"it'd be good to meet them. i've been trying to broaden my social horizons lately, anyway, and anyone you like is someone i like."

he finishes his coffee, turning back to the playground. "and maybe i'll have to head out this way on my lunch break more often if you're likely to be here, huh? it's definitely a nice breath of fresh air out this way."

her face broke into a fond smile when he laughed, teeth worrying at her lower lip as she took in the way his posture moved with the sound. she suddenly realized how long it had been since she'd heard his voice, much less a laugh like that. she considered the heartache he'd been dealing with and couldn't help but wonder just how rare that sound was anymore. how lucky she was to be the cause of it.

Okay so markcil brain rot? I understand you wholeheartedly bro, the whole toxic power imbalance that can honestly go both ways. C3c1l due to his position and M4rk due to his super human abilities that he has over the older man. C3c1l using his authority and M4rk’s guilt over his dad to keep him under his thumb. M4rk who’s lost in his grief, looks to him for guidance and to fill a hole. C3c1l’s fear and need for control desperate to do anything it takes to keep M4rk on his side but also at an arms length as to not get attached that makes the hero slowly resent him yet craves to be closer to him that concern C3c1l. Ugh they make me iiiiillllll. Stomach and heart ache all rolled into one pair that can’t communicate to save their lives.

I love love love their complicated power dynamic. Like yes, Mark obviously has power over Cecil because of his superhuman abilities but Cecil has just as much, if not more, power over him due to his position as an authority figure to Mark and in his job. Even if he wanted to, Mark couldn’t kill Cecil without becoming world enemy no.1.

And EEEEEEE yes Mark looking up to Cecil after his dad betrays him and his mom, looking for guidance and support and another father figure but Cecil is so wishy-washy because he does want Mark but he thinks it’s wrong because of the - really sexy - age difference and the fact he’s his superior and he’s known of Mark since he was a kid and it’s just wrong … but he still loves Mark. it’s just so tasty and angsty - i love the complexity of them!

and as for my favorite characters?? oh boyyyyy😈 i have several because oscar is such a phenomenal actor, so i apologize in advance

in no particular order....

lets kick it off with Laurent Leclaire, as he is my current hyperfixation inside of a hyperfixation (oscar isaac). he's such a incredibly complicated character, depending on your perspective of the movie, he can be the, for lack of better words, "villian", or the victim. i already made a post about this, so i won't go on for too long. also he's incredibly hot and THOSE CURLS NNNGHHHHHH

next is Shiv. My baby, my pookie, my little russian cowboy(save a horse). just a warning, most of these characters are gonna be my favorites because "they're baby" so just prepare for that. anyway i find shiv impossibly endearing, he just screams comfort (man got beat up so often) and i love his red jacket. his visual aesthetic is so pleasing💕💕

Marc Spector. Okay I could go onnnnnn and onnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnn about why i love marc and the depth and complexity that the brilliant oscar isaac was able to preform while playing him, but i won't so i'll just scratch the surface. marcs whole existence just oozes of angst and i fucking love it. i also really wanna peg him

Okay first of, thank you so much for this ask it was super fun!! And challenging since I never watched Frasier but I did want to make this right, so I hope this gives both the characters and actors justice! Went through a few scenes with Frasier and Crane and this specific quote felt perfect for them. x)

"careful with tinder? noted," cecil laughed gently, doubtful he'd ever use the app, but it's good to know. "what should i be careful of exactly? scammers, freaks?" he raised his eyebrows.

meeting jo's eyes on that implicit question, he forced a miserable little smile. "right. i guess it is different, then." he looked down, heart aching in a way he'd been fighting for an awful long time. "things ending like this, makes me feel like maybe you had the right idea." he stared towards his glass, eyes focusing on nothing. "getting dumped when you thought you'd found the one, finding out it's your fault... it feels pretty bad, honestly."

jo nodded, expression almost solemn. "when you're ready to get back out there, you might want to be careful with tinder." she had a couple of stories there, but figured if he wanted to know, she'd asked. she sipped her drink glanced at his friends again. "it's good you have them." she was thinking about herself, how she'd essentially left her support system in california because she didn't want to deal with the fallout of friends having to choose between her and her ex-husband in the divorce. it didn't seem fair. he'd been there first. hopefully she'd find a few more confidants here...though that would probably require putting herself out there.

she couldn't help but smirk. "well," she stirred the ice in her glass just for something to do with her hands. "i wasn't married for love, so i think it's probably a little different." she gave him a look, the question hanging unasked between them. did you love your ex? she loved her ex as the father of her son and as a friend and confidant, but her love belonged to another. ironically, she was in the same state as that person now. funny how that worked out.

the excitement at their shared heartbreak maked cecil grin in spite of himself. "how'd that happen? sharing a cat?" he leaned over to look at the picture, smile widening at the sweet little creature. "i don't know if i could do it. maybe it'd be easier with a few years difference, i don't know." he took a deep breath. "not easy readjusting your life when you had all these... plans."

at the question, cecil checked his phone, pensive. "i'm on 70%. benefits of getting stuck on my workplace, i guess." his eyes find the fast food bag. "though i guess in a way we both are, huh?" he grabs another fry. "if you've got time to kill you can plug it in at my desk and hang out for a while. once we're free from this tiny steel prison." he looked around. "eventually..."

