Witchcraft SMP

I love this SMP to bits for just so many reasons.

Cleo, the time witch with the second start and mysterious past they rarely make reference to. Seriously, they mentioned wanting to bring someone back once and that’s it. Also, their hexcraft is just such a perfect fit for someone so detail-oriented.

Prismarina, the water witch with the confusing swings that we’re finally getting an inkling of info about.

Tiff, the nature witch who has me hooked on learning Botannia. Also, I could listen to her voice all day. She could read me the phone book, but the Botannia spellbooks work nicely as well.

Scott, the incredibly messed up necromancer trying to bring back his beloved Milo.

Lauren, the sardonic sand witch, who can’t seem to get out of her own way.

Shelby, the storm witch who seems at times to be winning by accident.

Eloise, the illusion witch who is at least as mysterious as the time witch, though that’s probably because she does streams rather than videos so I’m just getting other people’s POV on her.

Joey, the firefrost witch who is just unhinged. Sure, let’s summon a demon without knowing what we’re doing. What could go wrong?

Bertha, the NPC(?) who seems to be scamming them all while being in charge of everything.

But do you know what I love most about this SMP? The thing I don’t often see mentioned anywhere?

Witchcraft SMP was launched right after that wizard game with all the antisemitism put out by the transphobic author who shall not be named. And this SMP is full of queer folks. As far as those I know: Scott and Joey are gay, Shelby is ace, Cleo and Eloise are bi. (I’m not sure if Cleo explicitly identifies as trans, but does use she/they pronouns, so I’m guessing somewhere in the nb spectrum?) Prismarina’s character was courting Eloise at one point, but I don’t know whether cc!Pris has said anything about her own orientation. I don’t know Lauren or Tiff much at all, but presumably they’re at least allies, especially since they basically came out of Minecraft retirement for this SMP.

None that I’m aware of have come right out and said it, but from my POV, it looks like 8 queer and allied MCYTers decided to collectively flip the bird to that other game, and I think that’s just beautiful.

Title: April

Setting: Season 4, during “Turning Dr. Turner.”

I do not own anything

Casey sighed as Dr. Mae Turner opened the door to her home on this new island. It was really refreshing to see something that wasn’t Camp Cretaceous or the genetics lab…but Casey still had his suspicions over the hollow forest and how Mae’s bosses managed to get T. Rexes from Isla Sorna seeing how that island is pretty much myth or is it?

Sammy sat down on the couch. “Wow. As far as caves go, this one’s pretty swank.”

“You live here?” Darius asked.

“Live, work, play surprisingly competitive games of poker with my daughter.” Mae answered. “Usually win.”

“Daughter?” Brooklynn asked.

“Oh, yes. More like adopted in the case. April. Come out please.”

“Coming, Mum.” A voice said.

Then stepped out a really beautiful girl that Casey was hypnotized to. She had green eyes, red hair tied into a ponytail, fair skin compared to Mae’s Black skin, and wore a grey shirt that Sammy couldn’t help but see that the logo on the shirt was familiar, she wore a long-sleeved sky blue shirt over the grey shirt, tan shorts, and brown boots. The girl stepped out and asked, “Are these guests, Mum?”

“Yes, they are.” Mae answered. “All right, I’m gonna go whip up some sandwiches.”

She left and April looked at Casey. He was pretty much blushing really hard and April smiled warmly at the boy. She walked over to him and Casey’s mine was on the fritz. OH, GOD! SHE’S COMING RIGHT TO ME!! WHAT DO I DO?!?!?! BE COOL, BE COOL, BE COOL!!!! JUST USE KENJI AND BROOKLYNN’S ADVICE WHEN PRETTY GIRLS TALK TO YOU!

“Ello! I’m April Turner.” April said.

“H-H-Hi. I’m Casey…Casey Johnson.” Casey said while nervously shaking her hand.

“That’s a good name.”

SHE LIKE MY NAME!!!! Casey kept his blush and played with a loose strand of his unkept hair. “S-So…You…Uh…”

“What’s wrong?” April tilted her head in confusion.

