funny that you ask because i've literally just finished reading heal by nenko and i am sooo so so into it you have no idea. it's arranged marriage au with jb but it's giving me batb vibes and i am very excited for it. actually i'll rec their other work-- Not lonely when you are here as well because it's really good.

anyway i'm still trying to read my way through the tag though, so my list isn't too long but here are a few that i've recently read and i've liked!

"You’re being silly Y/N. Jean and I are just friends.”

She was being silly. Yeah. That’s all. Logan and Jean are nothing more. Gods, could she be anymore ignorant? Did she have to play the dumb innocent girl just to keep him? If he really wanted her than he would have never needed to use his white lies. If she had just looked into his brown eyes she would have seen the guilt. That’s how it always was. She could always look into his eyes to see the truth.

Everyone said no one could tell if he was lying, but she could. His eyes always gave it away. It always did.

And perhaps she did know. Perhaps she just enjoyed being ignorant. Maybe she new that one day, she’d look back and laugh because of how funny it truly was. How funny everyone was. Seriously, the moment she and Logan broke it off. Called quits on their relationship, he went straight to Jean. Went to her for comfort. Maybe even in more ways than one.

Y/N always wonders if Jean was the same with Scott. Made a huge deal about her and Logan being friends. Betraying him the same way Logan betrayed her. Perhaps that was why Jean and Logan were here today. Standing across the way from Y/N and Scott, who was leaving to find something to drink with alcohol in it.

Both had their arms around each other. Much more affectionate than either had been with her or Scott. Hell, she even remembers Logan telling her he wasn’t much of an affection guy. She knew just how hard it was for him to fall for another person. He was always too scared that they would get hurt. It took her almost a year to get him to agree to go on a single date with him. Then another 6 months for him to agree to let others know about them.

But now here he was. Just over 2 weeks after their break up. Kissing Jean. Rubbing it in Y/N’s face that he moved on. That she was so ignorant and ignored all the signs.

It truly was funny. All the games he played with her. All the avoided questions. All the lying. The borderline guilt-tripping to make her believe she was just paranoid. She wished that she could go back to warn herself. Tell herself to think before she falls for him. Before she went to bed with him. Before all of it. So then she wouldn’t be standing here feeling betrayed.

That was what he did. He didn’t cheat. No. He did worse. He betrayed her. He talked to Jean in ways he should’ve talked to her. He gave her his word and yet here they were. 2 weeks and he was dating her. 

No. He didn’t cheat. But he was a traitor. Something that could never change.

fandoms i write for: atm it is pretty much just ASOIAF! Predominantly JB. Anyone else/any other ship is secondary, really. Back in the times before tumblr even existed I played in Merlin: Gwen/Arthur and then Gwen/Merlin after the show went to pot. And more recently but before I returned to tumblr, I wrote one Star Wars fic, a character study of Leia.

two-shot: I don’t think I’ve ever done a two-shot!

most popular multi-chapter: it’s not much (but my money’s on you) Which honestly is a complete surprise because I figured many folks would be entirely politicked out. But I love it and I’m glad it’s also working for some others 💕

actual worst part of writing: editingggggg. Why can’t it all come out right the first timeeeeeeeeeeee.

how you choose your chapter titles: i actually like choosing chapter/fic titles! Often I choose them around the beginning of writing, and so far it’s roughly split between song lyrics and a quote borrowed from the source material.

do you outline: For multi-chapters: ish…? Usually I get super excited, outline everything, then get to writing and the characters do/say something unanticipated or I get another idea/want to explore something else, and then the old outline gets pushed down the page as the top of the page fills with new details and ideas and character notes. Or as with the politics AU currently, the rewritten outline for the remainder of the fic is sitting at the bottom of the chapter 11 draft. I’ll also have additional outline notes scattered in various notebooks or apps on my phone or in emails to myself. At that point I know the shape of the story in my brain and typically work in 2-3 chapter chunks at a time.

