For the Unusual Fic-Specific Asks For Authors
Perspective Flip: I’ll write a scene from [that fic] from another character’s point-of-view
Would you consider doing Sharon’s point of view for The Hug™️ in Brenda’s bedroom from “where I’m going now, I don’t know”? If not, that’s totally ok! (I know that might not be one you want to revisit!) But, regardless I feel like I just want you to know that that scene is probably one of my absolute favorites I have ever read in fic or book. The tension, everything that’s led to that point, the absolute anticipation and intimacy is something I think about on a weekly basis. I can actually feel that scene, and I still hold my breath every single time I read it.💜
this made me like, GASP with excitement tbh
Sharon’s prediction, made over coffee and croissants with Charlie one morning while Brenda slept, was that Bobby and Joyce coming to visit would be good for Brenda in the long run, but perhaps set her back emotionally in the short term.
“We know she loves us,” Charlie said of the Johnson clan as a whole, “but we also know that she’s not much for visiting.”
Sharon thinks that it’s not the actual visiting that Brenda finds off-putting, but the time and the distance. Brenda’s family was always too far away, but even when they came to her, she worked through it all.
However, Brenda’s workaholic days seem to be behind her. Perhaps the best thing to come out of this overall shitty situation.
Sharon’s plan is to give the Johnsons space but she’s too curious to stay out of it completely, so she calls Brenda just to make sure everyone has arrived and been collected safely and earns a desperate dinner invitation for her trouble. Brenda’s high-pitched, casual tone is far more concerning than if they’d just spoken normally.
She’s worried that the keen observational skills that Brenda and, to a slightly lesser extent, Charlie have is a Johnson trait and that Brenda’s brother will take one look at her and know what’s in her heart. That she is and always has been harboring untoward thoughts about his sister.
Sharon dresses nicely for dinner. She doesn’t dress up, but she wears her designer jeans and the tailored blouse and spends a few extra minutes curling the ends of her hair. She let the sales lady in Sephora convince her that black eyeliner was too severe for her complexion and brown too dull, so she’d purchased a plum colored eyeliner to smudge into her lash line and she hates to admit that the woman was right and her green eyes do pop with minimal effort.
She stands on the porch for just a moment, wondering if she shouldn’t ring the doorbell, but that feels strange she gives a courtesy knock and lets herself in. The door is unlocked, of course, because it always is. It’s like Brenda wants to get murdered in the night.
Bobby Johnson looks so much like his sister that it’s a little disorienting at first. He’s taller than Brenda but only by a few inches. He has the same build, rail thin and wiry. The same coloring, the same wide mouth and deep set eyes. She remembers him from the funeral, but Sharon hadn’t sat that close to the family and everyone looks different in funeral clothes.
Introductions are made. Charlie is obviously nervous because she’s made a feast and keeps darting in and out of the kitchen, the backyard, her bedroom, never staying more than a few moments. She’s wearing the apron that Sharon got her for her birthday. Williams-Sonoma, a crossback chambray that she’d tucked into a whole basket of kitchen things. Sharon can see the little egg timer shaped like a peach sitting on the window sill now.
Dinner is delicious and the backyard glows warmly with string lights as the sun goes down. It all seems to be going fine at first, until Charlie’s mother starts asking pointed questions about what Charlie’s doing with her life out here in California and Brenda excuses herself and never comes back.
Of the two Johnson women that Sharon has grown so fond of, Charlie is the one most able to hold her own, so Sharon leaves the table too, carrying her plate and setting it in the sink. Brenda isn’t in the kitchen or the living room and the bathroom door is ajar. When Sharon doesn’t see her in the bedroom either, she feels a tendril of worry and moves to go make sure Brenda’s car is still in the drive way and she isn’t speeding toward Mexico, but then she sees her out of the corner of her eye, back against the wall, partially obscured by the open door.
She’s about to ask if Brenda is okay, but Brenda raises a finger to her lips and points to the open window. Then she extends her hand and Sharon takes it. Brenda gives her a good tug and she steps forward, and suddenly they’re flush. Sharon feels her heart jump as her blood starts to pump. Brenda reaches out and puts her arms around Sharon, so she does the same, melting into the hug.
Brenda smells like sunshine, like sunscreen and blooming jasmine and freshly cut grass. Sharon wants to put her face into Brenda’s neck and breathe deeply. She wants to run her tongue along Brenda’s jaw and slide her hands into all those blonde curls, but of course, she won’t. She squeezes harder in an effort to hold herself in place, on good behavior.
And then, as if Brenda has read her mind, Brenda turns and pushes her face into Sharon’s neck. Sharon’s entire body roars to life. She can feel every pore, every hair stand on end, every blood vessel swell. Her breath hitches and she tries to hold it together.
Out the window, she hears Charlie say something, but she couldn’t say what.
Brenda sighs and her breath is hot on Sharon’s neck. Sharon drags her hand up Brenda’s spine and she can feel each vertebrae through the fabric and skin. Brenda’s so warm and alive and as she moves her hand back down, she finds the hem of Brenda’s shirt.
When her hand moves back up, it slips under the fabric and slides along Brenda’s skin. Sharon didn’t mean to, she just can’t help herself. Brenda whimpers and arches her back, her breasts pushing into Sharon’s.
What are they doing? What are they doing? What are they doing? Why is Brenda torturing her like this? Does she know how Sharon feels? Did Charlie spill the beans? Is Brenda screwing with her? What are they doing?
Sharon feels the band of Brenda’s bra and Brenda’s exhale is a shuddery groan.
“Shh,” Sharon says softly. She doesn’t want to get caught and she certainly doesn’t want whatever is happening to stop. Her mouth is so close to Brenda’s ear. She presses her nose behind it, rubbing lightly, drunk on the smell of her.
Brenda twitches, like maybe she’s going to push Sharon away, but instead she puts her hands into Sharon’s hair and squeezes and Sharon can feel it in her scalp and then, in response, pleasure shoots down her spine and settles low. She’s breathing hard now, trying to suppress every urge in her body. Does Brenda even know what’s happening right now? Is she in there or is her brain locked away someplace safe where nothing can hurt her and her body is acting on autopilot… Sharon hopes not. She hopes that she’s the only one Brenda would touch like this.
She scratches the skin of Brenda’s back and when Brenda’s feet slide apart, Sharon’s body reacts and she angles her knee between Brenda’s thighs. Brenda sinks down with a whimper and Sharon can feel her, feel her center hot through Brenda’s cotton pants and the thick, dark denim covering Sharon’s legs. She wants to push hard against Brenda, wants Brenda to grind against her until she comes, Sharon’s tongue in her mouth to catch the sound.
They haven’t even kissed.
She pulls her hands out of Brenda’s shirt and cups her face instead, searching her eyes and hoping to find the answer. Is Brenda ready for Sharon to kiss her? Does she want it at all? Brenda’s eyes are glassy and her pink lips are parted, her breath coming out in little gasps.
It would be easy to kiss her now. But Brenda’s family is just on the other side of that wall, and Brenda looks dazed and lost and it wouldn’t be right.
Just as the arousal overtook her with lightning speed, Sharon now feels defeat coursing through her and she lets her head fall, landing on Brenda’s shoulder. Brenda hugs her again, their hearts beating fast and in sync.
“We should go save her,” Brenda whispers.
Sharon moves back, giving them some space and they part piece by piece until all contact is lost and all that’s left of the moment is Sharon’s tousled hair and Brenda’s wild, dark eyes.
this fic got published, for the one person left on earth who doesn't know that. buy it here!

