fae. Elain devoted her life to romance, her holy books were the novels her father had brought her from the continent, full of dangerous escapades and rising tension, love confessions and secret weddings. Where Nesta had wished to marry rich, Elain had wished to fall in love.
Silly girl, infatuated with infatuation. Her motherâs voice echoed around her head. Just wait, Elain. Wait until a man breaks your heart, itâs all they know to do, then youâll realise that you and I, well, we arenât so different after all.
Elain hated her mother for a multitude of reasons, but most of all because she was right. Now her engagement ring was sitting at the bottom of her beside drawers, her heart was broken, her body something else entirely, and her mindâŚHer mind was torture. It was a labyrinth, and it was complicated. Where Elain used to have silence, she now had noise, endless undisturbed chatter of visions that had not yet taken form. And above it all, beating like a drum of justice â his heartbeat.
At that moment, it was steady and satiated, and Elain knew that meant he was asleep. Lucien, her mate, safe and asleep on the other side of Prythian, and though she could never admit it to herself, the thought did bring her some comfort. At least Lucien was stagnant and reliable, even if he was only reliable in his ability to avoid her at all costs.
It felt like rejection.
All this time Feyre and Nesta, even Rhysand, had talked to her about Lucien in terms of everything being her choice. It would be her choice if she wanted to accept the bond with Lucien, and no matter her decision, Lucien was a good enough male to accept that choice and move on. But it didnât much feel like her choice mattered, not when her supposed soulmate spent his days at the other end of the lands, as far away from her as possible. Maybe he was hoping sheâd reject the bond, but that didnât explain his behaviour when he visited, all racing heartbeats and flushed cheeks.
Lucien was a hypocrite, Elain couldnât help but think as she sighed into the crook of her elbow, feeling a surge of emotion batter through her. Damn her human heart. Lucien was a hypocrite because in leaving her, heâd left her with no choice at all.
He may as well have rejected her. As Graysen had rejected her. As Azriel had rejected her.
All Elain wanted was to love, and to be loved, and yet she was loveless, alone â drowning, all over again. Most of the time Elain could keep the ocean of agony at bay, the one that had almost killed her when sheâd first come out of the Cauldron. But then there were moments like these, in the dead of night, when she could not sleep. In these moments, the pain had nowhere to go, and it rose up in her life a black wave, before taking her under.
Sinking her teeth into the crook of her elbow until she tasted her fae blood, Elain battled through the wave of emotion. Her tears coming hot and quick as she curled into herself and lay, paralyzed in the depth of her aloneness, till the clouds smothered the moon and turned the world dark.
***
On the other side of Prythian, Lucien found himself tumbling into consciousness. He was sprawled on his back in his bedroom of the Lockhart manor, the residence of Vassa and Lucien, and he supposed, his own home too. Supposedly. The pale sheets were crumpled around his waist and his bare chest was rising steadily in the moonlight.
Unable to stay still, and forever thinking the worst after a childhood of running and hiding, Lucien sprung from his bed and unsheathed his sword from where it hung on a nearby armchair. Breathing through his nose, Lucien turned back to the dark room, his eyes, one fae, one machine, roved over the room, checking for any threat.
But the moment he was up and moving, his body showed him his cause for waking. A sharp, agonising tug from in between his ribs on his left side caused Lucien to surge forwards with a gasp, his sword cluttering to the floor. Just when he recovered from that first tug of the mating bond, a second followed, throwing Lucien onto his hands and knees as a wave of pure, agonising, hopelessness washed over him.
But the moment he was up and moving, his body showed him his cause for waking. A sharp, agonising tug from in between his ribs on his left side caused Lucien to surge forwards with a gasp, his sword cluttering to the floor. Just when he recovered from that first tug of the mating bond, a second followed, throwing Lucien onto his hands and knees as a wave of pure, agonising, hopelessness washed over him.
âWhatâŚâ Lucien gasped into the silence, his hand running over his ribs, trying to ease the bond that was so fervently demanding his attention. The bond had pulled on him, not Elain â at least he could tell that by now. But the way in which the bond had demanded his attention, it was haunting. It felt as though it had reached the end of a limit, like an elastic band stretched to far only for it to snap right back.
With his mating bond being tugged on so viscerally the base mate desires that Lucien had spent two years putting a damper on, raged into fiery life. Go to her. Find her. Comfort. Keep her safe. Protect her. ComfortâŚSheâs hurting. Kill the threat. Growling into the silence, Lucien scrunched his eyes shut and threw himself against those urges, shoving them deep down. As he did so he repeated his mantra to himself â âShe doesnât need me. She doesnât want me. I will not demand anything of her. Sheâs fine.â
The last one didnât really help, not if the overwhelming sadness was any indication of how his mate was faring. Sheâs upset. The bond seemed to whisper in his ear and Lucien felt his guts turn. Elain was supposed to be happy, thatâs why he was doing all of this. He was keeping himself on the other side of the world so she could find herself, so she could be happy. But she wasnât. If that spout of emotion was enough of an indication, Elain was miserable.
Sighing, Lucien rocked back onto his knees and ran a hand down his face, only for his hand to come away wet. Touching his cheek again, Lucien smelt the brine of tears in his room. But they werenât his tears. No, a lady, his lady, was weeping on the other side of the world, hard enough for her tears to roll down his cheeks.
Again, Lucien felt his guts turn and thought for a moment he might be sick. Throwing himself to his feet Lucien sat back on his bed, glaring out his window to the moon, the same moon she might be looking at, at that very instant.
Lucien didnât have anything going for him. He was a traitor, a coward, a seventh son, an outsider; when the world reforged itself around the Archeron sisters, Lucien had got left behind. No, not left behind, stuck. He was neither here nor there. Neither friend nor foe. Nothing was solid in his life, nothing constant, except that golden thread wrapped around his ribcage, tugging him north toâŚher.
She was enigmatic and good, supposedly. The same way he was supposedly cunning. He wanted toâŚwell, he wanted to do everything. But in this moment, and over the past few months, he just wished to know her. A minute of her time, each day, would that be so much. But she was beyond him, in every sense of the word.
She was still broken and still healing, and he couldnât impose himself into her new world. Right?
Lucien groaned and turned away from the moonlight, burying his head into his pillow. All Lucien seemed to be able to think was that somewhere, on the other side of Prythian was Elain. Elain, alive and well. His mate. His mate. Mother, heâd never get over saying those two little, impossible words.
She was his soulmate, did that mean she was awake now, thinking of him the way he thought of her? Obsessively, incandescently, without remorse or restraint. Rolling on his back, Lucien looked again at the moon.
âAre you thinking of me?â He whispered into the silence, only the moonlight and the mother to hear the tremble in his voice, ââŚbecause Iâm thinking of youâŚIâm always thinking of you.â
NIGHTWISH Has Been 'Brainstorming' Over Demo Of Next Studio Album
NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen and drummer Kai Hahto spoke to Knotfest about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's follow-up to 2020's "Human. :II: Nature." album. Tuomas said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, actually, for the past few weeks, we have been listening to a demo of the next album. Because of COVID, lots of free time, I decided to use that well, so I wrote all the songs for the next album, demoed it, wrote the lyrics, and now we have been brainstorming over it with these guys," he added, referring to Hahto and the rest of NIGHTWISH.
Added Kai: "Yeah, it's been great. The six of us, in the same room, listening to fresh demos for the upcoming album, checking the lyrics and the vocal parts and stuff like that. So it's been wonderful. This man [Tuomas] has been really productive."
Earlier in the month, Tuomas told Rock Sverige that he spent "about a year" working on the music and lyrics for the next NIGHTWISH album, "and then we finished the demos about two months ago. We're hitting the studio next summer, so in about a year from now," he revealed. "Like I said, might as well use the time for something."
Asked if he got any kind of inspiration from the pandemic, Tuomas said: "Yeah, lyrically there's a couple of things that reflects the pandemic, but not in the way you would expect."
"Human. :II: Nature." was released in April 2020. The follow-up to 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" was a double album containing nine tracks on the main CD and one long track, divided into eight chapters, on CD 2.
In July 2021, NIGHTWISH played a special "secret" concert in Oulu, Finland as a warm-up for its festival appearances in Finland. The gig marked NIGHTWISH's first fan-attended show in more than two and a half years. It was also NIGHTWISH's first proper concert with session bassist Jukka Koskinen's (WINTERSUN),who stepped into the group as the replacement for longtime NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marko "Marco" Hietala. Hietala announced his departure from the band in January 2021, explaining in a statement that he hadn't "been able to feel validated by this life for a quite a few years now."
Koskinen made his live debut with NIGHTWISH at the band's two interactive experiences in May 2021. The shows reportedly drew 150,000 viewers, setting the record for the largest paid virtual concert in Finland's history. Most of the viewers came from Europe and North America, but the performance was a truly global event, with fans in 108 countries purchasing tickets to the show and the box office gross exceeding one million euro.
In May 2021, Holopainen said that Hietala's decision to leave NIGHTWISH "came as a bit of a surprise." He told Finland's Kaaos TV: "Marko informed us in December [of 2020 that he was leaving the band]. And even though he has been very open about his state and problems during the past years, it still came as a bit of a surprise for us. So it was a really tough pill to swallow. And for a few days, I was actually quite confident that there's no coming back, that this is it. I remember talking to Emppu [Vuorinen], the guitar player, and we were, like, 'You think this is it?' 'Yeah, I think this is it.' I mean, enough is enough. So much has happened in the past. Something that broke the camel's back, as they say. Then, after some time had passed â a few days â we started to think that it's been such a ride of 25 years, with so many ups also, that this is not the way to end it."
