A boy with the last name Summers born on the night of the winter solstice, and then given a fall-themed name. First of two children, older brother of @florasummers​. Takes big brother role very seriously. Family is everything, loves his parents and sister to pieces and always has. 

Was named after Octavius Catto, was conscious of his unusual name growing up but has thus far come to own it. But quickly adopted the nickname “Tavian”, doesn’t care who calls him what. 

Spent all his childhood at Second Chances, even though the business wasn’t his calling it was what reminded him of his family and it was the Summers’ pride and joy

Always wanted to go to college, but knew that while his family wasn’t poor, they didn’t exactly have money lying around for education. Had accepted that he’d either be in debt from student loans or go to community college to save on the costs, until he was told to apply for the Starlings’ scholarship as a young bright mind from Crescent Harbor. He was awarded the funds on the same day he got his acceptance letter for the University of Washington.

Moved to Seattle for school but came home almost every weekend. Didn’t want to ask his parents for money, so he worked while studying to offset living expenses: worked as a research assistant for his favorite professor on some days, and then as a barista on others. 

Met a fellow student in his final year and fell in love, stayed at UW to do his master’s while waiting on her to finish her degree. They then moved to California together, where Tavian began his PhD at UC Berkeley.

Proposed to Amy on their fifth anniversary, but the engagement didn’t last because both of them were too focused on everything but their relationship. They parted ways and Tavian finished his doctorate. Made the surprising choice to return to Washington for his postdoctoral fellowship, even with more prestigious institutions having wanted him. Plain and simple, he missed his family. 

Currently a postdoctoral research fellow in Crescent General’s behavioral health department, in his final year of his fellowship and hopes to apply for his license to practice when it’s complete. 

He’s in Crescent Harbor to stay: he wants to give back to his own community. Hopes to focus on mental health in men of color once he begins practicing on his own. Also might join Gerard and Abigail on a future project, time will tell 

His entire family lives downtown and he also works there, but he lives in Hemlock Docks. Still goes by his parents for dinner all the time, though. Invites his friends sometimes, and his parents are more than happy to welcome them. 

Overall a decent guy, has a bit of a superiority complex after years in academia and has a bit of tunnel vision when it comes to his research and work. 

MISCELLANEOUS 

Could afford to live in Downtown or Bywater Park, but chooses to live in Hemlock Docks because he finds the people there more enthralling. Has a perfect view of Fear Knot from his apartment and loves to observe the patrons when he’s not one of them himself.

His go-to drinks are stout and porter beers, though he does enjoy whiskey when he’s feeling indulgent. 

Getting a pet soon - idk what but that’s a future plot point/thread idea (who am I kidding it’s gonna be a cat who he can be a clown with)

Doesn’t care when people don’t refer to him as a doctor, unless their reasoning is that he’s not “a real doctor”.

Psychoanalyzes everyone and gets a bit too intense about it sometimes

He was in CH all his life, and up until he left for his PhD he was in between CH and Seattle so he can have a bunch of connections - friends, frenemies, enemies, exes, neighbors, classmates, etc.

ABOUT

(PARENTAL NEGLECT & FOSTER CARE TW) Was born as Brandon Lewis to a teen mom in Seattle who loved him, but was unable to provide for him so he was taken from her care shortly before his third birthday. He bounced around foster homes in the Seattle area for two years, always either going alarmingly silent or lashing out - never any in between. The only person who ever loved him was no longer there, and he spent his childhood craving it and being angry that it was taken from him. 

He landed in the home of Michael and Theresa Winter when he was five, and he continued his usual behavior and expected that he’d be taken back to social services but instead of frustration and contempt, the Winter family treated him with compassion and forgiveness. He went to a child psychologist to help with his childhood trauma and was officially adopted two years after staying with the Winters. Changed his name to Brandon Winter at this point.

Excelled in school, got accepted to Boston University for college. Was excited to go until he found out Lara was pregnant, considered deferring acceptance but his parents encouraged him not to. Missed Mason’s birth due to his freshman orientation being that weekend, still feels guilty about it RIP. But college was fun otherwise. Spent 5 years there in a combined BA/MS Computer Science program, getting many job offers after he graduated and stayed in Boston. Got paid really well because tech industry, was able to return to CH twice a year to visit his family. He video called them all the time while he was in Boston.

Slowly began to realize that he missed Crescent Harbor once he fell into the habit of doing nothing but working and coming home to an empty apartment. After looking into his opportunities in Seattle, he resigned from his company in Boston and returned home a year ago. Has since been working for a software company in Seattle, commuting to the office twice a week and working remotely otherwise. Spends some of his time actually working from home, other times he’s at the coffee shops around Crescent Harbor. 

In the process of getting licensed to foster a child, something he couldn’t do easily in Boston. Owns a 3 bedroom home in Bywater Park and just waiting to complete his training. Whether he ends up fostering to adopt or simply providing a temporary safe haven, he hopes to give another child the opportunities that Michael and Theresa have given him, as they allowed him to be the success story that is Brandon Winter. 

MISCELLANEOUS

Loves the idea of having a pet in theory, but doesn’t want to pose any complication when it comes to allergies of his future foster children so decided against it. Would 10/10 volunteer at the animal shelter or pet sit for a friend, though. 

Hates Apple products, will go on for hours about the superiority of PC and Android

Has never travelled outside of the United States and Canada, but really wants to. He could afford it, he just never actually got around to it. 

Likes being outdoors, but only for a limited amount of time. Hates camping or anything that involves becoming one with nature - he likes to set some boundaries in this relationship.

Had not driven a car in 8 years until his return to Crescent Harbor last year, doesn’t mind doing it but also misses having reliable public transportation

Very fitting for a man with his last name, winter is Brandon’s favorite season. However, he only likes it when he can stay indoors all day. Don’t even think about asking him to do winter sports. 

On that note, he’s pretty active and goes to the gym almost every day. If he doesn’t, he’s usually outside running. 

The college kid in him will attend any event once there’s free food involved

Always willing to help with any laptop or phone issues you have, but can get annoying about it - he really gets into his work

"Ohhh, I think you'd be surprised." there's a small smile there, right before it morphs back into business when he picks up the weapon to examine. "I may not be a pilot-- but I've seen my fair share of fried machinery." he turns it a few times in his hand, humming as he does for a good minute. He's very meticulous, running his hands carefully over the blades.

"Ah." Eric manages to pluck one of the 'feathers' carefully out of the base of Taylor's saber. For what reason isn't super clear until he raises it up to the light and it looks ever so slightly more... rusty. With a more red tint towards the quill. And with a gentle gingerness that he rarely shows, he hands the saber back to her. "That should do it."
