Introduction To Supporting Sustainable Agriculture For Witches and Pagans
[ID: An image of yellow grain stocks, soon to be harvested. The several stocks reach towards a blurred open sky, focusing the camera on he grains themselves. The leaves of the grains are green and the cereals are exposed].
PAGANISM AND WITCHCRAFT ARE MOVEMENTS WITHIN A SELF-DESTRUCTIVE CAPITALIST SOCIETY. As the world becomes more aware of the importance of sustainability, so does the duty of humanity to uphold the idea of the steward, stemming from various indigenous worldviews, in the modern era. I make this small introduction as a viticulturist working towards organic and environmentally friendly grape production. I also do work on a food farm, as a second job—a regenerative farm, so I suppose that is my qualifications. Sustainable—or rather regenerative agriculture—grows in recognition. And as paganism and witchcraft continue to blossom, learning and supporting sustainability is naturally a path for us to take. I will say that this is influenced by I living in the USA, however, there are thousands of groups across the world for sustainable agriculture, of which tend to be easy to research.
So let us unite in caring for the world together, and here is an introduction to supporting sustainable/regenerative agriculture.
A QUICK BRIEF ON SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
Sustainable agriculture, in truth, is a movement to practise agriculture as it has been done for thousands of years—this time, with more innovation from science and microbiology especially. The legal definition in the USA of sustainable agriculture is:
The term ”sustainable agriculture” (U.S. Code Title 7, Section 3103) means an integrated system of plant and animal production practices having a site-specific application that will over the long-term:
A more common man’s definition would be farming in a way that provides society’s food and textile needs without overuse of natural resources, artificial supplements and pest controls, without compromising the future generation’s needs and ability to produce resources. The agriculture industry has one of the largest and most detrimental impacts on the environment, and sustainable agriculture is the alternative movement to it.
Sustainable agriculture also has the perk of being physically better for you—the nutrient quality of crops in the USA has dropped by 47%, and the majority of our food goes to waste. Imagine if it was composted and reused? Or even better—we buy only what we need. We as pagans and witches can help change this.
BUYING ORGANIC (IT REALLY WORKS)
The first step is buying organic. While cliche, it does work: organic operations have certain rules to abide by, which excludes environmentally dangerous chemicals—many of which, such as DDT, which causes ecological genocide and death to people. Organic operations have to use natural ways of fertilising, such as compost, which to many of us—such as myself—revere the cycle of life, rot, and death. Organic standards do vary depending on the country, but the key idea is farming without artificial fertilisers, using organic seeds, supplementing with animal manure, fertility managed through management practices, etc.
However, organic does have its flaws. Certified organic costs many, of which many small farmers cannot afford. The nutrient quality of organic food, while tending to be better, is still poor compared to regeneratively grown crops. Furthermore, the process to become certified organic is often gruelling—you can practise completely organically, but if you are not certified, it is not organic. Which, while a quality control insurance, is both a bonus and a hurdle.
JOINING A CSA
Moving from organic is joining a CSA (“Community supported agriculture”). The USDA defines far better than I could:
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), one type of direct marketing, consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production.
By purchasing a farm share, you receive food from the farm for the agreed upon production year. I personally enjoy CSAs for the relational aspect—choosing a CSA is about having a relationship, not only with the farmer(s), but also the land you receive food from. I volunteer for my CSA and sometimes I get extra cash from it—partaking in the act of caring for the land. Joining a CSA also means taking your precious capital away from the larger food industry and directly supporting growers—and CSAs typically practise sustainable and/or regenerative agriculture.
CSAs are also found all over the world and many can deliver their products to food deserts and other areas with limited agricultural access. I volunteer from time to time for a food bank that does exactly that with the produce I helped grow on the vegetable farm I work for.
FARM MARKETS AND STALLS
Another way of personally connecting to sustainable agriculture is entering the realm of the farm stall. The farmer’s market is one of my personal favourite experiences—people buzzing about searching for ingredients, smiles as farmers sell crops and products such as honey or baked goods, etc. The personal connection stretches into the earth, and into the past it buries—as I purchase my apples from the stall, I cannot help but see a thousand lives unfold. People have been doing this for thousands of years and here I stand, doing it all over again.
Farmers’ markets are dependent on your local area, yet in most you can still develop personal community connections. Paganism often stresses community as an ideal and a state of life. And witchcraft often stresses a connection to the soil. What better place, then, is purchasing the products from the locals who commune with the land?
VOLUNTEERING
If you are able to, I absolutely recommend volunteering. I have worked with aquaponic systems, food banks, farms, cider-making companies, soil conservation groups, etc. There is so much opportunity—and perhaps employment—in these fields. The knowledge I have gained has been wonderful. As one example, I learned that fertilisers reduce carbon sequestration as plants absorb carbon to help with nutrient intake. If they have all their nutrients ready, they do not need to work to obtain carbon to help absorb it. This does not even get into the symbiotic relationship fungi have with roots, or the world of hyphae. Volunteering provides community and connection. Actions and words change the world, and the world grows ever better with help—including how much or how little you may provide. It also makes a wonderful devotional activity.
RESOURCING FOOD AND COOKING
Buying from farmers is not always easy, however. Produce often has to be processed, requiring labour and work with some crops such as carrots. Other times, it is a hard effort to cook and many of us—such as myself—often have very limited energy. There are solutions to this, thankfully:
Many farmers can and will process foods. Some even do canning, which can be good to stock up on food and lessen the energy inputs.
Value-added products: farms also try to avoid waste, and these products often become dried snacks if fruit, frozen, etc.
Asking farmers if they would be open to accommodating this. Chances are, they would! The farmer I purchase my CSA share from certainly does.
Going to farmers markets instead of buying a CSA, aligning with your energy levels.
And if any of your purchased goods are going unused, you can always freeze them.
DEMETER, CERES, VEIA, ETC: THE FORGOTTEN AGRICULTURE GODS
Agricultural gods are often neglected. Even gods presiding over agriculture often do not have those aspects venerated—Dionysos is a god of viticulture and Apollon a god of cattle. While I myself love Dionysos as a party and wine god, the core of him remains firmly in the vineyards and fields, branching into the expanses of the wild. I find him far more in the curling vines as I prune them than in the simple delights of the wine I ferment. Even more obscure gods, such as Veia, the Etruscan goddess of agriculture, are seldom known.
Persephone receives the worst of this: I enjoy her too as a dread queen, and people do acknowledge her as Kore, but she is far more popular as the queen of the underworld instead of the dear daughter of Demeter. I do understand this, though—I did not feel the might of Demeter and Persephone until I began to move soil with my own hands. A complete difference to the ancient world, where the Eleusinian mysteries appealed to thousands. Times change, and while some things should be left to the past, our link to these gods have been severed. After all, how many of us reading know where our food comes from? I did not until I began to purchase from the land I grew to know personally. The grocery store has become a land of tearing us from the land, instead of the food hub it should be.
Yet, while paganism forgets agriculture gods, they have not forgotten us. The new world of farming is more conductive and welcoming than ever. I find that while older, bigoted people exist, the majority of new farmers tend to be LGBT+. My own boss is trans and aro, and I myself am transgender and gay. The other young farmers I know are some flavour of LGBT+, or mixed/poc. There’s a growing movement for Black farmers, elaborated in a lovely text called We Are Each Other’s Harvest.
