I'm sorry, I know I should be very happy about Luffy being one of the Yonko, but I completely forgot about Buggy.
This is...amazing. How did he become an Emperor? I love him continuously failing upward, but I need to know how he did it.

Oda + Toei = top tier foreshadowing ?
Wano & Egghead spoilers under the cut (chapters 1053 to 1059)
Okay so these are the eyecatchers from episode 966 (aired on 2021.03.21) :
Back then and until recently I thought "the Roger Pirates are gonna be in Mock Town next so that's why they show us Teach and Luffy's first encounter..."
But more than a year later, chapter 1053 (2022.06.20) reveal the new Yonkou lineup, and here's the cover of chapter 1054 (2022.06.25) :
(Not only the combo is correct it's also displayed in the same order)
Just- How much insight about the next storylines or plot twists does Oda give to the people at Toei ?
I mean I know there's a time gap between the manga and anime and okay, they spoil us things in the openings often but- THIS EPISODE GOT OUT MORE THAN A YEAR BEFORE THINGS ACTUALLY HAPPENED 👀
Mock Town meetings ? Or foreshadowing ? They're going to kill me someday 😭
Or maybe Oda has a thing with patterns ? OF COURSE HE DOES, this is the cover of Volume 25... released in 2002 👀
...Either way One Piece will always blow my mind, I guess 😂
On a related note, I thought back of this panel in chapter 1059 :
I'm going to ignore the grief and the anger that Rayleigh must still feel 2 years after the war
I really think that "I really don't like you" sounds like "I don't acknowledge you (while I personally trained the other three Yonkou so I know what they're worth)" 😂

yeah he is far worse then akainu ( who at least genuinely believes that what he is doing is justice and hates cd , and wouldnt just go attack people to feel superior)
I mean lets look at the 3 things he is hated on for
( the destroyingoharas ship for the chance scholars may be on it when he could have just checked or should have decided that the civilian casualty is too great ( justified hate )
or bringing up attacking koby for daring to suggest they stop is justified
but killing ace and the deserters ( is when you can argue because killing deserters in a war is standard in the times of golden age of piracy ( and ned stark would do kill a deserter)
and killing ace ( lets be real here ace was a pirate slated for execution had everything gone to plan ace would have died to a grunt)
and if ace doesnt die the marines effort would have gone to waste ( akainus pov)
not to mention akainu focusing on ace and luffy due to their fathers ( their bloodlines and showings would mean they have a great potential for power so in akainus eyes it would be him stopping them from reaching their potential and becoming serious threats ( they were already pirates )
Ryokugyu aka Greenbull is Piece of Rubbish and a Bootlicker! [spoilers from ch-1053/54/55]
Now that we have context after chapter 1054 and 1055, he came to Wano because he got beat up by Sabo and couldn’t face Sakazuki without showing some results!
He thinks he is mighty and all important! He cares about his image as big shot in Navy! Because he wants to be seen as someone influential and respectable, after his defeat he has lost his face, by extension credibility. To earn a pat on the back from his boss, he wants to attack a defenceless and vulnerable country with full man power!
Well, guess what you are still rubbish.
This father*fuc*ker will lick the roads of people who are higher in the food chain! To him the Celestial Dragons are gods, not because they did something divine or helped humanity because they are symbol of absolute power. He would bend over for World Nobles and over his arse to them to let those ras*cals fuck him over and over again if it means he could rise up the ladder or earn some favour.
And he would do the same to anyone beneath him in the hierarchy of social order! He will exploit and abuse people beneath him and fuck them over at every opportunity if it means he can prove his worth.
People of Wano have no human rights in his eyes is because they are not affiliated to WG, so for him it is a lawless ground where he can take out his own frustrations and anger and execute his own fantasies!
That is exactly what is expected of a celestial dragon and this what a celestial dragon does when they visit any nation (affiliated or not). They trample on people beneath them because that fuels their superiority complex. And to experience that same superiority complex Greenbull has come to Wano, to trample on people of Wano, Capture Luffy and get praise out of Sakazuki!
I would’ve still overlooked his behaviour because he is on the antagonist side and we are meant to dislike him. But that overlooking would’ve happened had he been an ignorant participant of the propaganda and just doing what he was told. Or someone raised to believe in the system as absolute guiding path.
But this filth is an informed and active participant of reinforcing hegemonic ideas! He cannot be excused!
