She’d screwed up. Kate knew that. The mission had been a complete fail. Usually it wouldn’t have mattered that much, she could figure out how to fix it, but this was different. Clint had come specifically to help her with this mission and she’d screwed it up while he was there. Her chest felt tight and her stomach ached as she curled into herself on her hotel bed. Her head was filled with a loop of thoughts, she wasn’t good enough, Clint was going to hate her. Plus, she had gotten cut pretty bad on the shoulder and it hurt so much. Too much. Kate felt so small. She hated that she did, if she didn’t she’d be able to figure out a way to fix all this. But she couldn’t. She felt little and alone, and all she wanted was her Dada. But she couldn’t ask for that, not now, not when she’d messed everything up because Clint was definitely mad at her now.

When she heard the bathroom door open Kate pulled the bedsheets up over her head. She didn’t want Dada to see she’d been crying and worry about her. The sheets were stark white and clean, she felt gross and dirty in comparison. “Kate?” Clint’s voice was muffled through the sheets.

“Sleepin,” Kate lied, her lip wobbling as she tried to bite back tears.

“Oh you’re sleeping?” Clint questioned, catching onto her regressed mindspace, “You’re very talkative for a sleepy baby,” he teased lightly.

“M not a baby,” Kate huffed, poking her head out of the sheets so that he could see the very cross look on her face.

“Ah there’s my girl,” Clint cooed, crouching down beside the bed. Kate sniffled, reaching up to rub at her face. “Oh Katie, what happened to your arm?” Kate froze, looking down to realise that the sheets beneath her shoulder had become soaked with blood. Her blood. Kate whimpered, the sight of the blood scaring her enough to crawl out from under the sheets and reach for her Dada. “Oh sweet girl.” Clint sighed, pulling Kate into his arms.

“Owies Daddy,” She whined, burying her face in his shoulder. She really didn’t want Dada to see that she was crying because she was supposed to be a big girl and big girls didn’t cry. Big girls didn’t mess up their missions, and big girls don't need their Daddys to help them. Clint gently stroked Kate’s back with his firm, calloused hand.

“I bet it feels very owie, it’s ok to cry,” Kate sniffled. “Yeah? You’re allowed to cry. That’s right baby girl.” Clint was holding her so gently, she didn’t think she deserved it. Still, he didn’t seem to be mad about the mission at all. She was his baby. That was ok. “How about we get you cleaned up monkey, does that sound ok?” It didn’t sound ok, getting owies cleaned up always hurt. Still, if Dada thought it was a good idea Kate could be brave.

Clint held her hand as they walked to the bathroom, which Kate was glad for as otherwise she didn’t think she’d have been brave enough to move. Part of her wished Dada could carry her but she knew that was especially hard after missions. Clint helped her up onto the bench and handed Kate her pacifier, she hadn’t noticed him grabbing it. She slipped it into her mouth, grateful for the comfort it provided because her arm was really hurting. “Alright little hawk, can we take a look at what we’re working with?” Kate nodded, letting Clint help her to manoeuvre her arm out of the sleeve. He frowned at the sight of the gash across her shoulder. “Well this is no good now is it?” He tutted. “Dadas gonna clean you up now, is that ok?” Kate nodded, though her tummy felt tight and anxious.

Clint cleaned and wrapped Kate’s shoulder with one hand so she could hold the other. It did help a bit to be able to hold Dada but by the time he was finished she was sniffling and her face was damp with tears. “You were so brave for me Katie,” he praised. Kate didn’t feel particularly brave but if daddy thought so it had to be true. “How about some juice and cartoons?” That was exactly what Kate wanted, what she needed, really. The fact that Clint knew this had tears in her eyes all over again. “Oh baby, why are you crying?” Kate sniffled, leaning against Clint so her face was buried against his shoulder.

“Dada,” she mumbled, mainly because it was the only thing she felt big enough to say.

