Cg!Blaise coming back to his dorm from quidditch wondering why the reader wasn’t at his game but find them very little on his bed just colouring pictures for when he returns
“Thanks for saving me out there zabini” Theodore said while taking off his shirt. “No problem, do you know why y/n wasn’t here?” Blaise asked him, grabbing his bag and hoisting it over his shoulder.
Blaise always knows where you are just incase if you slip. He even made a little schedule for you and keeps it in your bag and his.
“No I don’t man, maybe she’s in the common room” Theodore suggested grabbing his bag as well.
A few minutes later blaise walked in the common room but you weren’t there. He quickly walked into his dorm hoping you were there.
Luckily you were there with a paci in your mouth and drawing with your new crayons. “Daddy! Wook! I dew u a piwture!” You babbled ripping out the piece of paper you were coloring on from the sketch book.
He chuckled putting his bag on the small table near the corner and making his way towards you.

Blaise absolutely lights up at explanation, and he smiles widely - a spitting image of his mother once again. “Okay!” He says, a newfound confidence and pep in his step as he moves forward. He helps with some boxes and gets settled in the room. There’s potions and alchemy kits and a lot of books. His collection of HG Wells books are the most carefully handled, as well as a handwriting book that has notes in someone else’s very neat cursive. He puts his mom’s Warehouse badge on the table, right next to a photo of him with her, smiling and laughing. He puts a few more photos up: some places that are in Skyrim, more of him and mom, some of him and Maggie Sawyer, some of him with a girl about his age and Jo, some of him and Susan Vasquez, and others. There’s a full box of things that were clearly his mom’s. Some of them have sticky notes and names on them - including one that says “CG”. It’s a bag, Chanel, and not on the market. “Mom said this’ll come out in a few years,” he said with a fond smile. “She always said she wanted to consistently show up where you were with something that wouldn’t be released in years, just to... uhm. I think the words she said was ‘flex on you’?” He shrugs. “She has a full closet of this sorta thing somewhere, but I could never find it.”
Eyes roll, nearly fond. "That does sound like your mother. I wouldn't be surprised if she put in her will to have someone shed on the entire closet in her honor and posthumously put up a billboard somewhere depicting me as a cat."
Still, she smiles, helping him to tidy up and settle his things.
"Make sure you always leave a few things of hers out for yourself."
She always has, after all, of her own father.
"Now it's starting to look like your room. I'm sure Blaise will help you paint it. What color? Go ahead, the world is your Seashell Gray or Eggshell Oyster."

Hi yo! I've been following your work for a while now, through the reblog site of mine! I enjoy all the 2D animation. I learned about Tonko's great animation tutorials through you too, so thank you! Do you have any more advice on how to in prove 2D animation? Like any other great videos to watch, or excersizes to do? And how do you specifically work on timing? You've gotten quite good at it! Thanks! -Melissa
Hi there! Firs of all, thanks so much! So great to meet a fellow animator :) I know right, Toniko’s tutorials help me sooo much as well! His recent one on breakdowns is fantastic! As for other tutorials, I find them super rare, sadly :/ Aaron Blaise has some nice animation advice on youtube, though, and I like Andres Deja’s Blog, Deja View, that has some great observations on animation and character design. There are a few helpful things on the website Animator’s Island as well. Other than that, I think the Animator’s Survival Kit by Richard Williams and Eric Goldberg’s Character Animation Crash Course are the two books that have helped me a lot, especially the Eric Goldberg one is fantastic for people who already know the basics, which I suppose you do from looking at your beautiful work.
Timing is a pretty difficult thing and I have to admit that I still don’t like to work with charts. I rather like to plan my animations by drawing the keys, play them with the desired length(for example have the important frame be there for a second, the quick action just a quarter second etc, the next half as long etc), so that I have that rough skeleton of the animation. Then I refine it by filling in breakdowns and adjust the timing, how long each frame is supposed to be on the screen. After that, I only have to fill in the inbetweens to make it look more fluid. It feels like being a woodcarver who works from rough to detailed but never looses the overall idea of the figure, if that makes sense.
I learned that kind of working from watching CG shot progressions like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4xsqnQeFeE
See how blocky the animation is at the beginning, still the timing is very well defined, and you have a feel of character and weight from the beginning. You don’t have to constantly worry about if eyerything is going to work out as you planned, because you see how it’s going to look very early. That way, you have better control over your timing.
Please take all of this with a grain of salt; it’s simply what works best for me. There are a million ways to organize your animations, and I’m still learning myself.
I wish you a lot of fun and inspiration, though! All the best!