Indigenous farming is also growing and I absolutely recommend buying from indigenous farmers. At this point, I consider Demeter to be a patron of LGBT+ people in this regard—she gives an escape to farmers such as myself. Bigotry is far from my mind under her tender care, as divine Helios shines above and Okeanos’ daughters bring fresh water to the crops. Paganism is also more commonly accepted—I find that farmers find out that I am pagan and tell me to do rituals for their crops instead of reacting poorly. Or they’re pagan themselves; a farmer I know turned out to be Wiccan and uses the wheel of the year to keep track of production.
Incorporating these divinities—or concepts surrounding them—into our crafts and altars is the spiritual step towards better agriculture. Holy Demeter continues to guide me, even before I knew it.
WANT CHANGE? DO IT YOURSELF!
If you want change in the world, you have to act. And if you wish for better agriculture, there is always the chance to do it yourself. Sustainable agriculture is often far more accessible than people think: like witchcraft and divination, it is a practice. Homesteading is often appealing to many of us, including myself, and there are plenty of resources to begin. There are even grants to help one improve their home to be more sustainable, i.e. solar panels. Gardening is another, smaller option. Many of us find that plants we grow and nourish are far more potentant in craft, and more receptive to magical workings.
Caring for plants is fundamental to our natures and there are a thousand ways to delve into it. I personally have joined conservation groups, my local soil conservation group, work with the NRCs in the USA, and more. The path to fully reconnecting to nature and agriculture is personal—united in a common cause to fight for this beautiful world. To immerse yourself in sustainable agriculture, I honestly recommend researching and finding your own path. Mine lies in soil and rot, grapevines and fruit trees. Others do vegetables and cereal grains, or perhaps join unions and legislators. Everyone has a share in the beauty of life, our lives stemming from the land’s gentle sprouts.
Questions and or help may be given through my ask box on tumblr—if there is a way I can help, let me know. My knowledge is invaluable I believe, as I continue to learn and grow in the grey-clothed arms of Demeter, Dionysos, and Kore.

Sept. 16, 2024. Moon in Pisces! + Eclipse Szn
my personal theories on aspects made as the moon transits pisces, from september 16, 2024 @ 5:39 AM EST to september 18, 2024 5:23 AM EST.
moon in pisces
the moon enters pisces on september 16, 2024 @ 5:39 AM EST.
𓆝 after transiting two signs ruled by its detriment (saturn), the moon welcomes familiar energy in the sign of pisces. pisces shares a few qualities with moon. obviously water, but also the fact that pisces is mutable and the moon is constantly changing faces -- they both share a theme of adaption.
so expect to be made to adapt quickly. this is a time of intimate exposure. unlike the other water signs, pisces is unprotected by an exoskeleton. the moon’s nature is somewhat of a guardian, thus it is shielded. but pisces is simply flesh. pisces is its body. and pisces is one of the only signs without some form of external defense. it’s also the only water sign whose existence is completely lived in the water.
to the fish, there’s no perceived boundary, such as the line between sand and sea. to the fish, they blend into each other. there’s just the infinite sky and the infinite ocean, reflections of each other. to the fish, swimming is the closest thing to flying. u are unbound by gravity, untethered to anything but the physical manifestation of ur soul (ur body).
so this is the moon. when the moon is in pisces, it’s more comfortable with the currents of uncertainty and the unknown. after all, our species knows more of literal space and ether than the ocean, and i think that’s why the moon has so much of a mystifying effect. the ocean is so close to us but so removed from understanding. pisces only expands upon this quality: we discover those removed parts of ourselves.
moon transits work as a mirror (particularly when the moon is full or near full illumination). it reflects back to u what u might've buried in the subconscious, unseen part of ur soul. so this full moon energy in pisces will have buried lies, infidelities, uncertainties resurfaced, like the remains of an old shipwreck washing up on shore. pisces represents the closure of a chapter before a new cycle proceeds, but u can't really do that without addressing what u have neglected. u are encouraged to deep dive into urself.
what will u unearth? look to the houses and natal aspects. feel free to comment ur houses for my own personal take and i'll read it if i have the energy to. tips are a certified way to get ur placement read.
moon transits
pisces moon trine cancer mars
exact on september 16, 2024 @ 5:03 PM EST
so much passion... in ways that work for u, and in ways that work against u. on one end, a harmonious aspect between moon and mars causes deep-rooted emotions.
but what soil are u rooting those emotions in? there's quite a few things u could be reaping and sowing with this transit. for one, tumblr loves to talk about how much moon-mars denotes (pardon my french) unabashed horniness. this is because the two bodies of instinct and hormones are making contact. so i will advise that unless u are trying to conceive, try to abstain from creampies. mars isn't traditionally an indication of fertility, but it being in cancer (with the dispositor being the moon in a jovial sign) can show abundance relating to the sexual organs. and what do we have sexual organs for evolutionarily? sexual reproduction.
on another end, it can show intense moodiness. the mutable pisces moon has a universe full of things to feel, and mars is placed in the sign associated with unpredictable, shapeshifting emotions. u can find urself crying then seemingly over it two minutes later.
or u can become defensive and personalize everything, taking things as a personal attack. thus, feeling like u need to guard ur emotions. but that conflicts with the nature of the pisces moon. while the pisces moon is introspective, it's not guarded necessarily. even if mars wants to protect its intimate world (due to being in cancer), the pisces moon (knowing no bounds) may express them nonetheless, either directly or through petty, evasive side-stepping expected of a pisces moon-cancer mars trine.
i have a theory that the moon in pisces trine mars in cancer can represent cheating. jupiter indicates infidelity imo, as jupiter notoriously betrayed his wife ceres (the goddess of marital unions). mars represents our impulses and whether or not we can control them. and with the dispositor of mars being moon in pisces, it could show someone may be lying? but i'm unsure about that.
of course, this depends on the conditions of this transit, don't read this and think ur going to be cheated on lmao. correlation doesn't mean causation. but u do need to abstain from "distractions" in my opinion. meaning, sneaky links, irresponsible drug use, spending habits, etc.
u should keep a clear mind during this transit. the mind (moon) is already cloudy and informed by an afflicted malefic, which is giving poor impulse control.
pisces moon opp. virgo mercury
exact on september 17, 2024 @ 2:55 AM EST
there's introspection as the planet of the emotional mind (moon in pisces) tug-o-wars with the planet of the logical mind (mercury in virgo). for the pisces moon, the mind is infinite as it reflects the limitless soul. but for the virgo mercury, it desires something factual. something undeniable.
but the rational virgo mercury may view these things as mutually exclusive: there's no room for both science and spirit, for limits and the limitless, for head and heart. for that reason, ur psyche (comprised of both the moon and mercury) feels torn apart. and for this reason, u may choose to isolate in the mind or u face struggles with bringing ur vast emotional/sense experience into digestible yet limited words. this causes a conflict with ur reality, as ur sense experience feels one thing but ur logical experience says another. it can lead to overall anxiety, irrationality, practical issues, and communication issues.
for example, dishing shit out (overcritical domicile virgo mercury) but not being able to take it (sensitive pisces moon), misreading social situations, deciphering the truth from a lie, or feeling mentally stuck.
the chariot card in major arcana seems significant, i just channeled it. the black sphinx in this case represents the unknown, unverified abyss u must trust within urself, whereas the white sphinx represents clarity and logic. they are opposing, but connected through each hand of the driver.
the pisces-virgo axis with the moon and mercury shows that an action is preceded by a thought, and a thought is preceded by a feeling, and the context of feeling is informed through the moon being in pisces. boundlessness. unrestriction. and so on. in order to materialize something, u need to give reality permission to allow it to exist. faith without works is about as dead as works without faith.