References to DC
Superman and Supergirl: When both Jean-Louis Lumiere and Akosamesew Kanewopasikot were starting out as detectives, they worked under Reginald Šorm, a seasoned detective who was planning to retire at the time. When it comes to hearing the name of Jemima Szary, Jean-Louis knew this was the name of a swimmer who competed in high school with their school. Upon realising that Jemima Szary was the one who retrieved a murdered corpse from the river, Akosamesew thought that Jemima was his cousin because he misheard her surname.
It’s really a Superman reference where Reginald Šorm resembles Clark Kent (dark hair and glasses), while Jemima Szary dressed like what you’d expect Supergirl to do. As in she had a blue chambray blouse, red shoes and a red skirt at the time that it’s not hard to see where the wordplay’s hinting at, especially if you misheard it like Akosamesew. Supergirl may not always wear skirts, at other times not even a red skirt, but due to the television programmes and marketing campaigns she’s gained some notoriety in recent years for some people to get an idea of her and what she looks like. Somebody who’s into Superman and/or DC in some way would get the reference.
But somebody who’s into languages would also get it in some other way, with regards to how some words and names are pronounced that they can easily understand that somebody misheard or misremembered the name. As it would be with Akosamesew who thought that Jemima Szary is Jemima Šorm and concluded that she must be his younger cousin, even though Reginald refuted that and said that many of his cousins are the same age group as he is. A kind of dig at how convoluted attempts at giving Superman a female cousin is.
Cassandra Cain: The very character that Akosamesew Kanewopasikot is based on, both of them share an uncanny ability to read body language as a way to anticipate someone’s next move and at some point Akosamesew wore a similar outfit. He even had a similar mask before, but he got ridiculed for it. His own outfit when he was starting out his career was pretty similar to hers, but there are some differences and the biggest one is that he actually got kidnapped and brainwashed when he was made to do martial arts. He wasn’t allowed to speak Cree when this happened, so it’s only now that he’s relearning it in his late twenties.
Somebody said that Mera could’ve been Aquaman’s sister and would have been a stronger concept (in their own opinion) but it does make you wonder if some of the same concepts for characters like Cassandra Cain would work better if tweaked in some form, like what if Cass was forbidden to speak Cantonese by her racist dad and ending up internalising it. Which meant that she’ll do anything to fit into white society, even though she’ll never look like the average white girl. Akosamesew underwent something similar when he got brainwashed, though at present he is trying his hardest to undo this conditioning.
Another nod to the way Cassandra Cain got portrayed is that when Akosamesew forgot about something, he had to relearn it by undergoing martial arts class though not because some psychic rewired his brain. But that he merely forgot it, even if it put him at the short end of the stick. Although Akosamesew’s perfectly capable of speech, it’s Cree that he struggles with since it’s something he was forbidden to speak and hasn’t spoken in a long time. He even has a hard time understanding Cree syllabics, though he does his best to learn the language and even tries learning this. Let’s not forget that Jean-Louis is a natural blond, Cass’s best friend is a blonde white girl.