Identification of the Essential Oils from Annona senégalensis Pers. Sous-espèce Oulotricha Le Thomas (Annonaceae) | Chapter 07 | Advances and Trends in Biotechnology and Genetics Vol. 3
Annona senegalensis Pers., Oulotricha Le Thomas subspecies (Annonaceae), is an evergreen shrub that is used for ethnomedicinal purposes and as a source of food. The chemical composition of the essential oils from leaves, stems bark, roots bark, epicarp and mesocarp of these plant, growing in Brazzaville (Congo), were analyzed by CG and CG-MS. These oils essentially contain sesquiterpenic compounds (58.3-97.7%), dominated by oxygenated sesquiterpenes (21.8-88.3%), with elemol (13.2-35.0%), β-and γ-eudesmols (3.7-58.3%) as characteristic components. The essential oils from roots and stems bark is distinguished by its high content in diterpenes (17.1 and 11.9% of the total), while the seeds presents a significant amounts of monoterpene hydrocarbons (25.8%) with α-pinene (6.2%) and β-phellandrene (11.5%) as major components accompanied by two oxygenated monoterpenes : bornyle acetate (4.5%) and smallest of 1,8-cineole. However, in the epicarp oil, the presence of about 5.8% of oxygenated monoterpenes as terpinen-4-ol and bornyle acetate in comparable rates (1.7%) was noted. The mesocarp oil is exclusively rich in aliphatic fatty acids (35.8%) which is absent in the other organs, but represented by lauric acid (18.0%), hexadecanoïc acid (8.6%), myristic acid (7.2%) and oleic acid (2.0%). Results were compared with same species collected in the democratic republic of Congo and in Cameroon essentially dominated by monoterpenes (84.2 and 87.6%).

“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” You chanted running towards mattheo. He smiled before effortlessly picking you up. He hoisted you onto his hip as you tried to wiggle out of his grip.
He peppered kisses on your face before letting you down. “Why’s she so energetic today?” Mattheo asked watching you run around in circles.
“Gave her a bit too much candy” Theodore chuckled. “Cmon love it’s time to go home” Blaise called out to you. You ran towards him hugging his waist since he was so tall. He held your hand as you all began walking back home.
“You better hope she calms down Theodore, her nap is in an hour” Draco said. “Doubt it. remember the time Pansy gave her 5 pumpkin pasties and she didn’t calm down until 2 hours later?” Mattheo added causing them all to chuckle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“No baf! No baf!” You chanted giggling loudly. Theodore sighed chasing you around the room once again. Mattheo chuckled at your antics while Draco was making you another bottle.
“What do we do she won’t calm down” mattheo asked Draco who was sitting right next to him. “I’ll go make her another bottle” Draco sighed getting up from the bed. He grabbed his coat from the rack before going down to the common room.
5 minutes later, he came back with another bottle. But, this time it was different. He laced the bottle with a sleeping enhancement. When he was down in the common room he ran into Adrian. “Hey Draco, how’s tiny?” Adrian asked giving Draco a handshake.
“She’s good a bit hyper right now, how you doing?” Draco asked with a slight chuckle. Everyone knew you were a little, during the year they all developed a nickname for you. Tiny was the name, and you loved it.
“Good. Hey theirs a slytherin party next Saturday since we won the championship if you wanna come” Adrian suggested. “Alright I’ll ask the boys but I’ll see you tomorrow for quidditch practice” “later” Adrian said walking back to his girlfriend.
You shook your head with a giggle trying to squirm out of Blaise’s grip. “Settle down love” Blaise said holding on to your waist tighter. “Nooo! Wanna pway!” You whined. “I don’t know what to do Draco, she’s still hyper and it’s been an hour and a half” Theodore said worriedly.
“She needs a nap Theo, we just need to give her something to help her sleep” Blaise said matter of factly. “Draco just give her the bottle you have” mattheo said not moving his eyes off his book.
“Here bunny, drink this and we’ll give you more candy ” Draco said handing you the bottle. You grabbed the bottle and drank it slower and slower as the charm started to work on you.
You let out a tiny yawn before snuggling into Blaise’s chest. They all let out a sigh of relief. Not another minute after, you were fast asleep.
PHOT201 - Weird & Wonderful ‘Alienated Spaces’ - Anthony Haughey ‘Settlements’- Research
I was made aware of Haughey’s work thanks to the previous GCOP200 reflection lecture. Haughey documented the abandoned housing estates, after Ireland’s Celtic Tiger eventually collapsed with the recession of 2008. The Celtic Tiger was an immense shift in economy as well as the culture of Ireland. I only really know about the Celtic Tiger because of Ireland’s love of Japanese cars, and with Ireland’s rather relaxed importation regulations, the Celtic Tiger opened up the floodgates for Japanese imports, giving Irish petrolheads their fix of Japanese automotive delights that most other countries very rarely get. As soon the the recession hit Ireland, governmental spending such as housing was dropped, leaving many in-progress housing estates left unfinished and many homeless. Haughey’s work not only documents these ‘ghost estates’, but also the economic growth on the shifting population and the physical environment. The changed landscapes have changed from natural rolling hills to half-finished housing for those in need. Haughey also manages to document a dreaded sense of isolation with these landscapes; an almost alienated landscape, from a country that isn’t sure where it’s going - especially in the light of current regarding Brexit.