personal advice: i wouldn't initiate or engage with a serious discussion at this time, as there can likely be communication issues and misunderstandings. and with the pisces moon also being trine a cancer mars, it can result in needless passive aggression, lack of accountability, frustration, and emotional dysregulation.
instead, i'd allow for the lunar eclipse/full moon to illuminate and bring to light what needs to be called to action. if i were u, i'd journal a lot. that way, it translates something intangible (feelings) into something tangible (words on paper) and u have something to reflect on. which is great, because an overarching theme for this pisces moon transit is reflection.
pisces moon conj. pisces saturn Rx
exact on september 17, 2024 @ 6:10 AM EST
saturn influence will return to the moon, so my moon in capricorn post might be a good refresher, as the moon is not entirely out of saturn's reach. this time, i believe ur being called to apply what u have learned.
as i addressed earlier, pisces is the sign representative of the end of a cycle. just as saturn is the planet representing those cycles. so many astrological themes indicate transitions and endings being had all over — saturn in pisces, pluto in capricorn at the anaretic degree, the equinox on the 22nd signaling the seasonal death of the northern hemisphere, and the lunar eclipse/full moon in pisces all relate to change.
saturn is heavy karmic and i'm sure we all knew that, but this saturn pisces retrograde has been particularly karmic in how we really gotta address wounds of how we prolong the inevitable by resisting change. the pisces full moon is naturally going to illuminate that. we're retracing our steps right now and moving backwards, but the past can be a useful tool in understanding what's to come.
saturn represents our fears, and the pisces full moon energy is illuminating that as well. so... the resistance to change is correlated to the fear of the unknown. but u have been here before, it just wasn't stationed Rx. saturn was in pisces at the 15th degree on april 16, 2024. what do u remember from then? what energy was potent in the air? because the events that may have taken place around that time but haven't reached their resolve will be made to as the moon illuminates this and what we have lied to ourselves about since then.
pisces saturn conjunct pisces moon is deeply nostalgic, and u will find urself reminiscing heavily before the moon transits aries and awakens a new emotional/familiar cycle. it reminds me of that one hannah montana scene where she's saying goodbye to her old house before she welcomes the next phase of her life. even though the moon is technically a gibbous right now, the energy of a full moon is felt for about 3-5 days. and full moons are times for energetic purges. it's a time of release. as the moon wanes, so is the old.
there will be a couple more pisces moon conjunct pisces saturn Rx, it's something like reviewing or revisiting. they will be on these dates:
october 14, 2024 // november 10, 2024
and then saturn stations direct after shortly those transits. this would be a time to put things into application, as saturn is no longer passive/reflective/moving backwards, but is now active/moving forward with what it had learned during the retrograde. so there's a decent amount of saturn-moon in pisces conjunctions that will be occurring until saturn leaves pisces and enters the new cycle. so i really recommend journalling for this whole pisces saturn transit. pisces saturn can obfuscate perception. but when ur journaling, ur channeling it into something u can revisit.
pisces moon opp. virgo sun, FULL MOON and LUNAR ECLIPSE
exact september 17, 2024 @ 10:34 PM EST
the energy of an eclipse is a confusing one. the north and south nodes are the planets responsible for eclipsing. since this is a partial eclipse, the moon/sun won't be making exact conjunction to the nodes until after the eclipse passes. but don't think this means the eclipse won't still be a powerful force to be reckoned with, because it will be.
eclipses cause confusion and disorientation because the luminaries' lights are briefly put out. the luminaries represent clarity within us, so when the dragon consumes them, it kinda causes chaos. such as a spiritual, energetic "blackout/power outage." its effects are almost apocalyptic in how we revert to our survivalism during eclipse season.
the north node will represent gains. this is due to the north node being the head of the dragon and thus materialistic, obsessive, and insatiably hungry. but the south node, which is the tail of the dragon, and that produces an opposite effect of surrender and release. the moon is fully illuminated (thus 'enlightened') but since it's consumed by the dragon, it may feel like ur enlightenment is being had at a low moment. really a time for looking into ur shadows, fears, etc. a pisces full moon lunar eclipse feels comparable to being in “the belly of the beast.”
this pisces lunar eclipse might be the catalyst to set u free. free of doubt, free of lies, free of secrecy. yes, the lunar eclipse is like blowing a candle out in a dark room, but u know what that reminds me of? that "the cave of two lovers" scene (ATLA) where aang and katara blow out the light in order to let themselves be guided out of the darkness (underworld). when they surrendered their need to sense, they opened up to emotional (and spiritual) enlightenment. and to be honest, i recommend watching that episode during this transit. it's so pisces-virgo axis.
the lunar eclipse is going to open the door u must pass through to overcome the shadows within u (not to reject them, but to understand them). the portal is much like a dark cave with the end invisible to the naked eye. it's something like a blind test of faith, going in with nothing but urself and ur soul.
the nodes induce confusion, and in my opinion, those who will be the most confused during this transit will be those who resist change the most. those attached to circumstance. this transit says change and closure. it says free urself. proceeding the moon-saturn conjunction in pisces, i feel like this eclipse gives “fetch the boltcutters” by fiona apple (happy belated virgo queen). she says she got the title of the album while watching tv, and says that it means: “Fetch your tool of liberation. Set yourself free.”
so u go do that. and good luck.
if ur sleeping during the lunar eclipse, dreams will likely function as a portal to the unseen. i would say try to gain lucidity in ur dreams, and if u can, derive insight from the messages u get
abstain from sex
if my theory rings true about cheating, it’ll come to light.

My name is Dr Jill Simons. I'm a board-certified pediatrician and the executive director for the American College of Pediatricians. Today I'm here alongside my colleagues representing the Coalition of co-signers of the Doctors Protecting Children Declaration. Our coalition consists of physicians together with nurses, behavioral health clinicians, other health professionals, scientists, researchers and public health and policy professionals. And we have serious concerns about the physical and mental health effects of the current protocols promoted for the care of children and adolescents in the United States who express discomfort with their biological sex.
This declaration was authored by the American College of Pediatricians, but really it was developed from the expertise of hundreds of doctors researchers and other healthcare workers and leaders wh, for years have been sounding the alarm on the harmful protocols that continue to be promoted by the medical organizations in the United States. Despite recent revelations from the leaked WPATH Files and the recent release of the final report from the Cass Review, these medical organizations have not changed course.
So, we are calling on these medical organizations of the United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to follow the science and their European colleagues and immediately stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex.
In our declaration, we affirm that sex is a dimorphic, innate trait defined in relation to an organism's biological role in reproduction: male and female this genetic signature is present in every nucleated somatic cell in the body and is not altered by drugs or surgical interventions. Consideration of these innate differences is critical to the practice of good medicine and to the development of sound policy for children and adults alike. Medical decision-making should be based upon an individual's biological sex. It should respect biological reality and the dignity of the person by compassionately addressing the whole person.
We are here defying the claims made by these medical organizations in the US that those of us who are concerned are a minority and that their protocols are consensus. They are not consensus, and we are speaking in a loud unified voice: enough.

Doctors Protecting Children Declaration
As physicians, together with nurses, psychotherapists and behavioral health clinicians, other health professionals, scientists, researchers, and public health and policy professionals, we have serious concerns about the physical and mental health effects of the current protocols promoted for the care of children and adolescents in the United States who express discomfort with their biological sex.