“Oh you’re feeling really small, aren’t you?” His voice was soft, no trace of judgement. Kate nodded, not moving her head from his shoulder. “Alright then.” Clint picked her up off the counter. Kate knew it had to be hard for him but she was too overwhelmed by the comfort to get down. He carried her out of the bathroom and laid her on his bed. Hers was sufficiently stained with blood from her shoulder.

“Do you want to get changed yourself or would you like Daddy’s help?” Clint asked, gently smoothing down Kate’s hair. Kate pointed to Clint with her uninjured arm. She knew she could be very independent when she needed to but right now everything just hurt and she wanted Dada to figure things out.

It was a struggle to manoeuvre Kate out of her suit without moving her injured arm. She felt awful but Clint whispered gentle reassurances the whole time to calm her down. He dressed her in one of his shirts because the baggy fit was much easier to get on. After the ordeal it was just to get the shirt on, Kate was ready for bed. Clint tutted as she tried to climb under the covers. “Come on baby, we’re not ready yet,” He chastised, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. Kate pouted, she really wanted cuddles. “Do you want a pullup?” Kate huffed and nodded, laying back so Clint could get her changed. He did so quickly, helping her into some pyjama shorts afterwards.

Finally, it was time for bed. Clint slipped into the bed next to her, he smelt of toothpaste and antiseptic. It wasn’t the most comforting smell in the world but underneath it all there was the distinct smell of his cologne which lingered on every item of clothing he owned. She buried herself against his side, resting her injured arm over his stomach. Clint reached across the small gap between the two beds, grabbing Kate’s toy hippopotamus, Miles. He gently pressed the toy’s soft nose to her cheek. “Miles says it's bedtime,” Clint explained. Kate went to reach for the toy but winced when she moved her arm too far. “Oh sweet girl,” Clint cooed, gently stroking Kate’s cheek. She whimpered, tears blooming in her eyes. Everything was wrong. Her arm hurt, she couldn’t cuddle her stuffie, big Kate was in trouble, the mission had been bad. She was so bad.

“Hey, hey,” Dada’s voice was firm, he could see the train of thought speeding around Kate’s mind. “Where’d you go monkey?”

Kate whimpered, sniffling sadly, “Been such a bad girl.” Clint’s heart broke at that, knowing his baby girl felt so guilty and uncomfortable. “Big Katie was bad, made Dada mad,”

“No, no, Katie, baby,” Clint cooed, “You were not bad. Not at all,” he assured her. “And Dada isn’t mad at you, not big or little, ok?” Kate sniffled a bit, rubbing her damp cheek against Clint’s shoulder because her only uninjured arm was pinned beneath her body so that she could stay as cuddled up to her Dada as possible. Clint reached over and gently wiped the rest of her tears away. His fingers were rough and calloused against the raw skin under her eyes yet he moved with such precision and delicacy that Kate barely noticed. “Now, I think I promised someone cartoons didn’t I?” Kate nodded happily, an immediate shift in her demeanour now she knew that she definitely was not in trouble.

“Curious George?” She requested excitedly.

“Of course, little Hawk.” Clint turned on the tv and found Kate’s program, Curious George, which was one of Kate’s all time favourites while she was little. Clint believed that Kate was somewhat like his own little curious monkey.

“Thank you Dada,” Kate hummed contentedly as she rested her head on his chest, slowly slipping into a space between awake and asleep.

“Anytime monkey,” Clint cooed gently, stroking Kate’s hair as she fell asleep.

- will & can fall asleep absolutely anywhere. she never has a hard time managing making herself snuggled up and cozy

- when she gets injured from whatever happened before regressing (rough mission/task, etc) she tends to become very fragile and clingy, also regressing younger

- yelena one time broke into her apartment, finding kate playing with her blocks & a pacifier in her mouth. this is how yelena ended up finding out about kates regression (if you ask her, she’d probably tell you it was like seeing a puppy or kitten— she thought it was so cute)

- adapted the nickname katie bug over time, hence her always trying to go outside and play in the mud to find bugs

- while regressed, she gets upset she can’t still do fun tricks with her arrows, leading clint to buy her those fake ones for kids to play with so she doesn’t feel sad

- whenever she regresses younger, she tends to wear pull-ups, those usually having a design on them (i feel like she would wear elmo or bluey ones hehe)

- whenever she plays with lucky, she does her ‘puppy growl’ but in reality, she just sounds silly & cute

- one time kate nibbled on yelena’s finger, leaving yelena with a few little bite marks

- yelena is not the best at being a cg but she’s still trying her hardest

“I’m sorry.” Kates voice is small when she speaks, eyes ducked away from Clint, her hands fiddling in her lap nervously. The words confuse Barton, they’ve been peacefully watching a movie, there’s no reason for Kate to be apologizing.

