The day you marry Gojō Satoru was like any other day.

It was the definition of a Sunday morning, quiet, peaceful, and almost like a secret between the two of you.

One might imagine the day the strongest sorcerer would get married to be the grandest day every living man would ever see in their lifetime.

But it was quite the opposite. 

The number of guests who witnessed your marriage can be counted with just two hands.  The decorations were subdued, yet your eyes did not miss the diamonds that glittered your kanzashi.  A gift from the family you are to be wedded to.

You stand there next to Gojō, trying to be as still as you can.  You can hear every word the minister says and so is every song the birds sing outside the church, or every whistle of the breeze.

It was calm.

And the small smile on your husband to be’s lips added to the serenity the day has brought you.

You stood so close to him, but it barely felt close enough.  Almost cursing the distance between you.  You wonder if he felt the same.

Afterall, Gojō Satoru did not utter a single word to you the moment you stepped inside the doors of the church.  He stood waiting at the end of the aisle, offering a calming smile to ease your nerves, receiving your gloved hand as you reached him, but that was it.

Knowing Gojō all your life made you aware of how difficult he is to read at times.

And no matter how hard you want to believe that he is glad to stand there next to you to be wedded, no assurance from him means that you cannot let your guard down.

With that said, bile started to rise to your throat but you squeezed your eyes shut to calm your nerves.  

Nobody else can upset you better than yourself.

“Y/N.”  His soft whisper snapped you out of your thoughts.

You look up to him, your eyes wide in confusion, lips slightly parted, it makes his eyes linger on them for a moment.

“The uh…”  Gojō nearly snickers.  “The minister asked if you would take me as your lawfully wedded husband.”

Oh.

Oh!

“I do.”  You say quickly, turning to the already smiling minister.

Gojō playfully lets out a deep sigh of relief, making the witnesses behind you laugh at his antics.

The minister asks the same question to Gojō and he responds a split second later.  Your worries quell the tiniest bit.

More words were uttered by the minister and you get lost in your thoughts once more.

Gojō has a small smile playing on his lips as he listens.  His eyes stealing quick glances at the dazed look on your face.

As he expects, you don’t hear the declaration of the minister, flinching at the loud applause behind you as confusion fills your eyes once more.

And in a quick impulse, Gojō Satoru swoops in to capture your lips on his.

His hooded eyes met yours just before you melted against him, your eyes fluttering to a close.  And the cheers get louder. 

Warmth fills your chest, almost overpowering the doubts.

Almost.

Gojō ends the kiss with his eyes shrouded with a look that once again summoned the uncertainties to your chest.

But he gives you the smallest smile of assurance. 

“Calm yourself, my love.”  He whispers as he caresses your cheek.  And then he has your hand in his and a grin finds itself on his lips as he faces the small crowd.

You did as he told you and you smiled too. 

It is your wedding day. 

You have no business feeling miserable.

The banquet that followed was livelier.

Guests from the other clans and your husband’s acquaintances are all present.

Your cheeks hurt from smiling at people all afternoon.

There were speeches from elders.  Some with lessons you will cherish forever, some with warnings hidden behind fragrant words. 

Naoya Zen’in, now tipsy, kept coming back to your table, saying over and over that he could have sworn he had been married to you before.  Until Gojō led him away.  You blanch after having caught the end of their conversation, mostly gruesome threats from your husband.

The sun was almost setting in the distance and you cannot quite come to a conclusion of how exactly you are feeling.

As you sit next to your newly wedded husband in his car, you nibble on your lips as you watch the pavement blankly.

“Have you come to regret your decision to meet me at the altar?”  His voice was playful but even so probing.

You let out a small exhale and mustered a smile as you faced him.

“No, of course not.”  You laugh lightly and Gojō returns your smile but the two of you face the road a second later.  Your smiles are gone.

The bliss brought on by the wedding was slowly fading, it seems.

You wanted to talk more with him.  To know him better.  But it felt wrong to break the silence.

