The insects that cling to Vash rarely pique Knives' personal interest. Initially, he overlooks Milly Thompson entirely. Her personality is bubbly, kind, and gives off an air of naivety. She is sickeningly sweet and the exact type of person Knives tries to avoid.

Seeing her in a fight is what changes Knives' tune. Milly's use of heavy weaponry and general skill clashes with her perceived personality, and it's enough to capture Knives' idle curiosity. If nothing else, picking on one of Vash's pets could get under his skin.

Once Knives sets his sights on Milly, it's just a matter of catching her off-guard alone in a room. He uses his body to block the door, casually leaning against the door frame with his shoulder and head resting against it.

"Ms. Thompson," Knives purrs in greeting. Nothing about his tone or body language inherently carries any ill-intent, but there seems to be a naturally malicious aura about him all the same.

For anyone wanting a breakdown of Inej's knives and where she keeps them:

Sankt Petyr: kept in a quick release sheath on her right forearm. Named after patron saint of archers, who was renowned for his bravery. Petyr was Inej's first knife and a gift from Kaz.

Sankta Alina: kept in a quick release sheath on her left forearm. Named after Sun Summoner Alina Starkov, patron saint of orphans and undiscovered gifts. Described as a "slender, bone-handled blade." Probably also given to her by Kaz.

Sankta Lizabeta: kept at her waist on her belt. Named after Sankta Lizabeta of the Roses, the patron saint of gardeners. Described as a "blade etched in a pattern of roses."

Sankta Marya: kept in a holster strapped to her thigh. Named after Sankta Marya of the Rock, the patron saint of those far from home.

Sankta Anastasia: kept in a holster strapped to her thigh. Named after the patron saint of the sick.

Sankt Vladimir: kept hidden in her boot. Named after Sankt Vladimir the Foolish, patron saint of the drowned and unlikely achievements.

She also wears knee pads that have "tiny steel blades" hidden in each of them, activated by a trigger on her ankles.

Truce - Ch3 Preview 2/?

This is in reference to this. I’m agog that I’d somehow forgotten to share this upcoming scene in Truce its entirety—when I thought I had. Honest mistake, luvs. I shall rectify it immediately.

A snippet of my favorite part from this lil interview section:

“Not to worry. Between you and me”—the chair creaked as he leaned in, lips quirked sideways, his brows expressive, and his hand hovering beside his cheek—“Butcher and I got a secret bromance happening behind the scenes, I tell you what.” The discreet Lavalier microphone clipped somewhere on Homelander’s supersuit had picked up the hushed whisper, making the audio crisp and clear. Thirteen different camera angles captured Jimmy’s brows shooting up. He repeated, “A bromance.” “Yep. A bromance for the ages. Color me stoked.” The plastic shell of his features melted away, resembling a more complete flesh-and-blood human. Easing back into his seat, Homelander said, “I just think, like with any large and aggressive attack dogs, as owners we have a responsibility to properly train and socialize them. Now I don’t own a dog myself but if I did, I would keep my mutt on a short leash—and obedient only to me. He won’t bite, not unless I tell him to.”

A/N - I’m sure y’all remember Jimmy Fallon’s cameo in S1. It only makes sense to replace Translucent with Homelander now. I originally considered Cole Cameron to ask the hard hitting questions, but he dies in S4 (thanks, Ashley). So I elected to not go with him.

And the line about Butcher not being caped but quite clearly dark is lifted from the comics, as a lil Easter egg ;) but I changed it from Black Noir to Billy because Homelander’s doubling down on the lie/ cover story that he’s the one who “reached out his hand and brought Billy back from the path of villainy by inviting him into the Seven” 🙄

*Note: as always, keep in mind this is taken from an earlier draft; so there may be a couple changes in the final draft that’ll be posted to AO3 when the chapter’s ready. But this sneak peek is pretty much as close to its final draft iteration as you'll see.

Traveling alone is more difficult than Knives anticipated, but he perseveres. If only because he can't stand the thought of crawling back to Vash like a dog with it's tail between it's legs. Sharing a face with one of the most recognizable people on the planet poses the largest problem for Knives. Especially when any heavy use of his powers runs the risk of causing his immediate death. It leaves him feeling profoundly vulnerable. A large hooded cloak obscures his identity to a degree, but it's only a small comfort. The fact that all it takes is one person looms over him constantly, and-

Knives freezes when he recognizes a familiar face amongst the handful of people wandering down the road. The Double Fang. Damn it. Worse than someone who might mistake him for Vash, Livio knew exactly who he was and had every reason to want revenge on him for what he did.

Intellectually, Knives knows the longer he stands frozen in the path, the more likely he is to be noticed, but he also knows that if he leaves too abruptly it's just as likely to draw attention. It's a move he should be able to make in seconds, but hyper awareness of his own mortality locks him in choice paralysis. It's frustrating, but not enough to do anything more than scowl and hope Livio overlooks him. Starter for @stovthearted.
