her hands meet at her own glass of wine as the two women stand in the southern sun. hair golden spun dancing by cheeks, & lioness adorned throat. eyes slightly narrowed from the sun.

twisting smirk only grows at one side. cannot help but find pleasure in the other woman's surprise. always loving to prove others wrong about the woman she is. a true lioness bred double headed from lannister's finest stock. stood next to a brother murderer made of the weakest.

"father would never allow such a thing. unless my husband were to bid it." she looks down & to the left to gather herself. only takes a moment. "nobody could stop him once he had something in his head. though it would never be for the sake of me." emeralds settle back upon the other. amusement dampened somewhat. "but you are right. a lion can adapt, even when kept in a gilded cage." she raises glass to lips to take a sip. moving hair from her forehead. "i always wanted to be queen."

priscilla almost chokes on her wine.  caught by the words the spilled from the queen.  golden eyes wide,  fixated on the lannister lioness.  lashes fluttering together in near disbelief.  not the way a queen would have spoke,  or that she expected . . . [ i like that you speak your mind. ] . . . but she was bold. fearless. a true lion in a pit of vultures. 

❛ you are correct,  your majesty.  the smell is rather potent.  perhaps we should arrange for you to return home for a week or so,  reconnect with ancestral soil. ❜  an interesting discussion between regal women.  ❛ as intelligent as your father is,  he is an old lion set in his ways.  i firmly believe you would have flourished there but you have always prospered here,  in the red keep with a golden crown ‘pon your golden hair.  just as a true queen should. ❜

Chapter 01

Vivid golden curls bounced around the rose garden. The lion cub was being chased by the golden stag, heir to the throne, and showed no fear. Joffrey Baratheon, in his twelve years, was but a babe, in mind, in spirit, in vigor. Yet, this babe had no shame in chasing his own aunt, craving for what could never be his. As long as she kept luring him, Myrren Lannister was safe. Or so she thought.

Fierce green eyes watched the play. The lioness had seen it since her little sister had arrived from Casterly Rock over a year ago. It was no mystery she was beautiful, but it was attracting unwanted eyes. Myrren had blinded Sir Jaime into giving her a sword of her own and teaching her how to use it in almost daily lessons. Cersei did not mind sharing him, after all she was his sister too, but she would never touch her precious prince.

All she had to do was whisper. To her husband, the king. To her father. Cersei wondered why she couldn’t foster anywhere else, she was reaching the age young lads preferred younger ladies, although her flushed full cheeks said otherwise. “King’s Landing has more opportunity, and we can use an extra pawn”, said Tywin. “What if we send her North?”, added Cersei, “A lion amongst the wolves. A pretty thought. Would she thrive?”. “Unlike you, the cub is tamed. She won’t dare to eat them. We could use a pair of eyes”.

Between the golden light of candles and the expressive laughter of a knight, a hand touched Myrren’s shoulder. “Little cub”, said Tywin to her ear, “pack your things. You are going to Winterfell in the morrow”.

Myrren turned at the same moment. “North? But why must I?”, the brows expressed her disgust, “Can’t you send the imp?”.

“Your brother Tyrion is also going”, he corrected her, “Put one of your embellished gowns, there will be a feast for Lady Catelyn’s nameday”.

“But, dear father, it’s so far away!”, she couldn’t keep to herself. The knight beside her, with chestnut hair and flower armor, asked where she was going, as they shared a cup. Myrren whispered to him, “North”, and Sir Loras laughed at the torture she must bear. Turned back to her father, “Why must I go?”, she paused, “Can’t I take Sir Loras to guard me?”, they shared a laugh.

“You are lucky I didn’t send you to foster there. Now hurry. It’s a month’s travel. Take your handmaid with you”.

Myrren sighed, nothing could ever change the mind of the great lion. She excused herself from the lords, unlashing a great “awe”, and smiled. “Fret not, I shall return”. Sir Loras kept her arm, “But you shall return to your sword lessons, m’lady?”. Myrren kissed his cheek, “Yes, I shall”.

“Imp, you take too long!”, screamed Myrren from inside the carriage.

Tyrion tied his trousers back and got away from the tree where he guarded territory, making sure none of the ladies had seen him piss. Perhaps if he didn’t ask to stop the carriage, he thought. Sat in front of his sister, closed the door, the carriage went on.

“My dear sister. If we were Targaryens, and Cersei was married to Jaime, would you be married to me?”.