"they sure do." privately, he thought his dad had done more of a number, but theo couldn't help but echo cecil's chucke with one of his own. "wait, no way, me too!" he jabbed his thumb into his own chest and thought about caroline even though he was trying not to do that so much anymore. "well, a couple years ago, actually. and then i ran into her in town here and now we're sharing a cat." he shifted to sit cross-legged, elbow on a knee and cheek propped against a fist. "that's not a euphemism, by the way. it's a real cat." he showed cecil his lock screen, which was currently a photo of the orange tabby dozing on top of a penguins jersey. when he pulled the phone back, theo's forehead wrinkled. "my phone's on eight percent. how about you?"

Cecil's mother Rosa runs a little tech shop called Sommerville Radio & Video. it's sorta like a Radio Shack. business so far has been going pretty fine, and Mark loves to hang out there because they have records of The Cure as well as other popular artists (of the time)

cecil had been absolutely lost in a podcast, doing the dishes and forgetting about space and time (as one does). the buzzer felt like whiplash, as he was transported out of the world of legal conundrums and he looked around his miserable, empty kitchen. he grabbed a teatowel and dried off his hands as he walked to the door, opening and feeling his stomach drop when he looked into dahlia's face.

the seconds felt like an eternity as she stumbled through her words. "oh," he managed, standing dead still. "i didn't realise. uh - where is it?" he didn't know how to be normal about this, and it seemed he defaulted to being casual. he stepped back to let her in. all that mattered was he didn't convey any emotions, and then everything would be fine.

dahlia had so many moments on her way to cecil's place to turn her ass back around and text him. let him know she's coming, like a normal person would do. but something about that felt official. like, if there's no text message proof that she chose to go to his place, then maybe she can pretend it never happened. not logical. but a thought she was clinging onto like a lifeline as she hit the buzzer. she counted in her head the seconds before he pulled the door open, trying to look way more nonchalant than she actually felt. one. two. three. four. 'oh god- why didn't i fucking text?' five. six. seven. eight. as soon as the door opened she looked up, her heart in her stomach as she realized that now she got to see the authentic reaction to seeing her across his features. she smiled, a couple of beats passing before her voice box pulled its shit together. "hi ! hey ! i'm just here to pick- i mean, i think i left my passport." @ceasil

Also is it just me or am I the only one going soft for those wife!reader x Cecil hcs crumbs when you scroll FAR down into the tag and I love how we all collectively agree as a fandom that he's definitely southern and his accent slips up from time to time. (thanks Walton Goggins)

It’s so sad </3 i know it’s because there’s just no new official content of Cecil being made but ;(. But yeah, I love Cece so I’ll always write fics about him :) *tries not to think about my 5 unanswered Cecil requests* I haven’t forgotten about them T_T.

And YES OMG. I forgot their user but they have so many cute and sweet headcanons about Cecil - I love the thought of him being a wife guy (even though it’s so unbelievably out of character for him <3)

In my head he IS Southern. I think be originally meant to be so too. When he was in Atom Eve’s little treehouse and said that it reminded him of where he grew up i was like oh yeah…I���m running with this like a feral cat…Now I know nothing about southern USA but based off general media, I like the thought of Cecil being from there, coming from humble beginnings and somehow ending up in a top government position (and yes, thank Walton Goggins for his service - his voice does a quarter of the work in enforcing my love of Cecil🙂‍↕️)

Basically, Reader pulled a Homucifer behind the scenes, altering reality so they can stay in Mainstream!Mark's world.

Mild(?) spoilers(??) for Puella Magi Madoka Magica! and the explanation for the Homura fic under the cut!

Reader, knowing that they'll either die in their false world due to the Incubators forcing them to witching out, or go to another reality, where it's a gamble whether they'll finally be happy or not, decided to pull what Homura did in Rebellion.

Due to their century-long suffering, their soul gem, upon snapping, had become too dark for it to be considered affected by a curse. Because Reader didn't hunt witches and relied on the hope that they'll finally be able to be happy to keep their soul gem pure, the whiplash from feeling those pent up emotions, alongside the way Reader amplifies it during the confrontation with Incubator, was so powerful that when their temporary soul gem (the Incubators' seal) was broken, it released itself throughout the universe.

Whenever Reader's wish to live happily with Mark gets jeopardized, Reader was sent to another dimension where another "Mark Grayson" exists, inhabiting the body of that world's (Y/N). But, Mainstream!Mark was too valuable to lose, as this was the only reality where they've actually been through thick and thin and Mark fought for them. So why would they pass this chance?

Driven by darkness, the Reader pulled a Homucifer and engulfed the universe with their magic. They rewrote reality once, they can do it again. So, despite their wish being jeopardized, their body dying due to witching out, Reader remained in the Mainstream Universe. Well, they're not a Magi anymore so does that matter? The rules that previously bound them don't apply anymore. They only need to rewrite a thing or two to keep their existence intact. Sure, memories were rewritten again, with everyone thinking that it's a happy end by some miracle. Sure, the universe is their oyster now but as long as they can be happy with Mark, it's not like Reader would do anything to harm anyone.

But Cecil, begs to differ.

It seems like after all that reality jumping, Cecil remains a foil to your plans. The old man was too sharp and pieced everything together.

Like what happened in Rebellion, sooner or later, everyone will remember what you did. You might even end up fighting against Mark because of it. But that's too far into the future, so just enjoy your date!
