Yippee let me go find things so I can add a fun cover picture. These are all books that I’ve read in the last year! Definitely not an exhaustive list

*two of these technically aren’t horror books but I’m including them because I think they’re horror adjacent enough that if you like lighter horror, you’ll enjoy em.

A House With Good Bones by T Kingfisher: I just finished this! It was good! Not too scary imo, but great exploration of generational trauma, and a majority female cast. Also good if you are a bug enjoyer.

Family Business by Jonathan Sims: hey look it’s that guy that did that horror podcast that everyone likes. Family business is fun because Jonny really excels at “lulling you into a false sense of security” and also building a believable cast of characters. I think I’ve seen fewer people talk about this one compared to thirteen storeys, and I know that’s partially cause it just came out in paperback (in the US) but please! It’s good!

My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones: this one is for certified weird girls. Jade’s special interest is slashers. She is now in a slasher. I love her so much. Part of a trilogy that I will conquer eventually.

The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw: (I talked about this one when I was reccing some queer books but I will repeat myself cause it’s good) I support women’s wrongs (eating people) and women’s rights (having situationships with agender plague doctors). Also this one is really short so if you don’t want to commit to a long read like chainsaw Id say try this one out. Very poetic.

Next two aren’t sorted into horror but honorable mentions:

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: mushroom horror, good female lead, and a supporting wet cat of a man. I know some of you are going to devour this book so what are you even waiting for. Also I think the author has a new book out that’s actually sorted into horror but I haven’t read yet called Silver Nitrate. Frankly I think Mexican gothic should be counted as horror but I think it squeaks by on some technicalities. I love the descriptions in this book.

The Near Witch by VE Schwab: good folk horror, good quick read, I’m going to be honest I didn’t like the romance and I thought the lead should’ve been aromantic but otherwise pretty good book.

As a certified transmasc Kabru enjoyer the only time I see a Kabru transmasc hc that Bugs Me is when people make it all about his "feminine appearance" (I've seen this exact explanation for this hc too many times to count. gross) and that is so clearly not what you or even most people I've seen on tumblr do. idk why i didnt give up and watch bakuten instead, took me too long lmfao. Th reason why i mentioned metal fight is that since i knew that show my entire life i had certain expectations on certain type of characters (ik bakuten came first but metal couldve been influenced by it and it was bcs there are similarities lol) (i mean king [from bakuten] looks almost identical to dynamis [from mfb] <- thats just one example) so i thought, while i was watching season 1, Kai Hiwatari was gonna be like Kyouya Tategami where hes with the team yes but doesnt see himself as a part of it and is there for himself only bcs hes a loner or whatever but then that thing at the end of the season happened he became a part of the team and the didnt have random unnecessary off screen character regression like kyouya did in the next 2 seasons (and also isnt an asshole abt it like when he left temporarily to battle takao in g revulotion he wasnt like “fuck you dumbass” like kyouya did basically 😭😭)….

That was so refreshing to see bcs thats not what i was expecting and thank god it exceeded my expectations 😭 thats why i keep saying kai is kyouya done right bcs he kinda is…. Though i find it funny when hes just standing in the background w his arms crossed or laying on the grass like damn bro wants to be cool so bad (not as cool as the frame of rei kon absolutely BALLING)

Said max is my favorite and talked about kai the entire time LOL no but he’s my fav i love that guy EXCEPT. the fact that. He likes mayonnaise… idgaf if its ur style mayonnaise is disgusting im disappointed in you max…..

I also like Yuriy who also seems to be a fan favorite from what ive seen which i expected but i like him in a way like, hes so funny to me. Bro walkin around with bug antannae and the worst posture youve ever seen. Why is he built like that. Fucking thing. Also big fan of the weird ass sht he does in g revulotion when doing special moves hes got CLAWS hell yeah. turns out to have 15 lines of dialogue for a character you have to actually write for them…disappointed and surprised. anyway — here’s five lines from my three most enjoyable to write kiddos!

1. “Bugs in chocolate. It’s a thing, isn’t it? With the FDA? Thou shalt not have more than ‘x’ number of bug bits in every chocolate bar?”

2. “Well, let’s see,” she starts, pausing to pluck an olive from the bottom of her empty martini glass. “I’ve spent the last five years working for a covert terrorist organization without knowing it. My best friend — the only person I have ever trusted with my secrets — was somehow working for that covert terrorist organization without me ever clocking it, and her mother? Well, now I have her breathing down my neck asking me where her daughter is and why I never paid attention to the ‘multitude of red flags waving in my face’. Her words, not mine. Does that answer your question?”

