Note
Have you seen the panel of Laios asking everyone how to stop being a dungeon lord? I've been curious what chapter that is or if it's a what if
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This right? Chapter 84. I love Laios so much
Edit: wait maybe you mean another one? I have a feeling there's another scene where they talk about that...?

Fun Facts About Near:
He is the youngest character in the series! Right after him is Matt by a margin of 569 days (1 year, 6 months and 23 days), and the oldest is Watari by a margin of about 58 years.
He is also among the shortest - an inch taller than Misa according to some translations of Volume 13, and equally as tall as her in others. Rester is the tallest, standing at approximately 6'3", which is around 1'3" taller than Near.
From chapters 59-108 of the manga, Near appears in a grand total of 724 panels. This includes panels that show any identifiable part of him (e.g. his hand, the top of his head), but excludes Linda's drawing of him and any official art in the chapter that was not part of the plot. If you count the drawing & art, he's present in 741 panels!
Of all the chapters he's in, he makes the most appearances in chapter 82, appearing in a total of 49 panels. For comparison, the next highest is chapter 101, in which he is shown 33 times.
He's shown twirling his hair 84 times, split across 18 chapters and 59 pages. He always uses his right hand, and his left hand is often resting on his knee.
He can be seen smiling in 32 panels across 12 chapters. The majority of these happen in chapter 78, where he is shown smiling in 11 out of the total 19 panels in which his mouth is visible.
According to Volume 13 (page 210), Near estimated that he spent 4080.02 USD on toys over the duration of the SPK's work on the Kira case. Out of 25 total items listed, 7 of them were purchased in Japan, and the other 18 were purchased in New York.
Of all his toys, the puppets make the most appearances, showing up in a total of 11 chapters. The second highest is his robots, which were present in 10 chapters. Despite being commonly associated with him, cards and puzzles were among the least popular, each appearing in only 2 chapters.
He has 28 rubber ducks (as far as we know).
Four of his toys are handmade! These are the finger puppets, the radio tower model he assembles out of paper, one of his darts, and the figures from one of his Lego sets (which are pre-made but he draws on the details and faces with a marker). The L mask he wears in the warehouse is also handmade.
He has a very bizarre-looking set of Christmas ornaments hanging from his Christmas tree, including 2 robots, 3 video game consoles and what looks like a black cat peering out of a gift-wrapped box.
The last person to address him by name in the manga is Light, in chapter 107. After this, he is only addressed once more by Aizawa, who refers to him as L.

SxF Mission 84
(Beware of spoilers)
Oh woooooowwwwwwwwww!!!
Wheeler is really one capable spy!!!
Totally love him, Endo!!!
He can easily defeat 3 WISE agents!
Turning the table when it seems like he was already arrested
Tumblr media
Using a small knife to nullified gun threats
Tumblr media
And not falling for Twilight's tricks, even beat him down!!
Tumblr media
Whoah....
Yea I know Twilight is already injured. But Wheeler really is a league of his own
With that kind of stamina, agility, skills, and adaptable analysis accuracy, are we sure he is not triple agent? That he's actually part of Garden?? Because I don't think SSS can have an agent of this caliber 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (sorry SSS).
Anyway, the chapter end with unhinged Fiona.
Tumblr media
After unhinged Melinda back then, now we have unhinged Fiona. Endo sure loves his female characters, eh?? (And I love Endo for that 🥰)
Now the questions are, what is the reason for Fiona's rage? Is it:
1. A simple fangirl getting angry because her idol is hurt? Which is, tbh, rather meh. I really hope Endo use this narrative to develop Fiona's character. Which make possible reason no.2 is more interesting. That is...
2. Fiona's ideal or perfect Twilight (in her fantasy) is being broken to dust. She has to accept a bitter truth that at the end, Twilight is just another human and that's he is not invincible. So she better stop putting him on pedestal, and worship him. It is about time she surpass her mentor.
"Ambitious Fiona" is still a far more interesting characterization rather than "crazy fangirl with crazy dreams Fiona".
3. Fiona that has realized that Twilight is just mere human, now change her target to Wheeler. She has to kill this man (but Wheeler survive) and thus begin the cat and mouse game between the two. (What? Fiona and Wheeler? Don't you guys see it in that panel? How Wheeler flirt with Fiona by mocking her incapability? Fiona-Wheeler--> Feeler? 🤣🤣🤣 lol, I'm joking. Or maybe not 👀)
4. Fiona and Yuri first meet! She is upset cause Yuri is getting beaten down! (Ok, this is just my YuriIona impossible wish 🤣)
Ahem, what? Twilight is destinied to be with Yor. So let's make harem for Fiona instead.
Ok ok.
Angsty thought now.
What will happen when Yor heard the news that both of her boys has now been hurt and hospitalized? They might tell her that both got in a "totally happen in different place" car accident. But Yor herself is not a stranger to martial arts. She would definitelly recognize the wounds on Loid's and Yuri's body as a result from fighting. She will be devastated for sure. But her reaction can be:
1. She blame herself, and then start to do her night job harder. Kill harder. Clean the place harder.
2. She connects the dots and realized that Loid and Yuri has fight the other. She might be very upset at both of them. Yor herself might be not thinking about the boy's secret identity, but this will lead Yuri to realize who Loid really is.
Either way, this arc is getting more and more interesting!!!
I can't wait to read more, Endo! 🥰🥰

Their development has been too good these panels plus the entirety of chapter 84 had me TEARING UP ASF
Plus the fact that whenever Kafka interacts with Kikoru he detransforms his face to talk to her in a human voice in this scene, and earlier he detransforms his arm and hand to put a comforting HUMAN hand on her shoulder he’s SUCH a dad and he loves his daughter/teammate/bully/whatever
Their friendship is so wonderfully written I love it

