It's here! DECAHEDRON is now live!
June 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of Artists on the Lam. Celebrate with us!
It was on Monday, June 6, 2011, that I published my first post on what would later be voted “Best Arts Blog” in the Chicago Reader’s Best of Chicago issue.
As part of the celebration, I've curated an international exhibition called DECAHEDRON.
Knowing from the start that this would be virtual, I wanted to involve more artists than I would for any physical show, as a way to truly take advantage of having an online platform (when getting interviewed about 2020’s acclaimed SLAYSIAN, one point that kept coming up was the silver lining of being able to exhibit bonus pieces as digital exclusives), and to truly fit a milestone anniversary.
I invited all artists from past shows, invited other artists I admired but hadn’t exhibited yet (likening the process to an episodic TV series where you wander the land embarking on different adventures and meeting different characters, and then in the end you go back and revisit all your old friends and ask them to be part of your heist), and—in keeping with the nature of Artists on the Lam group shows—put out an open call for artists too. Past, present, and future are all intertwined.
The result? A show with 74 artists, with over 350 works of art.
Hailing from all over Chicago, the country, and the world, DECAHEDRON's participating artists include:
Adrienne L. Glover (@a-glorious-art), Adrienne Powers, Agnieszka Ligendza, Alba Margarita (@albamargaritaart), Alex Kostiw, Alix Anne Shaw, Allen Vandever, Angie Redmond, Brianna Lynn Hernández Baurichter, Bruce Riley, Caroline Walser, Carrie McGath, Céline Browning, Chad Kouri (@chadkouri), Charlene Moy, CHema Skandal!, Chris Silva (@lovercraft). Christine Nicklos, Claire Ashley (@claireashley), Clarisse Perrette, Corinne Halbert, Cristy Corso, Czr Prz, Dan Castranova, Danielle Pontarelli, Diane Ponder, Emily Calvo, English Prevo, Glenn Wexler, Hazel R. Magnolia, Heidi Jensen, InsomniaBird, James Gu, James Jankowiak, James Mosher (@moshershow), Juliann Wang, Julius Dizon-Cruz Bautista, Justin Suico, Karen I. Chad Deploys Troops Near Libya After Rebel Attack
Chad is reinforcing its military presence near the Libyan border to ward off any rebel incursions following a deadly attack on army positions in the area this month, according to two people familiar with the matter.
War planes have been deployed to the northern town of Faya-Largeau and large military convoys have been seen leaving the capital, N’Djamena, the people said, asking not to be identified because they’re not authorized to speak publicly.
Rebels killed three military officials in an attack on Kouri Bougoudi, 35 kilometers (22 miles) south of the Libyan border, on Aug 11. The assault was claimed by a formerly unknown group called the Military Command Council for the Salvation of the Republic, or CCSMR. The government has since ordered all artisanal gold miners to leave the north.
Since assuming office in 1990, President Idriss Deby has faced as many as five major insurgencies, including one that was instigated by an ex-defense minister. Deby rose to power by ousting his predecessor Hissene Habre, who two years ago was sentenced to life in prison by a special court in Senegal for committing crimes against humanity.
The government has the situation under control and any rumors of a rebel offensive are false, Public Security Minister Ahmat Bachir said on state radio late Wednesday.
Chad has helped counter militant groups linked to al-Qaeda and Islamic State in neighboring Libya, which slid into lawlessness since the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Qaddafi.