We understand it better now, when Shanks arrives on the seas of Wano and stops him from rampaging! Greenbull didn’t stop because he is weak or too afraid of Shanks. He stopped because he knows Shanks is higher on the priority list of World Government and Sakazuki had asked him not fuck up it further. But he came, because he wanted to avenge his humiliation at hands of Sabo.
My dislike for filth grows every passing second!
Greenbull aka Ryokugyu is a Filth!

i'm caught up with end of wano, so here's some parallels from one piece that could be or don't have to be connected, but are still pretty cool.
long post ahead & wano spoilers
protecting new era:
rayleigh protecting zoro at sabaody from an attack by kizaru, ch 511
luffy protecting law from an attack by doflamingo, with same move as rayleigh above, dressrosa ch 782
at the end of wano, ch 1055, shanks telling ryokugyu a similar thing as rayleigh above ("don't pick the buds before they sprout. their era is only just the beginning"),
shanks "when the new shoots that just changed pirating history are exhausted, (..) are you that afraid of the new era?!"
---
zoro king of hell
same page as luffy protecting law - with haki clashing against doflamingo, the panels after that talking about supreme king haki - qualities of a king,. in this context for doflamingo, ch 782
at amazon lily ppl reacting to luffy using supreme king haki, while he doesn't know he just did, ch. 519. "that's the haki of the chosen ones' only one in millions has that spirit!"
vs, zoro unknowingly unleashing haki of supreme king for (possibly) the first time, ch 997
and later during his rooftop fight against kaido, (and still denies/ doesn't know what they're talking about, which is very interesting). ch 1010
then during his fight with King, unleashing haki, which makes others around fall unconscious (as mentioned above to doflamingo is a sign of supreme king haki), ch 1033
and some more chapters later, claiming the title of King of Hell (funny in this context it was told to doflamingo he was chosen by the heavens, and for zoro he became the king of hell. smth smth about the character work there).,
and as always - connected to luffy and his dreams!. ch 1036
then there's the asura figure surrounding zoro's powers,
and i find it so interesting that on wikipedia about asura (which zoro's sword and fighting styles are also based on with hindu and buddhist religions) is mentioned they're "considered enemy of the gods"
i like how it's the same phrase as we also heard in the manga before form law's flashbacks about corazon, ch 764
this is in the context of the people with the D. name, and then mostly used for law himself, and luffy and how far he's come to truly wreck the world government, as well as them being a threat to the celestial dragons.
luffy and nika:
from point above, i like how the "enemy of gods" being applied to people with the name D. is also interesting in the context of luffy awakening his devil fruit powers, which are named sun god nika. (i know that in the phrase "enemy of gods" mean gods as the celestial dragons, but it's still interesting)
which doesn't take away from luffy's character as i was a bit worried at first.
he's testing the new skills and powers, and he sees how he can reach the new limits he couldn't before. it might have been the devil fruit that chose who would eat it, but it's luffy and his dream that make the decisons., ch 1045
and ch 1049
luffy in ch 507 & 1053, his core ideals are still the same
---
not fighting someone
shanks not fighting the mountain bandits, and luffy not understanding it, ch 1
jaya arc, luffy and zoro not fighting against bellamy, and nami not understanding at first, ch 225
and ch 1054, momonosuke telling yamato not to fight the navy guy because he wants to be able to protect wano, and let yamato go to the seas as he wants to - it's just that similar energy that luffy has when he tells someone not to fight (or when to fight), without almost any explanations.
also loved this usopp moment!, - could be paralelled to his whole character arc. ch 1036.
he's so real for saying this to kin and kiku (and samurai in general). he's always scared and sometimes can be acting like a coward, but he always, always, stands up for his crew and fights to live through whatever hell luffy puts in front of them.
-- wano was so good and there are so many thoughts about one piece in my head now, about each of the characters and their development/meanings/themes! OTL
#one piece#one piece spoilers#wano spoilers#one piece parallels#one piece meta#kinda#monkey d. luffy#roronoa zoro#trafalgar law#yamato#kozuki momonosuke#red haired shanks#zolu#if you squint#gif:op manga#gif:op meta#mine#i love their canon dynamics so much!! theres always something. zoro development? flashback to their first meeting or mihawk fight#someone telling luffy his crew is in danger? dont worry about that. zoro is there. his whole crew has his back!#someone saying they thought zoro is the captain? wrong! zoro doesnt forget to mention that luffy will be the pirate king. etc etc#insane about this animanga. truly#long post

If you're someone who's interested in collecting physical media, especially DVDs and blu-rays, I cannot overstate how good an investment a blu-ray drive for your computer is.