For one-shots: heh, I started answering this one way and then came to a different conclusion. So the answer is yes, by a certain view on outlining. It isn’t a case of numbering or bullet points, but more like notes scattered down the page of what’s happening next or emotional beats to land. If it gets to the point where numbering and bullet points are needed, it typically then falls over into a multi-chapter... 

ideas I probably won’t get around to but wouldn’t it be nice: I have this crack fic I’ve been poking at for over a year whereby Brienne’s meant to be the honeypot but feels so awkward about it that Jaime takes over - that started out with them in law enforcement but moved into them as Robin Hood/Leverage-esque thieves. I did borrow a bit from the rough draft and expanded it out into a fic about their first kiss which I really like. There’s a lot about that concept I like (thieves! Brienne is desperately touch staved! Jaime is a heartsore shard! They steal Podrick! It’s mushy! Did I mention thieves???) But anyway it’s a whole lotta concepts and lacks a whole lotta plot, so. Never say never, but.

The other big one in this category is the book canon fic playing with the “but what if LSH has moved on by the time JB arrive at the (former) BWB camp?” thing I ramble about below. I’d say about 85% of that is written and every few months I pull it out and dust it off, so this one might one day come to be...? It’s mostly feelings anyway, tbh.

callouts @ me: I have not yet been called out by one of the masses, though confess I am sort of curious what someone might say! If I were calling myself out: probably things don’t need to be edited to within an inch of their lives maybe 🥴

best writing traits: I think I capture emotionality relatively well! And I like that I do fairly divergent things by way of story setting and theme. (Theme, ish. Almost all my fics can be boiled down to one central thesis but 😌😶‍🌫️)

spicy tangential opinion(s):

Lessee: poss my spiciest by way of diverging from what seems to be the agreed fanon is that I don’t think Brienne took to knighthood and swords just because her romantic dreams were squelched. I think she’s inherently inclined to both.

Second spiciest is perhaps that I agree with the fandom that a lot of Jaime’s gentleness got buried by his family BUT I think he was also always a bit sharp.

Aaaaand to round things out, I’ve got a nearly complete answered ask in my drafts wherein I talk myself into thinking that JB will *not* meet LSH immediately in Winds. I think LSH & co will have moved on by the time Brienne gets Jaime there, and that the ultimate confrontation will involve Arya as well, and possibly Sansa. BUT I caveat that my asoiaf reading and recollection is patchy so I’m open to discussion but, like, casual discussion haha 👀👻

1 - Please, dude. I always take fic recs, solicited or not. 

2 - Yeah why the hell does this fic have so little love? I’d never even heard of it (and I subscribe to anything people recommend). Is it because they have fifty couples tagged? I thought it was good. Even if you weren’t a PacRim fan, I think you’d like it. This is 100% a Jaime x Brienne AU, and they are unquestionably the center of the story.

Y/N didn’t really know what to do or say. There he was, after promising to never hurt her, he was breaking up with her. But after a few moments of silence, she nodded, “Alright.” She wiped away the tears that had fallen from her face. “Fine. Then this is goodbye Peter.” She turned on her heel and walked away. 

And as she walked away, Peter just stood there, staring at the spot that she just stood. It’s not that he wanted to do it, but it was the only thing he could do to keep her safe. Her being safe was more important than him getting what he wanted.

He sighed and turned, facing the large clock tower. He shook his head and stuck his hands into his jacket pockets and walked back to Aunt May’s apartment.

When he got there, he unlocked the door, and walked in, immediately smelling Aunt May’s so-so cooking. He slipped off his jacket and placed it on the coat hanger. He walked further in and heard his Aunt’s voice, “Peter? Is that you?”

He walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge and grabbed a water, “Yeah.”

“Is Y/N with you? Or will she be joining us later? I mean, this dinner is to celebrate her going to Oxford.”

He turned and faced her back. Scratching his head he shrugged, “I don’t think so. I-uh...I don’t think that she’s gonna come over any time soon.”

Aunt May quickly turned back, “And why is that?”

“I uh…” He sighed and looked down, “I broke up with her.”

