Was in 2016, in my late 30s and needed to make notes for a fanfic, and it expanded into a blog and I never left. Then a year later came the porn ban and I realized I never was gonna leave anyway.

Under 25? The internet itself was a child. Whoa, remember Hotmail?

those posts always go around that are like “if you’re on Tumblr and you’re over 25 blah blah blah” but honestly if you’re on Tumblr and you’re under 25, I don’t know how the fuck you found this place. like I came here when it was actually kind of cool and then just never left because all my stuff was here. what’s your excuse

And if you ever want to just experiment with different plots and psychological horrors, I have… literally hundreds of ideas I can think of for the bay world that I would always love to play out. One is something similar to 2012’s ‘forest frogs’ plot during the farm season, but it includes a lot more trauma, mental manipulation, and being hunted. And there’s always an apocalypse plot or two we could throw in anywhere, like if they didn’t stop the sickness that took over New York. Or a ‘mutant menace’ type plot like in 2018, or an abduction and imprisonment plot like in the comic, or a hundred other ideas!

Ooooh you're gonna bring back my bloodlust from when I was writing Cold Fire Rising and putting the 2012 boys through absolute torment. *rubbing hands together*

hello! what fandoms do you write fanfic for? what's your favourite fic you've written, and why?

I've written for Ninja Turtles, X-Men, Gargoyles, the Mighty Ducks cartoon, and Supernatural. The only surviving fics are TMNT, with one Supernatural crossover. I did a crossover with X-Men in the early 2000s where Michelangelo became The Phoenix.

My favorite single fanfic is actually Laugh Til It Hurts, because it's the first fic I wrote in the middle of the night fully formed, from such an interesting perspective, and I'm proud of some of the thoughts I had Donatello come up with.

But I am most proud of Cold Fire Rising. It's got a lot of history between 1998 and now, it's the fully realized world I had created with Michelangelo's psychic powers.

TMNT Mikey - Hey Little Brother

Someone sent this to me to probably make me feel sad, but it just reminded me that I killed 2012 Mikey four times in the rewrite of a twenty year old fanfic. With the original, my editor (famed and loved in the fandom) had me read Terry Pratchett's Soul Music to understand how I could link Mikey's spirit, after yelling at me for killing him again.

So, uh, you know that eeeeeeee!! feeling when you learn that your little crossover fic between TMNT and Supernatural inspired someone else to write their own crossover?

I'm so proud. And excited. And intrigued. Also because my psychic Mikey TMNT fics have inspired a handful of others over twenty years.

I love the Two Cakes Theory Of Fanfiction. Sometimes you just have to write the themes you want to see and hope others will catch on.

I had that once or twice. It was in 2016. A very few particular readers actually stuck with me through the years of sequels and spin offs and promises to update that I keep forgetting and the writers block that sets off a cycle of chronic pain flares, insomnia, parasomnias, major depression, hypomanic bursts of hyperfocus and hyperfixations. I'm doing a new therapy to try to solve and remedy how physical pain so often thoroughly damages creative powers.

Anyway. Those comments are super bright spots in a long galaxy.

idk man, i just wanna write a fic that someone reads obsessively at 3am. a fic that someone loses sleep to finish because just one more chapter and tries to give multiple kudos. a fic that people will leave a comment on every chapter. i want to write a fic that people will recommend to others, that they think nails the characterization and relationship dynamic. i want to write someone’s comfort fic, someone’s favorite fic, or someone’s fic they read when they want to re-read something. i want to be that fic writer. i want to write that fic.

A story idea just woke me up. Fans of my "Cold Fire Rising" fics will be amused.

The M'Kari aliens I made up apparently resemble a mix of the Neutrino characters first shown in 1987 and then in IDW, high fantasy elves with pointed ears, and the Changeling race from Deep Space Nine.

@mandi-celeste you might be happy to know that my brain got inspired by your fanfic that was inspired by my 'verse, in which you wrote about Michelangelo's yearning to contact them. Now I want to use your fic as a prologue for a whole multi-part fic that will go into the Mind Games book. Because your little oneshots slice gave me Ideas. I want to write oc x canon for Tmnt 2012 and Rottmnt but I am always worried of writing them out of character. I don’t know who to ship the ocs with yet but I just was wondering if you had any tips on writing the boys. Hope this isn’t a bother. Thank you. :D

Something really neat about Rise is how carefree and easygoing the characters are. Writing for them in fanfic feels easy and casual. They're not quite worried or overly burdened, and the world they live in is far more accommodating and accepting with its established yokai and mutants. So you can write them as teenage non-humans with human psychology having fun while knowing how they stand out and don't easily fit it. I don't think you could write them too out of character because we as well as they are still discovering their characters.

As for 2012, out of character moments are almost canon. The series became darker and more intense as it progressed, but the boys never really got character growth that stayed, because the writers seemed to forget or backslide. By the time Season Five ended (let's ignore the Apocalypse arc for the moment) they were moving away from being teens in several ways, growing up too quickly. And I am among those fans who feel that they could easily be written in many different ways that could be Out Of Character from how the show portrayed them.

For example, in my Cold Fire Rising series and my Mikey The Lifegiver series, Mikey became much more serious and intense while keeping his light heart, and Raph completely stopped giving out those smacks and insults. They stayed in character, but parts of their mentality shifted because their circumstances changed. In CFR I introduced an OC that represented the depths of change.

My advice is to go with your writer brain and your gut. If you feel that Donnie or Leo should act a certain way in a situation, go for it! The best thing about 2012 and Rise is the fluidity of growth, seen and unseen.

It's on AO3, woven throughout the Cold Fire Rising AU, it starts with "Lightning Crashes" although the OC is introduced in "Ouroboros" - which reminds me that I haven't updated "Mind Games" in ages.

But there is also a budding story with the 2016 characters that I started here on Tumblr with a self insert OC. It was just supposed to be some little snippets, slice of life story. But it's starting to get a mind of its own. It's not "Pale Sunlight" but I sense that I might write similar scenes. I think it's under the tag for self insert character or polyamorous mikey.