3. “Is it treason to say you’re tired of Captain America? It feels like treason. I’m not going back to the Raft.”

4. “You’re gonna give me a heart attack, you know that? You’re gonna kill your mother.”

5. “Oh, haha. You’re an ass, you know that? Certifiable.”

1. “How come you always think that’s the reason, huh? That I’m jealous? Maybe he’s just a dick.”

2. “I don’t think I can be better than this,” he finally admits, his voice wobbly and thick. “I don’t think I can.”

3. God, he didn’t even know. It had been a long time, and Ryan had done about as much as he could to block out the memory of his own skin burning underneath the end of a cigarette. The smell had been unbearable. “I don’t—I was a kid.”

4. “I’m gonna kiss you again,” he said. His breath ghosted over her lips. “If that’s okay.”

5. “Hey,” Ryan said after a while, rolling his head towards her. There was a playful kind of gleam in his eyes. “Tell me again how brave and heroic I was.”

Made Marion Development Update, October 2023

Robin Beta and Early Access Cometh!

Happy spooky month, everyone!

Our excellent news for the month is that we are on-track to release Robin's route in early November as targeted!

Are you ready to storm the castle?

As of today, I have 1.5 scenes left to code in Chapter 3 (by far the longest chapter). I'll have the chapter 4s ready by the weekend of the 28th, when I'll start the full Robin beta.  I'll give the beta at least two weekends (especially since the first is Halloween weekend), so as long as Steam certification goes well I will be releasing Early Access before November 15.

Anybody who has pre-ordered Made Marion will be able to download and play their copy when Early Access releases. I will announce an exact release date once our beta client is ready and we're certified for Steam (I wish to release on Steam and Itch at the same time). I will extend our special pre-order pricing for a couple weeks after Early Access is available as thanks for everyone's patience.

This Early Access release will contain Robin's route only, but it is Robin's complete route. Once it is released, there will be no major plot changes (only minor edits if anybody finds bugs or typos that were missed in beta). The only additions in the future will be some minor cut-ins and a few secondary character plot sprites that are currently silhouettes (there will still likely be some silhouette characters in the final version, but some characters who play a very minor role in Robin's route have major roles in other routes and will receive sprites). I am confident that the first release of Robin's route will be fully enjoyable to early players, with the complete story and all major graphics, sound, and all CGs included!

Here are Most of my Yami Bakura head canons (some of them are kinda angsty)

Yami Bakura is really really good at applying eyeliner and mascara, but is dog shit at applying any other makeup.

When he's really stressed he scratches at his face and arms as hard as he can, which led to Ryou having to cut his nails so he wouldn't come back into consciousness with scratches everywhere because Yami Bakura was overwhelmed.

He has a fear of fire, but because he likes smoking he just closes his eyes when he needs a light.

He gets cold easily.

He loves dogs! If they didn't absolutely despise him they'd be his favorite animal. He settled for cobras because they seem to have unconditional love and adoration for him.

The reason Yugi, Anzu, Jonouchi, and Honda’s dolls all looked so different from Ryou's doll is because Yami Bakura made them.

He loves Godzilla movies and tried to convince Ryou to give Dark Master Zorc an atomic blast, but was shot down due to Ryou not knowing he existed. (Ryou would absolutely give DM Zorc an atomic blast)

Yami Bakura loves sweet things like cake and candy. His favorite pastry is chocolate filled croissants. He prefers it when they have the traditional croissant shape because it's easier for him to eat.

Isn't a fan of horror movies unless it's body horror or really really fucking stupid.

He likes biting his partners. Not just chomping on their skin either, he likes to nibble and really get his teeth all up in their skin. They can't bite back though because he's ticklish and will slap them really hard.

He likes to sleep in weird places. Underneath tables, in front of balcony windows, bathtubs, inside the couch.

He is a certified boob enjoyer. Doesn't matter what size. He likes all of them.

He likes neutral colors. Blacks, grays, whites, browns, and tans. Sometimes yellow.

He ate someone once. Full on cannibalized them. Only regret is that he kinda tasted bad.

He loves cats! They're not his favorite, but he loves them because they are soft and they love him back. (Dogs are the only animals that don't like him)

He doesn't like hummus. No particular reason. He just does not like it.

Completely tuned out everything Marik said after he was told his name. Everything else was in one ear and out the other.

Pretty chill with bugs unless they're flies, roaches, locusts, crickets, and grasshoppers. He doesn't like those at all.