Quickly he heard the sound of the stove turning off and heard her walking closer to him. “Peter, what happened?”

Tears pricked his eyes, “I had to do it to keep her safe.”

He felt her arms wrap around him, “Oh Peter, always doing what he can to keep people safe, even if he isn’t happy.” She rubbed his back lightly, “Are you sure you wanted to do this?”

“If I didn’t, then Hobgoblin would come after her and I can’t do that. I-I can’t put her in that situation.”

“But she knows that you’re Spider-Man.”

“I know, but...I do feel better knowing that there’s a chance that she may be safe by no longer dating me and living in Oxford.”

“Only if that’s what you want.”

And even though he was lying, he still said it, “It is.”

Two weeks had passed had he hadn’t seen or heard from Y/N. He also hadn’t heard from Ned—Hobgoblin. It hurt not seeing her. That was why he was doing what he was doing. That’s why he was standing outside her apartment door.

Her mother opened the door and nearly shut it on him, but he spoke quickly. “Please, I just need to talk to Y/N.”

Her mother stiffly spoke, “She’s not here.”

Peter felt his heart drop, because he knew she wasn’t lying. “Where is she?”

“On her way to be something that she wouldn’t have done if you hadn’t broken up with her.”

And when her mother said that, he knew exactly where she was. He turned back and ran up to the roof of the complex. Clicking the button on his watch, he jumped off the side and swung all the way to MJ’s. Knowing she would go to her before she left. 

When he landed in the alley next to it, clicked the button again, and ran out to the street. Stopping when he saw Y/N standing on the sidewalk on her phone. “Y/N.”

She looked over and gave him a small smile. “Peter.”

“I’m sorry.”

She raised an eyebrow. “What?”

He let out a shaky breath, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done it. I shouldn’t have broken up with you. I kept telling myself that it was to keep you safe, but I—”

She placed a finger on his lips, shutting him up, and moved it to where her hand cradled his face. “It’s okay. I figured that was why.” She pulled her hand away. “I just wish you had told me sooner.”

Anxiety filled him, “Why?”

“There was an earlier class that I was offered to take so I’m leaving for the airport like…now.”

“Then I’ll go with you! I’ll take money from my fund from Tony!”

“Peter, what about Hobgoblin? The Avengers? New York?”

“They can wait!”

“Peter, I don’t want you to stop being Spider-Man for me. I’ll go to Oxford and you’ll stay here. Besides, I think that this is just what we need to take our own paths.” Her mother’s car pulled up beside them. “This is my ride. I have to take it.” She sighed before she left, looking down she spoke softly, “I’m sorry Peter. I really truly am, but this is the right thing to do. It’s what needs to happen so we don’t get hurt.”

For a few moments, he watched as she drove away, but after a few he turned and walked away from everything. His hands were stuffed into his pockets and as he walked back to the apartment he stopped. And Peter had no clue why he did it, but he stopped and looked at the clock tower and quickly ran, changing into his Spider-Man suit and swung to Manhattan Bridge. He swung and connected the webs spell out “I Love You”. And he knew exactly where she’d be so he swung down and grabbed her. 

Pulling her to the next bridge he stopped them on top, “Did you see my message?”

“What message? Cause I don’t remember any message.”

“Really? It’s right there.”

She smiled and looked over, “It’s kinda hard to make out.”

“I love you. I always have. I broke up with you because I thought that it was what needed to happen for you to stay safe, but it isn’t. I-I-I know you and I know that you didn’t mean what you said. You would have looked at me if you meant it. You always look at people when you say something like that and mean it. If you don’t then you look away because you don’t want them to know that you’re lying.”

“Peter--”

He stopped her, “No. I can go to Oxford. They have crime there. They-they have Jack the Ripper.”

“Oh? They do, do they?” 

“Yeah! Did you know that they never caught him?”

“No, I didn’t know.”

“Well yeah. They didn’t.”

“Wow.”

He sniffed, “I love you Y/N and I can’t live without you. And I know that sounds manipulative, but I promise it’s not.”

