happy new year time for me to bother you with a TRAILER for my short animated film about a mars mission 🎉
surprise I have cobbled together shots I have done from my [traditional] animation I'm working on along with a TEST recording (which is why it sounds like it's being recorded in a toilet that is also a cathedral) of some of the music clips. I tried to edit it like a Real TM Trailer but the pacing is a little weird bc it's a silent film sorry
OK LOTTA BACKGROUND INFO UNDER THE CUT
So if you haven't seen my other posts, I sort of have this thing for doing projects I know damn well shouldn't be done by Just Me however if there's 3 things I enjoy it's exacerbating my wrist problems, traditional animation, and social isolation so last year to get my mind of the trash fire of an election season I bought a bunch of cels and paint and started working on this short film. It's gonna be maybe 10-15 minutes when done and, aside from a handful of tweaks*, it is all traditional 2d animation - hand drawn AND painted (which is why the frame rate makes even the recycled clips in 80s he-man cringe) .
Anyway if you didn't gather from the intertitles, this [a FICTIONAL STORY WHERE EVERYONE IS FICTIONAL PLEASE NO ONE SUE ME] is about the US and Russia collaborating on a mission to Mars where they're gonna send some folks up there to hang out and do research indefinitely until another mission happens. While the crew - comprised of an astronaut Adam and a cosmonaut Yuri - is in transit, war breaks out between the US and Russia back on earth, snapping the ever tightening rubberband of willing cooperation between the countries. Everything goes to hell, and in this case it also threatens to compromise the mission, meaning an uncertain future for the crew, who have to choose between loyalty to the death cult of blind nationalism, or loyalty to science and each other.
I am aiming to finish this in 2025...The story has been in the works for a while, but I only recently felt like "huh I kinda wanna animate this"
Im sorry the music is so....Like That lol. I wanted to get this done today before I go back to work and like I don't think anyone who follows me really minds if it's not perfect rn. See I only have a keyboard at the moment and I was trying to do an aux cable from it to my laptop to keep from recording the UNMANAGEABLE CLOMPCLOMPCLOMPITYCLOMPPP of the keys but it just made the sound toilety uhg oh well. Anyway I am writing some original stuff for the eventual whole film, but for this trailer I arranged some snippets of Tchaikovsky's sleeping beauty for piano (the score is in the public domain fyi...My arrangement is my own...). I've got some other bits of that in the works as well which will also show up in the full film.
Oh another thing is, most of the technical stuff should be fairly grounded in science (maybe aside from some Artistic License Engineering for story/ease of animation reasons, but....). So there's that. I don't think it makes much of a difference for the trailer but IM TELLING YOU BECAUSE I DID SIT THERE AND PAINSTAKINGLY RUN A FUCKING ORBIT PROPAGATION ALGORITHM TO BALLPARK WHERE THE SHIP SHOULD BE AT CERTAIN POINTS IN THE NARRATIVE AND YOU WILL KNOW I SUFFERED. FOR YOU, THE AUDIENCE.
*full disclosure by tweaks I mean stuff it's barely noticeable to you but impractical for me bc cels are REALLY expensive, so stuff like blinking and mouth movements I drew in photoshop because that's probably 100s of mouth-or-eye cels I can't really afford to waste, and you can only scratch paint off and reuse a cel so many times before it looks like crap. Some of the panning I also did by scanning the hand drawn cels and then changing the subject position in photoshop for each frame because I'm compositing frames essentially by sticking them face down in a stack on my scanner bed and haven't found a good way to do it yet. I've attempted to built a little track before but can't get it flat enough for the cover to make contact with the frames and smash them into the glass. If you have a solution for this, let me know.
anyway the target audience of this is people who liked Apollo 13 but wished it was worse quality and was more gay and anarchist so if you are vaguely that please enjoy and follow for updates on this costly and questionable venture

I wish you’d write Cel-rond reunion! Snip but I would kill for a full length one from you!
oooh i loved doing this snippet, thanks so much and sorry in advance for what you’re about to read — also, not smut at all but references sex. re: a proper fic, hmmm, I’m not very good at vignettes so might do it if i can think up an actual plot haha
The Just-in-Case
“Are you telling me,” Cel raises her eyebrows, simultaneously impressed, bemused and sympathetic, as if Elrond was a particularly precocious sacrificial lamb. “That this isn’t because you’re sorrowing or overwhelmed or even simply happy to see me, but that you
 came so hard you cried?”
