Your alarm wakes you up in the early morning, your hand fishing for the phone sitting on your side table. You turn it off and sigh. A long day is ahead of you. After weeks of resumes and interviews and long nights staring at your laptop, you finally landed a job at a good university. You reluctantly slide out of bed and make your way to the bathroom. You brush your teeth and wash your face, deciding on minimal makeup for your first day. Eldia University was prestigious, you knew that. You were lucky you were able to land this job. Now all you had to do was keep it. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Your black pencil skirt hugs your hips well as you tuck in the peach blouse you bought the day before. You slip on your black pumps and throw your handbag over your shoulder. You woke up a bit earlier than anticipated, so you decided to treat yourself to a latte.

The sky was clear and blue, a good omen for your first day on the job. The start of a new semester was always nerve wracking for both student and teacher. New students with ambitious dreams pour in through the gates of the university. You smile knowing you’d get to be apart of these students lives, even if your encounters are nothing beyond a “good morning.”

You check in at the front desk, receiving your teacher id and paperwork. As you turn to walk out the door, your shoulder brushes harshly against someone else’s.

“Excuse me.” You say apologetically.

“It’s fine.” The man replies, his eyes staring straightforward. He seems harsh...wonder what he teaches.

You make your way through the building towards the lecture hall, feeling a few hormonal eyes on you. You didn’t mind it too much, the way they watched the sway of your hips, your heels clacking with every step you take. But you had a job to do, so you walked with purpose. All the way to the lecture hall that would soon become your second home.

The halls and corridors fill with students, and the doors to your classroom opened. Fresh faces find seats, as you sit behind your desk waiting for the the clock to indicate the start of class. The quiet murmurs die down, and you take your place behind the podium.

“Welcome everyone, I’m professor y/n, and this is anthropology 101. We won’t be going over any material today, just the syllabus, so i’ll be letting you out early.”

You observe content smiles in the crowd and small celebrations of the grain of mercy you were giving them on their first day.

You give your halfhearted “lecture” and release the undergraduates to attend to their other classes. You were never a fan of homework on the first day and when you first started teaching it felt inevitable, but you found a way around it, deciding to give them a little leeway.

You step out of the hall, eager to catch a bite to eat, when you run into the same man from earlier.

“Oh..you again. Sorry I bumped into you earlier that was rude of me-”

“Like I said, it’s fine.” He responds, this time looking you dead in the eye. He was on the shorter side, but his presence was dominating. Somehow you felt smaller...

A few more days pass, the same faces showing up each day, somehow eager to learn. Either they were eager to learn about the science of humanity, or they were eager to learn about it from you.

A particular pair of eyes catch your attention. The young boy ignores the notes on the projector, opting to stare at the way your body moves as you pace up and down the stage. A short haired girl nudges him in his side and points to the screen, immediately bringing his attention to the bullet points he hasn’t written down.

“Eren are you paying attention?” The short haired girl asks.

“Yes...kind of...it’s hard ok! I didn’t expect the prof to...I don’t know look like that!”

“Get your head out of your pants and pay attention, we have our first exam soon and I need my notes so you can’t borrow them again.”

“Geez ok ok.”

“Mikasa be quiet!” A blonde haired boy whispers.

The short haired girl silently apologizes, noticing the eyes on her and the other boy.

Your last class for the day finally ends and the students make their way back to the dorms. A few stay behind, waiting to ask you for answers to questions that will be in the upcoming exam. The two disruptive ones make their way through the line and down to your desk.

“Excuse me professor, I didn’t understand what this question is asking for, where could I find it in the textbook.” The young girl asks, pushing her textbook towards you. You flip to the page and point to the section she needs to read.

“It should be right here.” You answer with a smile. You can’t help but notice the way the boy behind her stares at you.

“Do you have a question as well?” You ask, your attention turning from the textbook to the boy.

“Uh- no! No ma’am...just came with Mikasa is all.” He answers, obviously caught off guard.

“Are you two anthropology majors?” You ask the pair.

“I am, but Eren is still undecided.” The girl named Mikasa answers.

“Well Mikasa, I’m glad to hear you’re interested in this field. You seem like a very bright young lady. And Eren, I hope you enjoy this class regardless of what major you end up choosing.”

Eren’s eyes widen as he nods his head. The way you smile at him sending butterflies rushing through his stomach. You chuckle, glad that you still had that effect on students. It was harmless flirting, you think to yourself. Nothing would really happen.