“Why are you apologizing?” He tightens the arm he’s had draped over Kates shoulder since they sat down, the girl looks more upset after the action.

“C-Cause, I didn’t make the shot on- on the bad guy and-.” Clint shushes her quickly, hating how his littles face has become soaked in tears so quickly, the slice still deep on her lip making him feel worse.

“You don’t have to apologize honey, it was a hard fight and you did amazing. We got the bad guy, that’s what matters.” Kates hands bawl into fists as she wipes at her eyes, shaking her head with choked sniffles.

“I- I don’t deserve it.” Confusion rises in Clint, he carefully takes Kates hands away from her face and cups her cheeks, wiping the tears off her pale skin. Her eyes are blown big and doe like, glossy with tears but she takes in deep breaths in time with Clint, keeping the eye contact as though she’d get in trouble if she broke it.

“Don’t deserve what?” He can see how she fights to not hide away in herself, the horrid training her mother put her through to look “picture ready” at all times for events showing through as she bites her lip and keeps looking at Clint. Barton hates what that women has done to his baby, no matter how many times he’s assured her that she can act freely and there are no rules outside being safe, Kate never seems to forget what’s been plaguing her mind since childhood.

“You, being so nice to me. I didn’t- didn’t earn it, I shouldn’t be allowed to watch a movie and- and lay with you.”

His heart all but shatters hearing how Kates voice wobbles and trips over the words, so sure that she must earn her own comfort. Clint has to steel himself to not scoop the girl up and never let the world get to her, instead he speaks with as much reassurance as he can.

“you don’t need to earn my affection, not now and not ever.” A few stray tears slip down Kates cheek that Clint hastily wipes away, almost crying himself when she throws herself into his chest. Her fingers pull on the loose t-shirt Barton has on, tugging him in closer as her back shakes with small sobs.

“Shhh, Shh, I got you. I’m here now, I’ll always be here.” He speaks into Kates hair and lets his arms weigh heavy around her in a firm grip the way he knows she likes.

“I’ll always take care of you and you never have to earn that, okay?” Kate doesn’t give a verbal response but her quick nod and face nuzzling against Clint is enough for him.

My Personal Ranking of the MazM Games

Lawd im going insane so. Making this ranking. Excluding Yellow Bricks of course. Keep in mind this will not inherently judge the quality of the games moreso my enjoyment so feel free to disagree :) i would love to hear everyones opinions

HYDE AND SEEK SWEEP!!!

Imo theres nothing wrong with HNS (a lie there probably is but shhh). The characters are solid, the plot can fall a little flat at times but MazM said they prioritized making memorable characters more as they can be taken out of the story and used in multiple re-imaginings. They were pretty successful in doing just that. If we didn't have hns we wouldn't have Alan... mai waifu...

Kate is a good protagonist! She's a smartass and an absolute hothead but a load of fun. Pollie is literally a sopping wet meow meow tumblr would love her if HNS was actually popular. I don't think you guys need to know my opinion on Alan (beautiful gorgeous all that is good in the world). Mihir is good South Asian representation:) hes witty and sympathetic. Shoutout to Crack for actually making him look South Asian... so real for that. Bishop is an amazing antagonist like holy shit it may just be my bias but idk she got me tweaking. Of course you got the OG characters like Jekyll and Hyde, although I must admit Jekyll was fucking tweaking lawd that wasn't Jekyll that was his evil brother Jackson.