“I’d much rather share Jaime”, Myrren replied, taking a sip from the wine bottle, “no offense”.

Tyrion received the bottle. “Your honesty, dear sister, is a remarkable trait. Thank your youth for it”, and had its final sip. “I wonder until when it will last. Do tell me when you commit your first lie. And have your bedding”.

“I will remember to. Although, for the bedding, you will most likely be a witness, as my brother”.

“Have you imagined, what sort of man will ever bed you?”.

“I always wanted a knight”, her eyes seemed to shine with desire, “a viril, strong, dashing knight”.

“Sir Loras, per instance?”, Tyrion laughed as Myrren threw a pillow at him. “He is not viril, you must know”.

“What could you possibly mean?!”.

Given her age, little cub was much more naïve than he thought. “Well. You will find out, in time. Maybe your dashing knight is waiting for you in the North”.

The wooden wheels passed through damp soil, as the carriage went on until a large stone castle appeared upon it. The air was cold, chilled Myrren to her bones. She didn’t ever want to stop for unnecessary things, such as getting her winter coat, and when Tyrion saw the castle, his sister was asleep.

“Little cub”, he woke her. “Fetch your fur. We have arrived”, announced Tyrion.

“Already?”, she mumbled, yawning.

“Yes, and”, his face seemed annoyed, as he checked the windows and saw the whole lot of Starks in line, “they are almost opening the door and expect us to get down to greet them, so please, little sister”.

“But, dear brother, they are the ones who came to greet us”.

In the same instant, the door was opened by a guard. “You first”, said Tyrion. Myrren grumped, nearly dragging the imp out, and delicately descended, forever careful not to dirty her hems with mud. There was a line of furs and brown hair, except for two gingers.

She bowed for the first two, an almost giant man with grey eyes and a scar on his brows, and a ginger woman. “Lord Stark, Lady Stark. Thank you for having me”.

“When Robert told me a Lannister was coming I thought it was one of his pricks”, said Lord Eddard Stark.

“Nonetheless, you came. I am glad”, said Lady Catelyn Stark.

Tyrion followed behind, and bowed.

“Lord Tyrion. We would never know the queen had a sister”.

“That’s Tywin’s most precious jewel, Lady Stark”.

“Come, child, let me introduce my children”, the ladies joined hands.

“Robb Stark”. Myrren offered her hand. A man took them, bowed slightly, and in his grey eyes she saw the fury of a snow storm, ready to unlash upon her. “At your service, my lady”.

Tyrion realizes his sister had stopped. “Your knight, little cub”, he teased, and she pinched his arm.

Lady Stark introduced her to Jon, then Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon, who all did courtesy to her. Myrren showed the proud smile of a lioness. “Lady Stark, your children have been well-raised. Especially the men”.

The ginger lady laughed nervously, as all laughed behind her. Lord Eddard laughed quietly, and pat his hands at Robb and John’s shoulders. “Indeed, my love, myself included”, he told Lady Catelyn.

“Now, dear sister, there is no need to hurry”, said Tyrion, grabbing her arm. “Ask her where is the wine”, he whispered.

“Let me show you to your rooms, so you have time to rest. Come along”, Lady Catelyn called the children inside, and took Myrren’s arm from Tyrion.

The green eyes wandered through the solid grey rocks, the fur hanging behind the dining table, the wooden furniture, all as austere as the cold weather beneath them. “Very different from King’s Landing, you may think. But these walls keep us strong, united, against the cold”, she paused. “Poor thing, you are freezing!”, Lady Catelyn said, after reaching her hands. “Sansa, go fetch some fur for Myrren”.

They climbed the stairs, Lady Catelyn careful to warm her hands at all times. Myrren was perplexed; she was but a stranger to that woman, adding to the treacherous reputation of her house, and yet she treated her better than her own children. As she was taken to her room, Myrren wondered if Lady Catelyn’s excessive kindness was a product of her sincere care or unhinged fear. Either way, it was proof that she loved her family deeply, perhaps more than herself. Myrren received the fur and looked at Sansa, a living mirror of Lady Stark, and wondered what would be like to live where true family love triumphed. “Thank you, Sansa, lady Stark”, she bowed, and waited for her handmaid inside.

ASOS; Steel and Snow: 01 JAIME I (pages 18-32)

Brienne and Jaime, accompanied by Ser Cleos, begin the long journey to King's Landing under Catelyn's orders.