Yaz put a hand on Casey’s shoulder and replied, “Sorry. He’s a bit nervous around pretty girls. Also, we haven’t talked to another human being in the last six months expect for a doctor and his gang of mercenaries.”

“Don’t forget Mitch and Tiff…” Casey whispered.

“Don’t worry. I don’t bite. Unless if you have to brand your claws to get some triceratops meat around here.” April giggled.

“W-Wait. Claws?” Casey asks.

“Oh, I’m a human-dinosaur hybrid. Had them when I was a baby.”

“What kind of genes?”

“Raptors.”

“Oh, me too! Actually I’m the first human-Dino hybrid in existence, and my mother, Caroline Johnson, was the one who made the formula to make us who we are.”

“How old are you?”

“Sixteen.”

“Same here. Say, you want a cup of tea while we talk?”

“Sure even though I’m a coffee guy.”

April walked over to make the tea and Yaz looked at Casey. “What was that?”

“What was what?” Casey asked.

“You have feelings for her.”

“What?”

Yaz raised an eyebrow smugly. Casey sighed as there was no fooling this girl and he blushed again. “I…I’m starting to. I mean, she’s beautiful, she’s sixteen, and she’s a hybrid just like me.”

April showed up with two cups of tea and the two sat down. Casey sipped from the cup and it was probably better than coffee. Even better than the coffee he made during the six months trapped on Nublar. Casey sat his cup down and asked, “So, how did you get on this island?”

“Well, Mum has worked at a lab back in London and I attended a private school so I could at least be entertained for a few hours while she was away. I did show some of my hybrid skills once in a while to my classmates. Then, Mum got a job and we dropped me out of school and we moved here.”

“Well, I was born somewhere in Costa Rica. Well, I spent mostly all of my life on Isla Nublar where I was “tortured” into being a dangerous hybrid. It was until my friends saved me and got me into Camp Cretaceous.”

“Camp Cretaceous?”

“It was a summer camp thing that my friends and the staff were testing out six months ago.”

“What made you stuck on that island?”

“Well, it was this hybrid dinosaur called the “Indominus Rex” that got us lost on the island and also these two poachers named Mitch and Tiff. Tiff really wanted my head on Mitch’s wall and she met an…ahem…gruesome death by some Baryonyxes.”

“Must’ve been hell trying to survive.”

“Yeah, it was.”

“At least, you have friends. I didn’t have any except for Mum. She’s pretty much my only family.”

The two smiled and then Mae showed up with plates of sandwiches.

Day 42

So, there’s been a new development.  Last night I was complaining to my wife about my lack of forward momentum on the business side.  She pointed out that I am recreating myself at 40.  How many people actually do that?  Most people settle for buying something expensive and keep doing doing whatever it was that made them miserable.  She pointed out that marketing, advertisement design, and professional photography, are all new fields for me.  I should be making a ton of mistakes.  

When I started teaching, I arrogantly assumed that I knew what I was doing until I met with gross public humiliation.  Once I hit that point, I was willing to listen and started growing.

Apparently, I haven’t changed much.  In entrepreneurship, it’s not my supervisor who tells me I’m doing something wrong—it’s the market.  I’m bringing a product to the table, but I’m unable to get a response.  People like it, but they won’t pay for it.  I’m doing something wrong.  Looks like I need to broaden my reading again.  

Today I started reading the 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing.  I’m powering through it.  Interesting perception shift.  Going to get back to it now.  

Oh, Simon and I had a tiff this morning, but he’s doing better now.  Not great, but better.  He seems to need to have a major argument about something insignificant to get out his angst.  I stick to my guns and insist on the principle (most of the time) and then he’s fine again.  It’s wearying, but I think he’s getting better.  It’s gone from daily, to two or three times a week.  Sometimes I wonder if it would kill him to just say, “Okay, Dad,” but I’ll take it one step at a time.

7. How do you create/style your sims in CAS?

Hmmm honestly I just like fucking around with my CC. There's a lot of sims that I made and ended up falling in love with after having went into CAS just to test out my new CC. Caleb is an example for this; I didn't have anything in mind for him, but I wanted to see how my recent downloads looked. I like it when the pieces just fall into place.