Art is really good too! Crack was working solo on this project and their art is soooo good, not Maha's painted style but it definitely works for the setting. The watercolor makes sure its not visually boring. The gameplays really fun! If a bit difficult, but I managed to finish the game 3 days after release. It's refreshing after the previous interactive book style games we had before. Honestly I'd reccomend it to any new MazMians and it's very easy to get into :) It's like MazM's tribute to JNH which made them popular in the first place.

2. It's Pechka time. Pechkas all over the place.

Ok ok so. I'd actually say Pechka is a masterpiece. Like literally nothing wrong with it story/characterwise. The story isn't as weak as HNS and it takes itself a lot more seriously. It is MazMs first historical game and it is really educational! Korean rebellion in Russia is a very interesting topic to explore. I didn't even know about it till I played this game.

It was their passion project, it's clear they were very excited to share a story that dealt with their culture so personally. The love shows through the research and dedication they put into it. The characters are sos so so gooood like. Back when I was smaller, I used to scoff at Pyotr for being selfish but. Nowadays hes my poor meow meow malewife. He'd do rounds on tumblr if he was popular. Asya too theyre literally the malewife girlboss dynamic. Pyotr and Asyas relationship is so fucking complicated but lawd they compliment each other perfectly. Daejin, Lizaveta, and Kyuhan have such a sweet story together and just. Aughhhhh.

The art done by Maha and Crack is interesting. The art style uses hatching and it's more simplistic compared to the painted art styles of prior. They primarily focused on making sure the characters actually looked ethnic Korean. The colors assigned to each characters omg... I LOVE WHEN CHARACTERS HAVE A SIGNATURE COLOD THAT REPRESENTS THEM TO A T! The CG cards at the end though... THERES NO HAPPY ENDINGS!!! Some are more bittersweet/neutral. But I think the CG cards do have a wide range of emotions and effectively carry the endings well.

The only problem of this game is the coins which makes it rlly tedious. Pechka is a bit slow burn, so the fact you can only play 2 eps a day is a bit... of a drag. Theres like 10 endings and no log to keep track of what dialouge youve gone through. Like i get you cant replay it without replaying the entire story bc of the endings system unlike jnh or poto or hns but at the very least i wish there was a log to keep track. The footnotes too like, we cant even replay induvidual episodes to find more footnotes which is a bit infurating. It follows the interactive book style of the previous games but the 10 endings give it a new twist.

But yeah on a technical level i might rate it the same level if not higher than hns. Just with hns i found more enjoyment and not many faults :)

3. Thy Creature,,,

Lawd I think you all know how I feel abt Thy Creature. But I'll break it down. Early access Thy Creature had so much potential to be a modern masterpiece it's actually unreal. It was doing something new by being a midquel game rather than prequel/sequel/1 to 1 adaptation. The idea of the bosses representing concepts and characters is genius. They messed up once they realized they didn't have enough time to do all they could n its a shame. I wish it could've gotten delayed just so the writing would be baked properly. Story is a lost cause </3 With characters, the characters are good! However. In the new version, EA characters such as Noah, Justine, and Creature, have been character assasinated. Noah got away just barely because his new iteration is not all bad, Justine's character stayed relatively the same however her feelings towards the Creature have been tampered quite a bit. A lot of the Creature's moral dilemmas are stripped away and it is far more emotionless in the new version which SUCKS. Noah and the Creature had such an interesting dynamic in the early version and it had been removed in the final cut </3.

Character motivations have been completely hidden as the new memory system doesn't give them induvidual reactions to memories which SUCKS. Like. Noah lashed out at the Creature because he realized he had forgotten about his beloved orphanage. YOU DON'T GET THAT IN THE NEW VERSION </3333. They made 701 eviller rather than sympathetic in the final version too </3 The characters that were introduced in the final version are just fine though, perhaps because we didn't lose anything, only gained. Leon is a ray of sunshine, Hanna is a milf, Alex is a badass, Ben is sympathetic etc etc They're like a family :) The boss battles r so cool too... Only gripe is EL is a fascinating character and died too soon to feel attachment to.

