Well your replies were reading in a way that made me feel like you were calling me homophobic. People DO think its canon, dont assume you’ve seen everything because I wouldn’t be saying it if I hadn’t seen it. How is someone supposed to know better when they see characters being drawn like that? How are they supposed to know its only a ship and not canon? I know first hand what its like to be drawn into a fandom by a ship, I’m basing my analysis off of my experience and it wasn’t a fulfilling one. My experience isn’t universal though. You keep basing your argument on the tv show, the intimacy you describe in the tv show is not in the books, though moomin and snufkin do have a wonderful platonic relationship in the books. Their relationship was mirrored off of a romantic relationship tove had. Her partner was away a lot and it made her unhappy because she wanted a close connection, so tove moved on. They remained friends. Tove wouldn’t put her characters in the same relationship that made her suffer, but its similar. I cant deny they’re very close, but you left out a very important factor, the fact that it’s mentioned very many many times that moomin is in love with snork maiden(at least in the books). This is why I think this ship exists just to satisfy peoples thirst for representation, some people just blindly ignore the other characters or just simply have no knowledge of her existence. Not everyone is like this! But some are! And its not even real representation! People are getting into this not because of the characters but because its gay. It can be a toxic beginning and it can get worse, even now, only a few weeks in to the boost in popularity, people are sexualizing the ship. Im not saying everyone is horrible like that, its probably just a small amount. Im not at all saying the whole ship is evil spawn of satan because it isn’t, lots of it is pure and they’re just doing it for fun-I’m not talking about them. The internet is just like that sometimes. Being mindful of what your actions are doing is a good trait to have. Im not saying its the responsibility of the shippers to manage the bad people, but it cant hurt to acknowledge that those people exist. Some people feel the need to sexualize their ships and I think its wrong to do it with a children’s book, simple as that(if you want proof people are sexualizing it ill be happy to provide) I mean, what if people started saying that winnie the pooh and piglet were in a romantic, sometimes sexual relationship? It just feels wrong. There’s heaps of misinformation too. Learning about the origin of the relationship between moomin and snufkin, and between other characters as well, or the stories or context or background would hurt absolutely no one. Im trying to encourage respect for the original work, even if its just knowing more about tove. Its not inherently wrong, this ship, just feels a little misguided. Its important to know what you’re talking about before you change things about it , ‘know the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist’. I wrote this originally to try and offer solutions or ideas to prevent what i see could be a potential problem in the fandom. Shifting the main focus of the fandom could offset this misinformation and misrepresentation, but thats what I think, and I’m not expecting anyone to listen to me, nor do i feel intitled to any kind of attention.

It really was a different time, maybe tove wanted her writing to be different but couldn’t because of the circumstances. She said herself if she was reborn she would live her life entirely different. But we cant change what has been done. We have no way of knowing if tove would have wanted this, or if she was holding back. It’s ignorant to assume we have a greater understanding of her just because we’re queer too. Its ignorant to assume we might know anything about tove. Her work is her work and i just want people to enjoy it for what it is, not because they were offered some false comfort in a gay ship because of the medias lack of LGBTQ representation. I can totally agree we need more representation in media, but actual, intentional representation, not interpreted rep. Maybe tove just wanted to write an adventure novel. Maybe she only wanted to write a children’s book. None of us know her good enough to tell.

Im not bitter, you have your opinion and i have mine, but Im glad this conversations over. Hope you may have understood, ever a little, where I was coming from. It was not a place of hate or self-pity/indulgence. This was not an effort to attack the ship or the fandom, i just want it to become better. Fandoms always brew disgusting things in their depths, and this fandom is no exception, it would just be nice if maybe we could try and discourage it. As I stated in my original post, this is one thing I don’t want the internet to kill. Im just trying to help. Thanks,

Thank you so much! And yes it is! You will have to do some touch up on it because when you get it it isn't quite as vibrant and gritty as you'd expect. It's very flat actually:

But I used some fake lashes and acrylic paint (always use some sort of sealant if using powder or makeup) and it came out really well!
