hi so i was rereading rns as one does and this line struck fear into my heart:

afaik the demon has yet to cash in the IOU unless im blind and uh. what if he makes helsknight hurt tanguish. and tanguish knows how to fight now so hes not helpless so idk if helsknight could use his tenets to get out of it. although he did promise not to use his sword. anyways itll probably be fine right? right? i am shaking in my boots. also rns is even awesomer rereading it theres so many things im noticing this time ariund.

Dungeon Meshi Volume 4 Part 1

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my liveblog. Going to try a slightly different format today. Instead of separate posts for each chapter, I'm just going to keep going until I hit the image limit.

As always, spoilers ahead!

You can run, you can hide, but the spoilers are everywhere.

Senshi very conspicuously siting out the explanations of Merini.

The twins were characters I mostly ignored on my initial read-through, but the amount of subtle characterization even they get is cute.

Tansu may be a grumpy old man, but he gets it, man.

There is something very funny about Tansu's mental image of Marcille being just as unhinged as Laios.

Honestly, this is my biggest issue with the anime. This scene is really important for establishing just how dire Falin's situation is. And for establishing a sense of danger in general.

God, I'm not a big shipper (I have no endgame ships for Laios or Senshi, and Chilchuck+his wife barely counts), but even I can feel the tension between Kiki and Namari.

Chilchuck: I don't fight. It isn't in my contract.

Also Chilchuck: *Totally helps fight*

Marcille never misses an opportunity to cast shade on Shuro.

Other than the red dragon pizza (Which doesn't even have sauce?), this might be the tastiest looking meal to me.

Soooo... What is the deal with this scene? It can't be a flashback. Laios is wearing his modern armor. Is this really a vision of her departing spirit? If Marcille hadn't used ancient magic, would she be gone for good? Unsettling to be sure.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a character make Shakespeare's life a living hell and the latter didn't expect/see it coming, that was AMAZING. Mf was out here like "What the hell??? You lot don't make me suffer I make YOU suffer. Let a man obsess IN PRIVACY" and then nobody cared. Peak comedic interaction, no notes everyone pack it up

Character Analysis: Kim Dokja

On the conclusion he ACTUALLY wanted to see, and his use of coping mechanisms.

Tldr; Kim Dokja explicitly says to his mom that he doesn't want a happy ending and that's why he was so adamant not to tell his companions about what sort of conclusion he wanted to see.

ORV 170 - Reading Again (1) I remembered the first time I was about to finish a book. It was like being deprived of the world. The protagonist and supporting characters walked off with the sentence ‘They lived happily ever after’ and I was left alone at the end of the story. In my vanity and sense of betrayal, my young self struggled because I couldn’t stand the loneliness. 「This... is the end? 」 Perhaps it was similar to learning about death. For the first time, I realized that something was finite.

ORV 172 - Reading Again (3) “The ending of this story is important to me. It was this world that kept me alive while you were gone.” It was thanks to the novel that I could survive the last few years without my mother and father. “You can never understand.” 『 Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World. 』 I didn’t know what the author intended with this title. However, this title was reality to me, not a metaphor. It was because for me, this had become a ‘ruined world’ a long time ago. I read this novel on a daily basis and survived. Thus, I couldn’t give up on this story. My mother refuted, “This isn’t a novel. There is no ending like ‘Everyone lived happily ever after’ in reality.” “I will see it through to the end. In addition, when did I say I wanted that ending?”

In the first place, the ending that Kim Dokja was looking for was not 'everyone lived happily ever after'. So what was the ending he was looking for? 49% KDJ implied it was to survive the scenarios, and not be alone even after the story ends. His exact words were:

Kim Dok-Ja slowly opened his eyes, and the subway’s pitch-black windows were reflected in his irises. The faces of his companions could be seen mirrored on the glass. As if, that was a group photo with the universe serving as its background. ⸢The conclusion of this world that he so dearly wished to see.��� “....I’m looking at it right now.”

So what's all the fuss about KDJ not being able to imagine his own happiness? 49% of him seemed to want being in that sort of epilogue just fine? Why go through such lengths to not tell anyone what kind of conclusion he wanted when it seems so wholesome?

Well… 

Putting the quotes together, this is my interpretation of Kim Dokja:

The conclusion he desires is one where the story doesn't leave him. I don't think he knows how to live without the crutch of a story, and its something he never learned to do even as a kid.

A conclusion where he isn't alone, but at the same time he has this deep seated understanding that it's not necessarily a happy one. A story ending is like death to him. From the start, happiness wasn't something he was aiming for. He just wanted to see these characters live. *cough Demon King of Salvation cough* 

He doesn’t care if the genre of their stories is a slice of life, a fantasy adventure, or angst. He’s a reader who wants to consume content no matter what. He knows this isn’t right and that’s why he didn’t tell anyone. (If you look at this with different glasses, he doesn’t wish for a character’s happiness. He just wishes they exist. His protagonist is a prime example.)

So, the conclusions he imagines in any life... I don't think they'd be quite right either. Why would they be, when the god dreaming of this universe never explicitly desired happiness at the end? Could you force someone to imagine happiness? 

Growing up with trauma, your wounds heal in a way to let you carry on. They are scars sure, but they’ve healed. His wounds were mended by this story. Could you look at how you’ve healed and think ‘this is wrong’? 

Kim Dokja would define his perceived age as ‘around 30’. Could you really look back at what got you through to this point in your life, the only good thing in your life, the only form of love you’ve ever received in your formative years and in your adulthood, and let it go that easily? 

I will put it this way: Your best friend helped you get through the worst moments of your life. You have so much gratitude and love for them. Even if life was a living hell, it was bearable because they were here. Now, the universe is telling you to let go of your best friend, just so you could live. Would you let go?

Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World is Kim Dokja’s best friend. This is how Kim Dokja perceives this story.

I have always had a hc that Santas totally could poof into their civilian selves for whatever reason, BUT NOT LIKE THIS. And I know it's just bc TA doesn't like the Santa prosthetics. Every single instalment of this franchise has him not being Santa-ie at some point and it is. EXHAUSTING. Scott's just exhausting. I miss movie Scott so gd much y'all

Also love that Mad Santa's plan was "maybe he'll notice me" lol. That's fucking funny. The elves sure did! But they don't want to be EXILED and I'm like, uh, I KNOW there was a clause for it but Scott doesn't know so maybe you guys need to chill? IF SANTA DOESN'T KNOW HE CAN EXILE YOU THEN YOU ARE SET!

But more than a year later, chapter 1053 (2022.06.20) reveal the new Yonkou lineup, and here's the cover of chapter 1054 (2022.06.25) :

Mock Town meetings ? Or foreshadowing ? They're going to kill me someday 😭