There are copious free resources that will allow you to digitize your collection for additional preservation and convenience... and I've placed them beneath this break!
MakeMKV: https://www.makemkv.com/
MakeMKV is the program I use for backing up blu-rays and DVD. It’s “free while in beta”, and as far as I can tell it’s going to continue to be in beta forever. You just need to register the program with the beta code, which can be found here: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1053. If your registration ever expires, you can just go to that post and they’ll have it updated with a new one.
“MKV” is “Matroska Video”, which is a container format (named after the Russian nesting doll) that collects the video track, audio track(s), and subtitle track(s) all into one file, which is super convenient for anime, because that means you don’t need to worry about making separate files for different combinations of dubs and subs. My understanding is that this is, essentially, a lossless video copy, and I’ve done comparisons comparing screenshots taken from video playing off the disc and from the .mkv, and I haven’t been able to notice a difference. As for playing .mkv files…
VLC Media Player: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
The Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP): https://download.cnet.com/Combined-Community-Codec-Pack/3000-2139_4-10966585.html
VLC is my media player of choice for watching back the stuff I back up. I’m not 100% sure if you need to download the CCCP for this- my backups play fine on my tablet just using the VLC app, and I recently found out they even work off a USB stick plugged into a Samsung Smart TV- but it doesn’t hurt to have.
MakeMKV can also be directly integrated with VLC Media Player to play blu-rays right from the drive, which is tremendously valuable if you're not interest in/don't have the hard drive space for digitization. I think I’ve encountered maybe one thing that couldn’t be played off the disc with this solution, and that was fixed in a subsequent update to MakeMKV. The full breakdown of how to do that can be found here: https://stolafcarleton.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1893/StOlaf/KB/ArticleDet?ID=128854.
MKVToolNix: https://mkvtoolnix.download/downloads.html
Different companies author discs differently, and I like to keep my stuff organized the same way, which is where this tool comes in. I won’t go into too much detail on this here, but if you ever need to split one large file into smaller files (for example, a disc has 9 episodes of a show to a single title/file, and you want to split them into individual episodes), edit or remove chapter information, or rename audio/subtitle tracks, this is the tool to do it. There's a lot to this, so I would suggest reading the official documentation, but I could also whip up a guide if people are interested.
HandBrake: https://handbrake.fr/
The video encoder for shrinking those backups down to size- my favorite example was getting all 49 episodes of G Gundam down from almost 300gb off-the-discs to just under 50gb. This is also going to be heavily dependent on how powerful your computer is, because encoding takes up a lot of resources. On my computer, which is by no means top-of-the-line, I’d say on average it takes about 50 minutes to encode a 24 minute episode of anime, and that increases exponentially the longer the source material is.
I got the settings I use in HandBrake from this incredibly detailed breakdown of how video encoding works: https://kokomins.wordpress.com/2019/10/10/anime-encoding-guide-for-x265-and-why-to-never-use-flac/#tldr-summary-for-x265-encode-settings. There's a lot of information there, too, but it also provides generic settings to plug in to HandBrake if you don't care to manually adjust the settings for each project you're doing.
And that’s everything I use for my process! A lot of this was trial and error with other programs that cost money, performed worse, and were generally aggravating to use. It's a bit of elbow grease, but the reward is that once something is digitized, you have it forever, exactly the way you want it.

Question, do you think you can take on Luffy after everything's calmed down like this?
Luffy beat Kaido one-on-one, and if you want to discount that by various factors, you'd also be facing all the other straw hats, the samurai of Wano, Yamato, a few other factors.
I don't think you have a chance of actually beating Luffy when you're up against all that.

read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/egIH5WG by ClTRlN3 A myriad of colors splashed across the night sky, illuminating the room with a glowing new vibrance, and Bakugou’s eyes were instantly drawn to the majestic scenery outside the window, enthralled by the whole imagery as well as the explosive sounds that had practically been a part of his life since he was a shitty four year old brat. “Beautiful, right?” Kirishima spoke out, the affection in his voice stripping Bakugou’s utmost attention away from the fireworks display. “Don’t you agree, babe?” or: During New Year's Eve, a certain couple shares a sweet private little moment together. Chapter 4 Deep Dive: Days 1053 and 1054 of the Insurgency
In Chapter 4 we see Crassus receive some news which spurs him to action.
This deep dive is looooong but this was a deceptively complex chapter and included probably the most amount of consideration, thought, and world-building.