Apparently, Gojō felt the same way as he no longer spoke, but instead, he put his hand atop your thigh and squeezed gently.  A show of affection, destroying any physical boundaries you previously had, solidifying the fact that you are now married and everything is about to change between you.

In response, you place a hand over his, telling him that you are willing to take the first steps with him into this voyage you embarked on.

this isn't gosho's first time exploring the theme of sharks in the manga:

both shinichi and haibara relate to sharks, they're self-admittedly drawn to blood and darkness. but why?

haibara was born into it, she didn't have a choice... and even though she's no longer a part of the black organization, she still carries the past with her.

shinichi on the other hand? he seeks it out. he directly confronts it, because he wants to defeat it. his unfaltering idealism is what pushes him to be a shark.

ran is very idealistic too, which i talk about here. so why doesn't she act like a shark?

"Finnick knows then what Haymitch and I know. About Peeta. Being truly, deep-down better than the rest of us." - Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire Chapter 19

the closest that gosho comes to spelling it out like this, is haibara's line about ran "i'm up against dolphin, one of the most loveable creatures in the ocean"

ran's defined by more than her virtuous nature, she's also unbelievably compassionate and sensitive. that's what makes her a dolphin.

her unmatched kindness is constantly displayed throughout the whole manga.

sometimes it irks shinichi:

now i'm going to say something that might be controversial: from what i've gathered, shinichi doesn't just appreciate ran's tender heart... he depends on it.

and i'm not saying that lightly, i'm aware that ran's caring nature affects a lot of dcmk characters - it's the reason why vermouth calls her an angel, why haibara refers to her as a dolphin and sees her as a sister figure, hell, it's the reason why kogoro's able to function most of the time.

but i'd still argue that nobody relies on it the way shinichi does, which brings me to the next symbol i want to analyze:

cherry blossom

flowers can represent a variety of concepts, depending on your source and in what context you use them for your writing. the same rule applies to cherry blossoms.

gosho's used it as symbol for justice in the past:

it's interesting to look at it through that lense, but i don't think that's what the cherry blossom represents for shinichi.

after doing some research, i came to the realization that cherry blossoms are widely believed to symbolize hope and the beginning of spring.

i think that interpretation makes a lot more sense for shinran. especially if we examine their first interaction:

shinichi shows ran his deduction skills to impress her... ironically he ends up impressing everyone but her. shinichi's condescension leads to a full-blown argument:

but then something completely unexpected happens... despite the fact that they don't know each other, despite the fact that shinichi insults ran, despite the fact that ran's completely put off by his arrogance, despite all of that... she offers him a cherry blossom and along with it the kindest smile he's ever seen:

and i just can't help feeling like ran's cherry blossom is symbolically very similar to suzanne's dandelion:

"I found him staring at me  from across the school yard. Our eyes met for only a second, then he turned his head away. I dropped my gaze, embarrassed, and that’s when I saw it. The first dandelion of the  year. A bell went off in my head. I thought of the hours spent  in the woods with my father and I knew how we were going to  survive.  To this day, I can never shake the connection between this  boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the  dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed. And more  than once, I have turned in the school hallway and caught his  eyes trained on me, only to quickly flit away." - Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games Chapter 3

and clearly, only ran can give that to shinichi...

let me further elaborate by revisiting the shark analogy:

the most beautiful dolphin in the sea sees a shark like him, calls him out on his bluff and instead of avoiding him, she actually welcomes him. ran shows him genuine affection, despite having so many reasons not to. how could he not fall for her?

for someone like shinichi, a cool shark who's able to recognize other predators in the sea from such a young age, seeing the innocence and warmth of a dolphin is pivotal for him, because it reminds him that there's so much more to life than constantly familiarizing himself with other sharks (in his childhood by reading and later by investigating them)... there's good too.

to summarize... shinichi sees a delicate cherry blossom, a gentle dolphin and holds on to her for dear life. he desperately clings to the promise of hope and spring, he depends on her affection and warmth. he needs ran, because without her winter would never end, he'd never escape to coldness of the sea, he'd freeze.