“Top Breathable Fabrics for Cool, Comfortable Summer Wear”.
Breathable Fabrics for Summer Wear: Stay Cool and Comfortable in Style
When summer arrives, so does the quest for clothing that can keep you cool and comfortable. The fabric of your clothes plays a huge role in managing heat and humidity, especially in warm climates. Breathable fabrics are essential to summer wear because they allow air circulation, wick away moisture, and are lightweight. Here’s a rundown of the best breathable fabrics to look for when choosing your summer wardrobe essentials.
cotton by colour with blouse  Breathable Fabrics for Summer Wear
Cotton: The Classic Summer Staple
Cotton is a top choice for summer wear because it’s lightweight, soft, and highly breathable. It allows for air circulation, keeping you cool while naturally absorbing moisture from the body. Cotton comes in many forms, from jersey knits to gauze and poplin, making it versatile for everything from T-shirts to dresses. However, pure cotton can take a bit of time to dry once damp, so consider blending with other quick-dry materials if you’re highly active.
Best Uses: Everyday T-shirts, sundresses, casual pants, and lightweight blouses.

 Linen: Lightweight and Super Breathable
Linen is a classic summer fabric that’s known for its airy texture and cooling properties. Made from the flax plant, linen is highly absorbent and dries quickly, making it perfect for hot, humid days. While it tends to wrinkle easily, linen’s natural, slightly wrinkled look is embraced as part of its charm. Linen clothes often come in loose, relaxed styles, which allows for even more breathability.
Best Uses: Button-up shirts, loose pants, breezy dresses, and beach cover-ups.

Chambray: The Denim Look, Minus the Weight
For those who love the look of denim but find it too heavy for summer, chambray is a fantastic alternative. Made from cotton, chambray has a similar appearance to denim but is much lighter and more breathable. This fabric keeps you cool while adding a touch of rugged style to your summer outfits. Plus, it’s versatile enough to dress up or down.
Best Uses: Shirts, skirts, and lightweight summer jackets.

Rayon: The Silk Substitute with a Soft Touch
Rayon is a man-made fiber crafted from natural sources like wood pulp, which makes it lightweight, smooth, and ideal for summer. Known for its silk-like feel, rayon is great for adding a bit of elegance to your warm-weather look. It’s often used in flowy, loose-fitting garments that allow airflow and keep you cool. However, rayon can sometimes lose shape when it gets wet, so it may not be ideal for high-sweat activities.
Best Uses: Summer dresses, skirts, blouses, and scarves.

Bamboo: Natural and Moisture-Wicking
Bamboo fabric is a newer favorite in breathable materials, valued for its soft, silky feel and eco-friendly qualities. Bamboo is naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial, making it a top choice for staying fresh on hot days. This fabric is also hypoallergenic and kind to sensitive skin. The only downside is that bamboo can sometimes feel warmer than cotton or linen, so look for blends if you prefer lighter textures.
Best Uses: T-shirts, activewear, and lightweight cardigans.

Performance Fabrics: Engineered for the Heat
If you’re looking for ultra-breathable clothing for outdoor activities or sports, performance fabrics like polyester, nylon, and spandex blends can be ideal. These materials are designed to wick away sweat, dry quickly, and allow for optimal airflow. Many brands also add UV protection to performance fabrics, giving you an extra layer of sun protection. Look for moisture-wicking or “cooling” labels to ensure the fabric is suitable for summer.
Best Uses: Activewear, gym clothes, swimsuits, and hiking apparel.