Also, you may have noticed, but the Chapter names change depending on the POV character. Syrus' chapter refer to Day x of the Revolution while Crassus' chapter refer to Day x of the Insurgency, just to distinguish their perspectives on the fight even more. But the days are the same, so day 1053 of the Revolution is the same as 1053 of the Insurgency and vice versa.
I'll be talking spoilers below so if you haven't read my fic They Will Come For You In the Night yet, that's the link to the first chapter which starts with Syrus Reed, the other POV character. The link for Chapter 4 specifically is above.
This was the first tricky chapter to write. I wanted to include how the pre-rebellion economy worked as well as hint to the political and economic structure of Panem and the Capitol specifically that we see in canon and make the transition from one to the other as believable as possible. And harder still, I wanted to make that interesting to read. I tried not to include any actual economic terms that we'd use today, but there are loads references I make which have 1:1 counterparts to the real world.
The Economy
These were some of the facts I considered and the impact they would have:
I knew there were some industrialists in the Districts like the Plinths and I knew they made enough money to buy their way into the Capitol. Hence the distinction between districts with industries which are locally owned vs. owned by Capitol citizens.
Because of the above, I knew that there had to be an exploitative relationship between the locally owned districts and the Capitol because those districts wouldn't agree to rise up against the Capitol if they relied so heavily on them for their wealth, hence the mandatory 40% return of profit to investors. This is also an allusion to the fact that in most revolutions, the rebellion needs to, to a certain extent, appeal to the merchant class, or the petite bourgeoisie, in order to trigger the revolt against the owning class, or the haute bourgeoisie.
The districts which had local ownership also tended to become the Career districts because their economic structure allowed them to be more amenable to Capitol propaganda because of their geographic and economic proximity to the Capitol. We can see this in Plinth and Castor's relationship with the other Guardians and their perspective on the revolution as a whole.
I knew there was a well-established and strict class system within the Capitol itself from references to particularly powerful families like the Snows and the Cranes.
Because of the above, I knew that the families which own the means of production in the district specific industry are probably going to be far wealthier than the ones who can't afford to buy out those industries entirely, but can afford to invest, hence the different positions between Crassus and Moss. Kind of like Crassus and the Snows are billionaires, and the Moss's are multi-millionaires, both incredibly wealthy, but one clearly far wealthier and more powerful than the other.
Whataboutism
While not a comment about economics per se, I was very purposeful in making the Cranes the owners of District 11 for two reasons.
Firstly, the Cranes we've seen in canon, Arachne and Seneca, are cruel in thoughtless ways and never consider the consequences of their cruelty. Considering the over-policing and strict control we see in District 11, I knew a family like the Cranes would be more than happy to inflict that much harm.
Secondly, I wanted Crassus to have an example of someone who he considers mindlessly cruel and for him to blame the mindlessness, not the cruelty for the rebels' desire for revolt. This was rooted in a very real phenomena that we have seen in the past and even today. I based him off of some confederate generals in the American south who would've argued that he should be allowed to keep their slaves because they only whip them when they deserve it unlike the neighbours who do it for fun. He's that kind of guy, doesn't stop for a moment to think that the slavery itself is cruel. And in a more modern and currently very relevant context, the removal of a single powerful figure of an industry which is inherently immoral, even if replaced with a far more polite figure, doesn't magically make that industry moral. It's not the figurehead, it's the system, the structure, it's rotten to the core, changing one person won't redeem it.
Quotes
As for the quotes of this chapter, we're back with Frantz Fanon whose work greatly inspired Crassus' chapters. He makes a reference to cognitive dissonance which Crassus needs in droves because he constantly contradicts himself and his beliefs.
I also included a pretty spot on definition of fascism from Robert O. Paxton which I believe fits the political structure of the Capitol well. Though the Capitol doesn't explicitly try to externally expand its borders, I believe the expansion can also be social and economic. So the Capitol does seek to expand it's influence outside of its borders even if its physical landmass doesn't shift.
And the last quote is one that I included because I knew some of the writing for Crassus would seem a little ridiculous and extreme, and while reading Manufacturing Consent, I saw this quote from a 19th century MP in the UK who sounded EXACTLY like how I was writing Crassus. And while I know that the contemporary counterpart to that MP would never be caught dead speaking so plainly about their opinion on the working class, I hope everyone knows that this perspective is still very much alive and that there are people in power today, all over the world, whose internal monologue would be indistinguishable from Crassus'.