The art is fucking gorgeous, Maha primarily worked on the art until Crack finishsd HNS and joined 6 months before release. Unfortunately this is the last MazM game the two worked on as they have left the company due to overwork. Their art is practically one of the lead contributions to why people like MazM so much. Thy Creature is beautiful. I like the earlier concepts better with the sketchy/horror aspects, but the new polished art is just as good. The bullet hell gameplay is a neat mechanic! If only it weren't so hard :(((. In demo traliers there was a concept for having text slide across the screen and scenes playing out during the bullet hell. The bullets would be words and you as a player would have to pay attention to the story thats playing out while dodging, which is a fascinating concept too! But, that sort of thing would be very difficult for certain disabilities and just in general hard to deal with, so I understand why they removed it.

This game was not meant to educate like Pechka, but rather be moving. There are no footnotes like the other game which is fine like it is its own thing. I still think it's a lot of fun. Team MazM put their heart in it just like they did with Pechka, it's worth a try if one likes bullet hells :).

4. Phantom of the Opera let's go!!! 🌊🐴 juan

Lawd you guys know how I feel abt it too. But I'll break it down. Story for the first half is book accurate but the second... The changes are uhm. A decision alright. Not a good one but they're there. I did enjoy it a lot but I will admit the quality is a bit meh. It was my first MazM game so there is my bias. Although shoutout to Daroga for going "shut up white boy" to Raoul when he was being a bitch abt SWA. MazM took an anti-racist stance and they are so real for that. The fact they added the Daroga in the first place is good but, they fucking blame him for Erik's actions when whatever Erik did was his own fault??? But also they made Eriks backstory darker and had the audacity to be like. Actually no one hates you for your face Erik lol. Like??? NO???? HE HAS CLEARLY BEEN SUBJECTED TO IMMENSE PERSECUTION FOR LOOKING LIKE THAT HIS TRAUMA ISN'T HIS FAULT??? But I unironically like the episode where they unionize against the shitty managers. First Pay and A Strike is one of the better episodes. They have two endings, one is canon compliant where Raoulstine run away together, and the other is where they go their seperate ways. I think the addition of that second ending is a cool one and brings to mind new opportunities!

For characters, I think the character added to background characters like the dancers and Remy are pretty fun though! The managers are eh tbh like they shouldn't have been that malicious + the accidental racism with Carlotta and Melek. Melek... dear sweet Melek... she is a good character on her own just not in the story she's placed in. Her existence defeats the purpose of the story. She exists as a prop to make Erik look worse which. </3 Erik and Christine are the most butchered characters here like Raoul took their character development. Erik lost all his compassion, becoming a whiny baby. This defeats the purpose in the og book where he shows mercy to Christine by letting her go because she gave him a single act of compassion. The point of POTO was showing compassion and mercy and he just has none of those???? Christine had been reduced to a naive girl that needed to be taught to be strong via Melek. And i know Melek was portrayed as the one in the right and all but they fact they made a brown woman tell a white woman to toughen up leaves a bad taste in my mouth. She shouldn't have been used as a prop like that. I think it's purely accidental how this came off. But yeah Christine in the OG book, she was strong! She told Raoul to piss off many times, her strength was by showing compassion. She threw her fear aside to give a kiss to her captor!!! Raoul here is the best like hands down. I can write an essay for him later but his character development is the best and he is oddly realistic. I think a problem with the og Raoul (reason ppl can't side with him) is the fact his character doesn't translate well through time. Someone made a wonderful post abt og Raoul here! Give it a read it's good. The way MazM translated Raoul is fitting, as he gets far pushier than OG Raoul to some degree, but his development at the end is quite cathartic. They made Raoul sympathetic in another way which could be relatable for some. The OG Raoul was "attractive" because he was willing to give his honod and status away for a lower class woman. MazM Raoul plays with that idea, by placing more pressure on Raoul and making him unhappy with his situation. He is forced by his family to be perfect for them when he is a child at heart. He loves Christine because she is freeing for him. He is a good person, he just lets obsession cloud his judgement. He is the perfect foil to Erik here and just. Yeah I'll get my essay going soon. Not here. Not here.

