Babar: Arthur's Problem - Chapter 4
As soon as Arthur's eyes were closed shut, he was suddenly met by utter darkness when they were reopened. Confused, he started to pace around, searching for something familiar.
“What is this place?” Arthur could have questioned where his lisp was, or why his vision wasn’t like looking through a dirty glass but he had more things to worry about in that moment.
"CELESTE, FLORA, ALEXANDER, POM, BABAR! ANYBODY?!" He yelled at the top of his lungs, trying to get the attention of someone. Anyone! But it was no use, because he never received a response back. After being alone with his thoughts for a moment, he came to a striking realization.
“Wait, oh lord, am I… dead?!”

you think you can do quadruple jake before he met cornelius. it could be like a parallel to how babar walked on fours before he met madame
Sure, I tried my best.
I drew him while he was in the care of the lions, He probably learned to walk on all fours for a while, since they're wild animals.
Took a bit to find the episode that had his outfit that he was wearing when he was with the lions/before he arrived in Celesteville.

Babar Rataxes Theory
I had a theory about Rataxes, everybody’s favourite rhino from the 1990′s cartoon ‘Babar’. In the 1989 Babar Movie, Rataxes not only looks physically different than he does in the TV series that followed, but I noticed in the film that his behaviour is much more violent. The Rataxes in the TV series might’ve been a jerk but he was at his best kindhearted. In the TV series his genuine apology to Basil for making him lie about rescuing Isabelle, his balloon elephant doll he makes for Flora to cheer her up, his participation in saving the jungle from the hunter and his love for his family are a sharp contrast to the Rataxes in the earlier film. In the earlier film, Rataxes isn’t just a bit of a jerk, he’s downright evil. He has his men burning down houses, dragging elephants out and tying them in chains, throwing Celeste (who was only a child at the time) down a water well, shooting at Cornelius and Pompadour and threatening to kill Babar and his friends. While the TV series Rataxes could be quite cold and mean, he never went out of his way to do anything that he knew would severely hurt the elephants (except sawing apart the bridge in “The Celesteville Express”, and even then he was only trying to stop the train; he had no idea that Cornelius and Pompadour were trapped on it).
My theory is that the Rataxes in the 1989 film wasn’t in fact the Rataxes from the TV series, but instead his father. It’s just a thought, but not too far-fetched; Babar and Celeste were only children in the film, so it’s presumable that the TV series Rataxes would be, too. Instead he is portrayed as a grown adult in the film. His personality, voice and looks are very different from the TV series Rataxes. Basil, Lady Rataxes and Victor are not present in the film. If the more violent film version Rataxes was the father of the Rataxes from the TV series, it might also explain where the TV series Rataxes got his angry, jerky side - growing up with his father could’ve influenced his behaviour, but perhaps his own moral code told him it was wrong to hurt others and, unlike in the film, he knew where to draw the line. I know the two characters are supposed to be the same Rataxes, but I just personally assumed until recently that Rataxes’s father was in the film, not Rataxes himself.

Danielle Walkernoceros is my Babar OC or rhinoceros persona. My own rhino form of myself. She genuinely has the biggest crush ever on Lord Rataxes, and never stop thinking about him all the time. Danielle loves to draw, taking naps inside Rataxes, and solving problems with her smarter thoughts to stop from their horrific situations.
Where does Danielle Sleep?
She always sleeps inside Rataxes' mouth due to her comforts, protection, and transportation. She sleeps on the back of his tongue where its close to the throat. She uses his uvula is used as a body pillow, she likes to hanging on to it and she never want to get down. She enjoys being inside his mouth, she never wants to leave until she's ready to get out. The only reason why inside mouths comforts better, because she would never wanted to sleep in ordinary beds, because it wasn't comfortable enough to rest herself and not good enough to sleep.
Why is Danielle wearing Diapers?
Because wearing a diaper of hers is one of her biggest comforts, since she decides to use it for her own solution. Diapers can be important for her to wear it for keeping herself comfortable, feeling about to be calm-wise with the mood she likes to enjoy so often. The only kind of clothing that covers her diaper on is her skirt, which it makes her looks is the one of the only outfit features that fits her. Pants or shorts does not comfort her while her diaper was on. About going in publics, it was the time where she wants to explore in nature or someplace without restrooms. The only kind of diaper she wears is a disposable diaper that comforts her the most, except with printed patterns on them. About wearing an underwear, it doesn't work to comfort her because it nothing feels like a diaper. Danielle loves wearing diapers for her living as long she stays comfortable for her peaceful mood.
Who is Danielle's absolute crush?
Lord Rataxes is her biggest crush. She has been thinking about him as her bestie, which he is definitely one of her biggest comfort. Every time she wanted to see him in-person, she always feel beloved, super-hyped, and adore to him due to his royal-self. Danielle keeps drawing pictures of himself in artworks which how much she always be so happy for him becoming impressed with her fantastic artwork displayed by hanging on walls. While visiting Celesteville, she was convinced to be spying on him until her risk to save Lord Rataxes' life from terrible situations. For the first time, she feels so nervous about meeting him in close-up. Later, she is no longer scared of him anymore, he became to be best friends with her, and hired her as his chief advisor replacement.
Where did she live?
She currently lives in her own pyramid shaped house in Rhinoland. When she was a baby back in 2001, her father passed away from the plane crashed into the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks. And her mother was being abusive to her own daughter, she kicked her out of her house and abandon her. She ends up walking away finding herself her new home, until she discovered Lord Rataxes' Palace and en empty house where nobody lives, others who lived in this house has died from the poachers shot them multiple times and loses their horns. She finally owns her house, that is officially her new home.
Fun Facts:
Danielle loves to do artwork while focusing on her comforts.
Her favorite foods are pineapple Dole whips, bacon, deviled eggs, chicken nuggets, french fries, mashed and baked potatoes, mangoes, shrimp and pasta, vanilla bean ice cream, and Cadbury creme eggs.
Her main theme color is Aqua-Blue/Turquoise
Rhinoceros is Danielle's major favorite animal. However, black rhinos is the only kind.
She loves to explore museums, art galleries, royal palaces, beaches, nature, zoos, and shopping malls.
Her fears are loud noises, spiders, thunderstorms, and large amount of crowds.
Tarzan is her only favorite Disney movie, although she remembers the lyrics of 2 songs from the film, "Two Worlds" and "Son of Man". She always remembered to learn about the information from this film.
She loves to listen to music while working on her artwork or on a car ride. Her favorite music genres are big bands and jazz.
Tank tops and skirts are her main features of her outfit, preferring to wear spaghetti strap crop tank tops and skater/flat skirts.