14. Why did you decide to start a Simblr?

I actually had been wanting to for a while. A little over half a year ago, I was on a Sims 2 kick and I had a massive legacy in the process. The save got corrupted so it doesn't matter now, but I was constantly on tumblr scoping out new CC, and I came across a lot of different simblrs, so I was like: "I should do that." I never got to post about my Sims 2 characters and I probably won't until I can force myself to get back into it, but idm. I made Tiff and decided to kick off this blog with her. :)

16. How do you choose names for your sims?

I usually just randomize them because I'm lazy and also horrible at naming things, lol. There's some sims where I know exactly what their names should be (Isaac Markovic, Tiffany, etc.) but this is usually not the case. I typically randomize through CAS or go on random name generators I find on google haha.

27. Favorite pack from any sims game that you’ve gotten to play (if different from #3)

Sims 3 Supernatural was the greatest thing I have ever played in my whole entire life. The Nightlife DLC’s from both 2 and 3 are second. Vampires pack from Sims 4 is a very close one, but I'm so pissed that the world that came with it isn't bigger... I didn't care about it for a long time, but Get To Work for Sims 4 is growing on me. Being able to follow your sims to work was something that I had wanted from this series for a really long time. I just wish there were more careers you could follow them to.

63 Gunther Goth Highway

This is the home of the Burbs – TS1’s version of that Green Acres family. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, you can check out this short clip over on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gzTRwnFmFM

Anyway, this house is way nicer than the one on Green Acres. Plus the Burbs had a rugrat – John – and a dog, Tucker. But the Burb bio is basically the same: husband leaves big city to become a farmer, while his pampered wife wants to move back.

With this house, I made a lot of changes – just like I did when I played it in TS1. I changed the siding, windows and doors. Added that chimney and the trees, sidewalk, driveway and the flowering bushes. I also changed the fence to the one that came with TS3, and used a different doghouse. Plus – since Brad now works as a fertilizer analyst at the Science Lab, and is eco-obsessed - I gave him that growing thingie from the greenhouse store set and that solar panel. And a BUNCH of plants to help him achieve his LTW to grow a perfect garden. I’m a good simgoddess, I am!

Inside, I reconfigured the house a bit. I wanted to use the cottage stair set from TSR – since I love it! – so I had to change things a tad.  Also, grandellama said in his lot description that this family is new in town, living the 50s life. So, I decided to use those MidCentury Modern store sets to furnish this house.

So, this is the new ground-level floor -starting with the kitchen/dining area. Other than the bathroom – which I do plan to change out to match the one upstairs – I changed all of the wall and floor finishes.

And here’s the other half of the ground level - the living room. For those of you thinking, “But it’s not like it was in TS1!”, since I’m not a “purist,” I have no problem updating TS1 items to TS3. Mostly because, if I had had this CC back then, I would have used it. Anyway, my game, my rules. 

Upstairs I changed the wall and floor finishes in the master bedroom, the main hallway and the bathroom. (I’ll be using that bathroom wall finish downstairs too). Then I redid the furniture in all of the rooms – except for the rugrat’s. All I changed in there was the dresser. It’s now a mishmash of styles, since that’s what real people tend to have in their houses. Plus, when I place this house in my new save game, I’ll be adding more clutter. But this “lite” version makes it easier for exports.

Then I took the family into CAS and redid them. Most of the families in this world are dressed like they were in TS1. Which means  - like crap. Back when I played TS1, I didn’t have any custom Sims, so I was stuck with what the game offered. But now, I have tons of CC, so all of my sims are getting new outfits that better reflect who they are. That said, here they are!

Tiffany now works in the business field. (Here she is, coming home from work). With MC, I gave her a college degree in business, so she’s level 4. In my game, Brad and Tiff met in college, got drunk at a keg party, and 9 months later little Johnny appeared. Tiff still hasn’t forgiven Brad for getting her pregnant – like she was totally innocent! – and it is reflected in their current relationship values. She’s also pissed at being uprooted from her life in the Big City, so I foresee some major problems for this couple in the future.