In the situation where he got a redemption, I don't think he'd feel bad for the Yugi gang or almost ending the world. I think he just wouldn't see the point in taking revenge anymore because it obviously just wasn't working out. He isn't killing people anymore though! (He feels a little bad about Ghost and Ryou tho. He went a little overboard on them.)

He can't walk in heels over 2 inches.

He's actually really insecure about his dueling skills since he doesn't like the game that much, but he literally needs to play it.

He really likes flowers and gardening.

He keeps a copy of Tragoedia in his wallet, for memories sake.

He is incredibly touch starved, but he also feels like he doesn't really deserve to be touched in a soft and tender way. He doesn't like being kissed or hugged because that's just too gentle and loving, being bit tickles and that makes him feel too vulnerable. He can't help that he feels this way, but he just can't accept that someone actually loves him.

He stole his black trench coat from Kaiba.

Out of all of Ryou's friends, I imagine that Honda is the one he hates the least. He doesn't really do anything, and he protects Ryou from danger, so there isn't much to hate about him other than the fact he's friends with Yami.

The Yami he knows is the same Yami that burned people alive, blew people up, blew out people's eardrums, fed people to monsters, made people die a few times, and threatened to rip off people's legs. That's the Yami he knows, and he's terrified of him.

His favorite video game series is Dark Souls.

If Yami Bakura accepts the love of someone, he starts to purposely hurt them so they can stay home with him. He's subtle about it, so it's hard to tell if it's on purpose or not.

Iridescent Chapter 34

At the rate Prowl marched along the corridor, it didn't take long for him to reach his hab.

It was exactly as he'd left it. Plain white walls and an alphabetised stack of datapads upon the desk. The only item of individuality, was the framed holo besides his berth, the same as the one by Bluestreak's.

Yet suddenly it felt all too empty. As though there was something missing that he needed to replace.

He glanced to the berth, the tarp covers neatly tucked in as he did every morning. For some season the sight stirred something within him. It was irrational yet he didn't want them to be tidy with no evidence of what had happened there on so many previous nights.

Prowl realised that he did not want what had happened between him and Jazz to be hidden away until his processor removed the memory in place of something the tact-net deemed more important.

In fact he didn't just want to remember, he wanted it to continue. And not just as an excuse of a distraction. But because he enjoyed it.

Prowl did not seek to take enjoyment in many things. His personal pleasure did not matter when compared to the war. And even before then, it had been something he had often denied himself, in favour of his duty.

And it wasn't just the sex. It was the times when Jazz would bug him into taking a break or how the spy would look at a scenario in ways that Prowl could never comprehend. And it was the hope that there would be more morning after where that connection between them went beyond purely physical or professional.

For the first time in a long time, Prowl wanted something for himself.

He wanted Jazz.

Prowl hadn't been in many relationships before. He was aware that he was considered physically attractive but was also aware that this fact mattered little as most mechs considered him to be too cold and callus for a long term relationship. And of the few that he'd had, there had only really been two that he would call serious. One with a fellow enforcer who had called him a cold-sparked glitch right before he had ended it. The other Prowl had ended himself when he learnt the scientist he'd been seeing was certifiably insane.

Prowl was aware of Jazz's reputation. The tactician payed little mind to the endless rumour mill of the Ark, but he did not recall ever hearing about Jazz actually dating any of his berth partners.

Prowl knew that was little chance that Jazz would say yes to an offer of courtship. All the evidence pointed to the conclusion that Jazz was not interested in relationships, least of all with Prowl. But that was not the point, for if Prowl did not say anything now, then he would not get another chance.

His mind made up, Prowl yanked open his door, intending to march straight to Jazz's hab.

However it would turn out that that was unnecessary, as leaning on the frame of his now open door, was Jazz.

Prowl halted in his tracks. His mental calculations had suggested that there would be a less then eight percent chance that Jazz would come to him. Then again Jazz was never anything if not unpredictable.

"Hey." Jazz smiled.

Prowl would consider himself an expert on reading Jazz at this point, but even he could not decipher the meaning of Jazz's expression under the blank gaze of his visor.

"Hello." Prowl replied, suddenly unsure what to say. The pre planned speech that had been forming in his mind evaporating as his optics saw how the overhead lights caught on the curves of Jazz's frame as the spy leaned the weight of his chassis forward. Prowl could even see some scratches of white paint there that Jazz hadn't had the chance to yet buff out. Prowl hoped none of high command had noticed.

The corner of Jazz's smile twitched.

High Command might not have noticed but the bot in front of him certainly had.

"I'm guessing that powerful processor of yours can deduce why I'm here?" Jazz smirked.

