Coming Back to My Passion: The Pull of Music When Everything Else Says "No"
Tumblr media
For years, I’ve tried to convince myself that I wanted something different. Something serious, something more aligned with what I thought was expected of me. At one point, I even set my sights on international law. It felt like the right thing to do, the responsible thing to do. But every time I thought I had found my path, something would pull me back. And that something was always music.
The funny thing is, I’ve tried different directions—enrolled in culinary school twice (the first time stepping away because of health issues), completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training, and even became a certified English as a Second Language teacher. All worthy pursuits. But no matter how far I wandered, I always found myself back in music’s orbit.
Each time I got involved in music and things started to pick up, I’d feel alive. There’s something about performing—whether it’s at Folkarama, an open mic, or any small gig—that makes me feel seen. It feels like home. But here’s the twist: every time I leaned into my musical passions, I felt guilty. Ashamed even.
Why? Because it didn’t feel "serious" enough. It wasn’t academically prestigious, and because I came from a family of immigrants that weighed heavily on me. I’m the youngest of three, and I could never seem to figure out what I wanted to do academically. On top of that, I struggled with maintaining good grades—something I later found out in my 30s was due to ADHD. By the time I was in eighth grade, my confidence in my intellect had crumbled. I carried that insecurity with me for years.
I kept telling myself that music wasn’t a “real” option. That I should be doing something more "respectable" in the eyes of society and my family. And so, I wavered. Even when I had momentum with my music, I'd let insecurities creep in—the fear that I wasn’t a strong enough vocalist, or that I didn’t sound like other female artists. I'd let the weight of my family's opinions and my own self-doubt pull me away from something I loved.
I always had one foot in and one foot out. Never fully committing, never fully allowing myself to embrace music as more than just a hobby.
But something shifted this year. Something snapped in me, like a quiet but powerful voice saying, "Enough." I realized I’ve spent too long letting other people’s expectations and my own insecurities dictate my choices.
And that voice? It was telling me to give myself a real shot—to embrace abundance in all areas of my life, including the one place I’ve always felt most alive: music.
I may not be able to control everything, but I can control the actions I take. I can decide to honor my passions and let them guide me instead of letting fear or doubt steer the ship.
Now, the real question is: What are my end goals? I’ve spent so long trying to fit into other people’s expectations that I forgot to figure out what I want. And that’s what I’m focusing on now—defining success on my own terms.
Here’s what I know for sure: People will always have ideas about what’s best for you. But at the end of the day, you’re the one who has to live with the decisions you make. So why not make decisions that honor your heart? You can’t always control whether people believe in you, but you can choose to believe in yourself.
And that’s where I am now—letting go of guilt and stepping fully into what makes me feel alive.

How to Choose the Right 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program
Are you passionate about yoga and considering taking the next step to become a certified yoga teacher? Enrolling in a 200-hour yoga teacher training program is a crucial first step towards achieving your goal. With the abundance of options available, selecting the right training can seem overwhelming. In this guide, we'll walk you through key considerations to help you choose the perfect 200-hour yoga teacher training program that aligns with your goals and values.
1. Accreditation and Certification:
Look for programs that are accredited by recognized yoga organizations like Yoga Alliance. This ensures that the training meets certain quality standards and will provide you with a certification that is widely recognized in the industry.
2. Curriculum and Focus:
Examine the curriculum of the program. A well-rounded training should cover yoga philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, asana (posture) practice, pranayama (breath control), meditation, and more. Ensure that the program's focus aligns with your interests and goals.
3. Experienced and Qualified Instructors:
Research the instructors who will be leading the training. They should have extensive experience, a strong teaching background, and a deep understanding of yoga philosophy and practice.
4. Teaching Style:
Consider the teaching style of the program. Some programs may focus more on a specific yoga style (e.g., Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga), while others offer a blend of styles. Choose a training that resonates with your personal preferences and goals.
5. Class Size and Student-Teacher Ratio:
Smaller class sizes often lead to a more personalized and effective learning experience. A lower student-teacher ratio allows for more individualized attention and mentorship.