YOU CAN SEE OLDER PANELS IN THE BG OF THE NEW PAGE AAAA 🥺🥺🥺
Tumblr media
YANA SAID, “I’M GONNA JUST CASUALLY DROP THE PHANTOMFAM PHOTO ALBUM FOR THE 200TH CHAPTER COVER, AND SHE WAS RIGHT! 👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Although I couldn’t track down all of the past scenes shown here (gasp! Tumblr user grelleswife is a fake fan confirmed! 😱), I was able to match the following:
Tumblr media
Chapter 39: A harried Mamma Michaelis tries to maintain order while chaos rages around him.
Tumblr media
Chapter 44: During the murder mystery arc, after Sebastian’s presumed “death,” Finny reflects on how the servants owe their happy life at the manor to him and their young master (This is fine. I’m fine. I’m definitely not crying right now).
Tumblr media
Chapter 84: O!Ciel returns from Weston College to find Old Man Sam’s wayward sheep causing mischief.
Tumblr media
Chapter 85: The family that goes on shopping trips together stays together!
Tumblr media
Edit: @fanfiction-snake reminded me that the image of Snake peeling potatoes is taken from this scene earlier in Chapter 85. Thanks again for the clarification! ☺️
If any eagle-eyed mutuals can identify the remaining panels from the cover, please feel free to reblog here!

So. This panel from chapter 84. Anastasius was visiting Claude’s mother, who implores him to not resent her son, before he leaves. His hair is blond, which is normal.

But then, in the final version, his hair is black….? Why….

I usually draw Mikami wearing snazzy tucked in shirts with ties, but when I was perusing the manga the other day, I found a much more casual outfit of his 👀 So consider this a panel redraw, and I will include the original below the cut. Since the manga is in black and white, I took some artistic liberties with the colors here ^_^
[image ID: a digital drawing of Mikami from Death Note, wearing a light blue button up with dark blue stripes beneath a blue jacket and a pair of tan pants. He has a black messenger bag slung over one shoulder and is walking toward the camera with his head down. The background is a field of grayish-blue, darker around the edges. End image ID.]

[image ID: a page from the Death Note manga (taken from the end of Chapter 84) that features Mikami wearing a casual jacket over a striped button up shirt, with what might be a messenger bag slung over one shoulder. He is walking through the city, and his head is down. End image ID.]

Makima does not control the Prime Minister and the Japanese government
I've noticed that it's become popular among Chainsaw Man fans to imagine Makima as the embodiment of evil who is responsible for all the bad things in this world. Due to misreading, people often spread their headcanons under the guise of reliable information, and one such belief is the theory that Makima controlled the Japanese government. Well, let's see if there is evidence of this in the manga.
I think it's worth starting with Kishibe's words from chapter 97, because in retrospect it may give a better understanding of the relationship between Makima and the Japanese government. Basically, he's saying that if the new Control Devil is raised by the government, she will become just like Makima. Regarding this dialogue, people often write it off because Kishibe doesn't literally say "they raised Makima", but the logic is that being raised by the Japanese government = becoming another Makima. I also don't think Tatsuki Fujimoto would add such a line without a reason, but for clarity we need to look at Makima's interactions with her superiors in the manga.
Tumblr media
So, in chapter 6 we see Makima reporting to the higher-ups, and this scene alone is enough to say that the assumption that she has control over these people does not make any sense. The reason is that if they were puppets under her control, Makima would have absolutely no need to retell to herself the information that she already knows. This is not to mention how their conversation happens. Throughout the report, Makima stands and the superior threateningly hits his pen on the desk when he thinks Makima is acting out of line and then instructs her not to get attached to her subordinates.
Tumblr media
In Chapter 22, Makima admits that the higher-ups are scary, and she is going to leave the room early and skip the luncheon just to avoid meeting them unnecessarily. Encounters with these people are stressful for Makima, and it is not how the person in control behaves.
Tumblr media
Then there is one of the most popular Makima's quotes in chapter 33. In her conversation with the Yakuza, we learn that she considers herself a necessary evil collared and controlled by the state. So, Makima herself almost directly says she is a dog of the government, and it's hard to make that less ambiguous.
Tumblr media
The last point I would like to draw attention to occurred in chapter 84. After learning of the unthinkable power that the Chainsaw Devil possesses, Kishibe assumed that Makima was going to use it to ruin the world. She asked if he really believe the Prime Minister would contract with such an evil Devil? Some fans I've met have unironically used this moment to argue that Makima forcibly forced the PM into a contract. However, if we try to read the page in its entirety, it is clear that she refutes Kishibe's assumption. Makima's words in the second panel imply that the Prime Minister wouldn't have signed a contract with her if she was as evil as Kishibe thinks she is (which again destroys the idea that she controlled the government). Makima then explains how her ability works in order to lead the conversation towards her real goal - to create a better world using Chainsaw Man, which she can control if she wins in battle. That is, the following lines have nothing to do with the Prime Minister, but serve as an explanation from Makima as to why she is not as evil as Kishibe thinks, and why the contract was made.
If you read the second panel as if Makima gloating over Kishibe's words, implying her control over the Prime Minister (which, as I explained above, is incorrect), then there is no point in her immediately afterwards justifying herself and telling him about her plan, which is not like that as he imagined. As I said, these words did not come out of nowhere, and like everything that will be said below, they were meant to disprove Kishibe's ideas.
Tumblr media
Makima has no control over members of the Japanese government or the Prime Minister. Period. There's nothing in the manga to support this far-fetched fan theory. On the other hand, there are enough things that make it as accessible as possible for the reader to realize that she is just a part of this system.