My Cel was exactly what Arda needed, and she knew that better than anyone. What Arda needed was rose-coloured glasses. What it needed was someone willing to look at the unbearable truth and still keep trying. And that’s who my Cel was: someone who would stroke every sharp edge of the world.
“It’s not as simple as that,” complains Elrond, turning away from her with a mock-huff, drawing the sheet over his shoulder and wiping his face with it. “You make it sound like a feral animal response, Cel. Like I’m a dog that defecated upon itself out of joy. Always you reduce me to —”
My Cel was like that. My Cel once told me, at the fall of the Alliance, that change isn’t forged by good people but through good deeds. That a single act of kindness from the most irredeemable sinner has the potential to change the world.
“Tears?” she grins, pinching the tip of his ear. “Well, all right then. Tell me. What is it? And please note that if you mention dogshite again when we’re both naked, I’ll drown you in the duckpond, kinslaying be damned.”
My Cel gave everything she had — her time, her heart, her life — trying to find beauty in even the most marred corners. My Cel fought a battle too big for any one person to win because she believed someone had to try. And when she lost, she picked up the pieces, scattered them like seeds so something might grow in the cracks.
“It’s
”
He can’t really put words to it, now that he’s trying to. There are very few words for the way sunlight drapes over her curves like a blanket and covers him too, pricking and burning, comforting all the same. The tree frogs and crickets and other green things outside their window. Or how there just isn’t enough room in his body for this much love and he feels like he might burst at the seams. His sighs shaped around her name: Cel, like a prayer, Cel, like a sin, Cel, because she feels so good in his mouth.
Manic self-assuredness, blue eyes, bleeding into each other like soil and loam. How ridiculously real she looked, so unlike all his other ghosts, those vague spectres that resembled each other more than their namesakes. Elrond had held out till the third time he took her, it was only then that every single fraying thread holding him together split all at once under her fingers, leading to this final, complete unravelling.
My Cel’s work was unfinished, and that breaks me. It will always break me. But if the measure of a life is not what is completed, but what is set in motion, then she was greater than any of us will ever be. I am confident our world will catch up with her vision of it someday. That one day, Arda will deserve the love my Cel unconditionally bestowed upon it. I only wish it had loved her back in turn.
Or perhaps the tears had always been lurking there, relics of the life he lived without her, biding their time like glass-shards in clear water. Whatever it is, Elrond knows he cannot explain it to her. Can you blame him? How do you tell someone that the auditory accompaniment to your intimate reunion was the just-in-case eulogy you wrote for her five hundred years ago?
And so Elrond only laughs softly, turning back to her: “you’re right, you win — I came so hard I cried.”

1, 3, 4, 8, 23, 30, and/or 33 for Margim and Celeair, if any of these tickle your fancy?
ooh ok! that's a lot lol, but these look fun!
1."are they associated with a certain color? what color do they wear the most?"
oh I color code most of my characters! once they've been around long enough they all usually get assigned one. Margim is burgundy and Celeair is silvery blue, I tend to draw them with outfits heavily featuring their respective colors.
3. "weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon?"
Margim's weapon is a spiked mace, suited to brutal attacks that kill quickly and messily. She didn't exactly choose it, but it was the only thing available to her in Thorzhaf so she just had to get good at killing with it. Really good at killing with it. Celeair has no weapon, as he's a pacifist with no combat skills. As a loremaster he occasionally requires a staff, but only rarely as he doesn't need it for healing (which is most of what he does), so he doesn't usually carry one with him unless to use as a walking stick.
4. "how crafty/resourceful are they?"
as far as fighting is concerned, Margim is used to doing battle in a controlled environment, the same bridge in the same setting day in and day out, so fighting elsewhere might have taken her a little getting used to. As such she's still getting the hang of using her environment to her advantage, as she tends to fall into the habit of seeing her foe through a kind of tunnel vision and not focusing on much else. She has a very blunt and uncomplicated approach to problem solving, usually being "hit it with a mace til it stops being a problem, and if that doesn't work, ask Celeair what to do."
Now I would say Celeair is very resourceful! Between the two of them, he's usually the one with ideas (though he always values Margim's input whenever she gives it). Very 'think on his feet' kinda guy rather than 'plan every part in advance' so he's pretty adaptable even when things go awry.