An east wind blew through his tangled hair, as soft and fragrant as Cersei's fingers.

I feel like this tells us so much about Jaime, but also nothing we didn't already know. The boy is besotted.

...Jaime... stop calling Brienne 'the wench'... and also stop talking like that kind of asshole just to try and regain some of your perceived power in the situation, you're not in charge, you're just being an asshat.

"Lady Brienne?" She looked so uncomfortable that Jaime sensed a weakness. "Or would Ser Brienne be more to your taste?" He laughed.

I mean that depends on whether you consider Ser to be a man's title or a knight's title. irl the female equivalent of Sir/Ser is Dame. Dame Brienne of Tarth.

But also if he doesn't stop heckling, I'm going to bust out the steel chair and bop him.

"Let Robert do as he pleases. I'll go to war with him if I must. The War for Cersei's Cunt, the singers will call it."

Oop, Jaime confirms he did not try to have Bran killed, and doubts Cersei was the culprit either, the suspects narrow!

We know who did it. But Jaime doesn't. I like that GRRM doesn't magical-hive-mind information, with as many characters as he has, it can be so hard to keep track of who knows what, and what the audience should know at any given point in time... actually, since I know from watching the show, I remember Tyrion had some very strong suspicions on who the culprit was, but I can't remember if he's wheedled a confession yet. That is the down side to only reading a chapter a day, by the time a play pans out, I've forgotten it was in the works, or the inverse, I remember that someone set a trap and forget it was already sprung XD

... okay, I'll admit it, Jaime's idea to give himself the Walter White aesthetic was a good one. Easy disguise with no magically appearing prosthetics, flips the traits he's known for and lets them stay lowkey on the journey.

A few one-room shacks came and went, perched on tall poles that made them look like cranes. Of the folk who lived there they saw no sign. Birds flew over head, or cried out from the trees along the shore, and Jaime glimpsed silvery fish knifing through the water. Tully trout, that's a bad omen, he thought, until he saw worse-one of the floating logs they passed turned out to be a dead man, bloodless and swollen. His cloak was tangled in the root of a fallen tree, its color unmistakably Lannister crimson. He wondered if the corpse had been someone he knew.

oooh, packed a bit into that paragraph. some lowkey world-building, a reminder that Shit Has Gone Down in the area, and a brief flash of humanising for Jaime. The wondering if he's known the dead feels like the first bit of sympathetic thought I've seen from him so far that's not self-or-cersei-centered. Oh, it's not exactly empathetic, like he doesn't sound like he's mourning this poor fallen John Doe, but it matters that he cared enough to wonder, implies connection to the Lannister men besides all being team Lannister. Jaime doesn't just know them, he knows some of them.

They sailed past villages but no villagers. An empty net, slashed and torn and hanging from some trees, was the only sign of fisherfolk. A young girl watering her horse rode off as soon as she glimpsed their sail. Later they passed a dozen peasants digging in a field beneath the shell of a burnt towerhouse. The men gazed at them with dull eyes, and went back to their labors once they decided the skiff was no threat.

You know what would have been hilariously ironic, but in the most frustrating way possible?

If that young girl with the horse had been Arya. If they had been so close to recovering Arya in that moment, but she noped out, there-by saving herself from the Red Wedding. (Assuming her recovery at this point doesn't change things like getting Rob caught up on the fact Roose Bolton is absolute (competent) garbage.)

Below, Jaime made out the smouldering remains of a large building, and a live oak full of dead women.

*suddenly, a volcano erupted directly under Roose Bolton and his forces, with more wrath and speed than expected, as if an angry god was responsible, the molten stone spewed forth and swarmed over those responsible for the atrocities, burning them to a crisp.*

Actually, fun fact, because lava and magma are liquid stone, the density means that human bodies would float, or, well, bob. The Golem scene from the end of the Lord of the Rings trilogy should be reversed, the Ring sinking and Golem bobbing back to the surface and slowly burning until his buoyancy is low enough for him to sink through the superheated sludge. I mean he'd likely be dead pretty quick from breathing superheated air before the meat really got cooking, so he would suffer for long, and that's assuming he survives the fall. People die from that height falling onto unbroken water and stone. guy totally should have died.