Art is fucking gorgeous, Maha and Crack worked on it together but IMO Maha takes more prominence with their art style as the painted looks of the cg cards perfectly match the aesthetic. The backgrounds are BEAUTIFUL. The character designs are lovely. Erik is book accurate minus for the color of his mask. He is monstrous and it's awesome. Christine is blonde, just like the book! The starry look of her hair is unusual to people but it's a game, like whatever looks cool yk? It's beautiful she's beautiful. And we can't forget Jimin Raoul. What a look. They were originally gonna make Christine and Raoul both blonde but probably changed hair colors to make sure they didn't look too alike. I think the pink hair does give Raoul the perfect sweet vibes, even if it's a bit outrageous, it's funny and iconic!!! It also puts a nice duality theme between him and Erik, pink and black my beloved. The dancers are cute, love you Jammes. Remy... lawd i want him. The managers look French.

For gameplay, you have the interactive book format, which again isn't too engaging for me, but it's a good casual game and I think good for newcomers as well because the art is appealing. Coin system is meh but tbh better than Pechka. The footnotes are a lot of fun! Interesting stuff to know like. What's in gunpowder, what the fuck is eugenics, etc etc. But it does hilight the footnote system which helps to provide social context and consume in a new light :)

5. Jekyll jekyll hyde jekyll hyde jeky

I don't hate Jekyll and Hyde, it just doesn't capture my interest like the others do. It's not bad at all and one can argue it's better than POTO but. Idk not for me. The story is pretty book accurate with the characters being canon compliant. It's not a bad thing bc POTO was kind of a shitstorm with the changes made, but I don't feel as engaged. Again it's all up to taste. It just feels like MazM didn't bring anything too new to the table which is alright. This is the game that brought MazM to relevance so ofc, it's a special lil guy :)

Art is done solely by Maha but lawd it is GORGEOUS. DILFS FOR DAYS!!! Cg cards are wonderfully composed, sells the atmosphere of the story. Chibis are so silly, it's like Don't Starve.

The gameplay is the interactive book style and uhhh, idk it's okay. Again nothing to write home about. It's a nice game to play on a rainy day :)

Honorable mention: Heartless

I found heartless on qooapp and while I can't play Yellow Bricks, I'll give my 2 cents on heartless.

I have heard the Wizard of Oz games MazM made are quite book accurate. I haven't read Wizard of Oz yet so I can't give my two cents on that. I'll give my two cents on how I felt.

Heartless/Yellow Bricks were MazMs first games. You can definitely tell the influence it has on their other games. How the story is paced etc etc. It's more child-friendly than their later games, but still has quite a bit of grimness to it. After all, it's about the tin man. Maha's art is so so so diff than it is now, YB/Heartless has a far cuter atmosphere where both the sprites and the chibi sprites are both, well, cute. Nicholas... sweet guy </3. Admittedly he does look like a child when he's an adult but they had a vibe to keep up. The witch is a milf. The gameplay is the interactive book style but it leans more into interactive imo. The minigames where you run away are reused in POTO where you run from the flaming skull. But uh in Heartless, YOU RUN AWAY FROM THE AXE THAT'S HACKING AWAY AT NICK. 😟

soooo i gotta watch shang chi and it was great. firstly there was no quick cut action (yippee!!!!) and the martial arts were great. the soundtrack was also great and the humor was on point. also like 1/3+ of this movie is in chinese, which kind of surprised me but i really liked that. all the acting was great. the cg fight scene at the end was kinda long, but hey. also tony leung as the mandarin was perfect and i think his character was amazing. marvel villains are kinda lame but he did a great job and his character was just (chef’s kiss) excellent. this movie wasn’t what i was entirely expecting, but i still enjoyed it. also props to it for having very emotionally resonant moments. that’s pretty rare in marvel movies.

xu xialing is shang chi’s sister (l love that name a lot ngl it’s really pretty) and ended the movie (in the second credits scene) putting satellite tv and cell towers in a crime syndicate. she’s great and i can’t wait to see more of her. also katie (awkafina) can shoot a bow and arrow well and i feel like she might be a form of kate bishop if kate bishop wasn’t already cast. and wong said that the rings were a beacon, and my thought is that they were a beacon to the deviants from the eternals, or the eternals, or the celestials.