âWe have to pay to talk on the phone?â Max asked incredulously. âI thought it was free.â
âOf course it isnât free, Max!â David chuckled. âWe have to pay for WiFi too.â
âThis is ridiculous!â Max said. âNext you will say we have to pay for electricity.â
âUm, we do have to pay for electricity,â David chuckled again.
âDonât let them guilt trip you!â Max had chastised. âThey like doing chores. Let them do it. They fight demons all day and then come home and do chores. I feel like itâs their form of therapy. They need this.â
âI donât know,â Max groaned. âMy family is so dramatic.â
In retrospect, he really shouldnât have said that.
âPerhaps you should just take him to the New York Library. They have, uh, books.â
yes that is what they keep in libraries
OH MY GOD THE FRIEND IS ELYASS
HERE'S MY FAVORITE DEMON Y'ALL
His parents would not be pleased if they knew Max was summoning demons for relationship advice.
But they had also encouraged Max to make friends with everyone regardless of their identity. So, technically this was their fault. They gave him very mixed messages.
well-
you know i really shouldnt have laughed at the demon attack news but for some reason i did
i blame my sleep deprivation
âThat was an Armani, you piece of shit!â Rafael yelled at the demon. Max almost laughed.
It really did. Dragon demons smelled like they lived inside a boys locker room.
âSay the thing!!!â
âIâm not saying the damn thing, you maniac!â
âSay the thing!â
Rafael groaned and raised his hands, the alliance rune lighting up.
âIâm not just a shadowhunter,â Rafael said through gritted teeth. âIâm Magnus Baneâs son.â
âWell, demons are stupid,â Max pointed out.
âYeah, that makes sense,â Rafael said with a mouthful of food. âYou are half demon after all.â
Im so sleepy i cant even react to this
but THEM I CANT-
WHERE.IS.ALEC
Max wanted to laugh. Only David would worry about another person while being injured in the infirmary.
MUST BE PROTECTED
Max nodded; his throat still dry. He couldnât stop staring at David. At the wound. At the blood.
Also, maybe the naked chest.
AHEM
OH MY GOD JAIME IS ALIVE
âBut it tastes so good when itâs from your plate!â Max said with a mouth full of food.
âOh, you want my food? Here!â Rafael grinned and threw a piece of chicken at his face.
Max caught it with his mouth cause wasting food was a crime. âThanks, bro!â
âYou little s-â
HE CAUGHT IT IN HIS MOUTH
âAnd no fighting over chicken!â Bapak pointed out. âWe can always summon some more.â
âOrder,â dad corrected. âWe donât summon. We order. And then we pay.â
âHow do we destroy capitalism if we have to pay for everything?â Max asked.
Max has a point y'know
âThatâs rich coming from someone who is wearing an Armani jacket,â Max stuck out his tongue.
âIt was a gift!â Rafael said, furiously chewing on his chicken.
âDoes that mean Bapak is a capitalist?â Max asked.
LMAO
Max: What even-
Max: Can shadowhunters get high on iratzes lol
CAN THEY???
David: Mr Herondale yelled âYes! Two out of three!â
MOOD
âDavid is what you get if Dad and Uncle Jace and Uncle Jem had a baby.â
STOP NO
âOh,â Max said. âUh, David and IâŚWe are dating.â
Dad choked on his coffee. âExcuse me?â
Bapak chuckled next to him. âOf course you didnât know.â
âYou two are dating?â dad demanded. âSince when? Who else knows about this? Why didnât you tell us before? Were you dating when you were in London? Magnus, did you know about this?â
âThere you go!â Max yelled triumphantly. âThatâs the dramatic reaction I was looking for. Thanks, dad!â
There's alec. Yup
OH MY GOD NOT THE SEX TALK
âKissing?â dad gaped. âOn the mouth???â
âUm, where else would we kiss?â Max asked incredulously.
âWell, actually,â Bapa cleared his throat. âThere are many ways you can enjoy-â
IM CACKLING
And thatâs how the next hour turned out to be the most painful and most embarrassing hour of his life.
Max decided he would rather get attacked by a hoard of dragon demons than sit through it any longer
âYou guys know we have something called the internet, right?â Max demanded.
âWell, the internet can have mixed messages,â Bapak sniffed. âWe on the other hand have real life experien-â
âMagnus!â dad looked red in the face.
âFine,â Bapak sighed. âNow moving on to the importance of lubrication and-â
âIâm begging you to stop,â Max groaned.
THE NOISES WHICH LEFT MY MOUTH ARE NOT OK TO BE MAKING AT 3 30 AM
âIâll have you know this conversation utterly traumatized me. I demand financial compensation.â
Max thought of all the stories he had heard then. The one of the warlock who killed people who he could bring back his dead girlfriend. The one about a nephilim mother who paired up with prince of hell to bring back her dead son.
They called it The Jem effect.
âIâm hearing an inflated sense of self-importance,â he heard Ragnor call from the bathroom. âIs Magnus here?â
âJust the spawn,â Max called back.
THE SPAWN BYE-
âHe is married to the Consul!â Tessa chuckled. âAnd one of his sons is a shadowhunter.â
âItâs still very bad for our reputation,â Ragnor grumbled. âHe is too close with shadowhunters.â
âYou are the headmaster of Scholomance!â Catarina said incredulously. âYou teach nephilim! Even though you donât need a job!â
âI was coerced!â Ragnor huffed. âManipulated by the children of the angel.â
really ragnor?
The grin disappeared and Ragnor buried his face on Catarinaâs shoulder. âI canât go through this again, Cat! Not again!â
âSo much for not taking up after his father, huh?â Catarina chuckled and looked at him. âThatâs nice, Max. We are happy for you.â
âWe are not!â Ragnor said in a muffled voice.
RAGNOR DJHDCUHUKIHDVVFDDB
OOOO MAX DIDNT KNOW ABOUT CAMILLE
a kind of endless love...
dont make me cry
âI know you are worried, love,â Tessaâs voice was a whisper. âYou are worried about surviving after David. You are worried about your own heart. But you should never let that fear stop you from finding love. Because love is what sustains us immortals. It keeps us alive. When you love a mortal, you love them forever. You might not remember all the memories. The colour of their eyes or the sound of their voice. But you will remember the love. You will carry that love inside you forever. It does not make you weak or fragile. It makes you stronger. And you will forever be grateful for it.â
my eyeballs are too tired to cry
stop it
THEY SAID I LOVE YOU
I FEEL LIKE A PROUD MOM
Max laughed. âIâm going to kill dad for making us do this. God, this is so weird!â
âYou should two should some spend time together. Get to know each other and all of that,â Max suggested with a smile. âMaybe you can bond over archery or something.â
âIâm pretty sure he would use me for target practice,â David mumbled.
âDonât be ridiculous, David!â Max said incredulously. âMy father doesnât need target practice!â
At this point, a David and alec scene isn't a want its a NEED
âI got it all planned,â Max said â for someone who had no idea what he was going to do.
me throughout life
OH MY GOD MY DAD JUST CAME TO CHECK ON ME THE WAY I SLAMMED MY LAPTOP
âAlso tell him to stop smoking!â Max pointed out seriously. âItâs not good for his health! Especially with all the mundane illnesses going on.â
âI know, Max,â dad sighed heavily and blinked. âI mean, Iâll talk to him. For sure.â
â false god [part I] / false god [part II]
summary: Then, you look at him, really look at him. Past those six eyes, beyond the black, the red and yellow; for who he once was. Maybe in another life you would be graced with the luck to meet him again, under different circumstances, being able to love him for the person he truly was.Â
V.
After so many years of living in the dark, the idea of enjoying the night as much as you enjoyed the day was still foreign. As the day shifted, you looked forward to watch the curtains of the stage closing for the sun, so the moon would have its chance to perform another beautiful night; stars twinkling and dancing between clouds, glowing in the dark â it was now an endless battle for your favoritism.Â
There was something about the moon; its form so intrinsic and majestic. You would watch from your window how bright and graceful the celestial body moved around the sky. How it would cast a dreamy gleam as the night went by. The quiet sounds of the animals; crickets and owls filling the silence with their everyday songs.Â
It was a beautiful phenomenon on this side of the world. Or at least, on this side of life you were finally experiencing. Counting stars to sleep, the gentle but cold breeze of the night, the fragile silence that seems untouchable even with the nocturne activity. It was peaceful, and thatâs what youâve wanted for so long that everyday was a day to enjoy life by itself.Â
Or maybe partially, because some nights the last thing you did was contemplating the moon in the sky. Instead, you would be contemplating another one; right on earth, at the touch of your fingers. At Kokushibouâs mercy, you would give him anything he wanted â and you were, oh, so willing to provide. Even though you had a job to do, now most of the time, you would find yourself making your way to his bedroom, only getting out of it hours later.Â
Kokushibou fucked like he fought. It was raw and rough, borderline animalistic â which you suspect was just his nature acting under his lust, he was a Demon after all. You didnât mind though, you actually really liked how carnal and real the act felt. And mostly, how everytime after sex you would lay down, feeling good and satisfied. Soon enough you were craving for his touch, counting the hours, the days so you could taste him again.Â
After some time, you learned all his preferences, all his favorite spots. You liked to see the hunger on his face when you changed things in bed, trying something new; just the greed on his eyes was enough to get you aroused. You loved the way he devoured your mouth, how he imprinted his desire on your flesh; carving you with kisses and teeth.Â
Not only were your neck and shoulders marked; but you could find purple and blue spots on your back, down to your breasts, inside your thighs and even on your ass â He clearly was making it difficult for you to cover up everything. At some point you stopped trying to hide the marks he left on your skin.Â
The other servants probably knew about your activities with him anyway, so it wasn't a secret you needed to keep. And the way Kokushibou glanced at your exposed, and pretty much marked skin for the first time while you were working still gets you all worked up â He was, without a doubt, a possessive man.