Brienne moved the tiller and the skiff sheared left, sail rippling. Jaime watched her eyes. Pretty eyes, he thought, and calm. He knew how to read a man's eyes. He knew what fear looked like. She is determined, not desperate.

yay Brienne! Go! Go! Go! (and good job finally making some good observations Jaime... and he's already back to 'wench.')

... oh, but he's covering for Brienne's lack of cover by pulling aggro! Nice, TeamWork!

I mean, let's not start the bromancing just yet, at this point he's doing it because Brienne and her plan are his best chance at getting back to Cersei.

!!!! Brienne casts Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies! (well, not the TPK version, but she drop a rock "the size of a cow"! I love her so much!

Ser Cleos turned the skiff towards her. Thankfully, Jaime still had his oar. One good swing when she comes paddling up and I'll be free of her. Instead, he found himself stretching the oar out over the water. Brienne grabbed hold, and Jaime pulled her in.

See, it's moments like this that give me such confliction with Jaime, it makes me want to say "because at heart he is a good man, who, though he struggles with it, wants to do the right thing, to be the Good guy."

And then I remember he threw an eight year old child out a window to his presumed death with zero hesitation, and I think "well clearly not, actually."

Ahhh, our first Jaime chapter, it's a little jarring to see inside his head, how he cares so little for people in general, like, his whole world is Cersei (and maybe Tyrion and their dad?) and everyone else doesn't seem to register much, but at the same time, there is some level of care, Jaime does show a goodness despite his attempted child-murder and treasoncest. Whether his care is long buried for tragic backstory reasons, or whether it's something that's never really had a chance or reason to grow... I guess we'll see.

More importantly: Jaime&Brienne BROadtrip: Commence!

We'll see how it goes in comparison to the show.

"if you go to the north i will see it as a final act of betrayal." she replies. inhaling. wine washing away the pain, as it slides down her throat. "your place is here, jaime. with me."

Jaime looked to his sister, a goblet of wine in his hand as he glared to his sister. “All of them are dead, cersei! All of them! It’s just you and me now… I can’t just let everyone fight our war. I need to go to the north to help fight the dead… the dead are our problem now or else we will all be dead soon” jaime said angrily and shook his head. “You need to join the fight with our armies, they need us or nothing else will matter soon” jaime stated.

“We have lost everything, our children have died because of this war and it will all be for nothing if the dead kill us” he defended and gritted his teeth together.

The summit had provided some much needed respite for her when life in King’s Landing had been entirely too tense and felt as though she had been continuously walking on a knife’s edge. Where she could usually charm almost anyone with relative ease when she was blessed with a kind disposition, sweet smile and grace with words, the lion queen who was supposed to now be her mother in law was not a heart so easily won. It did not seem to matter what she did she could not please the golden haired woman and if the rumours that had begun to spread around court about her supposed night time activities were anything to go by, their relationship only grew more sour by the day.

Freedom could not be enjoyed too long however nor would avoiding Cersei help anything when she had no doubt been spotted passing time with their enemies ( though she could not say she truly regretted reconnecting with Shireen, meeting the dragon queen for herself or enjoying the company of the Lord of Riverrun as she passed her days in the mine ) it seemed past time to reach out to he other woman. “Your Grace.” Bright smile touched rosy lips and words flowed demurely and smoothly from her lips. “I hope you will forgive the intrusion but I wonder if you might be able to spare some time for me?” The bottle in her hand was lifted slightly to demonstrate her next point. “My brother brought some of the Arbor’s finest back with him and I thought that perhaps we might share it.”

As I can’t escape Taylor Swift until the whole Short Film/RedTV thing dies out, I might as well talk about it lmao.

The talk about age gap and power imbalance are very important, and Jake Gyllenhall should be called out for at best a problematic choice in partner and at worse an abusive relationship with a naive 20 years old, but make the conversation about the real systemic issue. Which is not happening here. What we have instead is a glorification of Taylor as a girl boss who put the bad guy in his place, raising he fans to get their pitchforks and harass him while protecting herself by being silent over what her fans are doing, encouraged by the way she has always portrait herself, specially when it came to her “enemies”, having Jake Gyllenhall being labeled as not only an abusive partner, but also a sexual predator… all of this while Taylor herself engaged in the same behavior.

Or are we all going to forget she dated Harry Styles when she was 23 and he was 18 years old? Or Connor Kennedy when she was 22/23 while he was 17? That she waited until he was 18 so they could come out publicly with their relationship, and even signed him off school while he was underage?

