Probably for drama. She was hiding A LOT of things from them, and that makes them question whatever she does now. They're setting up the conflict for when she comes back.

But it's kind of obvious for the audience. Brooklynn has always been-- nosy, let's say, from the very start of the show. Like, literally in the second episode of Camp Cretacious she sneaks in a place where she should NOT be (Wu's offige if I recall) and that could get her into serious trouble for the sake of a story. She continues to do stuff like that ALL throughout Camp Cretacious —and as someone else very well pointed out, often not really taking her friends' feelings into consideration even if she truly doesn't mean to harm them—. This is the same person who at age 13 was like 'Who gives a damn if I'm killed for it, do NOT let Wu take the laptop' so he wouldn't create more hybrids. She's always been a very 'the end justifies the means' person, most of all if she thought it was for the greater good. She's often selfless to the point that she's selfish, if you get my point. So yeah, her sticking her nose into this business and being willing to get 'her hands dirty' as Daniel said and risking her own neck in order to take the whole thing down is very in character for her, and the most obvious thing for us-- but again, to her friends she's been acting shady, and we need conflict.

Another reason why I think they can't reach that conclusion so easily is because, even with those things she did back in CC-- back then, she actually didn't hide what she was doing from them. Brooklynn always told the group immediately when she was suspicious of something, like when she distrusted Hap or when she didn't trust Daniel. This? Brooklynn didn't tell a soul about it-- again, I think she was probably going to tell Darius that night, but she didn't get to. That's why they're not sure what the hell was going on with her, because she didn't tell them anything and just decided to do things on her own instead of relying on them. Maybe because she thought she could deal with things on her own, or might not have wanted them getting involved on something dangerous, you know the drill. And I think that's another thing that's going to cause conflict even when she explains herself and what she was doing: the show is very adamant in repeating that the whole reason the Nublar 6 survived was because they weren't alone, they all had each other and worked together as a team, as friends and a family. They're stronger when they're together. Meanwhile, Brooklynn being on her own resulted in nearly being killed. I think Brooklynn not only keeping things from the Camp Fam but deciding to do things alone instead of relying on them is going to be part of the conflict when she returns.

Idk the whole 'making business with Daniel and buying a dinosaur' thing to me wasn't like a sign that Brooklynn was shady now. I think Brooklynn was just trying to 'infiltrate' and take down the black market, or her buying the dinosaur was to gather some proof of what was going on. I think that's most likely why she wanted Darius to meet her that night: she wanted to show him what some of the DPW members were doing. Then the whole thing backfired and she's pretending to be dead now, but definitely I don't think she got into something shady just for benefit, but because she was doing it for the greater good at the end of the day. She was just way over her head and probably didn't realize until a dinosaur that was sent to kill her quite literally bit her hand off.