which explains why

a) he's so protective of her

b) ran's smile serves as a compass for shinichi throughout the whole story - while his mind is busy chasing sharks, shinichi's soul is persistently searching for the same smile that strummed his heartstrings all these years ago. which is why he immediately notices when ran's not okay (even though she's very skilled at concealing her pain) and why he always tries to make her feel better

and that's ultimately why

a) shinichi's keeping his identity a secret

b) he's so focused on getting his old body back

without ran, shinichi wouldn't have a constant inner conflict as conan, without her, he'd lack purpose and as a result, detective conan would be empty and lifeless.

ran's not just a love interest y'all...

she's the heart of the entire manga.

When You Cage An Animal, The Claws Will Start To Show

You walk out to the common room as Kamala asked you and find the girl accompanied by a tall blonde woman who's standing awkwardly next to her. "This is Carol," the girl introduces her.

"I’m Captain Marvel," the woman begins, staring at a spot on the wall behind you, "you and I were partners for a while. We lived in my spaceship together. I was in charge of the mission that caused your memory loss." Her speech comes out like bullet points, as if she had rehearsed it before arriving. You cross your arms, only half listening to what she has to say. Seeing her standing so close to Kamala makes you remember what Valkyrie said about how she might hurt the girl.

"You have some nerve showing up after this long," you growl, The Captain’s face remains unemotional.

"It was my fault and I want to apologize for it." If there is honesty in her words, she's not doing a good job at showing it.

"No, I've been searching for you for months, I’m gonna go first," you snap at her. "You are a selfish, heartless, pathetic, narcissist," you start going off, "the second you realized I wasn't useful to you anymore you walked away from me and left me to my own devices."

"Do not speak to me that way," Carol orders and takes a step forward.

You chuckle humorlessly, "You don't get to demand respect, not when you didn't take responsibility for your actions. You caused the biggest tragedy of my life and then you bailed out," your face is red with rage, "you were so cynical, demanding that everyone keep you away from me. You're just as arrogant and cowardly as the rest of them."

"Watch your tone." Her fists start lighting up.

"Don't tell me what to do!" Carol blasts a shot at you and you barely avoid it out of pure instinct.

She continues shooting blast after blast at you as you try to get close to her to make it a fair fight. You manage to reach her, not unscathed, and get some hits in when she swings a hot punch to your abdomen, sending you flying backwards and falling on your back.

This is it, you tried to put up a fight, but there is no way you can take up Captain Marvel. She walks slowly towards you, her sense of reason long abandoned, fully taken over by pain, grief, heartbreak, and guilt, she is ready to end this battle. She charges her fist and blasts you without a second thought.

Kamala jumps in front of you immediately and produces a purple wall to protect you, but it was a moment too late, behind her lay your unconscious body. She falls to her knees trying to help you, completely disregarding The Captain.

Valkyrie enters the room after hearing the noise, "Marv, get off of her!" She runs to stop Carol from further hurting you, "I never thought I'd be saying that to you about her," she mumbles under her breath.

Carol doesn't look away from you, "She started it." Her voice is stone cold.

"Right, she started it when she woke up from that mission after being ambushed and she didn't recognize you? She started it when after working with little Marv everyday for months she still couldn't remember you? She started it when in all her desperation she had to resort to asking a private eye for help because you wouldn't allow anyone else to tell her about you?" Valkyrie lectures her.

"Why can't she remember me, Val?" Carol's voice wavers.

"Beating her unconscious is not going to bring her memory back."

"Answer me!" she insists.

"You need to cool off." The King forcefully takes her out of the room.

You gradually come to your senses, Kamala helps you get back up and walks you to your room.

"She really is an Avenger, huh?" you croak.

"Did you not believe it?"

"I did, but, I mean, if the arrows guy can be an Avenger, I’m not sure what I was expecting," Kamala stiffens a laugh, "you did really good back there."

"I wasn't fast enough, I’m sorry." Kamala is still unsure what just happened.

"She's the strongest Avenger and you weren't afraid to get in her way, that takes courage," you say with sincerity.