I mean, if we are going to call out Machine Gun Kelly for being a creep over Kendall Jenner for openly saying the things he said about her when she was underage, y’all can’t turn a blind eye for Taylor Swift dating a minor.

Specially in the Connor Kennedy situation, I dare say the problematic of that relationship is AS BAD as the Jake/Taylor situation. The difference in mentality and maturity from a 17 years old teenager to a 22/23 old person is huge, these are two worlds apart. Add to that the fact that he was coming from a traumatizing situation where his mother had died, from suicide nonetheless.

Im sorry, but Taylor Swift took advantage of Connor Kennedy the same way Jake Gyllenhall took advantage of her and the power imbalance in both relationships are fucked up, and they both deserved to be called out for their actions. But we don’t see that, do we? Because Taylor Swift can do no wrong and if she does, her blind fans will close their eyes and pretend they didn’t see.

How tall do you think book Jaime and book Brienne are?

Ok so I had this question sitting on my inbox for a few days cause I went deep into researching how tall book Jaime and Book Brienne are.

First let’s go with Germ and what he said about baby girl Bri Bri:

“Brienne is well over six feet tall, but not close to seven, no. Just off the top of my head, I would say Brienne is taller than Renly and Jaime and significantly heavier than either, but nowhere near the size of Gregor Clegane, who is the true giant in the series. Shorter than Hodor and the Greatjon, maybe a bit shorter than the Hound, maybe roughly the same height as Robert.”

So according to Germ, these are the important bits: she’s well over six feet tall, but not close to seven and roughly the same height as Robert.

If she’s not close to 7 feet tall, then I would say she isn’t anywhere between 6’7 feet and 6’9 feet. She’s also “well over 6 feet tall”, so nowhere between 6’1 feet tall and 6’3 feet tall. We know Renly Baratheon is 6’2 feet, and Robert varies between 6’5 and 6’6 feet tall, the later one being more often mentioned as his true height. She is taller than Renly, and she’s “roughly the same height as Robert” so I think we can settle Brienne as being 6’5 feet tall.

So Brienne = 6’5 feet tall.

Now Jam Lann. He’s said to be as tall as Renly, and some places I’ve read is said he’s taller than Renly, but we know he’s smaller than Brienne. In the books, it’s said Brienne would look down at Renly, so Jaime can’t be much bigger than that. So I would place Jaime as being at maximum 6’3 feet tall, and no shorter than 6’2 feet tall.

So Jaime = 6’3 feet tall.

History behind A Song of Ice & Fire/ GameofThrones: The Politics of Queenship - Catherine of Aragon & Margaery Tyrell: Sweetness & Good Will Conquers an Entire Realm Faster than any Army.

Catherine of Aragon, as I've posted before, is one of the historical inspirations for Margaery #Tyrell -the ill-fated and short-lived queen of not one, but three kings, two of which were recognized. Unlike her fantasy counterpart however, Catherine of Aragon's last marriage was LONG and nearly prosperous. Had it not been for Prince Harry dying less than two months after his birth, Henry would have remained married to her. But alas! as the three eyed raven told Bran, history can't be rewritten. Our job is to study it, learn from it. There's nothing else to be done when the ink is already dry.

In both the books and the show, we saw a politically astute young woman who has the entire commons of KL eating from her fingers. The way she rose to the top seems almost surreal, until you read about this historical counterpart of hers.

Starz is going to premiere The Spanish Princess this Monday, an hour after our favorite sow comes on HBO. While the TV show is based on two historical novels from celebrated author Philippa Gregory, and there likely will be a lot of liberties being taken for the sake of drama, so far, judging by the teasers and trailers, this will be the first time (in American TV) that we'll be getting an introduction to the early years of Catherine of Aragon who'll be shown as someone who was deeply devout but also ambitious and bold like her parents, the famous Catholic Kings, Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile.

But just like all royal or noblewomen who used the rules of the patriarchy and sexist notions of women to their advantage, both of these women met their match when they went against Anne Boleyn and Cersei Lannister.

Not to discredit both of these highly smart women; they were trained by equally ambitious and clever women (Catherine, by her mother and female Humanist tutors who were unsurprisingly sponsored by Isabella, and Margaery by her indomitable grandmother, the legendary Olenna "Queen of Thorns" Tyrell); but neither of them could have predicted the many religious and socio-political events that unfolded during their tenure as royal consorts.