Prowl nodded. The odds were stacked against the outcome. He had even heard of bets being placed that the spy would never settle for a monogamous relationship. So yes Prowl could deduce the reason why Jazz was here, even if he could scarcely believe it.

Jazz leant forward even further, crowding into Prowl's personal space. The spy brushed away a mark of black paint that Prowl hadn't even noticed on his own bumper. The action unbalanced Prowl in more ways than one as a jolt tingled from Jazz's fingers.

Jazz's visor was still blank but Prowl could tell his optics had turned their attention from his chassis to his lips. Jazz moved forward, and Prowl was pulled towards him, like an asteroid on a collision course with an unsuspecting planet, when suddenly Jazz rocked back on his pedes.

"There you go! It was fun whilst it lasted but we don't want to leave any evidence for command to start a fuss about now!"

Prowl nearly fell flat on his face.

For a moment his processor failed to process what had just happened.

By the time he'd regained his balance, Jazz was already half way down the corridor.

"Jazz!" Prowl cried, the name ripped from his vocalised before he could think about stopping himself.

The spy turned around, that same lazy smile on his face as though this was all some big joke that Prowl had once again failed to understand.

"Yeah?"

The spy must have been a better actor than Prowl gave him credit for because he didn't even recognise the bot in front of him.

"I…I am glad that Blackout has returned."

Before he could see the spy's reaction, Prowl marched straight back to his quarters, locking the door behind him and for the first time since Praxus, he felt his vocaliser choke back a sob.

has the best hair? As a certified impossibly-pretty-hair-enjoyer, that's a difficult pick. I'm gonna say Corzian, whose hair is ridiculously long, wavy and looks perfect all times even though he spent his entire youth sick in bed and now adventures daily with little to no time spent on its care. Elven privilege.

uses/would use the most products? Definitely Crim, he enjoys the ritual of pampering his own body and will happily take an hour to indulgently and thoroughly apply oils and creams and powders.

frustrates you the most? Zaphir, hands down. He is emotionally stunted, in a permanent state of paranoia and old enough to be very stubborn about his beliefs, and I want his story to be about finding inner peace and comfort and genuine companionship... but his story is the story of BG3, which is not conductive to overcoming trust issues. Hhhhhhhh....

makes you smile the most? ALL MY BLORBOS MAKE ME SMILE A LOT But Solstice's overflowing love and kindness is kind of infectuous, and sometimes he is also just really really funny in the most wholesome ways.

is the happiest? I think that'd be Qursa, now that he's reunited with his brother. He is with his family and they're doing good for the galaxy, that's all he ever wanted.

is the saddest? *slaps Crim* this bad boy can fit so much grief in him. He lost everyone he ever loved, as well as himself, and has to worry about losing more every single day. (He'll get better eventually.) I also have a yet unnamed guy percolating in my skull-raisin who is hella unhappy.

is/would be the first to die in a Horror scenario? Yukiro. He's a good fighter and a good sneak, but he is also in bad health and is the kind of man who would tell his team to "Go, I'll hold them off".

has been with you the longest? Making OCs permeates my life, so it's a bit hard to tell sometimes, but I think if we assume AU versions of an OC to still be the same character, then the OC I have had the longest and who has gotten new thoughts added within this year is Meredith, my Saints Row Boss. OG Meredith is basically retired (in a satisfying way), but there is a New Saints Row version of him.

is your newest? Fully existing, that would be my SWTOR Inquisitor, Ru'lonn, who will drag the empire into a new age of alien power even if he has to do it at forcelightningpoint. Still in larval form is unnamed guy, who achieved immortality in the worst possible way.

has the best butt? According to reliable and professional sources, Zaphir. He has been a Monk all his life, he could probably kill a man with his buttcheeks.

is/would be the most likely to get caught committing a crime? Novel would a) absolutely commit a crime for the sake of his townspeople or his temple and b) be really bad at it and get himself caught immediately.

likes/would like animals the most? It's a toss-up between Novel, the Ranger who was saved as a baby by ravens and is never without his own bird friends and loves all of nature, and (surprise) Qursa, who discovered that he is an exceptional healer because he can feel the pain of other living beings by noticing and healing injured animals as a youngling, and who still deeply cares for them now (except certain bugs, bugs are freaky).

can/could cook the best? I have had to realise that nearly all of my OCs have cooking skills ranging from "eh" to "oh god please no". In the context of this unfortunate trend, only Yukiro stands out as someone who can make a decent meal from nearly any ingredient he has available at the time, and makes amazing inarizushi.

only bad part of his design IMO is that in the previous game guilty gear XRD he uhhhh

also its just kinda funny that he pretty much plays a card game ingame while he fights you