We affirm:
1. Sex is a dimorphic, innate trait defined in relation to an organism’s biological role in reproduction. In humans, primary sex determination occurs at fertilization and is directed by a complement of sex determining genes on the X and Y chromosomes. This genetic signature is present in every nucleated somatic cell in the body and is not altered by drugs or surgical interventions
2. Consideration of these innate differences is critical to the practice of good medicine and to the development of sound public policy for children and adults alike.
3. Gender ideology, the view that sex (male and female) is inadequate and that humans need to be further categorized based on an individual’s thoughts and feelings described as “gender identity” or “gender expression”, does not accommodate the reality of these innate sex differences. This leads to the inaccurate view that children can be born in the wrong body. Gender ideology seeks to affirm thoughts, feelings and beliefs, with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries that harm healthy bodies, rather than affirm biological reality.
4. Medical decision making should not be based upon an individual’s thoughts and feelings, as in “gender identity” or “gender expression”, but rather should be based upon an individual’s biological sex. Medical decision making should respect biological reality and the dignity of the person by compassionately addressing the whole person.
We recognize:
1. Most children and adolescents whose thoughts and feelings do not align with their biological sex will resolve those mental incongruencies after experiencing the normal developmental process of puberty.
Desistance is the norm without affirmation as documented by Zucker in his article “The Myth of Peristence”. (1) Zucker, KJ. The myth of persistence: Response to “A critical commentary on follow-up studies and ‘desistance’ theories about transgender and gender nonconforming children” by Temple Newhook et al. International Journal of Transgenderism. 2018: 19(2), 231–245. Published online May 29, 2018.http://doi.org/10.1080/15532739.2018.1468293 [1]
In the “largest sample to date of boys clinic-referred for gender dysphoria,” there was a desistance rate of 87.8%. (2) Singh D, Bradley SJ and Zucker KJ. A Follow-Up Study of Boys With Gender Identity Disorder. Front Psychiatry. 2021;12:632784. doi: 10.3389/fpsyt.2021.632784
The pro-affirmation Endocrine Society Guidelines (2017) admit: “…the GD/gender incongruence of a minority of prepubertal children appears to persist in adolescence.” (3) Hembree, W., Cohen-Kettenis PT, Gooren L, et al. Endocrine treatment of gender-dysphoric/gender-incongruent persons: An Endocrine Society clinical practice guideline J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2017; 102:1–35.
A longitudinal study from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands followed 2772 adolescents (recruited from a psychiatric clinic) from age 11 years through 22 – 26 years. “In early adolescence 11% of participants reported gender non- contentedness. The prevalence decreased with age and was 4% at the last follow-up (around age 26).” Even in this psychiatric patient study group for which interventions were not addressed, but “gender affirmation” is most likely, gender non-contentedness (essentially gender noncongruence) decreased substantially from early adolescence to young adulthood.(4) Rawee P, Rosmalen JGM, Kalverdiijk L and Burke SM. Development of gender non-contentedness during adolescence and early adulthood. Archives of Sexual Behavior. 2024; https://doi.org/10.1007/s10508-024-02817-5
2. Responsible informed consent is not possible in light of extremely limited long-term follow-up studies of interventions, and the immature, often impulsive, nature of the adolescent brain. The adolescent brain’s prefrontal cortex is immature and is limited in its ability to strategize, problem solve and make emotionally laden decisions that have life-long consequences.[2]
3. Sex-trait modification or “Gender affirming” clinics in the United States base their treatments upon the “Standards of Care” developed by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). However, the foundation of WPATH guidelines is demonstrably flawed and pediatric patients can be harmed when subjected to those protocols.
The two Dutch studies that form the foundation for treatment guidelines as documented in the WPATH “Standards of Care” guidelines version 7 (SOC 7) had serious flaws.[3]
These studies did show that the appearance of secondary sex characteristics in adolescents and young adults could be changed by hormonal and surgical interventions, but they failed to demonstrate meaningful long-term improvement in psychological well-being.
Scientific concerns with these studies also include a lack of a control group, small sample sizes, significant numbers of patients lost to follow up, and the elimination of patients who experienced significant mental illness from entering the studies.
It is concerning that the Dutch studies did not address complications and adverse outcome in the adolescent cohort that underwent transition. These complications included new onset diabetes, obesity and one death.[4]
4. There is now sufficient research to further demonstrate the failure of the WPATH, American Academy of Pediatrics and Endocrine Society protocols.
The Cass Review was released on April 10, 2024, as an “independent review of gender identity services for children and young people”. The following points are from Cass’s final report:[5]
Commissioned by the National Health Service (NHS) England, and chaired by Dr. Hilary Cass, the 388-page report utilized systematic reviews, qualitative and quantitative research, as well as focus groups, roundtables and interviews with international clinicians and policy makers.
As part of the evaluation, they reviewed the research on social transition, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones.
Social transition
“The systematic review showed no clear evidence that social transition in childhood has any positive or negative mental health outcomes, and relatively weak evidence for any effect in adolescence.
However, those who had socially transitioned at an earlier age and/or prior to being seen in clinic were more likely to proceed to a medical pathway.”
Puberty blockers
“The systematic review undertaken by the University of York found multiple studies demonstrating that puberty blockers exert their intended effect in suppressing puberty, and also that bone density is compromised during puberty suppression. However, no changes in gender dysphoria or body satisfaction were demonstrated [emphasis added].”
“There was insufficient/inconsistent evidence about the effects of puberty suppression on psychological or psychosocial wellbeing, cognitive development, cardio-metabolic risk or fertility.”
“Moreover, given that the vast majority of young people started on puberty blockers proceed from puberty blockers to masculinizing/ feminizing hormones, there is no evidence that puberty blockers buy time to think, and some concern that they may change the trajectory of psychosexual and gender identity development.”
Cross-sex hormones
“The University of York carried out a systematic review of outcomes of masculinising/feminising hormones.” They concluded, “There is a lack of high-quality research assessing the outcomes of hormone interventions in adolescents with gender dysphoria/incongruence, and few studies that undertake long-term follow-up. No conclusions can be drawn about the effect on gender dysphoria, body satisfaction, psychosocial health, cognitive development, or fertility.”
“Uncertainty remains about the outcomes for height/growth, cardio-metabolic and bone health.”
The Cass Review further stated, “Assessing whether a hormone pathway is indicated is challenging. A formal diagnosis of gender dysphoria is frequently cited as a prerequisite for accessing hormone treatment. However, it is not reliably predictive of whether that young person will have longstanding gender incongruence in the future, or whether medical intervention will be the best option for them.”
A 2024 German systematic review on the evidence for use of puberty blockers (PB) and cross-sex hormones (CSH) in minors with gender dysphoria (GD) also found “The available evidence on the use of PB and CSH in minors with GD is very limited and based on only a few studies with small numbers, and these studies have problematic methodology and quality. There also is a lack of adequate and meaningful long-term studies. Current evidence doesn’t suggest that GD symptoms and mental health significantly improve when PB or CSH are used in minors with GD.”[6]
5. There are serious long-term risks associated with the use of social transition, puberty blockers, masculinizing or feminizing hormones, and surgeries, not the least of which is potential sterility.
Youth who are socially affirmed are more likely to progress to using puberty blockers and cross-sex (masculinizing or feminizing) hormones.