Kate watched guiltily over Clint’s resting body. Clint was supposed to be retired but Kate kept getting him into trouble. She’d been really struggling with her first solo mission, lacking the resources to hack into the website she’d needed, she’d called Clint and he’d ended up sticking around to help her. She should’ve sent him home but selfishly she’d enjoyed having him there to take care of her, but then he’d gotten shot. They were back at the farm now, Kate watching over Clint as he slept peacefully on the high strength pain medication Laura somehow had stocked. Kate felt sick with guilt, it was her fault he’d gotten injured. It was just them in the room now, and given how knocked out Clint was, Kate was practically alone. She couldn’t help herself from feeling small as she watched him lay there. She pulled her knees up to her chest, curling in on herself for comfort. Tears kept silently slipping down her cheeks, everytime she wiped them away they’d return in seconds. The door creaked open and Kate threw her head up quickly, rubbing roughly at her face to hide her tears. Laura leant against the doorframe, a gentle smile on her face. “I just came to see if you needed anything,” she smiled warmly.

Kate shook her head firmly, not trusting her voice to sound grown up if she spoke. Laura’s face fell slightly as she witnessed the uncharacteristically quiet response from Kate who tended to be hyperverbal most of the time. “Katie?” She tested, using the girls preferred nickname for when she’s feeling small. Kate melted slightly at the nickname, her face crumpling up in defeat as tears began to burn in her eyes. “Oh sweet girl,” Laura cooed, crossing the room and engulfing Kate in her arms. Kate hurried her face against Laura’s stomach, sniffling in an attempt to stop her tears.

“M sorry,” she whimpered sadly.

“Why are you sorry?” Laura asked worriedly, worst case scenarios circling in her mind.

“My fault Clint got hurt,” Kate explained through ragged sobs.

“Oh, no, Darling. That’s not your fault.” Laura cooed. She knelt down in front of Kate’s chair so they were eye level. She gently wiped the tears from Kate’s cheeks and placed a soft kiss on each of them. “There’s always a risk going on missions, Clint knows that. He’s just got a little owie but he’ll be better in a few days.” She promised. Kate sniffled, chewing on her fingers for comfort. She understood what Laura was saying but it didn’t make her feel any less icky. “Come on, let’s get you out of these grown up clothes.”

Laura took Kate’s hand and led her into the spare room which at this point essentially just belonged to Kate. She directed her to lay down on the bed and then helped Kate out of her suit and into a pull-up and a pair of oversized purple sweats. “There you go, is that comfier,” Kate nodded happily, far calmer now she was in her little clothes. Laura grabbed Kate’s pacifier and gently replaced her fingers with it. “Why don’t we go put on a movie?” Laura suggested. Kate nodded, grabbing her stuffed puppy dog which looked like Lucky off her bed before following Laura downstairs.

Laura set Kate up the couch with blankets and pillows to keep her comfortable while she watched Scooby-Doo. Laure disappeared into the kitchen for a few moments but returned with a bottle filled with apple juice. Kate rarely ever had a bottle but she felt very small right now and the idea felt comforting. Kate let Laura sit next to her on the couch and gently adjusted her so she was half in her lap, just enough to support Kate’s head whilst she had her bottle. The cool apple juice was soothing on Kate’s throat which had grown rough with tears. “There you go darling, you did so well today,” Laura cooed as Kate slipped off to sleep in her arms.

Steve knew this would backfire on him somehow, allowing you to have Kate and Peter over at once, he knows how hyper those two can be; he was really betting it’d be after he finished lunch that the shenanigans would start but that plan seems to be failing him as he looks around the kitchen.

And of course, Bucky’s been encouraging this all, even joining in as Steve can see him hiding with you and Kate while Peter tucks behind Rogers leg. There’s food thrown about in every corner of the towers once clean kitchen, even a ball of butter stuck to the ceiling when Steve peers up there.