Valkyrie and Carol take a walk outside, they go in circles around the compound.

"She was taken," Valkyrie states after their second lap, Carol glances at her with an unreadable expression, "the ambush. It was a distraction so they could take her," The King clarifies. After Carol makes no effort to respond, Val continues, "They sedated her and removed all her memories of you."

"How do you know this?" Carol asks, her jaw is stiff with residual anger.

"She's been having nightmares–flashbacks of the procedure, it took us a while, but we put the pieces together."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

The King stops walking abruptly and holds Carol by the shoulder so she does the same, "What, in one of the hundreds of calls you didn’t bother to pick up? You weren't here, you made a decision and we respected it."

"If I had known–"

"If you had known what?" Valkyrie interrupts her, "You knew everything you needed to know the moment she woke up. You chose to run away." There's hostility in her voice, one that Carol isn't used to.

"I was scared," The Captain finally admits, "I fucked up."

"You really did, and that's coming from me."

hi, I’m looking for a fic I read on ao3 probably about a year or so ago where the party treats Steve like he’s stupid.

I remember towards the end of the fic Steve saying that his d&d character should be a paladin or something strong/smart (he wants to make a character to surprise Eddie) Dustin jokingly tells him he’s more of a “village idiot”.

Steve gets really upset and yells at Dustin to leave, Eddie shows up, (he shows up because he was worried about Steve because of something that had happened earlier, but I can’t remember what) he helps calm Steve down a bit, but then Steve’s parents come home and make everything a lot worse.

I’m pretty sure the fic was multi-chaptered and completed, but I could be wrong.

The way she's forcing him to sit up and say hello when he's on death's door is so funny, and Sabo's "You can let him rest" is great. Like, "That man is clearly dying, please leave him alone."

They're reacting here to being told that they'll be floating to their destination using the stag beetles, and I find this especially funny because it's not even the most outlandish thing Robin's done in recent memory

I love when the crew supports Luffy unconditionally. Robin hasn't had a moment yet where she declares Luffy will become king of the pirates, but this is pretty close.

Chapter 777

Robin was only defending Rebecca in the flower field, but she did a damn good job of it. Her quick thinking led her to shield the two of them with the surrounding flowers, and when that eventually failed, she used her own body to shield her. It is pure cowardice on Oda's part that she does not carry scars from this battle.

I've said that there aren't a lot of good Robin and Sanji interactions due to Sanji being weird and gross, but luckily he's not in this panel so this is one of the nicer moments. Robin may not have been at Whole Cake, but she recognizes that Sanji isn't used to making himself vulnerable to the crew, and that this is a once-rare moment of him asking for help. Not only that, but just as she trusts him to protect her, he trusts her to protect him when he needs it, too.

Gojō Satoru never woke up with anybody next to him in all his life.  Even in his escapades at his age of curiosity, he never stayed long.  He was never fond of bedding anybody too often in the first place.  The guilt ate him up despite him never agreeing to your betrothal.

Yet now, he wakes up to you every single morning.

Your back always turned to him, never crossing the boundaries set between you.  Your hair against your pristine white pillows.  The soft rise and fall of your shoulders.  Even whimpering from time to time, making him cover your goosebump covered arm with the warm blanket.

The first time he woke up to such a sight, he did not know what to do, so he stared at your form until you woke up.  He was fascinated in watching you go about your morning, until you wake him up with tea and fresh clothing for the day.

His morning continues with him listening to your plans for the day as you head to the dining area where you will share your breakfast.

And you will kiss his cheek goodbye as he heads out for work.

The same routine goes on for weeks.

Day by day, he notices how your appearance changes too.

More and more, your clothing starts to have more of the fabric that is blue in color.

And the layers kept adding up.

He was wrapping the bandage over his eyes one morning as he observed how you put your hair up with pins embedded with sapphires and paraiba tourmaline.

“I’m surprised that you can still move, dragging an entire fabric store.”

You give him a small smile.

“It is customary.”  You replied.

He chooses not to say anything after that.  But not even an hour after he left for work, you received a gift from your husband.  It was a wooden fan.

