Mr Koh's Stretching Exercises

the first take is absolutely ridiculous, 0079 is about as accessible as you can get, it's literally the first one so it's the only Gundam show with "you need zero experience" baked in. Even newcomer friendly entries like G-Witch feature a lot of throwbacks to older material. 0079 is the only one that is fully self-contained. And aside from that it's just a very good show on its own, and as you said, the compilation movies exist if you don't want to commit to a full show.

As for the other stuff. Personally I do agree with you on Unicorn and Origin being best savored later but I do also know some people who got into Gundam that way and did fine. So personally I do think it's doable if (IMO) not ideal.

But yeah that bit about 0079 is just absurd lol. I promise anime made before the year 2000 is not actually that scary. Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 is newer than Star Wars. If you can do Star Wars I promise you can do 0079.

it went off the rails in really disappointing and frustrating ways that made it not really satisfying as a drama. I'm inclined to say it came down to the production issues that were always quietly boiling under the surface coming to a head over the hiatus

the first cour is excellent, the second is quite bad, and I wouldn't really say it's worth watching

the original UC series (particularly 0079-CCA) and Iron-Blooded Orphans would better serve people who are gay and like violence

I finished chars counterattack and while it was good and the animation was fantastic I have some problems with it.

The main thing is a lot of plot points and important characters were not present and built up on in the movie. The two I’m most disappointed are is the lack of char’s sister Sayla especially since she shows up at the end of Gundam ZZ mentions char and yet she doesn’t show up in the whole movie. Neither Does the other members of the white base who aren’t Amuro, bright or mirai. Another thing is the plot point of minerva at the end of ZZ Gundam as at the end of the show it’s revealed the one we saw in that show is a fake and we hadn’t seen the real minerva since zeta Gundam. I assumed the real minerva was with char but what happened to Minerva between ZG and CCA it doesn’t say or show.

I can understand not going into too much detail about what happened between ZZ and CCA as it’s a 2 hour movie but the movie spends a lot of time focusing on Hathaway and the green haired girl who I forgot the name of and a love triangle which I really don’t like for characters I don’t really care that much about which it could have spend that time tying up more plot points from the previous shows and including more of the relevant characters but it just feels like it focuses on the wrong stuff.

Also the entire plot is solved by a psychic T device which Gundam is dumb but this mcguffin is especially dumb also why do the zaku pilots help trying to stop the axis crash into earth at the end when they were fighting the battle for the goal of crashing axis into the earth.

Like I still enjoyed the film but I think there was a lot of missed opportunities in the film especially cause it’s the culmination of the story set up in the first 3 shows.
