There’s always been a bit of anger in him from the very start. something his mother claims came from his father, but that was okay because he also had parts of her, too — gentler ones that would hopefully quell any uprising of temper.

If only her wishes came true.

Being born into a family of two failed fathers created several breeding grounds for rumors. Ones for each Yang sibling’s respective peers, their families, and even the adults spread within the neighborhood. How their mother dealt with such backlash ( both upfront and passive ) will never be known to either of them. Although, Chanyeol often debates that Eun gleaned more from her example than him.

It's bad luck that Chanyeol’s peers were of the nasty sort. They continuously picked on him for things that didn’t matter, just as a leeway to stir up trouble and have him take the blame once caught. And though Eun had told him time and time again that fighting back wasn’t worth it.. well, even his saint of a brother couldn’t uphold his own words sometimes. Even Eun cracked and let the vitriol guide his fists to shut the sneers and unjustified taunting. not that he’d ever let Chanyeol see that, of course, but word travels like wildfire.

Just into his teens, Chanyeol was caught in yet another dumb argument. He'd been in the way of this posse’s route and had the nerve to bump shoulders with one of them. He hadn’t touched a hair on their straggly head, but what did it matter? they pushed and shoved at him, testing his thinly kept patience until it snapped just like they wanted.

Four against one — needless to say, things were rough throughout the spat.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, there’d been two older kids around. both of which were there to pick up their younger siblings to walk home. Just like Eun was sent to do, albeit a little late due to his own close call with a fight right at the dismal bell. Yet he arrived just in time to see what was about to happen. How those ingrates had the intent to seriously harm Chanyeol for standing up for himself.  Thus, Eun flung himself into the frenzy, blinded by red for seconds until he had the sense to grab Chanyeol and run.

The part that sticks out to Chanyeol was the cleanup afterwards. How he cried and cried about how unfair everything was. Hadn’t they suffered enough already? Why do they keep saying such shitty things about them? what good does it do to act right if they don’t do the same? It’s unfair, unfair, unfair. and Eun agreed. He let chan-yeol spit out his emotions and hurt while he carefully patched them both up. He wiped his tears, told him how strong he was but this shouldn’t happen again. Nothing good ever comes from destruction and hatred. Yet even Eun's words sounded weak to his own ears and it’s clear that chan-yeol didn’t agree.

Still, Eun hugged Chanyeol until he stopped crying, made sure that he had something ready to eat for dinner, and then left for his part time as if nothing happened. And that was the worst of it all. How easily his brother took things in stride even when things didn’t get better because of it. so he decided to callous his fists and sharpen his wits right then and there. Just to survive school. just for a little while…

Except the penchant to shoot first and ask later never left. It planted its poisonous roots and gnarled over so deeply that he’s given up on trying to find a way out.

Between the efforts made to retain cherished memories, there’s another thing that both the Yang brother share. Stargazing has always been something that personally interested Eun. Those tiny specks would always be out whenever he got off shift in his adolescence. Help keep him company on the long walk home. 

Chanyeol, though? Not so much. Too many memories blurred among the shed of blood and bruising of skull. He always preferred to be within the concrete comfort of buildings rather than stay outdoors anyways. 

But what tied them together in this shared habit boils down to their mother. Later, when she was quite ill; barely able to function on her own— much less remember most things. Through all the struggle and strife both brothers upheld to care for her, there was a time where clarity broke through. Recollection dawned in those distant eyes. Familiarity livened the brown of her irises and for a moment, just a morsel of time, she greeted them with love and by name. 

The shock nearly brought them both to tears, of course, but they tried to refrain in favor of living fully in that short period of time. She asked about their day. Why they looked a bit haggard and at the edges. Have they been taking care of themselves? I know I’ve told you a million times, but health is the most important thing you can have in this world. 

Eun was the first to crack after that. Though he ducked his head in attempt to hide it, there was no use. She didn’t ask what was wrong, she didn’t have to, and instead chose to reach out with a shaking hand to dry his eyes. It went unspoken, but she knew. They all did.

“Take heart, my bright and strong sons, my pride and joy. We’ll all meet under the stars again.” 

The night of the funeral, they stayed out late on the plot. Not much was said between them, being so heavy with shock and freshly layered grief. But they all met under the stars like she said. Again months later and again every year after that.