Soon enough, you started to spend more time in his bedroom than anywhere else. And because you didn't know how to explain to the servants that youâve been having sex with him for the past few months, you choose to not talk about it at all. Pretending that nothing was happening was easier than trying to explain something that didn't really have an explanation.Â
Or maybe it did. And it was quite simple. You liked to be fucked by Kokushibou, and he liked to fuck you. That was all.
When it came to having sex, it was something you could do without thinking; your body moved on its own, knowing exactly what to do and what it wanted. How to pleasure both of you, something that Kokushibou seemed to like â A contrast to the old days, because he wanted you to feel good, wanted to make you come screaming his name. Which was something you were very pleased about because you couldn't take one sided relationships anymore.Â
However, when it came to simple interactions; like talking about the day, about the weather, or even dancing with him â another thing Kokushibou seemed to take a liking other than having sex â You were a mess, never knowing what to do, where to look at. It would make you laugh at how much those basic things left you blushing more than having his cock down your throat.
The night was prettier by the lake; the water was almost still, saving from the small bubbles from the fishes that popped on the surface from time to time. It reflected the full moon on its surface, mirroring the beauty from the sky. The wind hits your exposed legs, and even though it isn't cold, you shiver slightly.Â
You were wearing only a kimono and your undergarments. It wasn't an ideal way to dress when going out of the house; but sooner or later you were going to be naked, so why make it difficult to undress? When Kokushibou invited you to come see the lake that day, it was more than obvious that he didn't want to only show you the place.Â
âMay I ask you a bold question?â You shyly say, glancing at him from the corner of your eyes.
You pick one grape from the bunch you had brought and eat it to distract yourself from the nervousness on our stomach. Kokushibou didnt say it was a picnic, but you decided to make it one. The towel that you extend was soft under your skin, the food was inside a basquet and even though the man wasn't eating anything from it, you knew he would still have his meal before dawn.
âYou may.â Heâs sitting by your side, eyes lingering on your fingers. The warmth of the proximity was nice since you weren't wearing many clothes.
âHow old are you really?â You ask hesitantly. You knew it wasn't your position to ask personal questions; yet, you couldn't help wanting to know more about the man, wanting to dwell on his deep waters; wanting to find treasures no one had the chance to see.Â
âWhy do you want to know that?â Kokushibou blinks, eyes opening and closing in a perfect rhythm.Â
Although it was rude to stare, the movement would always catch your eyes, watching how even his blinks were perfectly synchronized. You once had the opportunity to watch him train, and you wanted to imprint every single minute of that day on your mind, forever carved on the brain. You had never seen someone moving so beautifully yet dangerous; how impeccable the katana cut through the air, every single muscle exposed as he shifted from a position to another â And heavens, the way he fucked you after that left you sore for the rest of the week.Â
âBecause I'm curious?â You raise an eyebrow, trying to sound casual.Â
You were still working your nervousness around him when you two weren't having sex. It was a territory probably neither of you knew much about, Kokushibou taking too long to answer, and you hesitating to continue. You pick another grape, this time making sure to suck your finger in the process.
Kokushibou shifts his gaze to the lake. A beautiful swan floated around, alone in the big body of water. You watch the bird as well, the gleam from above making the white of his feathers shine under the moonlight. Silence fell between you two, but it wasn't uncomfortable. You wonder if Kokushibou was thinking about his past life, if he was trying to remember all those years he had lived.Â
â485 years.â He finally says.
You gag on the grape, coughing a little bit in the process. You had a suspicion that he was old, but 458 years? You look at the lonely swan again. Time must be a different concept for someone like Kokushibou, to watch seasons changing the landscape from a year to another, from snow to summer rains. People borning then dying. Heroes rising then sinking. Wars, Marriages. Life, Death. It was such a heavy number that you couldn't even fathom the idea of living for so long. Alone.
âIsn't lonely? Living for that long by yourself?â You genuinely wanted to know.
Kokushibou turns his head to look at you, bringing his hand to your face. He touches tenderly your cheek and you immediately incline your head, seeking the warmth of his skin. It was moments like this you allowed yourself to dream, just a taste of what it could be if this was another reality. You briefly close your eyes, kissing the palm of his hand.
âSometimes it is,â His eyes hover over your face, then over your almost exposed breasts. The only thing keeping your kimono together was a sash around your waist; which was poorly tied. âSometimes it is not.â
Truth be told, he had become bolder with his actions in the past few weeks, not restraining his touches for only the bedroom. You had a hard time trying not blushing furiously while he fucked you on the kitchen counter one night; the fear of being caught turning you on more than it should â or when he kissed your hand in front of the servants the other night after inviting you to dance.
Thatâs why when you got ready you thought it wouldn't hurt being bold as well. And by the way he was looking at your legs, the hem of your kimono sliding over your thighs, it was working quite well.Â
In a swift motion, he grabs your wrist, pulling you into his lap. You donât fight against it, letting your legs straddle his thighs, gasping as your pussy rubs against his crotch, and you can feel heâs already hardening in his pants. You wrap your arms around his neck, throwing your head back to show off your neck â that it never has time to recover before having his mouth all over it again.
Kokushibou doesn't waste any more time; his hand is already tangled in your hair, yanking in sharp tugs while biting and sucking the tender but still bruised skin of your collar. The other hand is untying the knot of the sash in a quick motion. You arch against him, bucking your hips into the friction.Â
As soon as the kimono falls open, his mouth moves from your bruised neck down to your chest, leaving a trail of electricity at each kiss, lighting up all your body and forming a hot pool on your lower belly. He sucks one of your nipples and you roll your hips harder against him, moaning softly at his touch.Â
âI didn't know you liked to play with dolls, Kokushibou-dono.â
You literally jump on his lap as soon as your mind registers the voice, squealing as the embarrassment of being caught washes over you. Kokushibou is fast on his movements though, quickly grabbing the hem of the kimono to cover your breasts. You hold your arms in front of your body before taking a look at the owner of the voice.
âWhat are you doing here, Douma?â The cold and sharp tone of his voice is enough to cease all of the fire and lust that was still lingering on your body.Â
The man was standing a few steps away â at least he didn't have the audacity to come so close â His hair was so pale that it seemed silver under the moonlight; almost as long as Kokushibou too. His skin was also pretty pale. But what caught your attention was his eyes;Â An array of rainbow pastel tones coloring his iris; it is different from anything youâve seen, and you'd find it pretty if it wasn't for one detail.
He was definitely a Demon. And you had to curse yourself for, more often than not, forgetting about the fact that you lived amongst them. It was so easy to forget about problems like that when all you did was house work and sex. When there was no one in sight and no real danger to remember you that the world was actually a cruel place.
You notice that Douma, as Kokushibou called, is looking at you. At this point you shouldâve already been used to Demons studying you with their hunter eyes, but itâs impossible to get used when every glance was different, if Kokushibou glanced at you with desire, then Douma looked at you as his next prey, ready to rip your head off.Â
âOh, Iâm sorry for interrupting, it wasn't my intention!â He looks almost apologetic, but thereâs something about the way he moves his features, as if itâs all mechanical; rehearsed.
âWhat do you want?â Kokushibou's voice cuts the night like a knife, it makes your shoulders tense. You had never heard him this angry before.Â
You quickly get off of him, tying up the sash of your kimono again. Your legs tremble over the stare youâre receiving. Itâs cold and sadistic, the smile spreading on his face is creep, making you remember why you had to stay away from Demons in the first place.Â
âHmm, I was feeling sad for losing three of our friends in such a short period of time.â He dramatically sighs, wiping away fake tears from his eyes, âI came here seeking your comfort but it seems like you have already found someone else.â
He glances at you again, and this time you can taste the danger and perverse intentions exhaling from him. You quiver slightly under his gaze, fear feeling your veins. In some way, it reminds you of Muzan; even though he never hid his intentions, somehow, having a Demon that did that on purpose was even scarier.Â
âIf you look at her ever again Iâll cut your head off.â Kokushibou warns, getting up from the spot, his back muscles are tense, the hand around his katana is tight.Â
âOh, Kokushibou-dono, youâre no fun! I was just teasing!â He laughs, putting a hand over his chest, âSheâs indeed a fine piece of human, it would be a waste if something happened to her.â
Itâs a lie. And both you and Kokushibou know it. However, the Demon doesn't look at you anymore, showing how important Kokushivou's position was amongst the Demons, his status turned him into a God, old and powerful. You honestly don't know if it should calm you, or make you even more alarmed.Â
âY/N, wait for me in my bedroom.â He commands, walking towards the other Demon.
âYes, Kokushibou-dono.â Itâs the only thing you can say, turning around and almost running back to the house without looking back.Â
VI.
As the minutes ticked by, you could hear your own steps padding across the wooden floor, never stopping moving. Youâve tried to occupy your mind reading one of the books that were by the table, but the words didn't seem to make any sense, all blurry and twisted, the anxiety growing on your chest didn't make it easy either. You bite your nails again, feeling the fear creeping into your mind.Â
For how long have you been walking in circles?Â
The still lingering feeling of Doumaâs predatory eyes spreads goosebumps all over your skin. He represents a different type of danger, if Muzan was violence and Kokushibou was dominance, the blonde was something as cold as ice, the type that burns your lungs when you try to breathe. His smile was just a facade; you wonder if people even believe in it â they definitely did.