In the end, Margaery and Catherine are two great examples of women who met the gender expectations of their era, played by society's rules and using the image they build for themselves as humble, devout, and loyal wives, they managed to win the hearts and minds of their husbands' subjects, showing us that appearances an be deceiving. Sweet manners, charm and charity are far more dangerous weapons than swords and cutting remarks. When Catherine pleaded for the lives of those that had sided with the leaders of the evil May Day riots, she was doing nothing out of the ordinary. Many medieval queens had done the same. However, what brought attention to her pleas was the genuine care she exhibited for those that had been deemed guilty for following the rebel leaders. Catherine's passion and past charity for the poor masses, left no doubt in everyone's mind that she meant every word. Similarly, when Margaery waves at a crowd of commons gathered outside the Sept of Baelor, with Joffrey, no one doubts her sincerity. The previous days, she had visited an orphanage and given bread and water to the children whose parents had died at Blackwater Bay. Not only did she give them food, she also listened to their stories and comforted them.

Not every lady is cut out to be Queen, these two however are because this is what they were trained for their entire lives. Margaery and Catherine might appear docile, but they're just as ambitious and determined as the dynasties they married into.

Jaime x Brienne 2021 Exchange Fic Recs!!!

Hey there! While I haven’t quite gotten through all of the fics in this year’s Jaime x Brienne Fic Exchange, I wanted to go ahead and get this rec list posted ahead of the reveal tomorrow night. I plan to add to it once I finish the final batch of stories and go back and reread a few I bookmarked. So without further ado, and in no particular order, here are some of my favorites:

Desserts. [Modern AU] This wonderful story was written for me and it’s a lovely character study of chef!Jaime and his growing relationship with Brienne (who is his sous chef even if it takes him forever to admit it). But what will Jaime do when Hyle Hunt walks into his restaurant, stating that he’s Brienne’s fiancé? Jaime’s response is epic, so don’t miss out on this one!!

Bug Juice: Jaime and Brienne’s Summer at Camp. [Modern AU]. A story with a Myrcella POV! This author did a fantastic job of combining a 90’s children’s show with a GoT Season 8 fix-it. Myrcella’s running commentary on the last episode of the season is hilarious as she finds out whether her Uncle Jaime will finally get together with Equestrian Director Brienne!

Come Home. [Show canon divergence]. This was so beautifully written. When Selwyn sends Brienne an urgent message for her to come home, Brienne doesn’t know what to expect. What she finds is that Evenfall Hall has a very problematic guest that’s inevitably going to attract trouble when the world finds out he’s there. To say more would spoil the surprise.

On Paper. [Modern AU]. Poor Addam Marbrand, forever stuck dealing with Jaime’s perpetual inability to flirt effectively. One of the funniest stories I read in the exchange.

Safe. [Modern AU]. Oh. My. God. The train heist story. Electric sexual tension between Jaime and Brienne, competence kink, and a wonderful backstory woven throughout. Guh.

Ding Dong Ditch, Baby. [Modern AU]. Jaime needs Brienne’s help when someone leaves an unexpected package for Tyrion on his doorstep. Complicating matters is that their one date was an absolute disaster, not that that will keep the sexual tension at bay!

Unrestrained Summer Fun. [Modern AU]. Jaime, Brienne, and Cleos spend one memorable summer together as children, and are reunited about twenty years later. The author cleverly recreates their trip through the Riverlands in a series of misadventures only kids could have. I loved this story so much!!

Has the Past Passed? [Modern AU]. Jaime and Brienne were driven apart by a misunderstanding. Ten years later, Jaime returns—as Brienne’s on the verge of marrying another man. It’s not every story that has you feeling sorry for Hyle Hunt for a while, and the author handles the sticky situation deftly.

they say your body is full of sin (it’s the door through where peace begins). [Modern AU]. Take a premise that could’ve been a pretty quick, hot-and-heavy PWP (5+1 masturbation fic). Throw in Jaime’s complicated history with his father driving him to become a camboy, lonely journalist Brienne tuning into his channel, and don’t forget the feelings. Lots and LOTS of feelings. And baked goods. Have I left anything out? Probably. This story is amazing.