6. Location and Duration:
Decide whether you want to complete the training locally or in a different setting. Consider the duration of the program—some are intensive month-long courses, while others are spread out over several months. Choose what fits your schedule and lifestyle.
7. Reviews and Reputation:
Read reviews and testimonials from previous students to get insights into their experiences. A reputable program should have positive feedback from graduates who felt well-prepared for their teaching journey.
8. Cost and Value:
While cost is a factor, prioritize the value you'll receive from the program. A comprehensive, high-quality training might have a higher price tag, but it can be a worthwhile investment in your yoga teaching career.
9. Additional Opportunities:
Some programs offer additional perks like mentorship, teaching opportunities, or workshops. These can enhance your learning and post-training career prospects.
10. Your Intuition:
Ultimately, trust your intuition. Listen to your gut feeling about the program. If it aligns with your values, aspirations, and feels like the right fit, it probably is.
Choosing the right 200-hour yoga teacher training program requires thoughtful research and consideration. By evaluating the curriculum, instructors, teaching style, and other factors, you'll be well-equipped to embark on a fulfilling journey toward becoming a certified yoga teacher. Remember, this training is not just about teaching yoga; it's about deepening your practice and sharing the transformative power of yoga with others

The Life Of a 200 Hour Certified Yoga Instructor
Becoming a 200-Hour Certified Yoga Instructor: A Journey to Mind, Body, and Soul Transformation
In a world constantly buzzing with activity, finding moments of tranquility and self-reflection can be a challenge. As stress levels rise and the demands of daily life intensify, many individuals seek solace in practices that cultivate peace and balance. Yoga, with its ancient roots and holistic approach to wellness, has emerged as a beacon of serenity amidst the chaos of modern living. For those who wish to delve deeper into the practice and share its profound benefits with others, embarking on the path to becoming a 200-hour certified yoga instructor can be a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
The journey to becoming a certified yoga instructor begins with a desire to deepen one's practice and share its wisdom with others. Whether fueled by a personal quest for growth or a passion for helping others find inner harmony, the decision to enroll in a 200-hour yoga teacher training program marks the first step towards a fulfilling and rewarding path. These programs, often offered by certified yoga schools and experienced instructors, provide comprehensive education in yoga philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, and practical skills necessary to guide students through safe and transformative yoga classes.
The foundation of a 200-hour yoga teacher training program lies in the exploration of yoga's rich philosophical tradition. From the ancient texts of the Yoga Sutras to the teachings of modern yoga masters, students delve into the principles that underpin the practice of yoga, including the eight limbs of yoga, ethical guidelines (yamas and niyamas), and the concept of self-realization (samadhi). Through lectures, discussions, and reflective practices, aspiring instructors gain a deeper understanding of the spiritual and philosophical aspects of yoga, laying the groundwork for a holistic approach to teaching and practice.
In addition to philosophy, anatomy forms a vital component of yoga teacher training, providing students with essential knowledge of the human body and its mechanics. Understanding anatomy not only ensures the safety of students during asana practice but also enables instructors to tailor classes to suit individual needs and abilities. From studying the skeletal and muscular systems to exploring the breath-body connection, aspiring instructors gain insights into the intricate interplay between physical movement and inner awareness, fostering a deeper appreciation for the transformative power of yoga on both the body and mind.
Central to the journey of becoming a certified yoga instructor is the development of teaching skills and methodology. Through hands-on practice and observation, students learn how to sequence yoga classes effectively, create a supportive and inclusive environment, offer modifications and adjustments, and cultivate a teaching presence that inspires and empowers students. From mastering the art of verbal cueing to honing interpersonal communication skills, aspiring instructors embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, gaining confidence and resilience as they step into the role of a teacher and guide.
Integral to the 200-hour yoga teacher training experience is the immersion in the practice itself. Through daily asana practice, meditation, pranayama (breathwork), and self-reflection, students deepen their connection to their bodies, minds, and spirits, cultivating a sense of inner peace and presence that infuses their teaching with authenticity and compassion. As they navigate the challenges and breakthroughs of their own practice, aspiring instructors learn valuable lessons in resilience, self-compassion, and the transformative power of yoga to heal and uplift.