However, you knew that the Demons didn't walk in groups, and they were mostly too narcissistic to even have friends. To have one coming in Kokushibouâs house was definitely a bad sign. Well, a bad sign for them. You had caught the servants whispering a few humors around the house but never paid any attention to them. Maybe you shouldâve. Because now the idea of leaving this place, leaving Kokushibou, it didn't sit right in your mind â nor in your heart.
The sound of the door opening brings you to the present, immediately making you come to a stop. You hold your hands on your back, still feeling anxious about the situation â your gut telling you that something was definitely off. Holding your breath as Kokushibou steps in the room, you notice his eyes are a shade darker, jaw clenched tightly.Â
You anxiously wait for him to say something, however, Kokushibou doesn't even look at you. Instead, he makes his way to the table by the corner of the room, quickly pouring himself a glass of his favorite beverage. You press your lips together, feeling the tension that has spread through the room starting to suffocate you. Something was definitely wrong, but you suspect Kokushibou wasnât going to tell you, so you donât bother asking.
He swallows down the entire liquid in one single gulp, setting down the glass with so much force that it makes you jump by the violence of the act. Kokushibou was angry. Your mind, for the first time in months, turns on the sirens that had been long forgotten since you started being intimate with the man. They are loud in your head and you canât ignore the way your body starts to shake slightly.
You hated the taste that it left in your mouth, hated the way your body stiffened when he moved to pour himself another drink. Hated to remember that no matter what, your life wasn't normal. It was moments like this that made you rethink everything that youâve done up until this point â if you even had made the right decision. You take a glance from the corner of your eyes, Kokushibou is holding another empty glass staring at the wall, the muscles on his arms are tensed at a point of breaking the glass.
âIâll leave you alone, Kokushibou-dono.â It comes out weak and hesitant, your body building up a tension that goes down to your nerves.Â
Kokushibou dosenât say anything, doesn't look. And somehow you feel small, betrayed. Pressing your lips together, you close your eyes for a moment. It wasn't unusual that neither of you knew how to have a conversation, but this was just too much. You could sense the pressure of his hostility, taste the blood in your mouth. Whatever Douma told him it wasn't good news. You just hoped he wouldn't lash that angriness on you.
The thought makes you shiver, memories flooding your mind as the sound of the glass against the wooden table makes you jump again. This is bad, this is so bad. You thought you were safe; that those men and their angry fists and mean words were left behind â that they couldn't reach you here. Your heart beats faster in your chest, breathing starting to come out unseasy. You canât go through that, not again. As anxiety starts to take over, you walk towards the door in quick steps.
âStay.â
You stop by the door, hand holding the handle. Sweat runs down your forehead and you canât bring yourself to look at the man. Thereâs a tiny chance that if you do, you will want to run, to put as much distance as you can between you and the predator Kokushibou actually is. You hesitate for a moment before letting go of the handle â even though you wanted to leave, he was still your lord, and you had to do whatever he asked.Â
In a blink of an eye heâs standing right behind you, hands resting on your waist. You stiffen even harder as you feel his hot breath on your neck. It was so easy to get lost in the moment, to look at his face and not find anything strange, to continue to live your life in peace when the outside world was dipped in chaos and cruelty; molded by the hands of the same man who touches you so intimately.Â
Your breath is caught on your throat when he kisses your nape, but the shuddering that takes over your body isn't good; it leaves you feeling cold and weird, caged by his hands and the door. Thereâs nothing you can do but try to fight those sensations from rising â the last thing you want is to make Kokushibou even angrier.Â
âY/N,â Kokushibou calls your name, and you hate the way you flinch; the blatantly display of fear makes you even more tense.Â
Kokushibou holds your elbow, motioning for you to turn around. As you shift your body, your eyes fall to his chest, locked in the pattern of his kimono. Staring at him right now isn't a good idea, the reminder of your situation written all over his face. He studies you for a moment before speaking.Â
âIâm not angry with you,â He says gently, slowly raising his hand, âI don't think I could ever be angry with you.â His touch is tender, the back of his fingers caressing your cheek so gently you find yourself relaxing under his touch.
The coldness of the room melts away as the warmth of his words hits your heart. The sirens come to a stop, leaving your head in complete silence. You lift your eyes to stare at him, and even if Kokushibou was hard to read sometimes because of the amount of eyes instead of skin, the look on his face was definitely softer, and you could swear there was a hint of smile on his lips. Your heart throbs with the sight.
Kokushibou has never treated you like a whore. He wasn't like those men.
For your surprise, itâs you who move first. Wrapping your hands around his neck and bringing him closer. You brush your lips against his while inhaling his musk scent. Kokushibou pulls you closer, wrapping his arms around your waist and holds you in a tight grip; itâs almost suffocating the way his firm body presses on yours â almost as if heâs afraid that youâre going to leave. But you quickly discard the thought.Â
Kokushibou is never afraid⌠Right?
You lean closer, forehead tenderly touching in between the first row of his eyes. You get lost in the heat of the moment; the act is so intimate you have to close your eyes. His breath dances around your face while your fingers rub gently his jaw, easing the tension that had settled there a few minutes ago. He hums with the touch, and if you didn't know any better, you would say you effectively calmed him down. But you don't have that kind of effect on him, do you?
The kiss is chaste, almost innocent. It was a first time for you, kissing someone this way, wearing your emotions on your sleeve without even noticing. And you decide that it feels good, taking your time to savour each part of him without worrying about the next step.Â
And he lets you kiss him as much as you want, only tilting his head so you have better access to his mouth. You had never kissed Kokushibou so calmly before, without second intentions. It overflows you with feelings you didn't know that even existed, it was more than desire, more than lust. However, you push those thoughts for another time, now you were too focused on the flavour of his lips.Â
He holds you tight, hands traveling down your back, slightly squeezing your ass in the process, and you breathlessly moan in his mouth, âMay we continue what we started?â Kokushibou asks, leaving small trails of kisses along your jaw.Â
And just like that, all the hesitation leaves your body. He was asking you, like the first time months ago. Itâs a strange feeling, knowing that on some kind of level, he actually cared about you; about what you wanted. As you stop to think about, he never forced you to do anything you didn't want to. Sometimes you would hesitate, yes, but the final word was always yours.Â
You nod, letting him guide you to the futon. And maybe the reason why you trusted him so blindly was because he cared enough to listen. Something that no one has ever done before. Althought it was terrible that you could excuse murder for just a tiny bit of Kokushibou affetion, you couldn't help but feel good in his arms, stability in his words.Â
This time you decide to stay on top, straddling his thighs as soon as he sits on the futon. Kokushibou doesn't seem to mind, seeking your mouth instead of aiming for your neck. And you lose yourself in his taste, letting his tongue travel around your mouth, sliding against your own. You softly moan as he grinds against your pussy, his erection getting harder as you rock your hips forward.Â
Kokushibou quickly unties the knot of the sash, and you let the kimono fall on to the floor. The heat on your lower belly starts to boil, building you up deliciously slow. Then, his mouth is on your left breast, biting and sucking gingerly while you grind on his crotch, pussy pulsing already. Your fingers curl on his hair, tugging harder as he pinches the other one.
âAah, Kokushibou,â You throw your head back, intense hunger taking over you, âI need you, now.â
Kokushibou growls with your request, devouring your mouth like a man who hasn't eaten for days, and you take his carnal need with delight, sobbing when he bites down your lower lip. Suddenly, the tender atmosphere shifts, red fills your vision as he thrusts his hips upwards, grinding on your pussy, and it doesn't take long for you to become a mess of moans.
His clothes are quickly discarded, and you immediately wrap your hand around his cock, feeling each vein and muscle as you start to stroke him. You liked the weight and the build, the way it twists in your hand when you turn your wrist just right â only you could do this to him, and somehow it fills you with pride.Â
You wanted to suck him off but right now you were taken by a need to have him inside you. It leaves you drunk with him; his scent clouds your head, and all you can do is feel every inch of his strong body against yours, rubbing on your hardened nipples. Sweat runs down your back and youâre so sensitive that even the brush of his finger on your clit makes you shudder, pulsing for something more.
You take the opportunity to kiss his neck while you run your hand down to his balls, he groans as you continue to stoke him, hands gripping your hips so tight it might leave marks; but you were already used to those â and strangely enough you want them more than ever. Positioning yourself above him, you hold one of his shoulders for balance while the other guides his cock to your entrance.Â
Kokushibou holds your hips as you go down on him, groaning while watching you take all his length in one swift motion. You roll your eyes when his cock hits the deepest part of you, filling you up the way you most liked it. He stops you from moving though, taking his time to enjoy the feeling of your walls clenching around him.
âYouâre so good,â He praises, âSo perfect for me.â
Tears prick at the corner of your eyes and you donât know why you are so sensitive today. A realization sinks on your stomach as you watch him behind heavy lids, his mouth red and swollen from your kisses, his hair was a mess, the once perfect ponytail now was in a disarray; the sight makes something itch under your skin.Â
You reach for his face, involving his neck with one hand while the other tugs free the piece that holds his hair together. Kokushibou doesn't protest, doesn't move. Rather, he watches in amusement as you take a good look at him for the first time with his hair down. Your breath gets caught up on your throat.
