i want to say the wildest thing about wish is that disney fully funded and released a movie where the bad guy could basically be a metaphor for the disney company. but it's even wilder because they funded and released it as their celebratory 'we're 100 years old and we're soooo great' movie. and what's even wilder than that is that their 'we're 100 years old and we're so great movie', which features a bad guy who is basically a metaphor for their company, was a flop

YES YES yes specially por the first villain couple!!! We were robed of such story!!! And mirrod it with Asha falling in love with the stars uuuhhhaaanhahahajdkkdkdhdb I WOULD LOVE A STORY LIKE THAT!!!!!!
Tumblr media
Honestly, this make me so sad. I would have preferred this story so much. THIS feels like a love letter to Disney's past. I'm sure others will have their opinions on it. But this pretty much sums up mine.
(I kinda hope they'll do a remake someday with this instead. That's probably wishful thinking. But hey! I can dream. Lol.)

So, in the $1300 Disney advent calendar (celebrating 100 years of Disney... and this adventure calendar is so not worth it, btw, I watched a video on it), they have random crystal stars in it... that don't tie to Disney at all. And a part of me wants to try and save it and say they're supposed to be paopu fruits, but we all know they aren't. LOL

Ryan Adamczeski at The Advocate:
After Target made the decision to drop diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, Minnesota's largest Pride festival decided to drop them as a sponsor. Now, Twin Cities Pride has more funding than they started with. Target issued a memo on Friday announcing the end of its three-year DEI goals, including its Racial Equity Action and Change (REACH) program and "all external diversity-focused survey’s including HRC’s Corporate Equality index.” The Human Rights Campaign effort, which provides benchmarks on corporate policies relevant to LGBTQ+ employees, previously gave Target a score of 100 percent, dubbing the company a “Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion." In response, the largest Pride organization in Minnesota and the largest free Pride celebration in the United States, Twin Cities Pride, announced this week that it would be dropping Target as a sponsor for its 2025 events. The company had initially pledged $50,000, and had been involved in Pride celebrations for around two decades.
[...] Target was not backing down on its $50,000 pledge, but Otto says that TCP and their allies still saw the move as a betrayal, as the company is "taking away safety for the community not only in their employees, but in their suppliers." As the community was "looking to us to hold them accountable," TCP's board made the decision to remove Target as a sponsor. "This isn't about the money," Otto says. "Because if the money wasn't there, would we even be questioning this decision? The answer is no. The reality of it is, is that it's the right thing to do for our community." The end of DEI programs and LGBTQ+ inclusivity initiatives marks a significant shift for the Minnesota-based company, which once withstood protests from hate groups over its inclusive bathroom policies and Pride displays. However, the change was not sudden, as Target pulled some of its Pride Month merchandise in 2023 amid threats and violent protests in stores.
[...] Companies' willingness to abandon the LGBTQ+ community contributes to the long-standing debate among activists over "Rainbow Capitalism," which refers to the trend of companies marketing to or profiting off the queer community without meaningfully supporting them. Examples include Disney using a rainbow logo while cancelling or censoring LGBTQ+ projects, Netflix claiming to support LGBTQ+ people while hosting Dave Chapelle's harmful jokes about transgender people, or Target scaling back Pride displays after pressure from extremists despite decades of precedent.
With Target abandoning its once-stellar support for the LGBTQ+ community by dropping DEI, Twin Cities Pride not only ousted them from sponsorship but raised more money.

Wish man,,,,just makes me sad bc it FEELS like a lot of creative and talented people wanted to tell a unique story, but at every turn The Big Man kept twisting and turning their material to be as safe and sanitized as possible for focus groups,,,,
Tumblr media
the team originally wanted it to be 2D animation to celebrate Disney's 100 years of filmmaking, but were told it'd be too limiting (thanks for firing a bunch of the 2D animators back in 2013, Disney) and to change it to the standard CGI
every concept idea that was changed made the film worse/more generic
ex. potential shapeshifting star boy character became head empty blobby mascot that would probably sell well as a toy
ex. ROYAL VILLAINOUS COUPLE (THE FUCKING SLAY THIS COULD'VE BEEN??? THE "FUCK EVERYONE BUT MY WONDERFUL S/O" DYNAMIC???) changed to evil man with holier than thou good wife (that is immediately ok with kicking him to the dungeon for being evil with no hesitation at the end lol)
hiring pop song writers for an animated musical picture
Like
You can just SMELL the interference from the higher ups???

It's Mickey Mouse's birthday once again, which means it's time for my annual Mickey tribute piece. With Epic Mickey Rebrushed being released this year, it was only natural that Epic Mickey be the focus for this year (I had already done a tribute for Epic Mickey 2 back in 2022 for that game's 10th anniversary).
However, to be honest I was actually pretty stumped while making this. The original Epic Mickey is one of my favorite games of all time, it would later provide heavy inspiration for my webcomic Think Ink, so I wanted to do it justice, but it was a struggle for me as to what to include in this piece.
Do I try to include all of the locations into one picture? Do I focus more on the choices angle with Mickey relying on either paint or thinner? Do I focus on the relationship between Mickey and Oswald? It was hard to figure out what could best represent the whole game because there's so much in that game. It eventually got so overwhelming that I didn't work on this until the 17th, one day before Mickey's anniversary.
Sometimes that last minute rush can help you best make a decision, so I decided to focus on the Blot here. In addition I tried to match the Mary Blair inspired look of the game's cutscenes.
One touch I really love here is using the original poster for "Steamboat Willie" as the ground the characters stand on here. Somehow Mickey, Oswald, and Gus standing on (or in Gus' case, floating over) Walt Disney and Ub Iwerk's credits feels very fitting.
Happy 96th Anniversary Mickey! Only 4 more and you'll hit the big 100 (hopefully it will be a better celebration than your studio's 100th).
