To celebrate the start of the school year, and say farewell to our hardworking summer intern, Christina Dabek (@christiedab), #studiopotterjournal is putting on a back-to-school back-issue sale!  Members can buy any available print back issue for a mere $5, rather than the usual $10. For non-members it's $8, instead of the normal $15. Nearly seventy-five different volumes of our hefty print issue journals spanning nearly fifty years of ceramics history are on sale. Click the link in our bio ⤴️ to read more, or go to studiopotter.org/archive to shop! Left image: Poster-cover of Vol.9, No. 1, 1980. (Yes, you can still buy that issue!) #ceramicsresearch #ceramicshistory #amazingarchives #studioceramics #studiopotter #summerceramicssale #ourintersareawesome https://www.instagram.com/p/B1zahtzgDu5/?igshid=1bwzqu2ace9xo

For the Spring 2018 semester I am doing an Independent Research Study focusing on American Federal Era Stoneware Pottery. I’ll be sourcing local clay in order to make reproductions of 19th century pottery! The work I create this semester will be available at the Poplar Hill Festival, Saturday June 23rd. Stay tuned to see my progress over the course of the semester! . . . . . #pottery #potterywheel #independentstudy #independentresearchstudy #arthistory #ceramics #ceramicshistory #potterystudio #undergraduateresearch #19thcentury #localclay #localpottery #localartist #handmade #poplarhillmansion #workinprogress #createtolive #americanfolkart #stoneware #stonewarecrocks #antiquestoneware #federalera #nineteenthcentury (at Salisbury, Maryland)

It's a big holiday today, but clay knows no boundaries. We all come together in ceramics! Thus a beautiful ceramic shard wreath by Israeli born artist @zemerpeledart, blue and white originating from early Chinese (Tang and Song dynasties) artists using Persian cobalt. Blue and white then evolved through Islamic tin glazed ware into European variations. #happyholidays #ceramicshistory #ceramicartcommunity #socialclay #ncecafever

#ceramicshistory The lost Kennedy daughter has been making the news lately, thanks to two new books. Rosemary Kennedy was lobotomized by her father at age 23, permanently disabling her. She spent the rest of her life institutionalized. Part of her therapy was ceramics lessons, which helped her regain some motor function over the years. #clayistheway