I've decided to make a bunch of fake sports teams for the 2 main countries in Babar. Rhino Land and CelesteVille
South Pach is the college basketball team for the city of Celesteville. Also, known as SoPach.
North Pach is the college basketball team for the state of Rhino Land. They are rivals of South Pach and are also known as NoPach or NorthPack.

Children’s book characters to explore:
While exploring different sources to built up my essay, I have come across a handful of characters that should be explored further. One of my points, is to look at understanding when the character was created and who by. To help build my understanding of this, I compiled notes that focus on the author and context of each character that has frequently popped up in my research so far.
The cat in the hat:
Fig 1: Dr. Seuss, 1957, The cat in the hat, Penguin Random House, London
Dr. Seuss is a pseudonym - real name: Theodor Seuss Geisel
Born 1904, in Massachusetts, USA
In 1925, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College
originally found success in advertising
During WWII, he created a lot of propaganda films and illustrations
Grew fame after writing and illustrating - ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and ‘Green Eggs and Hat’
Later books fought bullying, stereotypes and racism but earlier books have been thought to be more controversial
An example of his controversial illustrations: Seuss used offensive stereotypes to caricature the Japanese in his cartoons (1942)
“Not many people know that when he first drew Yertle (the turtle), it had a Hitler moustache, so Yertle was Hitler,” Richard Minear tells BBC Culture
Dr. Seuss kept the origins of his stories secret and threw people of by telling many different stories about how “The Cat in the Hat” originated. He wrote two essays with different origin stories, which were published in the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune on the same day.
Curious George:
Fig 2: H. A. Rey, 1941, Curious George - Jorge el curioso, HMH Books, Boston
Hans Augusto Rey was born 1898, in Hamburg, Germany
He served in the army in WWI
Studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg
The manuscript was written while living in France before escaping the Nazis in 1940 days before Paris was taken over.
Curious George was published in 1941 while living in America
George was originally named Fifi
Along with the original - the Reys published six more Curious George adventures
“Hans and Margret Rey fit into this discussion - of those assimilating into American culture - because as Jewish immigrants they lacked national identity” (Roper, M. 2008)
William Moebius debated in 1985 that Curious George could be re-interpreted as a slave narrative
Babar:
Fig 3: Jean De Brunhoff, A.A. Milne, 1937, The story of Babar the little elephant, Methuen Children's Books, London
Jean de Brunhoff was born 1899, in France
He also wrote and illustrated six stories about Babar + an alphabet book featuring the character
He was was trained as a painter
Brunhoff also fought in WWI and joined the French army
Historie de Babar, le petit elephant was published in 1931 and then and English version was published in 1933
While Brunhoff died in 1937, his son Laurent continued writing stories with Babar as the main character
Some interpreters have insisted that the first Babar story is an allegory of French colonization
“You ride the elevator, dress up in the green suit, and go to live in Celesteville, but an animal you remain” (Gopnik, A. 2008)
“The child - has come into contact with an implicit history that justifies and rationalizes the motives behind an international situation in which some countries have everything and other countries almost nothing” (Dorfman, A. 1983)

I keep making weird comics, and now you have to suffer the consequences of my actions
Zephir's here asking the real questions.
Because if Cornelius is considered to be Babar's surrogate/adoptive father, and he's in the same position for Jake. Then would that make Jake, Babar's baby brother? I think yes!
Because it makes sense in my book!
Watch out Arthur! You're not the only Great Uncle for Badou, and Lulu, in Celesteville!

Welcome to target celesteville. Walmart rhino land.
Babar
Lost in the big city, Babar is brought into a Starbucks by an elderly woman, who teaches him how to order coffee in the properly metropolitan way. He likes to order trentas, though he often wishes there was something bigger. Babar spends most of his time there, sitting quietly in the corner and trying not to get in anyone’s way. When his family finds him and brings him home, Babar decides that the first and most important thing he can do for the elephants is to open a new link in the Starbucks chain. The elephants make Babar their king.