“Social transition is associated with the persistence of gender dysphoria as a child progresses into adolescence.”[7]
“Gender social transition of prepubertal children will increase dramatically the rate of gender dysphoria persistence when compared to follow-up studies of children with gender dysphoria who did not receive this type of psychosocial intervention and, oddly enough, might be characterized as iatrogenic.”[8]
Puberty blockers permanently disrupt physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
Side effects listed in the Lupron package insert include emotional lability, worsening psychological illness, low bone density, impaired memory, and the rare side-effect of pseudotumor cerebri (brain swelling).[9]
A coalition of physicians and medical organizations from around the world submitted a petition to the Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requesting urgent action be taken to eliminate the off-label use of GnRH (growth hormone) agonists in children.[10]
Testosterone use in females and estrogen use in males are associated with dangerous health risks across the lifespan including, but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, blood clots, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.[xi],[12]
Genital surgeries affect future fertility and reproduction.
6. A report from Environmental Progress released on March 4, 2024, entitled “The WPATH Files” revealed “widespread medical malpractice on children and vulnerable adults at global transgender healthcare authority.”[13]
“The WPATH Files reveal that the organization does not meet the standards of evidence-based medicine, and members frequently discuss improvising treatments as they go along.”
“Members are fully aware that children and adolescents cannot comprehend the lifelong consequences of ‘gender-affirming care’ and, in some cases due to poor health literacy, neither can their parents.”
In addition, developmentally challenged and mentally ill individuals were being encouraged to “transition”, and treatments were often improvised.
7. Evidence-based medical research now demonstrates there is little to no benefit from any or all suggested “gender affirming” interventions for adolescents experiencing Gender Dysphoria. Social “affirmation”, puberty blockers, masculinizing or feminizing hormones, and surgeries, individually or in combination, do not appear to improve long-term mental health of the adolescents, including suicide risk.[14]
8. Psychotherapy for underlying mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and autism, as well as prior emotional trauma or abuse should be the first line of treatment for these vulnerable children experiencing discomfort with their biological sex.
9. England, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland have all recognized the scientific research demonstrating that the social, hormonal and surgical interventions are not only unhelpful but are harmful. So, these European countries have paused protocols and are instead focusing on evaluating and treating the underlying and preceding mental health concerns.
10. Other medical organizations are adhering to the evidence-based medicine documented in the Cass Review Final Report.
The constitution of the National Health Service in England will be updated to state, “We are defining sex as biological sex.”[15]
The European Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry issued a document titled “ESCAP statement on the care for children and adolescents with gender dysphoria: an urgent need for safeguarding clinical, scientific, and ethical standards.”
In this paper, they stated, “The standards of evidence-based medicine must ensure the best and safest possible care for each individual in this highly vulnerable group of children and adolescents. As such, ESCAP calls for healthcare providers not to promote experimental and unnecessarily invasive treatments with unproven psycho-social effects and, therefore, to adhere to the “primum-nil-nocere” (first, do no harm) principle”.[16]
11. Health care professionals around the world are also acknowledging the urgent need to protect children from harmful “gender-affirming” interventions.
In a letter to the British newspaper, The Guardian, sixteen psychologists, some of whom worked at the Tavistock Center for Gender Identity Development Service, acknowledged the role clinical psychologists played in placing children on an “irreversible medical pathway that in most cases was inappropriate.”[17]
In the United States, a group of psychiatrists, physicians and other health care workers wrote an open Letter to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), calling on the APA to explain why it glaringly ignored many scientific developments in gender-related care and to consider its responsibility to promote and protect patients’ safety, mental and physical health.[18]
12. Despite all the above evidence that gender affirming treatments are not only unhelpful, but are harmful, and despite the knowledge that the adolescent brain is immature, professional medical organizations in the United States continue to promote these interventions. Further, they state that legislation to protect children from harmful interventions is dangerous since it interferes with necessary medical care for children and adolescents.
The American Psychological Association states it is the largest association of psychologists worldwide. The organization released a policy statement in February 2024 stating, “The APA opposes state bans on gender-affirming care, which are contrary to the principles of evidence-based healthcare, human rights, and social justice.”[19]
The Endocrine Society responded to the Cass Review by reaffirming their stance. “We stand firm in our support of gender-affirming care…. NHS England’s recent report, the Cass Review, does not contain any new research that would contradict the recommendations made in our Clinical Practice Guideline on gender-affirming care.”[20]
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Board of Directors in August 2023, voted to reaffirm their 2018 policy statement on gender-affirming care. They did decide to authorize a systematic review but only because they were concerned “about restrictions to access to health care with bans on gender-affirming care in more than 20 states.”[21]
Of note, Dr. Hilary Cass called out the AAP for “holding on to a position that is now demonstrated to be out of date by multiple systematic reviews.”[22]
In Conclusion
Therefore, given the recent research and the revelations of the harmful approach advocated by WPATH and its followers in the United States, we, the undersigned, call upon the medical professional organizations of the United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to follow the science and their European professional colleagues and immediately stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex. Instead, these organizations should recommend comprehensive evaluations and therapies aimed at identifying and addressing underlying psychological co-morbidities and neurodiversity that often predispose to and accompany gender dysphoria. We also encourage the physicians who are members of these professional organizations to contact their leadership and urge them to adhere to the evidence-based research now available.

Karlstad-based Löfbergs is the first coffee roaster to use logistics provider Scanlog’s fossil-free sea transport programme, which reduces sea freight emissions by fuelling ships with liquid biogas.
Löfbergs is one of the world’s largest purchasers of organic and Fairtrade-certified coffee and currently freights more than 36,000 tonnes of green coffee by sea annually. The coffee roaster said the move will reduce its Scope 3 CO2 emissions – covering emissions which are not directly produced by the company or its assets, but by those involved in its value chain – by 1,800 metric tons.
“It is a milestone on our sustainability journey. This means that we reduce the emissions from sea transport by 100% and that we can offer our customers even more sustainable coffee. Biogas costs more than fossil fuels, but we do not think that we can afford to not use it. We have to reduce the emissions in every part of our value chain,” said Kajsa-Lisa Ljudén, Sustainability Manager, Löfbergs.
The International Transport Forum estimates that trade-related freight transport currently accounts for approximately 30% of all transport-related CO2 emissions.
“Today, the vast majority of coffee is grown in so-called monocultures, which is not good for the soil, and requires large amounts of artificial fertilizers and pesticides,” Thøgersen said in an announcement from Löfbergs.
“GrowGrounds work with coffee farmers all over the world to convert their production to agroforestry to ensure better conditions for both the soil, the coffee plants and nature in general.”
“With Löfbergs as co-founder, we are going all-in on creating a circular transition and restoring natural ecosystems at small-scale coffee farmers worldwide,” Thøgersen said last week on LinkedIn. “Our business model is to bring coffee growing back to nature, establish agroforestry systems, promote circularity and organic cultivation methods. This we will do, among other things, by helping the coffee farms with financing, so that the necessary conversion will not be at their cost.”

Sustainable Yarns for Eco-Friendly Fashion
Discover sustainable yarns for eco-friendly fashion, including organic, recycled, and renewable options. Learn how to make environmentally responsible choices.
Introduction:
In recent years, the fashion industry has seen a significant shift towards sustainability. As consumers become more conscious of environmental issues, the demand for eco-friendly fashion has grown. One crucial aspect of sustainable fashion is the use of sustainable yarns. These yarns are produced with minimal environmental impact and are often made from renewable or recycled materials. In this guide, we will explore the various types of sustainable yarns and their benefits, helping you make informed choices for eco-friendly fashion.
1. Organic Cotton Yarns:
Organic cotton is one of the most popular sustainable yarns in the fashion industry. Grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, organic cotton farming promotes soil health and biodiversity. Organic cotton yarns are soft, breathable, and biodegradable, making them ideal for a wide range of clothing items, from everyday wear to luxury garments. Additionally, organic cotton is often certified by organizations such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), ensuring high environmental and social standards.