He was the one who was perfect.Â
âYouâre so beautiful, Kokushibou.â It leaves you speechless. It wasnât fair how astonishing his beauty was, almost from another world.Â
You could stay like this forever, staring at him like he was a God â worshiping him as if it was your only salvation. His hair falls on his back, and somehow he looks way younger like that, it frames his face flawlessly; and you have to suppress the desire to run your fingers through his hair for the rest of the night.
Then, you look at him, really look at him. Past those six eyes, beyond the black, the red and yellow; for who he once was. Maybe in another life you would be graced with the luck to meet him again, under different circumstances, being able to love him for the person he truly was. Love. Your mind freezes as the word appears from the deepest part of you.
Kokushibou smiles softly, leaning closer to kiss you. And you take his mouth like a gift from up above. You run your tongue over his lips, his teeth, drinking him up like the most delicious wine you could ever taste. For now, you were more than satisfied with what you got.
You can feel his cock throbbing inside you, but instead of moving, you pull back from his mouth. Right now you just wanted to give everything you could, wanted him to feel everything you would never be able to say. You hold his face, lifting just a little to reach the first eye.Â
Softly, as if you were holding something fragile, you kiss his eyelid. And then the other, then the other. You make your way down his face, putting devotion on each touch, each kiss carrying a different type of emotion. It makes him sigh every time your lips meet his eyelids. It was still too soon to say anything, but if the words appeared in your mind, then maybe it wasn't impossible.Â
After all his six eyes received their deserved attention, you leave another chaste kiss on his mouth. But Kokushibou doesn't let you go far away, pulling you for an open mouth kiss that leaves you breathless. He devours your mouth with such a hunger you think you might come just from that. Heâs desperate on his touch, savoring you as if you were going to disappear. You do your best to match his rhythm, trying to tell him that you weren't going anywhere, that your place was here, by his side.Â
His cock throbs inside you again, and you take that as a cue to finally start moving. It starts quite slowly, you move your hips lazily, riding him while breathing heavily through your nose, eyes rolling to the back of your head as each drag of his cock makes you see stars. Kokushibou holds your hips, guiding you to keep moving; he watches you so intensely it makes you blush furiously.
âYou take me so exceptionally,â He bites down on your earlobe, âI could watch you ride me all day.â
You moan from his words, they were making you feel hotter than normal. Maybe you did like when he praised you, when he would let his guard down. It showed that he liked and trusted this arrangement as much as you did. Perhaps it wasn't impossible then, love.Â
Kokushibou kisses you deeply between muffled moans, picking up the pace. He wraps his arms tightly around your waist and thrusts harder, pounding his cock inside you with enough force that you feel yourself hanging on your sanity by a thin thread.
âOhânnh, Kokushibou!â You cry out, âBite me, mark me.â
You donât know where that need came from, however it spreads through your body as quickly as fire spreads through a forest. Realization hits you as he moans on your neck, you wanted to be owned by him so badly â and you would have laughed about how head over heels you were for this man if you were lucid enough.
Kokushibou bites down on your shoulder. It breaks your skin but it doesn't sting. Rather, it sends shivers down the impossibly heated pool on your lower belly. Then he bites down again, and again. You desperately moan louder each time â Kokushibou wanted you to be his too, and it sinks down into your bones, down to your core.Â
Your nails scratch viciously at his shoulder, slicing red marks into his skin. He sucks and lickes all the bites, and even though you can feel blood running down your back, youâre happy. Somehow you were his, and thatâs all that matters.
âCome for me, Y/N.â Kokushibou whispers, hungrily kissing you.
Your whine on his mouth, and even though you didn't want the moment to end, you felt like you were going to explode if you didn't come. Feverishly, your pussy tightens around his cock, your mouth opens but no sounds come out of it.Â
Your orgams runs trought your body like a lighting, igniting every single nerve just to come crashing into you in a wave of relief. Kokushibou follows right after, growling in your ear. He thrusts deeper, coming inside you hot and heavy.Â
Kokushibou pulls you with him to lie on the futon, you whimper as he slowly pulls out of you with a wet sound; his come drips down your pussy. You try to catch your breath, the afterglow lingering in your body so deliciously you canât bring yourself to move. He rubs your waist with his thumb while you nuzzle his neck with your nose, hands caressing his chest.Â
It feels different this time, the way his fingers brush your skin, how tender and fragil the air around you two feel. It fills you with joy, having him touching you like that, taking care of you after sex. As if you were something more. As if he liked you.Â
You kiss his neck, then his shoulder, spreading small pecks along his collarbone. Blame the afterglow, blame the bubbling feeling in your chest, blame whatever you want. Damn it, you were happy. Kokushibou hums, stroking your back affectionately; definitely content with your pampering.Â
Something crosses your mind, and before you can stop the words from coming out of your mouth, they are already out.
"What did Douma want?â You suddenly ask, feeling him tense under your body. Well, maybe you shouldn't have said anything, what a nice way to mess up a perfect moment.Â
âGo to sleep, Y/N.â Kokushibou dismisses, you feel guilty when he stops stroking your back.
âIs everything alright?â You try again, the need to have an affirmation that nothing was going to change takes over your soul.Â
âI told you to go to sleep.â
You fall silent, biting down your lips to prevent from saying anything else. You knew you shouldn't mingle in his business. However, you couldn't just ignore the fact that he was on the verge of snapping when he entered the room. The excruciating feeling creeping in your guts wouldn't let you sleep, you needed to know.
You hear Kokushibou sighing before speaking, âMuzan-sama is summoning me, I'll be back in a few days, that's all.â
You turn your head to look at him. His eyes are closed but there's a hint of uneasiness in his features. Muzan was a tough person to deal with it, you knew that very well. However, you couldnât stop thinking that there was something more between the lines. You wouldâve to talk with the servants if you wanted to know because the man clearly wasn't going to tell you.
In a gentle motion, you cup his jaw with one hand, only two of his eyes open with the gesture, watching you behind long lashes. Kokushibouâs hair is spread in the sheets, a pool of dark hair surring him like a dark aura; with hints of red on the tips. You ran your hand through his long and beautiful hair, itâs silk and smooth to the touch; just like you expected. He goes back to stroke your back, and you donât fight the tiny smile from forming on your lips.
You look at him, but nothing comes out of your mouth. It's on the tip of your tongue, begging to be freed from its cage. Itâs an overflowing feeling that fills your chest, padding each hole that life had once torn it open. Itâs delicate, like your chest is filled with an intense light that shines through every pore.
Rather than speaking, you lean closer, capturing Kokushibouâs lips once again and diving in for a kiss. His lips feel soft on yours, still wet from the previous activity. He kisses you with vigor and youâve to heavily breathe through your nose to not break the kiss. You wanted this to last as long as it could.Â
Thereâs no tongue, only your lips meeting his in a soft and very intimate act. It feels pure somehow, how your hand caresses his jaw as Kokushibou sucks slightly your bottom lips. And you decide that you should kiss him like this more often from now on.
You pull away, breathing heavily. If the smirk on his face was a signal that he understood what you wanted to say, then it was enough. Snuggling your nose on his neck, you close your eyes, getting lost on his scent as fatigue starts to take over your body.Â
âGood night, Kokushibou."
"Good night, Y/N."
VII.
You shouldâve known something was wrong when Kokushibou kissed you in front of everyone before leaving. His hands cupped your face, kissing you so tenderly that you sighed as soon as he retread, missing his touch already. The gasps and shocked looks from the rest of the servants didn't bother you; what did bother you was the dread feeling eating you from inside out. You watched him go, disappearing in the distance until you couldn't see his silhouette anymore.Â
The moon shone bright in the night, the flowers swung with the wind. But the air was tense, carrying an intense trepidation that left you shivering on the spot. Your gut ached with apprehension.
You shouldâve known something was wrong when that same night you weren't able to sleep, nor the other ones. Without his warmth, without his body, without him. You haven't realized until now how you had become dependent on the man. You also weren't eating, dark circles adorned your eyes, and even when the servants asked for you to at least drink some tea, you couldn't find the strength. Not even their voices you were able to register, caught in a dark void that inebriated all your senses.Â
Not one, nor two, but three weeks passed and there was no sign of him. You would sit in the front of the house every night, waiting for his return.Â
But Kokushibou never came back.
You knew something had gone wrong when you saw the banner of the Demon Slayer in the distance, moving so painfully slow that you could count your heartbeats in the fraction of time they took to make their way to the entrance of the house. Someone shouted, there was the sound of something crashing on the wooden floor, you sensed someone touching your shoulder, speaking enthusiastically, motioning to the group of people that were now crossing the yard with huge smiles on their faces.
Suddenly, it was winter.Â
Your body starts to shake violently, the air that enters your lungs is suffocating, like sharp knives stabbing your body repeatedly. You shook your head, holding your hands together in a prayer. Please, let my gut be wrong just this time. For all those weeks you never allowed yourself to think about a scenario like this; never allowed the dread feeling to take over your mind, the trepidation ran in your veins but you didn't let it poison you.Â
This couldn't be. No, it was impossible. Kokushibou wasn't⌠Although, deep down you already knew the answer. Denying it was what made you tolerate the way the moon and the sun change places in the sky; the cold nights, the tasteless food, the insufferably voices of the servants. It was what prevented you from collapsing completely â however, now there was nothing preventing you from finally stepping to the edge of the cliff.
Someone touches your hand, it takes a few minutes for you to process who it was. The old lady holds your hands in hers, her smile doesn't settle right in your stomach, it sickens you instead.