You, Kate and Bucky are giggling like crazy, apparently Bucky’s spy training being forgotten as it tells Steve and Peter right where you are. A perfect time to ball up some of the mashed potatoes Steve was cooking, Peter uses two hands while Steve tries not to think about how horrible the clean up of this will be.

“Peter no! No!” Kate cries dramatically, ducking behind Barnes as soon as she sees Steve and Parker approaching, you’re no better as you follow Kates lead and Bucky becomes a human shield. Still, the three of you get pelted with goopy mashed potatoes, though most of it lands in Bucky’s hair.

“Ha you didn’t get us!” You tease while hauling Kate to her feet, giggling towards your caregiver being the only one to have gotten dirty.

“I have more!” It sets you and Kate running while Peter quickly starts to chase after you, a glob of potatoes held in his hands.

“They’re little menaces.” Bucky grumbles as he stands, wiping some food onto the ground with a splat that makes Steve grimace.

“And they’re going straight to the living room.” It’s a sigh that gets comforted as Bucky puts a hand on Rogers back, knowing what a clean freak he is.

“At least they’re having fun.”

Hyde and Seek my beloved

Word vomiting rq here. But it's genuinely so well written. I can't critique it properly bc of the way the story is formatted between snippets of the board bc I am tiny brain. But from what I took in, it was good.

Emma Bishop as an antagonist especially, she's sympathetic, they tie parallels towards her and Pollie with their cgs with the funerals. Which was something Kate could sympathize with, she already sympathizes for Pollie.

Emma always compliments Kay from the heart. But those compliments are also manipulation. Because while yes they are genuine, they are also used to confuse Kate into doing what she wants. "Emma let's me question her authority, she compliments me, surely she's on my side right?"

My one criticism would be how Jekyll was handled in this game, he seemed really rude for no reason? I guess the explanation would be the duality seperation was taking a toll on him and his egos were meshing.

But this was contrasted against Emma. Jekyll always told Kate to listen to him, to never explore and stay within the safe boundaries of science. Emma actively encouraged Kay to speak out against her, to get lost in science. That is what drew Kate to her. She reminded him of Father Micheal.

But Emma is still, an awful person. She's the antagonist for a reason, Kay has to go against her. The tactics she used on Kate have probably been used on Mihir. "I should've put that bastard in Oxford." If this a compliment to his intellect, she was directly hanging that over him, to push him to dispose of Kate.

He could've had the life he wanted for himself. I suspect his trauma came from the caste system because one of his QNA things related to how he "acted as if he was a brahmin (priests and academics)" when he was a lower caste. He might have been lured over by his father to come because of his love for literature and the arts. But his father is a major asshat who cheated on his wife with Emma iirc or something along those lines + dismissive of him son's passions. Whatever they did to him, fuck them fr.

Emma used the unsafe CHC made by Kay for commercial use. Her own damn maid was driven insane by it. That's how much she doesn't give a damn about the consequences of her actions. You see throughout with the drug addicts on the board. And if that doesn't make you sympathize with them, Alan in the later chapters should.

This is a man desperate for anything to keep his family afloat. And then he says shit like "DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO WANT YOUR FAMILY DEAD?" This drug renders people unable to be themselves or to recognize their loved ones. And it is actively preying on peoples vulnerability in the situation. Be it for work or because they have nothing else. Emma was preying on their vulnerabilities just like she preys on Kate and Mihirs.

I think that could be said for all drug dealers and with Emma it shows her true colors. With all her saccharine but meaningful words, there's also her bitter will to do anything it takes for profits. It may be understandable considering her backstory, but it is not justified.

I don't know how much I can say on this matter, I am desi, but the colonialistic implications of Bishop Trading. Just as Britain had forced opium down China's throats like all else, CHC may be similar. Mihir stated how getting the plant for it is dangerous/dirty work but Bishop doesn't care. The white abuse of power over pocs. I don't mean this in a political way, it's just a footnote i thought of. Feel free to yell at me abt this.