2. Recycled Yarns:
Recycled yarns are made from post-consumer or post-industrial waste, such as discarded textiles, plastic bottles, and other materials. By repurposing waste materials, recycled yarns reduce the need for virgin resources and help minimize landfill waste. Common recycled yarns include recycled polyester, recycled nylon, and recycled cotton. These yarns offer comparable quality and durability to their non-recycled counterparts while significantly reducing environmental impact.
3. Hemp Yarns:
Hemp is a highly sustainable and versatile plant that has been used in textile production for centuries. Hemp yarns are strong, durable, and naturally resistant to pests, which means they require minimal chemical inputs during cultivation. Hemp also grows quickly and uses less water compared to cotton, making it an eco-friendly choice for sustainable fashion. Hemp yarns can be used for a variety of garments, including casual wear, activewear, and accessories.
4. Bamboo Yarns:
Bamboo is another sustainable material gaining popularity in the fashion industry. Bamboo plants grow rapidly without the need for pesticides or fertilizers, making them an environmentally friendly option. Bamboo yarns are soft, lightweight, and have natural moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties. However, it's important to choose bamboo yarns that are produced using environmentally responsible processes, as some methods of bamboo fiber extraction can be chemically intensive.
5. Tencel (Lyocell) Yarns:
Tencel, also known as Lyocell, is a type of yarn made from sustainably sourced wood pulp, typically from eucalyptus, beech, or spruce trees. The production process for Tencel is closed-loop, meaning that almost all solvents and water used in the process are recycled and reused. Tencel yarns are known for their softness, breathability, and biodegradability. They are an excellent choice for eco-friendly fashion, suitable for everything from casual wear to high-end garments.
6. Wool and Alpaca Yarns:
Natural animal fibers such as wool and alpaca are inherently sustainable when sourced responsibly. These fibers are renewable, biodegradable, and have excellent thermal properties. Sustainable wool and alpaca yarns come from farms that prioritize animal welfare, land stewardship, and ethical practices. Certifications such as the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) ensure that the wool is produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
7. Linen Yarns:
Linen, made from the flax plant, is one of the oldest and most sustainable fibers used in textiles. Flax requires minimal water and pesticides to grow and can thrive in poor soil conditions. Linen yarns are strong, durable, and breathable, making them perfect for warm-weather clothing. Linen production has a relatively low environmental impact, and the resulting fabric is fully biodegradable.
8. Sustainable Dyeing and Finishing:
In addition to choosing sustainable yarns, it's important to consider the dyeing and finishing processes. Eco-friendly dyeing methods, such as using natural dyes or low-impact synthetic dyes, reduce the release of harmful chemicals into the environment. Furthermore, water-saving techniques and energy-efficient practices in the finishing process contribute to the overall sustainability of the final product.
Conclusion:
Sustainable yarns are a cornerstone of eco-friendly fashion, offering a range of options for creating garments that are both stylish and environmentally responsible. By choosing yarns made from organic, recycled, or renewable materials, and ensuring responsible production processes, designers and manufacturers can significantly reduce their environmental footprint. As the demand for sustainable fashion continues to grow, embracing sustainable yarns will play a crucial role in shaping a greener, more ethical fashion industry.

Preserving Our Blue Planet: Practical Ways to Save the Ocean
Shaina Tranquilino
November 18, 2023
The ocean, covering more than 70% of our planet's surface, is a vital ecosystem that provides us with numerous benefits. It regulates climate, absorbs carbon dioxide, and supports biodiversity. However, due to human activities, our oceans are facing unprecedented threats such as pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction. To secure the future health of our blue planet, it is crucial for each one of us to take action. In this blog post, we will explore practical ways through which we can collectively save the ocean.
1. Reduce Plastic Consumption: Plastics have become a major menace to marine life. By reducing plastic consumption in our everyday lives, we can significantly limit its impact on the ocean. Start by replacing single-use plastics with reusable alternatives. Opt for eco-friendly packaging when purchasing products and support businesses that prioritize sustainable practices.
2. Proper Waste Disposal: Improper waste disposal leads to large amounts of garbage ending up in rivers or oceans through runoff. Always dispose of trash responsibly and recycle whenever possible. Participate in local beach cleanups or organize your own community cleanup events to prevent litter from reaching the ocean.
3. Support Sustainable Fishing Practices: Overfishing has depleted fish populations worldwide and disrupted ecosystems. As responsible consumers, choose sustainably sourced seafood certified by organizations such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). Educate yourself about sustainable fishing practices and advocate for their implementation within your community.
4. Minimize Chemical Usage: Toxic chemicals from household cleaning products, fertilizers, and pesticides often find their way into rivers and eventually reach the ocean through runoff. Opt for environmentally friendly alternatives or make your own natural cleaners using ingredients like vinegar and baking soda. Embrace organic gardening methods that rely less on chemical inputs.
5. Conserve Water: Conserving water not only helps preserve this precious resource but also prevents excessive runoff of pollutants into waterways. Reduce your water consumption by fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and installing water-efficient appliances. This way, you can indirectly contribute to the health of our oceans.
6. Support Marine Conservation Organizations: Numerous organizations tirelessly work towards protecting and restoring our oceans. Consider supporting their efforts through donations, volunteering, or raising awareness about their initiatives on social media platforms. Collaborate with like-minded individuals in your community to organize fundraisers or educational events centred around marine conservation.
7. Educate Yourself and Others: Increasing awareness is key to saving the ocean. Stay informed about current environmental issues affecting the ocean's health and share this knowledge with others. Engage in conversations, use social media platforms as a tool for spreading awareness, and support educational programs focused on marine conservation in local schools and communities.
Saving the ocean requires collective action from individuals, communities, governments, and businesses alike. By implementing these practical steps in our daily lives, we can significantly reduce our impact on the fragile ecosystems that lie beneath the waves. Let us remember that even small changes can make a big difference when it comes to preserving our blue planet for generations to come. Together, we have the power to protect and restore our magnificent oceans – an invaluable treasure worth fighting for.

SOIL SCIENCE AND PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEYRE DOING
Genuinely listening to a soil scientist or master horticulturalist ramble about literally any topic always results in a massive density of information. So many plant-tubers and tik tokers can give you tips, they may even have plants that thrive, but they can't exactly tell you -why-
"I use this product and it works! go buy it!"
Well why does it work? Is it tested and certified? do you know if this is a Fertilizer? a soil conditioner? does it work with organic systems?? Are there papers backing it up at all???
"I dunno! use my affiliate link!!"
and everyone has such wildly different home environments and climates and windows sizes that just saying "do x" without having a deep understanding of the conditions present means!! A-lot!! and houseplants don't have to be complicated but a lot of people fail at having a green thumb because nothing is explained properly. Some people do extremely well and don't realize it's mostly because they have large unobstructed windows whereas the person struggling is dealing with a north facing window covered by buildings and tree's and thinking their friend just grows em better and gets discouraged.
Listen to someone who studies this or does it professionally and they can give you broadly helpful tips backed by science with measurable improvements to back it up, rather than the SEA of AI written or regurgitated information. If you ask how to take care of a plant to google, you have to DIG to find relevant, helpful, GOOD info that isn't just spewed from the mouths of people shooting in the dark and having success.
"place plant in indirect light, fast draining soil, let it dry out before watering" - houseplant tips dreamed up by the utterly deranged, incurious, and actively unhelpful to anyone and harmful for beginners!! THEY HAVE PLAYED US FOR ABSOLUTE FOOLS!