You never go without it from then on.

The women in the Gojō estate made it their mission to hone you to perfection.  Not that they had more to teach you.  You were already well taught.

You spend your day reading.  Or embroidering, to make the elders happy.

The estate house was big.  Much ground for you to explore.  Your new and old handmaidens gladly accompany you in your walks. 

In one of your afternoon teas, you are surprised to see a familiar mop of unruly hair.

It was one of the children your husband had adopted in his youth.

“Megumi.”  You call sweetly.  The young teen boy stops in his tracks, his muttering coming to a halt and his deep frown clearing away to make way for confusion.

“Gojō-san.”  He says unsurely.

Your smile widens as you beckon him close.  “‘Y/N-san’ is still fine.  What brings you here?”

He looks at the small parcel in his hand.  “Uhm…running errands for Gojō-sensei.”

You pat the seat next to you.  “Do you mind if I take up a bit of your time today?”

He shakes his head and sits next to you, his hand sneakily slips the parcel in his pockets.

“Tea and cookies?”  You pour him a cup anyway.

“Thanks.”  He says curtly and sips on his cup.  “Congratulations on your marriage.”

You smile brightly at him.  No matter how big he got, you still see him as the same little boy that Gojō took in.

It was not often that you saw the boy and his older sister, but given that you were the fiancée of the man who took care of them, you kind of bribed them with treats to get them to like you.  You were only a teenager then, you did not know any better.

Megumi, ever so perceptive that he was, saw through your tricks but appreciated your efforts nonetheless, knowing that you meant well.  Also, because you got him out of trouble when he needed a guardian to see the guidance counselor.

Gojō would have picked a fight with the school staff, you were the safer option.

“Enjoying school?”  You ask as you spread marmalade on a piece of pastry and add it on a stack on his plate.

He shrugs. “I guess so.  Met a bunch of weirdos but otherwise okay.”

“Is Gojō-sensei behaving himself?  He’s not giving you much trouble?”

Megumi does not know how to answer that.  He thinks you got the question the other way around.

He quietly sips on his tea and puts the cup on the saucer with a soft clink.

You wait for his response patiently.

“Are you certain he did not threaten you so you’d marry him, Y/N-san?  You are too good for that man.  I swear I’d try to talk to the council to-”

An arm finds itself on Megumi’s shoulder.

“What sort of nonsense are you spouting to my wife, Megumi.”  Gojō clicks his tongue in feigned disappointment.

Megumi leans on his chair and sips on his tea like nothing happened.  “Thank you for the tea, Y/N-san.”  He fishes the parcel from his pocket and slams it to Gojō’s chest.  “That thing you requested.”  He says through gritted teeth.

Gojō smiles childishly at him.  “Thanks, Megumi.  I know I can count on you.”  He slips it to his own pocket and Megumi says his farewell.

Knowing that it is not your business to ask, you turn to your own cup of tea.

Your husband sits on the chair that Megumi vacated, only he drags the chair closer to you until your elbows bumped and then proceeds to gobble up the pastry that you prepared for Megumi.  You hid the slight annoyance you felt and instead just poured him tea into a new cup.

Gojō chokes on a scone and he slams a fist to his chest as you slap at his back but a second later, he was shoving a Danish puff on his mouth.

You shake your head at him, smiling at his display of behavior.  Despite knowing the man all your life, he never ceases to appall…er, astound you.

“So, we had this new kid in Jujutsu High.”  He says in between chews and you nod at him to continue, wiping at the marmalade that smeared on his lips.

Your entire afternoon was spent listening to Gojō’s rambles and gossip in the jujutsu society and you would not spend your time any other way.

i just love how shinichi's primary love language is words of affirmation and ran's is physical touch, because for most straight couples it's reversed! just goes to show how progressive shinran is and how well thought out their characters are!

shinichi's a detective and big nerd so naturally he's more eloquent than ran - she's a karate pro and jock, so it makes sense for her to be more physically expressive

there are so many layers and details to this beautiful ship, it never ceases to amaze me!