âYou are free, honey. He will never use you like that anymore.â She says in a sweet tone but itâs too sugary, too much for your palate.Â
âWhat...â Your frown, feeling your skin crawl underneath her touch.
âItâs okay, Y/N. We all knew what he was doing to youâŚâ
âNo, youâre wrong,â You shout, face twisting in a scowl. You retreat your hands as if she had burned them, the implication of that phrase cutting deep to your bone, âI wanted him, I loved him!â
You canât process what you just said, you canât process that it took this long to say something so simple. The old lady looks at you with pity, as if she understands how you were feeling better than yourself, as if she knew you. She tries to hold your hand again, saying something you canât comprehend, her touch is sickening, it feels wrong.Â
âDonât touch me.â You warn, stepping back. Your heart is in your throat, it burns to speak, it burns to breathe.Â
The other servants stop their chatting to stare at you, some of them look disgusted; as if you had become a Demon too. Thereâs a nauseating silence but you can read each one of their thoughts, you donât notice when your hands start to clench on your sides. You canât stand it anymore. Panicking, you run to the only place you knew they wouldn't follow; his bedroom.
Youâre trembling, knees almost giving in when you arrived at his door. No air enters your lungs; they are on the verge of collapsing. It hurts, it hurts more than any punch youâve ever received, it hurts more than all the wrong decisions you had made in your entire life. It cruelly crushes your heart â tore it apart as if it was just made of paper â it wasn't strong enough to endure another change.
Impulsively, you find yourself opening the drawer where he kept his clothes, grabbing the beautiful piece of purple kimono he was always wearing. You run your hand through the fabric, the simple pattern brings a sense of melancholy; the taste of memories is so bitter on your tongue that you canât keep standing. Your knees hit the ground in a loud and painful thud.
You bury your face in the fabric, screaming to the world, to the universe. Screaming until your voice was gone, until you couldn't hear anything but your own agonizing sound, lost in a sea of excruciating pain. You were drowning again, but this time there was no one to save you â misery corrodes your foundation, making all that youâve built up until this moment come crashing down on you.
Life was never going to give you an option, was it?
His scent was still strong in the bedroom, on the kimono. You take a deep breath, trying to hold into something, anything. However, it does the completely opposite. It fills you with memories, shooting through your mind like bullets. They hit you countless times, each one more painful than the other. A broken sob escapes your lips.
You remember his touch, his voice, his body. But mostly, you remember the feeling of being with Kokushibou. It has always been peaceful, it has always felt good. In only a few months you were able to finally begin to be yourself, to finally dream. You remember his tiny smile, the way his hair swung when he walked, the way he touched you, the way he looked at you.Â
You loved him. You really loved him. And even if Kokushibou didn't feel the same, he still gave you everything you wanted, a house, a peaceful life you always fought for, and the most important thing; he gave you affection. He took care of you when you thought the entire world was against you. You were selfish for wanting him to live forever, for wanting a Demon to continue to live, you knew that, but your heart didn't; it screamed for him to come back.
Nothing lasts forever, so why did you think he was an exception?Â
It was an illusion that this could go on until you died. Another broken sob comes ripping your insides until it escapes your lips. It was all false. The tears come in large drops, dripping down into his kimono as you continue to scream. They crash and burn, making your body quiver with the intensity.Â
Kokushibou was gone. He wasn't coming back to sleep by your side, to take care of you. He wasn't coming back to run his finger through your hair, to kiss you when you needed it. He wasn't coming back to touch you and love you.
For days the sky felt dull, as if an eclipse had settled in front of the moon and the sun, leaving you in an eternal twilight; the long nights and the colorless days. It aches your soul, the deep cuts were torn open, and now were bleeding nonstop, and you feel like dying from those injuries.Â
When the night comes, youâre still crying. Everything feels false, your hands, his scent, reality. You can feel your body, canât feel your face. You try to walk over the window by the corridor, trying to find some form of comfort, anything to put the pain to a stop. But it breaks your heart all the same.
Tonight, there was no moon to gleam over the darkness of the night.
âWhat the fuck were you spitting out there hmm! Have you lost your mind? Why arenât you answering me you shit!â
jaehyun avoided prying when mark and yuta were arguing but he couldnât keep it in anymore. mark shifted the gears to park the car in the middle of nowhere, tense silence hugging all of them. jaemin was annoyed with jaehyunâs endless remarks at mark but it was hyuck who was most confused as he was unable to form any kind of judgement.
âwhy did you stop the car now? Its midnight-
âcan you stop drunk talking hyung. I canât drive like this!â
âIâm very sober. Its you whose brain is dead mark. Did you even notice yutaâs face when you-
âjust stop hyung. Iâm not ashamed of what I said there. I stand by each and every word! Now can we go back home or do you have anything else?
âyou canât be real! He has done so much for you all these years and this is how you repa-
âyes exactly! He has made so many sacrifices for me all these years, thatâs why its my responsibility to show him the right way that he is clearly not following at all and you all are partly responsible for it! You are feeding his selfish ego by showing him hollow sympathy but thatâs gonna bite him in the ass at end.â
âwoah woah tiger. So what you gonna do? Instruct him how to live his life. Are you making him realise that he doesnât hate y/n when he clearly cant stand her presence for even a minute and by some miracle, even if you end up pacifying yuta, then what about that cold hearted queen! Sheâs just here t-
âshe is not here on her own! And I am not going to repeat myself, so fix it in your head hyung. She is not here to replace anyone!! Yuta hyung just hates the thought of her coerced and fortuitous presence in his life and Iâm not trying to create a miracle here. I just want our lives back to normal and Iâll go to every extent to make it possible!â his chest heaved up and down as the anger subsided a bit, his heart feeling at ease after getting his thoughts out. Jaehyun only scoffed at him.
âyou are too naĂŻve markie. This is not how emotions work.â
âthis is the only way emotions work hyung!â with that said, he shifted the gear, driving on the road with the same silence lurking again but he felt better. much better.
âwho do you think is right?â hyuck whispered in jaeminâs ear, in the hope that he would solve his dilemma.
âI donât know but Iâd love if she stays forever. We are missing one member anywayâ he whispered back earning a small tight lip smile from donghyuck who fell into a deep slumber right after that.
Slowly he moved himself to the other side, bruised elbow secured in his hand, grunts exiting him. You knew you were fucked up as soon as his cold eyes fell upon you.
âI guess itâs my time to call taeyong.â He glared, the strong eye contact not lasting for too long as he tried to lift himself up from the floor.
Meanwhile you kept observing him, biting your left thumb, feet glued to the ground. your eyes followed his hobbled travel from the kitchen to the couches from where you heard his long sigh of relief as he placed his leg on the table while stroking his knee. his head fell on the couches and suddenly your conscience kicked in while watching his painful expressions. You found yourself sluggishly walking out of the kitchen with careful steps to avoid the spill, sleepiness fading away.
Yutaâs scraped elbow was in the vision as you neared him. He was still nursing his knee, elbow forgotten by now. Maybe it was the momentary pain! you deliberated about asking him first but then remembered that you donât have to communicate with him to show that you were still human! So you quietly went to bathroom to find your first aid kit that you placed somewhere the day you settled your stuff. It was not easy to locate it with the lack of cooperation of your hands and mind in the current state, but still you tried your best.
With same motion you went back. Yutaâs hand was still cupping the knee but his features seemed to be much more peaceful than before. But you still approached hesitantly and placed the box on the table, near his foot.
âhave a seat please. We have some unfinished business here beautiful!â he sneered, signalling you to sit beside him.
âno thanks. I have work to do.â You tiredly replied, moving away.
âI.Said.Sit.Here! I also wanna experience the thrill of whinning like a baby!
âoh please , I have nothing to fear! Just call him already. Iâve work to do!â you told him in stern voice while circling the table to sit far away from him.
Yuta smirked a little at your show of bravery when anyone could see right through you at the moment. Your eyes were half shut, shoulders slumped down but still upright when it came to fighting him. But yuta clearly knew he had the upper hand this time.
Or he thought!
Your heartbeat sped up with each ring. Very dramatically , yuta had put the phone on speaker to prove his point.
After 5 rings, tayeong picked up and so did your pulse.
âwho it is?â a yawn filled voice was heard from the other side.
âare you still sleeping bitch?â yuta inquired with annoyance.
âye-yes. We cleared the month last night so everyone is sleeping. What el-
âjust wake up! Iâve something important to tell!â
âlater. Iâm bus-
âits about your precious y/n!â
âis she gone?â it sounded like he was suddenly awake!
âtsk tsk. The fuck is your problem? Do you even care about my wellbeing or should I find a new father!â yuta growled at him, his voice pierced through your ears.
âIâll call her myself!â
âlike she would tell you about her plan to lay my 6 feet under the ground!â
Yuta heard a deep sigh from the other side.
âthis story better be good coz I donât wanna lose my sleep ov-
âthis is not a story. She spilled water to make me slip and â
âand kill you. what kind of man dies after a little slipping! Huh!â
âhave you adopted her or something taeyong! Your attitude is fucking me up. Can you hear me for once or do you-
âwhat do you wanna say exactly! That you slipped and broke your legs and arms. Make it believable yuta. She might be a bit bitchy but canât be that evil.â
âso I am a bitch!â your sleepy and cold voice interrupted.