She leaned up and kissed him. After a few moments she pulled away, but brought her hand to caress his face, “I love you Peter Parker.”

He smiled softly, “And I love you Y/N Y/L/N.”

She leaned up to kiss him again but instead he felt her get ripped out of his arms. He looked and saw Ned--Hobgoblin holding her. He smirked and flew away saying, “Catch me if you can Peter.”

Peter quickly got his mask on and swung behind, trying to catch up to Hobgoblin and Y/n. Only stopping when he reached the clock tower that they were over. “Let her go, Ned! Please it’s me that you’re mad at! Not her! Please just let her go!”

“Fine.” He held her out and dropped her.

Peter quickly grabbed her but due to where she was dropped they fell through the glass and fell onto the catwalk above the gears of the clock. As he was on his back and was what hit the ground, he held back a groan of pain. “Y/N? Are you okay?”

She shook her head and whimpered a “no”. But before he could do anything, he heard a clunk next to them and by the time he looked over, the loud bang already happened and they fell again. But this time she slipped out of his grip, but he was quickly able to grab her. He held her hand before wrapping the web around her wrist and putting her on one of the gears. “Y/N, stay here, I’ll be b--” Before he could finish his sentence, he was grabbed and was plunged into a wall. 

He shook his head and got up. 

The next moments were a blur. All that Peter could remember was catching and pulling Y/N up after she had fallen and then him trying to push Hobgoblin off of him. But now all that was happening felt like it was in slow motion. He heard the snap of the web and heard her gasp. He looked down and saw her falling. He pushed Ned away and jumped down to catch her. He clicked the button for the webs to shoot out and he watched as they went down to him. And the minute it caught onto her, he grabbed the metal bar that was coming up and held himself so the web could steady her. He connected the web to the pole and jumped down to the floor.

Peter slowly walked to her and deep down he already knew he was too late when he saw her limply hanging there. He took his mask off and lifted her, “Hey,” His voice was shaky, “Hey Y/N.” He cut off the web and then sunk down to his knees, holding her tightly. “Hey, hey. Y/N?” He fell further to the ground. He let out a sob, “Y/N?” His eyes began to burn as the tears pricked in his eyes. “Come on now, breathe. Please. Please just breathe.” His shaky hand moved hair out of her face and then moved his hand, unsure of where to place it. “Hey, you’re okay.” He lightly shook her, “Come on. Stay with me. Stay with me. Please stay with me.” He kept repeating it, even with it barely being audible. He shakily sobbed when he saw the blood trickle out of her nose, “Y/N. No. Please, please.” He pulled her closer as he cried. “I’m sorry.”

Another fic downloaded onto my Kindle to encourage me to actually sit down and read. This Pacific Rim fusion is absolutely brilliant. Pacific Rim is a super underrated sci-fi/action movie, and Jaime and Brienne's stories flawlessly intertwine with the backdrop of giant monsters and semi-sentient robots. The action is super exciting and the physical and emotional relationship between our two heroes is so compelling. Wonderful work,  @nossbean!!

It takes two weeks after that for him to find a way to bridge the gap between them. He’d seen her speaking with Renly Baratheon, and Jaime had never seen anyone go so moon-eyed and tongue-tied than Brienne in that moment. And over Renly. Baratheon. of all people. Jaime nearly laughs at her, watching her struggle to string together a sentence longer than three words. Except then he’s struck by genius.

He offers to teach her to chat with men. She asks how that would work — and Jaime isn’t a foolish man, but for the briefest moment, he nearly says, “Obviously because you will be speaking with me, and I am a man.”

He doesn’t. Still somehow he manages to get her to say yes, and so with a begrudging Brienne who creates a schedule for them, and a mostly only amused Jaime who agrees to said schedule because he thinks it’s hilarious, they begin to have regular, time constrained chats in their own shared bedroom as though they don’t incidentally spend time together for the majority of every day, and in which Jaime pretends to be a woman who is in turn pretending to be a man.