8. "do they have a nickname? who gave it to them? if it's not derived from their real name, what's the story behind it?"
well I know Margim is sometimes shortened to Mar by Elain, but there's not really much meaning behind it besides "we're friends and I shorten my friends names :>" (Margim certainly prefers it over any title she earned in Thorzhaf)
Celeair is sometimes called Cel (pronounced "Kel" bc this is still a Sindarin C) by his brother. I also feel like Elain would have a sort of nickname for him that isn't derived from his real name, maybe something that started out as a joke but kinda stuck, but nothing has jumped out at me yet.
23. "how would you describe their voice? can they sing?"
Celeair's voice is clear and gentle, and I think he can sing rather well! Margim's voice is quiet, low and almost rumbling at times. It can be a bit husky as well due to how little she speaks. I don't think she's ever tried to sing.
30. "do they smell like anything notable?"
hmm, I never gave much thought to how they would smell. I suppose Celeair would smell pretty strongly of medicinal herbs, but the exact composition can vary depending on what he's been working with. It'd range anywhere from the sweet and fresh (almost minty) smell of Athelas to bright fir needles and pungent poultices. The man basically smells like a walking herb store, which I guess makes sense considering he spends most of his time in such places.
As for Margim, first thing that came to mind was that she smells vaguely smokey? Can't think of a logical reason she would smell that way, at least post-Mordor, besides just *gestures vaguely* vibesℱ. Maybe smokey and spicy? (some of Celeair's herb smells rubbed off on her. from all the cuddling <3)
33. "if applicable, how would your other characters describe them? i mean specifically the people around them."
well considering Bitter Ash is written from both Celeair and Margim's PoVs, we kinda already know how they'd describe one another, so let's see what my other guys have to say about them! (they have at least met once after all)
Ethedis: likes Celeair a lot, sees him as a very capable healer with an agreeable demeanor. Instantly clocks that this dude has MAXED out his charisma stat, as it wouldn't be easy for just any Gondorian to be welcomed into Dunlanding village like this, and that he's much wiser than his easygoing exterior first lets on. Thinks he would be unstoppable if he honed his offensive Loremaster skills, but understands that hurting anyone would be against his principles. She wishes she could have gotten by on the same path, but the world demanded different things from them.
She was initially wary of Margim, as most people are upon first meeting her, but seeing the genuine trust Celeair has for Margim put her at ease somewhat. She's actually not intimidated by her at all (though she might have been if they met earlier), and is heartened to find such an unexpected and powerful ally. She's difficult for even Ethedis to read, but she got the impression that Margim holds a lot of pain in her past and that Mordor is to blame for it. She'll be the last person in Dunland they need to worry about falling under the sway of the Enemy.
Tossdir: was very wary of Margim upon first meeting and was slower to trust her than Ethedis was, mostly due to past experience with a certain Man of Mordor (*cough* Mordrambor *cough*) messing with his head that one time. I think once he's certain she's on their side and hates the forces of Mordor as much as they do, he would see her as the archetypal 'shady loner with a mysterious past' but he can tell she cares a great deal for the people of the Stag-Clan, and for this random Gondorian who's here too for some reason (he does NOT clock that they are madly in love. so oblivious it's almost embarrassing). He's curious about her past, but understands she wouldn't take kindly to him trying to pry into it, so he keeps a respectable distance. Even if they aren't friends, she's still a foe of Mordor and Isengard, and that at least, makes them allies. Still kinda wishes he knew what her whole deal was...
Speaking of Celeair, I honestly think Tossdir was too distracted by Margim to pay much mind to him in the short time they spent in Trum Dreng lmao. He's a bit odd, like Ethedis in some ways, but seemed like a nice enough guy. Tossdir couldn't say much more about him than that tho.

I'm going to university now (in Germany) and the uni i'm at offers catalan as a side course. Tomorrow i'll finally be at an event where they introduce the subject among others. I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! ^^ Finally! >< Sadly, there won't be a class for catalan literature (omg actually - if you have recommendations of important works from the recent centuries, i'd love to hear, but i'm just rambling, no pressure xD). There will be linguistics and speech praxis. I can't wait! :D
That's great!! I hope you enjoy it very much â˜ș
Some of the modern classics (from the late 19th century to the present):
L'Atlàntida (Atlantis, 1877) by Jacint Verdaguer. Epic poem that re-interprets history and legends. Jacint Verdaguer is the most representative poet of the Renaixença/Romanticism movement in Catalan literature.
Other poems by Jacint Verdaguer (1845-1902) and Joan Maragall (1860-1911) are the most important poetry of the Renaixença.