âno no , I meant-
âIt was unintentional. i didnât even know he was home. And it was him who decided to barge in when I was finding food. He was not even invited into the kitchen in the first place!â
âbut I got hurt and it was because-
âhurt? you mean as in injured! Oh god. You canât come back then. take leave for a few days if you are hurt badly and call jun , heâll be there with medicines and bandages. Consider this an extension of the suspension but you arenât leaving the hous-
âfuck you taeyong! I hope you die in your sleep!!â
Slamming the phone on the table, he pulled at his roots, lidded eyes boring into you.
âyouâll pay for this.â his finger threateningly pointed towards you.
You let out a yawn before getting up to leave the space to him,
âwhatever just donât finish the spray bottle. Its newâ
After that you didnât hear anything from yuta or anyone.
And it just went like that for 2 more weeks!
âwhy donât you shift to the dorms for two months! You can hang out with minjun while he complete his reports.â
âso you want me to lose my sleep and baby your baby?â you snickered, slurping the soup a bit louder this time.
âIâm not a baby!â minjun whined.
âoh you are!â a collective response resounded through the room and your reached out to pet minjunâs hair but he swatted your hand away in annoyance.
âno seriously shortie. Youâd be alone for a whole month. Even chelin is going home this time. you can spend some time with junie and heâd treat you to homemade food Is it tempting enough?â jungkook suggested.
ânot that Iâm any interested in the offer but I can teach you the Japanese you were talking about earlier.â At minjunâs comment, everyone raised their brows, silently questioning your new interest.
âwhat? You all are so nosy. My new roommate is always dissing me in Japanese and I canât answer that fucker coz I donât understand anything he spits out at me.â
âHE?â another group chant resonated.
âwhy is your roommate a man?â yugyeom added.
âbecause he was born a man!â
âhaha very funny y/n l/n. whatâs his name and is he from our university?â
âhis name is nakamoto yuta and no, heâs not a student. And before you enquire, heâs home only for like few hours so you donât need to worry him being a pervert or anything.â
âwhere is your new residence anyway?â you almost choked at yugyeomâs sudden interruption but it confirmed your suspicion that jungkook hadnât revealed anything yet.
âinstead of me, shouldnât you love birds be worried about the unbearable separation thatâd last for a whole month. How are you gonna cope with it gyeom? Especially when yeong is going to be in Incheon and you in busan, stuck with the sweaty sports team and jungkook, whoâd be slapping with you with kisses every now and then, thinking you are min-
A shove of dumpling into your mouth caused you to inhale back all the words that were supposed to leave.
âif you donât wanna meet, then atleast call him daily after your moon internship and he can also accompany you to busan if you want.â
The colour of the air faded at the mention. Slowly, you swallowed the piece in your mouth , instantly finding a distraction to lighten the mood.
âwhy are these so delicious?â
Rummaging through the empty boxes, jungkook found the pamphlet and shoved it in your face which you curled into a ball and threw towards minjun, hitting him right in the face.
âyaa jun. keep it safe. Weâll order while watching movies and take keys of this house from your boyfriend,â you ordered, pointing to jungkook, âand his Netflix password and his wallet and if he allows, his car ke-
âshut your mouth love-hater!â jungkook exclaimed while stuffing your mouth with two dumplings. And everyone else just laughed at your troubled state, silently agreeing with jungkookâs statement.
What a good day to be a foodie!
Three days!
Taeil had granted you three days to de-stress yourself before youâd be joining your so called trainer for a self defence training program of two months. You wondered who could it be but it was definitely not the person you wished for! Johnny had been in france since two weeks, right from the day your exams started. He left his phone at home but he did contact you through a payphone to wish luck for exams. Since then, itâd been complete silence from the other end. You didnât even know whether you really missed his presence or just the thought of being with someone who really showed some care for you. Â
eat, tv, sleep repeat seemed to be a very reasonable routine! your happiness had elevated when you saw a notification of chois about a job opening. Though you wanted to start from an internship in the main office but a moderate salary job as an assistant researcher of a junior lawyer wasnât so bad as well!
no. actually it was awful seeing how much over-qualified you were for this job but with all the diminishing digits in your wallet, there was some significant scope for the bargain in your situation. But you still had to wait for 2 weeks for the acceptance of your application that would take you a step closer to your dream. Just two more weeks!
Is he still alive, you thought before leaving the kitchen, ready to finish the homemade meal.
High on a happy chemical , you cooked yourself ramyeon and eggs and completed your fancy dinner with a bottle of coke.
While slipping out of the kitchen , your eyes fell on the clean sink reminding you of the presence that you hadnât felt since the last week.
âIâll accompany jeno. Weâll be done in two minutesâ yuta proposed with a lopsided grin.
The place was more livelier with yutaâs return. Not that he wasnât already present, but the day he returned to his usual routine was when everyone got their sunshine back. He acted like nothing has changed but still noone could ignore his overcautiousness. He was engaging too much as if to make up for the lost time and not that anyone objected for they were happy to see the old yuta with old ways. Just something was odd!
While most of them were oblivious, others understood what he was hiding behind that façade. They had noticed how he took late night activities just to avoid being sent home or how he took jaehyun and mark with him to avoid any interaction with you.
But the most irksome was how day by day,he was drifting apart from taeyong.
âdo you wanna take him home?â taeil snapped his fingers in front of your eyes as you registered his words. You were looking or shamelessly staring at the face of the man. He was dangerously tall as compared to you but his face was shining brighter than the sun itself. Your head snapped towards him again as taeil went on,
âdonât stare like you are gonna eat him y/n.â jungwoo eyes were dancing in the whole room as he avoided your curious ones. You didnât mean to be creepy but you were having a hard time believing that the man sitting in front of you was a street fight champ and a former drug lordâs son. He seemed tooâŚ.human.
âwhoâs staring?â you feigned innocence, looking at taeil.
âway to go advocate!â he said before continuing , âas I told you, jungwoo is a trained fighter, assassin and has a strong grip on pistols. Seeing what you can carry, a pistol is best for you. and jungwoo is a softie here so he wonât even give you a scratch during the training. But you have to actually listen to him or Iâll assign someone that wonât go easy on you.
âlike?â
âlike ten or jeno, they both donât have any control over where they are hitting once they start so either you can cooperate with jungwoo or be ready to break some of your limbs.â
âhow subtle taeil. but I can work with him.â you smiled at jungwoo which was returned with a shy one.
âokay then. Take care of each other and if you need anything then Iâm not home.â Ad with a wave , he was gone.
âwhat do you wanna start with?â jungwoo asked in a small voice.
âyou are teacher so whatever you say.â
âokay them. weâll start with grip practice.â He got up, signalling you to follow him.
You ended up in a small part of the basement. It was divided into two sections with a glass used as the separation. Raw grass kind hard padding was attached to the walls on the both sides. On the other side of the wall were pasted two targets looking like giant sized dart boards that you suppose were for the practice.
While you were glancing around, jungwoo came back with a small metal box. He opened it to reveal a matt black pistol that looked even smaller when he held it.
âyou canât start with a semi-auto one just yet so for basics this is good for you. though Iâm here but please donât drop it. it belongs to taeyong hyung and he doesnât know itâs here so please donât mention it either.â He pleaded in a soft voice to which you found yourself nodding, copying his motion.
âso , you donât need to memorise every part of a pistol but remember the few terms so if you ever held a new gun or pistol, someone can instruct you as to the handling of it.â you kept nodded as he went on,
âthis is the exposed barrel, slide stop, safety lever , trigger and trigger guard and the most important magazine, if its empty ,your body would become the home of enemy bullets. Try clicking the safety lever!â
You did as he instructed. For about thirty minutes, he taught about pulling the barrel that drained your wrists of all the strength they had. He let you go only when he was sure you wonât forget the basics, atleast not until tomorrow.
You hadnât felt this exhausted in your life as much as you did in the last week. If Thesis research and jungwooâs lessons were not enough then minjunâs new found love of photography was surely doing its work on your body. Who knew holding flowers and leaves for aesthetic photos was so much draining! And the time you were alone at home was spent sleeping and that too only if yuta and his gang were not screeching out their lungs, fighting with someone online with no regard for the well-being of others in the house. You knew he was aware of his actions but with zero communication, even you didnât bother pointing him out.
But when had avoidance created peace!
12:30 p.m
As you flipped the glossy leaves of the photo album, the three humans behind that transparent film seemed to come alive, albeit in your memories. Pausing at every page, you tried to live those moments once again ,just like every year. Though you and that photo album were bound by a thread of sadness, the memories it contained made you feel immense joy that was incomparable for you.
The small album was the only memory that reminded you of the family you had once! and today was the day youâll go to meet them again.
Busan was not that far away but the location of the graveyard added a whole hour to the already 3 hour long journey. You were supposed to meet your orphan warden at the station directly and like every year she'd be accompanying you to Busan so you could meet them. Even though you were a grown-up now , she didn't had the heart to let you go alone. So it had became a tradition.
After memorizing every picture, you got up to get ready for the long journey. Taeil had excused you for this weekend so there were no worries from his side. you rotated the doorknob to open but it didnât budge.
You shoved your body against the door but nothing happned! Though you didn't want to rely , there was only one option left!
"yuta!" You shouted in a hope that his lazy ass would respond but silence replied instead.
"yuta! Can you hear me. I'm locked!" You tried again, both shouting and trying the knob, banged the door but none worked in your favour.
Then realisation dawned on you! Why won't he hear anything when he was right outside the room! because he didn't want to!
"yuta I swear I'm gonna kill you! let me out!"