My 'indirect light' Monstera can sit in sunlight all damn day AND THEY GROW IN FULL SUNLIGHT IN THE WILD!! Why then, does everyone think they can thrive in a semi dim corner of your house?? Why are you telling me my Hoya Kerii, a semi succulent that needs tons of full sun to thrive will do just fine getting like, 1 or two hours of it. It will not grow! It may even lose leaves and suffer!! (That hoya has thrown tantrums for months and I thought I was to blame!!)
I didn't know what VPD was! I didn't know the real difference between organic and synthetic fertilizers or what nutrient cycling was! I didn't know the benefits of algae growth in your soil and the indicators of a healthy micro-biome! WHATS HUMIC ACID, WOW LOOK AT THE SCIENCE BACKING UP HOW FUCKING HELPFUL IT IS! So much info shoved aside in favor of 'quick plant hacks' that barely contribute anything to your actual development of understanding how to make your Rare tropicals and indoor garden thrive!!
GO WATCH THE CHANNEL "GARDENING IN CANADA" AND BE AMAZED AT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LISTEN TO SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THEYRE DOING!! Some of their vids only have like, 3k views and they were more helpful in understanding and diagnosing issues I had than people posting full ass houseplant guides

Like a humble daisy, the tiny chamomile flower doesn’t claim much spotlight, but its impact on herbal medicine and folklore is undeniable and enduring. For many people, a simple chamomile tea may be their first introduction to herbalism, used in many households to promote everything from relaxation to healthy digestion.* And with good reason: chamomile is rich in azulene, a beneficial compound in the essential oil that has worked its herbal magic throughout history for a variety of uses. Despite its seemingly humble demeanor, it is one of the most trusted plants in herbalism today. We feature it in several of our teas but showcase it center stage in our Chamomile tea and our Chamomile with Lavender tea.
There are several species of chamomile, but at Traditional Medicinals (TM), we use German chamomile (Matricaria recutita). A member of the Asteraceae (or daisy) family, German chamomile is composed of white daisy-like petals and yellow composite disc florets. Found in populated areas and temperate climates, it can stand up to 24 inches high in full sun. We source some of our favorite chamomile from the sunny fields of Poland and from fertile, Fair Trade-Certified™ farms of Egypt’s Nile River Valley. Here, harvesters gather the plant with large metal combs, designed to pick the flowers alone, thereby isolating the most medicinal source of the plant from the leaves and stems. TM is one of the rare tea companies to only use the chamomile flower itself, which gives our tea an especially fragrant, honeyed apple character and helps us reach higher levels of azulene to achieve the pharmacopoeial-grade herbs we seek.
In fact, chamomile’s appley aromatics first gave the herb its common name, derived from the original Greek chamaimēlon, or “earth-apple.” Ancient cultures were the first to sing the herb’s praises. The ancient Greek physician Dioscorides and naturalist Pliny the Elder prescribed it, Egyptian women mixed it with crushed rose petals to apply to their skin, and before modern preservation techniques were available, cooks soaked rancid meat in chamomile to mask unpleasant odors. In the Middle Ages, when hygiene was particularly difficult, people scattered chamomile on floors to help repel vermin and pests and to serve as a natural deodorizer. For hundreds of years, farmers have planted chamomile as a cover crop to attract beneficial insects and repel the pesky ones. As resilient to being stepped on inside as it is in meadows, chamomile has rightfully earned a reputation as a hardy and humble flower.
These folkloric uses undoubtedly stem from the plant’s soothing and calming properties. Throughout history, herbalists and physicians used chamomile for a variety of reasons. The ancient Greeks used it to help address the female reproductive system, the Egyptians used it to mummify bodies, and the Anglo-Saxons considered it one of their nine sacred herbs. By the Middle Ages, monks narrowed in on chamomile’s ability to soothe digestion and calm the nerves,* and herbalists recommend it for those same reasons today. Given chamomile’s popular application for bedtime and relaxation, don’t be surprised if you see beauty experts championing the use of chamomile tea bag compresses to soothe puffy eyes, as well. With such a wide variety of applications throughout such a wide span of history, it isn’t surprising that chamomile has earned its reputation as a household herb. But sometimes the humble is often taken for granted. The next time you seek a sip of chamomile tea or find it growing in a field, remember to give this tiny yet mighty plant the thanks it deserves.

the Urban Dictionary definition for "The Noticing":
The Noticing, also spelled Noseticing, is a movement. It is the awakening to the truth. It is the ultimate red pill. The bottom of the rabbit hole. The unplugging from the matrix. The realization, the revelation, the noticing that every single time, that it is those who cannot be named that are responsible or behind every bad company, movement and organization. The Noticing is when you have special pattern recognition aka "noticing" abilities. When you can spot the common denominator in all world events and agendas. The Noticing has been largely spurred on by the Streisand Effect. A fairly common antisemitic dogwhistle used amongst alt-right circles on the internet is being a "noticer," "noticing patterns," "pattern noticer," etc. I've seen this from a couple Tumblr blogs I follow reblogging memes and such that use this term but don't provide any context about what sorts of "things" they may be noticing.
Here's the meme that I saw a blog I'm following reblog last night.
Seems pretty harmless, right? It's a meme with a cute cat.
In alt-right circles, what they are referring to "noticing" is the conspiracy theory that Jews control the world/"noticing" evidence of an imagined globalist (read: Jewish) world order/etc. If you see a meme that uses terms like "noticing patterns" that doesn't elaborate what those supposed patterns are-- just leaves you to fill in the blank yourself-- take a look at the types of things OP might be posting. The alt-right has an idea that it's forbidden to talk about who might be behind the "conspiracies" they talk about (again, the target is frequently Jewish people) so lack of context is often a red flag.
I sent the blog who reblogged this an ask informing them that the meme was a dogwhistle. If you see someone reblog something like this, check what they've been posting. If this seems like an isolated incident, the person probably reblogged it not knowing what the term actually meant. That's why dogwhistles are so effective-- to the average person they look harmless if you don't know what to watch out for!
Let's take a look at how alt-righters use this term.
Here's an alt-right definition of it from Urban Dictionary.
Oh boy, this one gets a bigotry bingo for all the dogwhistles used here. If I miss any, feel free to comment. Here are the ones I found:
-Noseticing: Noticing plus nose, based on the stereotype for Jewish people to have large noses.
-"those who cannot be named"/skirting around saying Jew: again the idea that it's forbidden to talk about who they think is behind their conspiracy theories.
-"world events and agendas": idea that Jewish people have a Globalist agenda etc etc
-Degeneracy: Nazi term to describe the behaviors/people they find undesirable.
-Early life: refers to the section in a person's Wikipedia page. If a person was brought up Jewish, it'll usually say so there.
-Oy vey: a Jewish exclamation of exasperation that Nazis have unfortunately co-opted when talking about Jewish people.
Here's probably the most obviously antisemitic meme I found.
The title and first bullet point include the "noticer" term. This meme also talks about a "group" who controls wealth. Who might the poster be referring to here?
Here's a Twitter account with many similar alt-right terms. Explicitly identifies as a Nazi and ethno-nationalist, etc etc.
A couple other pages. I clicked on them to see if I could find any more examples but the first seemed pretty blank and the second... Well, I don't have a twitter so I couldn't view.