And here’s Tucker. Not sure what he’s chasing, but that dog can run!

i have no words to describe my love for tiffax so the best way is to do it with an edit instead, right? tiff’s season (season 7) is my fav season of skam france so far (together with season 3). the new gen is just so amazing! a big applause to the team for tiff’s character development and the relationships/friendships that was brought to us.

The Comfort Zone Challenge by @honeycuts

This is more like the opposite of a challenge, because the point is to push yourself as little as possible. Essentially just create a sim and do what takes the least amount of effort to see what are the features you always gravitate towards! Tag some people and call it a day!

Full lips, angular jaw/cheeks, strong noses, looks like they want to fight you. That’s my Comfort Zone...?

This is Tempest Blackwood (totally not her real name, but don’t be stupid and point out that she resembles Tiffany Barnwell, recent graduate of Port Promise High School. The last person to do that ended up with an empty wallet and empty veins). Tiff--errr, Tempest is a young vampire with dreams of becoming a famous actress, if she can control her hunger before she eats her costars.

(She’s actually very very low on CC so I was going to put her up for download but it’ll have to wait ‘til S4S is back up.)

Welcome back to Week 2 of Coast to Coast Reads! Who’s still alive? Katya and I are dying while social distancing, but at least we had a few laughs discussing this book:

Crescent City (House of Blood and Earth) // Sarah J Maas

Real Summary:

Crescent City, a place where vanir (supernatural beings such as angels, fae, shifters, etc.) and humans freely mingle and go about their days. Bryce Quilan is a 20-something fae/human who’s still reeling from the murder of her friends 2 years ago. But after she’s commissioned to help search for an ancient artifact, Bryce, along with her new angel partner Hunt, unearth previously buried secrets about the murder that threaten to expose a worldwide conspiracy. 

Pros:

Great side characters. I would die for each and every one of them.

Lots of different mythological creatures! Not just another Fae Book™️

Cons:

It’s literally ToG 2-7 combined. If you read Throne of Glass, you’ve already been spoiled for this book. 💀💀💀

What can I say. SJM literally plagiarized herself by taking the plotline of the tog books and translating it to this new setting. The writing itself was subpar, and most of the time it felt like the author herself had no idea where the plot was going, instead letting it drag on until a plot twist that makes no sense is revealed. (You’ll know which one I’m talking about when you get there.) I’ll compare CC with ToG with spoilers under the cut. 

Pacing 2/5

The beginning is full of info-dumping as SJM tries to set up this world which is metaphorically like ours, but everyone’s hot and does fantasy cocaine all the time.  It narrates boring day-to-day schedules that could have been condensed into a paragraph and at times I was tempted to skip ahead. The plot does pick up near the last 25% though, so I’ll give it that. 

Worldbuilding 2.5/5

It was confusing. To be fair, after all the info was dumped at the beginning, I didn’t bother going back to try to figure things out when they popped up again after. But like still??? I think I only started understanding the hierarchy of the government with the Asterrii(?). Also what are the Triarii I am still lost. SJM attempts to blend a more modern society with one of fantasy creatures, and for the most part it succeeds, but it often just feels...strange. I think the one thing I’m most hung up about is why swords and guns still coexist. Like ??????? it’s one or the other plssssss abandon the “aesthetic” Also while they literally have cell phones and keurig machines there aren’t common things like cars? Why.

Characters: (This is unconventional, bear with me)

Main Characters: -infinity/5 they could go die for all I care

Bryce and Hunt were both super unlikeable, 10/10 would let fall from a cliff. They are literally just rewrites of Aelin and Rowan? Bryce is like ahahaha yeah people think I’m Just a dumb vapid Female™️ who parties too much and gets trashed but SIKE I’m actually the chosen one and I’ve been hiding it this whole time because I didn’t want to hurt people’s feelings uwu. And did I mention I’m actually a trained Warrior who can keep up with The Boys? It’s Aelin y’all. There are numerous times where a character says that she’s not stupid and I’m like...are you sure... This girl makes the poorest decisions, yet ofc, there aren’t any long term consequences... (Also 99% of her problems come from ghosting people literally just respond with “k” sis)

Hunt is... idek what to say about Hunt. He’s just Rowan but in angel form. His inner monologue cycles between I must pay off my debt so I can gain Freedom 😔, why is Bryce so hot 🥴, and Shahar 😭. Once again, literally Rowan who also was bound to some evil villain, had the hots for their CENTURIES YOUNGER pupil/protectee, and had an old lover die tragically which led to them believing they can never find love again UNTIL BryLin comes along. Snooze. 