Unfolded: Made with Paper / Available at www.draw-down.com / Exhibition catalog for Unfolded: Made with Paper, an exhibition held at the Chicago Design Museum which explored the unique properties of paper, as well as the diverse applications of paper as a means and an end in the work of contemporary designers and artists. While we are undoubtedly living in an era of digital technology, with more and more aspects of our lives playing out on screens, paper remains unparalleled in its importance and usefulness in design. Today’s designers, artists, and architects rely heavily on paper-based materials in the development, communication, and presentation of their ideas. Inspired by Container Corporation of America’s 1967 exhibition Made with Paper, Unfolded explores how paper endures as a a material that is seamlessly and transparently intertwined with our lives. The exhibition included works by 3st (Thirst), Alexander Skoirchet, Anna Filbert, Anna Mort, Art Paul, Barbara Cooper, Béatrice Coron, Bob Faust, Bobby Reichle, Bradford Hansen-Smith, Brian Bailey, Brian Steckel, Carly Faye Smith, Chad Kouri, Christian Saucedo, Cody Hudson, Coralie Gourguechon, Crew Potter, Daniel Le, Debbie Millman, Department of Scale, Eric Wolinsky, Hey J Min, Jason Michael Barrera, Jenna Blazevich, John Greiner, John Terdich, Joseph Michael Essex, Josh Grotto, Julie VonDerVellen, Karah McGeown, Ken Ragsdale, Kendall Bruns, Kitemath, Martin Venezky, Michal Janicki, Pegah Ahmadi, Pouya Ahmadi, Reina Takahashi, Renata Graw, Richard Shipps, Steve Messam, Trisha Martin, Yoonshin Park, Yuge Zhou, and Zim & Zou. #graphicdesign #typography

Happy Holidays & New Year From the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce!
Tumblr media
The holidays and new year are a wonderful time to reflect and spend time with loved ones. We’re looking back at this past year in awe of all the great things that were accomplished in Lakeview. We made so many wonderful memories at our community events, from catching local musicians playing on porches at PorchFest Lakeview to seeing Southport overflowing with adorable, funny and some scary costumes at Trick or Treat on Southport. We installed new murals, including Urbs in Horto by Ouizi and Aura by Chad Kouri, and completed the pathway for Phase 2 of the Lakeview Low-Line that connects Paulina to Ashland!
There have been many new businesses that opened in the neighborhood and others celebrated milestone anniversaries. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful business and resident community in Lakeview. Cheers to a great 2019 and an even better 2020! Enjoy the rest of the holidays and have a happy new year from your friends at the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce!

House Of Vans Chicago: Chad Kouri
Ever wondered what Chad Kouri would be doing had he not chosen the life of an artist? We got the skinny from the collage extraordinaire, right after his House Of Vans workshop, and dug into the real important questions...like whether he thought winter was better than Family Guy.

COLLAGE OFFICE
Organized by Melissa Oresky and Alice J. Lee Grand Opening: Saturday, March 23 from 1 - 4 PM From March 23 to May 12, 2019 Collage Office is a participatory project where gallery visitors engage with artists as they work, receiving an artwork in exchange for a pay as you wish donation. It will be the third and most elaborate iteration of “Collage on Demand” a project done twice before by Melissa Oresky, in which she moved a portion of her studio into a gallery space and made collages for participants who sat and talked with her as she worked. The collages were then given to the participants, who could choose to make a charitable donation in exchange. In partnership with designer Alice J. Lee, Oresky and a program of rotating “associates,” will turn the Franklin into a studio/office and a collaborative platform where artists create work for clients during set hours. Each artist will engage the client through their own making process, creating unique interactions and experiences, altering the space and adding to the archive of the project in real time. Collage Office will gleefully co-opt the conventions of office decor and entrepreneurship, implementing design and marketing strategies to frame the project. Donations made in exchange for artwork will be directed to a charitable cause or causes chosen as a group by the artists. Collage Office poses questions about how artistic labor is experienced and valued. How is it like or not like other professions such as therapist, lawyer, craftsperson, or repair person?  Can a gift economy be cultivated within a culture that values art as a commodity? The artist and visitor participate together in a transaction that is both personal and professional, addressing the exchange values surrounding artistic production. Artists: Leslie Baum Diana Gabriel Amber Ginsburg and Sara Black Jessica Harvey Erin Hayden Paula Henderson Gina Hunt Jaclyn Jacunski Brian Kapernakas Chad Kouri Allison Lacher and Jeff Robinson Alice J Lee Ayanah Moor Tim Nickodemus Melissa Oresky Erik Peterson Pooja Pittie Monica Rezman Nina Rizzo Jack Schneider Ann Toebbe Selina Trepp Erin Washington Rhonda Wheatley
THE FRANKLIN 3522 W. Franklin Blvd, Chicago IL 60624 (312)823-3632 Hours: Saturdays 2-5PM and by appointment http://thefranklinoutdoor.tumblr.com/ Instagram #thefranklinoutdoor