Let's unpack these a little. The first one has "13 outta 52," a statistic used among white supremacists to depict Black people (especially African-Americans) as "savage": 13 referring to the percentage of America that is Black and 52 referring to the alleged percentage of murders in the U.S. that are committed by Black people. "109 countries" refers to the idea that Jewish people have been expelled from 109 countries during history. (Which isn't entirely true. Some "countries" in this count are actually cities, regions, etc.) Some white supremacists may use the number 110 instead to suggest that it should happen again.
The second one has a blurb alleging a global sterilization effort and concerns of fertility. This is likely in connection to pro-natalism for white people. If Nazis want a so-called "Aryan nation," they're going to want white people to populate it, and so they encourage white people to have babies for their cause. Nazi Germany employed this tactic as well, even awarding "Aryan" German women who had four or more children for their contributions to the Nazi cause.
The reason why I'm emphasizing that context matters is that some neurodivergent people have seen this and co-opted it into neurodivergent circles. As a person who is Jewish and autistic, this is pretty alarming to me. I'll show a couple examples from Tumblr:
And
I've left out the URLs of the OPs because I want to give the benefit of the doubt-- they both explicitly refer to being a "pattern noticer" in terms of neurodivergence. And it's easy to see why introducing this term to ND folks would be an easy way to get a dogwhistle passed off as harmless! Since autistic people often have analytical minds, we often make connections that others might not be able to see. But unfortunately, using terms like this only makes it much easier for antisemites to fly under the radar.
Stay safe and let's keep Tumblr free of this shit.

Is Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade?
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is a popular brand known for its wide range of coffee products. Many consumers want to know if their coffee choices support ethical practices. One key question is: Is Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade? In this article, we will explore what Fair Trade means, how Green Mountain Coffee fits into this framework, and the impact of such practices on coffee farmers and the environment.
Understanding Fair Trade
Fair Trade is a movement that aims to help producers in developing countries achieve fair prices and better trading conditions. This initiative focuses on several key principles:
Fair Prices: Producers receive a minimum price that covers their costs of production, even when market prices drop.
Direct Trade: Fair Trade emphasizes direct trade relationships between producers and buyers, reducing the number of intermediaries.
Sustainable Practices: Fair Trade promotes environmentally friendly farming practices, helping to protect ecosystems.
Community Development: A portion of sales goes back to the community, supporting education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Fair Trade certification ensures that products meet these standards. This certification process is rigorous, requiring transparency and accountability.
Green Mountain Coffee’s Commitment to Fair Trade
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) has been a strong advocate for sustainable practices. In 2001, the company became one of the first major coffee brands to commit to Fair Trade. This decision was a significant step towards supporting farmers and communities in coffee-growing regions.
Fair Trade Certification
Green Mountain Coffee offers a variety of Fair Trade Certified products. This certification guarantees that the coffee meets specific Fair Trade standards. The company sources its beans from farmers who are part of certified cooperatives, ensuring that these farmers receive fair prices for their crops.
GMCR’s Fair Trade coffee comes from regions such as Central and South America, Africa, and Asia. The company provides support to these farmers by offering training and resources to improve their farming practices. This approach helps increase crop yields and quality, benefiting both the farmers and consumers.
Selection of Fair Trade Coffees
Green Mountain Coffee offers a range of Fair Trade options. Some popular choices include:
Green Mountain Coffee Breakfast Blend: A smooth, light roast perfect for the morning.
Green Mountain Coffee Dark Magic: A rich, dark roast with deep flavors.
Green Mountain Coffee French Roast: A bold coffee with a smoky finish.
These options are not only delicious but also help support ethical farming practices.
Benefits of Fair Trade for Farmers
Economic Stability
One of the most significant benefits of Fair Trade is the economic stability it provides to farmers. By guaranteeing a minimum price, Fair Trade protects farmers from the volatile market. This stability allows farmers to invest in their businesses and improve their quality of life.
Empowerment of Farmers
Fair Trade empowers farmers by providing them with a voice in the market. By organizing into cooperatives, farmers can collectively negotiate better prices and conditions. This organization fosters a sense of community and solidarity among farmers.
Access to Education and Healthcare
Fair Trade initiatives often include funding for education and healthcare in farming communities. This funding can significantly impact the quality of life for farmers and their families. Better education leads to improved farming techniques, and access to healthcare ensures that families can stay healthy and productive.
Sustainable Practices
Fair Trade promotes environmentally friendly farming practices. These practices include:
Organic Farming: Many Fair Trade certified farms are also certified organic. This means they avoid harmful pesticides and fertilizers, protecting both the environment and the farmers’ health.
Biodiversity: Fair Trade encourages farmers to maintain biodiversity in their crops. This practice can lead to healthier ecosystems and reduce the risk of crop failure.
Water Conservation: Fair Trade farms often implement water-saving practices, ensuring that this vital resource is used wisely.
The Impact of Fair Trade on the Environment
Reducing Carbon Footprint
Fair Trade practices often lead to a reduced carbon footprint. By supporting local farmers and encouraging sustainable practices, Fair Trade can help minimize the environmental impact of coffee production.
Local Sourcing: Fair Trade emphasizes local sourcing, which reduces transportation emissions. When consumers choose Fair Trade coffee, they are indirectly supporting local economies and lowering their carbon footprint.
Agroforestry: Many Fair Trade farmers practice agroforestry, which involves planting coffee alongside trees and other crops. This method helps sequester carbon and protects biodiversity.
Protecting Ecosystems
Fair Trade practices help protect vital ecosystems. Traditional coffee farming can lead to deforestation and habitat loss. However, Fair Trade promotes sustainable farming methods that help maintain forest cover and protect wildlife habitats.
Encouraging Climate Resilience
Climate change poses a significant threat to coffee production. Fair Trade practices can help farmers adapt to these changes by promoting sustainable methods. For example, farmers who use shade-grown coffee techniques can protect their crops from extreme heat while supporting local wildlife.
The Consumer’s Role in Fair Trade
Making Informed Choices
As consumers, we have the power to support Fair Trade practices through our purchasing decisions. By choosing Green Mountain Coffee and other Fair Trade products, we contribute to a more equitable coffee industry. Here are some tips for making informed choices:
Look for Certifications: Always check for Fair Trade certification on coffee products. This label ensures that the coffee meets specific ethical standards.
Research Brands: Learn about the companies you buy from. Many brands share their sourcing practices and commitment to sustainability on their websites.
Support Local and Small Producers: Whenever possible, choose coffee from local or small-scale producers. This choice can help strengthen communities and support ethical practices.
The Impact of Your Purchase
Every purchase of Fair Trade coffee has a ripple effect. When you buy Fair Trade coffee, you are not just buying a product; you are investing in the livelihoods of farmers, their families, and their communities. Your choice supports education, healthcare, and sustainable practices, making a positive impact on the world.
Challenges Facing Fair Trade
While Fair Trade has made significant strides, it also faces challenges:
Market Saturation: As more brands adopt Fair Trade practices, standing out in the market can become challenging. Consumers need to stay informed about which brands are genuinely committed to Fair Trade.
Certification Costs: The process of obtaining Fair Trade certification can be costly for small farmers. Some may choose not to pursue certification, even if they practice Fair Trade principles.
Consumer Awareness: Not all consumers are aware of Fair Trade and its benefits. Education is crucial for increasing demand for Fair Trade products.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Green Mountain Coffee is Fair Trade certified, offering consumers a delicious way to enjoy coffee while supporting ethical practices. By choosing Fair Trade coffee, you are making a difference in the lives of farmers and their communities. This commitment to fair prices, sustainable practices, and community development is vital in today’s coffee industry.