Side Characters: Infinity/5 

Ruhn Danaan was the most valid character and that’s the hill I’ll die on. He literally just wanted to protect his sister cuz she’s stupid af but she keeps pushing him away bc he’s an “alphahole” (haha how subversive :/) I want a whole book about him and Hypaxia, preferably fanfiction so I don’t have to read “soft feminine breathing” ever again.

Literally all the supporting cast- Lehaba, Therion, Ithan, Jesiba, Flynn, Connor, etc, etc. had more compelling characters and side stories than Bryce/Hunt. I was 100% more invested in them and I can’t wait to read/write more about them. 

(Pls let me marry Jesiba Roga or Therion 🥺)

But while the people on the “good” side were spectacular, the villains all felt one-dimensional and the product of over-recycled and overused tropes mashed together. Sandriel and Pollux are literally just Maeve and Cairn (is that his name)

I’d recommend for:

People who loved Throne of Glass and are lamenting the absence of new content. Please read about Rowaelin 2.0

People stuck at home during this global crisis and have too much time on their hands. (If you need that free epub, hmu)

People who are willing to skip all scenes that feature just Bryce and/or Hunt 

People who hate themselves

Okay time to VENT

OKAY so CC=ToG, let’s break down how

Danika’s death is the Nehemia Incident, setting the mc up for a journey of self discovery/reclaiming their power. They both show up as ghosts later to encourage mc in a time of great self-struggle.

Syrinx if Fleetfoot. bc all female mc’s need a pet to reveal her Feminine and Soft side

Sandriel and Pollux are Maeve and Cairn. Evil female character with vast power and her torturer? COOKIE CUTTER FORMULA. The scene where Bryce offers herself up for Hunt in the lobby also kinda mirrors that scene in..HoF? QoS? Don’t remember, but pretty sure that happened. Also that scene was so fucking dumb, I really thought Bryce had a Smart Plan, but I was bamboozled once again. 

A gem from my notes: “Bryce is Aelin but with cocaine”

I think the whole demon portal thing is a ripoff of ACOWAR (or is it KoA I can’t even remember), sacrificing yourself to close the rift, etc, etc. 

Anyways, Bryce = Aelin, a party-girl front with a sob backstory that’s her superpower origin story who always has a Plan. 

Hunt = Rowan, broody warrior busy repaying debts getting orders they don’t want while pining over a lost love. They reluctantly let the female mc in and voila they’re in LOVE

The whole “plot twist” that revealed Hunt’s true plan along was so fucking dumb...

It wasn’t a plot twist, it was just plain bad writing

There was no set up at all, nothing alluding to Hunt secretly masterminding an attempted coup with the help of Magic Meth

The whole time I was like “...this is part of their plan right. There’s no way he legit planned this...”

Character’s POVs should reveal what they’re thinking, even if you’re just hinting at something to reveal later...this was just lazy

Another thing that really rubbed me the wrong way was the sudden reveal that Fury and Juniper had been in a relationship the whole time? Despite like above, there was no prior allusion to that?

It felt like half-assed representation at best and completely irrelevant to the story with it coming up again in a throwaway line near the end

Also? I’m fairly certain there was a scene in the beginning where they were all out clubbing and Juniper hooked up with some rando while Fury was also at the club with them? Was this before they got together or did SJM insert this so last minute that no one caught it?

Wtf is sunball. Can someone just help me out here.

Some people have been saying Hunt is Asian coded? Where???!!!!! All I’m seeing is the same stuff she pulled in ACOTAR where all the Illyrians were tan so people could claim they were poc for woke points but not get in trouble for art depicting them as white ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

SJM pls stay away from “like calls to like” you don’t deserve it