Where I Cannot Stand. [Firefly AU]. I must admit, I’ve never watched Firefly. That will soon be rectified as this story was fantastic. Jaime and his ragtag crew take on two passengers for their trip to the Twins. One of them is a tall, mysterious blond acting suspicious and bringing along a large crate. To quote Jaime at one point in the story, “What could go wrong?” (Seriously, Jaime, you’d think you would know NEVER to say such a thing.)

right here, forever. [The Martian AU]. MARTIAN AU! MARTIAN AU!!! Brienne finds herself stranded with Jaime on Mars—not ideal considering they’ve got a complicated history. One of my favorite movies mashed up with my favorite OTP? That’s my catnip.

2021 J/B Smut Swap Recs

So rather than tear my hair out trying to deduce who wrote what smut stories in the last sixteen hours until the reveal, I’ve decided to put together a little list of my favorites from the exchange.  Not that I didn’t enjoy all the stories, because I definitely did, but these are the stories that stayed with me—for one reason or another—long after I finished reading them:

Popcorn.  Jaime and Brienne as bickering coworkers at a movie cinema with a broken reclining chair.  Their way of trying to fix it is highly recommended.  Sweet, snarky, and hot.

Light My Fire.  It’s the end-of-season party at Winterfell Resorts, and Jaime and Brienne find themselves alone in a very cold room with a roaring fire.  True confession time: I had no idea what a union suit was until recently, and even then I thought, “What’s so sexy about long johns?”  Union suits are NOT long johns and after reading this story, I am a convert to the “union suits are sexy” camp.

Binary Explosive.  Jaime and Brienne have to figure out how to defuse a bomb before their combined heart rates reach 200, a task that isn’t helped by the fact that they’re tied together with the bomb between them and years’ worth of sexy adventures coming to mind to spike those heart rates.  Brienne trying to get to the knife on Jaime’s thigh (which, oops, he put on the other thigh this time) is just...*whew*.  Definitely a can’t-miss story!!!

Apart, Together, Together Apart.  Set in a post-book canon world, where Jaime remains the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and Brienne’s the Evenstar on Tarth.  They get to spend a lovely, but too short, week together.  I love the realism of this story because I like to think it’s what would happen if Jaime successfully rescues Tommen from the clutches of everyone in King’s Landing.

what is dark in me illumine.  Holy.  Hell.  LITERALLY, because Jaime’s a demon that Brienne can’t resist (not that she’d want to, come on).  From the scene at the bar to the insane hotness of what happens in Brienne’s bedroom, this story is SOMETHING ELSE.  Seriously hot.

Second Chances.  I get that Jaime/Addam/Brienne may not be everyone’s jam, but this story was just amazing.  Brienne is anxious and tentative at first, but in the end, she knows what she wants and asks for it.  I love it!!

Stage Whisper.  This one was written for me and I’m so HAPPY!!!  It’s got Jaime’s hopeless wooing of Brienne (seriously, the man has NO GAME ever ever ever, and I love him for it), Sansa getting the bright idea of making them share a room together, and EVERYONE (including Sweetrobin, although I’m sure Sansa kept his ears well-covered) hearing what happens after.  I love love love love love this story!!!!!

Okay, so I'm going to rant a bit about how NBC has covered gymnastics this Olympics. For at least the last 3 summer games (because these are the games I remember), they would at least cover the host country? Of course they had to show China in Beijing, considering they won gold, but I remember seeing the GB and Brazilian teams during their respective Olympics. And this games...almost nothing about Japan. I think I saw 2 events of the Japanese men's team, and they won silver!! You would think we should have seen more of them and their accomplishments/skill??

If not show the host team, maybe even show the bronze medalists? It would have been nice to even see the GB ladies' bronze routine, too, but nooo. What they kept on showing in-between the US and ROC events was a close up of Simone's expression or a slow-mo replay of Simone's vault. They even at one point played an actual montage of Simone's mistakes during the qualifications and the competition at St. Louis! Listen, the people in the US already knew what happened - either from social media, the news, or from watching the live stream. We only needed to see that vault once and move on.

And before someone cuts in with, "There was no time - the swimming events right after were live," I'm saying there would have been time to cover...y'know...actual gymnastics, if the network had decided not to shamelessly stick a camera in Simone's face in the hopes she would have a public breakdown or something.

Sooooo after I thoroughly lost my mind watching the masterpiece Jodhaa Akbar (my queue is now full of edits...coming to a dash near you), I decided that my need to see Aishwarya and Hrithik on my screen has not gone away...so I'm watching Dhoom 2! It looks really fun and silly, so I'm gonna liveblog my experience. Block the tag if you don't want to see my takes lol.
