I agree with this so hard and also I have to do a tiny bit of shameless self promotion because I literally wrote something like this into a fic once

He remembers the Doctor staggering into the tardis a month or so back, bruised and covered in blood with a bullet hole in his shoulder and a broken ankle, refusing to explain why. Tegan had patched him up then, wrapping gauze and bandages around his ankle until he stood, limping but steady, and thanked her, while Turlough had sat quietly in the corner and tried not to vomit.

Afterwards Tegan had scolded him. "You could've helped me." she'd said. 

"You seemed to have it under control." Turlough replied loftily.

"Didn't you see the state of him? He could've used more than just my help."

"I'd only have been in the way." he protested — anything, anything but admitting that even after everything they'd been through, the sight of blood still made him queasy.

Tegan had heaved an exasperated sigh, rolled her eyes, and walked away. 

Good. It was better she still believed he was heartless than that she knew he was weak.

I love that line in Heroes of Sontar, "Turlough?! He'd pass out if he pricked his finger on a nail!"

I know Tegan is exaggerating, that she's trying to make Turlough sound even more cowardly than he is. But I like the idea that Tegan isn't exaggerating, that Turlough does actually have some crippling fear of injuries, or just blood in general. Like, every time the Doctor burns himself badly on the console, Turlough has to leave the room to not be sick. If Nyssa ever chewed her nails so they started bleeding, Turlough would get dizzy(this plays into another headcanon I have that Turlough has perfect nails, because anything else makes him ill.) Perhaps it could be some kind of trauma from the civil war? But I think Tegan would definitely take full advantage of it, she would find it hilarious that Turlough was so delicate that a drop of blood made him faint, and maybe sometimes she'd accidentally on purpose show him scrapes she got on adventures just to see how he reacted. (spoiler alert: he did faint)