Tumblr media
The first thing one notices is Haughey’s use of light. These photographs are set at between sunrise and sunset, with the ominous glow of artificial lights. The exposure times are also rather long, note the movements in the clouds are spread across the sky and the large DOF, which can be directly related to a narrow aperture. The photographs also have that sense of scale that only large format can capture, which also can be seen with the controlled perspective (no leaning buildings). The focal length is also towards somewhat wide, with the large format equivalent to around 35mm I would of suggested, as the lens is letting in a lot of the surrounding areas as well as the housing.
In this shot, there seems to be am emanation of orange light, perhaps sodium street lights being transformed by the long exposure time? This seems to be shot at sunrise, as the light is somewhat diffused - but this can also be said for sunset so it’s hard to tell. The colours are also rather banal, and mundane. There is nothing flashy or bombastic, reflecting the drab nature of Ireland at the time. The housing estate is also placed in the background, not even obviously framed in shot and keeping the muddy work road along with the shifted rubble placed in the foreground. The path is also conveniently composed to lead directly to the ghost estate.
Tumblr media
Here is an example of a not-so finished housing estate. I particularly like the framing in this shot. The barely built house is composed centrally, again with the landscape placed more in the foreground. There is almost a painterly theme to the lighting, with the artificial light exposing parts of the estate. I would of thought that this shot was taken at night, and the film has been overexposed to create this day for night effect - obviously taking into account the reciprocity of long exposure in film photography. Having such a long exposure also creates this flat lighting across the frame, with only the highlights really sticking out. But this level of flatness also raises the effect on man’s influence on the land, and how it has been changed by earth moving machinery.
Tumblr media
There is something very ominous about the lighting here. An almost surreal glow of orange engulfs the estate like a form of alien invasion. The disturbed land can certainly be seen here - mounds of earth have been moved and made way for housing estates, which thanks to the Celtic Tiger, gave promise to many for affordable housing, but it was all in vain. There is something equally as depressing of seeing an empty housing estate, just left to do nothing despite many being very close to completion. These places are currently in limbo, not being funded by the government, but not being dealt with either. But, it is noted on Haughey’s website that security guards are present, so money is being spent by keeping these places free from intruders.
Tumblr media
Another emanation of orange, but behind a skeletal remains of a house. The lighting in these photographs seem to unrealistic, almost manufactured to the point at where it looks like a CG render. The isolated nature of the photographs is what first appealed to me with this project. Often, there are people cluttering the shot, where I feel that it would of been a lot better without them (something I don’t like about Stephen King’s ‘Here There’. Whilst I do like some of those images, I don’t like the inclusion of one or two people. It might seem like an oversight, but I am not exactly a fan of one or two people littering the frame. Thankfully, Haughey’s locales are desolate, with a haunting stillness that fills the frame.
Tumblr media
“Rows of houses, all bearing down on me”. Something that becomes apparent when viewing these photographs, is the potential and what could of been. These could of been perfect estates for families just starting out, or immigrants coming into Ireland with new hopes and dreams. Instead, they have become isolated, and alienated from the capitalist system which ultimately shafted the populous. In a sense this project could be seen as an alternative view on my project. Whilst mine focuses more on the personal alienation of this society, Haughey manages to document the isolated nature of the stranded hopefuls that never got their housing they so desperately wished for.
A coda. Haughey has not just informed me into how the recession of 2008 immobilised Ireland’s economic growth, but also how far it reached within the country. Haughey also shed light onto the extent of the damage that money can cause when those in higher places pull the strings, and accidentally let go. Aesthetically, the photographs are imposing, but not too much that they stand out with a blaise feeling of it’s semiotic intent. Speaking of which, it’s semiotic is unassuming, whilst also documenting it in a manner that speaks loudly. Haughey’s way of capturing the scene with an ethereal glow creates an odd otherworldly feeling towards the image, which I feel haunts the scene - this project would of been very different if the lighting wasn’t the same. This goes to show how important controlling the light is. Being a photographer, the light is all you really need to think about, and how you’re going to control it. Being able to control what it is doing and get it right is something that all photographers need to be able to do, as that’s the sole intention of photography.
I am grateful that I was able to be shown Haughey’s work, as it’s informed how I can frame my own photographs, as well as the inspiration to shoot in darker situations if I so please. It also informs me on how the semiotic can be presented, and it can be fairly ominous without it being obvious; almost having a level on ambiguity.