Jersey: Stretchy and Casual for Every Day
Jersey is a knitted fabric commonly made from cotton, polyester, or a blend of both. Known for its softness and stretch, jersey offers comfort and casual style in the summer. It’s highly breathable and allows for airflow, making it perfect for laid-back days. Jersey comes in a variety of weights, so choosing lighter jersey fabric is best for warm weather.
Best Uses: T-shirts, tank tops, and summer dresses.

Silk Blends: Elegant and Lightweight
While silk alone can sometimes feel warm, silk blends with materials like cotton or rayon provide a breathable yet luxurious option for summer. Silk is naturally breathable, has a soft sheen, and feels great on the skin. Its lightweight feel is especially suited for evening wear in warm climates, where you want something both elegant and comfortable.
Best Uses: Blouses, camisoles, and evening dresses.
Tips for Choosing Summer Fabrics
Check the Weave: The weave of a fabric can affect its breathability. Looser weaves allow for better airflow, which helps keep you cool.
Consider Moisture-Wicking Properties: Some fabrics, especially synthetic ones, are designed to wick moisture away from the skin. This feature can keep you drier and more comfortable in the heat.
Opt for Light Colors: Dark colors absorb heat, while light colors reflect it. For summer, choose fabrics in light colors to stay cooler.
Look for Blends: Blending fabrics like cotton with synthetic fibers can improve durability and moisture-wicking properties while retaining breathability.
Why Choose Breathable Fabrics for Summer Wear?
When the temperature rises, what you wear can make a huge difference in your comfort and overall experience. Breathable fabrics are essential for summer because they help manage heat, wick away moisture, and keep your skin cool. Here are some compelling reasons to make breathable fabrics your go-to choice for warm-weather wear.
1. Stay Cool and Comfortable
Breathable fabrics, like cotton, linen, and rayon, allow air to circulate freely around your body, which helps regulate body temperature. This airflow keeps you cool even on the hottest days, preventing that sticky, overheated feeling that heavier, non-breathable fabrics can create. Lightweight, open-weave materials allow your skin to “breathe,” letting you feel more comfortable all day.
2. Wicks Away Moisture
Sweat is inevitable in summer, but breathable fabrics can help manage it. Many breathable materials, including bamboo, rayon, and specific performance fabrics, are moisture-wicking, meaning they pull sweat away from the skin and allow it to evaporate quickly. Breathable Fabrics for Summer WearThis moisture management helps you stay dry and prevents the uncomfortable cling of damp clothes.
3. Reduces Skin Irritation
Heavy, synthetic fabrics that trap heat and moisture can lead to skin irritation and even rashes. Breathable, natural fibers like cotton and linen are gentler on the skin, reducing the chances of chafing and irritation. Bamboo, in particular, is known for its hypoallergenic properties, which makes it an excellent option for sensitive skin in the summer.
4. Provides UV Protection
Some breathable fabrics offer additional benefits, like UV protection. Many performance fabrics are treated to offer sun-blocking properties, helping to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. Breathable Fabrics for Summer Wear This is especially helpful if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors. By choosing clothes with UV-protective fabrics, you can enjoy added defense against sun exposure.
5. Minimizes Odor Build-Up
Sweat and heat can create the perfect environment for odor-causing bacteria to thrive. Breathable fabrics help reduce odor by allowing sweat to evaporate and by preventing moisture from building up. Fabrics like bamboo are naturally antimicrobial, which helps keep odor at bay and keeps you feeling fresh.
6. Eco-Friendly Options Available
If sustainability is a priority, many breathable fabrics, such as organic cotton, bamboo, and hemp, offer eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic fabrics. Breathable Fabrics for Summer Wear These materials are biodegradable, produced with fewer chemicals, and require less water to manufacture than some synthetic options, making them better for both you and the planet.
7. Easy to Style and Versatile
Breathable fabrics come in a wide variety of styles and textures, so you can maintain comfort without sacrificing style. Whether it’s a casual cotton T-shirt, a flowy linen dress, or a sleek bamboo top, breathable fabrics make it easy to look put-together in the summer heat. They’re versatile enough for any setting, from beach days to work events.
In Summary
Breathable fabrics are a smart choice for summer wear because they help keep you cool, dry, and comfortable while offering additional benefits like skin protection and eco-friendliness. Choosing clothes made from breathable fabrics means you can embrace the heat in style and comfort. So this summer, opt for clothing that helps you enjoy every sunny moment without breaking a sweat.