Beyond the physical and philosophical dimensions of yoga, the journey to becoming a certified instructor is also a deeply personal one, marked by moments of self-discovery, growth, and transformation. As students confront their fears, insecurities, and limitations on and off the mat, they discover reservoirs of strength, courage, and wisdom within themselves, empowering them to step into their authentic selves and share their unique gifts with the world. Whether it's overcoming self-doubt, embracing vulnerability, or finding their voice as a teacher, the journey of becoming a certified yoga instructor is as much about inner exploration as it is about outward mastery.
As the culmination of their training approaches, aspiring instructors embark on a final practicum, where they have the opportunity to put their newfound skills and knowledge into practice. Guided by experienced mentors and supported by their fellow trainees, students lead yoga classes, receive feedback, and refine their teaching style, preparing them for the momentous occasion of receiving their certification. With hearts full of gratitude and minds buzzing with possibility, graduates of 200-hour yoga teacher training programs emerge as catalysts for transformation, ready to share the gift of yoga with their communities and beyond.
Becoming a 200-hour certified yoga instructor is more than just obtaining a credential; it's a profound journey of self-discovery, growth, and empowerment. From delving into the depths of yoga philosophy to mastering the art of teaching and practice, aspiring instructors undergo a transformative process that shapes not only their approach to yoga but also their outlook on life. As they step into their role as guides and guardians of the ancient wisdom of yoga, they become beacons of light, illuminating the path for others to embark on their own journey of self-discovery and transformation.

The Benefits of Completing a 200-Hour Weekdays Yoga Teacher Training Course (YTTC)
Yoga has become a popular practice worldwide for its holistic approach to wellness. For many, the natural next step after discovering the transformative power of yoga is to deepen their understanding through a yoga teacher training course (YTTC). A 200-hour YTTC is the standard foundational course for aspiring yoga teachers and devoted practitioners alike. Choosing to complete the program on weekdays offers several unique benefits. Let's explore the advantages of undertaking a 200-hour weekdays YTTC and how it can enrich your yoga journey.
Immersive Learning Experience
By opting for a weekdays-only schedule, participants can immerse themselves in the learning process without the interruptions of weekend commitments. This focused approach allows for a deeper connection with the material and a more comprehensive understanding of the principles of yoga.
Consistent Practice and Routine
A weekdays-only YTTC encourages regular practice and study, helping to establish a consistent routine. This consistent engagement can lead to faster progress and a more profound grasp of yoga's philosophy, history, and techniques.
Smaller Class Sizes
Weekday YTTCs often have smaller class sizes compared to weekend or intensive programs. This means more personalized attention from instructors, fostering a supportive learning environment and facilitating stronger bonds between students.
Flexible Work-Life Balance
Completing a YTTC on weekdays can help participants maintain a healthy work-life balance. Those with family or work commitments over the weekend may find it easier to manage their schedules and still participate in the course.
Access to Quiet Spaces
Weekdays typically see less activity in studios or training spaces, providing a quieter, more serene environment for learning. This calm atmosphere can enhance focus and allow for a deeper meditation and practice experience.
Time for Reflection and Integration
Weekday classes allow for evenings and weekends to be reserved for rest and reflection. This time can be used to integrate new concepts, practice asanas (yoga postures), or engage in self-care and meditation.
Networking Opportunities
Completing a YTTC on weekdays can offer unique networking opportunities with like-minded individuals who may have similar weekday schedules. These connections can lead to lasting friendships and collaborations in the yoga community.
Building a Strong Foundation
The 200-hour YTTC serves as a solid foundation for yoga teachers. It covers essential topics such as asana, pranayama (breathing techniques), anatomy, philosophy, and teaching methodologies. Completing the course on weekdays allows for a thorough exploration of these subjects.
Early Start in Teaching
By completing the course during weekdays, participants may have more opportunities to begin teaching yoga classes sooner. This early start can boost confidence and provide valuable experience for those looking to make teaching a career.
Conclusion
A 200-hour weekdays yoga teacher training course (YTTC) offers numerous benefits for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of yoga. Whether aiming to teach or simply to enhance one's practice, the consistent schedule, personalized attention, and serene learning environment provide a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.