Raking your hands through your hair, you decided to find your phone but it looked like the whole universe was conspiring against you as the phone was not in the room. you had probably left it on the kitchen counter earlier. The only communication you had was with yuta and he was not listening to you , delibrately!
Your fist met the door with all the power you could muster but only the echo was heard which fainted within few seconds.
"fuck you yuta" you mumbled dejectedly before throwing yourself on the mattress. Contempt filled your heart as you watched the fan moving endlessly and your mind grasped the reality that maybe you won't be visiting them. Not if he didn't open the door. But he couldn't lock you for years!
And whenever that door opens , you'll make sure to close it forever.
"eat slugs , haechan!" Yuta exclaimed into the microphone, killing another of haechan's Avatar in the game. He winced as haechan groaned loudly, trying to get some pity out of yuta.
Calling it a day, he teared the headphones away , the sudden silence bringing peace to his ears. Stretching his limbs, he got up but as he trudged for the kitchen, he heard a knock that didn't come from the front door.
He stopped abruptly as if to check if his mind was playing games on him but he heard it again, this time a fainted one.
His stopped in front of your room and slapped his hand against the door , checking his suspicious. Another fast and hard bang came in response and he rotated the knob to open but nothing happened. Forcing his body against the door, a metal dropping sound reached him before the door opened. Without even glancing at you, he leaned and picked up the screws that were stuck in the door hinges. But before he could show you those, you pushed him backward, releasing all the anger at once.
"what the fuck is wrong with you!" Not paying any attention to any of his words, you searched for your phone that you found on the counter and shot your warden an apologetic message. The orphan was near the station so you were sure she won't have waited for more than thirty minutes but you knew she'd have been worried for you.
Quickly working , you called taeyong while running for the main door, a confused yuta following you.
"you are home taeyong?" You asked him while wearing your shoes and exited , ignoring yuta's perplexed questions.
Yuta stood in the doorway, contemplating what the heck he had witnessed!
18:30
Taeyong jerked forward on his chair as you slammed open the door of his office and marched in. When you called earlier , he thought you were going to complain about something that yuta did but the heat of the anger radiating through your body was enough to burn his senses from a distance.
"sit and calm-
"I'm not here to witness your hospitality Lee taeyong. Relieve me of the agreement here and now. my way or your way! I don't wanna live under the same roof wi-
"why are you shouting so much?" Jaehyun interrupted ,entering the room in a swift motion. Following him were few others who might have been awakened by your outburst.
"shut up jaehyun! For once do something with your worthless life" you spit out, eyes boring into jaehyun's.
"can you atleast tell me what has happened!"
To answer taeyong , you moved forward, resting your hands on the head of a chair continued,
"yuta locked me today. My phone was outside in the kitchen. I shouted , pleaded but he didn't open the door for 5 hours. I was supposed to go to Busan but that motherfucker don't ha-
"Busan? Your hometown?" Taeyong disrupted your speech,
"f-for my parents' death anniversary! I was suppose to visit their graves like every year.b-but he chose today of all days to play his little revenge games on me." With broken voice and tears threatening to spill, you managed to proceed,
"i don't wanna live with him anymore. I didn't sign up for this torture. Kill me for all you want but don't try to convince me into staying with that bastard!" Your nails holed into the leather chair, creating small crescents on the surface.
Uncomfortable silence fell over the whole room . As you turned around to leave, you were met with yuta's figure. His hand motioned to reach you but you closed the distance before he could.
"i hope you enjoyed it today!" With venom laced words, you finalised your proposition by flinging the ring straight into his face, his face scrunching at the hit , before walking past him.
"hyun-
Before taeyong could complete, taeil was already was on your heels.
"why do you have to be an asshole yuta?"
" i didn't do anything!" He started as he picked up the ring from the floor, âthe door was ja-
âyou shouldnât have stooped so low nakamoto yuta!â tayeong growled with eyes glistening with fire.
âwhat now?â yutaâs jaw clenched at jaehyunâs nonchalant words. Pocketing his annoyance for him, he opened his mouth to explain himself,
ânothing now ok! I did nothing.i didnât lock her and certainly didnât try to forbid from going anywhere. She wa- the door was jammed due to some loose screws. I had to push it so itâd open. I-i-I wasnât even aware of her plans. Heck, you can ask hyuck. I was playing with him for 6 hours straight. I had headphones in my ears all that time and you know how much hyuck yells. Even if she was stuck, there was not a sound that reached me taeyong. I was as oblivious to all this as much as you all were till now and knowingly, I wonât ever do anything so harsh. You know me very well! donât you?â he ended with a hopeful question glancing at everyone in the room. With each passing second, his anxiousness elevated at the silent and calculating faces of everyone.
âyou donât believe me, do you?â his broken voice resembled the one they just heard few minutes ago.
âno yuta.i-its not like that . message taeil hyung about all this so he can calm her down.â Taeyong muttered with eyes searching up yutaâs for any malice he might be planning but found nothing. he was innocent.
But yuta panicked at his words, âwhy? I can explain by myself. Itâs not that difficult. I can handle her taeyong.â he turned for the door but taeyongâs words stopped him in his tracks.
âyou think so! You should be glad you are alive yutaâ
âthen release us taeyong. Iâm begging you, LET HER GO!â the shout that echoed was enough to send shivers through every living being in the vicinity.
âI will. If taeil hyung say so. Message him yuta and you should know I donât repeat my words without expense!â
He did as told, head hung low to avoid the pity looks that were thrown his way!
âdonât follow me taeil!â
âIâll stop if youâll stop!â taeil politely replied, tracking your steps on the sidewalk. He tried to obstruct your way but ended up following you instead. 15 minutes had passed since you both left the house but your anger was not simmering down and you were stunned at his patience.
âyou canât walk till university.â You deadpanned.
âneither can you.â
Stopping abruptly, you faced him, âyou canât stop me taeil.â
âI wonât. but the bus driver would. Even pretty girls donât get a free ride home.â You groaned at his unnecessarily true words. He was right, you had nothing on you except for the phone.
He silently observed your slumping body, before walking a step closer to check the waters. When you didnât push him away, he lightly took your hand in his, tugging you to come along.
âI donât wanna go with you.â your hushed voice gave him some courage to proceed further,
âwe arenât going home. Lets just sitâ
He dragged you to the park you had passed just five minutes ago. Sitting on the bench , he asked you to explain everything that had happened in the last 6 hours. You recited the whole story till the end where you threw the ring at yuta. Taeil only hummed in response when he heard a buzz from his phone.
Reading yutaâs message , he suddenly knew where to start!
âread this y/n.â he said before giving you the phone.
You absorbed each and every word written. It made sense. But did it?
âheâs lying.â You scoffed , returning the phone.
âheâs not.â
âofcourse youâll take his side.â
âand why would I do that?â
âheâs your brotherâ
âand you are my sisterâ
âno Iâm not. I never would be.â You retorted, hiding the effect his words had on you.
âI might not be your brother but you canât stop me from calling you my sister and Iâd prefer you over yuta anyday.â
âbut you still think Iâm lying and heâs rightâ
Taeil massaged the back of his neck, clearly getting annoyed by your snapping.
âwhen did I say you are lying? I just said heâs not lying.â
âisnât it the same thing?â
âno its clearly not. You just donât wanna admit that you misunderstood!â
Uncrossing your legs, you faced him, â because I am not in the wrong here. he is ! he did it so he can have the house all to himself while Iâm locked. The truth is he hates my guts. He wont ever pass an opportunity against me!â
âand like you love his guts! Your hatred for him is the reason that you donât wanna believe heâs innocent. Your heart wants to believe that everything that had unfolded after that night is yutaâs fault. You donât wanna believe because you just donât want to! You are rejecting his reason because your mind says its the perfect chance to break taeyong! your anger and emotions are playing games with you and you are letting them! and this is exactly what yuta had been doing from the very first day! Heâs no different than you. No matter how much you discard it, the truth wonât change! Impulsive actions lead you nowhere!â His polite yet authoritative voice was providing inputs that you didnât want to believe. Not yet.
âI just wanted to go to busan taeil. If he hadnât been home the-
âif he hadnât been home , then you would not have even made it out! And Iâm sure you have heard him playing games. Heâs a loudspeaker and believe me haechan is yuta part two. Iâm sure he didnât hear you.â
âbut why would anyone even care! Iâm the one at loss here.â
âwhat loss. Just because you missed it today doesnât mean you canât go tomorrow and If you want i can take you there. we can go right now! But y/n , loved ones live in your heart!. You donât need a day to show them your respect and love. They know you and they watch over you. donât crumble under the weight of customs and rituals. Weâll go tomorrow morning. Be ready by 8 a.m !â his soothing voice managed to calm the storm but you werenât going to budge from your first condition.
âI donât wanna go back with him.â
He sighed heavily before pressing his phone to his ear,
âtaeyong. replace yuta in france. For two months and I donât want any further discussion.â
You sniffled, finally letting out the tears that were in the waiting since the morning.
âI can drop you to the dorm for tonight until he packs his stuff and you can go back home tomorrow. Sounds right?â he described his plan , petting your hair.
You weakly nodded, letting him ease your worries with sympathetic words that you didnât even know you needed!
next morningÂ
Uncomfortable silence welcomed you as you entered the house. You were told that he was gone and it sounded about right with the present atmosphere.
After finding the fruits, you made you way to the room but stopped in your tracks as you spotted something on the counter.
Three moulded screws were placed on a paper along with the ring that you thought would never be seen by you again. you breath quickened as you read the words on the plain paper
Iâm sorry!
What were you supposed to do with it now?