Eun was the first to crack after that. Though he ducked his head in attempt to hide it, there was no use. She didn’t ask what was wrong, she didn’t have to, and instead chose to reach out with a shaking hand to dry his eyes. It went unspoken, but she knew. They all did.

♡ you trust minseok ♡ so the next time you’re teaching him how to keep those high notes ♡ he sees your troubled face and asks why ♡ which gets you talking ♡ you guess that you’ve been keeping it in for a long while ♡ or at least, more than you can handle ♡ you’re kind of pouring your heart out to minseok ♡ which is slightly awkward ♡ even though you both are friends ♡ you’re technically not supposed to mix personal and work together ♡ but minseok gives you sound advice ♡ perhaps because he’s older ♡ and the mature one in the group ♡ he tells you that it’s okay to have those feelings ♡ especially since jongdae had started all of this ♡ and that you should wait for the time to be right ♡ you heed his advice ♡ and are very very grateful for having a confidant in minseok ♡ a new one

♡ tbh tho minseok must’ve done something after you told him that day ♡ he would’ve ♡ because he also knew jongdae inside, out ♡ and pieced together that it was a mutual feeling

♡ when jongdae comes into the practice room the next practice you have ♡ he’s holding a small bouquet of flowers ♡ you don’t realise until he’s placed it on the keyboard beside you ♡ you’re really surprised  ♡ in a good way but you’re also kind of confused ♡ jongdae looks so so confident in front of you, smile wide ♡ eyes also crinkled up into the small crescents that you love ♡ there isn’t an ounce of nervous energy radiating from him ♡ you’re getting confidence confidence confidence ♡ and your heart is racing ♡ what’s going on ?? ♡ you lowkey are aware of what’s about to happen but you can’t really believe it ♡ y/n!! ♡ he says it in his usual playful tone which makes you smile automatically ♡ when you smile, the sun shines he sings ♡ and you smile impossibly wider ♡ and when you’re around, my world lights up he continues ♡ it’s his own rendition of baby, don’t cry ♡ you feel like crying ♡ not really, but you’re touched, to say the least ♡ do you wanna go out with me?? ♡ and you’re just like !!!! yes !! ofc i will ♡ he laughs at your excitement ♡ which makes you really embarrassed but he reaches over ♡ and messes up your hair ♡ it’s the usual thing he does ♡ and you’re glad that the atmosphere hasn’t changed

♡ jongdae’s a really sweet boyfriend ♡ he’s always looking out for you ♡ whenever he comes for practice, he gets you a drink ♡ and somehow he always knows the right drink to pick ?? ♡ he picks up your feelings from your texts ♡ and always comes at the right moments ♡ y/n you have to take care of your throat ♡ because you’re coughing incessantly ♡ role reversal !! ♡ bcs you’re always the one telling him not to strain himself too much

♡ he also walks you home ♡ or at least, to the door of sm ent bcs he can’t be caught in a scandal ♡ and he’s respecting your want to keep the r/s under wraps ♡ even tho he doesn’t mind announcing it

♡ you sometimes stay over at the dorm ♡ baek complains playfully but oh well minseok shuts him up ♡ you really like laying in jongdae’s arms ♡ while he might be smaller than the others ♡ he somehow fits your frame perfectly ♡ pillow talk !! ♡ and he’s just so, so warm ♡ you love it when he dresses comfortably ♡ sweatpants and his pair of glasses ♡ it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside ♡ and you always snuggle into him during the night

♡ but still, you both do get your fair share of fights ♡ because you’re both headstrong and like to push through tough times ♡ your motto is ♡ tough times don’t last but tough people do ♡ which, coincidentally, is his too ♡ and two headstrong people with differing opinions don’t really go well tgt ♡ but you resolve your differences amiably ♡ or when you do get into a fight ♡ you always end up going back bcs ♡ you understand each other the most

♡ all in all tho ♡ jongdae’s really fun to be around ♡ because he’s outgoing and carefree ♡ but at the same time, he knows what he’s passionate about ♡ which inspires you a lot ♡ and keeps you on your toes ♡ he’s a keeper ♡ and you know you won’t be letting him go so easily