The theatre plays Terra Baixa (usually published in English with the title Martha of the Lowlands, 1896) by Àngel Guimerà. Also Mar i cel ("Sea And Sky", 1888) by him.
La febre d'or ("The gold fever", 1892) by NarcĂs Oller, the most representative of the realist movement.
The monologue La infanticida ("The Child Murderer", 1898) by VĂctor CatalĂ  (pseudonym of Caterina Albert). And her novel Solitud ("Loneliness", 1905), which is considered the most representative book of the modernist and naturalism movement in Catalan literature.
The satirical theatre plays by Santiago Rusiñol like L'auca del senyor Esteve (1917) —personally I really like his play El bon policia ("The Good Policeman", 1905).
The theatre play El cafÚ de la Marina ("The Marina Café, 1933) by Josep Maria de Segarra.
Poetry by Pere Quart (1899-1986)
La Plaça del Diamant (it has been translated to English with the titles In Diamond Square and The Time of the Doves, 1962) by MercÚ Rodoreda. Her novels Mirall trencat ("Broken Mirror", 1974), La mort i la primavera (Death in Spring, 1986) and Aloma (1938) are also iconic.
The short stories books by Pere Calders, most famously CrĂČniques de la veritat oculta ("Chronicles of the Hidden Truth", 1955).
The short stories book El cafĂš de la Granota (1985) by JesĂșs Montcada,
Poetry: Josep Carner (1884-1970), J.V. Foix (1893-1987).
The novel Bearn, o la sala de les nines ("Bearn, Or The Doll Room", 1961) by Llorenç Villalonga.
Poetry: Vicent Andrés Estellés (1924-1993), Salvador Espriu (1913-1985), Maria MercÚ Marçal (1952-1998), Miquel Martí i Pol (1929-2003).
The essays by Joan Fuster, most importantly Nosaltres, els valencians ("We, the Valencians", 1962).
Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen (Typescript of the Second Origin, 1974) and Totes les bĂšsties de cĂ rrega ("All The Load Beasts"?, 1967) by Manuel de Pedrolo, also personally by him I really liked the sci-fi short stories collection Trajecte Final ("Final Journey", 1975), and I will add my dad would be upset if I didn't mention his theatre play Homes i no ("Men and no", 1957).
Incerta glĂČria (Uncertain Glory, 1971) by Joan Sales.
Les veus del Pamano (Voices of the Pamano, 2004) and Jo confesso (I Confess, 2011) by Jaume Cabré.
I know some of them, at least Jaume CabrĂ©'s novels, Àngel GuimerĂ 's plays, Uncertain Glory, and some MercĂš Rodoreda novels have been published in German and/or English. In fact, Voices of the Pamano was a huge success in Germany.
I hope you enjoy the class very much!

sea watches/listens to mar i cel part three: Cançó d'Osman
Yay <3
No live reaction today BUT!! That’s bc I was so entranced with the performance!!
This reminded me of the Disney Princess “I Want” Songs, you know the one where the Protagonist sings about all the things they want? Yeah! Some examples:
Part of Your World
When Will My Life Begin
How Far I’ll Go
etc!
The performance was so emotional I felt a lil tug at my heart ♄ this guy.
It’s Mr Yellow Shirt and his name is Osman!
The Lyrics are him singing about how he’s fallen in love but can’t go after that bc he’s Poor 😞 so he’s stuck on the ship. So he Sings
and then he’s interrupted by the Captain, Saïd.
who’s basically like “here take this Diamond and get offa my ship lover boy this’ll get you like 10 women. idk bc I’m not a LOSER LOVER BOY okay and if I see you here again I’ll gut you like a fish.”
crew member, Malek, says “ayyy this Cap’s a jerk Karmas gonna get him n I’ll be there for itđŸ˜€â€
crew member two, Salam, says “nah you’d lose.”
“bros shut up we need to work” says crew member three, Hassùn
and then a kid, Idriss, comes in and is like “hey how come I don’t get money???? đŸ€š I literally work bro plz”
Captain says “you a kid. when your head reaches my nose you’ll get money. now shush.”
and then captains like “womp womp we’re killing those Christians vroskis idc bc GOD!!! And also bc we ain’t LOVER BOYS like SOMEONE HERE” To the rest of the crew
the rest of the crew says welp ig we killing bc we pirates and also bc GOD!!!
the end!!
